Understanding The Trinity By Alister E.mcgrath
Understanding the Trinity, by Alister E.McGrath
Alister E. McGrath is a historian, biochemist, and Christian theologian from Ireland. A longtime
professor at Oxford University, he now holds the Chair in Theology, ministry and education at the
University of London. Among other of his writings are: Christianity s Dangerous Idea; In the
Beginning; and The Twilight of Atheism. He is known for his work in historical theology,
systematic theology and other writings on apologetics.
Understanding the Trinity by Dr. McGrath is a book worth reading for those who want to learn more
about the Trinity. Although having an apologetic formula, the message the author is trying to
convey is not rooted on such. From the beginning, the author emphasizes the need for a personal
encounter with God in order to validate its existence, something that can happen to anyone.
McGrath further develops a number of models, which he assumes will help individuals create a
conception of God. Using illustrations and models, the author tries to help the reader understand the
limitations of fully understanding the nature of the divine, and the notion of Trinity.
The book does not thoroughly explain the doctrine of the Trinity. What the author seems to convey
is how to understand the Trinity itself, but the concept of it. The author explains that we as humans
are incompatible to fully understand the reality of the trinity, which leaves us to look at the models
that God has revealed to us in the Bible. If

The Problem Of Weight Watchers
Introduction and Problem Statement
Weight Watchers has faced a number of issues in the past several years, many of which are
highlighted in the case study for this assignment. The company was able to reach a financial high
point earlier this decade in 2011 when it recorded a record breaking 1.8 billion in revenues.
However, the company s finances have slowly dwindled ever since then, culminating in losses for
seven straight quarters and low stock prices at the beginning of 2015. The core of the problems it
was facing were relatively straightforward. The weight loss industry was changing, and Weight
Watchers was having difficult changing along with it. Specifically, the company had troubles
modernizing its business model to account for the digital age as represented by increasing online
options for weight loss. This fact was compounded by the reality that there was greater competition,
including that from organizations whose primary business was to capitalize on digital technology
to attract customers. Technologies such as mobile devices, mobile applications, cloud computing,
and social media had made considerable strides in the way that people were monitoring and
attempting to lose weight. Weight Watchers, however, had had only marginal success using these
technologies, and faced the undesirable situation in which its methods were becoming rapidly
outdated.
Financial Analysis: Vision/Mission
The vision of Weight Watchers has always been fairly basic in nature. The company

Toyota s Ethical Issue Of Toyota
Hold on and pray. These were the last words spoken to a 911 operator on August 29, 2009,
before the speaker, Christopher Lastrella, and 3 family members died in a horrific car accident
in San Diego, California. The cause of the crash? The pedal of the rented Lexus E350 was stuck
in full throttle, hurtling the car down the highway at speeds of up to 120 miles per hour, rendering
the brakes completely useless. Those who passed away included two adult men, an adult woman,
and a thirteen year old girl. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the floor mat had
caused the accelerator to be caught and unable to be released. This incident would serve as the
initial event that jumpstarted the public s concern for exactly what was going on with many Toyota
models. In this paper, we will explore the ethical issue that was present in this case, whether or not
Toyota acted ethically in its handling of the unintended acceleration of its vehicles. In order to do
this, we will examine the situation in the light of the six step Hosmer s moral reasoning process.
This will include, among other aspects, an examination of the event in consideration of shareholder,
stakeholder, and virtue theory. In addition to that, the authors will apply the Total Integrity
Management model to Toyota s actions in order to examine the moral integrity of the company as it
pertains to trust. To conclude the paper, the authors will provide a normative statement regarding
the actions of Toyota. To

Maya Angelou Reunion
Often in works of literature many authors have written about discrimination s towards African
Americans. One author that who is famous for this was talks mostly about this was Maya
Angelou. One short story that she had written that shows this is The Reunion . This work of
literature is important for the readers to read because the people need to know in life that there are
many obstacles to achieve in order to be successful. In the short story, The Reunion by Maya
Angelou, Philomena struggles in life have made her achieved obstacles.
To begin with, Maya Angelou was born April 4, 1928, in St. Louis, MO. She was an author,
actress, screenwriter, dancer, and poet. Maya Angelou experienced discrimination and racial
prejudices for being an African Americanin Arkansas. She was raped by her mother s boyfriend
and as a revenge her uncles killed her mother s boyfriend. In 1944, Maya was 16 years old when
she gave birth to her son after a short lived high school relationship. Adding to this, Maya Angelou

Pros And Cons Of Vice President Joe Biden
This week, speculation about a potential presidential run from Vice President Joe Biden has
increased. Maureen Dowd, a columnist for the New York Times wrote that the death of his son,
Beau, has caused him to reconsider running in the 2016 election. She reports that he has been
meeting with friends and family about becoming a candidate. Dowd never named any sources and
the credibility of the report is not good. But it has ignited a debate this week over whether the 72
year old Vice President, will run, should run, and any possible question less certain the media can
ask than Will Hillary win the Democratic nomination? Biden has not ruled out a third presidential
campaign but has done nothing to indicate one either. Aides say many condolence... Show more

Biden is well liked by nearly everyone in Washington and his supportive role in the Obama
administration has helped his stature. He s seen as an authentic and funny guy. While Biden
makes a great Onion headline and uncle, his vulnerabilities make him not a great candidate for
president. Biden s previous presidential campaigns have been terribly executed. In 1988, Biden
plagiarized speeches from a British politician, destroying any chance of a successful campaign.
Biden ran for president in 2008 as well, earning less than one percent of the vote in Iowa. Biden
s foreign policy and national security record is slim at best. Obama s first secretary of defense
wrote that he found him nearly always wrong on issues of foreign policy and national security.
Despite recent drop in polling numbers, over 75 percent of Democrats support Hillary. She s
garnered more endorsements at this stage of the election than any modern era. She s raised 68
million dollars. Biden doesn t have a significant advantage over Hillary in the general election. If
voters are tired of Obama and Democrats, they re tired of Biden as well. His age is also a
hinderance as well. While Americans aren t concerned about a 72 year old executing the duties of
vice president, most don t know what a vice president does. Biden would be 74 on the date of his
potential inauguration. Reagan was nearly 70. If for some reason Clinton bombs out of the race,
Biden is the candidate with the best odds. But until then, the odds of him winning the Democratic
nomination aren t good enough for him to

The Gathering Place Shan Jackson Case Summary
Shania Jackson, a woman of strong Christian faith wants to open a coffee shop named The
Gathering Place, on the outskirts of Denver, Colorado. Shania has a lot of issues to consider
before opening her first coffee house. I will take a look at Shania s case and come up with the best
options for her to run a successful business using biblical scripture. First, I would tell Shania she
should create her business organization by sole proprietorship. According to the U.S. Small
Business Administration (n.d.), sole proprietorship is an unincorporated business owned and run by
one individual with no distinction between the business and the own. Due to Shania s husband
Marvin having no interest in contributing to the business, Shania would be the only owner.
However, since Marvin is making a contribution to the capital to the business I would have them
both pray about this decision. With a sole proprietorship, Shania would be entitled to all the
business income, debts, losses and liabilities. Marvin would have to have trust and... Show more

In the scripture, it is very clear that Shania needs to include Christian believers as business
partners. Paul tells us, Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has
righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness (2 Corinthians 6:14,
ESV) ? Forming a business partnership with a nonbeliever would be unwise because Christian
practices will not be to importance of them. It is important when forming a business partnership
that your partner acts in good faith and does what is best for the business. If the partner does
something that is not a representation of the business mission, Shania will be liable. Shania wants

Barefoot Running Essay
Footwear, accepted and denied
Running for sport and recreation are perhaps as unique as the enthusiasts who first roused the
market. Today, that market (running shoes) is changing. While the 21st century has propelled us
into an age of hyper engineered performance gear and space age wicking fabrics; barefoot running
has reinvented the marketplace, while simultaneously inspiring the new generation (Sprinkle 2004).
The idea that running barefoot can be beneficial is a relatively liberal idea in a comparatively
conservative culture (today s running community, particularly with respect to shoes). And, while
the majority of research on the evolution of human locomotion has focused primarily on walking,
the demand for a new perspective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Still, provided that running is generally considered to have played no major role in human
evolution it s likely that the shoe industry (in combination with barefoot advocates) will, for some
time, continue to influence popular opinion more than concrete, reliable research (Nature 2004).
In an August 2004 issue of Runner s World magazine, Amby Burfoot quoted England s Bruce
Tulloh: The only reason that more people don t run barefoot is that they re afraid to be
unconventional. Burfoot adds, Famous runners had gone barefoot before us, of course. In 1960
Ethiopia s Abebe Bikila, won the first of his consecutive gold medals sans shoes in a world
record 2:15:17. Though Burfoot and Tulloh s points are relevant, there is a heavy bias that
remains, attached to their competitive running accolades. Amby Burfoot was himself a
competitive U.S. Marathoner, whose peak years came in the late 60 s and early 70 s when he
won the Boston Marathon (1957) and competed twice in the Olympic Marathon (1956, 1960).
Likewise, when Bruce Tulloh and Abebe Bikila were breaking European records in the 50 s and
60 s; a greater number of runners were gunning for far lesser 5k and Marathon personal bests.

The Woman In Black Play Analysis
The Fortune Theatre in London performed the production The Woman in Black, on the 9th June
2016. This phenomenal Gothic production explores the spine chilling story of a woman who had a
child out of wed lock in the Victorian era. She wanted revenge for the tragic death of her young son
Nathaniel. The solicitor Mr Kipps discovers the unknown secrets of Eel Marsh House when reading
through Alice Drablow unwanted files. I found this production exhilarating and chilling.
When entering the Victorian proscenium arch theatre, the air was icy with sudden breezes that
made me feel uncomfortable and nervous. The seating layouts of 400 seats were steep and close in
proxemics to make you feel crowed and claustrophobic. The use of yellow, dim house lights...

