The document discusses leukocyte intravascular crawling, which is an important step in leukocyte recruitment after firm adhesion and before transmigration. During crawling, leukocytes migrate laterally along the endothelium at a speed of 5-20um/min. This movement allows leukocytes to search for suitable sites for endothelial crossing. Crawling relies on integrins such as MAC-1, LFA-1, VLA-4, and α4β7 to provide resistance against shear blood flow. LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like

Changes in vegetation cover refer to variations in the distribution, composition, and overall
structure of plant communities across different temporal and spatial scales. These changes can
occur natural.

2. An Analysis Of Laundrette, By Liz Lochhead
The human race is a species built by imagination and curiosity, which has helped some, but left
many in the dust. Scottish poet Liz Lochhead explores this concept in her poem Laundrette as well
as in many of her other poems. Lochhead accesses the imagination of the reader in order for them to
recognise their instinctive curiosity and need to construct their own realities, which is achieved
through her use of symbolism, literary devices, and structure. Liz Lochhead presents this poem in
an extremely symbolic nature, focussing on the more harsh and negative stereotypes of a laundrette
and its patrons, while also bringing the reader into the poem, thus causing them to reflect more on
themselves. The reader is invited to some extent into the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the dark shoves a man into the laundrette, which shows how the man is unhappy
about entering the Laundrette, which the reader can easily imagine. The reader then begins to ask
themselves questions and visualise the reason why the man is visiting the laundrette, and why he
is so unhappy to be there. This innate curiosity which is alive in all people is, to some extent,
what makes this poem so interesting. The personification of the washing machine which sobs
could represent the harsh and difficult lives which the patrons of the laundrette lead, thus the
reader is left with the mental image of a sad and aching machine, causing them to rethink their
own lives. The phrase our own colours whirl can be both examined on a literal level and a
figurative level. On a literal level, this phrase describes clothes whirling around a washing
machine, but on a figurative level could also show that people are watching the other people,
therefore the colours or personas of these occupants whirl together and blend with one another,
including different size, sex, race, and social

3. Black Elk Is A Native American Spiritual Leader Of The...
Black Elk Speaks is a translated Autobiography of a verbal account from Nicholas Black Elk, who
was a Native American spiritual leader of the Lakota tribe during the period of westward expansion
by the United States. His account reveals to the audience many different aspects of life for the
Lakota people during the turbulent transition from their traditional nomadic tribal to a reservation
culture. Through Black Elks life story, there are a plethora of small hints and glimpses of their
world, in how it functions and how their culture governs the choices that they make in their lives.
The best example that Black Elk provides the audience with, is the vision that he describes in
Chapter 3, The Great Vision (17 36). This Vision occurs when Black Elk is a young person of
the age of nine. The events preceding the vision describes his life of that time, until he seems to
fall severely ill from some unknown disease, to the point that he requires the assistance of a
pony drag in order to remain with the tribe as they travel from location to location. In this state
he is given a vision from the forces that control the world. Various images, figures and forces lead
Black Elk along a journey of discovery, where the fate of his life, the Lakota people and gifts are
presented to him. This great vision remains the driving force behind Black Elk s life for the
remainder of the book.
The question arises; What makes this vision so important for Black Elk and the narrative of the
book?

It takes hard work, grit, and dedication to be the best. That is exactly what the Philadelphia
Eagles have done over the last 18 years and it is truly incredible. Over the last 18 years the eagles
have won 8 NFC East conference along with a superbowl win in the previous 2017 season. The

as well as QBR before his season getting cut short due to a torn ACL. The eagles were riding
high through the first thirteen weeks of the season until this unforeseen tragedy occured. But to
be the best you must have the next man up personality in order to achieve greatness, that is
exactly what QB 2, Nick Foles did. He expected to see no playing time during the season due to
Carson s MVP campaign year. But the seasoned vet was brought in to backup Carson Wentz at
the beginning of the season due to the fact that the Eagles front office knew Nick would be
ready if called upon. It was week 13, the Eagles were down two touchdowns, but Carson stayed
relentless. The ball was near Seattle s 15 yard line and Carson went with a head full of steam to the
endzone only to be met by a Middle Linebacker twice his size. After being carted off the field

6. What Role Does Matter Play In Making Social Worlds Secure
What role does matter play in making social worlds secure or insecure? Illustrate your answer with
reference to any two chapters from Security: Sociology and Social Worlds
Within the natural world security is very fundamental to survival and living things gravitate
towards it. Basic needs such as air, food, water, disease avoidance and shelter from the elements
are vital. Within the social world like the natural it forms the basis to which people and society can
function well, and explains why security is of primary concern through all spheres of said society.
This assignment seeks to look at the role matter plays in making social worlds secure or insecure.
This will be done by uncovering that which is often taken for granted about the role materiality
plays in the social world through theories, concepts and examples of security in various settings
such as the individual, the home, the city and other parts of society.
Matter is often defined as mass that can be physically observed by the senses, it can be measured
scientifically and is tangible , it could be said the material world unlike aspects of social worlds
is less abstract and easier to define, for example a building which comprises of bricks, wood,
metal and other materials built into a specific shape compared to a community which can relate to

