The Effect of Blood saving Apparatus on Hemoglobin, Hematocrit and Transfusion
A prospective randomized controlled trial that had 127 participants compared venous, arterial blood
management (VAMP) system in relation to transfusion requirement, preserved hemoglobin and
hematocrit. The study found that the VAMP was effective on conserving hemoglobin(hgb) and
hematocrit (hct) (H H); however, the study failed to show, the use of VAMP decreased the
number of RBC transfused (Rezende et al., 2010). Final results on hct were 26.5g/dl in the control
group vs 29.4g/dl in the intervention group with a P value of 0.006; the final result of hgb in both
groups were 9.1g/dl in the control group vs 9.7g/dl in the intervention group (P= ... Show more

Their findings were as follows: in the first 24hours, both groups had a decrease in hemoglobin
level, however on day number six (144 hours later), the VAMP group had slightly better mean
hemoglobin (Peruzzi et al., 1993). The statistical significance of (P 0.001) a 65% reduction in blood
loss (Riessen et al., 2015). In addition, the units of red blood cells transfused per 100 patients
days were 7.0 units in the control group and 2.3 units in the intervention group; (P 0.01); in
addition there was positive correlation between lower hemoglobin levels on admission and
longer ICU stay (r = 16, P 0.01); however, there is almost no correlation, at best very weak
correlation between APACHE II score in relation to lower hemoglobin level and the length of ICU
stay (r = 0.17, P 0.01) (Thomas, Jensen, Nahirniak, Gibney, 2009). While the degree of anemiawas
not related to the cohort s gender, age, diagnosis, comorbidities and blood draws, there is a strong
correlation between the length of ICU stay and number of transfusion (r =0.78, P .01); and weaker
correlation between patients sickness on admission in relation to transfusion requirement (r =0.24,
P .05); however, there is a strong correlation between blood loss due to blood draws and the rate of
transfusion requirement (r =0.80, P .01) (Thomas et al., 2009). The finding in this study supports
the use of blood saving apparatus, smaller sample tubes, transfusion

Love Is Love By Cartoon Arts International Essay
Love is Love? In a close five to four Supreme Court ruling vote on June 26th, 2015, same sex
couples gained the right to marry in all fifty states (Kenneth, Gay Rights ). As this news spread,
some were displeased, some were overjoyed, and some were somewhere in the middle. The wide
range of views on this topic made it easy to be turned into a satire. A comic by Cartoon Arts
International shows a man complaining to his wife that same sex marriageis hurting heterosexual
marriage, in which the wife retaliates and makes a comment about divorcing him because of his
stated opinion (Kurtzman). It is ironic that the woman talks about destroying their heterosexual
marriage because she didn t like what her husband said, and the husband claims that heterosexual
marriages are being hurt because of homosexual marriage. The reasoning behind the comic is to
persuade the reader to agree with the point of view it representsp, or to believe that homosexual
marriage has no effect on heterosexual marriages, and to do so in a comedic way to lighten the
tension of the multitude of views on the topic of gay marriage. Although this satire and many
others are mainly made to persuade an audience to one binary viewpoint of an issue, there are
many other viewpoints outside of the two binaries. Before the legalization of marriage equality
was established, the Defense of Marriage Act (DoMA), had been reigning since 1996, when
President Bill Clinton signed it into a law after it was passed through

The topic, Greek Philosophers, could be a very broad topic to write a research paper on.
However, the plan of action, which will occur to create this report, will ensure that the end product

reliability and information. Another source that will be used for the research paper is focused in on
a certain philosopher. That lover of learning is Aristotle. Aristotle focused more on human belief,

goes into depth on Aristotle s views and beliefs in one s conscious. According to the book,
Aristotle believed that Consciousness played a big part in the minds of people in the early ages.
The source is very credible because it comes from a critically acclaimed book called Mind . The

something that very much is in effect today. All people have a conscious and it would be very
fascinating to write about Aristotle s theory on the topic. Overall, this source can add a lot of

Essay on The Cultural Invasion of Kenya
The Cultural Invasion of Kenya
A screeching yell ripped through the house that Wednesday evening, Ahhhhh, we re being
invaded! . My mother rushed into the living room. I pointed to the flickering television screen.
Look, I whispered in disbelief. A few seconds of silence followed. There they were, the words I
never thought would appear on our 29 inch Sony screen: Sizzlin Hot Country . The appearance of
American country music on the Kenyan airwaves was the latest sign that American culture had
penetrated the borders of my country. The airing of Garth Brooks and Dolly Parton on the local
television station is not the only evidence of the rapid spread of American culture in Kenya. One

Pete was an example of a victim of the culture invasion. He would often be seen with his pants held
precariously at his hips only by a belt. Sagging soon caught on with many students and yet again,
I admit, with me. Sagging probably had its origins in the popular American hip hop that appears
on many local channels. While walking around in school, I would find students mimicking the
popular 2 Pac and Dr. Dre , with a Wesssaaid sounding in the air occasionally. A friend was also
nicknamed Krayzie Bone, after a member of the Bone Thugs N Harmony group. Baggy jeans
that could have fit two people at a time were also the order of the day at many parties and get
togethers. Donning DKNY, Karlkani, CK and Adidas attire made one hip. Jeans had become such
a popular article that during our school s annual Cultural Day, the only day when one could or
would show off one s cultural attire, they were banned.
School dances and parties rarely featured traditional songs. Instead, American icons like Aaliyah, Dr
Dre and Britney Spears dominated the playlists. Roaming the grounds of my secondary school, I
would find a girl singing out What a girl wants, what a girl... in a desperate attempt to mimic pop
idol Christina Aguilera. For some reason, emulating American youthwas trendy. Rakim, another
one of my friends, was popular for putting on an American accent when talking with girls. This act

Confused Congregation By William Shakespeare
Confused Congregation During Shakespeare s time, the Protestant religion was required to be
followed by law. This protestant religion provided the view to its followers that their lives were
controlled by a predestined fate. The people were totally helpless in their movements in their lives
who already had a path laid out in front of them and they could do nothing to divert the path. This
truth of the protestant movement was in a constant rivalry with the opposing view of Catholicism.
The catholic view and belief is that the path of life is freely chosen not dependent or controlled by
some force or fate. This struggle and this confusion with which religion, with its two opposing
factors of fate versus free will along with their contrasting ornate and historic ceremony and
traditions, is seen and demonstrated in all its glory by the characters and plot in many of
Shakespeare s plays. This confusion, due to the flip flopping of religions and the nostalgia
involved as one religion is replaced with another in a seemingly unending cycle during
Shakespeare s time, creates the hodgepodge religious backdrop for his plays. The struggle of
religion was real during Shakespeare s time. The constant back and forth of the protestant and
catholic views stemmed straight from the top. The monarch of England was calling the shots of
which religion was best for England based on the monarch s own advantages or disadvantages of
each religion. Queen Mary I (1553) believed in Catholicism and

The Fate Of The White Elephant
The Fate of The White Elephant (Draft)
The short story Hills Like White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway is an argument between the man
and a woman about abortion. It shows how an unexpected white elephant can affect their
relationship, force them to bring life changing decisions, and present a threat to their self identity.
Besides the main argument, the author through the scenery and the dialog are presenting other
conflicts and arguments. Some of them are the nonverbal communication, what choices they have,
and the couple s future. The author of the story, Ernest Hemingway, was born in 1861 in the
Chicago suburbs. In his life, he traveled to different places in the world, and he was married four
times. During the Spanish Civil War,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although it seems simple, the story carries a couple of parallel explanations about the situation.
Hemingway has never mentioned the word in his story, but the main topic of conversation
between the couple is abortion. First of all, the story shows the balance of power of the man and
the woman in the relationship. After finding that Jig is pregnant, the man is trying to talk her
into having an awfully simple operation . (Hemingway) When it comes to power in the
relationship, at first the man is trying to be dominant. He does not show any interest in the
woman s health, and he is insensitive to Jig s needs. Hemingway in the story represents the
American as a man who wants his woman to serve solely as the source of his sexual pleasure,
who denies her the motherhood that she desires. (Holder). However, soon after, he receives a
rejection from Jig. I know we will. You don t have to be afraid. I ve known lots of people that
have done it. So have I. And afterwards they were all so happy. (Hemingway) . The woman is
trying to tell the man that she does not want to end up regretting this decision that can ruin her life.
She is trying to stop the man of talking nonsense and that she knows about the effects of such
procedure. In the next dialog Hemingway is defining the pregnancy by using the hills and the white
elephants to describe the relationship:
The girl was looking off at the line of hills.

