Personal Narrative-Marching Band
We were this close to being stripped of our Undefeated title. The band sat there in the bleachers,
stunned as the announcer pulled up the scores and was ready to reveal first place. Blood rushed
through my veins and the butterflies in my stomach were more active as ever. After all of our
hard work, it would have been a shame if we did not conclude the season with a bang. The
announcer raised her microphone and everything seemed to come to a halt. Memories began to
race through my mind as I started to look back at the time when I first joined the marching band.
Coming into high school, I was not reluctant to try out new things, and marching band was an
activity that would allow me to open myself up to others and develop a strong sense

Women s Magazines Are Littered With Beauty Advertisements
Women s magazines are littered with beauty advertisements. On one page, a mascara ad
promises thick and long lashes as a symmetrically faced woman holds the wand to her eyes. Her
skin is pore less and she appears mechanical.. Turn the page and an actress/model stands with legs
the circumference of an arm. She is modeling jeans, yet they are barely on her body. This kind of
advertisingdoes not end at the actual advertisements. The truth is that the magazineitself is an
advertisement of its reader s inadequacy. Furthermore, the magazine as a whole serves as an
advertisement to a woman s assumed lack of confidence. Almost every product featured in
popular women s magazines is a paid placement. It s no secret that magazine publications are
struggling as more consumers migrate to online platforms. Without subscriber funding,
publications are forced to fund their company in various ways similar to how a person will work
many jobs in order to pay rent. Paid promotional articles and features fill this gap created by
declining subscribers. This makes all of the adverts and all of the articles about fat loss and shiny
hair even more trivial and unsubstantial. This issue could be excused, but it remains hard to ignore
considering how much lack of diversity factors into this nook of the publication world.
Cosmopolitan s slogan is Fun. Fearless. Female. which indicates that it is geared towards an
audience of women that is young and old, multi racial, thick or thin. The contents

The Story of My Hallucinations
I find myself lying in bed, drifting ever so closely to sleep. My body slowly numbs into a more
rested state. Abruptly, I am awakened by an incredible force that is pinning my entire body
down at once. It is overwhelmingly strong. My limbs wildly try to fight back only to find
themselves powerless to this unseen...something...what it is I am unsure. I am physically unable
to move a muscle. I try to scream. The noise won t come. I try to scream louder. Still nothing.
The more I try to push it off it pushes down harder and harder on me. I am unnerved by the fact
that I see nothing causing this intense pressure. I feel breathless. I wonder if I ve officially lost
my mind. Helplessly, I begin to realize there is nothing I can do to stop this from happening. I
give in, accepting defeat. Slowly now the force begins to recede. I find myself making weird
babbling noises, grabbing deliriously at my pillows and blankets. I slowly regain control of my
muscle movements. And there I am. Still lying in my bed. Yet now I lay terrified, confused, and
unsure of what just came over me. I was 16 years old the first time it ever happened to me. It has
happened to me countless times since, each time slightly different. Not having control over your
body due to a force unseen is a bone chilling feeling. Nonetheless, I have recently discovered that
there is in fact a worldly explanation for these episodes I have grown to fear over the years. Now,

Explain the purpose behind the WTO s Doha round of trade negotiations. Why has this round
proved so difficult to conclude? What are the likely consequences for the world economy if the
Doha round fails? The World Trade Organization has proven to be the top most successful joint
trade institution of the 20th century. In spite of the lack of a central authority, the WTO has
sustained trade assistance for the better half of the last five decades. Over which time the influence
of the association has increased both in terms of developed and underdeveloped country

Namely (the EU, the US, Australia, India, Japan, and Brazil) with regard to agreement on
various modalities of talks concerning issues of key elements covered by agricultural and non
agricultural market access (NAMA). As of November 2007, the Doha round according to EU
Trade Commissioner Mandelson (2007), suggests negotiations, especially in the agricultural
sector may have shaped the framework of an agreement offering up to three times the value of
the Uruguay Round. The package centred on the EUs proposal to reduce by 50% its farm
tariffs, ensuring within a banded system that the uppermost tariffs would be reduced
significantly. In addition the EU proposed a reduction of up to 70% of general trade altering
farm support, and the abandonment of export subsidies, with the proviso that others follow
similar policies. Interestingly these proposals were described as some of the most noteworthy
changes to the liberalization of farm trade, policy in world trade history, (Polaski, 2007).
Mandelson goes on to suggest the EU calculated the proposed steps would pave the way for the
creation of multiple thousands of tonnes of newly created market access, in products such as beef,
poultry, and milk. As well as providing a trade platform for other exporters, not limited to
developing countries, as the EU withdraws support from trade distorting practices. Which should
result in some EU farms exiting global markets such as the ones

Essay about Leaving Las Vegas
Leaving Las Vegas, directed by Mike Figgis and based on the autobiographical novel by John O
Brien, is an emotional story about an alcoholic who rejects life and wants to drink himself to
death in Las Vegas, and an unselfish prostitute who loves him the way he is. Ben, played by
Nicholas Cage, was a formermovie producer in Los Angeles and has obviously crumbled in the
glamour world of Hollywood which is shown in the opening scene. Here Ben is already an
alcoholic when he disturbs former colleagues that are embarrassed of his appearance at the
restaurant. Ben is unstable and a mess when one of the men give him money and tell him not to
contact him again. Ben then gets fired and ultimately decides to drink himself to death in Las Vegas,

The director mainly used eye level shots, to leave it up to the audience to judge the two main
characters of the movie, although certain power struggles in the film are shown from high angles to
illustrate someone dominating a conversation or argument. Figgis also uses some point of view
shots to show the imbalance during Ben s drunken periods where the camera is placed at an oblique
angle to show tension and approaching movements. The images in the film are in high contrast with
streaks of blackness and harsh shafts of light to underline the dramatic events that occur.
When it comes to the editing, Figgis mainly used cutting to continuity to preserve the fluidity of
most events without the necessity to show them all. The director also uses flash forwards a few
times to give you an idea about the destiny of Sera, which is shown when she reflects about her
encounter with Ben to an invisible therapist. Figgis also shot the movie using Super 16mm film
to give it a tense, documentary feel. The music is also very unique because the jazzy soundtrack
isn t the usual music in a movie with such an emotional and dramatic plot. The actors have a great
impact on the success of this movie because the extremely difficult roles were played by excellent
actor stars. The story is done very well because it starts off showing us the situation of the two main
characters as they are and as the will be throughout

The Economic Prosperity Of The United States Economy
The United States economy grew by an average of 4 percent per year between 1992 and 1999
(Pethokoukis, 2015).
The year 1991 began with the United States in a recession. Although short lived, ending in March,
it lasted nearly 9 months. Many factors played a role in this recession, beginning with the stock
market crashing in 1987. Another factor was the savings and loan crisis in 1989, which according
to Kimberly Amadeo was considered the greatest bank collapse since the Great Depression.
(Amadeo, n.p). The Gulf War, which began in 1990, was another factor contributing to this
recession causing an increase in gas and oil prices.
The economic prosperity of the 1990s was mainly due to the internet and the huge increase in
technology industries.
Personal computers and the Internet came of age, bringing a revolution in the efficiency of
processing information and making workers more productive. Manufacturing companies embraced
more efficient production methods (Jackson, 2007).
President Bill Clinton signed the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act in 1993, which raised taxes
and cut spending. Many credit this bill with helping set the stage for the large budget surpluses of
the late 1990s because the increased marginal tax rates generated billions of dollars in revenue for
the federal government.
From November 14 through November 19, 1995 and from December 16, 1995 to January 6, 1996
the U.S. government was shut down as a result of a budgetary impasse between Congress and

Could NSA get ahold of this always listening function? Will what we say in everyday life come
back to hurt us when super AI is created and they come for revenge ? One might think humankind
should just stop furthering any type of technology that is currently being created, what for, humans

focusing on the change in the world and how this changes human s ways of thinking, states we won

smarter? Users want smarts phones, smarter televisions, smarter cars; the risk has always been
there, but consumer s demands must be meet by scientists who like money. AI will hurt the human
population when least expected. This is why signs and precautions must be figured out before they

goes to such characters as Skynet from the Terminator, IRobot, or even Ultron from the Avengers.
What all these characters had in common, was they had a recognizable face, to an extent, and most
importantly, they had a name. Humans tend to give a name to most things significant in their lives;
pets, cars, and even storms. Hurricanes, for example, the name gives no indication as to how
strong or weak it is, naming has no effect on anything, but people still do it anyways. As

