The Subplots In Holes, By Louis Sachar
In the book Holes, written by Louis Sachar, there are multiple subplots that are all intertwined. In
particular, the Elya and Madame Zeroni subplot is tied very closely with the main plot of the book.
Madame Zeroni gives Elya a family lullaby that is actually about his future descendent, Stanley and
Madame Zeroni s future descendent, Zero. The if only song in Holes foreshadows Stanley and Zero s
character development. The reader is first introduced to the lullaby in the subplot of Elya and Madame
Zeroni. Madame Zeroni gave this song to Elya, telling him that if he sang the lullaby to his pig while
it was drinking, then it would grow bigger. She also told him that he had to come back and carry her
up the mountain and sing the lullaby to her or Elya and his descendants would be cursed forever.
However, Elya doesn t follow Madame Zeroni s directions, and he instead leaves for America, where
he meets his future wife Sarah. The lullaby that Elya receives from Madame Zeroni is actually a
family song that Madame Zeroni gave to her son who lives in America. However, when Elya
translates the song for Sarah, the song is changed because Elya is cursed. Sachar writes, Elya tried his
best to translate it from Latvian into English, but it wasn t the same, (39). This means that there are
two versions of the lullaby: one is the cursed, Yelnat s version and the other one is the unchanged,
Zeroni version. Both versions are about Stanley and Zero; the Yelnat s translation is about

Common Causes Of World War I
Through two world wars, there have been many similarities and differences over the course of this
time. It is easy to discuss both wars and how it changed the world, but when comparing common
causes of the war the overall common factors are the imperialism and nationalism that caused these
devastating wars to take place, along with instability both economically and politically all over the
world right before the wars took place. There is so much background history leading up to what
started both tragic wars and it is important to highlight factors like the economics and politics leading
up to the war and the economic life and politics taking place during both world wars along with the
leaders that got these wars to go from a war between a couple countries to a war affecting countries all
over the world.
Even though this was not a cause of the war it is important to note that in both World War I and in
World War II there were sides that were chosen. It was a battle of the Central Powers against the
Allies. The Central Powers were made up of Germany, the Ottoman Empire, and Austria. While the
Allies made up of Britain, France, Russia, Italy and the United States. In World War II the alliances
made were the Axis Powers and the Allies. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

competition throughout the world to advance themselves technologically and economically. After the
first World War, the economies that partook in the war and politics were in shambles. There were

countries indebted to the United States. This led to rocky economies throughout Europe. There was

The Similarities And Differences Of The Northern And...
The United States today, as we know it, is a very culturally, economically, politically and religiously
diverse country. This is due, in part, to the differences and division among its founding thirteen
English colonies along the country s east coast. Those thirteen states collectively made up the
Northern or New England colonies, the Mid Atlantic or Middle colonies and the rural Southern
colonies. Each of which had their own way of living and several differences that were unique to those
regions. For the men and women who populated these colonies, their new world may have slightly
resembled England, hence the names New England, New Jersey, New Hampshire, New Netherland
later renamed New York, but they wanted it not to be exactly like their ... Show more content on

in all of the southern colonies from Maryland downward to Georgia. Those farmers who own the most

colonies, making the region an oligarchy. The wealthy farmers controlled the government because

Hegemonic Masculinity Research Paper
Hegemonic masculinity represent a structure of dominance and oppression in the gender order. This
masculinity is socially and culturally endorsed by the society (as noted by Robyn and Wendy) and its

masculinity is that women are subordinate to men. Though it is not all men that practice this, but they
all benefit from it. This masculinity promote values in men such as courage, inner strength, aggression
toughness in mind and body and self reliance Men in this group often suppress their feeling in order to
avoid being view as a coward or a weakly. This may sometimes cause them to experience internal

Complicit masculinity is used to describe men in the society who do not conform or measure up to the
ideal structure of hegemonic masculinity, they do not question the systems of the gender in the society
and they also benefits from the privileges accorded to the gender. Men in this group admires the

Why Student Loan Is The Cost Of Refinancing
Looking to refinance your student loans? Millions of college graduates around the country stayed with
student loans that had annual percentage rates that were too high. When they signed up for these loans,
they weren t worried about paying them off because graduation seemed so far away. Now the time has
finally come to start repayment. Fortunately there are few good ways to ease the sting of paying back
your student loans. What we are looking for when refinancing student loan is a lower APR, or annual
percentage rate. The APR is a percentage of the total amount of money you borrowed that diminishes
as payments are made towards the loan. Another very important thing you must consider when
refinancing your loans is the cost of refinancing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With good choices, student loan refinance can save you a lot of money.
From the time students found that getting loans to complete their education was easy, more and more
students opted to continue their education. Previously there were many people who could not
complete their education because of the lack of fund. But this is not the case these days. However,
once these students get the degree, they leave college with piles of student loans also. There are many
federal and non federal student loans consolidation programs that help them ease and simplify their
repayment plan. Some think that simply by considering the lowest rate of interest they are done and
they will be able to save lot of money. This is not true. Before selecting the student loan consolidation
company, it is good to consider some essential factors. You have to see that all the terms are beneficial
for you and that too in the long run. Avoid looking for short term benefits unless you are in deep and
severe financial crisis. See that there are no charges and penalties for repaying your installments in
advance. Even if you do not have the job right now, consider these points. This is important because in
near future you are going to get the job and then you will prefer paying off all your loans as fast as
possible. When considering non