Social Culture Of The Pawnee Tribe
The Pawnee tribe is a Native American tribe that was originated from Nebraska and had very
unique cultural elements. The cultural elements I chose to go more indepth are Social
Organizations, Customs and Traditions, Language, and Religion of the Pawnee tribe. For the
Social Organizations I will discuss the social classes, and the political organization of the tribe. For
Customs and Traditions I will examine the rules of behavior, as well as the food they consumed.
For LanguageI will discuss the written and the unwritten language as well as the common
language with the other bands. Lastly I will talk about the Religion and go into more details on
their rituals, and their beliefs. I believe that the longevity of the tribe was directly related to the
way they lived. The social organization of the Pawneetribe consisted of the social class, and the
political organization. The Pawnee tribe was divided into four main bands the Chaui or the
Great Band , the Kitkahahki or the Republican , the Pirahauerat or the Tappage and the Skiri or
the Wolf Pawnee . These four bands made up the political organization. The Chaui are generally
recognized as being the leading band although each band was autonomous, that is until outside
pressures from the Europeans and neighboring tribes saw the Pawnee drawing closer together.
(Legends of America) The Pawnee s social classes were set up in a series of hierarchical divisions.

Importance Of Good Manners Essay
Manners, we hear about then every day, at home, at work, from our parents, and peers but do we
really recognize the importance of good manners? Manners are respectful actions that make an
ordinary man a gentleman. Good manners and courtesies are one of the most valuable facets of
society. They make a man a useful member of the world, making one functional in both their
professional life and personal life by helping us to win the favor and confidence of others. In
order to have progress in life, good manners are essential. On the other hand, an ill mannered man
is generally shunned by everyone and has no chance of success in any walk of life he pursues. In
today s society, proper etiquetteand good manners are almost nonexistent in some parts of the
country and we have to ask ourselves why this is. Why do people lack the basic etiquette that is
essential to living a professional and respectful life? The answer is that people are uneducated on
these topics. The fact is most parents don t do a good enough job building good etiquette habits in
their children and there is absolutely no requirement for the skills in the school systems. They may
be enforced but they are in no form taught in a formal classroom setting. In order to improve our
society and educate people of these essential etiquettes we must implement proper etiquette and life
skills classes in the youth school systems.
Family household dynamics are drastically different in today s society. According to the California

Theme Of No Man Is An Island
No Man is an Island We are all a part of the main
No person is truly isolated from the rest of the world. Nonetheless, people feel lonely or
purposeless in life. In No Man Is an Island by John Donne, he claims that no person is an island of
their own. Donne talks about humanity, unity, and mortality, which originate from his illness, and
the recent death of his wife for whom the bell tolls. (12) Through the use of an extended earth
metaphor, symbols, and shift in tone, Donne conveys the importance of humankind and life.
(Mention something about his deceased wife, and him being terminally ill)
Donne starts off this poem with an extended earth metaphor. No man is an island, entire of itself;
(1). This line is used to open the poem with a strong statement. This line helps begin the extended
by stating that no individual is completely isolated. Donne continues this into next lines, every man

This weighed on his mind and was the cause of inspiration for this poem. Donne believed that
everyone matters; whether you were rich or poor. No matter what class you were sectioned into,
you had an effect on the rest of the people around you. In this poem, Donne is able to convey his
belief that everyone matters, no matter how insignificant they seem, with the help of an extended
earth metaphor, symbols, and shift in tone. He uses an extended metaphor where he compares the
different groups of people to earthy symbols, and as he continues through the sections, he writes
more individually. This shift in tone helps the audience feel more connected to the words because
Donne is speaking in first person, making it more personal. This personal message is absorbed by
the reader through the help of symbols, which make it easier for the reader to connect and relate to
the mean of the poem. Everyone has a purpose and makes an

As a first step, the professors organize students into groups of four to five people, balancing the
groups based on both academic major and performance in the class to date (including
performance on homework and the first exam), as well as to achieve diversity. The group format
is used to encourage students to learn from each other, to motivate students to consider alternative
viewpoints, to develop students understanding of group dynamics, and to limit the amount of time
required of the project for both students and the faculty who must grade it. Each professor uses a
different approach in selecting the industry and companies for analysis. One professor takes
industry suggestions from the class (with the restriction that there be sufficient companies so that
no more than two groups will have to analyze the same pair of companies), writes the suggestions
on the board, and asks students to vote for their top two choices. Then, a second vote is taken
from among the top two original suggestions, with a majority vote determining the industry to be
analyzed. Finally, groups have one week to send the professor an email proposing two companies
to analyze, with first responders being given preference, so that no more than two groups analyze
the same pair. 85 Misch and Galantine 86 The other professor announces group assignments near

The Case For The Vaccine For Brucella Abortus Strain Rb...
Immunology is a very important area of both veterinary and human medicine, the basic principles
of the studies of this science is the same for both areas of the medicine. Such is the case for the
vaccine for Brucella abortus strain RB 51, causing agent of Brucellosis, created by
Dr. Schurig with help from the Colorado Serum Company. But understanding how the immune
system works in multicellular organisms, especially those in the higher kingdoms has brought and
opened an entire world, which has developed a subtopic, a very important art of science.
Vaccines are the result of the understanding of the functional and always active immune system in
higher organisms, such as humans and animals.
The origin of the term vaccine came along in the 18th century by Edward Jenner who described
the Variolae vaccinae a disease commonly known as Cow Pox (Riedel, 2005).
Etymologically, the word vaccine comes from the Latin word vacca that means cow, this explains
how Jenner coined the term vaccine , a word that has stuck in the science area and is very much
used by anyone, still in the 21st century.
This medical progress was first step to develop the real idea of the vaccination, the original concept
of vaccination aims to mimic the development of naturally acquired immunity by inoculation of
nonpathogenic but still immunogenic components of the pathogen in question
(Meeusen et al 2007). Once understood the normal function of the immune system and the actual
mechanisms this system go

most likely towards the beginning. By a character killing someone, whether a loved one or a friend,
it allows the person who is hurt by the situation the time to plan a revenge to get back at the
murderer. For instance, at the beginning of the Spanish... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover; there are often ghosts or in the case of The Spanish Tragedy, revenge is personified that
allow revenge to constantly be brought up. The ghosts or supernatural are what egg the

plays the chorus but never has any direct contact with people. Then, if we look at The Revenger

