The document discusses the causes and effects of the Boxer Rebellion in China. It states that the refusal of legal trade led to the spread of opium addiction among the Chinese people. This caused social and economic decline. When Western nations tried to open trade and introduce their culture, China struggled to adapt. Internal conflicts arose between Western religion and Confucianism. The Nanking Treaty increased trade but also unrest with the Chinese. This led to the Boxer Rebellion, where nationalists tried to reduce foreign influence. However, this undermined China's ability to modernize and left the country vulnerable politically and economically.

The document discusses how Homer's Iliad depicts timeless truths about human nature that still resonate today. It argues that the work shows how arrogant leaders can manipulate people for their own amusement, similar to detached modern politicians. Additionally, the gods in the story pulling the strings resemble bureaucrats today. The document also notes the work illustrates how pride and passion can drive people to extreme violence and destruction.

2. The Importance Of Sarbanes Oxley Act
MEMO To: Professor of ACG 1001 Writing Project From: Calvin Robinson CC: Date: June 13, 2016
Re: The Importance of Sarbanes Oxley Act After several scandals that involved such major
corporations as WorldCom, Enron and Arthur Anderson. President Bush signed the Sarbanes Oxley
Act of 2002 on July 30, 2002 which created after Senator Paul Sarbanes and Representative Michael
Oxley. The act was created to regulate financial practices and corporate governance. It consists of 11
different sections or titles. It is aimed at protecting investors by providing accuracy and reliability of
corporate disclosures and to help restore confidence within the investors. Sarbanes Oxley developed
the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, a private, nonprofit corporation, to ensure that
financial statements are audited according to independent standards .(Fass 2003) The first main aspect
of federal legislation was the Securities Act of 1933, which was derived from the Market crash of
1929. In order to protect a company or a business it relies that each quarterly report financial issues
has to be authorized and confirmed by the executive officer or chief financial officer. Therefore,
companies are required to have an internal auditor that is certified by an external auditor. The
Sarbanes Oxley Act or SOX affects not only the financial corporations, but also IT departments that
are in charge of storing electronic records for companies. The act states that the records should not be

3. Depreciation and New Equipment
Point of View
This case study is discussed from Paperco, Inc. point of view of whether they should avail the tax
benefits and cost savings in replacing the mechanical drying equipment.
Recommendation
Based on the analysis below in this memo, Paperco should purchase new mechanical drying
equipment now in advance in anticipation of the passage of new tax legislation. Purchasing the
equipment now maintains a positive Net Present Value for the capital project if the legislation is not
enacted, or if the new legislation is enacted and the capital project is contracted early enough so that it
is grandfathered in. With tax legislation grandfathered, the project gets the benefit of the new lower
corporate tax rate and the old ACRS ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paperco would retain all tax credits due to the fact the machine has been in service for 84 months, and
use a 5 year ACRS depreciation model for the new equipment. This option has a positive NPV of
$2,619,745.
Option II in which the new tax proposal is enacted. The new equipment is installed in December 1986.
Paperco signs a binding contract soon enough to be grandfathered , this allows Paperco to receive the
8% tax credit and use ACRS depreciation. At the same time, their tax rate would fall to 34%. Paperco
would benefit from this more favorable grandfathered tax approach. Option II has a positive NPV of
$3,414,104.
Option III in which the new tax proposal is enacted and Paperco installs the new equipment in
December 1986, but they do not sign a binding contract in time to be grandfathered and receive the
8% investment tax credit and use ACRS depreciation. The company will use MACRS and a
depreciation period of 7 years. The NPV of the project with this timing and structure is $3,228,044.
Without the grandfathered tax allowance, the new tax legislation makes the project unattractive based
on lower Net Present Value.
Calculations

There are three options available to Paperco, Inc. with respect to this capital investment:
Option I: New legislation is passed and Paperco

