2. Karma Chameleon Analysis
The song, Karma Chameleon, by Culture Club was written by the band s lead singer, Boy
George. Karma Chameleon was released in 1983 and reached the top charts in Great Britain,
and in 1984, Culture Club won Best Single for the song at the Brit Awards. Through the song,
Boy George communicates the fear of alienation. At first listen, the meaning is uncertain in the
lyrics, but it is clear in the video. The video takes place in Mississippi in 1877 with dozens of
people dressed in the garb of that period. Although there are dozens of the 19th century citizens,
there is one that stands out: Boy George. The song is about the terrible fear of alienation that
people have, the fear of standing up for one thing. It s about trying to suck up to everybody [...],

As a younger man, Boy George worked as a bagger for a grocery store. He had been dressing in
his usual garb for his whole life but was fired because he began wearing the bags. Because of his
extravagant look, he was fired for being himself. This fact gives much more insight into what
Karma Chameleon really means. As mentioned before, you string along has its own meaning in the

someone waiting or in a state of uncertainty. These lines are directed towards the unknown character
who repeatedly keeps the singer waiting for affection. Along with the title is another significant

3. The Fall Of A City By Alden Nowlan Summary
The short story The Fall of a City by Alden Nowlan is a warm and emotional text. The main idea
of this beautiful story is that some situations in life are just unavoidable. Life is full of both good
and bad surprises, it s inevitable. Alden Nowlan authenticates that life in unpredictable by using
symbols, imagery and figurative language. Nowlan uses plenty of symbols in this short story. One
of them are the city Teddy created using his paper dolls. The city represents Teddy s life in a
more playful manner. In the paper doll city called Kingdom of Upalia, Teddy imagines the
family to be royal and rich which is not the case in real life. Another symbol is one of the
characters in Teddy s paper doll city. While Teddy sits down at supper with his aunt and uncle,
he notices that his uncle s face is the resemblance of Zikla, Duke of Anders who is known to be
one of the antagonists in Teddy s paper doll city. This story goes on with the use of symbols
related to Teddy s city.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first one is how Teddy sees the rain fall down the glass window and describes it as a muted
banjo twanging on the roof. This helps the reader understand what Teddy is hearing at the
moment. Teddy also explaines that the raindrops rolled down the glass like quicksilver which
means they were rolling down quickly and the author is trying to show the readers how fast the
raindrops are going. Last but not least, Teddy talks about the flag of his city and this statement
describes it perfectly, from the turreted roof of the palace, hung a green, white and gold tricolour,
the flag of the Kingdom of Upalia. This helps readers visualize what the flag looks like. Imagery is
a very powerful way of communicating ideas to the readers and Alden Nowlan used it

4. Comparison Of Irony In Marigolds And The Monkey s Paw
Being thankful for what you already posses is essential for living a happy life, as it is healthy to
focus on the things you already have and to not focus on the things others have. In the story
Marigolds by Eugenia W. Collier and the story The Monkey s Paw by W.W. Jacobs, both authors
gives examples as to why it is important to be thankful for what you already have, and to not
dwell on what others might have that you don t. In the story The Monkey s Paw by W.W.
Jacobs, the author uses irony to highlight how important it is to be happy with what you already
own, and to not want things that you don t really need. After the White s family learns about the
wishing abilities of the Monkey s Paw, but also are given a warning not to use at as it is evil,

The amygdala is an almond shaped region that is key to the normal expression of emotions,
specially fear. Brian imaging studies see high activity in the amygdala when subjects experience
anxiety, stress of phobias. The vmPFC can be thought of a s a higher part of the brain, involved in
less well defined activities such as emptional processing and decision making. The hippocampus is
a larger region that is very simply, involved in memory.
Brain imaging studies of PTSD sufferers shows two things, it reduces activity in the vmPFC and
increased activity in the amygdala. The long studies showed that in PTSD the vmPFC is sleep at
the wheel, allowing the amygdala to go unchecked that more likely produces many of the intense
anxiety symptoms that make it the key feature of PTSD. There are marked differences in
pathways, hormone and glucocorticoid levels and atrophy of the hippocampus is common. The
pathologic development of PTSD only occurs if the response leading to resolution of the trauma is
disrupted in some way.