As shown in Table 2.2 and Figure 2.1, the substance that diffused most in the agar through time was
KMnO4, followed by K2 Cr2O7, then lastly, the substance that has no visible diffusion, methylene
blue, having the chemical formula C16H13N3SCl. Just as in the first part of the experiment,
molecular weight is one of the factors that affected the rate of the diffusion of the substances. KMnO4
is the lightest, having a molecular weight of 163.04 g/mol, followed by Cr2O7 having a molecular
weight of 294.2 g/mol, and lastly, the heaviest, C16H13N3SCl or methylene blue, having a molecular
weight of 319.85 g/mol. There are two factors of diffusion noticeable in this experiment: the
molecular weight of the substance, and the time for the diffusion to occur, where the longer the time
for the diffusion is allowed to occur, the greater the diffusion will be until equilibrium is reached.
However, there could be other factors that can affect diffusion. One factor could be the difference of
the concentrations of the two substances. Another factor could be the distance for the diffusion to
occur. Another factor could be the temperature when the diffusion happened. Temperature is known to
affect most chemical reactions. At higher temperatures, molecules tend to move faster. Therefore,
when molecules move faster, the rate of diffusion of substances could be faster too. In the second part
of the experiment, the factor that affects diffusion that is experimented is the time

Dealing with Change in Life
We all have dealt with change at one point in our life. Change comes in many ways from having a new
baby being born to transitioning to a new career. What I call this is forces of change. Secondly is how
we process that change. It may simple and it may not be simple. Lastly once you process the change
you are then able to manage change. If you manage change you will not be as stressed if you let it take
over you.
Change is never when you are ready. Yes you may plan to move to a new home or new state but you
are still dealing with stress. The majority of us have change come to us when we are not ready. The
most change that we have in our life is that of career change or work changes. We see it every day
businesses may close or merge with another business. This is a big deal because people need to look
for a new job or plan to retire. This change would be consider planned change. (Nelson Quick, 2013
p.668). Another change is that when managers are changed at your job. Managers come and go in a
company. Many managers will move up in the company and many will pursue a different career. This
is tough for employees to deal with because they get use to working in one direction until someone
new comes in. This is consider to be unplanned change. (Nelson Quick, 2013 p668). Many companies
do change as a globalize style. To me having a globalize style of change is planned and unplanned. I
say this because the company knows where they are moving or when they are moving, but no one

Essay about Kyoto Protocol
After ten days of tough negotiations, ministers and other high level officials from 160 countries
reached an agreement this morning on a legally binding Protocol under which industrialized countries
will reduce their collective emissions of greenhouse gases by 5.2%. The agreement aims to lower
overall emissions from a group of six greenhouse gases by 2008 12, calculated as an average over
these five years. (UNFCCC, 2011)
In December of 1997, 160 countries gathered in Kyoto, Japan to agree upon a Protocol that will curb
emissions and hopefully restore emission levels to pre industrial numbers. This Protocol is the Kyoto
Protocol established by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Control. It is widely

The atmospheres absorption of this energy helps keep our average global temperature at an ideal level
for life. Notably important is the temperature of our oceans. Our oceans are compared to a sink for
carbon dioxide, in that they hold much of the carbon dioxide that would otherwise be in the
atmosphere (Wikipedia, 2011). As the temperature of the oceans rise, they absorb less and less carbon
dioxide. Thus increasing the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and increasing the global
mean temperature, creating a snowball like effect, that would be nearly impossible to reverse. To
prevent this catastrophe the Kyoto Protocol was established as a global legally binding agreement
(Wikipedia, 2011). The objective of this agreement was to provide financing for developing countries.
The financial aid would go towards new technologies to help these countries develop in a more
sustainable manner. The Protocol also hoped to install mechanisms that report, verify, and review the
carbon emissions of each country. Lastly, the countries that helped create the Kyoto Protocol wanted it
to be a legally binding agreement that had consequences for countries who failed to meet their
emission target. The Kyoto Protocol was established as a part of the United Nations Framework
Convention on Climate Control (UNFCCC). All parties that are

Bilirubin Test Results
Why am I having this test?
The bilirubin test is used to evaluate liver function. Your health care provider may recommend this
test:
If you have hemolytic anemia.
For a newborn who has jaundice.
What is being tested?
This test measures the level of bilirubin in the body. Bilirubin is produced when red blood cells are
broken down. Normally, bilirubin is broken down in the liver and excreted as a component of bile.
However, when red blood cells are broken down more quickly than usual, or when there is a
dysfunction in how bile is excreted, bilirubin levels can become elevated. In newborns with jaundice,
elevated bilirubin levels may put the child at risk for brain damage.
What kind of sample is taken?
This test can be performed using one of the following methods: ... Show more content on