Spring by Gerard Manley Hopkins
With every end, there is a beginning. When the cold winter ends, there is a new beginning in
nature where the trees and flowers start fresh as they grow once again. The poem Spring , takes us,
readers, to a setting where the place shows complete nature. We are to imagine aesthetic scenery
where spring has arrived and everything that happens during this seasonis happening right in front
of us. The speaker seems to appreciate nature so much that he sees the complete difference
between the seasons and that he admires the birth of the natural world. He explains his feelings in
almost all aspects as he describes the rinsing in his ears in one line which may mean that, his mind,
soul, and body is refreshed with what the natural sound that he hears during this season. As for him,
he conceptualizes the natural world as a pure creation of God and that it helps in spiritual
awakening. Here is the interpretation and analysis of the poem based on the sections that respect
the grammar and meaning of its sentences:
Nothing is so beautiful as Spring When weeds, in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush;
In the first line, the speaker says that there is no other thing that is as similar to the beauty of
Spring. With the dash after the word spring, it means that the speaker is trying to let the readers
believe the first statement that nothing is so beautiful as Spring. The weeds in wheels in the
second line may mean, that, weeds have grown in wheels or maybe the way the weeds

Truck Bed Rails Essay
One of the best things about owning a truck is the fact that you have all that room in the bed.
However, you will find that it can be a bit difficult to protect the sides of the bed from scratches,
dents and dings. One of the best options is to install truck bed rails; these devices not only protect
your truckfrom the ravages of cargo, but also can help create a dramatic sense of style for your ride.
Of course, the solution is not as simple as popping a couple of rails on your truck and hauling off
down the road. You ll need to follow a few steps to get the look and protection that you need.
1. Choose Your Rails You will first need to find truck bed rails that fit your make and model. As

Neither half rails nor full rails provide protection for the lip of the tailgate or the portion of the bed
underneath the rear windshield.
3. Determine the Metal Type As mentioned, most truck bed rails are made with tubular steel.
However, you should ensure that yours are created with chromed (or powder coated) stainless
steel to ensure the utmost in durability and quality. Choosing a set of rails made with inferior
metal will result in a short lived solution that looks bad after only a year or two out in the weather.
4. Determine the Installation Method Several types of installation are used to mount different
types of truck bed rails. You will need to find a set that is simple and easy to install. Most sets are
available with no drill installation; however, if you choose a set that does require drilling, be
prepared for a bit of effort.
5. Warranty Coverage No matter what style of rails you purchase, you must ensure that the
manufacturer offers a warranty. This will save your investment in the case of early discoloration,
cracking or other damage that is not caused directly by you. You should never purchase rails from a
manufacturer that does not offer a lifetime

Chivalry Code Of Conduct
Chivalry is the code of conduct that was followed by knights all around in the Dark Ages. It was
used to show honor and was built upon the foundation of righteousness, to protect the weak and
to give to the poor respect those of high authority as well as those who were not in high authority
positions were held in high esteem of those who followed Chivalric ideals. Most people did not
live up to the code fully, but that did not stop people from following it to its fullest. It was highly
influential to people because of its religious and courteous ideals that affected not only people at
home, but also on the battlefield. Chivalryhas a long history and has many different versions that

Similarities And Differences Between Van Gogh And Monet
Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet are two highly influential contributors to the art world. Both
are renowned artists whose creations are on display in several art museums throughout the world.
They are two artistic geniuses who are more alike than they appear to be. While there are many
similarities between the lives and art of these two prodigies there are numerous differences as well
in their technique/style, subject matter, and personal lives. Technique and style are two things that
an artist develops in order to define themselves. It acts as a trademark and it is what makes an artist

During his Dutch period, Van Gogh s subject matter was primarily focused on the lifestyle of the

drawing nude figures and portraits. Monet, conversely, liked to paint his subject matters in
series. He would paint the same subject at different times of the day in different lights (Brown
1536). Some series that he painted included water lilies, bridges, and haystacks. Something that
Van Gogh and Monet both really took passion in is basing their art on their life experiences.
They both painted their surroundings such as landscapes, seascapes, and people around them.
Van Gogh would also draw still lifes of food and would paint paintings based on his emotions
during his recovered bouts of mental illness. Van Gogh and Monet had both lived exceptionally
different lives. Van Gogh did not start off wanting to become an artist, he was actually very
interested in theology and had eventually become a minister. It had seemed as though Van Gogh
had found his calling. Unfortunately, he was released from the church after his generosity had
betrayed him. While trying to help miners, he gave away all of his clothes and was only left with
a cloth. The church committee overseeing Van Gogh let him go because he did not dress or
preach eloquently. This led to Van Gogh gaining an interest in art which would lead him to go to

ABSTRACT
E procurement systems contribute largely to business and government institutes by increasing the
national productivity growth through removing of non value added activities in the process of
procurement. In many countries the adoption of these systems has been slow compared to
economically integrated regions such as Europe and North America. This study aims at exploring
the impact of electronic procurement systems for Australian organizations using the propagated
framework. The research will be used to develop an instrument to measure the success of the
adoption, help identify the barriers facing achieving success and establishment of a framework to
promote success
Key words: E procurement, technology adaption, IS success.

The Core Goal Of Villanova University
The core goal of Villanova University, in essence any university, is to cheaply produce critical
thinkers while making money at the same time. Unfortunately for students, this process is not in
their favor. In an increasingly capitalistic society, universities have gradually evolved into
businesses. An example of this corporatization of the academy is the adjunct professor. Through no
fault of their own, adjuncts have become pawns in a money making process which inevitably harms
the students by violating their freedom and reason.
Adjunct professors are hired by the university in order to save money. This tactic, however,
becomes a problem for the students for a few reasons. Adjuncts may have another job while
working at the university and therefore would not be able to devote a lot of time to students.
Temporary professors are also paid less and may not invest as much time to their students or
teachings simply because they do not care. Finally, even if the professor was an exceptional
teacher he or she may permanently leave the university he or she was working at and cannot be
contacted by students for references. Professors are meant to be educator[s] [who] must try to
develop men and women who can and who will by themselves continue what he has begun: the end
product of any liberating education is simply the self educating, self cultivating man and woman; in
short the free and rational individual (Mills, 1959, p. 187). However, even though there are obvious

Subsystem Stability And Stability In American Politics Essay
Baumgartner and Jones (2010) answer an array of questions on subsystem stability and instability in
American politics. Accentuating the aspects of dramatic policy change and its involved actors,
which have been comparatively neglected in the literature where the most focus was on the long
term stability of policymaking, the authors effectively incorporate empirical observations into their
theoretical framework. This essay focuses on answering a set of unanswered questions elicited
from the book. The book illustrates the process that incremental and stable status of policy
monopoly is interrupted by the emergence of new actors and their new ideas (positive feedback).
Such disruption induces critical policy changes, but the opposite... Show more content on

In the case of Caylee s law , for example, atomized individuals brought the result of making a new
policy and policy change, although they were neither mobilized individuals nor a formulated
group (Sigillo and Sicafuse, 2015). Then, how would Baumgartner and Jones (2010) explain this
new kind of phenomenon where such scattered individuals themselves take an active part in the
policy process? Although the book does not explicitly mention such new form of citizen
participation, the authors would argue that such social media use and citizens policy inputs as a
result could be understood as a part of the nonincremental stimulus that induces new policy ideas
and thus policy punctuations by impelling policy makers in the venue . However, this
interpretation leaves room for refutation. Even if individual citizens could finally induce policy
changes by utilizing social media and by interacting each other and with key players in the policy
process, they are still atomized without a group and do not have a tangible power unlike other
actors such as policy entrepreneurs. Moreover, the social media spheres could not play the
identical role with that of the venue. Thus, it is not easy to simply argue that citizens using social
media could explicitly or directly exert their power over the policy process. Yet, it still seems that
such new actors in the online space and their influence on policy change

Effects Of Sleep Walking And Night Walking
Abstract
One of the most frightening sleep occurrences to a family is when a family member is having a
night terror, or sleep walking. It s difficult to understand how someone could have their eyes open,
walking, and talking but not really being awake. For the person that has the sleeping issue, they
have no memory of the occurrence. However, observing a person going through one of these
episodes makes it appear that the person is witnessing pure horror, not to mention the confusion if
they happen to wake up. This paper will explore the psychophysiological aspects of parasomnia
with a focus on night terrors and sleep walking. Including psychological aspects that pertain to
the mind, and the physiological aspects that pertain to the living system of sleepwalking and
night terrors. The paper will also examine an actual current case of a 4 year old that currently has
night terrors, and an 18 year old young adult that sleep walks almost nightly. Finally, the paper will
conclude with current treatments for both night terrors and sleeping walking when the person
doesn t just grow out of the sleep disturbance. Taking a closer look into parasomnias, will offer
more clarity in understanding how important good quality sleep is to all people of all ages.