7. Tuberculosis And Asthma Similarities
Lung diseases are some of the most common medical conditions in the world (1). Millions of
people suffer from lung disease in the world (1). Some of the lung diseases can cause death such as
tuberculosis. Therefore, it is very important to have enough information about them and to know
the symptoms of each one of them. Tuberculosis and asthmaare two dangerous lung diseases, and
everyone should know the similarities and the differences between them.
Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis, which most
commonly attacks the lungs (2). Moreover, it makes the lungs unhealthy and infected. It is
transmitted from one person to another via droplets. For example, from the throats and lungs of
people infected with this active respiratory disease (2). In 2012, nearly nine million people around

because of dust. The second difference is that tuberculosis is an infectious disease (5) (7). In
contrast, asthma is a non transmissible disease (6) (8). For example, if someone was infected with
tuberculosis, all the people around him will be infected, but if someone was infected with asthma,
and he was with other people, they will not be infected. The third difference is that tuberculosis is
curable, whereas asthma is incurable (5) (7). For instance, tuberculosis treatment takes from six to
nine months to cure the body, but asthma s treatment is lifelong (6) (8). In conclusion, tuberculosis

from blood loss. (bleeding to death)I wanted to research on this natural disasters because I want to
help make the worldsafe and its life in the world. I care about the destruction of these natural
disasters. There can be a buildingthat is one billion dollars that is just built, then it was destroyed
during a tornado or hurricane. The main point or question i m overall trying to cover is that why
don t we try to stop or predict and help fight the disasters in the world. We can help in a lot of
ways to help stop many things from dying or the destruction it causes.I think I can, I will stop this
by telling the world that we can help prevent these natural disasters by helping each other to help
predict and someday prevent them.
There are many reasons to help prevent or stop these natural disasters. These solutions are available
because of the fact that we have a lot more people than we need to help prevent or stop these natural
disasters. These solutions include building, donating, and in general stop doing stuff that is
dangerous during a natural disaster. One of these is building dams or walls to prevent tsunamis if the
wall is big and strong to prevent from these natural disasters from hitting.

9. How Does Malvolio Present Olivia Throughout The Play
In the play Twelfth Night , Malvolio is a steward for Lady Olivia. He s very in love with her and
only she has to deal with it. On the other hand, Olivia is plainly not in love with him; she is in
love with Cesario. He tries everything to try and win her love but he also has a negative attitude
towards others. Malvolio s behavior is unacceptable and other people shouldn t have to deal with
it. Other characters in the play strongly dislike Malvolio. When Olivia isn t around he thinks and
acts like he s the king and that Olivia is his lady. Malvolio had stated, My lady bade me tell you,
that... she s nothing allied to your disorder about Sir Toby (W.S 23). Even when he comes into
the scene with other characters, he decides to say, Besides, she uses me with a more exalted
respect than any one else that follows her (W.S 30).With that he s saying that Olivia treats him
like a king and puts him over top of everyone. The only reason why Olivia had to deal with him
is because he is her steward. A reason why I think she only puts up with Malvolio is that he will
do anything the she commands. For when Cesario was outside she had said to Malvolio Go you,

technology can provide what it promises a surer sense of who we are and where we belong.
Rosen s purpose of her article is to argue that social networking sites are doing more harm than
good. Rosen uses multiple studies and quotes to present her argument. In this article Rosen uses
a plethora of examples and sources to make her argument/ideas credible. Rosen used one of
Stanley Milgram s studies to show how there were six degrees of separation, but now with social
media people are connected by closer to three degrees of separation, according to Duncan J.
Watts. Rosen uses the essay The Strength of Weak Ties by sociologist Mark Granovetter to
strengthen her argument on how social media is mostly weak ties and not true real friendships.
Also she uses a survey by the Pew Internet and American Life Project that states more than half of
all Americans between the ages of twelve and seventeen use some online social media coverage of
social networking site. Then Rosen goes on to say how there is a nearly unbridgeable generational
divide, with tech savvy youngsters redefining friendship while their doddering elders look on with
bafflement and increasing anxiety. This survey helps Rosen s argument that states how friendship

12. Isolation Of Clove Oil
Isolation of Clove Oil by Steam Distillation
Introduction:
One method used to isolate oils from a material is to use steam distillation. Many organic
chemicals decompose before reaching their boiling point, so normal distillation will not work.
However, steam is used to carry small amounts of these organic chemicals where they can
condense and be collected. This is an important part process in organic chemistry which allows us
to extract and test oils. The purpose of this lab is to isolate eugenol (clove oil) from cloves using
steam distillation. The eugenol is further separated by using a nonpolar solvent in a separation
funnel to remove it from the water and distilling the solvent to leave behind pure eugenol.