How do I prepare for this test?
Fasting requirements for this test may vary among different labs. You may be asked not to eat or drink
anything except water after midnight on the night before the test.
How are the results reported?
Your test results will be reported as a range of values. You will compare your results to normal ranges
that were established after testing a large group of healthy people. Reference ranges may vary among
different people, labs, and hospitals. For this test, reference ranges are:

history of the industry. Radio One, Inc. can acquire 12 established urban stations in the top 50

In 1999, a rare opportunity was presented to Radio One, Inc. Clear Channel Communications, Inc.
was set to merge with AMFM, creating the largest radio company in the world. Although recent
actions have relaxed the national ownership cap on the limit of stations allowed to be owned by one
entity, Clear Channel would still have to divest nearly 100 stations in 37 markets. Radio One could
acquire 12 stations from Clear Channel, which would allow Radio One to draw more African
American listeners than any other media vehicle targeting that audience, including BET. The
acquisition would double the size of Radio One, including obtaining a station in Los Angeles, the
fourth largest African American market in the United States.
Benefits and Risks of Acquisition The acquisition would allow Radio One to acquire stations in the
top 50 African American markets. Radio One has always produced broadcasts that target that group,
which is the largest minority group in America. Based on the information from the case, the African
American minority group is expected to experience 60% faster population growth than the general
population. The minority group has also experiencing 150% faster income growth between 1980 and
1995. African Americans listen to the radio on average 24% longer than the general population. That
information is favorable to the acquisition decision, as the new markets should experience an increase
in advertising revenue. One concern is that

A Spiritual Perspective On Theological Inquiry Essay
A Spiritual Perspective on Theological Inquiry
Spiritual practice and theological inquiry are not mutually exclusive, rather they possess an intrinsic
connection. This relationship also exists between spirituality and self reflexivity, promoting an
examined life which connects to a larger moral vision that extends beyond the self into the
community. Spirituality, theological inquiry, and self reflexivity interact as a paradox of religious
identity rooted in one s being while also being critically open, fair minded, and participatory in
dialogue. Karl Rahner s The Hearer of the Message delineates the inherent connectivity between
academic and spiritual life, religious tradition and community, theology and self reflexivity. Through
the lense of Rahner, I will argue that the self reflexive writing and pursuit of philosophical theology in
both religious and academic contexts is a spiritual practice.
Obstacles to an Academic and Spiritual Life
Rahner underscores the interlocking relationship of philosophy and theology, and this idea directly
pertains to the relationship between academic and spiritual contexts. Rather than being so opposed, the
love of wisdom is akin to the love of the Divine. Stemming from a collection of sources, I will explore
the relationship of spirituality to the present world, in religious and academic spheres. Schneider s

Technology And Evolution Of Cell Phones
When cell phones were first introduced, they were large and expensive. In 1983 the first truly mobile
phone was released by Motorola. It was the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x. To some people it is known as
the Zack Morris phone. He used this phone on a regular basis in a popular television show called
Saved by the bell which took place in the late 80 s to early 90 s. It was an extremely large device
compared to the ones we are used to now and it was only designed to make phone calls. It was not
often used for personal use like today. They were primarily used in the sales and business world, but
not for personal use like you see today said Kreg Jones, an industrial designer and industrial design
instructor at the Art institute of Philadelphia ( The History and Evolution of Cell Phones ). Initially
cell phones could only make phone calls. In later cell phones eventually voicemail was added, but the
main feature was still talking. Eventually companies realized the potential to integrate other
technologies into the phones. The earliest smart phones integrated email access and allowed the phone
to be used as an address book, pager, and fax machine. Cell phones more recently picked up the name
mobile device as the purpose has shifted to more of a multimedia device rather than just a phone used
for only direct communication. Cell phones have come a long way since then. They have continued to
evolve and have become a huge part of our life today. It s not just adults who have

Analysis of Gregory the Great’s Letters
The Pope is the head of the Church: he represents the ultimate religious authority. However, as a
Bishop of Rome, the Pope is also in command of certain secular affairs, including some military
aspects. Certainly, the Pope is a link between the earthly and the divine realms. Problems arise when
the imperfect world the Pope physically lives in interferes with his heavenly objectives. Taking Pope
Gregory I as an example, I am going to look at his letters to analyze how he reconciled his political
and spiritual goals, whether he valued one category over the other, and how he justified it.
The first letter we will consider is dated 27 September 591, one year after Gregory assumed his post as
the Pope. Gregory is writing to Velox, a junior military commander of the Roman army united against
the Duke of Spoleto, Ariulf. The conflict Gregory is involved in is the struggle between the Eastern
Roman Empire and the Lombard Kingdom, a Germanic race originated from Sweden that controlled
much of present day Italy, for a strip of land called Via Flaminia that separated Ravenna from Rome.
The purpose of the first half of the letter is for Gregory to explain that he has not yet sent any
promised troops for help because Velox s last letter indicated that they might be needed here also ,
which supposedly means in Gregory s own lands. In the second half of the letter Gregory promises to
send some troops and encourages Velox to instruct them to fight well. He then gives some strategic

