The document discusses propaganda posters during World War I in the United States. It explains that propaganda posters were a major tool used to influence public opinion because U.S. involvement in the war was unpopular. Posters presented simplistic messages to sway views and support the war effort. Posters were more effective than previous methods since lithography allowed mass production and distribution of visual messages to large audiences.

The document discusses misconceptions that Westerners have about the treatment of women in Islam. It argues that contrary to popular beliefs in the West, Islam actually liberated women from oppression and gives women many rights, such as owning property, getting an education, working, and more. It says the veil is widely misunderstood and does not represent oppression. While men and women have some differences in roles, they are equal in many ways, as in other religions. The purpose is to counter common stereotypes that portray women in Islam as disrespected, mistreated, and oppressed.

Ford Motor Company is undergoing a transformation that is putting their customers at the center of

4. The Amendment Of The 14th Amendment
Paper #1 Essay Question #2 Imagine living in a world where everyone was considered equal. Imagine
living in a world where people were considerate of others. Imagine living in a world where everyone
had the same rights and privileges. The Framers took a step at achieving this world with the passage of
the 14th amendment. The intent of the 14th amendment was to prevent state governments from
denying African Americans in the U.S. from their citizenship. At the time Africans were unable to
attain citizenship because of their skin color. The Framer s objective in formulating the 14th
amendment was to grant citizenship to everyone born in the U.S., regardless of skin color. The 14th
amendment expanded the protection of civil rights to all citizens in America. Barron V. Baltimore
(1833) is a significant case in history because it concluded that the fundamental rights provided by the
Bill of Rights were not guaranteed by the state. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Baltimore,
concluding hat the 5th amendment was limited and should be followed by the Federal government.
Through this case, Supreme Court Justice John Marshall declared that the Bill of Rights applied to the
federal government, not including the states. According to Section 1 of the 14th Amendment,
government laws must not abridge upon the life, liberty, or property on an individual without just
cause . Because of the Due Process Clause in the 14th amendment, the decision in Barron V.

5. Separation Of Church And State Essay
Separation of Church and State
By the middle of the 20th Century, the United States had emerged as a world power. It accomplished
this through its leadership in defeating Germany and
Japan in World War II. These two countries main objective was to enslave the world and destroy
political, religious, and economic freedom. In Germany or
Japan, anyone who disagreed with these goals, or was different was destroyed.
This was a common practice in these two fascist countries. Unfortunately, at the same time of its
emergence as a world power, the United States began to slip into a form of judicial fascism. This slide
began when the U.S. Supreme Court began to abandon the religious principles on which this nation

The Supreme Court says that these men s intent was to keep religion and politics separate. John
Quincy Adams, in a speech on July 4,1837 asked the crowd, Why is it, that next to the birthday of the
Savior of the World, your most joyous and venerated festival returns on this day? He goes on to
explain the important ties between the birthday of the nation and the birthday of Jesus Christ. He says
that the Declaration of Independence was first organized on the foundation of Jesus mission on Earth,
and that the Declaration laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of
Christianity. Adams stressed that the major impact of the Revolution was that Christian principles and
civil government were connected in an indissoluble bond. (Barton, America s p.17)
Why is the Supreme Court blind to such evidence as this? John Quincy Adams was an extremely well
educated man, so he is a very reliable source.
Other Founding Fathers were very outspoken about Christian beliefs.
John Jay, the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and one of the men most responsible for the

exists relative to product planning and focuses on the question of standardized products marketed
worldwide versus differentiated products adapted or even redesigned for each culturally unique

perhaps more culturally sensitive, propose the policy of a different product for each market. The issue