Transfer the dried dichloromethane into the round bottom flask using a pipet. Be sure to leave the
magnesium sulfate behind.
Assemble a simple distillation apparatus and remove the solvent. Dichloromethane boils at a
relatively low temperature so not much heat is needed.
Allow the round bottom flask with eugenol in it to cool and record the mass. Subtract the weight of
the round bottom flask to obtain the mass of eugenol.
Dissolve the eugenol in 10 ml of methanol.
Obtain 4 test tubes and add 1 ml of methanol to each test tube. Using a Pasteur pipet, add five
drops of the methanol clove oil to test tube 3 and ten drops into test tube 4. Gently swirl each tube.
Using a Pasteur pipet, add three drops of 0.05M KMnO4 to test tubes 1 and 3 and add two drops of
1% FeCl3 solution to test tubes 2 and 4. Record your observations.
Results:
The clove oil was tested and confirmed as eugenol by using the Baeyer s test to test for double
bonds and the Ferric Chloride test to test for phenol group. Since cloves are 17% eugenol by weight
and the recovered eugenol was 0.23 grams, this gives a theoretical yield of 67% and a 11.5%

Opportunities and threats
Based on grocery sector, if Amazon Company keeps their food fresh their costs will increase, and
also more customers are going to buy their grocery online because a lot of people don t want to
go to the store if they are busy or if there is traffic especially when they get off from work. So if
they keep this thing in their mind and continue to do it, Amazon will be the best place to dominate
this section of business. Amazon.com would have an opportunity to open physical stores because
this company is growing every year with better annual net revenue. Also, holidays gifts and
seasonal things will get more consumers to shop online on Amazon.com, and also promotional
activities will also lead to get more consumers to shop on Amazon s website.
Some of the threats the company have are shipping cost for some books is high, and it might take
a long time to get a book, so that may divert customers to the physical bookstore because a lot of
students cannot wait a lot to get their books especially if they have an exam or homework to do.
One of the most important threats is when Amazon Company website goes down, they will lose
revenue every single minute, and that will lead them to a negative impact on the company.

16. Exploring Traumatic Brain Injury in Children Essay
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of death and disability among children and
adolescents (Yeates, 2005). The Center for Disease and Control (2010) reported an estimated 1.7
million individuals sustaining TBI annually with 51% of these injuries occurring during periods
of cerebral development. Children (0 4 years), older adolescents (15 19 years) and older adults
(65+ years) are most likely to sustain TBI (CDC, 2010). Brain injuries often lead to severe,
pervasive, and potentially irreversible impairments in one s neurological, cognitive, emotional, and

Neuroimaging scans play a cardinal role in TBI diagnosis, prognosis, and deciding what treatments
to give. CT is the preferred method of assessment on admission to determine structural damage and
to detect (developing) intracranial hematomas (Maas, Stocchetti, Bullock, 2008). The preferred test
is the computed tomography (CT) scan due to its speed, accuracy, and accessibility. The magnetic
resonance imaging (MRI) exhibits more details than CT scan. MRI scan can be more advantageous
than the CT scan as it is able to detect other TBI symptoms such as diffuse axonal injury (DAI).
Conversely, MRI is usually not the preferred method in emergency setting due to its inability to
detect brain hemorrhage and fractures, general inaccessibility, and lengthiness of the procedure.
Childhood TBI
Previous studies expressed concern in children s TBI acquisition in their developing brain. Wilde et
al (2012) explains that the neurocognitive and neurobehavioral morbidity is particularly significant
with acquired child brain injury because the injury disrupts the neural maturation and development
(Catroppa et al., 2008). Researchers hypothesized that childhood TBI potentially disrupt the
development of certain brain regions through pathological changes. Beauchamp et al (2011)
conducted a study examining two main structural differences thought to be vulnerable in childhood
TBI: the amygdala and the hippocampus. In this study, the hippocampus and the amygdala were

to damage to an immature brain (Cerebral Palsy). The injury must occur before, during, or

decreased independence. Cerebral palsy also affects body movement, reflexes, posture, balance,
and muscle control, tone, and coordination. The disease can impact fine motor skills, gross motor
skills, and oral motor functioning (Cerebral Palsy). Children with cerebral palsy may be slow in
learning to walk or talk (Bunch 34). Because of all of this, people with cerebral palsy have trouble
with speaking, eating, moving, learning, and controlling eye movements (Eurostemcell).
One of the most common side effects of cerebral palsy is spasticity. Spasticity causes increased
muscle tone and tension. Some effects of spasticity are inhibition of movement, muscle growth, and
protein synthesis, limited stretching of muscles in daily activities, muscle and joint deformities
(Cerebral Palsy). If left alone, severe spasticity can lead to permanently stiff muscles (Bunch 32).
Approximately 80 out of 100 patients with cerebral palsy have varying degrees of spasticity