Religion Reflection Paper
Religion is practiced worldwide in many different forms. My family and I have been through a
religious journey throughout my lifetime. When I was younger, I would attend a Mennonite church
with my grandmother and my parents would come mostly for holidays. They were not very much of
the church going type until I was older. My dad did not see it was important for us to attend church
until his parents returned home from missionary work in Guadalajara, Mexico when my grandmother
was diagnosed with cancer. I was in third grade when they returned home and we did not start
attending regularly until a few years after. We still lived in a Christian home but as I have grown up,
looking back, I see that it was not much of a Christian home. We only prayed on holidays before we
would eat our meal and that was when we were surrounded by my grandparents of either side.
Eventually we started attending church regularly at a United Methodist church up the road from our
house. I still do not believe we are that dedicated to the church and to God, as we only pray before we
eat on Sundays and holidays as well. We do not speak much of God or ways we could work on being
better Christians, we still go about the same ways of life we had before, except now on Sundays we
attend a sermon. After all of this, I am slightly torn on what I personally believe. I feel as though I am

The Compensation Of Chief Executive Officers Essay
Introduction The compensation of chief executive officers and the methodology used to determine it
has become a major topic of debate in the business world. Many people wonder not only why and how
it has gotten to be so high, but also why it isn t distributed amongst other major contributors inside the
company, or even amongst the lower ranks of the workforce via an increase in wage rates. One of the
more recent theories that provides an explanation to the increase in the pay of chief executive officers
is the size of firms relative to earlier years in business development. Xavier Gabaix (2006, p. 50),
states that his, central equation predicts that a CEOs equilibrium pay is increasing with both the size of
his firm and the size of the average firm in the economy. This theory discusses largely that as the
scope of the economy increases, it is only natural that CEOs be compensated at a higher rate. The
reasoning behind this is that the CEOs are managing companies of higher value, and thus are in theory
putting more work and effort into their companies as well. Based off this theory, it makes complete
sense to do this. However, I have set out to see if I can discover any other concrete reasoning behind
these often astronomical salaries, and if so, determine if this reasoning is useful in determining salaries
across a wide range of industries and structures of very successful publicly traded companies. One of
the main reasons I wanted to take a look at both

College Sports Transition
With every beginning to an individual s sports career, there has to be an end. Most player s careers end
after their four years of playing a high school sport. Although many high school players want the
opportunity to play sports in college, most are unaware of the increased workload required to play a
college sport.
When a high school player thinks about continuing their career to play college sports they often
imagine the transition into college as being uncomplicated. Once an athlete begins their career into
college they are shocked to find out the transition is far more complicated than they anticipated. One
reason why this transition into college sports is more difficult is because of talent. For example, an
athlete with a greater talent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An athlete must realize that he or she is expected to perform just as well in academics as they do in
athletics. Many athletes do not consider the struggle of juggling a college sport and taking classes full
time. Although it is important for the athlete to do their best in sports, it is also important to keep a
good GPA and focus on school. Many coaches push this because without having a 2.3 GPA an athlete
cannot play. While the players are going from only playing the sport for a few months out of the year
to playing it year round, athletes struggle to find the time in their schedules to balance academics and
athletics. Another negative effect for an athlete transitioning from high school to college is being away
from home. This effects the athlete tremendously because this is often the first time an athlete has to
experience what it is like to be away from their family. Because college sports require more input
from the athlete than it did in high school, the athlete has to spend more time at college working to
improve in their sport. Due to the extra work that has to be put in to the sport, the athlete does not get
to go home on the weekends often. As a result, an athlete should consider the negative effects that the

Catapults
The physics behind a catapult can be a complex topic to grasp. But, when broken down, looking
individually at their historical uses, design types, and related physics concepts, it s surprisingly simple
to form an opinion on which catapult design is most effective and why. These categories, when
combined, define the uses, functionality, and effectiveness of the historical (and modern day) catapult.
Catapults were originally developed in 399 B.C, and had derived their shooting power from springs,
twisted bundles of cords, or heavier weighted cords. When the twisted ropes on these catapults were
released, a stone weighing around 50 pounds could be launched the length of four football fields,
though some of the largest catapults could throw stones up to 600 pounds, and some of the smaller
models were used to launch flaming arrows at foes (Jason Richie, Designing the Tools of War).
Catapults, you see, were used for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ballista is also a very viable option, but I truly believe the trebuchet is the way to go, and let me
explain why. First, the transfer of energy that occurs when the weight is dropped, should allow the
projectile to launch quickly and have significantly more force, which is important when hitting the
intended target. Second, a trebuchet was originally used more than the basic catapult, and far
preferred, due to its greater range capabilities and improved accuracy. The mechanical advantage of
dropping the counterweight to lift the beam, allows the payload to achieve a higher velocity, which
creates a faster more efficient catapult. There are many other types of catapults that use different
physics methods to achieve high speed and a strong force, but between the more complicated
structures and the varied intentions for uses when being built, each other model performs tasks
differently. Therefore, I believe the best catapult option is the classic