Industrialized countries have the highest quality image, and there is generally a bias against products
from developing countries. Within groups of countries grouped by economic development there are
variations of image. For example, one study of COE between Mexico and Taiwan found that a
microwave oven manufactured in Mexico was perceived as significantly more risky than an oven
made in Taiwan. However, for jeans there was no difference in perception between the two countries.
One might generalize that the more technical the product, the less positive is the perception of one
manufactured in a less developed or newly industrializing country. There is also the tendency to favor
foreign made products over domestic made in less developed countries. Not all foreign products fare
equally well since consumers in developing countries have stereotypes about the quality of foreign
made products even from industrialized countries. A survey of consumers in the Czech Republic found
that 72 percent of Japanese products were considered to be of the highest quality, German goods
followed with 51%, Swiss goods with 48%, Czech goods with 32% and, last, the United States with
29%. One final generalization about COE involves fads that often surround products from particular
countries or regions in the world. These fads are more often product specific and generally involve
goods that are themselves faddish in nature. European consumers are apparently

10. Propaganda During World War I
The Means of Propaganda From the First World War
By Evan MacArthur Waltz
3/4/18
Many people have called the Great War, or World War I, the first modern war because it involved
many technological and tactical advancements. One of the less obvious changes that supported and
sustained the war was propaganda, specifically in the form of lithographic posters. Propaganda posters
were a widely used tool to influence public opinion. What factors caused propaganda posters to be
uniquely significant during WWI in the United States? Unlike previous wars, U.S. participation in
WWI was at times widely unpopular (Hicks, 1949 ). The war was much less immediate in the United
States than it was in Europe, which made it easier for people to remain disengaged. ... Show more

Because of the unpopularity of the war, those posters were needed to sway opinion. The perceived
effectiveness of the posters in changing views led those in power to continue to create and distribute
them. Posters were never again used as the main form of propaganda in a war. In later conflicts, radio
and television became the primary way of distributing information to large numbers of people.

The 175 items are self report true false items. The MCMI III measures 14 personality disorders and 10
clinical syndromes (Strack, Millon, 2007). It utilizes an ordinal scale to measure how well the
examinee fit the constructs being measured. Each construct is split into two groups of items. One type
of item (prototype) represents features that are unique to a disorder, and the other type of item
(peripheral) represents features that may be similar to different construct item (Strack, Millon, 2007).
This accounts for why there is so much crossover between constructs. The prototypal items are
weighted two and the peripheral items are only weighted one. The item weighting system of the
MCMI III was changed to a two point system in comparison to the three point systems used in
previous versions (Craig Bivens, 1998). The 24 scales are broken down into four sections designed to
distinguish between the personality characteristics (Axis II) and the disorder displayed (Axis I)
(Millon et al., 1994). The moderate personality disorder scales consist of Schizoid, Avoidant,
Depressive, Dependent, Histrionic, Narcissistic, Antisocial, Aggressive, Compulsive, Passive
Aggressive, and Self defeating disorders (Millon et al., 1997). Schizotypal, Borderline, and Paranoid

Violence on Television Does Not Impact Behavior TV heroes endorse tanks of noxious, flesh eating

the size of a basic calculator have all taken their toll on American society. In a furious outburst
reflecting the contemporary society in which we live, television has come to represent all that is evil
and wicked for our children. Through gruesome, explicit, and often unrealistic portrayals of death and
violence, the impressionable clay of our children s minds are being molded into vicious statues

Even the colossal resurgence of the Ku Klux Klan in the 1920 s can be associated with media.
Children in an ambience of intensive violent media become desensitized to violent acts, clearing a
path towards an apathetic stance towards violence as an adult. Also, this milieu of gargantuan helpings
of fevered violence leads to profoundly aggressive behavior as an adult and the ghastly fear of the
world around them. And unfortunately, it s an indisputable fact that violence sells in the 90 s. turn on
the television during prime time and right away a throng of gruesome programs amasses you from
Extreme Wrestling to CNN news. When s the last time you heard something positive on the news as
opposed to civil war in Europe, the death of an inner city youth by a rival gang, or the brutal rape and
murder of a child by their parent? Perhaps the news contributes more than just an insightful
knowledge of events. Perhaps Columbine copycats and school bomb threats may never have arisen if

Human Intelligence in the Internet Era Nowadays, if a young adult hears a new terminology, instead
of going to a library and looking it up in an encyclopedia as what his or her parents would have done,
he or she will pull out his or her smartphone and google it. Thanks to Google and all other commercial
Internet companies, we are closer to all kinds of information, both useful and useless, than any other
time in human history. In Nicholas Carr s article Is Google Making Us Stupid? , he admits how the
immediate access to the rich store of online information benefits him largely as a writer (Carr, 589).