While there is currently no cure for cerebral palsy, a wide variety of treatments are available

turnover which transfers managerial and production skills. However, foreign firms are more likely
to pay higher wages than domestic firms. This would limit the spillovers from labour turnover. In
addition, foreign firms are more likely to prevent technological spillovers to domestic firms to avoid
competition.
Private domestic and private foreign firms make up the private sector. Private sector is the engine
of growth. Improving the productivity of firms in the private sector involves improving
productivity of the economy thus, the economic growth. The private sector can provide more jobs
than the public sector therefore providing income for people. Government needs identify the
constraints to firm productivity. In addition, there is a need to identify the factors which could
enhance how domestic firms benefit from foreign firms and how foreign presence can improve
skills and promote entrepreneurship activities. These factors could be due to the characteristic of
the foreign firm, domestic firm or the country environment. Identifying these factors will facilitate
designing policies to enhance technological spillovers to domestic firms. However, lack of
sufficient data to identify these factors is a challenge to designing policies. In the last ten years, the
World Bank has been able to provide data on firms in countries through the World Bank Enterprise
Survey. These surveys

21. Lays Chips Ads
The whole reason advertisements get placed in magazines, or shown on television, is to bring in
more revenue from customers buying the company s new product. If Lays were to make the
same chip over and over, their customers would decrease. To make their new product attract
more customers, Lays tells their Kettle Cooked chips has 40% less fat than other potato chips.
While Lays develops a new product, the company is also investing in a new advertisement trying
to make their product popular. The main goal for any company is to make sure they sell as much
of their product as the can, but also use a unique way to catch customers attention. Lays strives to

draw attention to older men with the alcoholic beverage, meaning the ad was made to attract
older men or just guys in general. One main benefit Lays out in their ad was the real cheese and

Customers are more willing to buy a product with less artificial flavoring because then he or she

22. Teaching in Australia
Teaching: Complexities In Teacher s Work In Australia The objective of this study is to discuss
important complexities in teacher s work. According to Churchill, et al (2013) The commitment
to teaching brought to the studies and careers of teachers confirms that today s teachers and
teachers previously genuinely love to learn and have a great desire to teach. Churchill et al (2013)
states that this deep commitment to humanity and making a difference in the lives of the next
generation are among the qualities of people drawn to a career in teaching. (p.4) Some students
are able to recall the teacher that transformed their lives and as stated by an experienced teacher
and teacher educator Whatever the situation the influence teachers have on their students I long
lasting and can be profound. Good teaching makes a difference in the lives of children and young
people. (Pugach, 2009, p.1 in: Churchill, et al, 2013, p.4) The experiences of students in the
classroom result in children discovering their potential for the future and in acquiring the necessary
knowledge as well as the skills needed to follow their dreams for the future as well as in their
development of beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors toward society. (Church, et al, 2013, p.4) Churchill,

24. Archetypes In True Grit
True Grit, by Charles Portis, is a fantastic story where the main character, Mattie Ross, seeks
revenge for her father s death. One of the key character archetypes that is important to know about
Mattie is her general attitude towards anything that may cross her path: unfazed and generally not
bothered. The best example of this is how she describes the deathof her father in the first chapter.
Usually when it comes to children in adventure novels, the death of a parent or guardian serves
as a tragic backstory for the character and changes their life for the worse (e.g. Harry Potter, the
Baudelaire children, and Katniss Everdeen). All of these children faced some kind of grief
following the death of their respective parent, but the only description we receive from Mattie
concerning her father s murder is Tom Chaney raised his rifle and shot him in the forehead,
killing him instantly (16). This bleak and straight to the point attitude that Mattie characterizes
serves as a basis for her philosophy of justice. Mattie does not beat around the bush when it
comes to justice. She has a fixed view on how law should be carried out against Tom Chaney and
stops at nothing to achieve this. Put simply, Mattie wants him dead, and she wants him to know
that he is dying as a result of him killing her father. This view and interpretation of justice closely
resembles the eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth philosophy of the Code of Hammurabi where the
life of Tom Chaney must be payed for

25. The Medi An Effective Message
5.6 Buzzwords
The news media used a few key phrases that were repeated in order to perpetuate positive
understandings of the NZDF deployment of troops in Afghanistan. Messages such as NZDF
personnel are not going to war , not just fighting Taliban... , not just about a war on terror, but also
about the overall kindness and affable attitude of New Zealand reconstruction, hospitals, schools,
(He Toki, 2013). The airtime in mainstream media is increasingly limited and these kinds of
buzzword portray an effective message in increasingly shrinking time frames (Louw, 16). However,
these buzzwords extended further than the media itself, they were preserved among government
too. The Annual Report for the year ended 30th June 2002, has a whole section reiterating
peacekeeping highlighting the active, and long standing participation in international peace
operations. In this section noting, that there have been more operational commitments in the last
five years compared to the previous 20. This was a good thing (Annual Report, 2002).