4. Four Quartets And The Four Quartets
Einstein s theory of Relativity hinges on two axioms: the laws of physics are the same for all frames of
reference, and the speed of light in a vacuum is constant. In his famous train thought experiment,
Einstein proved that the order of events depends on the location of the observer. In essence, he proved
time dilation: or the phenomena that time bends and contracts. Eventually, he realized time dilation is
a necessary consequence of keeping the speed of light in a vacuum constant everywhere in the
universe, leading him to eventually conclude that space and time are not separate, distinct entities, but
one linked dimension: spacetime. This single dimension, because it stretches and contracts, allows for
unusual interactions between space ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He chases this unformed notion, until at last in The Dry Salvages, he releases his own David from the
marble block of uncertainty. The hint half guessed, the gift half understood, is/ Incarnation. /Here the
impossible union/of spheres of existence is actual,/ Here past and future/ Are conquered, and
reconciled, . The Incarnation provides the only instance wherein time and eternity collide, and co
exist. The Incarnation allows time past, time present, and time yet to come a simultaneous existence.
However, the implications of simultaneity drastically change reality, both for Einstein and for Eliot.
Einstein s theory allowed for strange realizations, such as light is both a particle and a wave at the
same time and in the same way, which seems to break the foundational law of non contradiction. Eliot
s realization that the Incarnation redeems all time by allowing it all to exist together, seems to face the
same problem. However, this seemingly self referential absurdity may spring from nothing more than
the frame of reference from within which Eliot and Einstein work. Just as time and eternity are
separate and distant entities to the normal observer, the observer on the event horizon sees them as the
same thing simultaneously. Perhaps, when viewed from the frame of reference of the Incarnation,
these absurdities resolve into clarity, for here the impossible union of spheres of existence is

5. The Firefly Hunt
For decades, writing has been a way for authors to create byproducts of themselves and portray their
alike qualities within what the outside world would like to consider fictional characters. It s not
uncommon to the writing world of novels and prestigious narratives take Stephen King for example:
although he didn t hide his motives as he used his original name in Songs of Susannah, he introduced
himself into the plot nonetheless, creating a familiar atmosphere where realism was incorporated into
a dream. When reading short stories like Red Cranes by Jacey Choy and The Firefly Hunt by Jun
ichiro Tanizaki, the audience can only be led to imagine if the authors have placed themselves in a
position to empathize with their creations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like the reader, authors can get lost in their words and find themselves in the shoes of someone they
are fabricating. This recycles their thought process, which ultimately forces them to reword their fears
and doubts in order for the reader to connect with their tone. In a passage of Red Cranes, Choy forms
her character, Mie, to ask questions despite her underlining terror of receiving a scolding in response.
For a young girl in Japan, practicality was the only way to survive, and when Mie voiced her thoughts
of imagining herself on the back of a red crane, flying high in the air (p.4), her mother disregarded her
wild ideas for a young girl (p.13), and in return, told her to focus on her reading and writing. It s a
contrast to the way Sachiko freely thought inside of her mind, holding the dreamer at bay inside of
her. Instead, her silent thoughts were incorporated into the description of her surroundings, where the
air was dreamy and calm with nature s natural light fluttering around her. Both girls are visionaries,
but they are lost in different reveries. While both authors might have experienced the need to love the
world at every single angle, their characters and perhaps the nonfictional result of the writers
themselves found different paths to take at the end of their respective

In Journey s End , one of the main characters who plays the main role in creating the plot, climax and
other parts of the play is Stanhope. Sherriff adds several techniques to the play which constructs
Stanhope s character much more captivating, enchanting and sophisticating.
Sherriff sets the scene with a trench dugout with the conversation between Osbourne and Hardy
discussing about Stanhope s behaviour. This encounters how we visualise Stanhope, whom we haven t

bring forth a sense of strictness and steadfast loyalty he has towards his career. Furthermore, during
the outrage for Raleigh s letter, the playwright uses the stage direction trembling to imply how solemn
Stanhope perceives in the strain of leadership that necessitate to be free of unfairness rather than based
on personal and private relationships.
In conclusion, multiples techniques have been used to characterise Stanhope in such a compelling
character. Techniques like stage direction, emotive language, juxtaposition, and the dialogue between
soldiers of Stanhope s company has differentiate him from others. To summarise, Sherriff granted
Stanhope with a strong sensation of initiative, allegiance, and worship qualities that will exist in the

