Essay On Canadian Culture
There are many ways to defined Canadian culture through different terms that make Canadian
culture, Canadian. Canadian culture can be found through artistic, musical, literary, culinary and
political and social elements. Dennis Lee believed that If you re Canadian; you don t really have a
place to call home . (Dennis, 1974). However, the landscapes in Canadaare known to be embedded
in notions of Canadian cultureshowing us the Canadian identity. In this paper, I will state how Rod
Charlesworth s landscape painting demonstrated Canadian culture by reviewing the importance
terms such as the Atwood s survival, group of seven, the environmental determinism, authenticity,
Canada as a northern country, and Northrop Frye s idea I have chosen a Canadian painting called
Algonquin painted by an artist named Rod Charlesworth. A little background information about the
artist, Rod Charlesworth, is that he was born in Terrace, British Columbia in 1995. Rod
Charlesworth artworks are majority influenced by Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven. He
studied art at Okanagan College, where he was able to express the beauty of Canadian landscape.
He is able to create Canadian culture through his painting, and his painting shows a strong Canadian

Algonquin Park used to be where the aboriginal settlement came to gather their survival needs. As
it is stated in Algonquin Provincial Official website of the Friends of Algonquin Park that,
Scattered family groups of aboriginal peoples came to fish, hunt and pick berries, but their
numbers were never large. It was not until the 1800s that big changes came to the rugged
Algonquin highlands . (Algonquin Park, 1998). Algonquin Park is the first provincial park which
was established in 1893, therefore, it is the oldest provincial park in

Kobe Bryant Speech
The Black Mamba, Kobe Bean Bryant, became the youngest player to ever join the NBA, and
has struggled personally to become one of the most successful players of all time. Kobe
Bryant was born on August 23rd in 1978 and named after a famous steakhouse. At just the age of
6 Kobe s dad (Joe Bean Bryant) had retired from the NBA and decided to move his family to Italy
to play overseas basketball. Joe had a stellar college career averaging 20.3 points and 11.1
rebounds per game but couldn t compete at the NBA level with the same ease. In the eight years
Joe spent in the NBA he played for the San Diego Clippers, Houston Rockets, and the
Philadelphia 76ers. Growing up with two very athletic sisters, Shaya and Sharia, Kobe was very
good at both soccer and basketball. The family returned to Philadelphia in 1991 and Kobe was
enrolled into Lower Merion High School. In his four years at Lower Merion he lead his team to the
state championship and won it every year. In Kobe s senior year he averaged 30.8 points, 12
rebounds, 6.5 assists, 4.0 steals and 3.8 blocked shots. He was also the Prom King his senior
year and was accompanied by singer Brandy Norwood. Kobe made very good grades and scored
a very high SAT score. He planned to go to Duke University with a full ride scholarship but didn t
commit due to NBA teams asking him to come to practices. In february of 1996 Kobe Bean Bryant
announced to the world that he would be taking his talents to the NBA. Soon after being

Percival Bartlebooth Is An English Millionaire
Percival Bartlebooth is an English millionaire who realizes as a young man that his wealth has
doomed him to a life of boredom. He decides to study watercolor with Serge Valene for 10 years,
although he has no talent for painting. Accompanied by a servant, he sets out on a 20 year voyage
around the world with the intention of painting watercolors of 500 different harbors. The entire
book is constructed like a jigsaw puzzle. Perec uses an apartmentbuilding in Paris as the
background and writes 99 short chapters, in addition to a preamble that is repeated twice, and an
epilogue, to detail each room as well as the lives of all the buildings residents, past and present.
When he finishes a painting, he sends it to a man who also lives in the apartment building,
Gaspard Winckler. He is a puzzle maker who Bartlebooth hires to turn the paintings into 750
piece puzzles. When Bartlebooth returns from his travels he puts the puzzles back together in
chronological order. The painting is then sent to the place where it was originally painted. There
it is dipped into chemicals that eliminate every trace of the painting. However, Winckler made
the puzzles too difficult, and Bartlebooth does not live long enough to finish all 500. As Perec
writes in the last paragraph of the 99th chapter: The black hole of the sole piece not yet filled in
has the almost perfect shape of an X. But the ironical thing, which could have been foreseen long
ago, is that the piece the dead man holds between

Philadelphia 76er Essay
This season, all eyes will be on the Philadelphia 76ers to see if they can take that next step towards
a potential playoff berth. In offseason, the team signed both sharpshooter J.J. Redick and big man
Amir Johnson to one year deals in free agency to pair with the youth movement led by center Joel
Embiid.
However, while all the attention is on the guys apart of the 15 man roster, the Sixers and the rest
of the NBA have an additional two roster spots, which is for two way contracts. This should help a
lot of teams this season as they can develop players through their system while getting valuable
playing time in the G League.

If that wasn t amazing enough, Pullen upped the ante in his senior year, averaging 20.2 points, 3.7
assists, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.6 steals in 32.6 minutes per game.
Just like he did as a junior, Pullen continued to show off his hot shooting stroke, knocking down
42.6 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from three point range.
Despite ending his four year career at Kansas State on a high note, Pullen would go undrafted in
2011 and began his world tour playing basketball. He started off playing hoops with Pallacanestro
Bella in Italian Lega Basket Seria A and continued to do what he does best, scoring points.
With Pallacanestro Bella, Pullen averaged 16.0 points, shot 42.1 percent from the field and 34.1
percent from three point range in 34.3 minutes per game.
Three point shooting would become Pullen s best friend overseas as he would have a ridiculous
game a few seasons later with FC Barcelona Lassa. Against C.B. Valladolid, Pullen went off for 42
points on 12 of 15 shooting from distance, leading his team to victory.
The former Kansas State Wildcat put on the clinic, showing he could knock down the three ball off
screens and off the dribble.
However, do not let the three point shot fool you. Pullen can get to the basket at will and has a nice
hang dribble, which throws his defenders off.
Last season, he played with Khimki in the VTB United league and even though his