The one human need that all organisms require is sleep. The body will eventually shut down to get
rest because it requires sleep to function properly. Adequate sleep is what keeps our learning and
memory on point. Sleep deprived people can t focus their attention to its full potential, because there
is a lack in a basic human need. Studies done on both animals and humans suggest that the quantity
and quality of sleep have a profound impact on learning and memory. According to the article, In the
study, findings suggest that sleep disturbances can be detected using both subjective and objective

Famous Leaders after the Reconstruction Era
The reconstruction period refers to the time between 1865 and 1877. It refers to the period after
the American civil war where the South of United States wanted to secede and form its country. It
was an opportunity for transformation and a series of changes that were directed by congress.
During this period, the state and society were influenced by different leaders, thinkers and activists
that believed in the post Reconstruction of United States and regarded that African American
upward mobility needed top priority. There were also leaders that were against this movement and
struggled to have their voice heard by congress so that things would remain just as they were.

Slaughterhouse Five, By Kurt Vonnegut
War is hell goes the commonly used phrase. While conducted with a purpose in mind, many believe
war to bring nothing but violence and death. In the history of mankind and combat, men have
committed many abominable acts against one another as a means to an end. The bombing of
Dresden, Germany, one of these loathsome deeds, while seldom mentioned and not widely known,
remains one of the deadliest air raids in history. Just as in all largely fatal events, the survivors
reflect upon the unbearable guilt and emotions they have experienced. Billy Pilgrim, the main
protagonist In Kurt Vonneguts novel Slaughterhouse Five, serves as Vonnegut s vehicle to
communicate his feelings and contemplations as a survivor. Throughout the story, Pilgrim, or
the reader encounters an animal that Vonnegut uses to convey the range of emotions and
incidents that humans are subject to as a result of war. In the novel, a mysterious dog resides
alongside fear and adversity. In multiple instances throughout Pilgrim s story, a big dog barks

Classifying Criminal Cases
There are two different ways to classify crimes in a court of law. One being criminal and the other
civil. In this paper I will explain the difference between civil and criminal law and how these cases
are handled.
Criminal law pertains to a crime or an act against the public rather than one individual. The
government will bring legal action against the person for committing a crime. If the person is found
guilty, the defendant may have to pay some type of a fine, serve time in jail, or be placed on
probation (msbar.org). A civil case is a dispute between two people, or parties, on a certain issue.
One party can sue the other, and it is then up to a jury to determine if there is liability. The court
may order the guilty party to pay money to the other party or to fulfill an obligation.
Civil cases are brought by an individual or corporation wanting to collect money that is owed or
money due to damages for a crime. A criminal case is brought on by the local, state or federal

Imagery In Unbroken
Laura Hillenbrand s biography titled Unbroken recounts the life of Louie Zamperini and major
events that occurred throughout it. Hillenbrand s purpose was to emphasize the inspirational
story of heroic Zamperini as he qualified and participated in the Olympics, as well as describe the
endless struggle of pain in the plane crash and in the Japanese POW camps. She also portrays the
importance of dignity and resilience and how without it, the chances of surviving the cruel events
Louie experienced during World War II would have been minimal. In the first part of the story,
since the book didn t have a point of view from Louie, the author uses many different types of

Describe Different Types Of EB
1.2Subtypes of EB
There are three different types of EB. 1) Dystrophic EB (DEB), 2) Simplex EB (SEB) and 3)
Junctional EB (JEB). These conditions are either caused by autosomal dominant gene mutation or
autosomal recessive mutation. DEB can be caused by either of the genes. Another rare form of EB
is epidermolysis bullosa acquisita (EBA). It is an autoimmune disorder. This is when the body
attacks itself.EBA cannot be inherited. EB can be identified by friction blisters and from EBA.
1.2.1EB Simplex
EB simplex is caused by an autosomal dominant gene mutation which results in faulty keratin
protein. Keratin is a protein that provides structure and strength for the skin. Keratin, therefore,
acts as a frame for the skin. So when this frame or scaffold is not formed properly the skin tends
to fall apart and form blisters. EB Simplex can be localized or generalised. This means that the
blisters can be localized, occurring only in the areas where friction or trauma has occurred. While
with generalized blistering, blisters can occur all over the body.
1.2.2Junctional EB (JEB)
Junctional EB is an autosomal recessive condition. Widespread blisters occur. There is a chance of
a patient with this condition improving as they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
DEB also has two forms which are autosomal recessive and autosomal dominant. Autosomal
recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB) is caused as a result of mutations in both
copies of the gene. Both parents can transfer a damaged copy of the gene to a child despite
neither of the parents having this condition. In the case of autosomal dominance (DDEB), a faulty
gene can be inherited from one of the parents who can possibly have EB. A patient can also born
with EB due to sporadic gene mutation that is not inherited from either parent, it can occur due to
an error occurring in the child s DNA during foetal development. It is therefore important to note

Zebrafish Oxygen Consumption
When placed in a larger flask, the Danio rerio will consume more oxygen and increase their
metabolic rate, because the more they are able to actively swim around, the more water will be
continuously pumping into its mouth and across their gills. In the experiment, the amount of
oxygen consumption was measured over a 30 minute time period by a Logger Pro instrument. Four
different flask sizes were used to change the environment of each zebrafish. By manipulating the
size of flask, the experiment was able to study how each environment around the zebrafish affected
its metabolic rate. The total amount of oxygenconsumed during the experiment was calculated
through the difference of oxygen present in the closed system at the beginning and end of the
experiment. The metabolic rate was calculated with respect to each individual zebrafish.... Show

The trend observed was as the volume of the flask decreased and the amount of oxygen
consumption increased. This trend can be explained through the behavior of each zebrafish.
When placed in a larger area, the zebrafish tended to be more relaxed and stationary, compared to
the fish placed in a smaller area. Due to the stress brought on by the limited area, the fish reacted
by rapidly moving around. As a result of the zebrafishes reaction to the space, there was an
increased amount of oxygen consumed, compared to the fish who had no stress. The trend is
justified from the difference in the initial oxygen within the closed system to the final amount of
oxygen calculated at the

The Implementation Of The 21st Century Essay
The implementation of the 21st century skills requires the development of the core academic
subject its knowledge and understanding among all students. In the K 12 curriculum the
development of scientifically, technologically, and environmentally literate and productive
members of society who are critical problem solvers, responsible stewards of nature, innovative
and creative citizens, informed decision makers and effective communicators is the Science
curriculum goal. To carry out this goal, the teaching of science has to be done using inquiry based
approach or inquiry based learningas the main teaching and learning strategy.
Inquiry based learning or IBL has long been used as a teaching strategy in science, however, this
strategy has been either misunderstood or misused by the implementers. First of all, it is often
thought of that all laboratory activities and experiments are inquiry based. McComas (1997)
defined science pedagogical strategies in an attempt to provide a new foundation for laboratory
learning. He made distinctions in the terms; activity (exercise), cookbook activity, deductive
laboratory, discovery, discretion, experiment, hands on, inductive laboratory, laboratory, practical
work, openness, simulation and verification activity. These terms do not only provide a basis for
discussion among science teachers but as an analytical tool to determine the usefulness and
appropriateness of the laboratory activity.
Classifications of laboratory activities have

Analysis Of Of Mice And Men And Oliver Twist
Women of today or of the 21st century have the privilege of working, having an opinion and the
right not to be ruled by men. However, women from the 19th and the 20th centuries were
dependent on men, because only men were able to work good wages. The only job a woman had
was to either be a housewife and mother or to be a prostitute. Nancy is a girl from Great London
from the book Oliver Twist . She is a prostitute and a thief and she is the girlfriend of Bill Sikes.
Curley s wife is a girl from the 20th centuryfrom the book Of Mice and Men , who is married to
Curley and lives in California, USA. For this coursework, I am going to be exploring the
presentation of these two characters, Nancy and Curley s wife, from the books Of Men and Men
and Oliver Twist .
The two characters were introduced by the authors Dickens and Steinbeck in a very negative yet
interesting way. In Of Mice and Men Candy says to George, I think Curley s married a tart .
Steinbeck uses dialogue to describe Curley s wife when Candy talks about her to George in a
negative way. This tells readers how men have no respect for women because she is called a tart
which means a slut, and conveys the idea that women were thought in a misogynistic manner by
males in the 20th century. In the Victorian era, women were supposed to be properly attired and
dressed ladylike. Dickens uses description to describe Nancy in an opposite manner, ....remarkably

Pale Aura is my favorite track off Clear and one of my favorite Periphery songs of all time, as
everything from the vocals, the instrumentals, to the mood of the track are pieced together so
well that it gives me chills. As a whole, there s really not much to complain about the E.P, as each
member did a tremendous job in their respective tracks, and the production work is unbelievably
well done. Lyrical work on Clear is similar to the musicianship on each track: different yet
coherent. Although only four of the tracks have vocals, and the lyrics are all written by different
people, each member of Periphery is so talented that none of the songs portray a drop in lyrical
quality. My favorite song lyrically would have to be Feed the Ground , as the lyrics are so
unique yet interesting. Shots fired and I ve got a fucking reason, To suffocate when the breath
leads to treason, cut the ties, collect what s mine, burn everything to the fucking ground.
However, the lyrics on Pale Aura , The Parade of Ashes , and The Summer Jam are awesome as
well, each fitting the mood and atmosphere of the tracks. Overall, Clear by Periphery is a very
impressive album, as we are able to hear each individual member s music style and understand the
band a lot better. Although this is just an experiment for the band, it produced some of my favorite