Overall, as Carr has suggested, we should be aware of the changes in our reading and thinking
behaviors that the Internet causes, try to keep thinking in the deep and perceptive way and cherish the
ambiguity of our human intelligence. In the article, Carr expresses his concerns about the Internet, but
he is not completely negative about it or against it; he writes ahead that the Internet has been a
godsend to him as a writer (Carr, 589). What he tries to do is to remind us that there are another
possible perspective and guideline when we judge and criticize the Internet. After describing all his
concerns about the Internet and human intelligence, Carr writes that maybe he is just a worrywart and
there s a countertendency to expect the worst of every new tool or machine and refers to the example
of Socrates and Squarciafico (Carr, 595). He shows his acknowledgment of the opportunities the Net
brings us and his understanding of the reasonability of possible disagreement with him. You should be
skeptical of my skepticism, he writes (Carr, 596). He expects us to be skeptical of his argument,
because he wants us to think more about both pros and cons of the Net. He does not try to deny the
Internet or convince us not to use it. Instead, he puts forward the other side of the case to let us have
forethought from a different perspective and to be more critical when judging the Internet. When we
agree on the bright side of the Internet, how it enables to

20. Living Space The Size Of Your Closet
How would you feel being confined to a living space the size of your closet? Animals in captivity are
often kept in situations vastly too small or unfit for their needs, for example elephants need about 100
acres of space, but the standard requirement is only about 1,800 sq. ft. (which isn t even a fourth of
one acre) (Cohn). Generally, you d start to question the effects this may have on mental and physical
health, as you probably couldn t fathom living in a broom closet. Captivity has a negative connotation,
bringing up thoughts of animals being held against their will, but by definition means animals that live
under human care . So most people could argue that their house pets aren t living in horrible, unfit
situations, although they re technically in captivity, just as elephants in a zoo. The benefits of captivity
(like in zoos or aquariums), as stated by Rick Block, is that it is a valuable source of public education
and can help promote conservationism and a better understanding of the effects we have on wildlife,
and can also help counteract animal endangerment through captive breeding, says Jeffery P. Cohn; on
the other hand it brings up questions on the conditions animals are kept in, like elephants in zoos,
which Cohn highlights, to the situations circus trained animals are put in, detailed by PETA, and CNN
and the Humane Society touch on the neurotic inducing effects captivity may have on killer whales.

25. Prohibition And The Prohibition Of America
The prohibition was a divided experiment that unintentionally brought organized crime, flourished the
presence of speakeasies in America and created a high rise of criminals in America. The backfiring of
the prohibition brought America an uprising in organized crime; criminals and the consumption,
manufacturing and selling of alcohol became more expensive and profitable to those involved. Silk
suits, guns, money and booze were the popular credentials amongst the finest in the bootlegging and
mob business. The prohibition had been recognized as an extraordinary business opportunity and was
exploited as such. In most major cities, gangs had been stocking up on alcohol in anticipation for the
beginning of the ban, leaving them with a guaranteed profit. Alcohol became a keen part of the more
urban culture of the 1920s despite the ban. People sought out alcohol at illegal bars, known as
speakeasies and through bootlegging. The authorities of the time had earned the reputation of turning a
blind eye to the illegal consumption and production of alcohol, for the right price. Gangsters ruled the
cities and in most cases, owned their streets. Bribing government officials was common, and people
were increasingly crafty in the way they would hide alcohol such as hollowed out canes, false books
and hip flasks. Violence on the streets increased, as did unemployment. Tim Nash, The Finer Times