The Marfan Syndrome
Marfan syndrome is a genetic illness with significant morbidity and death (1). Prevalence
appears to be similar across the world, regardless of gender, and the estimate in the European
countries is 1 in 10,000 (2). The average expectancy used to be 32 years, but improved surgery
increase life expectancy to approach that of the entire population (3). The level to which
individuals are affected differs and those with the syndrome tend to be tall, thin and with long legs,
arms, fingers as well as toes (4). It is important to discuss the symptoms, pathogenesis, diagnosis,
and management of the syndrome. Apart from this, Marfan syndrome has several symptoms.
However, the most prominent indicators affect the skeletal, cardiac, and optical systems. The entire
fibrous connective can also be affected (4). Other signs include extreme nearsightedness, an
abnormally curved spine, flat feet, excessively limbs, and extraordinary and overcrowded teeth.
The central cause of the condition is a deficiency in the gene that enables the human body to
produce the fibrillin protein, which provides the connective tissue the strength and power to
support the body organ (4). Along with this, an individual inherits the abnormal from parents who

The Impact Of The Missouri Compromise
The Missouri Compromise, passed May 8, 1820, was an act which would obtain the balance
between free and slave states. Missouri would come into the union as a slave state, while
Massachusetts would establish Maine and admit Maine to the union as a free state. In order to
avoid confusion for the future of statehood, the 36 30 line split the country in two, anything above
this line was free, anything below this line was slave. Subsequent to this was Henry Clay s
Compromise of 1850. California wished to be added to the union as a free state, but was
essentially split in half by the 36 30 line, enabled by the Missouri Compromise. Despite that,
California was added as a free state, with New Mexico and Utah to be decided by popular
sovereignty, meaning... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If not for events such as the women s rights movement, slavery may never have been abolished.
During the 1800 s, women began to join in the protests for abolition and stopping the expansion
of slavery. Lincoln imposed many ideas on the expansion of slavery which were also placed on
the women s rights movement. Women were seen as subsequent to men, therefore leading them to
push for their rights. As time went on, after slavery eventually was abolished, women then started
their journey for voting rights. Glancing at the women s suffrage and slavery, though not treated
as poorly, women had almost the same rights as slaves. Women wished for rights and the act of
abolition just as much as any slave ever could. All in all, no political action or moral argument
would ever be able to justify the cruel nature of slavery despite many efforts made and long lasting
battles. The expansion of slavery needed to come to an end, and though this wouldn t satisfy
everyone, nothing ever

Community Policing Defined
Community policing
Community policing is defined as a philosophy that promotes organizational strategies, which
support the systematic use of partnerships and problem solving techniques, to proactively address
the immediate conditions that give rise to public safety issues such as crime, social disorder, and
fear of crime according to the U.S. Department of Justice. (U. S. Department of Justice). In other
words the main goal of community policing is the allocation of various police agencies/staff to
particular areas around the community so they become familiar with its inhabitants and lifestyle.
This style of policing attempts to modify the department through a system called de
bureaucratization and has four major goals to meet. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Assigning key officers to permanent locations, Chicago officers could gain greater knowledge
of the community problems and how to solve them responsibly. Community policing displays
the basic elements of policing and it has some helped shape recent policing strategies such as
Problem Oriented Policing and Zero Tolerance Policing. The most important obvious difference
from other policing strategies is that it represents a major change in the basic role of a police
officer. Traditionally police officers were used to only fight crime, with community policing it
broaden their role to order maintenance, conflict resolution and social and physical disorders
within the home. Problem oriented policing main focus is based on law, order and fear
problems. Unlike Community policing, POP opts that officers should address particular problems
and develop creative responses to each one. Instead of a crime fighter image officers under the
POP ideology function as problem solvers, planners, and community advocates. POP and
Community Policing are very similar in their police tactics however, the newly accepted Zero
tolerance Policy is very different. It is characterized by interventions that aggressively enforce
criminal/civil laws and that are conducted for the purpose of restoring order to communities. This
theory believes through harsh and aggressive enforcement of laws, crime will cause the community
to be more inclined to care which will

Analysis Of Thomas Hobbes s Leviathan
Laviathan, Thomas Hobbes most important work and one of the most substantial philosophical
texts of the Seventeenth century, was written largely as a response to the political violence and
turmoil of England s civil wars. In Leviathan, Hobbes, using science and reason as a foundation,
attempts to create a concrete and methodological solution for peace and political stability. In the
context of a historically violent and fear stricken period in which Leviathanwas written, it is logical
that Hobbes would claim man s principal motivation to maintain peace and avoid war is due to a
fear of death, therefore forcing man to seek the preservation of life. Hobbes central idea in
Leviathan centers on the necessity for absolute sovereigntyand a commonwealth through covenant
(social contract). For Hobbes, past democratic governments only encouraged factionalism and
internal conflict within the state. The lack of centralized power served only to distract these
governments from pressing issues and exterior threats, thus Hobbes believed the presence of a
strong central power such as an absolute sovereign would preserve peace. Hobbes presents the
essential idea of absolute sovereignty and commonwealth through the metaphor of the Leviathan.
The leviathan serves as a symbol for the state. It is described, as a creature whose body is made up
of all of the bodies of its citizens while the head of the Leviathan is the sovereign. The leviathan is