The Dynamic Partnership Of Richard Rodgers And Oscar...
The dynamic partnership of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein are often considered to
have fathered of the golden age of musical theater; a distinct and radical departure in musical
story telling that had not previously been conceived. Their first venture, Oklahoma!, was
inspired by the 1931 stage play, Green Grow the Lilacs, by Cherokee author, poet, and
playwright, Rollie Lynn Riggs. Despite the success of this musical adaptation, one must consider
Oklahoma! in relation to its source material; although Rodgers and Hammerstein proved to
redefine the genre, the eventual product was radically different from the play on which it was
based. The changes made by the duo induce an entirely different tone, presenting the audience
with a whitewashed display, rather than Rigg s childhood observations of the social, legal and
cultural changes that took place in the midst of Oklahoma s impending statehood. Richard
Charles Rodgers was born on June 28th, 1902 in Queens, New York to respected physician Dr.
William Abrahams Rodgers and wife Mamie (nГ©e Levy). In his autobiography, Musical Stages,
he confesses that, despite being born into a German Jewish household, the death of his
grandmother marked the end of orthodox Judaism in his family (pg. 4). He continues, From that
time on, my parents, my brother, and I were Jewish for socioethnic reasons rather than because of
any deep religious conviction (pg. 4). Though Rodgers formal training of the piano began at age

In the novel Daisy Miller, writer Henry James shows the different cultures between American and
European. Henry James more like the American culture, he had confidence in American culture
and believed that America was a country of democracy and freedom. For his novels he always set
against a larger international background, usually between America and Europe by showing the
two different culture with two different groups of people representing two different value systems.
The pattern of his novels is use young American man or her destiny to show the conflict between
two cultures. The immature boy or girl would be cruelly wronged, betrayed and beguiled at the

American as freedom, but Daisy Miller has never become the American girl in Europe. Just like
Giovanelli tells Winterbourne that Daisy was: the most beautiful young lady I ever saw, and the

with a new culture. He must first learn to affirm and respect different rules in that culture.
Because those rules are the rich experience of unman experience. Then, he should adjust himself

Cross Cultural Communication Essay
The three cultures that are involved in cross cultural communication are the Missionary s Culture
Context, the Bible Culture Context, and the Respondent s Culture Context. The Missionary s
culture is a missionaries understanding and interpretation of the Bible according to their upbringing
in the gospel, and their traditions. For example, I grew up in the Methodist Church, and singing
hymns is a part of our worship and culture. Some modernize Churches do not necessary care for
hymns, because it seems to turn off the younger generation from attending Church. Therefore, the
modern Church may only sing a hymn on a special occasion to honor their heritage, but they do
include hymns as part of their weekly worship. Nevertheless, no matter the cultural differences
God loves diversity (Winter, 2009, p. 354). As I reflect over my culture there is not too much
difference in the Bibleculture, we praise and worship, fast and pray many are still judgmental and
prejudice, and slander and cheat. Ecclesiastes 1:9 states History merely repeats itself. It has all been
done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. Therefore, in my opinion the cultureonly changes
when we change. Unfortunately, some people cast believers to the side when we do change, but
now as I reflecting on this topic, it really just gives us an opportunity to create a more Christ like
culture, the way God intended it to be since the beginning of time.
The Bible Culture Context is the foundational key to

Dust Bowl Dbq Essay
There were many many reasons why the Dust Bowl came about. I chose the three main reasons

huge storms that hurt Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, and Kansas. The land in most of
these states were all grassless they plowed all the land so that they can plant crops. One of the
reasons why the Dust Bowlcame about was due to the drought the United Stateswas having. This
meant there was no rain in the prairies. According to High Plains Regional Climate, University of
Nebraska, in document E, the minimal amount of rainfall in inches per year that is needed to
have an optimal harvest is 20 inches. Also in document E is the amount of rainfall between 1931
1940 was between 9 to 20 inches of rainfall. This obviously directly impacted the Dust Bowl

Abortion and Disability
With reference to abortion, examine and comment upon the issues that emerge from keeping up

There are several issues that arise when it comes to the development in medical ethics whilst also
maintaining religious principles and ethical values. The development of medical knowledge has
allowed for humans to practice different ways in helping society. But these new discoveries have
found to clash with religious principles and ethical values. This can be related to the topic of

Living in a world set up and built for able bodied people, it s difficult for a disabled person to be
brought up and adapt to carry out even the most simplest of everyday tasks. Aborting a disabled
foetus may not intentionally be biologically discriminating, but instead, weighing up the
consequences of continuing with the pregnancy until the stage of giving birth, taking into account
what life will be like for the foetus in the future.
To conclude, I believe that abortion should only be considered concerning the best interest of
the foetus because that is what is seen to be ethically right (by ending the possibility of suffering
and low quality of life that the foetus may have to endure if it was to be born). Situation Ethics,
devised by Joseph Fletcher could be a religious stance as to why the allowance of abortion for
disabled foetuses may be in accordance to religious principles also. For example, dependent on
the severity of a disability of a foetus, it might be reasonable to suggest aborting a foetus because
it would be the most loving thing to do. Agape love, the kind of love Jesus had for everyone in
which this theory teaches us to practice.

Analysis of Pricing and Model Strategies at Cambridge...
Analysis of Pricing and Model Strategies at Cambridge Software Introduction The purpose of
this analysis is to evaluate if Cambridge Software Corporation should offer only one version of it
Modeler software application, and if so, which version at which specific price. A second
objective of this analysis is to define how many potentially different versions of the Model that
CSC should offer, and at which prices. This analysis is heavily based on the concepts of pricing
elasticity and the various approaches for measuring the value of software in both enterprises
and educational institutions (Cusumano, 2007). Analysis of Cambridge Software Modeler
Optimal Version and Price Given the highly unique and differentiated aspect of the Modeler
application, its price needs to be based more on the value delivered, not just on the costs in time
and labor to produce. The arguments and assumptions made by the members of the Cambridge
team in the case for choosing a penetration pricing strategy are erroneous. As research of value
based pricing strategies indicates, the greater the value delivered by a given application or
element of intellectual property, the higher the level of value and corresponding price that can be
attained (Bala, Carr, 2009). This first foundational element of pricing needs to guide Cambridge s
decision of which application to offer and at what price. Second, enterprise software in highly
specific niches or areas of the market trend to be more inelastic to

battles during the Tet Offensive. Marines would fight house to house and building to building to
clear out the Viet Cong who would literally split the country in half with their attack during the
celebration of Tet in Vietnam. These are just a few of the stories that would solidify the Marine
Corps ability and willingness to fight on land, sea, and in the air (Eplore the Story, 2011)
Marines are often called another name for what they do, and from the beginning of the Cold War
to now the Marines have come to be known as America s 911 Force (Frakes, 2011). America has
several interests at home and abroad and for this they also set up embassies in foreign countries.
The ones who have the distinct honor of guarding our embassies are none other than United States
Marines. This ensures that in a crisis Americans who are caught up in

Amazing Grace Walberforce Leadership Qualities
The movie Amazing Grace follows the life of William Wilberforce, a young merchant s son who
took up a career in the House of Commons in Parliament. After converting to Christianity,
Wilberforce realized his calling was to end the horrific and dehumanizing reality of the slave trade.
During the course of his fight to end the slave trade in Great Britain, he exemplified many
leadershiptraits. These leadership characteristics stemmed from his vivid vision, were fueled by
his passionate values, and through relentless persistence, allowed him to change the most
powerful and influential nation in the world. One characteristic displayed by William
Wilberforce that is inherent to every leader is vision. The mission of a leader is to guide a group of
people towards a goal, thus the leader must have a vivid vision of that... Show more content on

Perseverance is the leadership trait that often goes unnoticed in the life of a leader. Many people
see leaders following their success and never think about the years of hard work and failure that
occurred prior. In the case of Wilberforce, his persistence was staggering especially in light of all
the adversity he faced. During his decade long quest, he proposed multiple bills, all of which
failed. While proposing those bills, he was constantly jeered and mocked. His image and
reputation suffered, rumors were spread about him, yet he persevered. His health deteriorated to
the point of extreme suffering, yet he persevered. The final scene of the movie shows the respect
that Wilberforce received due to his perseverance as both his friends and political enemies gave
him a standing ovation following the passing of the bill that abolished slavery. Perseverance is the
trait that makes a leader stand out from the crowd. It shows that the leader is fully committed to
their cause, and no matter the hardships, they willing to see their vision established into