26. Civil Rights Of Disabled People
According to Shakespeare, people with disabilities and nondisabled allies have worked together
over the past three decades through the disability movement which he refers to as the last liberation
movement. This movement focused national attention onto the social oppression and cultural
discourse that people with disabilities face every day in our country and the lack of regulations and
laws in place that would prevent this kind of discrimination from happening.
However, Shakespeare does allude to the fact that disabled people are distinguished from non
disabled people. Disabled people are the oppressed group, and more often than not non disabled
people and organizations are at the hand of that very oppression. Basic civil rights are what ... Show

He shares a similar stance as Shakespeare when discussing how all non disabled people are just
one illness or accident away from becoming disabled too. He even refers to non disabled people
as TAB s or temporarily able bodied. He also refers to the disabled community as an open
minority in regards to the fact that people from any economic class, race, religious background,
age, or sex can be affected by disability either themselves or within their close circle. This further
drives home the importance of an ally relationship among this community as disability is
something that is apart of so many peoples lives in one way or another. Throughout his book,
Pelka also references the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 as a shared
victory between people with disabilities and their allies. Pelka also focuses on the thematic
phrase nothing about us, without us. This slogan reflects the idea that people with disabilities
are often seen as someone to pity and problems to fix, yet so many of the basic decisions in their
lives have been made for them, ie, schooling, working, care, where they will live, etc. It was
through all the advocacy that people with disabilities had for themselves that they were able to

Do you think that physical power is as important as mental and physical capability? After reading

and Why We Run, mental and physical power are better together because in order to succeed in any
sportan athlete needs to have that mental capability to tell yourself that you can do it or strategize
quickly. But they also have to have the physical capability in order to execute that plan or their

My first reason is, throughout reading What Could Be Better Than A Touchdown? you can easily

also need a means to identify the performance and cost of this wellness program. Just as
organizations have used the fundamental concepts of cost measurement and recognition to provide

Historical programs have proven that without proper performance measurements and being

A company wellness program must have performance measures system that will monitor both the
operating results and the multiple performance measurements that are needed to identify the

The human brain has been largely a topic of discussion in recent decades, so much so that the
1990s became known as the Decade of the Brain . This is due to the extensive amount of research
able to be conducted due to advancing technology; however there still remains debate on many
aspects of thought, cognition, and overall consciousness that we see as being alive and human.
Though many answers remain shrouded in mystery, scientists are able to deduce one piece of
important information: neurotransmitters play a vital role in emotions and mood felt from person
to person. These chemicals, when put blatantly, are responsible for how we feel and think on a
daily basis. Essentially these neurotransmitters define who we are as individuals because they give
the ability to feel and react. This process is not always a perfect science at times though, and as
researchers are finding out, that these immensely important chemicals can also cause harm

Every individual will undergo many journeys throughout their lifetime without journeys, they

Migrant Hostel (1975) are two texts that convey the transformative, unstable, segregative and
communicative nature of journeys.

38. Ramjet Engine Advantages And Disadvantages
These turbines are connected to the compressor and also the fan. So basically when turbines rotate,
the compressor and the fan also rotate. What happens is that the airflow coming from the
combustion chamber makes the turbines rotate and as the turbines rotate, they also make the fan
and the compressor spin. Finally the gases exit through the nozzle. So a turbofangets some of its
thrust from the core of the engine while some of its thrust from the fan. The ratio of the air that
goes around the engine to the air that goes from inside the core is called the bypass ratio.

Light in weight.
Examples
Examples of aircrafts that use ramjet engines are SR 72 and X 15.
Scramjet Engine
Scramjet stands for Supersonic Combustion Ramjet.
It works pretty much like the ramjet engine. It takes in air through air inlet but instead of slowing it
down to subsonic speed, it compresses the air to a supersonic speed. After compression, the air is
combusted but instead of using normal jet fuel like other engine, the scramjet engine uses hydrogen
for combustion. After combustion, the air is let out through the exhaust. The increase in air s
temperature and pressure, causes acceleration in the aircraft and thrusts it forward.
The scramjet engine starts working once it reaches the speed Mach 5. The scramjet engine works
at very high speeds and it can achieve extremely high speeds.