Women s Rights And Responsibilities
In order to exercise legal rights and responsibilities, one must be a legal person. However, the
legal person cannot be easily defined especially when one must consider the feminine gender.
Although it is a fact that women are people with the same legal rights and responsibilities as men,
several aspects of what is understood to be legal personhood conflicts with the unique
characteristics of the female gendersuch as pregnancy. This reflects the deeply seated tradition of
patriarchy within the law that is the largest concern of liberal feminists. It is not to be said that the
law has remained unchanged over the course of history but rather that it has changed in a way that
only includes women as men and not as women. This is mostly... Show more content on

In order to be considered a legal person, there are physical and conceptual requirements. The
physical requirement to be a legal person is to be born alive . In R v Poulton (1832) 5 C P 329 at

Conceptually, a legal person must be ...an enclosed, bounded and sovereign being... and a ...rational
person... who can ...exercise autonomy over his own person... In other words; they must be capable
of self government. It is difficult to define legal personhood narrowly due to its interpretation being
dependent on context and purpose but this is generally a universally accepted definition.
The issue of the role in women within leLiberal feminists believe that ...female subordination is
rooted in a set of customary and legal constraints that blocks women s entrance to and success in
the so called public world... and they work hard to emphasize the equality of men and women
through political and legal reform.
It cannot be denied that there has been significant progression of the recognition of women as legal
persons throughout the last century. Previous to the changes in the early 20th Century, women
were purposely excluded from the concept of a legal person due to assumptions of their feminine
disposition, which is often described as temperamental, and their publicly perceived lack of
capacity for

Thomas Jefferson s Affair With Sally Hemings
Many historians and American alike tend to encircle the Founding Fathers of this nation in a shield
of untouchable morality. With Thomas Jefferson, there is a particularly strong need for him to be
seen as a man of outstanding character. However, Jefferson s personally life has long been plagued
with stories of controversy, particularly his intimate life involving one of his slaves, Sarah, or Sally,
Hemings. By examining the relationships of Thomas Jefferson, with strong attention to the Hemings
family, it becomes clear that his intimate life is one of America s greatest historical scandals. In
order to fully understand the most publicized controversy surrounding Thomas Jefferson, his affair
with Sally Hemings, it is important to grasp his relationships with other women in his lifetime. In a
work dedicated specifically to the women of Jefferson s life, historian Jon Kukla outlines the
struggles that Jefferson experienced when faced with the building relationships with young women.
He offers information regarding Jefferson s intimate life that many biographical texts do not
include. His argument reaches beyond Sally Hemings and Martha Jefferson; it begins with
Jefferson s youth, and his uncomfortable experiences with girls during his teen years. The first
relationship that Thomas Jefferson ever hoped to engage in was with a young woman by the name
of Rebecca Burwell. Kukla traces Thomas Jefferson s problematic relationships with women to the
hopes that he had experienced

Conspiracy Theories Around 9-11
The worst terrorist attack in U.S history occurred on September 11, 2001. According to U.S
government officials, nineteen men hijacked four fuel loaded commercial planes with the intent to
destroy the World Trade Center in New York City, as well as both the Pentagon and the White
House in Washington D.C. The attacks began at 8:46am ET when American Airline s Flight 11
struck the North tower of the World Trade Center, causing chaos on the streets below. Not even
twenty minutes later, another commercial plane, United Airlines Flight 175, struck the south tower.

One MSNBC reporter, who was actually inside the north tower after the plane struck, stated I
heard a second explosion...And then a fire marshal came in and said we had to leave, because if
there was a third explosion this building might not last (Bombs and Explosions in the WTC 1).
This quote not only tells us that there was a possible explosion inside the World Trade Center,
but that there seem to have been more than one. If the collapse of the towers really was a
controlled demolition as it looked like to many, this would mean that a lot of premeditated work
to place explosives would have had to occur. Seeing as very few people have access to every place
of the World Trade Center, it does seem likely that some government cooperation would have been
needed to make it happen.
Many researchers claim that the explosions heard in and around the World Trade Center could
have been from exploding electrical transformers. They say that the heat from the fire was too
much for the transformers and caused explosions throughout the building. Author of George
Washington s Blog had this to say about the topic: Well, if exploding transformers caused these
sounds and the collapse of the Twin Towers, why didn t we hear the same things and see the
collapse of the buildings in Madrid, Venezuela, Los Angeles and elsewhere which burned hotter and

Sellar s Myth of the Given
Many empiricists claim that there is a sort of knowledge that is directed towards our
consciousness and this knowledge is assumed to be the given. The given which is held in all of
us has access that is highly privileged and presupposes no learning and no prior form of
associations. It provides the foundation and first layer for empirical knowledge. The knowledge
that is gained through experience and pure reason. Empirical knowledge comes from observation. I
will argue in favor of Sellars rejection of the Given; that the Myth of the Given is truly untenable.
Wilfrid Sellars labeled the existence of such knowledge as the Myth of the Given. When calling
something a myth then that would mean that it does not exist at all. Sellars rejected all the
arguments that were in favor that were put forward in supporting the existence of the given and
claims that empirical knowledge, which has been dictated as rational and has no need for the
given. His position in disregarding the given has been constituted as the main focus of the
philosopher s career. Let s delve straight into why Sellars decided to dismiss the given.
Sellars rejected the idea that knowledge is given. The Myth of the Given plays on the notion that
knowledge is either basic or given . Here is an example: If you do not possess the concept of
something being blue then you cannot speak of. The true judgement that contains the term blue has
the ability to recognize something that looks blue, presupposes the

Indifference to War in Remarque s All Quiet on the Western Front
In Remarque s All Quiet on the Western Front, characters such as Paul and his friends become
indifferent to shocking elements of war through constant exposure to them. For example, the
characters are unconcerned about the dangers of the front because they are accustomed to being on
the front. In another instance, Paul s friends show no emotions when they witness snipers killing

that through war, characters of the book have become indifferent to things that they would normally