The Battle Of Command During Battle
A major hurdle was thus the war was being fought in foreign terrains and as such, the soldiers had
to adapt and learn quickly how to navigate and combat in new grounds. Proper training is also
essential for defining roles and functions for each member of the troops to ensure efficiency and
effectiveness of the entire units. Confusion of formations and chain of command during battle can
be devastating to any unit. Uniformity is crucial in minimizing losses and the number of casualties
in battlefields. Similarly, it is neccesary to avoid conflict of interest among soldiers of the same
troopand with allies. This war being a collaborative battle among allies thus required the highest
level of collaboration and cooperation. Proper training was thus important to ensure that all troops
worked and operated as cohesive units.
Motivation is crucial in the success of any operation whether economical or military. Workers and
in this case soldiers are thus required to be fully committed to the cause and motivated to work for
certain incentives for their service. Remunerations aren t enough to fully motivate a soldier into
engaging in life threatening battles. The political class was thus similarly influential ion offering
the servicemen proper incentives to ensure that they were motivated to perform the duties assigned
to them despite the obvious risks and hardships that they would incur. American soldiers were
largely motivated to participate in the war because of the promises that

grendelbeo Epic of Beowulf Essay
The Evil of Grendel in Beowulf
The story of Beowulf, written during Anglo Saxon times, is a classic epic tale between good
versus evil. It is a story that gives us insight into the values of the Anglo Saxon people. The Anglo
Saxons glorified heroism and the conquering of evil. In the Anglo Saxon epic Beowulf, the character
of Grendel symbolically represents evil through his setting and heritage, his hateful attitude toward
men, and his vicious acts of murder.
Grendel s heritage and setting are two things that attribute to Grendel s evilness. In the story the
author tells us that Grendel was a descendant of Cain(the son of Adam and Eve, who was cursed
by God for killing his brother Abel). The poet writes, Conceived ... Show more content on

He is pure evil spawned from Hell.
In Beowulf, Grendel represents evil through his hateful attitude towards men. Grendel is
tormented by the loud cheerful music that the Danes sing. The poet writes, A powerful monster,
living down in the darkness, growled in pain, impatient as day after day the music rang loud in
that hall, the harps rejoicing (lines 23 26). The poet suggests that the monster loathes the Danes
for their loudness. Another reason for the monster s hatred toward men could be because he is
jealous of the humans. Grendel knows that he can not be accepted in their group and be one of
them. The monster uses this as an excuse to kill them, and he keeps the grudge against them no
matter how many of the men he kills. The poet writes, How the monster relished his savage war
on the Danes, keeping the bloody feud alive, seeking no peace, offering no truce, accepting no
settlement, no price in gold or land, and paying the living for one crime with another (lines 89
94). The author shows us that Grendel will not forgive the Danes, even though the Danes didn t
even know they were committing a crime against Grendel. Grendel s evilness is fueled by his
hatred of men. The author writes, Seeing how Grendel hunted when they slept. Distance was
safety; the only survivors were those fled him. Hate had triumphed (lines 78 80). He shows us how
Grendel s hatred fueled his passionate lust for evil.

The Autonomic Nervous System
Sleep is necessary for basic health and survival. It plays a large role in an individual s mental,
emotional, and physiological welfare and functioning. After years of sleep research focusing on
sleep wake cycles, evidence points to the conclusion that sleep deprivation has detrimental
consequences, not only on rodents, but humans as well (Cheng et al., 2015). In the past century, the
average amount of time that adults sleep has decreased significantly. Consequently, sleep problems
have become an epidemic, taking their toll on the health of adult populations in numerous ways.

lifestyles, sleep habits, and sleep problems were surveyed. The results... Show more content on

Monitoring HRV can provide information about the function of the autonomic nervous system.
HRV is a non invasive index of the neural control of the heart (Acharya, Sing, Ping Chua, 2004).
Although it is difficult to establish a particular standard normal heart rate for a given individual,
most individuals have a typical range from 60 to 100 beats per minute (Fox et al., 2007).
However, the interval between each heartbeat constantly varies. High frequency variability in
RR reflects parasympathetic activation, while a slower variability in RR reflects a combination
of both parasympathetic and sympathetic modulation along with non autonomic factors. When
interpreting HRV data, there are several components in the power spectrum that can have
fluctuating ranges. A power spectrum is a plot of the portion of a signal s power or energy per
unit time, falling within given frequency bands. The three major bands of the power spectrum in
HRV are high frequency (HF), low frequency (LF), and very low frequency (VLF). A HF peak
typically ranges between 0.15 Hz to 0.4 Hz, while a LF peak ranges from 0.06 to 0.15 Hz. A VLF
peak is below .05 Hz (Kamath Fallen, 1993). The LF is associated with blood pressure control and
reflects sympathetic activity. The HF is correlated with respiratory sinus arrhythmia and reflects
parasympathetic activity

Revolutions And Analysis Of Petrus
During a reading of the novel Disgrace and analysis of Petrus, my mind wandered to the aftermath
of the revolution in my home country Serbia. After fifty five years of rule, the oppressive
communist regime was finally overthrown and regular citizens could be heard, with almost
contagious optimism, saying I breathe with full lungs again . However, while we had many
benefits of adopting democracy and joining the international institution, one part of the population
quickly started theft of ex government companies; bribery and corruption were rampant within the
new democratic ruling class. That brings me back to my analysis; while the situation is not fully
comparable, the actions and behavior of Petrus in the novel Disgraceby J.M Coetzee symbolize
positive as well as negative power shift and socio economical changes of long oppressed majority
black population in post apartheid South African society. Much the same what my home country
experienced after the establishment of the new democratic institution, in a power vacuum,
sometimes immoral people who committed unlawful acts rise first in the hierarchy of the new
society. All the revolutions or transformation of the state have brought us advancements of
humanity, but also the dark reign of terror; we all can remember examples of French and Russian
revolution. I will present to you that J.M. Coetzee showed us both sides of that transfer of power in
the character of Petrus. First, the position of the black majority in

Pros And Cons Of A Great Looking Garden

To me a great looking garden is much more than just that just a smart looking lawn and finely cut
grass. It takes colour to bring a garden to life, colour that you can only get from plants and
flowers. However, after years of failing to grow plants I found that is a lot easier said than done. I
eventually sent for the pros when it came to planting and hired [COMPANY] to bring life to my

The United States Postal Service
The United States Postal Service (USPS) has been served as government institute since 1971.
During the nineteenth century, the USPS contributed to many people in several ways across the
United Stated. The twentieth century brought significant growth to the USPS, including different
size of package delivery service and airmail. Over the past decade, however, it has to compete with
electronic mailand various package delivery companies and it causes to have bad result. The
USPS faced with decreasing of total mail volume. The loss of income has induced the USPS to
consider changing their system of service such as shortage of delivery days. The online article in
a national newspaper (Source C) refers customers are continuing to migrate to the Internet and to
cheaper standard mail options and this causes to find new service system such as an end to
Saturday deliveries, longer delivery times for letters and packages, higher postage stamp prices that
exceed the rate of inflation, and the potential for future layoffs. I agree the USPS need to make
some significant changes at this point. However, I think that they need opposite way to continuing
their services such as getting into the e business, increase service, and advertise with coupons

problems in a graphic. Since 2000 to 2009, mail volumes are decreasing whereas the delivery

his entire life in a culture where vicious boys are the most popular, both in their Nigerian town

Wilfred Owen And Stevie Smith On Death

ENG 477
Professor Heidi Hartwig

Wilfred Owen and Stevie Smith on Death
Death, especially that of loved ones: it can be a sensitive topic for anyone. The main connotation
for the dead is that although not all circumstances can be revealed, the reasons behind their deaths
can eventually be assumed by the living. And while that may be true in the physical sense as the
dead cannot physically talk about their own deaths, two major British poets tend to disagree with
that belief. In their works, both poets Wilfred Owen and Stevie Smith believe that the dead have
more knowledge on the cause of their condition than do the living.
One way Wilfred Owen and Stevie Smith present their beliefs on this issue is by presenting the
public s thoughts on said person after their death. And while the public may be sympathetic at
times, often they are not in the case of Owen; and in the case of Smith, those who are sympathetic
tend to not have a good sense as to what the circumstances were leading up to this person s death.
Overall, the public tends to be ignorant on this topic.
Citing the public s opinions on death is evident in the case of Wilfred Owen s poetry, in both direct
and indirect form. The more indirect approach is in his poem Disabled, although the main
character in question is actually alive. However, the same scenario applies as this character is a
permanently disabled (and depressed) veteran; not to mention Owen (a soldier himself) wrote this
in the final year