9. The Civil Rights Movement And The Women s Rights Movement
Since the late 19th century, the efforts of protest and activism have been more focused on the
expansion of individual freedoms for minority groups and those who faced significant discrimination
rather than equality for all people. Individual freedom is the right of every citizen in the United States
and signifies that every person has a right to freely express themselves, move about the country, and
have assurance of the security of their private property, among other things. The principal examples of
this shift in focus to advancing individual freedoms are the Civil Rights Movement and the Women s
Rights Movement. Each of these movements was spurred by a group of people taking a stand against
being refused their human rights. African Americans were long mistreated and discriminated against
in the United States. They faced suffering of every kind, from not being able to eat in certain
restaurants or use certain bathrooms to being denied the same educational rights and opportunities as
white people. This latter point is especially evident in the fact that only twenty percent of African
American veterans returning home from war in 1945 and 1946 were given education funding. Such
discrimination is undeniable and representative of a broken society. The fact that eighty percent of
black soldiers who survived the horrors of war were treated so unfairly in their own home country
illustrates the need for expansion of individual freedoms for African Americans in the United

Introduction: The conflict between the Ukraine and Russia is the Ukraine s most long standing and
deadly crisis; since its post Soviet independence began as a protest against the government dropping
plans to forge closer trade ties with the European Union. The conflict between Russia and the Ukraine
stems from more than twenty years of weak governance, the government s inability to promote a
coherent executive branch policy, an economy dominated by oligarchs and rife with corruption, heavy
reliance on Russia, and distinct differences between Ukraine s population from both Eastern and

Moreover, globalization has resulted in the state not having as much control over phenomena such as
global companies, information sharing (social media and google) and trading. In addition to the fact
that states can no longer exercise control of their financial markets alone. Multilateral arrangements in
the global economy such as IMF, GATT, G 7, as well as multi nation corporations frustrate states
through threat of transfer pricing and relocating their production facilities (Goksel 2005). As a result
globalisation has also undone some important cultural and psychological underpinnings of
sovereignty. However, it is imperative to note that the effect of globalisation on different nation states
will not be the same, because states differ domestically, historically, politically and socio culturally.
Therefore, states will make different policy choices in response to the same global phenomena (Held

The Numerous Themes in Othello
The Shakespearean tragedy Othello contains a number of themes; their relative importance and
priority is debated by literary critics. In this essay let us examine the various themes and determine
which are dominant and which subordinate.
A. C. Bradley, in his book of literary criticism, Shakespearean Tragedy, describes the theme of sexual
jealousy in Othello:
But jealousy, and especially sexual jealousy, brings with it a sense of shame and humiliation. For this
reason it is generally hidden; if we perceive it we ourselves are ashamed and turn our eyes away; and
when it is not hidden it commonly stirs contempt as well as pity. Nor is this all. Such jealousy as

Act 1 Scene 1 opens with an expression of jealousy and hatred: Roderigo is upbraiding Iago because
of the elopement of the object of his affections Desdemona with the Moor: Thou told st me thou didst
hold him in thy hate. Iago responds with an expression of hatred, saying that he does indeed hate the
general because he Nonsuits my mediators; for, Certes, says he, / I have already chose my officer. Lily
B. Campbell in Shakespeare s Tragic Heroes indicates the palpable hatred:
It is then on a theme of hate that the play opens. It is a hate of inveterate anger. It is a hate that is
bound up with envy. Othello has preferred to be his lieutenant a military theorist, one Michael Cassio,
over the experienced soldier Iago, to whom has fallen instead the post of his Moorship s ancient .
Roderigo questions Iago:
Thou told st me thou didst hold him in thy hate.
And the reply is a torrent of proof of the hatred for Othello that has almost exceeded the envy of
Cassio because he possesses the prize which Iago has sought to obtain for himself. (153)