This was presented effectively on how the Woman in Black was dressed. The use of a light
weight black lace created the illusion that she was a ghostly figure gliding across the stage; the
lace displays her wealth it also showed her to being delicate and sensitive women as she uses it
as a mask her appearance. Her bonnet deems her to be seen as more vast, making her more
powerful and threatening. This was shown in Act One, where Mr Kipps and Jerome visited the
graveyard to mourn the death of Mrs Alice Drablow, where the ghostly figure of Jennet
Humphreys was able to move across the stage at a swift pace. The use of prosthetic makeup was
used to create her wasting face as she had Contracted a disease which caused her to begin to waste
away. The flesh shrank from her bones, the colour drained from her. This was hidden throughout the
play but at the end of Act Two to show her revenge it revealed her face, therefore shocking the
audience creating a terrific ending.
Contrasting to this, Keckwick had a heavy coat of a dark colour so protected him from the cold
weather and the marshes; his low cap also shows that he was hiding something about Jennet
Humphreys. This was shown when Keckwick collects Mr Kipps from Eel Marsh House in Act Two
of which frightened Mr Kipps making him unidentifiable. The effect on the audience is that they feel

Joy Luck Club Literary Analysis
In The Joy Luck Club, Amy Tan uses parables to show passing wisdom, maintaining
relationships, and passing on traditions. Tan shows how important parables are for the Chinese
culture and it teaches important life lessons that anyone can learn from. Tan depicts in her
stories how much the mother s struggled in China to get to America, so their kids could have a
better life in America. These parables that the parents are going to pass on to their kids teach
important life lessons that they have learned in China and teaching it to them here in America.
The parables all have one thing in common and that they all teach lessons that the parents have
learned in China and brought it with them to pass onto their kids so they won t make the same
mistake like them. The moms in The Joy Luck Club all want different for their daughters and
don t want them to be oppressed like they were back in China. In The Joy Luck Club, Amy Tan
uses parables to pass on knowledge and lessons learned back in China to their daughters so they
won t make or have the same problems they had in China. Through the use of the second parable,
Tan shows how they use parables to teach kids to respect their parents and listen to them. Tan
explains in the parable how this daughter didn t listen to her mother and when the daughter got
on her bicycle and hurried away she fell immediately onto the ground. This respect of the parents
or elders was ingrained in kids in China, but in America it s a lot different. The moms in The Joy
Luck Club use The Twenty Six Malignant Gates to teach and respect their daughters so they
would listen to them like how they would of in China. My mother had a superstition about
certain dangers that can harm children, so she used The Twenty Six Malignant Gates so her
daughter won t do harmful things (Tan 124). Anmei used the Twenty Six Malignant Gates to
discipline her daughter Rose so she would stay out of trouble and so she would listen to her
mother. Anmei s use of the Twenty Six Malignant Gates discipline her daughter is a good idea
because Rose can t read Chinese she has to listen and believe what her mother is telling her. Tan
shows this parable because it teaches life

Okonkwo s Death In Things Fall Apart
In the concluding moments of the novel, Things Fall Apart , by Chinua Achebe, the main
protagonist woefully ends his life. In any genre of novel, deaths of characters can be used to help
highlight the ideas of meaning that the author is trying to portray to the reader. In Things Fall Apart
, Achebe uses the death of Okonkwoto reveal what overwhelming amounts of fear can do to
someone. Throughout the book Okonkwo shows how much his fear controls him man times.
One example of where his fear is shown is through his parenting. Okonkwo treated his son

of Nwoye becoming like Okonkwo s father, terrified Okonkwo. He was scared for his reputation.

Causes And Consequences Of The War Of 1812
The war of 1812 was also known as the second War of Independence , for some it may even be
known as the Forgotten War . It was an important conflict with long lasting consequences,
especially for the Native Americans in North America. The main cause of the war was America s
desire to expand its territory (history.com war of 1812). Just like everything else in America s
history people were greedy and always wanted more. More land equals more workers which
equals more money. Native Americans did not own land, land was known Mother Earth, everyone
shared all she had to offer, nothing was taken for granted, nothing was wasted, everything had its
own importance. When new settlers came to the Americas they were looking for new land, new
territory for their settlements. Some did not know that the land already had settlers; Natives. Think
of when you have visitors at your home, are you welcoming? Most of the time you are. That is
exactly how the natives were with these new settlers. Though they did not speak the same language
the natives offered a helping hand, just to get spit on in return. Not literally, but figuratively, the
new settlers seen natives as people that could be changed. So that s what they did, they tried to
assimilate the Indians teaching them the white man s ways. Many Indians did not know what was
happening at the time and others caught on causing many uproars. The War of 1812 is just another

Dr. Lamp s Case For Tenure And Promotion
On September 21, 2015 the Budget and Personnel Committee for the Department of English met to
review Assistant Professor Kathleen Lamp s case for promotion to Associate Professor with tenure.
The Committee voted 6 to 0 in favor of recommending Professor Lamp for tenure and promotion.
Dr. Lamp is a scholar of rhetorical theory, practice, and education and joined the English
department in fall semester 2010. Her published scholarship since arriving at ASU includes one
book, The Rhetoric of Augustan Rome (2013, University of South Carolina Press), two refereed
articles in major peer reviewed journals, and two book reviews. She also has one 3,000 word
contribution in a refereed conference proceeding, which has been submitted for publication ... Show

Lamp characterizes her scholarship as challenging the narrow definitions of rhetoric in the early
Roman Empire as well as narratives of its retreat from political life after the Roman republic.
She describes her book as transdisciplinary in nature, combining research from rhetorical theory,
visual studies, art history, archaeology, and classics to explore the impact of non traditional
rhetorical media on practices of citizenship during the reign of Augustus. Lamp s other
publications are closely aligned with the book s theme and serve to reach scholars of history, the
classics and art history. She presents evidence of a clear plan moving forward as well as ongoing
progress toward her next
book project, which is a study of public memory and ideal citizenship that examines (neo)classical
influences from ancient Rome on U.S. culture through the construction of monuments and
memorials. Her dossier speaks unequivocally to her impressive scholarship and growing positive
reputation in the field of classical rhetoric.
It is clear from all seven external letters that Dr. Lamp is engaging important issues in her field,
both thematically and methodologically. Paraphrasing, C6/L2 writes that Lamp is producing
important, significant scholarship that challenges and persuasively revises long established views
of some of the discipline s most basic assumptions regarding the history of rhetoric and the
definition of rhetoric itself. The cornerstone of Dr.

Essay On Homecoming Experience
People all over America will be celebrating our veterans for their service on November 11th.
There will be numerous celebrations and thanks for the people who fought for our freedom, but
often we forget what it was like coming home from a war. Coming back from the war and
reassimilating into society can often times be just as challenging as fighting the war itself. There
are so many factors that affect one s homecoming experience, such as the supportiveness of the
community or the trauma caused by the war. Everybody is different which means everybody s
experiences are going to differ. Leaving your home is definitely a difficult feat, and coming back is
possibly even harder for some veterans. In an interview with Vietnam war veteran, Karl Marlantes,
some important points are brought up about the psychological effects war has on a veteran, but
also some of the external factors that affect someone s ability to cope with their actions. He tell s
in his own words what it s like to come home from war and try to repress all of your guilt and
grief. He describes the guilt as a wound of the soul and makes a point of how soldiers experience
mental health issues as well as physical wounds. To help make this homecoming for veterans
better, we should create a place for veterans to go to talk about what happened so they can release
their grief and move on, instead of letting it sit untouched until it comes to conscience and makes
life a nightmare. Another goal for him is to give

The Theory Of International Politics
Theory of international politics is a Classic because it gives a chance to recognise not just the
international system but also history and ethos in context. Gives individuals a chance to think
outside the box and perhaps understand the international state much clearer. Waltz s notes that
Polarity is the only important change in system structure that we can expect under anarchy. Waltz
s theory of international politics is proven to be an unusual powerful volume, creating new
discussions and giving new incentive to existing ones. For example, the book commenced a
debate over whether state s concerns over relative gains impeded cooperation and added
momentum to the question of whether bipolar or multipolar international systems were more war
prone (Griffiths, 2007). However, a flaw is that his theory is too reliant on material understanding
of power and misses the social. On the other hand, regardless of his dependency on material
understanding, his theory is still practical and helps to understand issues that have occurred from a
neo realist perspective. To the extent that structural realism sought to explain the cold war by
referring to bipolarity , Waltz s argued that the cold war was firmly rooted in the structure of post
war international politics and will last if that structure endures (Waltz, 1989). A downfall of waltz s
ideology is that it s difficult to settle with the decline in interstate war and the increase in
multilateral co operation among state. Moreover

Sexual orientation mentions to a persistent pattern of expressive, passionate and or sexual

terms of three groups: heterosexual (with magnetisms to memberships of the other gender), gay or

Human Nature in Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now Essay
Human Nature in Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now
In Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness and Francis Ford Coppola s Apocalypse Now the reader

society. When moving up the river and farther away from civilization, the evil side begins to

river where the solitude from society and the destruction of war tamper with human nature.
During the opening scene, Willard is shown in despair, going from America to war and back
was too much for him to handle. He moved back to Saigon hoping to find himself. However he
does not know his own true self until he discovers Colonel Kurtz s true nature. Throughout the
movie, new characters are introduced showing differences in human nature due to the effects of
war. For instance the helicopter commander no longer cares for human life anymore; he finds it
all right to surf while his men are being killed. He is hardened by the war, meaning he shows no
fear. Contrary to that the Chef lives in almost constant fear. With the river and surroundings
becoming more and more uncivilized with every mile, he grows more and more afraid. Afraid
for his life, afraid he should have joined the navy. Most human beings or at least Americans
believe that the most technologically advanced races are the best. Yet a patrol boat armed to the
teeth can not do anything against a few villagers with spears and arrows. When the chief of the
boat dies from a spear, Captain Willard s eyes are opened to the horror he finds himself trapped in.