Corporate Social Responsibility And Access Of Finance
The article Corporate Social Responsibility and Access to Finance was written by Cheng et al.
(2014) in order to show that firms that have better CSR performance are less capital constrained.
The aim of the essay is to argue that the analysis of the relationship between CSR policies and the
access to financeis a well done research with interesting arguments and analysis; however, it has
several limitations, which will be examined. The aim will be achieved through a critical analysis
of the paper. It will be done in four stages: first, the key arguments of the article, second, the
strong points of the article, third, the limitations of the research, and final stage, the specifications
of the outcome. In this paper Cheng et al. (2014) argued that the implementation of successful
CSR policies leads to lower idiosyncratic risk due to improved stakeholder engagement, which
reduce agency costs of an organisation, and increased transparency, which results a company
becoming less capitally constrained and enhances a firm s access to finance in capital markets. In
order to achieve their aim the authors use cross sectional analysis of firms around the world and
apply different variables and methods. They concluded that there is a link between good CSR
activities and access to finance; however, social and environmental components of CSR are more
significant for investors than the factor of governance since the former ones have higher impact on
capital constraints. It can be

Polar Bear Environmental Impact
Throughout history, humans have modified their environment to suit their needs, such as housing,
agriculture, and industry, but we are now seeing major changes to the environment on a scale not
witnessed before. The greenhouse effect has run rampant through man s use of fossil fuels and is
causing major changes to the planet, many unseen by people not directly affected. Human
overuse of dirty energies that produce CO2 has led to shrinking Arctic ice and warmer
temperatures that cause disruption for the animals and people who live there. Glaciers, in places
such as Iceland and Canada, and the Arctic ice sheet are melting, breeding seasons are changing,
and people and animals are being displaced (Greene et. al., 2008). Some changes have been... Show

The frequency of long distance swims in the polar bear population is increasing, beginning in late
spring as the sea ice starts melting, when the bears migrate from the sea ice to land or offshore
pack ice (Pilfold et. al. 2017). Warmer temperatures are causing ice to become much thinner and
more mobile. Instead of walking on a consolidated sea ice surface, polar bears may be forced to
undertake long distance swims to complete their migratory route (Pilfold et. al. :190, 2017).
Since polar bears are not pack animals, the effects of climate change on migratory behavior can
vary greatly between individual, and, therefore, this study compares male and female adults and
male and female subadults. Subadults of both sexes swam as much as an adult female did, but
adult females with cubs were less likely to swim than the other age classes (Pilfold et. al. 2017).
The swims are also made in correlation to the ice; there is a positive relation in the distance of the
ice from land and the rate in which it retreated with the frequency of swims. Most swims were
made before the ice had reached its minimum, and when it expands again, the bears track its
movement toward the continental shelf (Pilfold et. al.

Mold Research Paper
Mold is a fungus that grows in the form of multicellular filaments called hyphae. In contrast, fungi
that can adopt a single celled growth habit are called yeasts.
Mold is not an animal or plant, but it is alive. Mold is a living organism and is a type of fungus.
Mold can grow on any food besides bread; this makes it unable to eat. The fungus can grow on
ceilings, walls, and the floors of your house, also can be found outside of your home. Mold grows
from seeking through food, moisture, and warmth. The climate of where you live can affect the
mold growth in your home. The fungi can thrive and can reproduce into damp or wet places in or at
your house. Mold would usually grow from the temperatures forty a hundred degrees Fahrenheit.
Mold has about 300,000 species, and every house or place has mold. There may be even more
species than that, but not all of them have been identified so we are not sure. The fungus s best
place to grow is in a warm climate. The fungus is most likely to start growing in warm or damp
spots, and humid conditions. Fungi can keep growing when it starts to reproduce; this is done when
it makes spores. The spores can survive in the harsh environments, such as dry conditions, but in
places that do not support normal mold growth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sound Intensity In Crickets
The Effect of Sound Intensity and Type on the Foraging Time of the House Cricket, Acheta

The topic of interest was how instincts and perceptions affect the foragers through the ecology of
fear. The aim was to look at if sound intensity and/ or sound type affects the foraging time of
common house crickets. This was to see how foragers overall would react to a threat of predation
(the sound). Using a simple maze and a speaker we looked at two different types of sound as
well as a control the sound types consisted of a Bluebird and a 1000 Hz tone and a tone at 70
dBA. The run time was recorded by how long it took for the cricket to get from a start line to a
food source in the presence of the sounds or lack of. It was found that together the sound type and
intensity had a significant effect on the foraging time of the crickets. Separately the sound type had
no significant effect but the different intensities did have an effect.

The city life gave the Irish a chance to continue to stay close to their families and communities, a
chance to help one another out. This strong sense of belonging is evident in all Irish
communities; the upper class would only try to help their own by giving them jobs or housing.
The Irish did not only look to the streets for sanctuary, but also looked to a higher power. The most
important community was that of the local church. For many, social events at the churches, such as
dances and mixers, were a way for the Irish to unwind and relax. The churches and communities
helped the families of the Irish grow and provided a backbone for the next hundred years.
The improving times were not just a change for American, but also for the Irish. The improvement
of the economic status of the Irish Americans helped boost family lift and esprit. Most Irish
American families when first arriving in America had little or no money, thus forcing them to settle

church, where they practiced catholic views and preaching against contraception; therefore, many
Irish Catholics had very large families. Consequently, the economic rise of the Irish immigrants
provided families with the money to feed and clothe their large families. In addition, many Irish
Americans could now afford to send their children to parish schools, something many could not do

The Extent at Which Peer Group Affect Students Academic...
The Extent to which Peer Groups Affect Academic Performance Have you ever wondered about
the extent to which peer groups affect academic performance? Make no mistake; a peer group
can impact your child s academic performance significantly. However, to say that one s peer
group is the most influential factor in academic performance isn t true either. Let s take a look at
just how influential one s peer group is. [pic] The Extent to Which Peer Groups Affect Academic
Performance To answer the question, to what extent do peer groups affect academic performance,
in quantifiable terms is actually quite difficult. There are numerous variables to consider, however,

Parental Involvement Across the board, when taken into account with other factors including
ethnicity, socio economic factors, and even education of parents parental involvement is the
single most influential factor in academic success. Teens who have parents who are involved in
their lives and generally know what s going on at school are more likely to attend four year
colleges. Positive Role Models Positive adult role models help solidify a student s path on the road
to academic achievement. Be it a mentor, or someone in the family, a role model can make a big
difference. Setting high expectations for a student can make that student think twice before
engaging in risky behavior that might disappoint his mentor. Education as a Value Students who
believed that education was a means to pursue something higher and/or believed that education was
valuable tend to do better in school. One may well argue that this attitude again stems from parents,
although teachers can play a significant role as well. How Influential Are Peer Groups? It would
seem that while peer groups are fairly influential,

Japanese Geisha Stereotypes
Definition The most common misconception of a female in the geisha occupation is that a
geisha is a prostitute or call girl (Chan, 2001). Geisha are entertainers, these women are
vigorously trained in art, music, and dancing. Geisha translated from Japanese to English means
artist (The History and Culture of Japanese Geisha, 2008). Becoming a true geisha is a prestigious
honor to Japanese girls (The History and Culture of Japanese Geisha, 2008). If a girl who is
pursuing a career as a geisha starts before she is 21, she is referred to as a maiko, meaning child

ready for bed. This girl could be waiting until as late as two or three in the morning. During this
time of working in the okiya, the girls would be attending Hanamachi geisha school (Dalby, 1998,