12. The Commodity Chain Analysis On The Red Gold Spice
This commodity chain analysis focuses on the red gold spice: saffron. The spice is known to be more
expensive than gold, with high values at $2,000 per kilogram (Iran Daily). It high price has landed
saffron in the category of a luxury good . Although saffron is grown in many countries, the most
interesting saffron geographically is Iran. It s widely known that the value and cost of this particular
spice is connected to the strenuous labor of cultivation, but there are more explanatory variables that
contribute to the market price. Popular angles determining cost and value on commodities, such as a
labor and supply demand, are often discussed. This paper, however, will explore the political angle of
price determination. Due to a political agreement between major countries to place Iran on an
economic hold, Iran is forced to pursue alternative means of trade for many goods; trades of which
other saffron producing countries are not subjected to. The large distinction on how Iran exports its red
gold to a foreign consumer base affects the country s economy and the market price of saffron. Where
the cost and value grows during the commodity chains lifespan will be unraveled through the
production, marketing, and consumption. Cultivation Technology has created many opportunities for

The Metrics of English Fred: Welcome ladies and gentlemen to this lovely evening in the city of
London in the world renowned Globe Theatre. Today we are joined by two guests, Sylvia Miller and
Joseph Johnson and I am your host, Fred Phillips. Both our guests having many years of linguistics
and literature experience will analyse several texts that belong to different stages of the English
language and compare their ideas. Why may you ask? To discuss the points of comparison between
linguistics and the aesthetic analysis of English literature and discover the underlying oral similarities
of our language
Sylvia Miller is renowned for her understanding and interpretation of the aesthetic aspects of English
literature throughout the periods Old English to the Modern English, ranging from 800 A.D, all the
way to the twentieth century. Sylvia argues that the language is based on entertainment and that the
enjoyment of the text lies in bringing out the beauty of the language and the craftsmanship of the
author. And, as for Joseph Johnson, his insight and deconstruction of text and the English language
through linguistics is able to magnify the origins of the text and how its historical context would have
affected the language and style of writing. With this analysis, text and language becomes a historical
timeline that contains the foundations of Modern English. With these two individuals tonight,

16. Reflection On Writing
At this point in the semester I do not really feel any different than in the beginning. For the most part
my writing has stayed the same as when I first started. The biggest change I have experienced in my
writing is my ability to organize more effectively and to manage my time better. Although my writing
has not changed increasingly, some parts of the writing process has been improved such as
organization and time management.
One thing I have learned during the course of this semester thus far are the terms logos, pathos, and
ethos. I would not say that knowing the terms have significantly affected how I read now, as I feel like
the skills needed to use logos, pathos, and ethos I had already been using. However, now I know terms
and because of such I am able to organize the thoughts more sufficiently. My writing problems have
consistently been a struggle with organization. Having specific terms for skill I already used has made
organization much easier as I can categorize my critical thinking.
I have written reading responses and comparison essays before so I cannot say that the writing in this
class has impacted my writing significantly. Overall my writing has not changed much, however my
organization skill have improved. I have always preferred organization and lists and categorizing, so
learning what logos, pathos, and ethos are has given me a knew way to categorize information and has
improved my organization and time management. While I feel confident that I haves used