Modern Social Media And All Forms Of Print Alike
Modern social media and all forms of print alike have become overrun with advertisements. These ads
become distractions to the readers and take their mind away from the sole purpose of the articles.
More specifically, this advertisement featured in Men s Health magazine from March of 2015, shows a
full back cover dedicated to LA Muscle. This company sells a large merchandise line of dietary
supplements and workout enhancing products appealing to males ages 16 40. Starring in this ad is
their Gold LA Whey Protein. Their ads have been known to catch readers off guard and steal their
attention from the actual magazine. With the sophisticated text, colors, and images, this ad hits Men s
Health readers with intimidation, current trends, and image coaxing them into purchasing their over
priced, no guarantee product. First off, LA Muscle immediately grabs the readers attention by
rhetorically asking, Protein is protein, right? WRONG. This statement is meant to make readers
question whether or not the protein they currently use compares to the one that is being marketed to
them. The word WRONG is boldly printed, to intimidate readers and make them second guess
themselves for thinking all protein is the same. The strong emphasis on this word quickly grabs the
readers attention. Even those readers who have done their research about their supplements may be
swayed into thinking that their opinion on the most beneficial protein could not be correct. This tactic

The Diversity Of Black Americans
Diversity is now, more than ever before, at the forefront of the American conversation. Black people
have been slowly but surely making gains in today s society and in ways that were not possible before.
African Americans are more educated and more affluent, and more important as consumers than ever
before. By 2017, they are expected to have a spending power of 1.3 trillion dollars (Resilient, 2013).
Young, influential, and brand loyal, this group should be the target of many companies. Interestingly
enough, there has not been much of an effort on the part of marketers to appeal to this growing group.
Additionally, the lack of diversity as well as the alienation of black people in the media is not doing
much to allow a wider range of companies to reach them. Black Americans are a powerful group, and
smart marketers will put a focus on investing in them to increase their market share.
It is important that people learning about the black customer understand the diversity of the black
population in America. Since 1990, the black immigrant population has nearly doubled, with 3.8
million living in the country now. This is almost 9% of the black population. This is only going to
continue by 2060, the U.S. Census predicts that one out of six U.S. blacks...will be immigrants
(Increasingly Affluent, 2015, p. 12). This is important from a marketing standpoint this group of
blacks come from very different backgrounds and can identify as black in a very different way than

The Safety Of Driving And Driving
Government interference was first introduced under the automobile industry dating back to the very
early 1900s, with a large topic that many people miss when going back into history: the safety of it all.
We, the population of today, are given the ability to drive up to 85mph without thinking twice about it,
our only focus being on the destination. This is recompensed to the drivers of the twenty first century
through the technical advances in firm laws, better drivers education systems, and safer roads and
vehicles. On the other hand, this was not the case a century ago, nor were drivers given the same
luxury just fifty years ago. As the high end, expensive motorized vehicle for the opulence became
cheaper and more common on the streets, danger risks peeked increasingly year after year. As broad as
it may seem, there were only two things that caused accidents on the road: lack of education when
needed in specific situations and orders to abide by. A century ago, no one thought otherwise when it
came to speeding on left turns, drinking and driving, and following the simplest, safest guidelines that
includes just wearing a seatbelt, and so this is when the government intervenes. Dating all the way
back to 1901, Connecticut was the very first state to enforce a speeding limit on motorized vehicles,
an annoying facet of today s roads from the eyes of our speeding parents. This limited the cars to
driving 12 mph within the cities and 15 mph along country roads. (History.com

Reflective Essay On Fitness Class
I partake in three different fitness classes which are very different from each other. I went to self

was skeptical about going because I m not a fitness person I assumed i would ve made a fool of
myself. My sister was like let s do it I ll go with you to all your trial, which motivate me to do it. The
first one I went to is the self defense class because I always wanted to know how to protect myself just

how to defend yourself, so I though. The class started at 7 Pm, I noticed there was a lot of others there

enjoy it, but a second trial could change my perspective. Next time I ll make sure I m prepare, now
that I have an idea of what to expect. To be honest It would not be fair if I say I did not like yoga
based on my trial, because I did not give the trial a fair chance by going while I was sick. I might try a
different location just in case it was the instructor that was a bit too intense for me. The third trial I did
was Zumba class. I went to Zumba class because of my mom. She wants to lose weight, but she doesn
t want to work out. I thought Zumba would be the perfect thing for her. It took a while for me to
convince her to go, but once she did she enjoyed herself. Zumba class help her focus more on having
fun instead of working out. Not to mention that none of us knew what we were doing because it was
our first time, which made it even more fun. As time pass by we caught with the class which I though
was interesting. After the class we sign up for the membership card even though our body was sore
afterward. We enjoyed every bit of it even my mom, I was impressed with how willing my mom was
to sign up for the membership. We been going to Zumba class ever since the trial. After all those trial I
ve lost a couple pounds which I was not looking forward to because I m trying to gain weight.