A person has to really pay attention to the details to see the name. It is pretty hard to drive by and
notice that there is a church on that street. In the Catholic Church that I attend, the name is pretty
obvious. A person can tell that there is a church from quite a distance. In my opinion, the church did
not lend itself to worship.
Worship
The nature of the worship facility consisted of communion and prayers of forgiveness and faith.
As mass originate, the reverend, who was named Jimmy Orate, and his wife discussed many life
stories with the people. This stage of the worship service lasted a good fifteen to twenty minutes. The
reverend s wife spoke about an abortion that she went through before she found Christ. That abortion
led to her guilt for many years. She had no kind of peace, and credits that to her past non belief in
God. She felt ashamed to speak about the abortion with people, but with the faith in God and Christ,
she was finally able to confront her fear until finally speaking about the issue. She managed to ask for
forgiveness and was finally able to deal with herself. The message associated with this anecdote was
of repentance. In order to have peace and tranquility, a person has to repent from all of past and
current sins.
The reverend also contributed adding the story from Psalm 3 of the Bible in which David fled from his
own son Absalom . Psalm 3 reads like this:

Principles of Leadership from Nehemiah Nehemiah 3:1 23 Observation: After inspecting the broken

Nehemiah with a strategic plan. First, Nehemiah divided this massive public works project into
manageable pieces; assigning segments of the wall to different families, guilds, or communities.
Second, he assigned many segments to people with a personal stake in both the speed and quality of
the work. Although facing several external and internal obstacles to the work, the Israelites were able
to restore the city walls in only fifty two days. Principle: Servant leaders understand the importance of

29. Attitudes Towards Women In The Yellow Wallpaper And Three...
The expectations and attitudes towards women have changed over the course of history. In Charlotte
Perkins Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper and Joyce Carol Oates s Three Girls, the main characters have
to live their lives according to society s attitudes towards women. In both texts, there is the idea that
society expects women to not be independent, and enforces this by preventing them from getting
educations and increasing their knowledge. This impacts both stories by forcing the main women to
have two separate sides of themselves: one of which is accepted by society and the other of which is
not. The Yellow Wallpaper and Three Girls illustrate the societal idea that women shouldn t be
independent or be knowledgeable in their own right. The protagonist of The Yellow Wallpaper was a
woman who wanted to write, but was prevented from doing so by her husband. He didn t allow her to
do anything or go anywhere as a form of cure for a mental condition. Without the ability to write her
thoughts, the protagonist was restricted in her ability to think freely and to express her ideas. Putting
her in isolation also prevented her from exchanging knowledge with others and living a life reliant on
herself. She was physically and mentally trapped, unable to further herself in society and become her
own independent person. She was trapped by walls, but she was also trapped by society. Both
prevented her from gaining the knowledge required to rely on herself, keeping her trapped

Influence of Indian Warfare on the Development of the United States Army
Throughout history, when two or more armed groups oppose one another in battle, certain tactics are
transferred from one to the other. These tactics are usually perceived by either group as superior to
their own. This process of transferring tactics often occurs over a length of time, and usually
encompass a number of conflicts between the groups. This is a natural phenomenon for armed forces
that mimics the Darwinian Theory of Evolution; the strongest survive, the weak die. For a group to

The militia was strictly a local institution to a colony s townships or counties. They consisted of males
usually between the age of sixteen and sixty, who were obliged to keep weapons in their homes and be
prepared to be called in the event of Indian attack. Periodically throughout the year, the militias were
called to train at their local county or town seat (Bell 28). Although the local militia trained together,
they rarely fought together. Whenever a colony was threatened, the government of the colony directed
the militia commander of the locality that was threatened to assemble his men. This commander
would then muster the most able of his militia, usually the youngest, in the number he thought he
would need. This was also similar to the process used to form a militia for an expedition into Indian
country. Upon completion of the defense of the colony or the expedition, the men would immediately
disband and return to their homes (Bell 29).
In the early days of the militias, though the value of their training was minimal in respect to that of
their contemporary European professionals, the militiamen were competent Indian fighters. This was
due in part to the nature of frontier life. Males were required to develop skill in the use of firearms

The Spread of Islam and the Slave Trade
Segu is a garden where cunning grows. Segu is built on treachery. Speak of Segu outside Segu, but do

Maryse Conde. The kingdom of Segu in the eighteenth and nineteenth century represents the rise and
fall of many kingdoms in the pre colonial Africa. Therefore, Segu indirectly represents the enduring
struggles, triumphs, and defeats of people who are of African decent in numerous countries around the
world. There are three major historical concepts that are the focus of this book. One is the spread of
the Islamic religion. Another is the slave trade, and the last is the new trade in the nineteenth ... Show