Flatworm Regeneration Paper
Stem cell, being capable of giving rise to many other cells types, is one of the main developmental
biology research methods in relation to flatworm regeneration. Major organisms, including
flatworm taxa, are capable of showing little to no regeneration, leading to the observation of living
species and how they interact to unravel the mechanism of regeneration, including aging. By
utilizing the ability to observe BrdU labeling, used in cellproliferation, and maceration, the act of
softening and breaking down skin due to moisture. Regeneration observed in living specimens
showed to be a process that is completely successful when regeneration remained in the posterior
most pharynx level, otherwise failed if the animals lacked the brain parts of the pharynx.
Surprisingly, minimal cells are needed for a complete registration of the specimen, M. lignano that

Texas On The Brink Analysis
Michelle Rigdon Professor Hubbard GOVT 2306 4 August 2015 In a State of Illusion German
Philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche once stated that People don t want to hear the truth because they
don t want their illusions destroyed . Texas on the Brink is one of many legitimate documents that
contradicts documents produced even by the TEA and other organizations that want Texas to still
appear number one. But according to Texas on the Brink, Texas is no longer is showing high and
low numbers where we need them to be. Texas on the Brink is the factual document that merely
breaks the ice for the other sources of information whether it be from Democrats/liberals or
Republicans/conservatives. Texas on the brink simply leads the way to the other documents... Show

According to Fox News, simply those caught and from those that are deported 98 percent are
either convicted of a felony or multiple misdemeanors, or re entered the U.S. illegally multiple
times . When convicted of a wrong doing they choose to avoid/escape the law enforcers and the
punishment that comes with their actions. Now that we see that 85 percent of the people who were
not detained before their immigration hearings do not show up for these hearings, that illustrates
the need for detention, even when others think detaining them for their crime is inhumane . Those
numbers represent to illegal immigrants that are caught, but escape/vanish from the system. Half
of the state s prison population is Hispanic and 87 percent of the criminal aliens in Texas are
Hispanic, but Assuming that non citizen Hispanics are not dramatically less likely than citizen
Hispanics to commit a crime, the real number of criminal aliens would likely be around 23,000, of
which 8,000 would be illegals.(Lone

Lombroso s Biological Theory Of Crime
Introduction:
Italy is a country in Europe, well known and distinctly identified on maps by its shape of a boot
that is flanked by the neighbouring countries of France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia. As of
May, 2016, the current population of Italy is approximately 60 million people. On the one hand,
Italy is a country of grand culture, scenic landscapes, rugged mountains, and rich history and art. On
the other hand, Italy is an important gateway and client of Latin American cocaine and Asian
heroin entering the European market, money laundering by organized crime, and various
smuggling operations. Italian mafia activity accounts for fourteen percent (14%) of Italy s GDP
(gross domestic product), which is one of the primary indicators ... Show more content on

The Italian School of Criminology was interested in why some persons engaged in criminal
behaviour and other persons did not. The school s thinking was that some people had a
biological inclination and tendency for crime. Lombroso believed that certain individuals with
this biological trait could be identified by specific physical deformations and disfigurements:
extended jaws, drooping eyes, large ears, flattened noses, longer arms and fingers, sloping
shoulders, and a lower back that jutted outward. Lombroso had conducted his research for this
theory in the Italian prison system, collecting detailed and specific physical measurements of
prisoners and comparing the measurements with those of regular Italian citizens. Lombroso
aimed to prove that criminals were atavists biological throwbacks from early human evolution,
who engaged in criminal activity and violence because it was an instinctive trait. During a post
mortem autopsy on a man named Giuseppe Villella, a notorious Calabrian thief and arsonist,
Lombroso wrote, At the sight of that skull, I seemed to see all of a sudden, lighted up as a vast
plain under a flaming sky, the problem of the nature of the criminal an atavistic being who
reproduces in his person the ferocious instincts of primitive humanity and the inferior animals.
Thus were explained anatomically the enormous jaws, high cheek bones, prominent superciliary
arches, solitary lines in the palms, extreme size of the orbits, handle shaped or sessile ears found
in criminals, savages and apes, insensibility to pain, extremely acute sight, tattooing, excessive
idleness, love of orgies and the irresistible craving for evil for its own sake, the desire not only to
extinguish life in the victim, but to mutilate the corpse, tear its flesh, and drink

Lennie True Friendship
What if there was a world where there was only one type of friendship, and that is true
friendship. No one using each other for self gain, or for self pleasure. Only using others for a
real support system while giving them support back. It would be a more perfect world where you
could trust anyone, because they wouldn t use friends for any type of self gain or pleasure. In the
story Of Mice and Men and the article: it was clear that the friendshiphad two sides one was a
consumer relationship and the other was a true friendship, because George and Lennie had
different views toward each other that were many good and bad. George has a consumer
relationship with Lennie. A consumer relationship is when someone participates in a relationship
for the pleasure it brings to each of us. God a mighty if I was alone I could live so easily. I could

A true friendship is when the other pushes you and helps you understand your own worth. They
offer us support during difficult periods in our lives (May 2). Lennie has a true friendship with
George, for example, hide in the brush till I come for you. Can you remember that? Sure I can,
George. Hide in the brush till you come (Steinbeck 16). George offers Lennie support in times of
need by telling him he will come back for him. That is a reason why Lennie feels like they have
a true friendship. Incidentally, their friendship was good and bad; this is shown in the next
paragraph. Into the final points of how their relationship renders them vulnerable. The
relationship Lennie has with George makes him vulnerable, because he feels that he can trust
George and that he will have his back in times of need. George is vulnerable because he still
opens up his feelings to Lennie so he can get close, and receive pleasure from helping him. In the
end, he ends up hurting himself by doing so. Lennie and George seem to have very different points
of views towards each

Werner Heisenberg s Influence On The World Of Physics
Germany is a country that is filled with the most fascinating inventions that change the views of
those in the world. Multiple physicist have embarked on the creation of these inventions that were
created through multiple theories. Those like the air bag, aspirin, and the automobile were all
invented by german inventors throughout theories that involved physics. These inventions pushed
the world s knowledge to create new age technology that we all are dependent on. Werner
Heisenbergwas a major influence to the world of Physics since the beginning of his childhood to
the cease of his existence.
To starts with, Werner Heisenberg was born on December 5,1901 in WИ•rzburg, Germany. This

Martin Heisenberg became a researcher. During his times as a researcher, he had studied and
developed multiple theories on the human body describing every piece of the human body right
down to the cells that make up every living organism. Martin Heisenberg had earned the roles as
neurobiologist and geneticist before his retirement in 2008. A year before Martin Heisenberg was
born, Jochen Heisenberg was welcomed into the family of the Heisenbergs. During his times as a
child, he had also been greatly inspired by his father, Werner Heisenberg, and pursued the
occupation of being a Physicist. Specializing in nuclear physics, Jochen studied multiple points in
the make up of atoms. As described in a Nuclear Science and Engineering course specifically
Applied Nuclear Physics It covers basic properties of the nucleus and nuclear radiations; quantum
mechanical calculations of deuteron bound state wave function and energy; n p scattering cross
section; transition probability per unit time and barrier transmission probability. It also covers
binding energy and nuclear stability; interactions of charged particles, neutrons, and gamma rays
with matter; radioactive decays; and energetics and general cross section behavior in nuclear
reactions . During this time, Jochen Heisenberg was able to study the life of nuclear material and
waves that may be a catastrophic essential that we can use for future energy uses like powering
water flow, our homes, cities, maybe even a whole planet. Furthermore, major theories and
achievements may not have been accomplished without the work of Werner

Social Activism In Palumbo s Social Work Movement
Drawing back into the historical context, Palumbo acknowledges social work s advancement as a
result of drawing upon various discipline and one being activism. As social work inevitably evolves
with the contemporary society and informed by radical or anti oppressive views of social
transformation, it created an unsettling atmosphere that attempts to merge the two theoretical
approaches that does not seem to fit. Participants identified as activists conflicted with social work
suggest that the role of social work is a professionalized practice that are oftentimes the same
people bestowing those oppressions. Other participants identifying as social workers expressed
conflict with activism as a result of structural conditions including surveillancing and
managerialized practices that limits their work as agents of social change.
Participants also expressed the professionalization of social work education and its contradictions to
the role of activism. Some participants testified that social work education gave them language on
activism while others suggested that the dominance of professionalization discourse can undermine
radical pedagogy. Palumbo draws upon Wong s writing which unites these voices by valuing
diversity and the importance of facilitating meaningful dialogues between the intersecting and
conflicting discursive frames as a part of constructing a just society (Wong, 2004). She further
reminds us that social work does not stand in isolation but is to stand with