The Role Of The Social Worker
A dignified life is the undeniable right to all members of a community. Regrettably, their is a
sizable population of individuals who have difficulty accessing resources that could potentially
enhance their opportunity for self determination. Basic human needs and services catalyze dignity
and self determination. The role of the social worker is quintessential in connecting individuals in
need with helpful and life altering resources. Social workers have the difficult task of developing
institutional knowledge of resources and services associated with their field. The task is further
compounded with ever changing institutional policies. However, resource allocation is just a one
part of the social workprofession. Every client has a distinctive need and set of circumstances which
require careful inspection. Social workers engage in dynamic problem solving and individual

Coping With Loss, Mechanisms Of The Human Mind
Coping with Loss; Mechanisms of the Human Mind When one loses someone or something
valuable to them, the grief can be intense. But what happens when what they lose is actually a
piece of them? Novels depicting a witness account of The Holocaust (1941 1945) paint a picture of
the violence and moral anguish, which is accompanied by a loss to the protagonist. The plot shows
a process of events that ultimately leads to death and devastation. Both protagonists in Elie Wiesels
Night and Wladyslaw Szpilman s The Pianist gradually fall into the abyss of inhumane behaviour.
Post Holocaust, they embark on a new life free from social restraints and become either unmindful
or compliant to the losses they faced on their journey. Elie and Wladyslaw... Show more content on

From then on, I had no other name (Wiesel 42). The minorities in the concentration camps are no
longer individuals, but are dehumanized into empty shells of themselves. The longer they remain in
camps, the more they are reduced to a mere physical presence, losing their selves to their self
preservation instinct, and eventually becoming just hungry, nearly dead bodies. Counting the days
until his liberation, Elie thought [He] was nothing but a body. Perhaps even less: a famished
stomach. The stomach alone was measuring time (Wiesel 52). The loss of the right to be an
individual confuses Elie, making him question whether he is too weak to survive, giving readers
their first glimpse into his change in personality. From a loyal son who fought his father s battles,
he becomes the betrayer, allowing his father to be killed right in front of his eyes. This change in
personality is derived from a Level 3 Defense Mechanism of the human mind known as
Dissociation. This Defence Mechanism involves the victim modifying their own identity to
avoid the suffering accompanied by a traumatic situation. Elie alters his characteristics to be
better suited for survival, as seen in how he sacrificed his father, something he claimed he would
never do, perhaps as a way of providing a reason for this sudden change in personality. By
dissociating himself to overcome trauma, Elie loses his sense of his identity and what he was
raised to believe in. Loss is understood as a natural part of

A Comparison Of Superman And Wonder Woman
I am enjoying this discussion about Wonder Woman, even though I am not a huge fan of DC
Comics or superhero films. However, I love Superman and Wonder Woman films and television
series from the 80 s. Remember the Superman movies starring Christopher Reeves and the
Wonder Woman television series from the 80s (I grew up in the 80s)? Since we are speaking
about films based on classic childhood favorites, I have another example to add: Goonies. A
group of five boys (the Goonies) live in a town scheduled for demolition but this clique refuses to
give up without a fight. When these Goonies discover One eyed Willie s hidden treasure map they
depart from their normal life to hunt his treasure in hopes of being able to save their parent s
homes. Now,

The Renaissance And Ending With Rococo Styles Of Art
Beginning with the Renaissance and ending with Rococo styles of art, artistry has shifting styles
between the 14th and late 18th century. Each period represents a new and unique way of
representing art, and a few works of art perfectly explain the values between these periods. Values
such as how the body looks and moves, to dramatic scenes that spark interest or thought, and finally
the indulgence of pleasure, shedding off the worries of life in aristocracy.
The Renaissance was the first period that we met with after the Dark Ages. This cultivated a time
in art where the artist questioned more about the human body but staying true to the religious
bonds that dictated art just an age ago. Subjects like muscle tone, scenery, and linear perspective
were used during this time, and the human body was celebrated as something beautiful. Here we
saw more use of Contrapposto, which was almost a standard by this time, and sculptures felt as if
they were flowing and able to move when you walked by them.
To more visually analyze the Renaissance and it s style, we can take a look at Michaelangelo s
David, which displays the human body in it s finest form. Here, it shows David preparing for the
battle with Goliath. He s pondering and, thanks to scientists dissecting the human body during this
time, his muscles are in near perfect positions. We can see more realism during this time, and by
that I mean how the body actually functions and moves rather than a stiff, perfectly

The Electoral College Versus a Direct Election System
The Electoral College Versus a Direct Election System
The Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for President and Vice
President...they shall name in their ballots the person voted for as President and in distinct ballots
the person voted for as Vice President (Findlaw.com). The Twelfth Amendment set forth the rules
and regulations for which the Office of President shall be determined. The founding fathers, in the
second constitutional convention, laid the grounds on which setup what would be the Electoral
College.
Adoption of the Electoral College plan came late in the Convention, which had previously adopted

The larger states would no longer control the population lead as their fellow states.
Registration and supervision of a national election would be expensive and very time consuming.
In the 1800s, ballot machines were not available to determine the votes on a wide scale usage. So,
ballots had to be hand counted. And where an election would rest in counting every ballot, it would
very time consuming. And who would be in place to count these votes? Enslaved blacks would
almost certainly favor the candidate who promoted freedom. The issue of bribery of vote counters
was brought up in the convention, and any talk of a corrupt government was quickly hushed.
With an Electoral College in place and guaranteed by our Twelfth Amendment, why should we
replace a system that up until now, caused no problems? Why do critics continue to bombard the
Electoral College with complaints of it being obsolete? Why do the majority of the population see
it as an unnecessary barrier to true democracy (Kuroda)?
On September 4th, 1787, an appointed committee proposed a new method for electing the
president, which took account of the many points made earlier in the five month session. It
created the Electoral College and assigned the states a number of electors equal to their House
and Senator representation they had in Congress. Presidents were to serve 4 year terms and to be
eligible for re election. Because a 200 year old system still exists today, opponents of the

The Collapse Of Rome In The Third Century
New problems arose after Marcus Aurelius died in a.d.180. Rome Empire came near collapse in
the third century. Following a series of civil wars, the military government under the Severan
rulers restored order. After the Severan rulers restored order there was more disorder from 235
to 284 almost 50 years. Rome was occupied by whoever had the military strength to invade
Rome. The Rome Empire was attack by series of invasions. In the east, the Sassanid Persians
made inroads into Rome territory. Germanic tribes poured into Spain, Balkans, and Gaul. In the
third century all the invasions, civil wars, and plague almost caused an economic collapse. Both
military and the economy affected by an epidemic disease because of this they was a decline in
trade and small industry. The farm production declined as crops were ravaged by invaders or the
defending Roman army. The armies were needed so they pay more soldiers. The state had to hire

Case Study (Supervalu)
1.Evaluate Supervalu s new professional development program. What do you like/dislike about it?
Will it appeal to college recruits? Why or why not?
Supervalu designed a program named Professional Development Program (PDP) because Paul
Cimmerer wanted to attract high potential college graduates who want to make careers in
distribution, category management, retail, and corporate activities. The reason for the attraction is
because upper management believed that the company lacked experience workers for entry level
jobs within the core business units. The long term goal for the company is to find a talented

Another challenge that PDP might face in the future is that there are too many risks attached to
the program. An issue is that the PDP might face a challenge from its current employees because
there is nothing in it for them. The opportunity of career development and growth are directed
towards graduates in which might upset current employees as they feel neglected. Another
challenge is that the program isolates people with a GPA of 3 or higher. There should be other
ways to seek out talent. A potential challenge that the company could run into is that the individual
invested into does not stay with the company or later down the road is not the ideal candidate for
the company. The company runs the risk of losing that trainee after investing so much into them.
Another challenge is that the program branches across a widespread that if one single entity does
not cooperate, it could jeopardize the program. An example would be the person who is doing the
coaching because if that person does not do an adequate job then the company runs the risk of

Physics Behind Catapults
Have you ever wondered how a catapult works? We had to ask just that question when we were
assigned a project. Where we had to create a functional catapult and graph the arc of the object shot
from the catapult we created. In this essay I will discuss the history and mathematical concepts
behind catapults. I will also include some fun facts.
There are many mathematical concepts behind a catapult. One big mathematical concept behind a
catapult is a parabola. A parabola is defined as a symmetrical open plane curve formed by the
intersection of a cone with a plane parallel to its side. The path of a projectile under the influence
of gravity ideally follows a curve of this shape. A parabola is the shape of the arc made by the
object launched. Sense the arc is a parabola not only will the curve of the object going up be same
as it going down but, the arc can also be graphed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It depends on the angle it is shot at because if the angle to low or high it will have a very short
range. It depends on force because the more force applied to shoot it the farther it will go and
the less force you apply the less range you will have. Another thing that will affect the range of
our catapult is the tightness of the rubber bands. If they are to tight won t allow the catapult to
be pulled back and spring forward. If the rubber bands are too loose they won t hold it together and
the catapult won t be able to spring back like it s supposed to. The angle also plays a crucial role in
the range of a catapult. If the catapult is at to high of an angle it will shoot directly at the ground.
If it is at to low of an angle it will shoot directly up into to the air. Both things will cause a drastic

Neuroscience Of The Nervous System
Vigen Karchyan
Neuroscience Neuroscience, commonly referred to as Neural Science, is the study of the way the
nervous system develops, how it is structured and the functions of it. Scientists put emphasis on the
brain and the impact it has on behavior and cognitive functions. These scientists approach a closer
look on the reactions the nervous system has when humans have neurological, psychiatric and
neurodevelopmental disorders. The entire concept of neuroscience is addressed as a subdivision of
biology. It is applied to chemistry, cognitive science, engineering, mathematics, linguistics and
more. Scientists say that neuroscience is identical as neurobiology but there is a difference between
the two conceptions. Neurobiology focuses mainly on the biology of the nervous system and
neuroscience emphasizes on any portion of the nervous system. Neuroscientists have various fields
of study that include cellular, functional, computational and medical aspects of the nervous system.
The history of neuroscience dates back and the Ancient Egyptians believed that intelligence rooted
from the heart. Throughout the process of mummification, they detached the brain but left the heart
inside of the body. Herodotus, a Greek historian that lived up until 425BC, claimed the most
perfect practice is to extract as much of the brain as possible with an iron hook, and what the hook
cannot reach is mixed with drugs. There were scripts focused on the brain that were first found in
1700BC in

Someone has to lead in a waltz, which highlights the father s control over the small boy. It isn t
because the boy is being led, but instead the way the father is leading is what makes the dance
not easy. Roethke uses the verb waltz to impose a sense of joy to the poem, because on literal level
the waltz should be easy and smooth, but for the boy and his father it isn t because apparently, their
lives together aren t easy. Continuing the tone of the first stanza, in the second stanza of the poem
the word romped makes their waltz sound carefree, but they romped until the pans/ Slid from the

even the boys mother could not tolerate. Again with something that sounds as care free as dancing
with your father Roethke implies an undertone of disturbance and violence that is inevitably taking
a toll on their family and home life. Likewise in the third stanza the speaker mentions that the hand
that held his wrist was battered on one knuckle. Undoubtedly, a hand holding a wrist is more
aggressive and dominant than just a hand holding a hand like in a typical waltz, which is suppose
to a smooth and easy glide. The fathers hand holding the speakers wrist shows both the difference in
the size of their hands and that the speaker waltzes unwillingly. The fact that Roethke chooses the

Women s Experience Of Postnatal Care
Statistics and data have shown that women are less satisfied with the care they receive post natal
compared to the care they receive during antenatal and throughout labour including those women
who receive caseload midwifery care (Forster et al., 2016). Thus, this assignment will focus on
some aspects of care that influence a women s experience of postnatalcare and changes that can be

addition, there will be a discussion about the role of the midwife in providing postnatal care that
will be more satisfying for women. The first part of this essay will discuss how women feel on the

be a discussion about the physical environment of the postnatal ward and lastly, will be a discussion
about the current length of stay in the hospital and how it may be affecting the women.