College Should Offer Free Tuition
Having a college degree is considered to a vital part of being successful in today s day and age.
College degrees are really expensive, but in a long run they really pay off. College can be a big
financial burden so with that being said, in my opinion, I think community college should offer
free tuition with some sort of standards to be eligible for free tuition. President Barack Obama
conveyed a speech at Macomb Community Collegein Warren, Michigan this past September.
President Obama proposed a free educational cost at any two year junior collegeat length of their
stay as long as they were at least half time students, and they keep up a base evaluation point
normal of no less than 2.5 and the administration would cover seventy five percent of the costs to
the state getting the remaining total as stated by Silvia Munguia. CQ researcher Silvia Munguia,
states that Although some people may disapprove of the proposal, arguing that the country
would lose a lot of money and that offering free community colleges would not necessarily
improve our educational system nor guarantee students graduation from college, it is definitely a
great starting point. I agree with this because at the end of the day, you have to start somewhere.
Munguia also states There are many benefits of making the first two years of college free. If
Obama s proposal passes more people will be able to attend college and be better prepared upon
entering the job market. Free community colleges

group based on their membership * It is dependent on the perceived norms and acceptability of
doing so * Information that is consistent with prejudiced views often received closer attention

Threats to our group s interest can motivate prejudice and competition can escalate conflicts *
Holding prejudiced views of an out group allows members to bolster their own group s image. *
Prejudice stems from direct competition between groups over scarce and valued resources such
as land, jobs, housing etc. * As competition escalates, members of opposing groups view each
other in increasingly negative terms. * Competition can escalate into full scale, emotion laden
prejudice. * Prejudice is derived from our tendency to divide world into us and them .

Ryan Howard s Takeover Case Study
Ryan Howard was a major piece of the Phillies NL East dominance from 2007 2011, including
two runs to the World Series. However, since the 2011 season, the Phillies have been bottom
dwellers in the division and have missed the playoffs every year.
A few years ago, the Phillies began a rebuild so a new core of young players could carry the
torch. The rebuild started in December of 2014 when Philadelphia traded longtime shortstop
Jimmy Rollins to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Less than a year later, the Phillies followed the
Rollins trade by moving veteran pitcher Cole Hamels at the deadline last season, and second
baseman chase Utley less than a month after that. The trades, along with a few others, brought in an

Louis Cardinals outfielder Brandon Moss. Moss played well for the Phillies AAA affiliate in
2011 with a respectable .275 average and 23 home runs. However, it was none other than
Howard who blocked Moss from playing first base for the Phillies at the major league level. The
Phillies hoped Moss bat would translate to the big leagues and called him up that September,
but his stint didn t last long. The Phillies gave Moss just six at bats in five games, and he
scuffled his way to no hits and failed to get on base. Those six at bats were his last with
Philadelphia as Moss became a free agent after the season. Moss eventually signed with the
Oakland A s for the 2012 season, where he established himself as a major league player because
he was given the chance to start. It would truly be difficult for Phillies fans to see Ruf, like Moss,
thriving with a different team because he wasn t given a chance in Philly.
Ruf broke onto the scene in 2012 as the starting first baseman for the Phillies AA affiliate in
Reading, Pa. That year in Reading, Ruf played in 139 games, blasted 38 home runs and hit for an
average of .317. It s difficult to predict whether Ruf can tear it up as a starter in MLB, but
considering the Phillies current situation, it s certainly worth giving him a shot. The Phillies
rebuild has left them years away from actually competing for a playoff spot, so now is the perfect

Taxation of Foreign Corporations Essay
The past 150 years has seen corporations rise and become the main social institution for doing
business in America and across the globe. During the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries
America was marked by individually owned family oriented businesses. This framework began to
change with the economic growth in both America and Europe during the period between the
Civil War and World War I. A system once driven by granting charters seen as privileges has
evolved into a complex system beyond the understanding of any one person. This complexity often

The second is Delaware s corporation court, the Chancery Court. The specialized Chancery Court
of Delaware handles only business cases and are heard only by judges; no juries (Black).
Furthermore, the court has accumulated precedent since 1792 making its decisions predictable
which appeals to business officials (Vinzant). There are other less tangible qualities about
Delaware that can help lure in businesses, but the laws and the court are the main attractors. The
significance of the Delaware General Corporation Law lies in what are known as holding
companies, or shell companies. Delaware s corporate law is one of only three that allow for
their creation. The other two states are Nevada and Wyoming. Holding companies are corporate
subsidiaries that have ownership of the major corporation s patents, trademarks, and investments.
Of the 6,500 companies in Delaware more of them are these holding companies (Lynnley).
Holding companies are popular in part because of how easy they are to form. The processing
time for the approval of a holding company takes between 5 minutes to 60 days and the median
fee for creating a holding company is $95.00. Senator Levin of Michigan says that you have to

Analysis Of Chaim Potok s The Chosen, Verbal...
Since the beginning of time, humans have endeavored to express their thoughts to other humans.
Early on, humans may have expressed their thoughts through only body language and primitive
grunts; however, as civilization progressed, humans developed intelligible language. From
development of that early language, written language was sprouted. From some development of
that written language, other forms of communication came into being. Today, many forms of
communication exist; however, all of them center around verbal communication. In Chaim
Potok s critically acclaimed novel, The Chosen, verbal communication, or the lack thereof, is a
main theme. The lack of communication, silence, in The Chosen is used by Potok not only to
show the suffering of his characters but also to symbolize the struggles of the Jewish people.
Potok uses silence prominently in The Chosen to show isolation. Both of the protagonists in the
book experience an isolating silence; for example, the silence imposed upon Danny is a main
component of the novel s plot. Danny s pain and isolation is caused by his father s silence toward
him. Reb Saunders, Danny s father, doesn t speak with Danny because he believes that being
silent toward Danny is what is best for him; however, the other characters of the book see only that
the silence causes Danny suffering. Reb s silence toward Danny would seem cruel in a normal
situation, but in Danny s situation, it seems to be atrocious. In the forties, being a Jew

Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, And Mesopotamia
In ancient Egypt, Rome and Mesopotamia the connections that the people had with their rulers
stemmed from their belief that their ruler had a close connection with their God s. Because of the
vast role that religion played in their lives it was important to show their admiration and
appreciation for these royal beings. From a psychological standpoint, through their style,
significance, and idealization, Mesopotamia, Egypt and Rome s depictions of royalty within their
artworks functioned as the best way to encompass the impression, and supremacy that a ruler held
over their people.
For many of the people of Mesopotamia the most important part of their society was their
religion and their royalty. They believed that they held close relationships with their Gods and
they believed that their rulers were the closest possible connection that they had to their Gods.
An ancient Sumerian proverb states Man is the shadow of God, but the king is God s reflection
(Alexander). The king was believed to be personally chosen by the gods and acting in their will
however they were not considered to be god like.
The king s responsibilities included participating in religious rituals, managing the state during
peace and war time, and creating laws. The Mesopotamians believed that in order to protect
themselves they needed to gain more resources and people and this was done by expanding and
conquering surrounding areas. Another role of the king was to issue codes of law with the ideal

appointments deciding between an appropriate medication to stop aches and pains, and when is
an appropriate time to return to work? This injury is unlike any I have ever experienced and

understand the conflict thoroughly, and personally begin to find ways to create new ideas that may
lead to growth and development; that can reassure an ability to perform within the daily hustle of
business. I have chosen to reference the Ladder of Inference for critically analyzing the conflict.