However, Paul does not show any emotion in his description of his experience. Instead, he plainly

Another example of indifference in the story is when Paul and his friends watch snipers killing
enemy soldiers. Kat and Albert watch in awe as a sniper scores his third kill for the day. Instead of
thinking badly about killing, Kat says to Paul that it s very good for you to see just now (229).
Kat is not affected that the snipers are killing people who are just like Kat and the snipers. Kat and
Albert have become very indifferent to killings on the battlefield. They are not very emotional
about the killing of enemies; instead, Kat and Albert compliment the shooter on his

One more example of indifference in the story is Kat s indifference toward men killed by trench

Desiderius Erasmus, believed to be the illegitimate son of a Priest named Gerard, was born
around 1466 in the Netherlands. He is also believed to have been born with a different name,
and his birthday is unknown because he was born out of wedlock. Despite this, his father made
sure he had a good education by sending him to a prestigious Latin school when he was 9 years
old. However, when Erasmus s parents died, he was sent to live with guardians who strongly
believed that he should become a Monk. During this time, Erasmus gained a personal
relationship with God but was opposed to the strict rules and teachings of the school. Poverty
eventually forced Erasmus into a monastery in 1492, where he was ordained a Catholic priest.
He then became the secretary for Henry de Bergen, the bishop of Chambray, which allowed him
to travel across Europe for the next ten years to study Latin and literature. These studies led to
his discovery of Renaissance humanism. In the early 1500s, not long after his travels, Erasmus
was invited to lecture in theology at the University of Cambridge and it was during this time that
Erasmus began to publish literature showing his some of his new ideas and criticisms of society
and the church. These ideas started to become well known after he published one of his early
works, Praise of Folly. His ideas stood out from others of the time and sparked debate all over
Europe. These ideas are strikingly similar to those made famous by Martin Luther, however, as

Great Butte Mining Research Paper
On June 8, 1917, one of the most devastating disasters in Montana took place. Over 160 miners
died, this disaster being the Great Butte Mining Disaster of 1917. It was truly a devastation...
When a fire safety, electrical line was being installed, which would ve been convenient five
minutes later, the weight of the line was unbearable, causing the line to drop down the shaft.
Before plastic, wire was insulated with oil soaked cloth. Ernest Sullau climbed through debris
with a carbide lamp that touched the oil soaked cloth, starting the fire. Ventilation fans stirred the
fire up tremendously. Many people know when wood and fire mix, bad things happen. Imagine
the mine or an emergency department calling your wife and saying, Your husband has died from
a casualty yesterday from asphyxiation in the speculator mine in Butte, Montana , this was the
kind of call wives around Butte were receiving after this disaster. I put my lamp too close, John.
Ernest Sullau (Quotes) The person who started the fire, Ernest Sullau, said a he stood watching
the fire burn and eat away at hard earned work. Over 160 miners died doing what (some of them)
loved. Most death themed casualties happened from asphyxiation from smoke. The flags were at
half mass that day, all of the wars happening were forgotten because of this great devastation. The
Speculator Mine made most of the income, but when this great desolation happened, no other mine
was as important as this one. In all of the miners families hearts, this mine was made a family

The Economic Power Of The Super Bowl
To connect to the economic power that generates through the Super Bowl one must understand
the historical pattern of revenue, ticket cost, and attendance the game exhibits in the week
leading up to the actual showdown. The ticket prices of the Super Bowl are the main catalyst
into understanding what every consumer is willing to spend and how much revenue the game
brings to that city. In 1967, the first Super Bowl tickets were no higher than 12 dollars and the
average price of a home was less than 25,000 dollars (Smith, 2012). In 2016, the average ticket
price was 1,325 dollars making a big ascendance from 1967 (Depietro, 2017). Therefore, this also
shows how the game has become more popular since it has come into existence and ticket prices

Nanny Services Essay
Nanny services is a merit good, a socially desirable but often under provided good. In a free
perfect competition market structure of nanny services, market failure, the inability to recognise
allocative efficiency, arise as a positive externality of consumption. A positive externality of
consumption is when the consumption of a good provides social benefits that exceed the private
benefits enjoyed by a consumer. In [Figure 1] assuming ceteris paribus, private benefit is an
incentive for both demand and supply market forces within a free unregulated market, and
equilibrium will result as the quantity being Q market at the price of P market. The marginal social
benefit curve represents the spill over benefits exceeding the private benefits... Show more content

There are various factors that determine the effectiveness of the imposition of a specific
subsidy. Ideally, the size of the specific subsidy is to be equivalent to the spill over benefits.
However, the extent of spill over benefits cannot be accurately measured. Therefore the
coincidence of marginal private cost curve and the marginal social cost curve is improbable. The
advantage of a specific subsidy is a greater quantity of nanny services can be produced, achieving
social optimum, at a relatively lower price. There are low socioeconomic status consumers with
low levels of income and poverty. Conscious or oblivious of the spill over benefits in the
consumption of nanny services, they are financially incapable to afford nanny services and are
excluded in the marginal private benefit curve. Therefore a specific subsidy, is inclusive of the
quantity demanded from low socioeconomic status consumers, encouraging and enabling them to
consume merit goods. The primary disadvantage of a specific subsidy is its opportunity cost.
Subsidising the nanny service market may deprive the opportunity of another market being
subsidised. Hypothetically, if the nanny service market was subsidised, the nanny service market is
developing efficiently at the expense of another market developing less or inefficiently. Another
disadvantage is despite the imposition of a subsidy, the issue of consumer ignorance arise, where a
portion of consumers are oblivious to the spill over benefits in the consumption of nanny