39. Alcoholism in Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire
Alcoholism s in A Streetcar Named Desire There is a great deal of alcoholism in the play.
Blanche DuBois drinks often and drinks in excess. Alcohol abuse further distinguishes Blanche s
character because in the 1940s, it was atypical for women to drink so much, and even more rare
for women to be so publically alcoholic as Blanche. Those behaviors were stereotypically reserved
for women. Blanche is very much aware of her problems and her social isolation. She uses her
alcoholismas a way to escape from facing herself directly as well as to escape from other aspects of
her reality that she perceives too difficult to bear or change.
One of the memorable lines from the play of Blanche s is: Whoever you are, I ve always
depended on the kindness of strangers. Blanche could be using the world kindness in an ironic
way; from the kind of treatment Blanche desires and receives, it is likely that she has been
treated the same and worse from other men (and women). Another take on the word kindness in
that famous line is that perhaps she must really depend on strangers to be kind because her
friends and family do not show her kindness. Blanche drinks because of how pessimistically she
perceives herself and perceives her life. She fears and wishes to forget her past, so she drinks in the
present, but drinks to the point where she extinguishes any chance for her future.

40. Informative Speech On Conversion Therapy
Speech Title:
Topic: Conversion therapy
General Purpose: To persuade
Specific Purpose: I want the audience to avoid organizations that support the use of conversion
therapy and to understand the pseudoscientific and harmful nature of such a practice.
Thesis: Conversion therapy receives little support from the American psychiatric community due to
a lack of evidence confirming its supposed effectivity and the measurable damage it causes to the
individuals subjected to its outdated practices.
Action Step: I want the audience to avoid organizations that promote the use of conversion therapy
to alter a person s sexual orientation.
I.Introduction
a.For those of you who are straight, I want you to know that your feelings are signs of repressed
childhood traumas. Now, I want you all to put aside your heterosexual tendencies and let your true
same sex attractions take hold.
b.That was a simplified example of exercises used in conversion therapy, also known as reparative
therapy. According to the Just the Facts Coalition, conversion (reparative) therapy is therapy
counseling and psychotherapy aimed at eliminating or suppressing homosexuality. (Just the Facts
Coalition, 2008)
i.People who claim to have successfully altered their sexual orientation often identify themselves
as ex gays. ii. Ex gays who retract their claims of success and reunite with the LGBTQ+
community are popularly known as ex ex gays.
c.Thankfully, I have never been forced to receive conversion

41. The Schlieffen Plan
The Schlieffen Plan The Schlieffen plan was a plan created by General Count Alfred von
Schlieffen in 11903 for the German Army, at the request of Kaiser Wilhelm II. The Schlieffen Plan
was an operational plan for an attack on France and Russia. Schlieffen advised the Kaiser that the
plan should be implemented by 1916, as Germany would be strong enough for a victory by then.
The final version of The Plan was built around classic military strategy. Thirty four divisions,
supported by heavy artillery, would invade Belgium, advance an attack on France from the northern
Ardennes into the city of Lille. Schlieffen expected the Belgians not to resist, to simply let them
pass through, or, if they fought, to be quickly defeated. A smaller force

An Empirical Analysis of Trends in Psychology
By Richard W. Robins, Samuel D. Gosling and Kenneth H. Craik
Presented by: Cassandra Brown

I.Research Question or Problem
The journal article question is clearly stated. The question asks whether the behaviourist, the
psychoanalytic, the cognitive, or the neuroscientific perspective is most intellectually significant
and most prominent in psychology today (Robins, Goling, amp; Craik, 1999, p. 117).
II. Introduction
The introduction presents differing contentions regarding which school of psychology is most
prominent. Five references have been cited in the introduction. It is ... Show more content on

Articles regarding the psychoanalytic and neuroscientific perspective, however, were essentially
non existent throughout the studied period. Authors provided graphs and tables in order to
demonstrate their findings over time for each index (Robins, Gosling, amp; Craik, 1999, p.121 126).
V.Discussion/Conclusions
Due to their compelling findings, the authors were able to construct several conclusions. Firstly,
psychoanalytic journals, dissertations, and flagship articles have not been in the spotlight of
mainstream psychology for the past several decades (Robins, Gosling, amp; Craik, 1999, p.123,
124). Secondly, with the focus currently on cognitive psychology, behavioural psychology has and
continues to subside in scientific psychology (Robins, Gosling, amp; Craik, 1999, p.124).
Moreover, the authors state that one reason cognitive psychology is transcending behavioural
psychology is due to the immeasurable role of computers in modern society. For example, thanks to
computers, considerable changes have taken place in regards to scientists understanding of
memory, information processing, etc (Robins, Gosling, amp; Craik, 1999, p.124). Lastly,
mainstream psychology does not yet recognize neuropsychology; however, there is an obvious
increase in popularity that is underway. Authors recommend further research to explore the growing
prominence

