William Tecumseh Sherman was born in Lancaster, Ohio, on February 8, 1820. He was one of eleven

flexion of the cantilever. Hence, the objective is to establish a relationship between the length of a
cantilever, which may give some insight into the physics of cantilevers.
Hypothesis: If one increases the length of a cantilever, one would expect there to be an increase in
deflection/flexion of the cantilever. Similarly, if one increases the mass of the load, one would expect

products and services is deeply flawed. (Association of National Advisers , 2011). The justification to
expand the domain name, that new gTLDs would facilitate customer search, promotes consumer
welfare, even though the registration cost for a new domain is excessively high and would harm the
brand name is flawed. The expansion of domain name will open internet for criminal activity where
felons can cyber squat in the name of trusted brands. Objections raised by stakeholders had not been
addressed adequately and the decision is mostly influenced by the parties getting directly benefits

When I first learned that Convocation was going to be an award ceremony with the writer of our
summer reading book, A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah, giving a speech, I did not think I would
like the event. I had only read a little of the book written by speaker, and I thought he was only going
to address the topics and situations that occurred in the novel. While I did almost nod off during the
part of the Convocation were they gave out awards, I appreciated everything else. As a writer of

loneliness throughout the novel. Two men, George and Lennie are there for each other through
everything. They also have their tiffs just like any other friends. There are several clearly stated
themes running through the novel. But, the two themes that interact with each other are loneliness and

George lets everybody know early on in the novel that he is lonely. When George reminds Lennie that
Guys like us, that work on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world (Steinbeck Section 1). Men like
George who travel from farm to farm usually never have anyone to look to for companionship and
protection. As the story goes on, Candy, Crooks, and Curley s wife all state their deep loneliness.
Crooks says, A guy goes nuts if he ain t got nobody. Don t make no difference who the guy is, long s
he s with you. I tell ya, I tell ya a guy gets too lonely an he gets sick (80). In a world with no friends to
confide in, random people will have to do. Each of the characters search for a friend, someone to
confide in and be able to talk to on an everyday basis, as Crooks says. In the end, however,
companionship of Curley s kind seems impossible to find. For George, when Lennie dies, George s

In the Loop by Bob Hicok and Mid Term Break by Seamus Heaney are comparable in terms of their
symbolic titles, speaker s perspective, and tragic themes. These two poems diverge only in their
physical structure, as neither has rhyme nor meter.
Both Hicok s and Heaney s poems have seemingly misleading titles that hold significant symbolic
meaning upon closer inspection. Taking Hicok s In the Loop into consideration: the phrase in the loop
pertains to the idea of being kept up to date on various information while within a social circle. Hicok
completely reworks this phrase in his poem by altering the idea of what it means to be informed, as
well as adding a foreboding undertone to the familiar phrase. After the tragic shooting at Virginia Tech
on April 16, 2007, citizens of the United States were in the loop once news of the massacre flooded
various forms of the media; this informed people directly connected to the incident, including students
and faculty, as well as other civilians. Hicok also uses the expression in the loop to describe the
vicious cycle of grieving that occurs to those connected to a tragedy. He recounts the feelings of
emptiness that are experienced by those who grieve a recent misfortune: I answered these messages:
there s nothing to say back except of course there s nothing to say, thank you for your willingness to
say it. Because this was about nothing. A boy who felt that he was nothing, who erased and entered
that erasure (8 13)
In these six lines, Hicok describes how he responded to those that reached out to him after the
massacre at Virginia Tech; he appreciated the shared understanding that sometimes nothing can besaid
in the face of such catastrophe. He then articulates the void felt by those that had any connection to the
tragedy. Finally, Hicok conveys that the perpetrator of this heinous act, Seung Hui Cho, ended the
lives of 32 students and faculty members because he was a boy who felt that he was nothing (12).
The title of Heaney s Mid Term Break also misguides the reader in a similar fashion. The phrase mid
term break prompts the reader to imagine time spent with family, away from the pressure of academic