The Viability of Nuclear Energy Essay
The world as we know today is dependent on energy. The options we have currently enable us to
produce energy economically but at a cost to the environment. As fossil fuel source will be
diminishing over time, other alternatives will be needed. An alternative that is presently utilized is
nuclear energy. Nuclear energy is currently the most efficacious energy source. Every time the word
nuclear is mentioned, the first thought that people have is the devastating effects of nuclear energy.
Granting it does come with its drawbacks; this form of energy emits far less pollution than
conventional power plants. Even though certain disadvantages of nuclear energy are devastating,
the advantages contain even greater rewards.

As a result, numerous countries are creating more nuclear power plants. From the 1990s, the rate of
nuclear power plants constructed increased because of technological and managerial, deregulation,

As each year passes, more and more electricity will be made as a result of increased nuclear power
plants around the world. The economic benefits of nuclear energy are equally advantageous as the
environmental aspects.
A competitive, safe and environmentally sustainable energy source can be established anywhere on
earth. Essential, all that is needed to create a nuclear power plant is a water source to cool down the
reactor and uranium. Uranium can be found virtually in every country on earth. Even though it
might be harder for certain countries to obtain uranium, there would be no problem in finding it

nuclear power stations are safe. The various barriers and numerous safety measures make it very
unlikely for catastrophes to transpire. The most up to date plants have a reactor core failure 1 in 1

Analysis Of The Poem A Sorrowful Woman
Once upon a time there was a wife and mother one too many times (Godwin 39). This short story
begins with the famous opening, once upon a time, which foreshadows that the story line will be
similar to a fairy tale. It raises expectations for the story that all will be magical and end happily. A
typical modern day fairy taleis that of a distressed character who overcomes an obstacle, falls in
love with prince charming, and they ride off into the sunset; living happily ever after never to be
heard from again. Godwin however, puts an unexpected twist on A Sorrowful Woman . This short
story is a tale about what can happen when everyday roles take over our identity. Ultimately, this
short story challenges societal expectations of marriage... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Divorce from marriage would break the bounds of normality for this time period. Traditionally,
women were stay at home who tended to the children, house chores, and duties when needed.
Purposely, Godwin doesn t give the characters names. This is important because it implies that the
characters are not people, but they represent their role within the family. Godwin mocks a fairy tale
by having the characters actions contradict expectations. This is shown when the mother is literally
sick at the sight of her family (Godwin 39). Also when the child pretends to be a tiger and
scratches the mother, scaring her off so she didn t want to be alone with the boy anymore. The
husband doesn t save the wife from her state, he simply understands it and finds other solutions.
He hires a girl to help care for the boy, but the mother resents this. The mother wishes to be happy
with her roles but she cannot accept them, and despises the perfect girl for doing what she is
unable to (Godwin 40 41 ).
The mother leads a life where her duties and societal expectations are met, but by doing this her
happiness is lost. Once upon a time implies that she thought her life as a wife and mother would
be perfect. The wife even attempts to find new roles to replace the ones she holds which do not suit
her, She tried these personalities on like costumes, then discarded them (Godwin 42).