Online Advertising And The Internet
The internet has made everything simple especially in business. The world has changed to
become a global village where all people can access. They do that to check on what is new in the
market or the current trends. Marketers and advertisers have seen an opportunity in the fact that
people are always on the internet. They market their products on the internet by posting them on
different websites for people to be able to see them. That type of advertisingthat takes place on the
internet is referred to as online marketing or online advertising or internet advertising. It included
email marketing, social media marketing, display advertising, search engine marketing (SEM),
and mobile advertising. This type of marketing involves a publisher who posts the

commonly used websites, like the social media websites where they post their advertisement for
the millions of people in social media to see them. They usually appear in the screen making it
inevitable for a person to view it (Webb, 2007). Online advertisements have been made possible

Waste Reduction, Or Waste Prevention

Technology Sector Report
Waste reduction, or waste prevention, is critical in today s growing world population. In a
society with so many people, and an ever growing population, resources need to be saved and
used sparingly. Waste reduction is a method of managing the waste created and how it is disposed
of. Waste reduction means that less waste is produced, which equals less waste removal costs, and
helps keep the environment clean. Waste reduction can be achieved through the using of less plastic
and other similar materials that get thrown into landfills, and by using every day, reusable objects,
such as water bottles and silverware, instead of plastic bottles and plastic utensils. ... Show more

Granulators are similar to grinders, but they take already reduced pieces of material and make the
pieces even smaller, allowing recycling these once large pieces of wood to be a lot easier. A more
unique method is to use a compactor which compresses waste so that the waste takes up a smaller
area, and therefore, less space. Compactors are used at recycling centers and junkyards to reduce
the area that solid waste takes up.
The idea of waste reduction began long before modern machines were put to use. In 1908, A.A.
Low created the first paper shredder: the Waste Paper Receptacle but was never put to
commercial manufacturing because he never had the incentive to do so. The first paper shredder
put to sale actually came in 1936, when German Adolf Ehinger produced the first commercial
paper shredder. In 1921, the world s first geothermal power plant was built in California. In 1965,
the first federal solid waste management law, the Solid Waste Disposal Act, was authorized by
Congress. On April 22, 1970, the U.S. celebrated the first annual Earth Day. Later that year, the
United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was created. In 1972, Washington state
started the first buy back recycling center, accepting newspapers, beer bottles, and aluminum cans.
This buy back recycling center led to the ones that would give people money for their recyclable
products, giving people an incentive to recycle more often. The U.S.

The Republic of Zimbabwe
The Republic of Zimbabwe, formerly known as Southern Rhodesia under British colonial rule,
obtained independence in February of 1980 through free parliamentary elections, formally
recognizing the country of Zimbabwe as an independent sovereign state. The orchestrators of the
revolutionary rebellion of Black Zimbabweans against minority rule were the two major African
nationalist groups: Zimbabwean African National Union (ZANU), lead by Robert Mugabe, and
Joshua Nkomo s ZimbabweAfrican People s Union (ZAPU), both political organizations with the
goal of African independence and each with a military wing to assist in accomplishing the goal of
independence. The ZANU and ZAPU military wings unified as the Patriotic Front (PF) in 1974 to
wage a guerilla war for independence against the British colonial powers. The revolution sought not
only majority rule opposing the colonial minority rule of the white Rhodesians and importantly
seeking reconciliation, which inspired aspirations throughout Southern Africa as a model of

Myth Of The Huichol Indians
Introduction The Huichol Indians are an indigenous group that lives in the Sierra Madre Mountains
of northwestern Mexico (Woolcott). The Huichol religion is an animistic religion. According to Dr.
Pamela Lindell, animistic religions are religions that believe that all of nature humans, animals,
plants, rocks, the ocean, etc. is animated by spirits and souls ( Professor s Notes 2 3). To better
understand the HuicholIndians and their religion, this paper examines Huichol myth, symbolism,
rituals, religious specialists, and deities from various anthropological perspectives.
Myth
One of the most important myths of the Huichols Indians is about the creation of the world. These
types of myths are categorized as origin myths which are typically the most sacred of a culture s
myths and provide the foundation upon which other myths are built (Lindell Professor s Notes 4 2).
The article Journey of Grandmother Rain by Jack Eidt tells the story about the first humans, the
creation of the land, and the creation of the sun. From a structuralist perspective, the binary
opposition that shapes the worldview of the Huichol Indians is apparent in this origin myth.
According to Eidt, in the Huichol origin myth the first human, named Watacame, and his black
female dog, Tziku Mayuri, had to withstand five days of monsoons, wind, waves, flooding and
storming (Eidt). After Watacame had successfully survived the storm, the Goddess Takutzi Nakawe

These causes specifically are completely biochemical, occurring within the chemical processes that
develop the fetus. A single genedefect goes hand in hand with inheritance. All genes are inherited
therefore so are bad genes; a single gene defect is that, a gene for a disease is inherited and
manifests as a birth defect. Then, there s chromosomal abnormalities. Chromosomes are those
structures within our cells that contain genes. If an abnormality occurs (such as a replacement, of
one piece of the gene for another) this will also results in a birth defect within the fetus.
Noonan Syndrome is the result of a chromosomal abnormality. This specific type of abnormality
can only be detected by deep molecular testing of the parents and the offspring who has been
affected by Noonan syndrome. Detection then becomes a tricky process as the signs and
symptoms of the defect can be misdiagnosed as their individual appearances. A short stature can
be seen as just a physical abnormality, the same for eye spacing and other physically noticeable
attributes. The heart diseases can be seen as completely separate problems as well. For this reason
cases of Noonan syndrome can persist into a person s adult life completely undiagnosed. Detection
therefore relies on the parents being genetically tested before ever conceiving.
Noonan syndrome through inheritance is of an autosomal dominant pattern. That

Text Getting to Yes by Roger Fisher and William Ury
YES is the most powerful word in the English language. Even though it is the most powerful word,
that doesn t always mean it is the answer. Finding the answer to any question, conflict, argument
etc. requires negotiating. To negotiate means to confer with another or others in order to come to
terms or reach an agreement. The basic idea of it seems pretty simple, and in fact negotiating is
something the majority of us do on a daily basis either at work, at home, anywhere. In the text

negotiation. They also discuss three common obstacles to negotiation and how to overcome them.

Further discussing the four principles in my opinion, starting with 1) separating the people from
the problem, I can say for me that it is sometimes difficult to realize you may be attached to a side s
position emotionally and not notice or recognize the fact that it may hinder your thought and
decision on the conflict.
Discussing the focus on interests principle I can see a somewhat complicated broad example of
how I could take the side of for the war in Iraq while the opposing side is for peace and no war.
No matter what each parties position is on the war, both sides I m sure have one big interest in
common: Peace. Getting into the discussion of sometimes in order to have peace there has to be
war, is not what my report is about but it was just the best example I could spit out about common
interests in opposing sides.
When relating the third principle of generating options to my personal experiences, I can t really
think of a specific example to explain. My strong opinion however is that to me it s obvious that
the more creative options you have in a conflict, the more solutions there may be to be found. I
would rather have a few options when coming to a consensus rather than either this or that way
approach.
The best example I can think of that I know I ve done at some point in my lifetime for objective
criteria is one I m sure everyone has encountered also. Remember the if you

Examples Of Determination In Where The Red Fern Grows
Colin Powell once said, A dream doesn t become reality through magic; it takes sweat,
determination and hard work. A character is revealed through hard work and most importantly,
determination. Determination is the key to a goal is what is shown throughout the book, Where
the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls. Billy (the main character) is a determined to reach all
goals that will take hard work, but a lot of determination. Determination is shown through all
chapters. One time Billy shows determination is on paged 18 19 in the first few chapters. Billy s
character was determined to earn money to get two coonhounds when his father refused to get him
the dogs. Billy had to earn $50 dollars in order for him to get the two coonhounds that were... Show

On pages 131 133, Billy was determined to save Little Ann and Old Dan from the water. Little
Ann went into the water to save Old Dan from the water. Little Ann was lucky to save Old Dan
from the water but was luckless to save herself. Billy couldn t hear Little Ann in the water, but
could hear Old Dan in the large sycamore that had fallen in the river. His determination was
brought on by fear of his dogs, Little Ann and Old Dan. Billy came as fast as he could and
turned on his lanter to see better. If she gets down in that old tree top, she ll drown. is what billy
said to rubin while they were panicking about Little Ann when she was in trouble in the water.
Little Ann made it out fairly safe. She saw the ghost coon in the distance. Little Ann went chasing
after the ghost coon. The coon got his name by disappearing out of nowhere when when he gets
tired. Billy was determined to catch the ghost coon, and this might be his chance. He saw that
Little Ann was 15 feet behind the ghost coon and Old Dan was 25 yards behind Little Ann. Billy
was very determined that he thought that this would be the time to whoop his dogs. They finally
caught the ghost coon! This was a very big goal that took hard work and determination for not only
the dogs, but Billy too. Billy trained them and motivated them to catch the ghost