17. Fans And Fandom
Traditionally, the topic of fans and fandom has been well researched throughout popular culture
media. Various studies have been conducted to discover the relationship between constructed popular
media and its impact on society and the concept of fans and fandom represent a positive relationship
between the two. The positive relationship, between fans and popular culture, can be examined
through the work of Bourdieu whom uncovered how culture distinctions are classed in nature in order
to legitimize a class hierarchy (Gray Murray, 2016, p.358). To make popular media exclusive,
researcher Stuart Hall (1999) discovered that the creators of popular media encoded their own beliefs,
values, norms and/or experiences into the media content that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Though anti fans do not support popular culture economically, researcher Dallas Smythe (2006) revels
that anti fans are knowledgeable individuals based on their experiences undergone throughout
childhood to adulthood (p.244). Using personal experiences, anti fans engage in semiotic and
enunciative productivity, as author Fiske (1989) quotes, where anti fans use their own personal
experiences to interpret, comprehend and articulate the popular media content (p.37). Armed with
their personal experiences, researcher Jonathan Gray (2003) documents that anti fans are able to
interpret the popular culture being produced and construct a recreation that is suitable for their
reaction, and in doing so, react negatively to the popular media content (p.71). In choosing to adapt
the popular media content, researcher Gray (2003) discovers that anti fans find a concept that they
wholeheartedly dislike and invest great amount of effort and time to express this displeasure;
ultimately allowing them to be active members in popular culture discourse (p.71). An example of this
can be seen in the anti fandom community that has been created against the Fifty Shades of Grey
series. Research conducted into the anti fandom community surrounding the displeasure towards the
Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy unveils that distaste in a popular culture media can produce various
distinctions, with each anti fan having an interpretation, and input, towards what makes the popular
culture unpopular (Harman Jones, 2013,p.962). According to the researchers Harman Jones (2013),
the various distinctions that arise in anti fan discourse is proof towards exemplifying how anti fans are
active members in production and circulation of popular culture (p.963). Besides being active
members in interpreting popular culture

Elizabethan age Warfare
While Elizabeth I. ruled as queen there were three great wars: The one against Spain and two
rebellions started by each a Irish Earl, one by Earl Desmond, James Fitzmaurice Fitzgerald, and the
other one by Earl Tyrone, Hugh O Neill. All wars ended with a good outcome for the British Empire,
for example the the failure of the Desmond Rebellions.
First of, the most important war within Europe of that era. The war between Spain and England, which
also involved fights in the Netherlands, which later were known as Dutch Rebellion. The war could be

England at that time didn t have half of this amount of ships, just 34 and over 160 merchant vessels,
which normally could not be used to fight. But with some tricks the English seamen were able to
defeat the whole Spanish Armada.
The war ended after the next king, James I, was proclaimed king. The reasons are simple: He forbid all
privateering and was also a Catholic Monarch. So Elizabeth I could never end the war against Spain
herself because she never intended to do as James I did.
Coming to the next fightings which all were before or during the war against Spain. The first one were
the Desmond Rebellions led by James Fitzmaurice Fitzgerald, Earl of Desmond in the 1870 s, 1880 s

TECHNOLOGY
Materials for 3D printing were very limited during the early days of the technology.
Today, there is a whole array of material types that are supplied in different forms (filament, powder,
pellets, resin, granules etc).
The first step in 3D printing is to design the 3D digital model using a CAD program or scan the object
with a 3D scanner. The model will then be sliced into layers and converted into a printer readable file.
The printing material will be added one layer at a time. Different materials are suited for different 3D
printing technologies. There is no one solution fits all (The Potential of 3D Printing, Pg 4, METI
Journal).
Some 3D printers process powdered materials which utilize a light source to fuse layers of the powder

Factories: Assembly lines and supply chains are reduced. Factories have highly developed and

goods can be repaired by simply printing the spoiled component.
The (Big Innovation Centre, 2012) highlights some of the advantages of 3D printing. One of the
benefits of 3D printing is the ability to produce customized and personalized products. The appearance
of a product can be suited according to customer preferences. Secondly, 3D printing reduces
inventories. Retailers do not need to stockpile a large number of products.
Moreover, 3D printing reduces capital costs for manufacturers. As there is no need for an assembly
line, the need for a large scale investment in factories and machinery is reduced. Lastly, 3D printing
reduces transport costs, by removing the need for intermediate goods to be shipped from one factory
to another.