Physiological And Psychological Benefits Of Sports Massage...
Physiological and psychological benefits of sports massage treatment
Within this section I will be combining the benefits of both physiological and psychological
influences as they both link together within some benefits of sports massage.
Sympathetic and Parasympathetic nervous system benefits (Physiological)
Sports massage also allows us to have beneficial effects on the sympathetic and parasympathetic
nervous system. Massage allows us to increase these responses by stimulating them more allowing
us to increase the athlete s performance rate and also the increase of sufficient the body works.
Within the sympathetic system we are able to increase the stimulation rate before the activity. This
can benefit athletes by making them prepare quicker to the activity ahead of them, allowing them
to increase their performance rate. Within the parasympathetic system we are able to also increase
the sufficiency of this, allowing athletes to recover quicker and reach an anabolic state quicker. For
example, doing a massage on a marathon runner will allow us to increase their sympathetic nervous
system reaction before the race by preparing them before they run, e.g. increased heart rate,
allowing the athlete to increase their performance rate. After the race, the parasympathetic nervous
system will allow the runner to recover and reduce their working rate more sufficiently and faster.
Also stimulating the nerves more, allows us to increase the speed of the action potential being

Bending of Beam Lab Report Essay
1. Objective:
The objective of this experiment is to demonstrate the bending of a bean when loaded at the center
of its length and examine its deflection when positioned in two different ways, when the flat side of
the beam is support and when the thin side is supported. In addition, try to find linear relationship
between the load applied and the deflection of the beam and comparing the experimental deflection
with the theoretical deflection.
If the load is applied at the mid length a=b=L/2 then mid span deflection is: Оґ = PL3/(48EI).
Where P is the applied force, L is the length of beam, E is the modulus of elasticity of aluminum,

Opioid Persuasive Essay
It s impossible to fix a leaking faucet without fixing the pipes first. You can try to mop up the
water, but the problem won t go away until the leak is stopped at the source. Likewise, the current
opioid epidemic that is taking over lives will not come to an end unless the source unneeded
opioid prescriptions for teens is stopped. A plethora of teens receive prescriptions for trivial
injuries, but doctors over prescribing these medications can put teens on the road to a full blown
addiction. The current opioid epidemic is a problem that plagues the lives of thousands of people
every day, and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is taking steps to end the problem.

Opioid pills flood the body with chemicals to give the user pleasure and pain relief (Triffin). To
many, these drugs seem safer than other drugs. However, this is far from the truth. Right now,
the opioid epidemic is the fastest growing drug problem (Volk). Teens young age makes them
especially vulnerable to addiction. John F. Kelly, Ph.D, associate professor of psychiatry in
addiction medicine at Harvard Medical School explains, The brain is in a critical and vulnerable
period of growth during adolescence. Kelly added that early exposure to drug misuse increases
your risk of addiction by 5 to 10 times, independent of other factors (Triffin). Simultaneously,
studies show that when rewarded, teens brains have a strong reaction. This, combined with the
impulsive nature of the teen brain means that teens are attracted to thrills. These weaknesses are
manipulated by drugs, as observed in animal research. Young rats tend to work harder than adult
rats to get drugs, which implies that the teen brain is more attracted to drugs. The thrill of taking a
drug is pleasing to teens (Teen Brain Vulnerability Exposed). In fact, When someone takes a

Battle Of Midway During World War II
Battle of Midway
The Battle of Midway was a very important battle in the Second World War because it basically
shaped out the war for the Allied Powers, as well as for the Axis Powers. This battle also happens
to be one of the most important naval battle of the time. The Battle of Midway was a very
important battle in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. The battle was between The United States
of America and the Empire of Japan. This would be the second battle that would feature of the
United States in World War II, as it took place 6 months after the Japanese attacked the U.S.
naval base Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Major advancements in technology would be seen for the
first time in this battle, which would prove to be crucial. Today, the battle is recognized as a big
contribution for the Allied Power s victory in World War II. On December 7, 1941, Japanese
fighter pilots attacked the U.S. naval base of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Just over 2,000 men lost
their lives during the attack. Just a few days later, the United States declared war on Japan. Five
months after the attacks in May 1942, The Battle of the Coral Sea took place, which featured a
victory for the Japanese. This battle happened to bo the first action in which aircraft carriers
engaged each other. Though the battle ended in a victory for the Japanese, it turned out to be a
strategic victory for the Allies. Several Japanese carriers were damaged during Coral Sea, and were

The Role of Language in Creating and Reinforcing Social Distinctions Such as Class, Ethnicity, and

It is said in a myth that people were once trying to build a giant latter to heaven so God made
them all diverse by making portions of the people look different and speak different language. The
now diverse people of earth felt annoyed and human nature took its ugly toll and separation and
distinctions were made, they all scatter throughout the world. God did this so that the people would
not be able to communicate therefore not be able to build the great ladder that was threatening

It is said that America is the most diverse country in the world; ironically it is also the most
prominent. It is ironic because it is expected that with diverse people in one place they will want
to seclude themselves but in the US; it shows that when there is a similar connection, such as
language, between the people then they can unite and be great. The reason I mentioned that
language doesn t stop dividing people is because even within a certain type of people there is
still seclusion that is caused by language. The invisible oblige of language is so visible that there
are many jokes between Americans about language that distinct types of American groups.