Women s Rights During The Progressive Era
The Progressive Era was a period of time between the late 1800s and the early 1900s when the
United States sought ideas that gave people equality. Prior to the Progressive Era, women and
immigrants were not allowed to vote and not given the opportunity to be employed in many jobs.
Also, children were forced to work in factories and there was no conservation of the Earth s
resources. During the Progressive Era, rights of minorities, conservation of natural resources,
cleanliness in food gained improvements.
Rights of children, immigrants, and women were greatly improved during the Progressive Era.
Before, children had to work in factories at very young ages and risked harming themselves, but
with the Keating Owens Act, it limited the amount of labor a child could do. Also, many social
groups, such as African Americans, Asians and Catholics, were discriminated, but progressives
fought to end segregation. Women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beginning in 1905, Roosevelt started his work in conserving the environment by making the United
States Forest Service and National Parks. In 1908, he called together a meeting, The National
Conservation Conference. Roosevelt also declared many pieces of land historic or monuments to
conserve them. With his help, we still have many parks and forests that we can enjoy today.
Before the Progressive Era, many times food and water was unsafe and unclean. In many cases,
medicines were not labelled, so they were not always trustworthy and effective. In 1906, the Pure
Food and Drug Act passed stating that items could not be sold if they were mislabeled and
manufacturers must have the ingredients list on the item. Another act passed was the Meat
Inspection Act which was similar to the previous act stating the item must be labelled correctly and
processed in clean environments. Because of these acts, we can trust ouyr food

Swot Analysis Of V-Shop
Executive Summary
V shop is an easy, simple, and user friendly application and online service which allows customers
to virtually try on clothing before purchasing. It requires the user to input their body dimensions,
such as upper chest, bust, waist, and height. From there, a virtual character with real life
proportions of the user is created. By partnering with large, international retailers, V shop can
combine retailers data and the data provided by the user to create a new and super convenient way
to shop online with the benefits of in store shopping. The focus of the paper is the B2B application,
so therefore the target market is international retailers. The aim is to go after the largest segment,
which would be international ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly, international retailers engage in business in multiple countries. Examples of international
retailers include Zara and H M.
Targeting
As shown in Table 1, the target market of V shop is international clothing retailers, such as Zara, H
M, and Gap Incorporated because they are more profitable companies that have more resources to
put toward technology advancements, such as V Shop. When the consumers are shopping for
clothing online, V Shop will help efficiently distribute retailer s products downstream by providing
a full understanding of the clothes what they want to purchase for potential customers.
The reason why the target market for V shop is international retailers, rather than local or
domestic, is because of the likelihood of them being interested in the software. Considering their
high revenues, the bet is on their ability to risk with launching the service on their websites. For
instance, the sales in the apparel sector in 2016 for H M reached $192.267 billion, for Gap Inc.
$15.516 billion, including their Old Navy brand (The H M Group, 2016).
According to an annual survey, which polled over 5,000 consumers, by comScore and UPS in
2016, 51% of customers purchased items on online, compared to 48% in 2015; the survey also
showed that 44% of smartphone users made buys through their devices, compared to

Michael Crichton s Sphere
Sphere, written by Michael Crichton, is a story set in the depths of the south pacific ocean. The
team underwater including Norman Johnson, are all mathematicians, scientist and psychologists.
The team was sent down by the navy to uncover the secrets of the spacecraft found there. At first it
is believed to be an unknown life form, but from the insides it looks like the things that lived there
were human. The doorways, chairs, food, and architecture seemed to be somewhat human.
Inside the ship, is what startled the crew. Inside the cockpit held by a grabbing claw was a
metallic sphere. The sphere happened to have carvings of some ancient language of some sort. The
crew desperately tried to open it for hours and finally gave up.

habitat. On the screen it said, I m here. Many of the scientist were knocked around, and some
were even ripped in half by the might of a large squid! The Squid was luminescent, and was
transparent. Only a few survived the first attack. On the screen Jerry said he had fun, and that he
wanted to do it again. Soon after Norman decided to learn the code to see if Harry had messed
up. Norman was fiddling with it and discovered he had made a mistake on the name, and that it
was Harry, not Jerry. Norman, scared, decided to to tell another crew member Elizabeth, who said
it wasn t Harry who was doing it,but himself. Scared Elizabeth locked Norman in a room with no
oxygen, or heat. Slowly dying Norman escapes, and grabs on to his suit. He then went to an
unbreachable room where he watched all the footage, watching Harry stepping in to the metallic
sphere, and Elizabeth enter nearly and hour later. Harry and Elizabeth were doing both the attacks.
Norman then got in to the sphere and left afterward with a power. To make things with his
imagination. The things Elizabeth and Harry were doing was using their imaginations to make

Heroin Overdose In The Community
The Kane County community is experiencing a growing use of heroin. For instance, in 2014, 22
deaths were contributed to heroin overdose; in 2015, 10 deaths were amounted due to overdosing.
While the numbers decreased, it is still a prominent issue in our community. In fact, every three
days, someone will die of a heroinoverdose in the suburbs.
In order to take steps to combat the issue, the user must be identified. Teens are the primary addicts
of heroin, accounting for nearly 80% of total addicts. The two strategies of primary and secondary
prevention would help the community combat the issue. The primary prevention focuses on
educational and awareness programs. With teenagers, it is important to focus on evidence based

Hotel California Short Story
Hotel California This should be fun, said Anderson Duvall as he drove his 1998 Ford F150 up
the snowy mountain road. A desolate, mountain range in Northern California, this was not how he
wanted to be spending his winter. It s only for two months, he tells himself as he sees the massive
brick prison. It is actually very beautiful, not like a prison in any way. He feels as if it wanted to
suck the soulout of him without remorse. What he had done wasn t that bad... was it? He found it
odd... after what he had done, how he had done it. He expected to go to the penitentiary or to be
sentenced to at least house arrest but no, he had been sent to work. He supposed this was worse
than the slammer in a way isolation, no human contact for the whole winter. Perhaps he would get
seasonal affective disorder, after all he wouldn t be seeing the sun for a whole two months. They
told him that they were trying out new disciplinary actions. He didn t buy that for a second.
Funny to think that only three months ago he began his sophomore year in college, engineering
major, being looked at by every major basketball team from here to Saint Louis. But that s gone
now. He figured he might as well forget about his past life, the accident changed it all. Why not try
to enjoy this sentence of pure insanity? They had known full well that he wasn t right in the head
after the fall that ended his basketball career. That s why he did what he did! He had wondered
since that day what sinister

Islam And Democracy Benazir Bhutto
Islam and Democracy: A Reflection
In the essay entitled Islam and Democracy , Benazir Bhutto argues that democracy and Islam are
not mutually exclusive ideas, but can coexist peacefully. She provides ample evidence to back up
this theory, citing both the Quran and the Constitution of Pakistan. Bhutto also provides the reader
with reasons she believes the two are so rarely seen together. She attributes this to both religious
extremism and the hypocritical policies of western countries; in particular, she points out the United
States talent for supporting freedom in other countries only when it directly benefits the U.S.
economy. To give the reader some background information, Bhutto displays an excerpt from the
preamble of Pakistan s Constitution. After defining Pakistan as an Islamic nation by stating that
sovereignty over the entire Universe belongs to Almighty Allah (qtd. in Jacobus 175), the
Constitution goes on to lay out some beliefs that coincide with those of Western democracy. The
document claims that the principles of democracy, freedom, equality, tolerance, and social justice...
shall be fully observed... (and the citizens of Pakistan) shall be guaranteed fundamental rights,
including... social, economic, and political justice, and freedom of thought, expression, belief;
faith, worship, and association (175). The preamble goes on to declare Pakistan (is)... a democratic
State based on Islamic principles of social justice... dedicated to the preservation of democracy (175
176). This passage presents the reader with the idea that, fundamentally, Islamic and democratic
values correspond. The Quran, Islam s foundation, also preaches many of the values familiar to
democracy. Bhutto references the Quran, stating (Allah)... created people of different views and
perspectives... and that diversity is good (178). She goes on to offer her interpretation of the holy
book, saying the message of the Quran empowers people with rights (democracy) (178). By using
multiple references, Bhutto establishes her knowledge of the governing body of Pakistan and the
Islamic religion. It is difficult for the reader to doubt her authority on the subject. This leads the
reader to a question: if the ideals of Islam and

Interracial Marriage In The 1950s
In 1958, an interracial couple living in Virginia was arrested after getting married. This started the
Supreme Court Case Loving v. Virginia, which took place in 1967. At that time, interracial marriage
was illegal in some states, one of those states being Virginia. In the 1950s, there was a lot of conflict
going on. For an example, the civil rights movement was growing, and the campaign against
communism revealed the hidden divisions in American society. A group of Americans that is
continually growing spoke out against inequality and injustice during the 1950s. African Americans
had been fighting against racial discrimination for centuries; during the 1950s, however, the
struggle against racism and segregation entered the mainstream of American life. (History, The
1950s) Although they weren t very common, they were definitely frowned upon by society. The
Loving v. VirginiaSupreme Court Case changed people s views on interracial marriage, helped it
become legal in every state, and shaped the American culture of today.
On June 2, 1958, Mildred Jeter, and Richard Loving got married in the District of Columbia and
then returned to Virginia shortly after. However, they were in violation of Virginia code 20 54,
which declared marriages between white and colored persons unlawful, as well as code 20 58,
which made it unlawful to go out of state to marry with the intention to return and cohabit as
husband and wife (Coleman, Loving v Virginia). Shortly after their marriage,