Psychological egoism is the view that all persons, without exception, seek their own self interest. I am
going to argue against this and I will also be providing two reasons as to why I feel this way. Pretty
much every human action, its main cause is a selfish act. Even when acts are ethical on the surface are
pretty much motivated by selfishness. Psychological Egoism is a theory that rather than suggesting, as
ethical or rational egoism does, how people ought to live. It suggests how people actually go about

1. Response versus Reaction
There was a time in my life that I didn t really think about things. I didn t think before I spoke. I didn t
think before I made big decisions, like what colleges to apply for. I didn t really question anything

And then... The darn yoga. Yoga kicked and scratched and bruised my ego. It put me in my place on
more than on occasion and force fed me some humble pie. It made me care about other people. Yoga
led me to Kula for Karma, and then I realized how important seva and volunteering are. Now I can t

thoughts, other people s feelings and circumstances came up. I found myself forgiving people and
praying for people rather than threatening people and pulling hair. Now I want other people to feel

25. Dynamic Nominalism
The meaning of dynamic nominalism is that in naming classifications of human types, people come to
fit the label given. A new possibility is offered and this can influence individuals to adopt
characteristics and thus fit in to the new classification. This differs from inert nominalism and realism
as this label may not always be the same one used for the individual, as social change gives birth to
new opportunities, individuals may move categories. This essay is going to explore Hacking s term
dynamic nominalism through the illustration of some of the issues in the emo society.

Dynamic nominalism differs to both realism and nominalism; it suggests that society is active and

people are pre sorted, that labels exist before we discover that which we label. In contrast a nominalist
believes that the only thing that which is labelled has in common is the label. They also believe that
classifications do not interact with their class and that labels do not change. In the emo society we can

26. Brick Wall Reflection
My father was always sharing with me, his stored words of wisdom as a kid growing up. One in
particular that I heard many times over, was, this world is made up of all kinds of people from all
walks of life.
You just never know what people are going through in their life s and do not deserved to be judged by
anybody and by all means not to be judged by you. He followed up with the usual question, do you
understand me? And from time to time, he would challenge me to make sure I did.
He stressed for me to take ownership of your own responsibilities and treat everyone with the same
respect, that you want in return. Do not turn your head, do not look down and never be disrespectful to
anyone in passing.
Always be the first to extend your hand with a simple gesture, because you never know, you might
need that same hand to help you up.
This brick wall represents the variation of tone and color of each brick. No two bricks are truly the
same, but yet, very similar.
My father continued with; the human race is very much like this brick wall, different shapes, different
tones and colors, and from different places from all over the world.
While viewing this presentation, the focus was highlighting to compare similarities between the bricks
and the human races, attributes.

logos, warm colors, a scene of a loving environment, images of animals in pain and hurting, and a
reward if their target audience does decide to help their cause. I think that this is an effective
advertisement due to all of the strategies that they do use. In this commercial it starts of with a sad

This is because people will imagine that happening to their own loving pet and it pulls on their
heartstrings to help. People do not want to see animals, which are pets hurting like they are in this
commercial. They fear for these animals and want them to feel that love that they give to their own
animal. They use three different but major appeals in this as well, the first being logos. The
advertisement tells us that an animal is abused every hour. They used this so we could put it into
perspective just how often it happens. The next appeal they had used is ethos because they used
someone who is famous to help build the credibility of ASPCA. If it is someone we know, we as
humans are more likely to listen to what they have to say. The last major appeal they used was pathos.
Pathos was used in many forms in this commercial from the song that was used, to the pictures that
scrolled across our screen, to the fact that no pet owner want to see a pet hurting and in pain as the
pictures showed. The words the Sarah said as well played into the appeal of pathos, by saying these
animals NEED your help . This appeal is the one that is suppose to pull on ones emotions and it does

(Niggaz Wit Attitudes). Depicting the lives of its members, Straight Outta Compton address the issues
that were facing America during that period of time; most of them racial issues. The film addresses
issues such as Capitalism in terms of the group s manager Jerry Heller and the Recording Company s
representative. The film also briefly touches upon the misogyny in the hip hop industry and the
treatment of women while omitting some scenes. And finally, the biggest issue facing America at the
time and currently, Police brutality. The film shows the audiences how the group was treated because
of their skin color and their financial/living situation. For these reasons, the film Straight Outta
Compton offers a commentary on the racial issues facing America through the accounts of the group