The two men represent the struggle that many faced in Segu and ironically, are brothers. There are
basically three standpoints when it comes to the Islamic religion. One could embrace it, and
completely follow it like Tiekoro. One could simply follow it because they may feel pressured to, or
one could reject it, and stand up for what they believe in. Unfortunately, it is basically a two to one
scenario and the spread of Islam is inevitable.
An example of the people who just followed the religion because they felt pressured were the people
who sent their children to the schools that were set up to learn the religion. For the children who
already had a religion, their parents sent them there to convert them, which also made the parents look
good socially. If they did this, they usually got privileges and they fit in as well.
Another focal point in Segu was slavery and the slave trade. There was a strong demand for slaves
during this time period and the fact that human beings were being traded physically tore families and
communities apart. Sadly, the younger the slave, the better they were for labor and the higher they
were on demand by slave traders. A typical slave was between ten and thirty years old. The people
trading the slaves viewed them as property, with absolutely no regard for their feelings or their
families. The consistent trade of the slaves caused much fear and the people became alienated.

We are incredibly lucky to get to watch the world s best players take the ice at once, but when you get

(I m done bragging, I promise.)
McDavid, unsurprisingly, has been a huge factor on the score sheet as well. He has 19 points in 16
games played this season, and is a +5. When the Oilers took the ice in Pittsburgh, McDavid assisted
on all three of their goals. The Penguins ended up winning 4 3 in a contentious, evenly matched game.
The Leafs visit to Pittsburgh was far less leveled, in that the Penguins took a decisive 4 1 victory after
putting 49 shots on goal. Crosby picked up a goal and an assist in that time, while Zach Hyman, of all
people, was the only one to score for the Leafs. Does that mean Matthews is in a slump?

Yes, most of the people who resisted were African Americans, but these African Americans were
mostly either running away on the underground railroad or were freed slaves who joined the

there were whites that aided African Americans in resisting slavery but these men and women were
few in number. In addition, while people did run away from slavery on the underground railroad in the
south, slavery didn t only exist in the south like these movies portrayed. The north had slaves just like
the south, and while it may not have been as brutal, slavery and its cruelty lived in the north just as it
did in the south. Before most of the northern states outlawed slavery, most of the resistance either
happened in the area of Florida (or other Spanish and/or Native American owned areas) towards the
beginning of slavery and it wasn t until later in the timeline of slavery that Africans began running to
the north. Even once in the north, former slaves/ runaway slaves still constantly feared that they would
return to slavery, as a result of the Fugitive Slave Act, so resistance would also continue in the north,
eventually causing the resistant slaves to run all the way to Canada for freedom. The targets of
resistance was slavery. In the real world analysis of the slave era, many of the whites who were

35. Similarities And Differences In Ancient Greece
In this essay two Ancient Greek city states (polies) will be compared and contrasted showing how
despite their differences, they both rose to become predominating powers. Ancient Greece consisted of
many small city states, two of which were Athens and Sparta. Athens was considered the center of fine
arts, music, and educational opportunities. Sparta was known for its outstanding military strength and
tactical abilities at war. Life for a Spartiate was comprised of constant training and conditioning for
war, while an Athenian citizen would spend much of their day pursuing what they wished. Although
these two city states were substantially different, they both rose to become the two most predominant
powers in Ancient Greece.
There were several advantages and disadvantages to each of these two polies. Their societal structures
were relatively similar, and their governments were exact opposites. Athens was a very artistic and
philosophical city state while Spartan culture revolved more around the training of men for war and
stability of the government. Spartans valued organization and stability, while Athenians comparatively
valued freedom of choice. There were also huge gender biases between the two polies, and through all
of this, traditions and beliefs have been passed down to our generations today, helping to shape the
world we live in.