7. Why Is Racism Wrong
Racism is the belief that a specific race is superior or inferior to another, that a person s social
and moral traits are predetermined by his or her inborn biological characteristics. Racism can also
be defined as the belief that some races are superior to others. This definition is not sufficient to
describe what racismtruly is. For example, people who are racist do not like other races such as
their skin color, language, traditions, and place of birth or any aspect that supposedly reveals
the basic nature of that person. Long ago in America, racism was a very serious and immoral
problem, and it is very much a problem in today s society, as it was back then but on a dissimilar
level. The African Americans, labeled as Blacks, were slaves to white men. The slaves were
disregarded, and beaten and insulted badly. Thus, sparked the beginning of a war and civil rights
movements, all in attempts to resolve this problem. Although there is no flawless way to solve
racism and it is evident that racism will always exist, what can be done nevertheless, is to limit its
magnitude as much as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What continues racism is unawareness. A person may be raised doing a certain thing their whole
lives and everyone else around them is doing the same thing. It seems right to them, even if it
seems morally wrong to another individual that does not partake in same view on life. A group of
people will not see anything erroneous with their actions because they see their actions as the
truth. The only way to stop this ignorance is through education and awareness of their actions and
the resulting repercussions. A person s ignorance needs to be educated because it will continue to
drive racism. People who have been raised uninformed may be fed with negative stereotypes about
other races, thus increasing the chances of racism. For an example, parents show their children
negative stereotypes in which they will follow as they grow

8. Analysis Of Fernand Leger s The Divers
With most of the 20 elements and principles evident in the painting The Divers (Red and Black)
by Fernand Leger, we can achieve a better understanding and cohesiveness of this piece.
Additionally, alongside with his other paintings, the medium used for this painting was also oil on
canvas. In this painting, Leger incorporates a specific style called Cubismand incorporates a strong
simple imagery. The artist s personal style consists of bold use of colorwhile combining his art as
something that everyone can enjoy. A brief formal analysis of this painting will show us how he
used the main principle of emphasis to showcase the characteristics of the humanbody progressing
in space. In order to demonstrate these specific characteristics, Leger incorporates many
different types of elements into this piece. In this painting, color plays an important role. The
shapes of the blue squares contrast altogether with the other shapes and also, with the mutated
beige background. Leger uses numerous colors such as the neon yellow, red, blue, black, and
green in order to reveal that the colors are free and therefore, these colors exist in space. As
mentioned earlier, this painting included a variety of different shapes; there are two different
types of shape that can be seen in this painting. The first type is geometric or regular shapes such
as the squares, circles, and rectangles. The second, on the other hand, are organic and freeform
shapes such as the feet, hands, and face. Next, Leger incorporates many lines throughout this
portrait. From curved lines to a single horizontal line, Leger includes each different type to
develop a sense of movement, or rhythm. The curved lines makes the viewer s eyes circle
around the piece to further realize the symbolism. For space, Leger leaves many of the corner as
negative space. However, the corners of this painting are not the only ones Leger leaves as space.
Because the shapes and colors are kept simple, there s also quite a series of distance between the
shapes even throughout the whole entire painting. Again, because of the simplicity of the shapes,
even the texture of this painting can be seen as smooth. The painting does not involve any harsh or
rugged lines, and is

Analysis of Maus I and II by Art Spiegelman Maus, by Art Spiegelman, shows the trials and
tribulations that the main character, Vladek, and his companions suffered during the Holocaust.
No matter the situation, Vladek rises up to the challenge, and does the only thing he can do: live.
For the Jewish people during that time surviving was a challenge and for those that actually
survived was pure luck. Throughout Maus we find this survival in the portrayal of Vladek
Spiegelman; father of the author. Vladek resourcefulness helps him survive because of his
knowledge of different languages, skills to work on anything, and initiative to make trades with

After he was released as a prisoner of war, he traded clothes with Ilzecki (Maus I, 77). When that

In Srodula, he worked in a shoe shop. In Auschwitz, he worked as both a tin man and a

opportunity to show that he could work on that because he just needed help on how to do it and
after that he was able to do it right, this is demonstrated in the panels that Spiegelman presents
on page 47 of Maus II. After a while, on page 60 of Maus II, he gets the job of the shoemaker
because the last one was gone because the S.S wanted him for something. Also he proves that he
has been a shoemaker for a long time, more than being a tin man, because he proves to the Kapo
that he can fix the shoes. And, after the war, he sold stockings in Sweden (Maus II, 125 126).
The final aspect of Vladek s resourcefulness that helped him to survive the war was his ability to
initiate trade with others. After Vladek s family was caught hiding from the guards in Srodula, he
bribed his cousin to help himself and Anja escape (Maus I, 114 115).

