PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT OF INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES
The airline industry, like many other industries, is increasingly exposed to competition. Increased
competition has two effects on firms: it creates downward pressures on output prices, and it creates
incentives for improving productivity and efficiency. Many airlines have been forced to undertake
major restructuring in order to meet these challenges. Many researchers have used different model
to decompose changes in airline profitability into two components: productivity and price recovery
ability. The study concluded that increased competition in international air transport markets has
put pressures on carriers ability to raise prices. However input prices, like labor, fuel, materials,
flight equipment, ground property and equipment have been increasing. They also demonstrated
that airlines have made tremendous effort to improve efficiency to counteract such trends, yet large
fluctuations in profitability are still an ongoing reality. Due to these fluctuations in airline fortunes,

Streaks of shimmering sunlight filtered through a golden canopy of trees, casting elegant shadows
to dance across the mossy verdure. The lush grass was invested with thriving insects that swarmed
on the ground like an overcrowded marketplace. The crickets made a harmonious song that echoed
throughout the forest, almost in sync with the repetitive calls of exotic animals that were crawling
through shrubbery and soaring high in the leafy giants. Leathery leaves brushed against each other
in the feeble breeze, almost as if they were whispering in hushed tones whilst squirrels ran and
frolicked in the bushes.
A balmy smell lingered in the humid air, mixing with the scent of damp earth. Flowers were dotted

During the late 19th century and early 20th century the United States saw many political reforms
that would bring the nation back into a positive and moral state after a bloody civil war tore the
country apart. It is said that the average American over the age of 15 during the time prior
Prohibition drank almost seven gallons of pure alcohol a year. Prohibition was a period of time in
which the average citizen broke the law because alcohol was a major part of citizens lives and the
restrictions on the sale, transportation, and manufacturing of alcoholic beverages illegal. The
urbanized North and Midwest were against Prohibition and the rural West and South supported the
ban of alcohol. Even though that the issue of Prohibition was a... Show more content on

The liquor debate often turned urban anti prohibition Americans against countryside pro
prohibition dwellers. The Anti Saloon League first focused on the local option which gave
voters the power to ban the selling of alcoholic beverages. That approach seemed too slow for
league supporters and they then turned toward the states. In 1907 Oklahoma became the first to
adopt Prohibition. Eight other states banned alcohol selling by 1914. Drys or prohibitionists in
Congress in 1913 passed the Webb Kenyon Act. This act made shipping alcohol into dry states
illegal. The bill was vetoed by President Taft but became law anyways because Congress
overrode his veto. The League s next step was to ban alcoholic sales in the United States by
having Congress adopt an amendment to the Constitution. World War I played a role in the ban
of alcohol because food supplies were needed for soldiers and people were asked to have
wheatless and meatless days by President Hoover. This boosted the Prohibition campaign because
grain is a component in alcoholic beverages and people were asked to give it to soldiers instead of
using it for alcoholic beverages. Prohibitionists also preached that drinking impaired the armed
forces fighting ability. The Eighteenth Amendment was passed in December of 1917 by Congress
and restricted the sale, production, and transportation of all alcoholic beverages. The Anti Saloon
League helped to ensure

The definition of burglary in South Carolina is straight forward, consistent with most state statutes.

Burglary occurs when anyone enters a structure with criminal intent and without the owner s
consent. It bears mentioning that the above represent two elements , and both of these elements are
necessary for one to be charged with burglary. As with any other charge in the American criminal
justice system, in lieu of the defendant s admission of guilt, the prosecutor must prove his or her
case beyond a reasonable doubt. The charge of burglary is divided into two distinct elements: The