Cord Stimulation Research Paper
Every says new news stories appear about America s deadly addiction to Opioids. The drugs
which may be more commonly recognized by their drug names (eg Morphine, Codeine, Fentanyl)
have been overprescribed by Doctors for years. Usually given out to patients with chronic pain,
who cannot find relief elsewhere, they were recently withdrawn causing a massive increase in the
number of drugoverdoses in the United States. The issue is so large it s even drawn considerable
attention from Donald Trump. Reducing the number of prescriptions for opioids has meant patients
seeking out street dealers to fuel their addictions. Many have lost their lives. Clearly, new therapies
are urgently needed to reduce the burden of chronic pain which doctors in the UK estimate that
between в…“ and в…” of the population lives with. The numbers are similar across the pond.
However new therapies are emerging, including revolutionary new technologies like spinal cord
stimulation. Could this help curb America s Opioid Epidemic?
What is Cord Stimulation?
So what is cord stimulation (or spinal cord stimulation to use its full name)? Well, pain is a signal
transmitted through nerves from your body up through the spinal cord to your brain. But the spinal
cord isn t simply a relay station for the pain signals. Since the 60 s scientists have known that the
spinal cord can modulate these pain signals as they are traveling up to the brain. That means they
can either amplify the signal or dampen it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How does this link into the opioid crisis? Well, in the face of a rising death toll and a significant

than those not on opioids. They state that spinal cord stimulation has the ability to reduce opioid

such as wimp, retard and psycho. There is a limited semantic range of taboo words, therefore,
the need to classify taboo words into sexual, religious or scatological taboos. The taboo language
would range from somewhat offensive words to exceedingly ugly taboo words. Use of taboo
language could produce either positive or negative consequences depending on the context
(Ladkin, 17). For instance, a speaker could use taboo language to arouse humor amongst his or
her audience to help ease a rather tense situation or conversation. How offensive or appropriate a
word or words are largely based on the setting or circumstance that they are used. For example,
the way a teenager will name a sexual organ in the presence of fellow teenagers is different from
the way the teenager will refer to the sex organ to their parents or teachers. Therefore, the
offensiveness of taboo words is defined by the pragmatic variables like the relationship between
speaker and listener, the age difference, the tone used and the social and physical background. A

adults do. On the other hand, what children see as

Fulcher.
Mark and Jodey have incorporated three livestock species Black Hereford cattle, Kiko goats and

Mark and Jodey moved to the Ozarks in October after establishing the operation in 2013 in

The Deregulation Act Of The United States
Paul Stephen Dempsey, the Hughes Research Professor of Law and Director of the
Transportation Law Program at the University Of Denver College Of Law, takes the speculation
on the cost to the ultimate level. Through his collection of data, he shows that although revenue
per passenger mile fell at 2.4% (1978 88) compared to 1.7% (1967 77), if the fuel prices are kept
constant, the fuel adjusted real yield shows that the prices were falling more rapidly at 2.7%
(1967 77) compared to 2.0% (1978 88). These figures proved that consumers were paying more in
1988 then what they would have paid with regulation in effect.
Surprisingly enough, the corroboration that the real cost has not declined after the act does not
relate to airlines profit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Kathy suggests, safety can be mainly evaluated through the airport funding and fleet age. A
quote from her article reveals the concerns at airport funding: The general Accounting Office
says the country spends $3 billion less per year on airport infrastructure than is needed to keep
up with the increased demand for air travel. This under level funding may mainspring airports to
function clumsily, and may be the root for the air traffic controllers experiencing significant
system failures (Koch). Such failures have led to near misses. The supplementary salient aspect
of safety the fleet age has also seen a degradation. One of the graphs shows that the Average Age
of Fleet in the US is much higher than the planes flown by other industrialized nations (Koch).
The decrepit planes have elevated prospects of getting technical problems that could cost
numerous lives. Dempsey presents a table accounting the fleet age of different American airlines
in his article to substantiate how sharply it has escalated after the act. Following closely is given a
table of Number of Mechanics per Aircraft that reflects a drastic shrink in numbers for most
airlines (except Northwest, Pan Am, and United) (Flying Blind). The reduced number of
technicians per aircraft results in lesser care for the aircraft that might lead to accidents. This
makes it clear that airlines are putting passenger safety at risk to increase their profits.

Werner And Marie Laure s Relationship
Werner and Marie Laure had a interesting relationship because although, they had not known
each other for very long. I feel as though Werner had felt something with Marie that he has never
felt before. I think that Werner has always felt out of place, but for a moment he feels at peace.
On page 470, he thinks, I only want to sit here with her for a thousand hours. This quote also goes
along with the fact that Werner always seemed to want to get out of situations or leave situations
and I think that this is the only real instance where Werner did not wish to leave. Werner s love for
Marie made him go against his duties by not turning her in for the radio. Marie made him do the

chapter, pages 144 147 is dedicated to her awareness of the dangers that surround the war and the
Nazis. She describes the Nazis and gets a better insight on who they are. Her father says their
weapons gleam as if they have never been fired. (144), is one of the first things that she hears
about the Nazis. So although she is blind, she seems to see more than those who can actually see.
An advantage is that it allows her to actually get to know people without judging them by their
appearances. For example, when she first met Werner, she didn t see his Nazi uniform(which would
have frightened her, or made her prejudge him), but she actually got to know him as a person.
In the beginning Jutta is very close with her brother. They are like partners in crime. She feels
like her protects her. She also thinks of him to be different than the standard boy his age. On page
133, Jutta makes the statement, Is it right to do something only because everyone else is doing it?
, this statement shows how Jutta s perspective on her brother begins to change. She begins to look
at him like the the other boys. In the end she realizes how much she misses her brother. She
expresses how she felt due to the absence of her brother. ..after Werner left

