Individuals and companies that are shaping the future of this exciting space that surrounds us and impacts us all will present their latest research findings, tech developments and vision for the future.
It’s a full-on two days of learning, networking and exploring technologies and concepts that are now and will continue to change way we as individuals and organisations work, rest and play. The focus is Artificial Intelligence (AI), Digitization 2.0 (about making companies, processes and people ready for AI), Deep Learning and other topics identified by our community, who are specialists working in scientific and technical information.
The event features around 22 speakers over two days, plus an exhibition to complement the conference programme.
In 2020, based on attendee feedback, we are combining all the concepts the ICIC and II-SDV-Meetings in this one event in Nice.
As past attendees tell us, it’s a fabulous location and, beyond the formal meetings taking place in the conference and exhibition space, we make the most of this gorgeous location for informal evening receptions under the stars and networking dinners.
The size of the group makes it perfect for individuals from all sides of the information and tech space to meet and spend time together formally and also socially.
According to our exhibitors and attendees, the size of the event, the beautiful location and mix of people is why they return year after year. It’s where they learn, stay on top of developments, meet peers, find new collaboration opportunities and do business.
That’s why they return – and we hope you will join us too in 2020 and contribute to our programme as an attendee, speaker or exhibitor – and we look forward to welcoming you.

Leveraging the Crowd: Supporting Newcomers to Build an OSS CommunityMarco Aurelio Gerosa
Keynote delivered at the Paris Workshop at the International Conference on Global Software Engineering
Abstract:
Open Source Software is an important economic driving force. Companies are aware of the benefits and are adopting OSS as a strategy, opening their source code. However, fostering an OSS developer community is challenging. Newcomers to OSS projects face many technical and social barriers and commonly drop out before making their first contribution. In this keynote, I will talk about how companies are opening their code, the barriers newcomers face to join OSS projects, and FLOSSCoach, a tool we developed to support newcomers first steps.
Bio:

Building Successful API Programs in Higher Education3scale
In this webinar, hosted on August 27, 2015, Steven Willmott discusses the benefits of API development in higher education.
APIs are not exclusive to for-profit organizations. In higher education—from statewide university and college systems to smaller private institutions—schools like Notre Dame and Brigham Young University have built highly successful API programs.
The Information Architecture Gateway will offer a set of Information Architecture library and research tools that we bring together from different disciplines within IA to serve other ecosystems and to help them learn and discover IA in their own ecosystems.
In this talk, I will discuss the importance of the FAIR principles for the software tools we use to process data. Ranging from small analysis scripts to full fledged data processing pipelines, software needs to be FAIR to enable other researchers to reproduce our own experiments and reuse our software. However software and data are fundamentally different – software is executable in nature and may have intricate dependencies. FAIR principles apply differently to software than they do to data and we must be aware of these differences. Existing initiatives such as the RDA FAIR for Research Software (FAIR4RS) working group (https://www.rd-alliance.org/groups/fair-4-research-software-fair4rs-wg) and http://fair-software.eu/ are already focused on addressing these differences and raising awareness of the importance of FAIR for software.
The “How FAIR are you” webinar series and hackathon aim at increasing and facilitating the uptake of FAIR approaches into software, training materials and cohort data, to facilitate responsible and ethical data and resource sharing and implementation of federated applications for data analysis.
The CINECA webinar series aims to discuss ways to address common challenges and share best practices in the field of cohort data analysis, as well as distribute CINECA project results. All CINECA webinars include an audience Q&A session during which attendees can ask questions and make suggestions. Please note that all webinars are recorded and available for posterior viewing.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

In today's fast-changing business world, Companies that adapt and embrace new ideas often need help to keep up with the competition. However, fostering a culture of innovation takes much work. It takes vision, leadership and willingness to take risks in the right proportion. Sachin Dev Duggal, co-founder of Builder.ai, has perfected the art of this balance, creating a company culture where creativity and growth are nurtured at each stage.

WORKSHOPS
For each workshop LatinX in AI partners with companies
and individuals to raise money towards the LXAI
conference travel and registration grant fund. Grants are
awarded to our members, predominantly students from
Latin American countries and Hispanic Serving
Institutions in the US.
Awards can be used towards the cost of travel,
accommodation, registration, visa fees, or per diem
meals during the co-located conference. This makes the
difference of being able to attend or not for students
who are traditionally underfunded or coming from
developing countries.

24. MENTOR MATCHING
ALGORITHM
Research Mentoring Programs Automated Matching.
This project was built for LatinX in AI to faciliate their
mentor matching program which pairs willing mentors
in industry and academia with aspiring AI engineers
(who are of a LatinX background). The system works
off of data compiled via an application form and then
out put to .xlsx files. The program is used via the CLI
and takes in data through a mentors sheet and a
mentees sheet before cleaning the data and
instantiating all applicants to mentor and mentee
objects, and then assigning mentees to mentors.