10. The Case Of Jonbenet Ramsey
To serve and protect, isn t that the motto of many law enforcement agencies and what we learn in
beginning criminal justice classes to create a better justice system? In the case of JonBenet
Ramsey, there were many factors in the case that wasn t handed properly which may have led to
the unsolved case. Should the policeor prosecutors be blamed for not being able to solve the case?
Do crimes go unpunished each day and finally what responsibility do the police and others hold
in cases? These are all questions we must answer to better understand how our justice system
works and the efficiency level of the members of our government. I personally believe in holding
the police and the entire justice system to a higher standard than other organizations. When
looking at the information from the article, I believe there is a large amount of blame to be
placed on a multitude of people for the justice s system incapability of solving the case. To begin
with I think we must look at the father, of JonBenet. He stated, Jon Ramsey, picked up and
moved his daughter s body from the storeroom where he found her (Lyman, 2010, p.9). Now,
many may argue that this is okay to move the body but in reality this simple movement of the
body may have tampered with a vital piece of evidence allowing the killer to remain at large. On
a professional level the police and investigation team are at fault as well. It the article it is
mentioned that the Police did not search for any evidence of the

The Terri Schiavo s Case Analysis When a patient is unable to make decisions for himself or
herself, their caregivers and those who know them are appointed to make the decisions based on
what the patient would have wanted. This is called surrogate decision making. According to the
article Terri Schiavo and End of Life Decisions when surrogate decision makers and caregivers
cannot agree upon what that choice would have been, they may turn to the courts to determine
either what the now incapacitated patient would have chosen or who is best suited to choose as
the patient would have (Mathes, 2005) In 1990 Terri Schiavo suffered cardiac arrest at age 27, due

The story of Terri brings about many questions that represent ethical, moral and legal issues.
Such issues include her quality of life, best interest, the fact that Terri had no living will, and of
course, family conflict. If I had to make the decision on what to do in Terri Schaivo s case I
would do what Michael Schiavo had done, I would fight to have the feeding tube removed. I
believe that if a person has no quality of life and is in a PVS state, they have no feelings, they
feel no pain, and they are not aware of their surroundings. According to the article Terri Schiavo
and End of Life Decisions Terri could not continue both to be alive and be free from invasive
medical procedures (Mathes, 2005) I feel keeping them alive is unfair to them and to their loved
ones. I also believe that the surrogate decision maker should follow the best interest standard,
which is, given the medical facts and prognosis, make decisions that would be in the best
interests of the patient. (Hook Mueller, 2005) There was a lot of evidence and proof from the
doctors in regards to the fact that Terri was not going to get better, there were no medical
interventions left that could help her. Prolonging treatment for Terri would not have changed her
quality of life or made it better. In my opinion, Michael Schiavo acted properly as a surrogate
decision maker because first of all, he followed her previously spoken wishes and views and,
second of all, he acted in her

Since there are many stores, like McDonald s and Starbucks that are also providing all kinds of
healthy smoothies with a price that is similar to Jamba Juice s, buyers actually will not face high

Product is Undifferentiated
Even though Jamba Juice advertizes that its products are healthy, low in calories and rich in
vitamins, many other stores also provide the similar smoothies or fast foods. This indicates that
Jamba Juice s products are not differentiated. Consumers can still find products in other stores that
are familiar to Jamba Juice s, which enhances the power of buyers.
Power of suppliers
For restaurant retailers, the power of suppliers is high. This can be indicated by lack of substitute
produces and low importance of restaurants as buyers.
Availability of Substitutes
Although Jamba Juice demands a large amount of agricultural commodities to help produce the
healthy and organic smoothies, these commodities are limited. There are not other substitutes can
replace these agricultural commodities to make smoothies as healthy as the organic raw materials.

Most people have a different perception of what would be considered a popular cultural artifact

most of those artifacts are just fads that last a year or two and then they are forgotten. Pet rock,

The Golden Gate Bridge
Since the dawn of time, man has had an inherent need to get to the other side. Rivers, canyons,
and impassable trails have always hindered the migration of man, leaving him the choice to
continue no further, or to build a bridge and get over it. The earliest bridges were made of simple
materials such as stone, or even a fallen log. Regardless of the material, natural bridges allowed
man to explore the other side. However, man has never been satisfied with what nature gives him.
Over time, man developed the ability to construct his own bridges in order to create a shortcut
across an otherwise impassable obstacle. The first man made bridges consisted of wooden beams or