13. Revised Paranormal Belief
Internal Reliability of the Revised Paranormal Beliefs Scale in a Hawai i College Sample
Paranormal, superstitious and magical beliefs have played an integral part of human history for
thousands of years (Jahoda, 1969), and figures show that these beliefs continue to thrive in
modern times (Newport Strausberg, 2001). Paranormal phenomena are defined as those that
would violate basic limiting principles , which are universal doctrines that describe how nature
works. They are not laws of nature but, like the principles of logical reasoning, are commonly
accepted either as self evident or as established by overwhelming and uniformly favorable
empirical evidence (Broad, 1953). The origins and functions of such beliefs have been long
speculated by researchers (Jahoda, 1969). Belief in the paranormal was viewed by earlier
researchers as unitary phenomena but later factor analyses have generally supported the view that
belief in paranormal phenomena is not a one dimensional construct, but instead multifaceted... Show

powerful visual aid that heightens the viewers experience and significance of narrative

This is due to the possibility of symmetry being used randomly and thoughtlessly, running a high
risk of creating visual disturbances in the narrative of the film, thus, potentially leading the initial
direction of the narrative astray and the viewers to be confused as the film advances (Thonsagaard,
L, 2012).
Wes Anderson (born 1969), best know as an Academy Award winning American film directorand
screenwriter is respected and has mastered the art of symmetry. His films are extremely
identifiable, as his constant usage of symmetry within his feature films create a powerful visual aid
which are capable of communicating complex meanings that cannot be conveyed visually without
the addition of symmetry. Anderson s work is also notable for his distinctive narrative writing and

Mega Vid strives to satisfy the demands of our customers in an effort to increase the customer

our company struggles to create a brand which will dominate in a competitive market. In addition
to numerous complaints regarding the effects of the products our company offers, we often endure

However, these initiatives can reduce the sales of the video games since some of those scenes are
the major parts of the games that players engage. There is a fundamental concept that tends to
miss out when parents are purchasing video games for their children. The majority of them do not
differentiate games meant for adult consumption and the games created for children and teenage
content. There needs to be a strong campaign to make the parents aware of proper choice of video
games that suits the age of the players. The organization can also work on coming up with games
that allow parental control by allowing parents to block some of the scenes that they consider
inappropriate for the children.
Some other companies dealing with production and selling of video games have opted to forward
customer calls to other video game specialists and developers to answer their questions in an
attempt to avoid the problem of giving conflicting statements to the customers. However, this
approach is not suitable for our business because it is our culture to ensure that customer
satisfaction is always the top most factors. Our organization aims to create a good customer

Essay: Canadian Economy Analysis and Measures will be taken 1. Introduction and Background of
Canadian economy
In the international foreign exchange market, the Canadian dollar, Australian and New Zealand are
collectively referred to as resources currency (Issa, Lafrance Murray, 2006). The reason for this is
that the currency exchange rate changes are greatly influenced by the international commodity
prices. Canada is humongous, sparsely populated and rich in oil, minerals, timber and Marine
resources. Formed by Canada s export trade, agriculture, forest and energy products. Energy and
raw material prices will make Canadian dollar. In a long run, people generally believe that Canada
economy is vulnerable to external shocks. The influence of the export trade is influenced by
international commodity price fluctuations. Canada international trade relies highly on the United

The Harm Principle
A thin line separates the government s control over the people. However, what is the perfect
balance that regulates a government s control over an individual freedom without infringing on an
individual s natural rights? If this line is crossed, the agency then becomes a limited pursuit, is not
achievable due to the restrictions based on government and society. The most appropriate theory
and practice regarding how to govern is constantly questioned. According to John Stuart Mill s
novel On Liberty, Mill argues that the government undeniability possesses the capability to destroy
the freedom of many individuals. How do we prevent the government from abusing their power
over individuals? The Harm Principle states that a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this, individuals must be mindful of their direct or indirect actions and its implication towards
others. If an individual s actions do harm another, then the government has the right to intercede.
The Harm Principle discusses harm in three ways: harm to others, harm to morals, and harm to the
autonomy of others. All these, however, may be overturned is consent is given. He states, This
idea that consent matters for thinking about harm is consistent with Mill s insistence that our
conscience is for each one of us to decide for ourselves. Consent is an individualized freedom, and
as long as the person giving the consent understands the responsibilities and repercussions of his or
her decision that freedom may not be revoked. The Harm Principle seeks to limit the harm to the
autonomy of others. An example stated in What is this Thing called Philosophy, defines when a
harm should not be prevented. Boxing is acceptable despite the physical harm it causes to each
individual. Boxers give their consent to participate, and thus the risks. Here they are only harming