34. Organizational Structure Of Mcdonalds
The first McDonald s restaurant was run by brothers Dick and Mac McDonald in San Bernardino,
California. In 1954 Ray Kroc visited small but successful restaurant and was stunned by the
effectiveness of their operation. They produced a limited menu, concentrating on just a few items:
burgers, fries and beverages which allowed them to focus on quality and quick service. They were
looking for a new agent and Kroc saw an opportunity. In 1955, he founded McDonald s System, Inc.,
a predecessor of the McDonald s Corporation, and six years later bought the exclusive rights to the
McDonald s name. By 1958, McDonald s had sold its 100 millionth hamburger. McDonald s has a
divisional organizational structure. Each division handles a specific operational area. The aim of this
organizational structure is to support autonomy and organizational flexibility. McDonald s
organizational structure has the following characteristics, arranged according to significance: Global
hierarchy, Performance based divisions, Function based groups. Global Hierarchy covers all its
operations worldwide. This feature of the organizational structure emphasizes corporate control.
McDonald s CEO, Stephen Easterbrook, directs the activities of all business areas. He passes
mandates down to middle managers, and to the restaurant managers and personnel, etc. This is the
typical system used in many global business organizations. McDonald s used performance as basis for
the new divisions in its organizational

35. Policies in Management Diversity at Denny’s
Policies in Management Diversity at Denny s
Denny s Corporation is a franchisee owned, full service restaurant chain, which operates over 1,000
restaurants through out the world (Nichols, 2012). A major instances caused to Denny s progressive
enlargement in 1993 when two class action lawsuits for discrimination where filed. The lawsuits were
accusing Denny s for repeated civil rights violations, primarily against African Americans (Mor Barak,
2011). Among many discriminatory acts, Denny s has been accused of requesting only African
Americans costumers to pay for meals first when the other customers pay after meals. In addition,
Denny s has been scrutinized for what is known as Blackout periods, were the number of African

Discrimination can appear at the time of recruitment, or at work, with regard to working conditions
such as work hour, leave, pay, training; and dismissal, termination, retirement or discrimination to
customers. It is also important to not only to have clear guiding policy that indicates the commitment
of the organization to provide equal employment opportunity for anyone who applied for a job but
also endeavors to implement it. Adamson attempting to threaten to fire anyone who discriminated is a
strategy on itself to implement his policy.
However, there is sill more work to do, there is sill some discrimination lawsuits that Denny s face.
However, I do not think it is an indication that Denny s new policies and practices are not working.
The policies and practices are super, but I think, Denny s didn t do great job addressing the public that
it has been improving in managing diversity. The public image of Denny s is still associated with their
1990s lawsuits, where they accusing of civil rights violations, primarily against African Americans. In
addition, Denny s name is still associated with discrimination by the fact that Denny s had only one
African American franchisee and had no minority suppliers. However, that is not true now. They need
to let the public know that Denny s not only increased the number of minority employees, but also
increased franchise owners to 120 and increased its purchased from minority owned suppliers to $90

36. An Concept Of A Learning Disability
Firstly, it is interesting the concept of a learning disability individuals think of immediately which is a
dysfunction of the human brain not quite working correctly. Learning disabilities unfortunately come
in all shapes and sizes; they do not end with human beings but can extend into an organization as well.
Organizational learning disabilities are flaws such as lack of communication or a bridge in the gap
which some type of operational system is not quite working properly. In addition, the thought of a
Fortune 500 company having a learning disability is hard to grasp because of the success that they
measure at. To be more specific Walmart is known to be the large corporation the world. According to
the Fortune 500 organization, Walmart was ranked number one for the largest and highest net worth
out of all corporations. But even the largest and the most successful companies have its flaws. After
all, how do organizations learn if mistakes do not occur? It is obvious when walking into a Walmart
store, regardless of the location, there seems to be a few concerning issues that involve both the
employees and the customers. Walmart leadership seem be lacking communication as they choose not
to hear the screaming cries of their very own employees. Because of Walmart s efforts to save money
by paying low salaries and under staffing their super stores it has led to poor employee satisfaction,
not to mention the unfavorable ratings are trickling down to its customers. This paper