The Is Not Real And The World
In an ideal world, people would get along and live in peace. Unfortunately, this idea is not real
and the world is full of different forms of hate and discrimination. People are discriminated
against based on various things like race, religion, and sex. The Transgender community faces
one of the highest amounts of discrimination. This includes things like using a public restroom,
going to a doctor s office, insurance coverage, workplace, and traveling. First, utilizing public
restrooms are a major problem for transitioning individuals. In many states, like Kentucky, there
have been numerous attempts to pass laws that would force these individuals to use the
bathroom that reflects the gender on their birth certificate, which usually states the gender
assigned at birth. This is a form of discrimination due to the fact it would single out Trans
individuals making them targets. It can be assumed no one is going to bother a cisgender
individual only those, they suspect of being transgendered. For example, a transwoman who is
just a few months into her hormones and has not received Sexual Reassignment Surgery going
into the women s restroom in a Walmart is stopped by security and asked to prove her identity
using her Identification that still says male. She will then be charged for using the wrong
restroom and forced to go to the boys bathroom where she has an increased chance of being
involved in a hate crime or sexual assault. This action is like painting a sign on a person s

Although this may be the issue one could suggest that focusing on one gender would only count
as being sexist if not referring to the opposite sex. Originally, magazines were separated by
gender, a lady s magazine would contain something like home style tips, fashion, poetry, and lady
products while the men s magazine would contain politics, worldwide news, and men s fashion. In
today s magazines, both men and women are included within magazines. Even if society continued
to develop magazines meant for the two different genders there will never be equality. Ultimately,
if taking one side of the sexism spectrum only results in being called a sexist than the only solution
is, to be frank about both

Compare And Contrast Autumn And Winter
Both autumn and winter are special times of year.
Whether you call it autumn, fall, that one season after summer with the cool leaves, or anything
else, it has place in all our hearts. Winter may be disliked by some for the harsh weather and cold
atmosphere, but I love all winter has to offer.
I love late fall and early winter because of the holidays and the traditions they bring, the soft snow,
and winter break.
Holidays are times full of family, games, and celebration. They re designed to be fun and
memorable experiences to commemorate different concepts, and they certainly do it well.
October 31st is a time of the spooky and kooky, people of all ages decorating their homes, inside
and out. Anyone and everyone can decorate in any way they please. Whether cartoony, gory,
realistic or outlandish, there s a way to spice up your residence for everyone.
Pumpkin carving is long held practice, people once upon a time adorning gourds and turnips too.
With new technology, it s easy to utilize dry ice, projectors, and sound effects for maximum impact,
but it s always nice to return to simple homemade decorations.
When you think of Halloween, you probably think of trick or treating. Putting on a costume is a
thrill like no other! The classics will always have a special place in my heart, but there are
recourses to dress up as anything. Outlandish or understated, trick or treating holds a special place
in my heart.
Christmas time for Christmas cheer! Hear those sleigh bells