I Stand Here Ironing, which is a popular short story by Tillie Olsen describing the hard lives of
people during The Great Depression in the 1930s, focuses on the numerous difficulties of a
mother who had to take care of a child by herself. The short story begins with a view of an
apartment room where a woman is ironing. Her work is interrupted by a call asking for her help
for understanding Emily, her first daughter. By recalling and gathering all memories between her
and Emily, the narrator realizes that there are a lot of things which make her feel guilty and
regretful about her daughter. In the end, turning back to the present, she believes that Emily will
be fine with her true value inside despite of the rocky childhood. In the setting, the narrator is
doing her housework, ironing, as an ordinary activity at every late night weekend after taking her
children to bed. Actually, the ironing, which is such a boring work for everyone, makes her mind
easily follow the mental process of flashback about Emily s childhood, especially after she receives
a call from Emily s counselor.
By the time of the post Great Depression, most of working class families still lived in the small,
old and hovel apartments in urban or suburban areas. Each apartment only had two or three rooms

at any age. Depression affects teenagers and even adults in many ways. Everyone experiences
unhappiness and sadness occasionally. When the depressing feelings start to take over everyday life
without a recent loss or trauma and cause physical and mental deterioration, they become what is
known as depression. About 5% of adolescents in the general population suffer from depression. It
is the world s number one psychological disorder. Some research has indicated that chemical
imbalances in the brain cause depression. Scientists think that a lack in serotonin may cause the
sleep problems, irritability, and anxiety associated with depression.
Depression is being seen in more children and teenagers. It strikes as many as 2.5 % of children
and 8.3 % of teenagers in the United States today. The recent research published in Pediatrics
examined psychosocial issues in thousands of children ranging from ages 4 to 15. Low grade

26. Antibiotic Resistance Lab Report
INTRODUCTION
An antibiotic is a medicine that inhibits the growth of or destroys microorganisms, including
bacteria (Microbiology Society, 2018). Antibiotics work by many different mechanisms, but most
commonly inhibit enzymes that are critical for cell wall biosynthesis, protein synthesis,
transcription, DNA replication, or synthesis of metabolites. They also can interfere with the
integrity and permeability of the bacterial cell membrane.
Antibiotic resistance occurs due to the strong selection pressure that antibiotics impose on a
bacterium community. Most bacteria are affected by the antibiotic and are killed, but at times, a
mutation occurs in an individual that leads to a resistant bacterium. This resistant strain can then
spread rapidly due to the lack of competing bacteria (Yurchenko, 2018). This resistance is more
likely to occur from the overuse of antibiotics; therefore, it has been a point of emphasis to use
antibiotics only when necessary and not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bioinformatics is the interdisciplinary field that develops methods and software tools for

both classified as phosphoethanolamine transferases. These genes are thought to alter the
lipopolysaccharides where the Colistin can no longer act upon them (Yurchenko, 2018). In order to
better understand how the Colistin resistance genes are spreading through bacteria, we wanted to
identify the Colistin resistance gene in bacterial species and analyze their relation on a phylogenic
tree using bioinformatics. This would allow us to answer the question whether the Colistin
resistance gene is spreading by lateral transfer or

27. Advancements in Prosthetic Limbs
CHAPTER 1 Introduction
Prosthesis is a term used for replacing a human body part which has been damaged or cut
accidently with an artificial one. Hybrid prosthetic limb is a combination of mechanical and
electrical circuit in which a controller gives command to electrically driven motor for the gripper
opening and closing. Signal for the gripper opening or closing is acquired from the other shoulder
movement. A strap on the shoulder is tied to a string which switches on or off the limit switch to
give a trigger signal. This trigger signal actuates the motor in the gripper to perform open or close
operation.
In the past few years prototype has been going under many modifications. Last year it was
completed but few flaws were there. Spring Mechanism was used by previous degree but it was
not reliable as due to excess use spring lost its elasticity and could not be used for triggering.
Spring mechanism was also not aesthetically good. A lot of aesthetics was to be done. To cater for
this problem we used limit switch for efficient triggering and made compact circuitry using 8 pin
controllers and added much to aesthetics of limb.