The Golden Gate Bridge broke span records and set new safety standards in the bridge building
community. Although architects and engineers designed a safe structure, various improvements
such as a lighter deck and reinforced steel trusses have been added over the years. The Golden
Gate Bridge, in all its glory, is a true structural wonder for both its size and artistic design.
Although actual construction began in January of 1933, the idea for the Golden Gate Bridge
began back in 1872. At that time, railroad entrepreneur Charles Crocker envisioned bridging the
gap across the entrance to San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean. The idea was deemed
unfeasible at the time and was put to rest until 1916, when James Wilkins, a newspaper editor,
began to heavily promote the idea of building a bridge across the Golden Gate Strait. This time
the proposal caught the attention of various bridge engineers in the area. The initial response was
that the bridge would be difficult to build and cost in excess of 100 million dollars. Joseph
Baermann Strauss stepped in with his proposal that, not only could the bridge be built, but
construction would cost less than thirty million dollars. He even believed that tolls would soon
pay for the expenses. On June 28, 1921 Strauss submitted his plan to build the Golden Gate Bridge
for twenty seven million dollars. While the City of San Francisco needed the bridge to
accommodate the rapid population boom, it lacked the funds to

middle class surviving or dying out. The first article I will address was in The New York Times,
written by Steven Pearlstein. It was a bit difficult to find strong arguments in this article
supporting his belief of the middle class surviving. However, there are a few things mentioned in
the article that did make a good point. Pearlstein (2007) wrote, $44,500 is reported the median

statement made in the article is, economic contentment derives not from what they have but from
how it compares with what everyone else has (Pearlstein, 2007). This economy has and is
undoubtedly concerned in what they do and do not have, compared to the Jones s . In Rose s

Relationships, Love, Support, or Dependency?
The relationship between women and men might be complicated for some while sometimes even a

Women and men fight in relationships; fight for more independence, fight to prove their worthiness
and keep forgetting that love is not a fight but a mutual support. Both men and women have
strengths and skills that are important for a relationship and growth. We need to ensure that both

24. The Importance Of Genetic Transformation
Genetic transformation is when an organism is given genes that it is able to express from the
foreign DNA (Weedman 111). Genetic transformation is used widely today, especially in
agriculture where organisms are genetically altered to meet the food demands from corns color to
squash size. When transferring genes you need a competent cell which is the cell that is going to
express the foreign DNA(Weedman 111). There are three ways to transfer DNA, transformation
where the competent cell takes DNA from the surrounding environment, conjugation where two
bacteriajoin and transfer DNA, and then there is transduction where virus or vector carries DNA
from a foreign organism to another (hammiverse.com...na). In our experiment we used transduction,
using a vector. There are three ways to make the competent cell permeable. There is projectile
bombardment when a genegun is used to coat the competent cell with DNA, there is
electroporation when electric pulses are used to increase permeability and then there is heat shock
when you rapidly change the temperature of the environment the competent cell is in from low to
high temperatures making the permeability of the cell membrane more profound (Weedman 111).
We used the heat shock method in our experiment to increase the permeability of E.coli. In the
case of our experiment the competent cell is E.coli. E.coli is known for its ability of horizontal

The Bible reports the emergence of The Giants as the result of the sexual relationship between
women (daughters of men) and guardian angels (children of God) and from this relationship there
would have been hybrid beings of high stature and perversity never seen on the Face of the earth.
These are the Nephilins, the giants of biblical accounts.
How did they really come about? Who were the children of God? The search for these answers
has always led theologians of various epochs to try to understand this fact and supposed
relationship between angelic beings endowed with purely carnal desires and taken by
voluptuousness, and women descended from a genealogy that abandoned the fear of God, as is the

The giants are the result of a union between two species, beings that have been genetically altered
due to the compatibility between human women and the Nephilins. In the Bible we can identify
some of the descendants of the Nephilins on earth because they were former rulers, as the book
of Numbers 13:33 And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and
we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight .
The Book of I Enoch
In the book of I Enoch, as well as in the book of the Jubilees, testament of Rubem and Baruch, are
described several events that led God to determine the end of humanity, for those had been so
rebellious against the sovereignty of God that the end had come for them.
In this account of I Enoch, angelic beings, the Guardian angels, here nominated as Watchers, who

Working with other agencies and countries, the United States responds to world health problems
and monitors the spread of potentially dangerous diseases. U.S. diplomats work with other nations
and through multilateral institutions to help improve the lives of people everywhere ( How does
the US department of State engage with other Countries? ). The United States reaches out to other
countries as well, even if they cannot let a certain number of immigrants into the country.
Providing particular countries with helpful organizations from the United States, is an influential
way to start preventing illegal immigration. If the United States flourish well there should not be
an excuse to not help provide for people around the world. It does not mean illegal immigrants
have to come to our country. Helpful organizations demonstrate that America does care about
violence around the world and is making an effort to prevent violence, poverty, and hunger in
other countries. You may ask the question, What if they need to provide for their family? This is a
controversial topic throughout the world. A solution would be for them to apply for a visa right
when they are eligible. The longer they wait, the longer they could be struggling. Some women in
foreign countries have children at an early age and are stuck in a situation they cannot handle.
These countries should be more informed about how this can affect their future at such a young
age. If these women know they will not be able to