Last year, upon finishing our unit, I encouraged my students to do a bit of searching on their own to

they found to be outstanding. I had a few students take me up on this ... Show more content on

The extent to which Wooden s pyramid of success fits today s business environment
Touching on some key tenets of his pyramid of success, he provides what is ideal, what if followed
would lead to great success. The pyramid ideals don t really aptly fit in today s business environment.
Most of the times, the flag is usually highly held up by the leader, a C.E.O or the managing director of
an organization. The staff usually does not follow through with these aspirations. Workers are not
enthusiastic about their job roles; they are there because they needed a job. They thus do not care
about being their very best in what they do. Leaders also have no time to make the staff work as a
team; to some leadership is not a calling. It is something they have to do to earn a living which is a
really pitiful situation.
However, top management in most institutions exhibit key alertness especially those in political
campaigns or competitive parties. For example currently, in the US, the battle between Trump and
Hillary is quite stiff. The men and women behind them exhibit great initiative, alertness and somewhat
self control. If I may continue using political examples the current President and deputy president of
Kenya, Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta and Mr. William Ruto went through the storms of the ICC

Willia Virtue Based Ethical Theory
Introduction An ethical dilemma exists when a moral decision must be made between two or more
possible scenarios. It is defined as a situation requiring a person to take action or not to take action
based on moral grounds (Braunack Mayer, 2001). In business, such dilemmas occur frequently as
employees, leaders, and organizations, are faced with complex problems that may impact multiple
stakeholders in various ways that are not always equal or equitable. A sound ethical decision begins
with a set of core values that define the person facing the situation (UC San Diego, 2014). The
following case study identifies an ethical dilemma, compares the use of consequentialist theory and
virtue based theory to determine the best decision to make, and analyzes the results. Ethical Dilemma