In Jordan, an expansion synchronization team was set up in the governmental bureau that collected
information from each of the government directorates within the kingdom s Education Ministry to
oversee the implementation of diverse programs connected to the education transformation that

Singapore, the Educational Technology Division teamed up with divisions within the government s
education ministry in such activities as curriculum preparation, development and training of
teachers in ICT and the execution of their long range and short range plans. In addition, the

37. Business Overview Of Shani A Franchise Or Open An...
Business Type
Depending on her level of comfort and desire of business freedom, Shania can pursue a franchise or
open an independent coffeehouse. One business brings market ready supplies and the other requires
greater diligence in planning and management.
Opening a franchise brings a brand name and materials to a business to produce instant recognition
and bring in brand loyal consumers. A franchise creates a business relationship with a franchisor to
bring a brand name, trade dress, and trademark to a franchisee (Kubasek et al., 2015, p. 431). In
turn for the franchise material and name, the franchisee pays a percentage of sales to the franchisor
(Kubasek et al., 2015, p. 431). As reported in 2011, franchisingwas so popular that it was the
genesis of one of every 12 retail businesses in the United States (Welsh, Desplaces, Davis, 2011,
p. 4). A weakness of owning a franchise was reported by Perrigot, Hussain, and Windsperger
(2015) where franchisees have to strictly follow operating manuals and almost all of the strategic
decisions are made at the franchisor level (p. 696). Although it does have a curtailed degree of
freedom, a franchise brings greater stability with a proven business style and support system.
On the contrary, an independent operation is different in that there are no trade materials or
products; however, there is greater freedom to operate (Perrigot, Hussain, Windsperger, 2015, pp.
700 701). Additionally, independent operators can better

38. Themes Of Feminism In Harriet The Spy
It is often questioned whether tween literature is too mature for its targeted age group. With themes
of murder, sexual abuse, neglect, and other forms of violence, both physical and psychological,
there seems to be one topic that is slightly more prevalent when speaking about tween literature.
Tween literature and culture is often marketed towards young girls and their parents, because of
this, it becomes easy to talk about themes of feminismin tween literature. More specifically, due to
the time period in which tween culture became mainstream, postfeminism is a topic that is often
heavily discussed around tween literature. Both Gail Levine s novel, Ella Enchanted, as well as
Louise Fitzhughs novel Harriet the Spy, can both be analyzed using a postfeminist lense. By using
a postfeminist lense in analyzing these books, the issues of postfeminism become apparent when
addressing issues such as a false sense of choice for young girls, an idea that they must be
ashamed for who they are and the views that they hold. It is further complicated when it becomes
apparent that due to postfeminist ideology, women, and specifically young girls have lost the
ability to articulate sexism when it affects them. Through these points of contention regarding
postfeminism, it becomes aparent that society is not quite ready to hold postfeminist views, since
there is still an imbalance of power that women face on a day to day basis. It is important to have a
baseline understanding of what

Footwear also known as shoes was invented to protect a person s foot while doing various activities,
primarily created for functional and practical use. However, shoe design has constantly evolved
throughout history and from culture to culture. The notion of complementing your outfit with the
perfect shoehas been the impetus of design and many styles of shoes; such as high heels, flats and
sneakers. Modern footwearvaries widely in design, comfortability and cost. Nike is a
multinational company that offers many types of footwear and has been a leading pioneer in the
retail market for decades. Air Jordan s and Converse are notably Nike s most proverbial brands.