Have you ever experienced the trouble of a with the spring of your garage door? Stressful right?
In every home a garage door is a very vital part of the house. It has many uses. Some people store
their tools and other materials in the garage. In case the garage door experiences problems their
stuff is left in danger of burglars. Sometimes the doors fail to function until you cannot access
your car from the garage. A door to the garage is not only a security tool for the house, it is like
another front door. Pets and kids like going into the house through the front door. They prefer
getting in the house through the garage door more than the front door. A garage door has over

The two main actions that the United States government issued towards the Plains Indians were
the Homestead Act and the Dawes Act. The Homestead Act correlated with the trend of
Manifest Destiny and encouraged settlers to migrate west. The Homestead Act encouraged
western migration by providing 160 acres of public land. In exchange, homesteaders paid a
small filing fee and were required to complete five years of continuous residence before
receiving ownership of the land. After six months of residency, homesteaders also had the option
of purchasing the land from the government for roughly $1.25 per acre. (Primary Documents in
American History) The land that the government was distributing belonged to various tribes of
the Plains Indians. By having the Homestead Act in effect and encouraging settlers to migrate
west, Plains Indians were forced into reservations. The real impact of Manifest Destiny was that
it sent many settlers west, without realizing that the settlers were taking land from the Indians.
The Indians that lived in the reservations had just enough food to keep their population alive, as
well as living in unsanitary conditions with bacteria and diseases everywhere. The two options
that the Indians had was to either live in the reservations with little to no food or to face
genocide. Some Indian tribes tried to make amends with American troops who ushered the
natives to reservations, but some American troops turned on the Indians. One incident of the
American troops killing Indians was the Nez Perce war. This war was over a conflict of land and
how some US troops did not agree on the settlement of the land. The war resulted in over 100
casualties towards the Indians and was stated as a genocide of and Indian tribe. The second act that
was passed by the United States government was the Dawes Act. The Dawes Act authorized the

47. The Pros And Cons Of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
Scientific advancements have the potential to be beneficial as well as detrimental. Whether it is
good or bad depends on numerous factors, such as the motive for the creation. In Ethics and the
New Genetics, by the Dalai Lama, he discusses how these scientific advancements can affect us on
social, political and ethical levels. He believes that while new technology can be beneficial, such as
for medical purposes, the motivation behind these creations is what can cause them to be harmful.
While new technology can be advantageous in humandevelopment and survival, it also has
consequences such as causing social and economic instability. Unmanned aerial vehicles,
commonly known as drones, initially were built to reduce casualties in a war, but the advantages
also carry risk. These war drones would minimize the causality of soldiers in combat by removing
them from the battlefield and replacing them with these unmanned flying vehicles. However, their
use has not always been beneficial. For instance, the use of these war drones has resulted in a
number of civilian... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By having the organ made from the patient s cell reduces the chance of that patient s body
rejecting the organ. This will also eliminate the need of a donor. Though these are all great
advantages of therapeutic cloning it has numerous disadvantages. Scientists cannot prove this
method to be completely safe for a patient. Some patients have had these cells that were made
from this process mutate into cancer cells. The cost for this is also extremely high so it is not
available to a large group of the population. While reproductive cloning of a human has not been
successful yet, there are some concerns surrounding that. As the Dalai Lama asked in his essay,

Stephen King is a man of many talents and personalities; not only is he able to scare his readers
immensely, he is also able to make them laugh. I chose a passage from Stephen King s On Writing
for this assignment; the passage stuck in my mind for a long time after I finished the book. His
writing style is unique compared to the other autobiographies I have read over the years.
Everything that a person writes has a meaning or purpose whether it s a letter or an essay and
voice, tone, and style play a very important part in how the reader views the piece of writing. King
manipulates the rules of writing in order to emphasize the meaning of the passage, which is to

Health is determined by some social conditions such as people s work, area of birth, living and
working environment. it also includes housing, education, built environment, financial security, and
the health system. The world health organisation (WHO) stated that the above conditions are
influenced by some very powerful forces which include social policies, economic policy, and
political instances.
However, the term social determinants are nowadays greatly perceived as the responsibility of
large amount of unwarranted health imbalance. While some imbalances are the consequence of

50. Ticks Research Papers
Ticks are very important and harmful blood sucking external parasites of mammals, birds and
reptiles throughout the woria (Furman and Loomis, 1984). The medical and economic
importance of ticks had long been recognized due to their ability to transmit diseases to humans
and animals. Ticks belong to phylum, Aarthropoda and make up the largest collection of
creatures in order Acarina. They are divided into two groups: soft ticks (Argasidae) and hard ticks
(Ixodidae). Hard ticks feed for extended periods of time on their hosts, varying from several days to
weeks, depending on factors like life stage, host type, and species of tick. The outside surface of
hard ticks actually grows to accommodate the large volume of blood ingested which in adult ticks,
may be anywhere from 200 to 600 times their unfed body weight (Sonenshine, 1991).... Show more