28. Them ! Movie Analysis
As the final shots of the second World War were dealt, the first shots of the Cold War were fired.
After World War II, America was prosperous. They had not experienced a significant postwar
recession, nor were the masses unemployed. The United States had experienced extraordinary
economic growth in the years following the war.Despite the prosperity and growth experienced that
succeeded the war, the fear of Communism plagued the minds of Americans. Americans became
increasingly worried about the spread of Communism, and the threat of Communism destroying the
lives and values of the American people. They saw it as a threat to Democracy itself, and the fear,
the paranoia experienced by the Americans was expressed in pop culture.

The mere thought of a nuclear event or a nuclear attack on the united States was enough to scare the
entire country, but mutants and strange creatures as a result of it was over the edge. It was not
much a fear of the monsters themselves and their grotesque and gigantic appearances, but what
they represented in the films. Take the film Them! for example. Ants exposed to radiations as a
result of nuclear testing, has turned them into gigantic, mutated ants that are terrorizing the
people of New Mexico. The giant mutant ants are used in the film to not only show the dangers
of nuclear war, but to portray the soviets in a new way. In the film, Dr.Medford refers to ants in
general as savage, ruthless, and courageous fighters . By labeling the ants as savage and almost
barbaric creatures, the same could be said about the Soviets at the time. The Soviets were seen as
hard, and crude like the ants in the film, who attacked and killed innocent people.By looking at the
poster for the film, we can see the correlation between ants and Communists. The poster features a
frightened women in the jaws of a mutant ant screaming kill one and two more take its place! .
Both the giant ants and the soviets were seen to operate as a hydra. It didn t matter if you killed one
breast or one communist, because when one dies two more will replace it. The Soviets, like the
ants, had strength in numbers, a greater population that the Americans. At the end of the film
Them! they find the ant s den and throw gas in the hole and attempt to destroy and kill all the ants
living in the den. When they jump down into the cavern, they have discovered that two queen ants
have escaped, and traveled to California to create a new colony. Again, this could be characterized
similarly to the theme of the underground mentioned above, but it goes somewhat deeper than that.

29. Characteristics Of The Horseshoe Crab
Introduction: Limulus polyphemus, the horseshoe crab, inhabits shallow brackish marine
environments ranging from the Atlantic Ocean along the North American coastline to the Gulf
coasts of the United states and from the East coast of Mexico to the Yucatan Peninsula (Walls,
Elizabeth). There are three other species of the horseshoe crab worldwide: Tachypleus tridentatus,
Tachypleus gigas, and Carconoscorpinus rotundicauda that closely resemble Limulus in structure
and habits, ranging from the Indian ocean to the Pacific Ocean along the coasts of Asia (National
Wildlife Federation).
The horseshoe crab is known to be one of the oldest living fossils ; which means that this organism
s morphology has essentially not changed from fossils found from earlier geologic times, around
250 million years ago (Noel Chartier). Based on the fact that the morphology has not changed in so
long it can be assumed that the horseshoe crab has not had to adapt to changing environments and
has been able to withstand a changing environment. Due to the statement regarding the oldest living
fossils, one can hypothesize that fossil records will show evidence that fossils of extinct creatures
look nearly identical to the creatures that are still living today (Noel Chartier).
If a person searched for horseshoe crabs in a shallow brackish marine environment and found a
living horseshoe crab and compared it to a fossil record of one, they would look almost identical to
each other. The outward

Jackson acted like a king was because he owned slaves throughout his lifetime. Document 7 states
that he owned the most slaves when he was president. He acted like a king because you can not

34. Filial Piety In The Good Earth By Pearl S. Buck
In this day and age, if you were abused as a child by your family members it is more socially
acceptable to leave your family entirely behind as soon as you turn eighteen, or even before that
point. Back in China during and before the time of the Chinese Revolution, this was not the case.
In The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck, Buck demonstrates the bind of filial pietythrough the
depiction of Wang Lung and his uncle. Since the time of the Chinese Revolution, the dynamics of a
familyhave changed in a positive way because people are beginning to not be bonded to their
family on the basis of filial piety.
In The Good Earth, main character Wang Lung is bound to his uncle because of filial piety. Wang
Lung s uncle is a lazy and imposed upon Wang Lung and his family throughout the novel,
continuously using Wang Lung s duty of filial piety to silence him. This passage from the novel
sums up Wang Lung s experience with his uncle. Wang Lung s Uncle began at this time to become
the trouble which Wang Lung had surmised from the beginning that he might be. This uncle was
the younger brother of Wang Lung s father, and by all the claims of relationship he might depend
upon Wang Lung if he had not enough for himself and his family (59). As his father s brother, and
his elder, Wang Lung must respect his uncle and listen to his wishes. Wang Lung s obligation to
respect the older generation leads to his uncle continuously exploiting him, in his poverty and his
wealth. Wang Lung s uncle is