The demand for different designs and styles, eventually changed the cost and the history of these
ordinary sneakers. Air Jordan s , notably the most famous sneaker ever made, is designed and
owned by Michael Jordan. Footwear sales sky rocketed in 1984, when Michael Jordan signed a
contract to wear the now famous Air Jordan. Air Jordan is manufactured in China and allegedly
costs Nike a little over $16 to make a pair. Yet, Air Jordan s are priced at anywhere between $100 to
$600 a pair, depending on the style and color.
The pricing strategy for this brand is value based. The selling price is determined not by the cost
of the goods, but by the status that buyers think they are valued. Consumers measure the quality
of Air Jordan s by the quality of Michael Jordan s skillful tactics on the basketball courts and are
willing to pay a pretty penny to be like Mike, hence their well known motto I want to be, I want
to be like Mike. Statically, the value based price strategy is effective for this brand because Air

The dueling religious ideologies seen in Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice serve as the
cornerstones not only of the character s arguments during the trial at the end of the play, but of the

prominent of the play s three Jewish characters, employs his religious identity in defining his
conception of masculinity, connecting his perception of what it means to be male with his
profession, which he is allowed to practice due to the tenants of his Jewish faith. This economically

41. Analysis Of The Maze Runner
The novel, The Maze Runner, is about a 16 year old boy, named Thomas, who wakes up in a
metal box that seems to be moving. As the darkness in the box starts fading, Thomas realizes that
he must be in an elevator. He hears harsh sounds of chains and pulleys, which terrifies him on his
way up. When Thomas reaches the top, 2 guys named, Alby and Gally pull him out of the
elevator and greet him. This is where Thomas realizes that all of his memory was gone. Alby had

This nickname Greenie was given to everyone who came up the elevator that did not remember
their names. After, welcoming Thomas, Alby handed him over to this young boy named Chuck.
Chuck was responsible to take Thomas for a walk and introduce him to the Glade. The Glade is an
open area of land, which is located in the center of the maze. This is where the Gladers are
forced to live and hang out. Outside of the Glade is the maze, which is full of huge walls and

which allow the runners to go out and find an exit. However, during the night, the doors close
and the Grievers come out, which are huge slugs, that harass and kill anyone that is trapped in
the maze. The next day, Thomas is told to go to the forest to grab some fertilizer. He sees a guy,
named Ben, aggressively staring right at him. Thomas asks Ben if he is okay, but Ben s
response was, it is all your fault, and then attacks him. Thomas quickly runs back to the Glade,
getting away from Ben. As Ben tackles Thomas, Newt strikes Ben in the head with a rod and
punishes Ben by throwing him in the maze for breaking one of the three rules. The rule that Ben
broke was harming another glader. The other two rules that the Glade follows are, doing your
part and never setting foot out in the maze. Alby decides to go and explore the maze with the
captain of the runners, Minho. It is now late at night and all the Gladers are frightened, the doors

43. Antibiotics Combat Infectious Bacteria
Introduction:
Antibiotics have the ability to kill or hinder the growth of bacteria. Antibiotics contain compounds
that are naturally produced by organisms to combat diseases caused by microbes. Discovery of
penicillin by Sir Alexander Fleming became the first stepping stone of many new antibiotics of
today s modern medicine. Antibiotics typically invade the very components that make up bacteria,
such as cell walls and metabolic pathways (Sato et al., 2014). However, frequent mutations of
bacteria cause today s strains to become more resistant. One of many ways which bacteria undergo
mutation is through horizontal transfer of genes (Lindsay J.A., 2013). The war against disease is a

Polymyxin B is known to only be effective against Gram negative bacteria, which was consistent
with the collected data. Gram positive effective antibiotics and protein synthesis inhibitors such as
azithromycin and tetracycline were expected to be ineffective to Gram negative bacteria, along
with DNA dependent RNA polymerase inhibitor such as rifampin. However, contrasting results
were depicted after 48 hours of incubation at 37вЃ°C. The bacteria appeared to be susceptible to
azithromycin when the bacteria were anticipated to be resistant. This discrepancy could be
explained through the molecular mechanism of azithromycin. Azithromycin induces adenine
methylation in the rRNA in the 50S ribosomal subunit, and past experiments have indicated that it
has a higher affinity for the erythromycin binding site for the ribosome to cause azithromycin to
be more susceptible in Gram negative bacteria (Retsema et al., 1987). In addition, a polypeptide
inhibitor such as penicillin was anticipated to be susceptible to the Gram negative bacteria, but it
was displayed to be resistant. Penicillin is known to be a ОІ lactam antibiotic consisting of ОІ
lactam ring that inhibits the cell wall synthesis of Enterobacteriaceae. A prevalent mechanism for
resistance to ОІ lactam antibiotic is hyperproduction of ОІ lactamase (Philippon et al., 2002).
Moreover, it is proposed that bacteria are resistant to penicillin due to the formation of microbial
colony biofilm (Thomson