51. Political Tensions Between The Islamic 30 Years War
As they struggle to understand the different dimensions of the geo political tensions between the
Islamic republic of Iran and Sunni Saudi Arabia a rivalry that has some sectarian elements to it,
western security experts often resort to use of such terms like Islam s ancient blood feud and
the Islamic 30 years war . Useful though those terms may be and understandable as they are
when the Middle East is viewed with a western lense, they fail to accurately capture the ground
reality. The shiat ali, or party of Ali split off from mainstream Islam after the tragic (to all sects)

(Delong Bas 2004, page 23). Lastly, the states erected by the Western powers on the ruins of the
Ottoman empire in the Middle East, such as Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon have gone through a period of
weakening due to the Arab spring and other recent events. In the power struggle that has ensued in
those countries, Iran and Saudi Arabia are currently involved in a power struggle, in cahoots with
their proxies, for regional supremacy. The modern processes of state formation and rise of
nationalism ( Halliday, page 26) are the main forces driving animosity between Islamic republic of
Iran and sunni Saudi Arabia. National leaders often resort to narratives and myths to rouse
nationalist sentiment when they realise the need to rationalize their legitimacy in the state building
process. When the regimes try to position themselves as saviours of particular brand of a religion,
an explosive element is added to the narrative which can heighten geo political tensions ( Halliday
2000, page 29).
During the late 18th century, the Al Saud family, which ruled a remote kingdom of the Arabian
peninsula came into an agreement with Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab. As part of their alliance,
the Al Saud family agreed to be the patron and military spearhead of Wahhabism ( Delong Bas,

The Identity of Black Women in the Post Bellum Period 1865 1885
Throughout history, the black woman has always had a multitude of responsibilities thrust upon her
shoulders. This was never truer than for southern black women in the period between 1865 and
1885. In this span of twenty years, these women were responsible for their children, their husbands,
supporting their families, their fight for freedom as black citizens and as women, their sexual
freedom, and various other issues that impacted their lives. All of these aspects of the black woman
s life defined who she was. Each of her experiences and battles shaped the life that she lived, and

One of the first things that the black woman attempted, after gaining her freedom, was to obtain
a job. These women learned quickly, however, that they would not be equals just because they
were now free. The job opportunities available to black women, like many other aspects of their
lives, would be of much less quality than the jobs offered to the rest of the population. They
would be low paying, involve extended hours, and would put them in constant danger; black
women would have to negotiate the literal rough terrain of Atlanta and the social consequences it
imposed on their everyday lives as they struggled to earn a living for their families and searched
for peace of mind. They would have to persevere in their quest to work and support their household.
After the Civil War, all black citizens of the Unites States were allegedly free. The thirteenth
amendment banning slavery had been passed and the reconstruction of the South was moving
along swiftly. This promised freedom, however, was far from what was expected. There were
many laws and forces at work to keep blacks in some type of involuntary servitude. Some of the
laws that limited black freedom included making it a crime to hire away a worker who had been
under contract with a different employer (so called enticement laws), various contract enforcement
statutes that bound the black worker to their employer, and vagrancy statutes in which unemployed

54. Late Fragment By Raymond Carver Analysis
Poetry; a gift from the gods of literature, blessing all those that read it with intellect and
awareness of very important issues or even a fun piece of writing to indulge in. Throughout
history, many influential writers have made an impact on society with their writing. Raymond
Carver, an award winning writer, wrote many poems and stories throughout his career that
shaped writing for many other poets. Carver was born into a family of poverty and from a
young age, he did not have an ideal relationship with his parents due to the strong use of alcohol
by his father. Later on in his life, Carver became an alcoholic and tried to distance himself from
everyone around him and a career in life. It was very clear that he was going down a very negative
path; Carver got into a toxic marriage, was diagnosed with cancer, was hospitalized for his
drinking problems many times and was going to die. Once he moved to California and found his
passion for literature, his whole life seemed to have turned around. He began to feel happier, quit
drinking, divorced his first wife and married the love of his life, Tess Gallagher. Carver typically
writes stories, but also poems based on his life experiences. In Raymond Carvers Late Fragment, a
heavily enforced message is that it is not necessary to dwell on the smaller things in life because
in the end it s all up to how we feel we lived life. Carver s use of diction throughout the poem helps
to illustrate how we should live our life to the