different people from our school perform in front of an audience. It was nice to see the wide
variety of talent that is found at our school. A nice touch to the production was having a student,
teacher, and former student be the judges for the night. The final student act in the production of
the DHS Factor was a performance by seniors, Will Wyman and Iain Smith. Unlike the rest of the
contestants, they had a more satirical approach to their performance. They chose to sing the song,

realness. Nobody seemed to care in both circumstances that the performances were meant as a

Myles Derr
Topic 3 Some characteristics Oedipus shows while he is a king is his impatience, his ability to act
rashly, and how quick he likes to take action. One example of this is on page 18 of The Oedipus
Cycle when he says, What a wicked old man you are! You d try a stone s patience! Out with it!
Oedipus says this after Teiresias refuses to tell him what he knows about the murderer of the
previous king of Thebes. Instead of trying to persuade him further or just accept that Teiresias
won t tell Oedipus what he wants to know, his impatience causes him to act rashly and start
insulting the seer. Another example of Oedipus s tendency to act quickly appears on page 28
when Oedipus says to Creon, You murderer! Do you think I do not know that you plotted to kill
me, plotted to steal my throne? Prior to their conversation, Oedipus asks his brother in law,
Creon, to bring Teiresias to him so they may ask him what he knows. After Teiresias refuses to
share what he knows with Oedipus, he eventually tells him that Oedipus is the murderer that he
is seeking. Just from this, Oedipus quickly comes to the conclusion that Creon urged Teiresias to
say this in order to usurp the throne. Another example of Oedipus s rashness appears on page 43

Euthanasia: Why It Should Be Legal
In the past, a doctor was a friend who treated the diseases. Now a doctor is a stranger who
combats diseases. Their job is not only to prevent death but also to improve the patient s quality
of life. Lots of times there is nothing a doctor can do to prevent a patient from dying if the patient
has a terminal disease; all they can do is wait for death to arrive. This waiting time can be very
painful for both the patients and the people who surround them. Not practicing euthanasia at the
request of the dying person is violating a person s rights, interfering with a doctor s job, and
increasing suffering.
First off, deciding if someone wants to be alive or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hospitals are just wasting time and money on a situation that won t get better. If the patient wants
euthanasia they deserve a quick and painless death. Doctors cannot end the huge amount of money
wasted on a treatment that won t help so why not alleviate some of those expenses from family
members and taxpayers.
Doctors should be allowed to end life, especially when the person desires it. I am only doing what I,
as a physician, should do . (Kevorkian 170) It doesn t make sense that they can keep someone alive
without having the opportunity to ask that person if they want to be living like that. Many patients
now find themselves unable to live without machines that restrict their movements and often cause
different kinds of pain, and some may prefer not to live at all . (Marzilli 69) The doctor is just the
person who helps the patient to do what they desire.
Many would say what makes life sustaining treatment none beneficial or too big of a burden if it
can achieve its design of saving life. On the other hand, if death is in the best interests of some
patients if the withdrawal of life sustaining treatment can be said to be of benefit in this case then
death constitutes a moral good for these patients . (Doyal) Incompetent patients are unable to
benefit from further treatment or find it too large of a burden if they cannot benefit from being
alive any longer. When the continuing use of life sustaining treatment is to be of no benefit or of
too much burden, the doctor

41. Notes On The Great Gatsby By Leon Garfield
TITLE Smith explores how both [intuition/morals] and intelligence are required to break the
bonds of poverty. The Industrial Revolution was a time of great advancement, but also great
grime, greed, dust, and dirt. The great dark mazes called neighborhoods were awash with the
poor; there were homeless, orphans, criminals, or combinations of the three and more. Everyone
was playing their own game of life, surviving by their own crooked means. Trust was dangerous,
even between close family and friends. Every man, woman, and child within the shroud of
poverty was competing for their own gains. It is in this sanctimonious, stinking, soot covered
world that young Smith, the protagonist of Smith by Leon Garfield, finds himself in. Smith has
taken it upon himself to escape the prison that poverty is through the discovery of a [adjective
portraying power, special, dangerous, sought after] document. Smith, along with others, fight for
ownership of the document, to unlock its secrets and use to their benefit. Smith must use his
skills of intelligence and intuition if he is to succeed, or even survive the escape of poverty. The
river of Poverty is a great one; it is easy to slip and go down yet almost impossible to crawl back
up. It is even worse for those who start at the very bottom. Everything above those at the bottom
wants to want to push and pull them back, as if to prevent them from reaching any level of human