The Minimum Drinking Age Act
Some people find it hard to understand that at the age of eighteen you can fight and die for your
country, but you cannot legally drink or purchase alcoholic beverages. Others find it hard to
believe that there are people who want people under the age of twenty one drinking. The important
question is: should the drinking age be lowered to eighteen instead of remaining at twenty one? The
legal drinking ageis the age at which a person can consume or purchase alcohol. These laws cover
a wide range of issues and behaviors, addressing when and where alcohol can be consumed. The
National Minimum Drinking Age Actwas passed by Congress 30 years ago. This law told states
that they had to enforce the drinking age of 21 or lose up to ten percent of their federal highway
funding. The idea that a person was fully an adult at age 21 relates to an English common law.
21 was the age where a person could vote and become a knight. If a person was 21, they could
drink then, too. Franklin Roosevelt approved lowering the minimum age for the military draft
from 21 to 18 during World War II. Organizations like Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)
began pushing for the national drinking age to be set at 21. They thought it would keep alcohol
out of the hands of 18 year olds who they felt were less mature. As a result, President Reagan
signed the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 to set the age at 21. Legislation
concerning the legal minimum drinking age in the United States can be

1848 Revolutions
The disappointment of the 1848 Revolutions were not brought about by the disorder found in the
general population that drove the insurgencies. With a bottomless measure of substantial unrests all
through Europe, a lot of them fizzled without a solitary commitment exhibit that made it a
disappointment. These unrests were assessed standards, for example, communism, radicalism, and
patriotism. In any case, these unrests faded away rapidly and didn t produce much results. The
three noteworthy reasons of the disappointment would connection to the rebellions of individuals

Their definitive objective was to discover and accomplish a sorted out and brought together Italy.
They however were really fruitful in driving constitutions into Scicilies, Sardinia, the Duchies,

Italy to be a risk and peril to its national security. They then wanted to go into the Italies and destroy

St. Augustine s Life
St. Augustine was born in Taagaste, Roman North Africa on November 13, 354 AD and was
given the name Aurelius by his parents Patricius and Monica Augustine. At the time of his birth,
his father was still a pagan, but his mother eventually converted him to Christianity (Chadwick
6). Aurelius was raised receiving a Christian education and from a very young age, he had a
great respect for the religion. He learned to make the Sign of the Cross and certain ideas about
the faith he kept very dear to his heart including: a Divine Providence, Christ the Lord Savior,
and the belief that hell existed for those who did not live up to the Christian Faith s standards
(Chadwick 11). Augustine did very well in school and his father decided to send him to
Carthage to pursue a study in forensic studies (Farrell 5). The young man found a city living by
pagan rules, where every desire of evil was encouraged. Augustine had a very competitive spirit,
and in such a city the only goal was who could be the very worst. During this time he had a
girlfriend whom he had a son with, and he lived with her for thirteen years. His son only lived
for seventeen years, and then died (Chadwick 20). This period of his life was eventually looked
on by himself with a great deal of regret and guilt which lead to some of his writings including his
famous books Confessions. At this point he decided to turn his life around and saw rhetoric, reason,
and philosophy as his new found passions. Augustine found solace

Gregory And Papacy Essay
When one thinks about the Pope today, there is an image of an elderly man in robes who kisses
babies, makes broad statements about the policies or beliefs of the church, and travels around the
world meeting with the leaders of the world and the church. If one confers with Merriam Webster,
the word popeis defined as the head of the Roman Catholic Church, a definition that falls in line
with the thoughts of many, perhaps even most, people today. For those who are familiar with the
history of western civilization, the papacy is a newer development. The papacy and the Christian
church are tightly aligned with the Roman Empire, but the Empire underwent a variety of changes
and no longer exists, and yet, the Roman Catholic Church and its head are still intact. If the papacy

It was Pope Gregory I, who never sought the papacy, that brought reform and scholarship to the
position. , Gregory held the papacy from 590 until 604. Born into an aristocratic family, Gregory
was well educated. He gave up the life of relative prominence and pursued monasticism. During
his time as monk, Pope Pelagius II appointed him ambassador to the court at Constantinople.
Pelagius later required the help of Gregory and his monks, during a time of rampant flooding and
disease, for various projects throughout Rome, including sanitation, burial and feeding of the
poor. , When Pelagius died, the clergy and people unanimously elected Gregory to the empty see.
While unwanted, Gregory continued the city reformation projects that he began under Pelagius
with an admirable zeal. Pope Gregory the Great, only the second to receive the honorific the

Examples Of Love At First Sight Essay
Is Love at First Sight Possible?
Love at first sight is the experience of starting to be in love with someone as soon as you see them
for the first time. To a large extent, love at first sight is possible to start a relationship but not
possible to maintain a relationship in a long run.
Love at first sight involve passion, which is recognized as one of the components of love. Eros,
one of the six love style suggested by John Alan Lee (1976) in the color wheel theory of love, is
defined as passionate love. Strong physical and/or emotional attraction is the basis of such kind of
love style. Later research on this theory of love by Clyde and Susan Hendrick (1986) also
suggested six love attitude scales using factor analysis, supporting the existence ... Show more

Study shown that couples who want to make their relationship permanent (e.g. through marriage)
tend to have higher level of commitment than passion, while couples who never thought to make
their relationship permanent tend to have higher level of passion (Gonzaga, Turner, Keltner,
Campos, 2006). This shows that commitment is a much important factor when transforming people
s bonding to a long term relationship, but not passion. Even if dating couples are married base on
the infatuation, such passionate love may not last long. As love at first sight is a kind of love that
only involves intense passion, people may idealize their partner when getting along with each other
(Ben Ze ev, 2000), which means people are often in love with the idealized image but not the real
one. However, such situation may not hold long. Study found that the amount of passion between
couples who had intensely passionate courtships decline very quickly over the first twenty four
months after reaching the peak level due to marriage (Niehuis, Reifman, Feng, Huston, 2014). Once
the passion fade and the couple still did not develop sufficient level of intimacy and commitment,
which is an important factor for long term relationship (Sternberg, 2007), to maintain their bonding,
the couple may divorce. These research studies reflect that although love at first sight has