  • 2. Understanding The Trinity By Alister E.mcgrath Understanding the Trinity, by Alister E.McGrath Alister E. McGrath is a historian, biochemist, and Christian theologian from Ireland. A longtime professor at Oxford University, he now holds the Chair in Theology, ministry and education at the University of London. Among other of his writings are: Christianity s Dangerous Idea; In the Beginning; and The Twilight of Atheism. He is known for his work in historical theology, systematic theology and other writings on apologetics. Understanding the Trinity by Dr. McGrath is a book worth reading for those who want to learn more about the Trinity. Although having an apologetic formula, the message the author is trying to convey is not rooted on such. From the beginning, the author emphasizes the need for a personal encounter with God in order to validate its existence, something that can happen to anyone. McGrath further develops a number of models, which he assumes will help individuals create a conception of God. Using illustrations and models, the author tries to help the reader understand the limitations of fully understanding the nature of the divine, and the notion of Trinity. The book does not thoroughly explain the doctrine of the Trinity. What the author seems to convey is how to understand the Trinity itself, but the concept of it. The author explains that we as humans are incompatible to fully understand the reality of the trinity, which leaves us to look at the models that God has revealed to us in the Bible. If ... • 3. The Problem Of Weight Watchers Introduction and Problem Statement Weight Watchers has faced a number of issues in the past several years, many of which are highlighted in the case study for this assignment. The company was able to reach a financial high point earlier this decade in 2011 when it recorded a record breaking 1.8 billion in revenues. However, the company s finances have slowly dwindled ever since then, culminating in losses for seven straight quarters and low stock prices at the beginning of 2015. The core of the problems it was facing were relatively straightforward. The weight loss industry was changing, and Weight Watchers was having difficult changing along with it. Specifically, the company had troubles modernizing its business model to account for the digital age as represented by increasing online options for weight loss. This fact was compounded by the reality that there was greater competition, including that from organizations whose primary business was to capitalize on digital technology to attract customers. Technologies such as mobile devices, mobile applications, cloud computing, and social media had made considerable strides in the way that people were monitoring and attempting to lose weight. Weight Watchers, however, had had only marginal success using these technologies, and faced the undesirable situation in which its methods were becoming rapidly outdated. Financial Analysis: Vision/Mission The vision of Weight Watchers has always been fairly basic in nature. The company ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Toyota s Ethical Issue Of Toyota Hold on and pray. These were the last words spoken to a 911 operator on August 29, 2009, before the speaker, Christopher Lastrella, and 3 family members died in a horrific car accident in San Diego, California. The cause of the crash? The pedal of the rented Lexus E350 was stuck in full throttle, hurtling the car down the highway at speeds of up to 120 miles per hour, rendering the brakes completely useless. Those who passed away included two adult men, an adult woman, and a thirteen year old girl. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the floor mat had caused the accelerator to be caught and unable to be released. This incident would serve as the initial event that jumpstarted the public s concern for exactly what was going on with many Toyota models. In this paper, we will explore the ethical issue that was present in this case, whether or not Toyota acted ethically in its handling of the unintended acceleration of its vehicles. In order to do this, we will examine the situation in the light of the six step Hosmer s moral reasoning process. This will include, among other aspects, an examination of the event in consideration of shareholder, stakeholder, and virtue theory. In addition to that, the authors will apply the Total Integrity Management model to Toyota s actions in order to examine the moral integrity of the company as it pertains to trust. To conclude the paper, the authors will provide a normative statement regarding the actions of Toyota. To ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One author that who is famous for this was talks mostly about this was Maya Angelou. One short story that she had written that shows this is The Reunion . This work of literature is important for the readers to read because the people need to know in life that there are many obstacles to achieve in order to be successful. • 6. Pros And Cons Of Vice President Joe Biden This week, speculation about a potential presidential run from Vice President Joe Biden has increased. Maureen Dowd, a columnist for the New York Times wrote that the death of his son, Beau, has caused him to reconsider running in the 2016 election. She reports that he has been meeting with friends and family about becoming a candidate. Dowd never named any sources and the credibility of the report is not good. But it has ignited a debate this week over whether the 72 year old Vice President, will run, should run, and any possible question less certain the media can ask than Will Hillary win the Democratic nomination? Biden has not ruled out a third presidential campaign but has done nothing to indicate one either. Aides say many condolence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Biden is well liked by nearly everyone in Washington and his supportive role in the Obama administration has helped his stature. He s seen as an authentic and funny guy. While Biden makes a great Onion headline and uncle, his vulnerabilities make him not a great candidate for president. Biden s previous presidential campaigns have been terribly executed. In 1988, Biden plagiarized speeches from a British politician, destroying any chance of a successful campaign. Biden ran for president in 2008 as well, earning less than one percent of the vote in Iowa. Biden s foreign policy and national security record is slim at best. Obama s first secretary of defense wrote that he found him nearly always wrong on issues of foreign policy and national security. Despite recent drop in polling numbers, over 75 percent of Democrats support Hillary. She s garnered more endorsements at this stage of the election than any modern era. She s raised 68 million dollars. Biden doesn t have a significant advantage over Hillary in the general election. If voters are tired of Obama and Democrats, they re tired of Biden as well. His age is also a hinderance as well. While Americans aren t concerned about a 72 year old executing the duties of vice president, most don t know what a vice president does. Biden would be 74 on the date of his potential inauguration. Reagan was nearly 70. If for some reason Clinton bombs out of the race, Biden is the candidate with the best odds. But until then, the odds of him winning the Democratic nomination aren t good enough for him to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Gathering Place Shan Jackson Case Summary Shania Jackson, a woman of strong Christian faith wants to open a coffee shop named The Gathering Place, on the outskirts of Denver, Colorado. Shania has a lot of issues to consider before opening her first coffee house. I will take a look at Shania s case and come up with the best options for her to run a successful business using biblical scripture. First, I would tell Shania she should create her business organization by sole proprietorship. According to the U.S. Small Business Administration (n.d.), sole proprietorship is an unincorporated business owned and run by one individual with no distinction between the business and the own. Due to Shania s husband Marvin having no interest in contributing to the business, Shania would be the only owner. However, since Marvin is making a contribution to the capital to the business I would have them both pray about this decision. With a sole proprietorship, Shania would be entitled to all the business income, debts, losses and liabilities. Marvin would have to have trust and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the scripture, it is very clear that Shania needs to include Christian believers as business partners. Paul tells us, Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness (2 Corinthians 6:14, ESV) ? Forming a business partnership with a nonbeliever would be unwise because Christian practices will not be to importance of them. It is important when forming a business partnership that your partner acts in good faith and does what is best for the business. If the partner does something that is not a representation of the business mission, Shania will be liable. Shania wants The Gathering Place based off Religious and moral decisions. • 8. Barefoot Running Essay Footwear, accepted and denied Running for sport and recreation are perhaps as unique as the enthusiasts who first roused the market. Today, that market (running shoes) is changing. While the 21st century has propelled us into an age of hyper engineered performance gear and space age wicking fabrics; barefoot running has reinvented the marketplace, while simultaneously inspiring the new generation (Sprinkle 2004). The idea that running barefoot can be beneficial is a relatively liberal idea in a comparatively conservative culture (today s running community, particularly with respect to shoes). And, while the majority of research on the evolution of human locomotion has focused primarily on walking, the demand for a new perspective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Still, provided that running is generally considered to have played no major role in human evolution it s likely that the shoe industry (in combination with barefoot advocates) will, for some time, continue to influence popular opinion more than concrete, reliable research (Nature 2004). In an August 2004 issue of Runner s World magazine, Amby Burfoot quoted England s Bruce Tulloh: The only reason that more people don t run barefoot is that they re afraid to be unconventional. Burfoot adds, Famous runners had gone barefoot before us, of course. In 1960 Ethiopia s Abebe Bikila, won the first of his consecutive gold medals sans shoes in a world record 2:15:17. Though Burfoot and Tulloh s points are relevant, there is a heavy bias that remains, attached to their competitive running accolades. Amby Burfoot was himself a competitive U.S. Marathoner, whose peak years came in the late 60 s and early 70 s when he won the Boston Marathon (1957) and competed twice in the Olympic Marathon (1956, 1960). Likewise, when Bruce Tulloh and Abebe Bikila were breaking European records in the 50 s and 60 s; a greater number of runners were gunning for far lesser 5k and Marathon personal bests. Burfoot and other more renowned high caliber, well conditioned athletes are themselves exceptions to fundamental rules that govern mere mortals; And while competitive athletes do play a ... • 9. The Woman In Black Play Analysis The Fortune Theatre in London performed the production The Woman in Black, on the 9th June 2016. This phenomenal Gothic production explores the spine chilling story of a woman who had a child out of wed lock in the Victorian era. She wanted revenge for the tragic death of her young son Nathaniel. The solicitor Mr Kipps discovers the unknown secrets of Eel Marsh House when reading through Alice Drablow unwanted files. I found this production exhilarating and chilling. When entering the Victorian proscenium arch theatre, the air was icy with sudden breezes that made me feel uncomfortable and nervous. The seating layouts of 400 seats were steep and close in proxemics to make you feel crowed and claustrophobic. The use of yellow, dim house lights... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was presented effectively on how the Woman in Black was dressed. The use of a light weight black lace created the illusion that she was a ghostly figure gliding across the stage; the lace displays her wealth it also showed her to being delicate and sensitive women as she uses it as a mask her appearance. Her bonnet deems her to be seen as more vast, making her more powerful and threatening. This was shown in Act One, where Mr Kipps and Jerome visited the graveyard to mourn the death of Mrs Alice Drablow, where the ghostly figure of Jennet Humphreys was able to move across the stage at a swift pace. The use of prosthetic makeup was used to create her wasting face as she had Contracted a disease which caused her to begin to waste away. The flesh shrank from her bones, the colour drained from her. This was hidden throughout the play but at the end of Act Two to show her revenge it revealed her face, therefore shocking the audience creating a terrific ending. Contrasting to this, Keckwick had a heavy coat of a dark colour so protected him from the cold weather and the marshes; his low cap also shows that he was hiding something about Jennet Humphreys. This was shown when Keckwick collects Mr Kipps from Eel Marsh House in Act Two of which frightened Mr Kipps making him unidentifiable. The effect on the audience is that they feel ... • 10. Joy Luck Club Literary Analysis In The Joy Luck Club, Amy Tan uses parables to show passing wisdom, maintaining relationships, and passing on traditions. Tan shows how important parables are for the Chinese culture and it teaches important life lessons that anyone can learn from. Tan depicts in her stories how much the mother s struggled in China to get to America, so their kids could have a better life in America. These parables that the parents are going to pass on to their kids teach important life lessons that they have learned in China and teaching it to them here in America. The parables all have one thing in common and that they all teach lessons that the parents have learned in China and brought it with them to pass onto their kids so they won t make the same mistake like them. The moms in The Joy Luck Club all want different for their daughters and don t want them to be oppressed like they were back in China. In The Joy Luck Club, Amy Tan uses parables to pass on knowledge and lessons learned back in China to their daughters so they won t make or have the same problems they had in China. Through the use of the second parable, Tan shows how they use parables to teach kids to respect their parents and listen to them. Tan explains in the parable how this daughter didn t listen to her mother and when the daughter got on her bicycle and hurried away she fell immediately onto the ground. This respect of the parents or elders was ingrained in kids in China, but in America it s a lot different. The moms in The Joy Luck Club use The Twenty Six Malignant Gates to teach and respect their daughters so they would listen to them like how they would of in China. My mother had a superstition about certain dangers that can harm children, so she used The Twenty Six Malignant Gates so her daughter won t do harmful things (Tan 124). Anmei used the Twenty Six Malignant Gates to discipline her daughter Rose so she would stay out of trouble and so she would listen to her mother. Anmei s use of the Twenty Six Malignant Gates discipline her daughter is a good idea because Rose can t read Chinese she has to listen and believe what her mother is telling her. • 11. Okonkwo s Death In Things Fall Apart In the concluding moments of the novel, Things Fall Apart , by Chinua Achebe, the main protagonist woefully ends his life. In any genre of novel, deaths of characters can be used to help highlight the ideas of meaning that the author is trying to portray to the reader. In Things Fall Apart , Achebe uses the death of Okonkwoto reveal what overwhelming amounts of fear can do to someone. Throughout the book Okonkwo shows how much his fear controls him man times. • 12. Causes And Consequences Of The War Of 1812 The war of 1812 was also known as the second War of Independence , for some it may even be known as the Forgotten War . It was an important conflict with long lasting consequences, especially for the Native Americans in North America. The main cause of the war was America s desire to expand its territory (history.com war of 1812). Just like everything else in America s history people were greedy and always wanted more. More land equals more workers which equals more money. Native Americans did not own land, land was known Mother Earth, everyone shared all she had to offer, nothing was taken for granted, nothing was wasted, everything had its own importance. When new settlers came to the Americas they were looking for new land, new territory for their settlements. Some did not know that the land already had settlers; Natives. Think of when you have visitors at your home, are you welcoming? Most of the time you are. That is exactly how the natives were with these new settlers. Though they did not speak the same language the natives offered a helping hand, just to get spit on in return. Not literally, but figuratively, the new settlers seen natives as people that could be changed. So that s what they did, they tried to assimilate the Indians teaching them the white man s ways. Many Indians did not know what was happening at the time and others caught on causing many uproars. The War of 1812 is just another one of those uproars. Lamp characterizes her scholarship as challenging the narrow definitions of rhetoric in the early Roman Empire as well as narratives of its retreat from political life after the Roman republic. She describes her book as transdisciplinary in nature, combining research from rhetorical theory, visual studies, art history, archaeology, and classics to explore the impact of non traditional rhetorical media on practices of citizenship during the reign of Augustus. Lamp s other publications are closely aligned with the book s theme and serve to reach scholars of history, the classics and art history. She presents evidence of a clear plan moving forward as well as ongoing progress toward her next book project, which is a study of public memory and ideal citizenship that examines (neo)classical influences from ancient Rome on U.S. culture through the construction of monuments and memorials. Her dossier speaks unequivocally to her impressive scholarship and growing positive reputation in the field