I agree with the statement only to a small extent. The period of warlord rule was particularly
chaotic in China. However, even when order was being restored again, the aims of the three
people s principles were not all being achieved. Therefore, I feel that warlord rule is not the most
important reason as to why Sun Yat Sen was unable to achieve the aims of the three people s
principles.
The three people s principles are the principle of nationalism, the principle of democracy and the
principle of the people s well being. The first one is Sun Yat Sen s aim to unite the whole of China.

people. Sun Yat Sen s principle of democracy is not being upheld as these warlord ruled over
their area like a dictator. These warlords exploited the people under them, like the peasants. Thus
it is clear that Sun Yat Sen s principle s are not being achieved or even upheld. He, himself could
not do anything as his party and government was still too weak. However, this period of warlord
rule is not the only factor that prevented him from being unable to achieve his aims.
Due to the disunity in his party, Kuomintang (KMT), he could not achieve the aims of his three
principles. Before he can actually unite the whole country, he would need to unite his party
members. He often met failure when he tried to reunite the country due to internal squabbles in
his own party. They often argued over the third principle. Some party members wanted the land
of the landlords to be taken away from them, and come under state ownership. However, there
were others who disagreed. Therefore, this made it very difficult for Sun Yat Sen to get his party
members to work together to achieve his aims. He soon realised he had to reorganize his

46. Loaded Language In Hamlet
In the tragedy of Hamlet Shakespeare uses loaded language and actions that heavily impact the
mental appearance of his characters. His choices make the characters change by implementing a
wide variety in the descriptive words and gruesome acts that impact the overall feel of the
characters. This change can make some characters that started out with clear goals in mind change
before the audiences eyes; making the characters change between a state of madness to clarity and
serenity in a blink of an eye. His choices in words and actions change his characters dramatically
between madness and serenity to show the levity and frailty of human emotions; which helps entrap
the audience in the playand changes the overall feeling the play gives to the audience.
One character that Shakespeare uses to change the play through mental flips of emotions is Hamlet.

the book before she moved to a different state in the United States. Lexington is the second
largest city in Kentucky and has a population of about 318,449 people! It is known as the the
horse capital of the world because it is the home of a few major race courses. In Lexington, they
have a strange law that you can t put an ice cream cone in your back pocket. This law was made
to help reduce horses being stolen. Horses like sweets so they will follow you. People might think
that you are stealing their horse and you could even get arrested for doing this act.... Show more

granite was removed in the sculpting and the whole entire project costed the United States

wanted to find a way to attract tourists. His plan worked because three million people visit the

48. The Importance Of Plagiarism
In the growing age of the internet, it has become easier and easier for students to plagiarize. In
many ways plagiarism hasn t changed at all, it is still a shortcut students may take to get a paper
or assignment done as fast as possible. It can sometimes be difficult to recognize what plagiarism is
and why it is such an inexcusable action. Understanding plagiarismis one key to becoming a better
writer: knowing what plagiarism is, the importance of documentation and when to use MLA or APA.
Plagiarism is the theft of someone s written work and claiming it as your own. Today, the
temptation for students to cheat is even more pervasive, with seemingly every idea about
everything just a few finger taps away (Miller). As it becomes easier to plagiarize it can become
harder to distinguish what plagiarism is. Plagiarism can be done on everything from music,
images, and videos. Copying someone else s sentence structures is also considered plagiarism.
Plagiarism can have harsh consequences if there is lots of money involved. It is also an extremely
serious offense when it comes to academics and if caught you can be expelled from school.
When using another person s words in your own paper you must use proper documentation. By
using proper documentation you can utilize another person s ideas without plagiarizing. It is even
possible to self plagiarize your own work. Why not? They were my words. I was their author. I
assumed I could employ them as I pleased (Carnett). Taking

It would provide good publicity for Lexus in showing that they truly do care about helping the

Personal selling (10%): Personal selling is going to be the least important aspect of the
promotional plan. The Lexus name is very well established to the point where it does not need
help selling itself. Lexus has set a standard in customer service and customer relations. When
most people think of Lexus, they know they will be pampered and receive only the best in
service. The only thing needed would be to assign sales representatives to one Lexus dealership
in each major metropolitan city to conduct sales presentations about the 400h and what it has to
offer to our customers. No more than ten sales representatives would need to be hired for this
task. Each representative would travel to a dealership and educated the sales people on
everything they needed to convey potential customers. One sales representative will be assigned
to each major dealership where they will oversee in store promotions and be available to answer
any question a customer might have in regards to the Lexus RX400h. sales reps could also setup
various in store promotions to help familiarize dealerships as well as potential customers of the
many innovative technologies built into the high class