37. My Last Shot-Personal Narrative
Friends are like family you cherish them no matter what. NO!Don t shoot don t shoot! I screamed with
laughter.
It was a gorgeous, clear sky Friday in April and today was going to be the best day ever. My class and
I were going to our teachers, Mr.Ferguson s, house because we had earned it by reading for reading
month. He had told us that his house was so close by that we could walk to it. My friend Grace s
nickname was wagon , and when we got to Mr.Ferguson s house there was a wagon her long lost
cousin.
Once Grace was done reuniting with her cousin we went inside, and Mr.Ferguson told us the rules and
to go have fun. All of us headed down stairs. Luke and Andrew found the nerf guns and started
planning something, while Emma and Kenzie were stealing Aarons shoes. Then all ... Show more

Then we hide. I suggested.
Ok, that s a good plan, but then what? Aggy asked.
Then once we see him in range we shoot him until he surrenders.
Once we got to the door we heard someone cocking their gun.
Oh no! I exclaimed.
We heard Luke coming towards the door, so I sprinted towards the porch while Audri was pretending
to just relax as if nothing happened. When I was on the porch I felt a soft thud on my back and I heard
a mischievous cackle break the silence. Luke had shot me. Then I bolted so rapidly without looking
back and that s how I finished our war.
After the war I was bored, so I decided to go play soccer, and right at that moment Mr. Ferguson
decided to play. It was so much fun then my mom said we had to go.
That year was the most fun I ve had since fourth grade. Sadly, that all came to an end when
Mr.Ferguson told us he wasn t going to be there the next year when we were going to be in sixth
grade. We all were devastated. All the girls started sodding our hearts out. I know we all be together
always because my friends are my family and i will cherish them

38. Literary Analysis Of Racis Hutcheson
Phil 9029: From Natural Law to Moral Sense James Belford
Dr. Benjamin Hill
Hutcheson Secondary Literature Analysis
Francis Hutcheson s (1694 1746) account of sympathy is highly nuanced and intricate, along with his
philosophy in general. In his account of sympathy, Hutcheson proclaims a variation of disinterested
love and an actual sense of another s meaningful suffering. Many of his contemporaries within the
18th century Britain misinterpreted this account of sympathy and tried to reduce it to a psychological
egoist account. In his essay Moral Sense and Sympathy, Luigi Turco gives as account of sympathy

Hutcheson then defines internal senses as analogous senses, which are given to us by God in order to
cohabitate with others.3 Sympathy then is not merely a passion that is based off of the imagination,
but a sense no different than sight sound and touch. When we reflect, we gain a sense of pleasures in
thinking about people acting in a benevolent way, even if there is no direct benefit to us involved.4
The narrow Hobbesian account of self interest is the ultimate principle o the individual, but
benevolence is what governs us as a social body; our moral sense is the reflected sense that detects
that benevolence is virtuous.5 We can therefore find it satisfying to be virtuous without this
satisfaction being reduced to Hobbesian self interest. Hutcherson s notion of sympathy is a broader
concept that does not equate self interest and self satisfaction.
This concept of sympathy was held to be highly problematic by Samuel Clarke (1675 1729). Clarke
agrees with Hutcheson that there is some notion of disinterested moral sense that is responsible for
sympathy, yet he disagrees that this notion is enough; the pleasure from the moral sense and
anticipated divine rewards are also morally relevant features. For Clarke, the love of benevolence is
not disinterested; Sympathy actually involves a delight in the happiness of others and a misery in the