Epicurus and Epicureanism (PGHC11181)
Epicurus on the Gods: Realism or Idealism? Conflict between two interpretative parties.
It is commonly accepted that in antiquity people always believed in gods regardless of their stature.
Taking into consideration the different periods of history, there have been observed cases of
incredulity and skepticism as far as the existence of Gods was concerned. The disbelief over gods and
generally divergences on the traditional way of treating gods developed into atheism, though this
atheism never resolved itself into an extravagant tendency. It was claimed that Epicurus was an atheist
himself since he was accorded the syllogism that Gods were not omnipotent since they are not able to
prevent evil and they are malevolent in case they have the power though they do not want to prevent
it. Going further, he was even accredited with the doubt of the existence of gods. On the contrary,
Epicurus disputed infamous atheists of the classical period and strongly supported that gods existed.
However, Epicurus meaning on the existence of gods was ambiguous. After a long and laborious
research on the way Epicurus and Epicureans conceived the nature of gods, the scholars were divided
into two interpretative groups up to date; the first one was characterized by its realistic approach on
the Epicurean theology while the other examined this complicated theology from a more idealistic
aspect. According to realists, Epicurus gods were

If there is one thing true about this documentary is the depressing, and pessimistic nature of it. The
Shin Bet, Israel s equivalent of the FBI act as the secret intelligence branch that serves to protect Israel
from behind the scenes, and Unseen Shield, if you will. The six ex leaders of the Shin Bet all portray
the recent decades of Israel s undercover militaristic organisation by retelling some of their past
actions and experiences. All six tell of their actions, that would shock us uninitiated civilians, with
surprising bluntness. One man seems like the typical gentle grandpa wearing suspenders, who is
subsequently called a bully and a monster, another younger man is very collected yet obviously
troubled by the job. And then there is also Ami the bald gaunt man who likes to quote intellectuals. All
speak about the political history of Israel and how they re work has fundamentally changed them. One
of the most important change they face is their entire strategy involving the Palestinian issue. Their
tactics need to change from simply removing extremists to diplomatic solutions. At the very beginning
of the film the man Yuval Diskin introduces the most thought provoking theme of the documentary, it
s unnatural to have the power to give the word and end a man s life in an instant. In these moments
when a person has to decide between taking the shot and killing a known terrorist and potentially
innocent lives around him, or decline and let the man go on to do some

chapter of my life has awaken the nurturing, caring and protective side of me. I believe it is safe to say
these are characteristics nurses display towards their patients. As a mother, I know my children look to

becoming a nurse an easy decision to make. I want to have the knowledge of what to do, to be able to
act fast and correctly in case of any medical emergency. I want to be able to answer my loved ones

39. Reflective essay BIDP
Reflective essay As part of my Business Innovation Development Project Unit, I had the opportunity
to put myself into group with my friends or people I believed I could work well with. In the first
stages of our group we all tried to get to know each other more through analysing personality and
learning types test that we previously undertook. I realise we were going through the normal stages of
the team formation in particular forming and norming (Tuckman, 1965). In my assignment group we
had all Belbin team roles which helped us perform well throughout our project and also helped us to
identify other team members behavioural strengths and weaknesses. During the initial stages of the
group getting together I believed it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately there was a second thing I did not like, which was that one of our team members
decided to drop out of the course in the middle of our project which made us change some of our
workload responsibilities. However looking back, I believe that was the right choice for her at that
time which I cannot change. My assignment group was very fortunate as we didn t face any conflicts
within our group. However I am aware that there could have been many different types of conflicts
such as; different personality issue, different point of views or some people just don t get along which
leads to dysfunctional conflict (Huczynski Buchanan, 2007), this can of course affect the productivity
of a team or individual. I now realised that we all focused on everyone s feelings of how fairly they
were treated (Adams Equity theory) within the team. It is necessary, I believe, to make everyone
treated equally, respected and to feel part of the team because in my opinion that makes a strong
relationship between the team members and it avoids conflicts. Overall if I reflect back on our group
work I believe we worked very well as a team and my contribution to the group was significantly high
because I had an aim in my mind which I focused on until the end. As I worked the extra mile for our
project, it resulted that it gave us, as a team, a bit more time in preparation for our presentation and
finalizing the app which was crucial at that time for us. This experience has allowed me