Results The Effect of Blood saving Apparatus on Hemoglobin, Hematocrit and Transfusion A prospective randomized controlled trial that had 127 participants compared venous, arterial blood management (VAMP) system in relation to transfusion requirement, preserved hemoglobin and hematocrit. The study found that the VAMP was effective on conserving hemoglobin(hgb) and hematocrit (hct) (H H); however, the study failed to show, the use of VAMP decreased the number of RBC transfused (Rezende et al., 2010). Final results on hct were 26.5g/dl in the control group vs 29.4g/dl in the intervention group with a P value of 0.006; the final result of hgb in both groups were 9.1g/dl in the control group vs 9.7g/dl in the intervention group (P= ... The statistical significance of (P 0.001) a 65% reduction in blood loss (Riessen et al., 2015). In addition, the units of red blood cells transfused per 100 patients days were 7.0 units in the control group and 2.3 units in the intervention group; (P 0.01); in addition there was positive correlation between lower hemoglobin levels on admission and longer ICU stay (r = 16, P 0.01); however, there is almost no correlation, at best very weak correlation between APACHE II score in relation to lower hemoglobin level and the length of ICU stay (r = 0.17, P 0.01) (Thomas, Jensen, Nahirniak, Gibney, 2009). While the degree of anemiawas not related to the cohort s gender, age, diagnosis, comorbidities and blood draws, there is a strong correlation between the length of ICU stay and number of transfusion (r =0.78, P .01); and weaker correlation between patients sickness on admission in relation to transfusion requirement (r =0.24, P .05); however, there is a strong correlation between blood loss due to blood draws and the rate of transfusion requirement (r =0.80, P .01) (Thomas et al., 2009). • 3. Love Is Love By Cartoon Arts International Essay Love is Love? In a close five to four Supreme Court ruling vote on June 26th, 2015, same sex couples gained the right to marry in all fifty states (Kenneth, Gay Rights ). As this news spread, some were displeased, some were overjoyed, and some were somewhere in the middle. The wide range of views on this topic made it easy to be turned into a satire. A comic by Cartoon Arts International shows a man complaining to his wife that same sex marriageis hurting heterosexual marriage, in which the wife retaliates and makes a comment about divorcing him because of his stated opinion (Kurtzman). It is ironic that the woman talks about destroying their heterosexual marriage because she didn t like what her husband said, and the husband claims that heterosexual marriages are being hurt because of homosexual marriage. The reasoning behind the comic is to persuade the reader to agree with the point of view it representsp, or to believe that homosexual marriage has no effect on heterosexual marriages, and to do so in a comedic way to lighten the tension of the multitude of views on the topic of gay marriage. Although this satire and many others are mainly made to persuade an audience to one binary viewpoint of an issue, there are many other viewpoints outside of the two binaries. Before the legalization of marriage equality was established, the Defense of Marriage Act (DoMA), had been reigning since 1996, when President Bill Clinton signed it into a law after it was passed through ... There they were, the words I never thought would appear on our 29 inch Sony screen: Sizzlin Hot Country . The appearance of American country music on the Kenyan airwaves was the latest sign that American culture had penetrated the borders of my country. Sagging soon caught on with many students and yet again, I admit, with me. Sagging probably had its origins in the popular American hip hop that appears on many local channels. While walking around in school, I would find students mimicking the popular 2 Pac and Dr. Dre , with a Wesssaaid sounding in the air occasionally. A friend was also nicknamed Krayzie Bone, after a member of the Bone Thugs N Harmony group. Baggy jeans that could have fit two people at a time were also the order of the day at many parties and get togethers. Donning DKNY, Karlkani, CK and Adidas attire made one hip. Jeans had become such a popular article that during our school s annual Cultural Day, the only day when one could or would show off one s cultural attire, they were banned. School dances and parties rarely featured traditional songs. Instead, American icons like Aaliyah, Dr Dre and Britney Spears dominated the playlists. Roaming the grounds of my secondary school, I would find a girl singing out What a girl wants, what a girl... in a desperate attempt to mimic pop idol Christina Aguilera. • 11. Confused Congregation By William Shakespeare Confused Congregation During Shakespeare s time, the Protestant religion was required to be followed by law. This protestant religion provided the view to its followers that their lives were controlled by a predestined fate. The people were totally helpless in their movements in their lives who already had a path laid out in front of them and they could do nothing to divert the path. This truth of the protestant movement was in a constant rivalry with the opposing view of Catholicism. The catholic view and belief is that the path of life is freely chosen not dependent or controlled by some force or fate. This struggle and this confusion with which religion, with its two opposing factors of fate versus free will along with their contrasting ornate and historic ceremony and traditions, is seen and demonstrated in all its glory by the characters and plot in many of Shakespeare s plays. This confusion, due to the flip flopping of religions and the nostalgia involved as one religion is replaced with another in a seemingly unending cycle during Shakespeare s time, creates the hodgepodge religious backdrop for his plays. The struggle of religion was real during Shakespeare s time. The constant back and forth of the protestant and catholic views stemmed straight from the top. The monarch of England was calling the shots of which religion was best for England based on the monarch s own advantages or disadvantages of each religion. It shows how an unexpected white elephant can affect their relationship, force them to bring life changing decisions, and present a threat to their self identity. Besides the main argument, the author through the scenery and the dialog are presenting other conflicts and arguments. Some of them are the nonverbal communication, what choices they have, and the couple s future. The author of the story, Ernest Hemingway, was born in 1861 in the Chicago suburbs. In his life, he traveled to different places in the world, and he was married four times. During the Spanish Civil War,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although it seems simple, the story carries a couple of parallel explanations about the situation. Hemingway has never mentioned the word in his story, but the main topic of conversation between the couple is abortion. First of all, the story shows the balance of power of the man and the woman in the relationship. After finding that Jig is pregnant, the man is trying to talk her into having an awfully simple operation . (Hemingway) When it comes to power in the relationship, at first the man is trying to be dominant. He does not show any interest in the woman s health, and he is insensitive to Jig s needs. Hemingway in the story represents the American as a man who wants his woman to serve solely as the source of his sexual pleasure, who denies her the motherhood that she desires. (Holder). However, soon after, he receives a rejection from Jig. I know we will. You don t have to be afraid. I ve known lots of people that have done it. So have I. And afterwards they were all so happy. (Hemingway) . The woman is trying to tell the man that she does not want to end up regretting this decision that can ruin her life. She is trying to stop the man of talking nonsense and that she knows about the effects of such procedure. In the next dialog Hemingway is defining the pregnancy by using the hills and the white elephants to describe the relationship: The girl was looking off at the line of hills. ... The cultural elements I chose to go more indepth are Social Organizations, Customs and Traditions, Language, and Religion of the Pawnee tribe. For the Social Organizations I will discuss the social classes, and the political organization of the tribe. For Customs and Traditions I will examine the rules of behavior, as well as the food they consumed. For LanguageI will discuss the written and the unwritten language as well as the common language with the other bands. Lastly I will talk about the Religion and go into more details on their rituals, and their beliefs. I believe that the longevity of the tribe was directly related to the way they lived. The social organization of the Pawneetribe consisted of the social class, and the political organization. The Pawnee tribe was divided into four main bands the Chaui or the Great Band , the Kitkahahki or the Republican , the Pirahauerat or the Tappage and the Skiri or the Wolf Pawnee . These four bands made up the political organization. The Chaui are generally recognized as being the leading band although each band was autonomous, that is until outside pressures from the Europeans and neighboring tribes saw the Pawnee drawing closer together. They make a man a useful member of the world, making one functional in both their professional life and personal life by helping us to win the favor and confidence of others. In order to have progress in life, good manners are essential. On the other hand, an ill mannered man is generally shunned by everyone and has no chance of success in any walk of life he pursues. In today s society, proper etiquetteand good manners are almost nonexistent in some parts of the country and we have to ask ourselves why this is. Why do people lack the basic etiquette that is essential to living a professional and respectful life? The answer is that people are uneducated on these topics. The fact is most parents don t do a good enough job building good etiquette habits in their children and there is absolutely no requirement for the skills in the school systems. They may be enforced but they are in no form taught in a formal classroom setting. In order to improve our society and educate people of these essential etiquettes we must implement proper etiquette and life skills classes in the youth school systems. Family household dynamics are drastically different in today s society. According to the California ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In No Man Is an Island by John Donne, he claims that no person is an island of their own. Donne talks about humanity, unity, and mortality, which originate from his illness, and the recent death of his wife for whom the bell tolls. (12) Through the use of an extended earth metaphor, symbols, and shift in tone, Donne conveys the importance of humankind and life. (Mention something about his deceased wife, and him being terminally ill) Donne starts off this poem with an extended earth metaphor. No man is an island, entire of itself; (1). This line is used to open the poem with a strong statement. This line helps begin the extended by stating that no individual is completely isolated. He uses an extended metaphor where he compares the different groups of people to earthy symbols, and as he continues through the sections, he writes more individually. This shift in tone helps the audience feel more connected to the words because Donne is speaking in first person, making it more personal. This personal message is absorbed by the reader through the help of symbols, which make it easier for the reader to connect and relate to the mean of the poem. Everyone has a purpose and makes an ... The group format is used to encourage students to learn from each other, to motivate students to consider alternative viewpoints, to develop students understanding of group dynamics, and to limit the amount of time required of the project for both students and the faculty who must grade it. Each professor uses a different approach in selecting the industry and companies for analysis. One professor takes industry suggestions from the class (with the restriction that there be sufficient companies so that no more than two groups will have to analyze the same pair of companies), writes the suggestions on the board, and asks students to vote for their top two choices. Then, a second vote is taken from among the top two original suggestions, with a majority vote determining the industry to be analyzed. Immunology is a very important area of both veterinary and human medicine, the basic principles of the studies of this science is the same for both areas of the medicine. Such is the case for the vaccine for Brucella abortus strain RB 51, causing agent of Brucellosis, created by Dr. Schurig with help from the Colorado Serum Company. But understanding how the immune system works in multicellular organisms, especially those in the higher kingdoms has brought and opened an entire world, which has developed a subtopic, a very important art of science. Vaccines are the result of the understanding