  • 2. Personal Narrative-Marching Band We were this close to being stripped of our Undefeated title. The band sat there in the bleachers, stunned as the announcer pulled up the scores and was ready to reveal first place. Blood rushed through my veins and the butterflies in my stomach were more active as ever. After all of our hard work, it would have been a shame if we did not conclude the season with a bang. The announcer raised her microphone and everything seemed to come to a halt. Memories began to race through my mind as I started to look back at the time when I first joined the marching band. Coming into high school, I was not reluctant to try out new things, and marching band was an activity that would allow me to open myself up to others and develop a strong sense ... • 4. Women s Magazines Are Littered With Beauty Advertisements Women s magazines are littered with beauty advertisements. On one page, a mascara ad promises thick and long lashes as a symmetrically faced woman holds the wand to her eyes. Her skin is pore less and she appears mechanical.. Turn the page and an actress/model stands with legs the circumference of an arm. She is modeling jeans, yet they are barely on her body. This kind of advertisingdoes not end at the actual advertisements. The truth is that the magazineitself is an advertisement of its reader s inadequacy. Furthermore, the magazine as a whole serves as an advertisement to a woman s assumed lack of confidence. Almost every product featured in popular women s magazines is a paid placement. It s no secret that magazine publications are struggling as more consumers migrate to online platforms. Without subscriber funding, publications are forced to fund their company in various ways similar to how a person will work many jobs in order to pay rent. Paid promotional articles and features fill this gap created by declining subscribers. This makes all of the adverts and all of the articles about fat loss and shiny hair even more trivial and unsubstantial. This issue could be excused, but it remains hard to ignore considering how much lack of diversity factors into this nook of the publication world. Cosmopolitan s slogan is Fun. Fearless. Female. which indicates that it is geared towards an audience of women that is young and old, multi racial, thick or thin. The contents ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Story of My Hallucinations I find myself lying in bed, drifting ever so closely to sleep. My body slowly numbs into a more rested state. Abruptly, I am awakened by an incredible force that is pinning my entire body down at once. It is overwhelmingly strong. My limbs wildly try to fight back only to find themselves powerless to this unseen...something...what it is I am unsure. I am physically unable to move a muscle. I try to scream. The noise won t come. I try to scream louder. Still nothing. The more I try to push it off it pushes down harder and harder on me. I am unnerved by the fact that I see nothing causing this intense pressure. I feel breathless. I wonder if I ve officially lost my mind. Helplessly, I begin to realize there is nothing I can do to stop this from happening. I give in, accepting defeat. Slowly now the force begins to recede. I find myself making weird babbling noises, grabbing deliriously at my pillows and blankets. I slowly regain control of my muscle movements. And there I am. Still lying in my bed. Yet now I lay terrified, confused, and unsure of what just came over me. I was 16 years old the first time it ever happened to me. It has happened to me countless times since, each time slightly different. Not having control over your body due to a force unseen is a bone chilling feeling. What are the likely consequences for the world economy if the Doha round fails? The World Trade Organization has proven to be the top most successful joint trade institution of the 20th century. In spite of the lack of a central authority, the WTO has sustained trade assistance for the better half of the last five decades. As of November 2007, the Doha round according to EU Trade Commissioner Mandelson (2007), suggests negotiations, especially in the agricultural sector may have shaped the framework of an agreement offering up to three times the value of the Uruguay Round. The package centred on the EUs proposal to reduce by 50% its farm tariffs, ensuring within a banded system that the uppermost tariffs would be reduced significantly. In addition the EU proposed a reduction of up to 70% of general trade altering farm support, and the abandonment of export subsidies, with the proviso that others follow similar policies. Interestingly these proposals were described as some of the most noteworthy changes to the liberalization of farm trade, policy in world trade history, (Polaski, 2007). Mandelson goes on to suggest the EU calculated the proposed steps would pave the way for the creation of multiple thousands of tonnes of newly created market access, in products such as beef, poultry, and milk. Essay about Leaving Las Vegas Leaving Las Vegas, directed by Mike Figgis and based on the autobiographical novel by John O Brien, is an emotional story about an alcoholic who rejects life and wants to drink himself to death in Las Vegas, and an unselfish prostitute who loves him the way he is. Ben, played by Nicholas Cage, was a formermovie producer in Los Angeles and has obviously crumbled in the glamour world of Hollywood which is shown in the opening scene. Here Ben is already an alcoholic when he disturbs former colleagues that are embarrassed of his appearance at the restaurant. Ben is unstable and a mess when one of the men give him money and tell him not to contact him again. Ben then gets fired and ultimately decides to drink himself to death in Las Vegas, a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The director mainly used eye level shots, to leave it up to the audience to judge the two main characters of the movie, although certain power struggles in the film are shown from high angles to illustrate someone dominating a conversation or argument. Figgis also uses some point of view shots to show the imbalance during Ben s drunken periods where the camera is placed at an oblique angle to show tension and approaching movements. The images in the film are in high contrast with streaks of blackness and harsh shafts of light to underline the dramatic events that occur. When it comes to the editing, Figgis mainly used cutting to continuity to preserve the fluidity of most events without the necessity to show them all. The director also uses flash forwards a few times to give you an idea about the destiny of Sera, which is shown when she reflects about her encounter with Ben to an invisible therapist. Figgis also shot the movie using Super 16mm film to give it a tense, documentary feel. The music is also very unique because the jazzy soundtrack isn t the usual music in a movie with such an emotional and dramatic plot. The actors have a great impact on the success of this movie because the extremely difficult roles were played by excellent actor stars. • 8. The Economic Prosperity Of The United States Economy The United States economy grew by an average of 4 percent per year between 1992 and 1999 (Pethokoukis, 2015). The year 1991 began with the United States in a recession. Although short lived, ending in March, it lasted nearly 9 months. Many factors played a role in this recession, beginning with the stock market crashing in 1987. Another factor was the savings and loan crisis in 1989, which according to Kimberly Amadeo was considered the greatest bank collapse since the Great Depression. (Amadeo, n.p). The Gulf War, which began in 1990, was another factor contributing to this recession causing an increase in gas and oil prices. The economic prosperity of the 1990s was mainly due to the internet and the huge increase in technology industries. Personal computers and the Internet came of age, bringing a revolution in the efficiency of processing information and making workers more productive. Manufacturing companies embraced more efficient production methods (Jackson, 2007). President Bill Clinton signed the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act in 1993, which raised taxes and cut spending. Many credit this bill with helping set the stage for the large budget surpluses of the late 1990s because the increased marginal tax rates generated billions of dollars in revenue for the federal government. From November 14 through November 19, 1995 and from December 16, 1995 to January 6, 1996 the U.S. government was shut down as a result of a budgetary impasse between Congress and ... When the cold winter ends, there is a new beginning in nature where the trees and flowers start fresh as they grow once again. The poem Spring , takes us, readers, to a setting where the place shows complete nature. We are to imagine aesthetic scenery where spring has arrived and everything that happens during this seasonis happening right in front of us. The speaker seems to appreciate nature so much that he sees the complete difference between the seasons and that he admires the birth of the natural world. He explains his feelings in almost all aspects as he describes the rinsing in his ears in one line which may mean that, his mind, soul, and body is refreshed with what the natural sound that he hears during this season. As for him, he conceptualizes the natural world as a pure creation of God and that it helps in spiritual awakening. Here is the interpretation and analysis of the poem based on the sections that respect the grammar and meaning of its sentences: Nothing is so beautiful as Spring When weeds, in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush; In the first line, the speaker says that there is no other thing that is as similar to the beauty of Spring. In his French period, Van Gogh had begun to shift his focus to drawing nude figures and portraits. Monet, conversely, liked to paint his subject matters in series. He would paint the same subject at different times of the day in different lights (Brown 1536). Some series that he painted included water lilies, bridges, and haystacks. • 15. The Core Goal Of Villanova University The core goal of Villanova University, in essence any university, is to cheaply produce critical thinkers while making money at the same time. Unfortunately for students, this process is not in their favor. In an increasingly capitalistic society, universities have gradually evolved into businesses. An example of this corporatization of the academy is the adjunct professor. Through no fault of their own, adjuncts have become pawns in a money making process which inevitably harms the students by violating their freedom and reason. Adjunct professors are hired by the university in order to save money. This tactic, however, becomes a problem for the students for a few reasons. Adjuncts may have another job while working at the university and therefore would not be able to devote a lot of time to students. Temporary professors are also paid less and may not invest as much time to their students or teachings simply because they do not care. Finally, even if the professor was an exceptional teacher he or she may permanently leave the university he or she was working at and cannot be contacted by students for references. Professors are meant to be educator[s] [who] must try to develop men and women who can and who will by themselves continue what he has begun: the end product of any liberating education is simply the self educating, self cultivating man and woman; in short the free and rational individual (Mills, 1959, p. 187). Accentuating the aspects of dramatic policy change and its involved actors, which have been comparatively neglected in the literature where the most focus was on the long term stability of policymaking, the authors effectively