  • 2. The Subplots In Holes, By Louis Sachar In the book Holes, written by Louis Sachar, there are multiple subplots that are all intertwined. In particular, the Elya and Madame Zeroni subplot is tied very closely with the main plot of the book. Madame Zeroni gives Elya a family lullaby that is actually about his future descendent, Stanley and Madame Zeroni s future descendent, Zero. The if only song in Holes foreshadows Stanley and Zero s character development. The reader is first introduced to the lullaby in the subplot of Elya and Madame Zeroni. Madame Zeroni gave this song to Elya, telling him that if he sang the lullaby to his pig while it was drinking, then it would grow bigger. She also told him that he had to come back and carry her up the mountain and sing the lullaby to her or Elya and his descendants would be cursed forever. However, Elya doesn t follow Madame Zeroni s directions, and he instead leaves for America, where he meets his future wife Sarah. The lullaby that Elya receives from Madame Zeroni is actually a family song that Madame Zeroni gave to her son who lives in America. However, when Elya translates the song for Sarah, the song is changed because Elya is cursed. Sachar writes, Elya tried his best to translate it from Latvian into English, but it wasn t the same, (39). This means that there are two versions of the lullaby: one is the cursed, Yelnat s version and the other one is the unchanged, Zeroni version. Both versions are about Stanley and Zero; the Yelnat s translation is about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Common Causes Of World War I Through two world wars, there have been many similarities and differences over the course of this time. It is easy to discuss both wars and how it changed the world, but when comparing common causes of the war the overall common factors are the imperialism and nationalism that caused these devastating wars to take place, along with instability both economically and politically all over the world right before the wars took place. There is so much background history leading up to what started both tragic wars and it is important to highlight factors like the economics and politics leading up to the war and the economic life and politics taking place during both world wars along with the leaders that got these wars to go from a war between a couple countries to a war affecting countries all over the world. Even though this was not a cause of the war it is important to note that in both World War I and in World War II there were sides that were chosen. It was a battle of the Central Powers against the Allies. The Central Powers were made up of Germany, the Ottoman Empire, and Austria. While the Allies made up of Britain, France, Russia, Italy and the United States. In World War II the alliances made were the Axis Powers and the Allies. The ... • 4. The Similarities And Differences Of The Northern And... The United States today, as we know it, is a very culturally, economically, politically and religiously diverse country. This is due, in part, to the differences and division among its founding thirteen English colonies along the country s east coast. Those thirteen states collectively made up the Northern or New England colonies, the Mid Atlantic or Middle colonies and the rural Southern colonies. Each of which had their own way of living and several differences that were unique to those regions. For the men and women who populated these colonies, their new world may have slightly resembled England, hence the names New England, New Jersey, New Hampshire, New Netherland later renamed New York, but they wanted it not to be exactly like their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As shown in Table 2.2 and Figure 2.1, the substance that diffused most in the agar through time was KMnO4, followed by K2 Cr2O7, then lastly, the substance that has no visible diffusion, methylene blue, having the chemical formula C16H13N3SCl. Just as in the first part of the experiment, molecular weight is one of the factors that affected the rate of the diffusion of the substances. KMnO4 is the lightest, having a molecular weight of 163.04 g/mol, followed by Cr2O7 having a molecular weight of 294.2 g/mol, and lastly, the heaviest, C16H13N3SCl or methylene blue, having a molecular weight of 319.85 g/mol. There are two factors of diffusion noticeable in this experiment: the molecular weight of the substance, and the time for the diffusion to occur, where the longer the time for the diffusion is allowed to occur, the greater the diffusion will be until equilibrium is reached. However, there could be other factors that can affect diffusion. One factor could be the difference of the concentrations of the two substances. Another factor could be the distance for the diffusion to occur. Another factor could be the temperature when the diffusion happened. Temperature is known to affect most chemical reactions. At higher temperatures, molecules tend to move faster. Therefore, when molecules move faster, the rate of diffusion of substances could be faster too. In the second part of the experiment, the factor that affects diffusion that is experimented is the time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Dealing with Change in Life We all have dealt with change at one point in our life. Change comes in many ways from having a new baby being born to transitioning to a new career. What I call this is forces of change. Secondly is how we process that change. It may simple and it may not be simple. Lastly once you process the change you are then able to manage change. If you manage change you will not be as stressed if you let it take over you. Change is never when you are ready. Yes you may plan to move to a new home or new state but you are still dealing with stress. The majority of us have change come to us when we are not ready. The most change that we have in our life is that of career change or work changes. We see it every day businesses may close or merge with another business. This is a big deal because people need to look for a new job or plan to retire. This change would be consider planned change. (Nelson Quick, 2013 p.668). Another change is that when managers are changed at your job. Managers come and go in a company. Many managers will move up in the company and many will pursue a different career. This is tough for employees to deal with because they get use to working in one direction until someone new comes in. This is consider to be unplanned change. (Nelson Quick, 2013 p668). Many companies do change as a globalize style. To me having a globalize style of change is planned and unplanned. I say this because the company knows where they are moving or when they are moving, but no one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Essay about Kyoto Protocol After ten days of tough negotiations, ministers and other high level officials from 160 countries reached an agreement this morning on a legally binding Protocol under which industrialized countries will reduce their collective emissions of greenhouse gases by 5.2%. The agreement aims to lower overall emissions from a group of six greenhouse gases by 2008 12, calculated as an average over these five years. (UNFCCC, 2011) In December of 1997, 160 countries gathered in Kyoto, Japan to agree upon a Protocol that will curb emissions and hopefully restore emission levels to pre industrial numbers. This Protocol is the Kyoto Protocol established by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Control. It is widely believed that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The atmospheres absorption of this energy helps keep our average global temperature at an ideal level for life. Notably important is the temperature of our oceans. Our oceans are compared to a sink for carbon dioxide, in that they hold much of the carbon dioxide that would otherwise be in the atmosphere (Wikipedia, 2011). As the temperature of the oceans rise, they absorb less and less carbon dioxide. Thus increasing the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and increasing the global mean temperature, creating a snowball like effect, that would be nearly impossible to reverse. To prevent this catastrophe the Kyoto Protocol was established as a global legally binding agreement (Wikipedia, 2011). The objective of this agreement was to provide financing for developing countries. The financial aid would go towards new technologies to help these countries develop in a more sustainable manner. The Protocol also hoped to install mechanisms that report, verify, and review the carbon emissions of each country. Radio One could acquire 12 stations from Clear Channel, which would allow Radio One to draw more African American listeners than any other media vehicle targeting that audience, including BET. • 13. A Spiritual Perspective On Theological Inquiry Essay A Spiritual Perspective on Theological Inquiry Spiritual practice and theological inquiry are not mutually exclusive, rather they possess an intrinsic connection. This relationship also exists between spirituality and self reflexivity, promoting an examined life which connects to a larger moral vision that extends beyond the self into the community. Spirituality, theological inquiry, and self reflexivity interact as a paradox of religious identity rooted in one s being while also being critically open, fair minded, and participatory in dialogue. Karl Rahner s The Hearer of the Message delineates the inherent