50. How Is Lady Macbeth Corruption
In Shakespeare s play Macbeth, there are many different scenarios and thoughts of all the characters
that are diverse. Each character wants something and has their own kind of power within the story.
Some over right others and have more power then another character. The corruption that goes on
during the play Macbethis horrendous and is mainly caused by Macbeth and Lady Macbeth.
Depending on each situation power does corrupt automatically, for an example Macbeth and
Lady Macbeth both want power and to be king and queen, by doing so they murdered Duncan so
they could get their thrones. In relation when they got their power per say, they became like they
were better than everyone else which would eventually go in the wrong direction. Because of the
way they were all they did was try to defeat others and acted unconcerned toward others as well as
didn t care how they felt. Being a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If she really wanted something accomplished in her favor she should have done it by herself,
though what she wanted was wrong it was all the power she would have that was going to her
head. Lady Macbeth wants other people to do her dirty work and is certainly manipulative with
people.
Macbeth is so greedy with his power that he doesn t care if he has to murder someone for all the
power he has and wants. Having a lot of power over people will influence you in a big way and
not for the best, if you know you can get away with doing things you re not supposed to then you
will try and find the breaking point until another person stands up to you. I think this is exactly
what Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are doing, they know they can do whatever they want to and no
one will say anything until they get ridiculously over the

51. Social Process Theory Essay
Social Process Theory
Social Process and Crime
In the social process theory, three areas are covered. The three are social learning theory, social
control theory, and social reaction theory.
The definition of the social learning theory is People learn through observing others behavior,
attitudes, and outcomes of those behaviors. Most human behavior is learned observationally
through modeling: from observing others, one forms an idea of how new behaviors are performed,
and on later occasions this coded information serves as a guide for action. (Learning Theories
Knowledgebase ). Most people learn through watching other. As a child, we learn by mocking
what we have observed repeatedly. This is how we learn to walk, talk, ... Show more content on

If the child feels that, they do not have a chance in school this may lead to them dropping out. In
this situation, the child does not have a chance to build a steady relationship with the teacher for
support. Another factor that can affect a child and what they learn can be peer groups. If the
child is hanging around with a group that has antisocial behavior then they can fall into the trap
of being bad because it is cool. The bad crowd can lead any child to deviant behavior and down
the wrong path. The more violent the group the more likely the child will be to commit serious
crime to impress their friends.
One of the subcategories of Social Learning Theory is the Differential Association Theory first
developed by Edwin H. Sutherland in 1939 in a text call Principles of criminology. The basic steps
to this theory are. (Sutherland, 1939)
1.Criminal behavior is learned.
2.Learning is a by product of interaction.
3.Learning occurs within intimate groups.
4.Criminal techniques are learned.
5.Perceptions of legal code influence motives and drives.
6.Differential associations may very in frequency, duration, priority, and intensity.
7.The process of learning criminal behavior by association with criminal and anticriminal patterns
involves all of the mechanisms involved in any other learning process.

52. Scarlette O Hara Charater Analysis
SCARLETT O HARA Analysis Essay 02/13/12 SCARLETT O HARA Scarlett O Hara is a
woman who does what it takes to survive no matter what the case may be. In the book Gone
with the Wind, Scarlett O Hara plays a role of what most people might think is crazy. This upper
class southern belle living in the country side of Atlanta, Georgia just before the Civil War takes
place. She embarks on an adventure of turmoil, death, and deceitfulness. In this era of time during
the Civil War Scarlett did not care for it, in fact she pitied the fool to do such a act as war. Scarlett
went from this simple, but yet complicated teenager to an extremely deep and dark woman of
desperate needs. Scarlett possesses a remarkable talent for leadership, optimism,... Show more

Scarlett repeats variation of this line several times over the course of the novel when hardships
plague her. She knows that she often acts immorally and that she faces absurdly difficult
circumstances, and to avoid feelings of guilt and helplessness she simply avoids reflecting on her
life. Scarlett knows eventually she should mull over her plight, but she always puts it off until
another, different day, which never truly comes. But this refusal to reflect is crucial to Scarlett s
survival. Her attitude contrasts directly with Ashley s obsession with the past and inability to let
go of nostalgia and adapt to new times. Scarlett s determination tomorrow is another day indicates
her fundamental optimism about the future. Because Scarlett represents the South, her optimism
indicates Mitchell s general optimism about the South s ability to survive the face of change. An
America soon to be upended by revolutions in attitudes toward race, gender and sexual morals
(Keller, 2009). Scarlett manages to overcome adversity through brute strength of will. She
emerges as a feminist heroine because she relies on herself alone and survives the Civil War and
reconstruction unaided. She rebuilds Tara after the Yankee invasion and works her way up in the
new political order, taking care of helpless family members and friends along the way. Scarlett gave
birth to Melanie Hamilton s baby alone and while invasion of the Yankees thru Atlanta was
happening. Overcoming