Lucretius: I just wanted to update my findings on the philosophy of Epicureanism and also the
theory of free will.
Augustine: Free will, you say?
Lucretius: Yes free will. Do you have any idea of what free will is?
Augustine: Why yes I do, for it is a will by which we seek to live a good and upright life and to
attain unto perfect wisdom.
Lucretius: Exactly.
Augustine: Are you familiar of how one is able to attain free will Lucretius?
Lucretius: We obtain free by the collision of atoms which will then create a swerve. However it is
very important to know how the atoms move and there is a total of three movements.
Augustine: Then tell me these three different movements.
Lucretius: The three atomic motions are, downward fall of atoms, collision, and swerve.
Augustine: How are these three movements distinct from one another?
Lucretius: The downward fall of atoms just fall at a regular speed and follow within the same
direction, collision is when they become fused into the elementary building blocks which give rise
to matter and life being driven into closer union and held there by the entanglement of their
Interlocking shapes, and one of the most important motions, swerve, is the spontaneous and

Ethical decision making skills are important in our everyday lives because we are constantly

the best decision possible for any situation by gaining ethical decision skills and putting them to

and practicing ethical decision making skills because there are always decisions that must be
made. Whether the situation is between two teammates or dealing with calls in game situations,
there are always decisions being made. Being a participant in sports, an individual obtains

through the experience of being apart of a team. Within the building of close relationships in sports,
a person learns how to work effectively in group settings. Individuals gain and learn the importance

Other features of an individual having good character are honesty, integrity and ethical behavior.

As for the blue ringed octopus, this animal can somewhat compare to a sea wasp when it comes
to staying hidden. The blue ringed octopus can control its dermal cells, allowing it to camouflage
itself in the rocks and reefs throughout their respective oceans. Also, the size of the octopus helps
its case against box jellies, being that the blue ringed octopus is no bigger than a golf ball
(Barnett). But this could hurt the octopus if it is looked at from another viewpoint; the size of the
box jellyfish and its tentacles are the reason that it is above the blue ringed octopus in lethality. The
length of the box jellyfish allows it to inflict more damage, and release more venom than a blue

54. Asymmetric Warfare Is An Inherently Relational Concept
The asymmetry in asymmetric warfare is an inherently relational concept. It refers to a relative
dissimilarity between opponents in battle, derived from a difference in relational strength amid
warring sides. This asymmetry has tended to be in terms of status and organization; means and
resources, goals and objectives; and strategies and tactics. The relationship between the belligerents
in today s conflicts varies in many tactical, strategic and operational levels, which has come to be
perceived as changing warfare. This popular perception is that with the rise of asymmetric warfare,
conventional warfare had transformed from a customary and symmetric exercise into an irregular,
avant garde, asymmetric experience. In contrast to this perspective, the main argument here is that
asymmetric warfare is not a new genus of warthat has risen in the twentieth century as a distinct
revolution in military affairs, but rather, asymmetric warfare is a perennial characteristic of warfare,
or set of distinct conflict dynamics in warfare that occasionally surface out of asymmetric strength
between opponents in war.
At the foundation of this essay is a question calling for the analysis of the rise of asymmetric
warfare . However, after analyzing the history of asymmetric warfare and the changes and
behaviors that have taken place through this time as this essay will do my perspective is critical of
the assumption in the question that asymmetric warfare has risen . Warfare, in