connectivity between academic and spiritual life, religious tradition and community, theology and self reflexivity. Through the lense of Rahner, I will argue that the self reflexive writing and pursuit of philosophical theology in both religious and academic contexts is a spiritual practice. Obstacles to an Academic and Spiritual Life Rahner underscores the interlocking relationship of philosophy and theology, and this idea directly pertains to the relationship between academic and spiritual contexts. Rather than being so opposed, the love of wisdom is akin to the love of the Divine. It was the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x. To some people it is known as the Zack Morris phone. He used this phone on a regular basis in a popular television show called Saved by the bell which took place in the late 80 s to early 90 s. It was an extremely large device compared to the ones we are used to now and it was only designed to make phone calls. It was not often used for personal use like today. They were primarily used in the sales and business world, but not for personal use like you see today said Kreg Jones, an industrial designer and industrial design instructor at the Art institute of Philadelphia ( The History and Evolution of Cell Phones ). Initially cell phones could only make phone calls. In later cell phones eventually voicemail was added, but the main feature was still talking. Eventually companies realized the potential to integrate other technologies into the phones. The earliest smart phones integrated email access and allowed the phone to be used as an address book, pager, and fax machine. Cell phones more recently picked up the name mobile device as the purpose has shifted to more of a multimedia device rather than just a phone used for only direct communication. However, as a Bishop of Rome, the Pope is also in command of certain secular affairs, including some military aspects. Certainly, the Pope is a link between the earthly and the divine realms. Problems arise when the imperfect world the Pope physically lives in interferes with his heavenly objectives. Taking Pope Gregory I as an example, I am going to look at his letters to analyze how he reconciled his political and spiritual goals, whether he valued one category over the other, and how he justified it. The first letter we will consider is dated 27 September 591, one year after Gregory assumed his post as the Pope. Gregory is writing to Velox, a junior military commander of the Roman army united against the Duke of Spoleto, Ariulf. The conflict Gregory is involved in is the struggle between the Eastern Roman Empire and the Lombard Kingdom, a Germanic race originated from Sweden that controlled much of present day Italy, for a strip of land called Via Flaminia that separated Ravenna from Rome. The purpose of the first half of the letter is for Gregory to explain that he has not yet sent any promised troops for help because Velox s last letter indicated that they might be needed here also , which supposedly means in Gregory s own lands. In the second half of the letter Gregory promises to send some troops and encourages Velox to instruct them to fight well. He then gives some strategic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When I was younger, I would attend a Mennonite church with my grandmother and my parents would come mostly for holidays. They were not very much of the church going type until I was older. My dad did not see it was important for us to attend church until his parents returned home from missionary work in Guadalajara, Mexico when my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer. I was in third grade when they returned home and we did not start attending regularly until a few years after. We still lived in a Christian home but as I have grown up, looking back, I see that it was not much of a Christian home. We only prayed on holidays before we would eat our meal and that was when we were surrounded by my grandparents of either side. Eventually we started attending church regularly at a United Methodist church up the road from our house. I still do not believe we are that dedicated to the church and to God, as we only pray before we eat on Sundays and holidays as well. We do not speak much of God or ways we could work on being better Christians, we still go about the same ways of life we had before, except now on Sundays we attend a sermon. The Compensation Of Chief Executive Officers Essay Introduction The compensation of chief executive officers and the methodology used to determine it has become a major topic of debate in the business world. Many people wonder not only why and how it has gotten to be so high, but also why it isn t distributed amongst other major contributors inside the company, or even amongst the lower ranks of the workforce via an increase in wage rates. One of the more recent theories that provides an explanation to the increase in the pay of chief executive officers is the size of firms relative to earlier years in business development. Xavier Gabaix (2006, p. 50), states that his, central equation predicts that a CEOs equilibrium pay is increasing with both the size of his firm and the size of the average firm in the economy. This theory discusses largely that as the scope of the economy increases, it is only natural that CEOs be compensated at a higher rate. The reasoning behind this is that the CEOs are managing companies of higher value, and thus are in theory putting more work and effort into their companies as well. Based off this theory, it makes complete sense to do this. However, I have set out to see if I can discover any other concrete reasoning behind these often astronomical salaries, and if so, determine if this reasoning is useful in determining salaries across a wide range of industries and structures of very successful publicly traded companies. But, when broken down, looking individually at their historical uses, design types, and related physics concepts, it s surprisingly simple to form an opinion on which catapult design is most effective and why. These categories, when combined, define the uses, functionality, and effectiveness of the historical (and modern day) catapult. Catapults were originally developed in 399 B.C, and had derived their shooting power from springs, twisted bundles of cords, or heavier weighted cords. When the twisted ropes on these catapults were released, a stone weighing around 50 pounds could be launched the length of four football fields, though some of the largest catapults could throw stones up to 600 pounds, and some of the smaller models were used to launch flaming arrows at foes (Jason Richie, Designing the Tools of War). First, the transfer of energy that occurs when the weight is dropped, should allow the projectile to launch quickly and have significantly more force, which is important when hitting the intended target. Second, a trebuchet was originally used more than the basic catapult, and far preferred, due to its greater range capabilities and improved accuracy. The mechanical advantage of dropping the counterweight to lift the beam, allows the payload to achieve a higher velocity, which creates a faster more efficient catapult. There are many other types of catapults that use different physics methods to achieve high speed and a strong force, but between the more complicated structures and the varied intentions for uses when being built, each other model performs tasks differently. The Safety Of Driving And Driving Government interference was first introduced under the automobile industry dating back to the very early 1900s, with a large topic that many people miss when going back into history: the safety of it all. We, the population of today, are given the ability to drive up to 85mph without thinking twice about it, our only focus being on the destination. This is recompensed to the drivers of the twenty first century through the technical advances in firm laws, better drivers education systems, and safer roads and vehicles. On the other hand, this was not the case a century ago, nor were drivers given the same luxury just fifty years ago. As the high end, expensive motorized vehicle for the opulence became cheaper and more common on the streets, danger risks peeked increasingly year after year. As broad as it may seem, there were only two things that caused accidents on the road: lack of education when needed in specific situations and orders to abide by. A century ago, no one thought otherwise when it came to speeding on left turns, drinking and driving, and following the simplest, safest guidelines that includes just wearing a seatbelt, and so this is when the government intervenes. Dating all the way back to 1901, Connecticut was the very first state to enforce a speeding limit on motorized vehicles, an annoying facet of today s roads from the eyes of our speeding parents. The pyramid ideals don t really aptly fit in today s business environment. Most of the times, the flag is usually highly held up by the leader, a C.E.O or the managing director of an organization. The staff usually does not follow through with these aspirations. Workers are not enthusiastic about their job roles; they are there because they needed a job. They thus do not care about being their very best in what they do. Leaders also have no time to make the staff work as a team; to some leadership is not a calling. It is something they have to do to earn a living which is a really pitiful situation.