of the functional and always active immune system in higher organisms, such as humans and animals. The origin of the term vaccine came along in the 18th century by Edward Jenner who described the Variolae vaccinae a disease commonly known as Cow Pox (Riedel, 2005). Etymologically, the word vaccine comes from the Latin word vacca that means cow, this explains how Jenner coined the term vaccine , a word that has stuck in the science area and is very much used by anyone, still in the 21st century. This medical progress was first step to develop the real idea of the vaccination, the original concept of vaccination aims to mimic the development of naturally acquired immunity by inoculation of nonpathogenic but still immunogenic components of the pathogen in question (Meeusen et al 2007). Although there is a long list of characteristics, all of them do not have to actually be in the play for it to be revenge. First, in order to have a revenge tragedy play, there must be a murder committed of some kind involved most likely towards the beginning. Proper training is also essential for defining roles and functions for each member of the troops to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of the entire units. Confusion of formations and chain of command during battle can be devastating to any unit. Uniformity is crucial in minimizing losses and the number of casualties in battlefields. Similarly, it is neccesary to avoid conflict of interest among soldiers of the same troopand with allies. • 22. grendelbeo Epic of Beowulf Essay The Evil of Grendel in Beowulf The story of Beowulf, written during Anglo Saxon times, is a classic epic tale between good versus evil. It is a story that gives us insight into the values of the Anglo Saxon people. The Anglo Saxons glorified heroism and the conquering of evil. In the Anglo Saxon epic Beowulf, the character of Grendel symbolically represents evil through his setting and heritage, his hateful attitude toward men, and his vicious acts of murder. Grendel s heritage and setting are two things that attribute to Grendel s evilness. In the story the author tells us that Grendel was a descendant of Cain(the son of Adam and Eve, who was cursed by God for killing his brother Abel). The poet writes, Conceived ... The poet writes, A powerful monster, living down in the darkness, growled in pain, impatient as day after day the music rang loud in that hall, the harps rejoicing (lines 23 26). The poet suggests that the monster loathes the Danes for their loudness. Another reason for the monster s hatred toward men could be because he is jealous of the humans. Grendel knows that he can not be accepted in their group and be one of them. The monster uses this as an excuse to kill them, and he keeps the grudge against them no matter how many of the men he kills. The poet writes, How the monster relished his savage war on the Danes, keeping the bloody feud alive, seeking no peace, offering no truce, accepting no settlement, no price in gold or land, and paying the living for one crime with another (lines 89 94). The author shows us that Grendel will not forgive the Danes, even though the Danes didn t even know they were committing a crime against Grendel. Grendel s evilness is fueled by his hatred of men. The author writes, Seeing how Grendel hunted when they slept. Distance was safety; the only survivors were those fled him. Hate had triumphed (lines 78 80). HRV is a non invasive index of the neural control of the heart (Acharya, Sing, Ping Chua, 2004). Although it is difficult to establish a particular standard normal heart rate for a given individual, most individuals have a typical range from 60 to 100 beats per minute (Fox et al., 2007). However, the interval between each heartbeat constantly varies. High frequency variability in RR reflects parasympathetic activation, while a slower variability in RR reflects a combination of both parasympathetic and sympathetic modulation along with non autonomic factors. When interpreting HRV data, there are several components in the power spectrum that can have fluctuating ranges. A power spectrum is a plot of the portion of a signal s power or energy per unit time, falling within given frequency bands. The three major bands of the power spectrum in HRV are high frequency (HF), low frequency (LF), and very low frequency (VLF). A HF peak typically ranges between 0.15 Hz to 0.4 Hz, while a LF peak ranges from 0.06 to 0.15 Hz. A VLF peak is below .05 Hz (Kamath Fallen, 1993). After fifty five years of rule, the oppressive communist regime was finally overthrown and regular citizens could be heard, with almost contagious optimism, saying I breathe with full lungs again . However, while we had many benefits of adopting democracy and joining the international institution, one part of the population quickly started theft of ex government companies; bribery and corruption were rampant within the new democratic ruling class. That brings me back to my analysis; while the situation is not fully comparable, the actions and behavior of Petrus in the novel Disgraceby J.M Coetzee symbolize positive as well as negative power shift and socio economical changes of long oppressed majority black population in post apartheid South African society. Much the same what my home country experienced after the establishment of the new democratic institution, in a power vacuum, sometimes immoral people who committed unlawful acts rise first in the hierarchy of the new society. All the revolutions or transformation of the state have brought us advancements of humanity, but also the dark reign of terror; we all can remember examples of French and Russian revolution. • 28. Wilfred Owen And Stevie Smith On Death Chris Shea ENG 477 Professor Heidi Hartwig 04/21/16 Wilfred Owen and Stevie Smith on Death Death, especially that of loved ones: it can be a sensitive topic for anyone. The main connotation for the dead is that although not all circumstances can be revealed, the reasons behind their deaths can eventually be assumed by the living. And while that may be true in the physical sense as the dead cannot physically talk about their own deaths, two major British poets tend to disagree with that belief. In their works, both poets Wilfred Owen and Stevie Smith believe that the dead have more knowledge on the cause of their condition than do the living. One way Wilfred Owen and Stevie Smith present their beliefs on this issue is by presenting the public s thoughts on said person after their death. And while the public may be sympathetic at times, often they are not in the case of Owen; and in the case of Smith, those who are sympathetic tend to not have a good sense as to what the circumstances were leading up to this person s death. Overall, the public tends to be ignorant on this topic. Citing the public s opinions on death is evident in the case of Wilfred Owen s poetry, in both direct and indirect form. The more indirect approach is in his poem Disabled, although the main character in question is actually alive. However, the same scenario applies as this character is a permanently disabled (and depressed) veteran; not to mention Owen (a soldier himself) wrote this in the final year ... The aim of the essay is to argue that the analysis of the relationship between CSR policies and the access to financeis a well done research with interesting arguments and analysis; however, it has several limitations, which will be examined. The aim will be achieved through a critical analysis of the paper. It will be done in four stages: first, the key arguments of the article, second, the strong points of the article, third, the limitations of the research, and final stage, the specifications of the outcome. In this paper Cheng et al. (2014) argued that the implementation of successful CSR policies leads to lower idiosyncratic risk due to improved stakeholder engagement, which reduce agency costs of an organisation, and increased transparency, which results a company becoming less capitally constrained and enhances a firm s access to finance in capital markets. In order to achieve their aim the authors use cross sectional analysis of firms around the world and apply different variables and methods. The frequency of long distance swims in the polar bear population is increasing, beginning in late spring as the sea ice starts melting, when the bears migrate from the sea ice to land or offshore pack ice (Pilfold et. al. 2017). Instead of walking on a consolidated sea ice surface, polar bears may be forced to undertake long distance swims to complete their migratory route (Pilfold et. al. :190, 2017). Since polar bears are not pack animals, the effects of climate change on migratory behavior can vary greatly between individual, and, therefore, this study compares male and female adults and male and female subadults. The aim was to look at if sound intensity and/ or sound type affects the foraging time of common house crickets. This was to see how foragers overall would react to a threat of predation (the sound). Using a simple maze and a speaker we looked at two different types of sound as well as a control the sound types consisted of a Bluebird and a 1000 Hz tone and a tone at 70 dBA. The run time was recorded by how long it took for the cricket to get from a start line to a food source in the presence of the sounds or lack of. Many migrate to the U.S for a better life, but for Juana, this was her biggest fear. She loved the country she was born in, and the city that build her. However, she realized how amazing it is to face a new world and the mysteries you can discover. She was living in a world filled with joy, laughter, and peace. Her childhood was her favorite memorable moment in Mexico. I remember during the summer; the flowers would bloom and together with my friends would create a different design with each flower we found. said Juana. The smell of tortillas was her favorite smell of the entire world, so every time she smelled a tortilla she felt right at home. She lived in a ranch close to a city called Dolores Hidalgo. The ranch that Juana was from were a lot of trees covered in dust, and there was a stream where they would wash their clothes and they would take showers. The ranch was about 4 acres, she lived with 2 older brothers. The house they lived in was a simple house made of adobe. Dolores Hidalgo was the nearest city to their home. The city that s filled with beautiful trees and music. Juana would of never imagine of leaving her best loved city. At the age of 21 Juana was told she was going to face a new life and she immediately poured tears. The immigration security guard glared at Juana and asked, Why are you coming to the Unites States? Juana looked at him with innocence and spoke, My parents are going to visit some family members. The guard looked at her parents and said, Okay, let me see your visas in a vociferous voice. The guard looked at Juana in the eyes and spoke with confidence, I m so sorry but you and your parents can t leave the country , Juana immediately grinned. For many, social events at the churches, such as dances and mixers, were a way for the Irish to unwind and relax. The churches and communities helped the families of the Irish grow and provided a backbone for the next hundred years. The improving times were not just a change for American, but also for the Irish. The improvement of the economic status of the Irish Americans helped boost family lift and esprit. Most Irish American families when first arriving in America had little or no money, thus forcing them to settle in the urban centers of the Northeast. Within the cities, families were close and revolved around the church, where they practiced catholic views and preaching against contraception; therefore, many Irish Catholics had very large families. College degrees are really expensive, but in a long run they really pay off. College can be a big financial burden so with that being said, in my opinion, I think community college should offer free tuition with some sort of standards to be eligible for free tuition. President Barack Obama conveyed a speech at Macomb Community Collegein Warren, Michigan this past September. President Obama proposed a free educational cost at any two year junior collegeat length of their stay as long as they were at least half time students, and they keep up a base evaluation point normal of no less than 2.5 and the administration would cover seventy five percent of the costs to the state getting the remaining total as stated by Silvia Munguia. I agree with this because at the end of the day, you have to start somewhere. Munguia also states There are many benefits of making the first two years of college free. From development of that early language, written language was sprouted. From some development of that written language, other forms of communication came into being. Today, many forms of communication exist; however, all of them center around verbal communication. In Chaim Potok s critically acclaimed novel, The Chosen, verbal communication, or the lack thereof, is a main theme. The lack of communication, silence, in The Chosen is used by Potok not only to show the suffering of his characters but also to symbolize the struggles of the Jewish people.