of classical rhetoric. It is clear from all seven external letters that Dr. Lamp is engaging important issues in her field, both thematically and methodologically. • 15. Essay On Homecoming Experience People all over America will be celebrating our veterans for their service on November 11th. There will be numerous celebrations and thanks for the people who fought for our freedom, but often we forget what it was like coming home from a war. Coming back from the war and reassimilating into society can often times be just as challenging as fighting the war itself. There are so many factors that affect one s homecoming experience, such as the supportiveness of the community or the trauma caused by the war. Everybody is different which means everybody s experiences are going to differ. Leaving your home is definitely a difficult feat, and coming back is possibly even harder for some veterans. In an interview with Vietnam war veteran, Karl Marlantes, some important points are brought up about the psychological effects war has on a veteran, but also some of the external factors that affect someone s ability to cope with their actions. He tell s in his own words what it s like to come home from war and try to repress all of your guilt and grief. He describes the guilt as a wound of the soul and makes a point of how soldiers experience mental health issues as well as physical wounds. To help make this homecoming for veterans better, we should create a place for veterans to go to talk about what happened so they can release their grief and move on, instead of letting it sit untouched until it comes to conscience and makes life a nightmare. • 16. The Theory Of International Politics Theory of international politics is a Classic because it gives a chance to recognise not just the international system but also history and ethos in context. Gives individuals a chance to think outside the box and perhaps understand the international state much clearer. Waltz s notes that Polarity is the only important change in system structure that we can expect under anarchy. Waltz s theory of international politics is proven to be an unusual powerful volume, creating new discussions and giving new incentive to existing ones. For example, the book commenced a debate over whether state s concerns over relative gains impeded cooperation and added momentum to the question of whether bipolar or multipolar international systems were more war prone (Griffiths, 2007). However, a flaw is that his theory is too reliant on material understanding of power and misses the social. On the other hand, regardless of his dependency on material understanding, his theory is still practical and helps to understand issues that have occurred from a neo realist perspective. To the extent that structural realism sought to explain the cold war by referring to bipolarity , Waltz s argued that the cold war was firmly rooted in the structure of post war international politics and will last if that structure endures (Waltz, 1989). A downfall of waltz s ideology is that it s difficult to settle with the decline in interstate war and the increase in multilateral co operation among state. Moreover ... Counting the days until his liberation, Elie thought [He] was nothing but a body. Perhaps even less: a famished stomach. The stomach alone was measuring time (Wiesel 52). Values such as how the body looks and moves, to dramatic scenes that spark interest or thought, and finally the indulgence of pleasure, shedding off the worries of life in aristocracy. The Renaissance was the first period that we met with after the Dark Ages. This cultivated a time in art where the artist questioned more about the human body but staying true to the religious bonds that dictated art just an age ago. Subjects like muscle tone, scenery, and linear perspective were used during this time, and the human body was celebrated as something beautiful. Here we saw more use of Contrapposto, which was almost a standard by this time, and sculptures felt as if they were flowing and able to move when you walked by them. To more visually analyze the Renaissance and it s style, we can take a look at Michaelangelo s David, which displays the human body in it s finest form. Here, it shows David preparing for the battle with Goliath. He s pondering and, thanks to scientists dissecting the human body during this time, his muscles are in near perfect positions. A lot of us have experienced first hand or known someone who has had the unfortunate experience of dealing with a close friend or family member who becomes abusive and aggressive because of drug or alcohol related problems. My Papa s waltzis a poem that tells the story of a young boydealing with an abusive father and a broken home. Despite the initial light atmosphere of the poem Theodore Roethke uses strong and powerful language to convey an underlined meaning to their dance. My Papa s Waltz is a poem of fear, all the more horrible because the boy is terrified and hurt by his father, even in play, yet he clings and hangs to him showing how strong... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Someone has to lead in a waltz, which highlights the father s control over the small boy. It isn t because the boy is being led, but instead the way the father is leading is what makes the dance not easy. Roethke uses the verb waltz to impose a sense of joy to the poem, because on literal level the waltz should be easy and smooth, but for the boy and his father it isn t because apparently, their lives together aren t easy. Continuing the tone of the first stanza, in the second stanza of the poem the word romped makes their waltz sound carefree, but they romped until the pans/ Slid from the kitchen shelf. Lines 5 and 6 show how their waltz is causing a violent disruption in their home that even the boys mother could not tolerate. Again with something that sounds as care free as dancing with your father Roethke implies an undertone of disturbance and violence that is inevitably taking a toll on their family and home life. Likewise in the third stanza the speaker mentions that the hand that held his wrist was battered on one knuckle. Undoubtedly, a hand holding a wrist is more aggressive and dominant than just a hand holding a hand like in a typical waltz, which is suppose to a smooth and easy glide. The fathers hand holding the speakers wrist shows both the difference in the size of their hands and that the speaker waltzes unwillingly. The fact that Roethke chooses the word battered ... Women s Experience Of Postnatal Care Statistics and data have shown that women are less satisfied with the care they receive post natal compared to the care they receive during antenatal and throughout labour including those women who receive caseload midwifery care (Forster et al., 2016). Thus, this assignment will focus on some aspects of care that influence a women s experience of postnatalcare and changes that can be implemented to improve women s satisfaction with the early post natal care they receive. In addition, there will be a discussion about the role of the midwife in providing postnatal care that will be more satisfying for women. The first part of this essay will discuss how women feel on the postnatal ward, focusing on interactions with their care providers and routine care. Following will be a discussion about the physical environment of the postnatal ward and lastly, will be a discussion about the current length of stay in the hospital and how it may be affecting the women. Women are much less satisfied with the care the care they received during their post partum period compared with the antenatal, labour and birth care they receive (Forster et al., 2016). They do that to check on what is new in the market or the current trends. Marketers and advertisers have seen an opportunity in the fact that people are always on the internet. They market their products on the internet by posting them on different websites for people to be able to see them. That type of advertisingthat takes place on the internet is referred to as online marketing or online advertising or internet advertising. It included email marketing, social media marketing, display advertising, search engine marketing (SEM), and mobile advertising. This type of marketing involves a publisher who posts the advertisement, with the permission of the owner of the website to post an advert for the viewers of the website to see. It occurs at a certain fee. Marketers have mastered the most commonly used websites, like the social media websites where they post their advertisement for the millions of people in social media to see them. They usually appear in the screen making it inevitable for a person to view it (Webb, 2007). Online advertisements have been made possible with the help of online advertising agencies. Waste Reduction, Or Waste Prevention Kyle Yue Walker Engineering 1 T.4, P.3/4 29 April 2015 Technology Sector Report Waste reduction, or waste prevention, is critical in today s growing world population. In a society with so many people, and an ever growing population, resources need to be saved and used sparingly. Waste reduction is a method of managing the waste created and how it is disposed of. Waste reduction means that less waste is produced, which equals less waste removal costs, and helps keep the environment clean. Waste reduction can be achieved through the using of less plastic and other similar materials that get thrown into landfills, and by using every day, reusable objects, such as water bottles and silverware, instead of plastic bottles and plastic utensils. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Granulators are similar to grinders, but they take already reduced pieces of material and make the pieces even smaller, allowing recycling these once large pieces of wood to be a lot easier. A more unique method is to use a compactor which compresses waste so that the waste takes up a smaller area, and therefore, less space. Compactors are used at recycling centers and junkyards to reduce the area that solid waste takes up. The idea of waste reduction began long before modern machines were put to use. In 1908, A.A. Low created the first paper shredder: the Waste Paper Receptacle but was never put to commercial manufacturing because he never had the incentive to do so. The first paper shredder put to sale actually came in 1936, when German Adolf Ehinger produced the first commercial paper shredder. In 1921, the world s first geothermal power plant was built in California. In 1965, the first federal solid waste management law, the Solid Waste Disposal Act, was authorized by Congress. On April 22, 1970, the U.S. celebrated the first annual Earth Day. Later that year, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was created. In 1972, Washington state started the first buy back recycling center, accepting newspapers, beer bottles, and aluminum cans. This buy back recycling center led to the ones that would give people money for their recyclable products, giving people an incentive to recycle more often. The U.S. ... The Republic of Zimbabwe The Republic of Zimbabwe, formerly known as Southern Rhodesia under British colonial rule, obtained independence in February of 1980 through free parliamentary elections, formally recognizing the country of Zimbabwe as an independent sovereign state. The orchestrators of the revolutionary rebellion of Black Zimbabweans against minority rule were the two major African nationalist groups: Zimbabwean African National Union (ZANU), lead by Robert Mugabe, and Joshua Nkomo s ZimbabweAfrican People s Union (ZAPU), both political organizations with the goal of African independence and each with a military wing to assist in accomplishing the goal of independence. The ZANU and ZAPU military wings unified as the Patriotic Front (PF) in 1974 to wage a guerilla war for independence against the British colonial powers. The revolution sought not only majority rule opposing the colonial minority rule of the white Rhodesians and importantly seeking reconciliation, which inspired aspirations throughout Southern Africa as a model of governance change post colonial era into forming a true democracy based on equal political and economic rights. The Huichol religion is an animistic religion. According to Dr. Pamela Lindell, animistic religions are religions that believe that all of nature humans, animals, plants, rocks, the ocean, etc. is animated by spirits and souls ( Professor s Notes 2 3). To better understand the HuicholIndians and their religion, this paper examines Huichol myth, symbolism, rituals, religious specialists, and deities from various anthropological perspectives. Myth One of the most important myths of the Huichols Indians is about the creation of the world. These types of myths are categorized as origin myths which are typically the most sacred of a culture s myths and provide the foundation upon which other myths are built (Lindell Professor s Notes 4 2). The article Journey of Grandmother Rain by Jack Eidt tells the story about the first humans, the creation of the land, and the creation of the sun. From a structuralist perspective, the binary opposition that shapes the worldview of the Huichol Indians is apparent in this origin myth. According to Eidt, in the Huichol origin myth the first human, named Watacame, and his black female dog, Tziku Mayuri, had to withstand five days of monsoons, wind, waves, flooding and storming (Eidt). These causes specifically are completely biochemical, occurring within the chemical processes that develop the fetus. A single genedefect goes hand in hand with inheritance. All genes are inherited therefore so are bad genes; a single gene defect is that, a gene for a disease is inherited and manifests as a birth defect. Then, there s chromosomal abnormalities. Chromosomes are those structures within our cells that contain genes. If an abnormality occurs (such as a replacement, of one piece of the gene for another) this will also results in a birth defect within the fetus. Noonan Syndrome is the result of a chromosomal abnormality. This specific type of abnormality can only be detected by deep molecular testing of the parents and the offspring who has been affected by Noonan syndrome. Detection then becomes a tricky process as the signs and symptoms of the defect can be misdiagnosed as their individual appearances. A short stature can be seen as just a physical abnormality, the same for eye spacing and other physically noticeable attributes. The heart diseases can be seen as completely separate problems as well. For this reason cases of Noonan syndrome can persist into a person s adult life completely undiagnosed. Detection therefore relies on the parents being genetically tested before ever conceiving. Noonan syndrome through inheritance is of an autosomal dominant pattern. That ... Finding the answer to any question, conflict, argument etc. requires negotiating. To negotiate means to confer with another or others in order to come to terms or reach an agreement. The basic idea of it seems pretty simple, and in fact negotiating is something the majority of us do on a daily basis either at work, at home, anywhere. Further discussing the four principles in my opinion, starting with 1) separating the people from the problem, I can say for me that it is sometimes difficult to realize you may be attached to a side s position emotionally and not notice or recognize the fact that it may hinder your thought and decision on the conflict. Discussing the focus on interests principle I can see a somewhat complicated broad example of how I could take the side of for the war in Iraq while the opposing side is for peace and no war. No matter what each parties position is on the war, both sides I m sure have one big interest in common: Peace. Getting into the discussion of sometimes in order to have peace there has to be war, is not what my report is about but it was just the best example I could spit out about common interests in opposing sides. When relating the third principle of generating options to my personal experiences, I can t really think of a specific example to explain. My strong opinion however is that to me it s obvious that the more creative options you have in a conflict, the more solutions there may be to be found. I would rather have a few options when coming to a consensus rather than either this or that way approach. Islam And Democracy Benazir Bhutto Islam and Democracy: A Reflection In the essay entitled Islam and Democracy , Benazir Bhutto argues that democracy and Islam are not mutually exclusive ideas, but can coexist peacefully. She provides ample evidence to back up this theory, citing both the Quran and the Constitution of Pakistan. Bhutto also provides the reader with reasons she believes the two are so rarely seen together. She attributes this to both religious extremism and the hypocritical policies of western countries; in particular, she points out the United States talent for supporting freedom in other countries only when it directly benefits the U.S. economy. To give the reader some background information, Bhutto displays an excerpt from the preamble of Pakistan s Constitution. After defining Pakistan as an Islamic nation by stating that sovereignty over the entire Universe belongs to Almighty Allah (qtd. in Jacobus 175), the Constitution goes on to lay out some beliefs that coincide with those of Western democracy. The document claims that the principles of democracy, freedom, equality, tolerance, and social justice... shall be fully observed... (and the citizens of Pakistan) shall be guaranteed fundamental rights, including... social, economic, and political justice, and freedom of thought, expression, belief; faith, worship, and association (175). The preamble goes on to declare Pakistan (is)... a democratic State based on Islamic principles of social justice... dedicated to the preservation of democracy (175 176). This passage presents the reader with the idea that, fundamentally, Islamic and democratic values correspond. The Quran, Islam s foundation, also preaches many of the values familiar to democracy. Bhutto references the Quran, stating (Allah)... created people of different views and perspectives... and that diversity is good (178). She goes on to offer her interpretation of the holy book, saying the message of the Quran empowers people with rights (democracy) (178). By using multiple references, Bhutto establishes her knowledge of the governing body of Pakistan and the Islamic religion. It is difficult for the reader to doubt her authority on the subject. This leads the reader to a question: if the ideals of Islam and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