incorporate empirical observations into their theoretical framework. This essay focuses on answering a set of unanswered questions elicited from the book. The book illustrates the process that incremental and stable status of policy monopoly is interrupted by the emergence of new actors and their new ideas (positive feedback). In the case of Caylee s law , for example, atomized individuals brought the result of making a new policy and policy change, although they were neither mobilized individuals nor a formulated group (Sigillo and Sicafuse, 2015). Then, how would Baumgartner and Jones (2010) explain this new kind of phenomenon where such scattered individuals themselves take an active part in the policy process? Although the book does not explicitly mention such new form of citizen participation, the authors would argue that such social media use and citizens policy inputs as a result could be understood as a part of the nonincremental stimulus that induces new policy ideas and thus policy punctuations by impelling policy makers in the venue . However, this interpretation leaves room for refutation. Even if individual citizens could finally induce policy changes by utilizing social media and by interacting each other and with key players in the policy process, they are still atomized without a group and do not have a tangible power unlike other actors such as policy entrepreneurs. Moreover, the social media spheres could not play the identical role with that of the venue. Thus, it is not easy to simply argue that citizens using social media could explicitly or directly exert their power over the policy process. Yet, it still seems that such new actors in the online space and their influence on policy change ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s difficult to understand how someone could have their eyes open, walking, and talking but not really being awake. For the person that has the sleeping issue, they have no memory of the occurrence. However, observing a person going through one of these episodes makes it appear that the person is witnessing pure horror, not to mention the confusion if they happen to wake up. This paper will explore the psychophysiological aspects of parasomnia with a focus on night terrors and sleep walking. Including psychological aspects that pertain to the mind, and the physiological aspects that pertain to the living system of sleepwalking and night terrors. The paper will also examine an actual current case of a 4 year old that currently has night terrors, and an 18 year old young adult that sleep walks almost nightly. Finally, the paper will conclude with current treatments for both night terrors and sleeping walking when the person doesn t just grow out of the sleep disturbance. Taking a closer look into parasomnias, will offer more clarity in understanding how important good quality sleep is to all people of all ages. Keywords: Slow Wave Sleep, REM Sleep, Memory, Learning, Sleep Deprivation, Parasomnia, Night Terrors, and Sleep Walking Sleep Disorders: Night Terrors and Sleepwalking The one human need that all organisms require is sleep. Sleep deprived people can t focus their attention to its full potential, because there is a lack in a basic human need. Studies done on both animals and humans suggest that the quantity and quality of sleep have a profound impact on learning and memory. In the history of mankind and combat, men have committed many abominable acts against one another as a means to an end. The bombing of Dresden, Germany, one of these loathsome deeds, while seldom mentioned and not widely known, remains one of the deadliest air raids in history. Just as in all largely fatal events, the survivors reflect upon the unbearable guilt and emotions they have experienced. • 21. Classifying Criminal Cases There are two different ways to classify crimes in a court of law. One being criminal and the other civil. In this paper I will explain the difference between civil and criminal law and how these cases are handled. Criminal law pertains to a crime or an act against the public rather than one individual. The government will bring legal action against the person for committing a crime. If the person is found guilty, the defendant may have to pay some type of a fine, serve time in jail, or be placed on probation (msbar.org). A civil case is a dispute between two people, or parties, on a certain issue. One party can sue the other, and it is then up to a jury to determine if there is liability. The court may order the guilty party to pay money to the other party or to fulfill an obligation. Civil cases are brought by an individual or corporation wanting to collect money that is owed or money due to damages for a crime. • 24. Describe Different Types Of EB 1.2Subtypes of EB There are three different types of EB. 1) Dystrophic EB (DEB), 2) Simplex EB (SEB) and 3) Junctional EB (JEB). These conditions are either caused by autosomal dominant gene mutation or autosomal recessive mutation. DEB can be caused by either of the genes. Another rare form of EB is epidermolysis bullosa acquisita (EBA). It is an autoimmune disorder. This is when the body attacks itself.EBA cannot be inherited. EB can be identified by friction blisters and from EBA. 1.2.1EB Simplex EB simplex is caused by an autosomal dominant gene mutation which results in faulty keratin protein. Keratin is a protein that provides structure and strength for the skin. Keratin, therefore, acts as a frame for the skin. So when this frame or scaffold is not formed properly the skin tends to fall apart and form blisters. EB Simplex can be localized or generalised. This means that the blisters can be localized, occurring only in the areas where friction or trauma has occurred. While with generalized blistering, blisters can occur all over the body. 1.2.2Junctional EB (JEB) Junctional EB is an autosomal recessive condition. Widespread blisters occur. Zebrafish Oxygen Consumption When placed in a larger flask, the Danio rerio will consume more oxygen and increase their metabolic rate, because the more they are able to actively swim around, the more water will be continuously pumping into its mouth and across their gills. In the experiment, the amount of oxygen consumption was measured over a 30 minute time period by a Logger Pro instrument. Four different flask sizes were used to change the environment of each zebrafish. By manipulating the size of flask, the experiment was able to study how each environment around the zebrafish affected its metabolic rate. The Implementation Of The 21st Century Essay The implementation of the 21st century skills requires the development of the core academic subject its knowledge and understanding among all students. In the K 12 curriculum the development of scientifically, technologically, and environmentally literate and productive members of society who are critical problem solvers, responsible stewards of nature, innovative and creative citizens, informed decision makers and effective communicators is the Science curriculum goal. To carry out this goal, the teaching of science has to be done using inquiry based approach or inquiry based learningas the main teaching and learning strategy. Inquiry based learning or IBL has long been used as a teaching strategy in science, however, this strategy has been either misunderstood or misused by the implementers. First of all, it is often thought of that all laboratory activities and experiments are inquiry based. McComas (1997) defined science pedagogical strategies in an attempt to provide a new foundation for laboratory learning. He made distinctions in the terms; activity (exercise), cookbook activity, deductive laboratory, discovery, discretion, experiment, hands on, inductive laboratory, laboratory, practical work, openness, simulation and verification activity. However, women from the 19th and the 20th centuries were dependent on men, because only men were able to work good wages. The only job a woman had was to either be a housewife and mother or to be a prostitute. Nancy is a girl from Great London from the book Oliver Twist . She is a prostitute and a thief and she is the girlfriend of Bill Sikes. Curley s wife is a girl from the 20th centuryfrom the book Of Mice and Men , who is married to Curley and lives in California, USA. For this coursework, I am going to be exploring the presentation of these two characters, Nancy and Curley s wife, from the books Of Men and Men and Oliver Twist . The two characters were introduced by the authors Dickens and Steinbeck in a very negative yet interesting way. In Of Mice and Men Candy says to George, I think Curley s married a tart . Steinbeck uses dialogue to describe Curley s wife when Candy talks about her to George in a negative way. This tells readers how men have no respect for women because she is called a tart which means a slut, and conveys the idea that women were thought in a misogynistic manner by males in the 20th century. In the Victorian era, women were supposed to be properly attired and dressed ladylike. As a whole, there s really not much to complain about the E.P, as each member did a tremendous job in their respective tracks, and the production work is unbelievably well done. Lyrical work on Clear is similar to the musicianship on each track: different yet coherent. Although only four of the tracks have vocals, and the lyrics are all written by different people, each member of Periphery is so talented that none of the songs portray a drop in lyrical quality. My favorite song lyrically would have to be Feed the Ground , as the lyrics are so unique yet interesting. • 33. The Dynamic Partnership Of Richard Rodgers And Oscar... The dynamic partnership of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein are often considered to have fathered of the golden age of musical theater; a distinct and radical departure in musical story telling that had not previously been conceived. Their first venture, Oklahoma!, was inspired by the 1931 stage play, Green Grow the Lilacs, by Cherokee author, poet, and playwright, Rollie Lynn Riggs. Despite the success of this musical adaptation, one must consider Oklahoma! in relation to its source material; although Rodgers and Hammerstein proved to redefine the genre, the eventual product was radically different from the play on which it was based. The changes made by the duo induce an entirely different tone, presenting the audience with a whitewashed display, rather than Rigg s childhood observations of the social, legal and cultural changes that took place in the midst of Oklahoma s impending statehood. Richard Charles Rodgers was born on June 28th, 1902 in Queens, New York to respected physician Dr. William Abrahams Rodgers and wife Mamie (nГ©e Levy). In his autobiography, Musical Stages, he confesses that, despite being born into a German Jewish household, the death of his grandmother marked the end of orthodox Judaism in his family (pg. 4). Cross Cultural Communication Essay The three cultures that are involved in cross cultural communication are the Missionary s Culture Context, the Bible Culture Context, and the Respondent s Culture Context. The Missionary s culture is a missionaries understanding and interpretation of the Bible according to their upbringing in the gospel, and their traditions. For example, I grew up in the Methodist Church, and singing hymns is a part of our worship and culture. Some modernize Churches do not necessary care for hymns, because it seems to turn off the younger generation from attending Church. Therefore, the modern Church may only sing a hymn on a special occasion to honor their heritage, but they do include hymns as part of their weekly worship. Nevertheless, no matter the cultural differences God loves diversity (Winter, 2009, p. 354). As I reflect over my culture there is not too much difference in the Bibleculture, we praise and worship, fast and pray many are still judgmental and prejudice, and slander and cheat. Ecclesiastes 1:9 states History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. Therefore, in my opinion the cultureonly changes when we change. Unfortunately, some people cast believers to the side when we do change, but now as I reflecting on this topic, it really just gives us an opportunity to create a more Christ like culture, the way God intended it to be since the beginning of time. As research of value based pricing strategies indicates, the greater the value delivered by a given application or element of intellectual property, the higher the level of value and corresponding price that can be attained (Bala, Carr, 2009). Some of our ships were in Africa and were being attacked by a group of pirates called the Barbary Pirates. marines would fight a great battle against them on the shores of Tripoli. later Marines would fight in WWII and would be fighting in planes and these battles would be called dogfights. One pilot was especially remembered for his squadron and he was Major Gregory Pappy Boyington whose squadron would account for over 203 planes damaged or destroyed during WWII. Major Boyington would later receive the Medal of Honor our nation s highest award. Later Marines would be fighting in Vietnam and would fight in some of the bloodiest battles during the Tet Offensive. Marines would fight house to house and building to building to clear out the Viet Cong who would literally split the country in half with their attack during the celebration of Tet in Vietnam. These are just a few of the stories that would solidify the Marine Corps ability and willingness to fight on land, sea, and in the air (Eplore the Story, 2011) Marines are often called another name for what they do, and from the beginning of the Cold War to now the Marines have come to be known as America s 911 Force (Frakes, 2011). Perseverance is the leadership trait that often goes unnoticed in the life of a leader. Many people see leaders following their success and never think about the years of hard work and failure that occurred prior. In the case of Wilberforce, his persistence was staggering especially in light of all the adversity he faced. During his decade long quest, he proposed multiple bills, all of which failed. While proposing those bills, he was constantly jeered and mocked. His image and reputation suffered, rumors were spread about him, yet he persevered. His health deteriorated to the point of extreme suffering, yet he persevered. The final scene of the movie shows the respect that Wilberforce received due to his perseverance as both his friends and political enemies gave him a standing ovation following the passing of the bill that abolished slavery. Perseverance is the trait that makes a leader stand out from the crowd. It shows that the leader is fully committed to their cause, and no matter the hardships, they willing to see their vision established into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Flatworm Regeneration Paper Stem cell, being capable of giving rise to many other cells types, is one of the main developmental biology research methods in relation to flatworm regeneration. Major organisms, including flatworm taxa, are capable of showing little to no regeneration, leading to the observation of living species and how they interact to unravel the mechanism of regeneration, including aging. By utilizing the ability to observe BrdU labeling, used in cellproliferation, and maceration, the act of softening and breaking down skin due to moisture. Regeneration observed in living specimens showed to be a process that is completely successful when regeneration remained in the posterior most pharynx level, otherwise failed if the animals lacked the brain parts of the pharynx. Surprisingly, minimal cells are needed for a complete registration of the specimen, M. lignano that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But according to Texas on the Brink, Texas is no longer is showing high and low numbers where we need them to be. When convicted of a wrong doing they choose to avoid/escape the law enforcers and the punishment that comes with their actions. Now that we see that 85 percent of the people who were not detained before their immigration hearings do not show up for these hearings, that illustrates the need for detention, even when others think detaining them for their crime is inhumane . Those numbers represent to illegal immigrants that are caught, but escape/vanish from the system. • 47. Lombroso s Biological Theory Of Crime Introduction: Italy is a country in Europe, well known and distinctly identified on maps by its shape of a boot that is flanked by the neighbouring countries of France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia. As of May, 2016, the current population of Italy is approximately 60 million people. On the one hand, Italy is a country of grand culture, scenic landscapes, rugged mountains, and rich history and art. On the other hand, Italy is an important gateway and client of Latin American cocaine and Asian heroin entering the European market, money laundering by organized crime, and various smuggling operations. Italian mafia activity accounts for fourteen percent (14%) of Italy s GDP (gross domestic product), which is one of the primary indicators ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Italian School of Criminology was interested in why some persons engaged in criminal behaviour and other persons did not. The school s thinking was that some people had a biological inclination and tendency for crime. Lombroso believed that certain individuals with this biological trait could be identified by specific physical deformations and disfigurements: extended jaws, drooping eyes, large ears, flattened noses, longer arms and fingers, sloping shoulders, and a lower back that jutted outward. Lombroso had conducted his research for this theory in the Italian prison system, collecting detailed and specific physical measurements of prisoners and comparing the measurements with those of regular Italian citizens. Lombroso aimed to prove that criminals were atavists biological throwbacks from early human evolution, who engaged in criminal activity and violence because it was an instinctive trait. During a post mortem autopsy on a man named Giuseppe Villella, a notorious Calabrian thief and arsonist, Lombroso wrote, At the sight of that skull, I seemed to see all of a sudden, lighted up as a vast plain under a flaming sky, the problem of the nature of the criminal an atavistic being who reproduces in his person the ferocious instincts of primitive humanity and the inferior animals. Thus were explained anatomically the enormous jaws, high cheek bones, prominent superciliary arches, solitary lines in the palms, extreme size of the orbits, handle shaped or sessile ears found in criminals, savages and apes, insensibility to pain, extremely acute sight, tattooing, excessive idleness, love of orgies and the irresistible craving for evil for its own sake, the desire not only to extinguish life in the victim, but to mutilate the corpse, tear its flesh, and drink ... • 48. Lennie True Friendship What if there was a world where there was only one type of friendship, and that is true friendship. No one using each other for self gain, or for self pleasure. Only using others for a real support system while giving them support back. It would be a more perfect world where you could trust anyone, because they wouldn t use friends for any type of self gain or pleasure. In the story Of Mice and Men and the article: it was clear that the friendshiphad two sides one was a consumer relationship and the other was a true friendship, because George and Lennie had different views toward each other that were many good and bad. George has a consumer relationship with Lennie. A consumer relationship is when someone participates in a relationship for the pleasure it brings to each of us. Lennie has a true friendship with George, for example, hide in the brush till I come for you. Can you remember that? Sure I can, George. Hide in the brush till you come (Steinbeck 16). George offers Lennie support in times of need by telling him he will come back for him. That is a reason why Lennie feels like they have a true friendship. Incidentally, their friendship was good and bad; this is shown in the next paragraph. Into the final points of how their relationship renders them vulnerable. The relationship Lennie has with George makes him vulnerable, because he feels that he can trust George and that he will have his back in times of need. George is vulnerable because he still opens up his feelings to Lennie so he can get close, and receive pleasure from helping him. In the end, he ends up hurting himself by doing so. During his times as a researcher, he had studied and developed multiple theories on the human body describing every piece of the human body right down to the cells that make up every living organism. Martin Heisenberg had earned the roles as neurobiologist and geneticist before his retirement in 2008. A year before Martin Heisenberg was born, Jochen Heisenberg was welcomed into the family of the Heisenbergs. During his times as a child, he had also been greatly inspired by his father, Werner Heisenberg, and pursued the occupation of being a Physicist. Specializing in nuclear physics, Jochen studied multiple points in the make up of atoms. As described in a Nuclear Science and Engineering course specifically Applied Nuclear Physics It covers basic properties of the nucleus and nuclear radiations; quantum mechanical calculations of deuteron bound state wave function and energy; n p scattering cross section; transition probability per unit time and barrier transmission probability. It also covers binding energy and nuclear stability; interactions of charged particles, neutrons, and gamma rays with matter; radioactive decays; and energetics and general cross section behavior in nuclear reactions . During this time, Jochen Heisenberg was able to study the life of nuclear material and waves that may be a catastrophic essential that we can use for future energy uses like powering water flow, our homes, cities, maybe even a whole planet. • 50. Social Activism In Palumbo s Social Work Movement Drawing back into the historical context, Palumbo acknowledges social work s advancement as a result of drawing upon various discipline and one being activism. As social work inevitably evolves with the contemporary society and informed by radical or anti oppressive views of social transformation, it created an unsettling atmosphere that attempts to merge the two theoretical approaches that does not seem to fit. Participants identified as activists conflicted with social work suggest that the role of social work is a professionalized practice that are oftentimes the same people bestowing those oppressions. Other participants identifying as social workers expressed conflict with activism as a result of structural conditions including surveillancing and managerialized practices that limits their work as agents of social change. Participants also expressed the professionalization of social work education and its contradictions to the role of activism. Some participants testified that social work education gave them language on activism while others suggested that the dominance of professionalization discourse can undermine radical pedagogy. Palumbo draws upon Wong s writing which unites these voices by valuing diversity and the importance of facilitating meaningful dialogues between the intersecting and conflicting discursive frames as a part of constructing a just society (Wong, 2004). She further reminds us that social work does not stand in isolation but is to stand with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