Cinderella 1950
The ability to dream is magical in itself. A girl often plays the game of, Happily ever after, where
she goes to a ball and falls madly in love with the prince. Disney first captured this idea in the film
Cinderella in 1950. One fact that seemed to bother some viewers was that the destined couple met
and fell in love at first sight. It is perfectly plausible, but somewhat unrealistic. A new adaptation of
the basic story of Cinderellahas taken this concern and altered how they met to meeting in the
woods days before the ball. It was love of personality that had the two entranced. Cinderella
(2015) presents a young girl by the name of Ella that faces kindness from oppression, courage,

Cinderella (2015) kept an even balance of fantasy with reality. She had the happily ever after

dazzle of the transformations. Disney intended for the magic to help Cinderella get to the ball to
meet and eventually marry the prince. This version has realistic aspects but does not limit the
imagination and specialness of the dramatic dress transformation. Ever After had the main
character, Danielle, a strong headed woman that had a voice and shared her opinion to her

there seemed to be a lack of magic to it overall. It held the true aspects of a developing relationship,

Aisha Lemu Polygamy
In Defense of Polygamy Aisha Lemu discusses her beliefs on Polygamy. Polygamy is a form of
marriage where a man or women is allowed to have more than one spouse. Most of the time it
occurs in the form of Polygyny; were a man has more than one wife. Mrs. Lemu states that it is
possible that Polygamy has its benefits, and it could have tremendous effects on any community.
According to Aisha Lemu, marriageis an investment instead of an agreement; however, Mrs. Lemu
is inaccurate. Lemu thinks that Polygamyis the legitimate way to handle a marriage, but in reality
Lemu needs to comprehend that Polygamy is ultimately wrong. As a matter of fact Polygamy is
an ancient practice known in a variety of societies. Although this belief is horrific, and biblically
wrong, people still consider taking part of these actions as Mrs. Lemu discusses. This Practice is
found in nearly every country and even in the United States; however, it is primarily found in the
Islamic society. Marriage is supposed to be the mutually forming of a bond between couples. In this
bond couples are to cherish each other through sickness, and health, richer or poorer. In the bible...

you know where is Trump is going to get billions from ? Tax payers. Congress has no idea where
to get the money to fund the building of the border wall between the U.S and Mexico. The fence
will not stop immigrants from coming into the country at all, there are ways that people from
Mexicocan enter the U.S legally. The border wall is too expensive and impractical for us to
continue building to complete it, it s going to take 4 years for the border wall to completely

we as a country have. We shouldn t continuing the building of the U.S Mexico border because it

UNLV Reflection Essay
As UNLV Graduates its 2016 Spring class, its commencements speakers offer words of community

The city of Las Vegas is full of excitement and wonder kind of like exiting the doors of your final

Finding community through understanding:
Growing up in Las Vegas, Daniel s life was impacted by the tragic events of 9/11. I remember in

Does Polonius Love Ophelia
In the story Hamlet there are two characters who loves Ophelia but in their own way. There s an
event in the beginning of the story where Hamlet shows his love and affections to his love Ophelia.
However, the two characters Laertes (brother) and Polonius (father) react to the situation differently.
Poloniusorders her to stay away and do as he says while Laertes advises Ophelia about men and
Hamlet. From the choices the these character chose reveal how much they truly value dearest
Ophelia. Therefore, I believe polonius loves Ophelia more than Laertes. In Act 1, Polonius is

about Hamlet. Then he gives her an insight of what young men want and they will say to get it

Ophelia more because he stays with her a for a few minutes even though he is running late on

The decision to hold the conference depends on certain other decisions. The management has

wants to help them recover the destruction. The management may want to hold the conference in
the same city at some future date in order to provide an opportunity to overcome the destruction by

  • 5. Percival Bartlebooth Is An English Millionaire Percival Bartlebooth is an English millionaire who realizes as a young man that his wealth has doomed him to a life of boredom. He decides to study watercolor with Serge Valene for 10 years, although he has no talent for painting. Accompanied by a servant, he sets out on a 20 year voyage around the world with the intention of painting watercolors of 500 different harbors. The entire book is constructed like a jigsaw puzzle. Perec uses an apartmentbuilding in Paris as the background and writes 99 short chapters, in addition to a preamble that is repeated twice, and an epilogue, to detail each room as well as the lives of all the buildings residents, past and present. When he finishes a painting, he sends it to a man who also lives in the apartment building, Gaspard Winckler. He is a puzzle maker who Bartlebooth hires to turn the paintings into 750 piece puzzles. When Bartlebooth returns from his travels he puts the puzzles back together in chronological order. The painting is then sent to the place where it was originally painted. There it is dipped into chemicals that eliminate every trace of the painting. However, Winckler made the puzzles too difficult, and Bartlebooth does not live long enough to finish all 500. As Perec writes in the last paragraph of the 99th chapter: The black hole of the sole piece not yet filled in has the almost perfect shape of an X. But the ironical thing, which could have been foreseen long ago, is that the piece the dead man holds between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In offseason, the team signed both sharpshooter J.J. Redick and big man Amir Johnson to one year deals in free agency to pair with the youth movement led by center Joel Embiid. However, while all the attention is on the guys apart of the 15 man roster, the Sixers and the rest of the NBA have an additional two roster spots, which is for two way contracts. This should help a lot of teams this season as they can develop players through their system while getting valuable playing time in the G League. If that wasn t amazing enough, Pullen upped the ante in his senior year, averaging 20.2 points, 3.7 assists, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.6 steals in 32.6 minutes per game. Just like he did as a junior, Pullen continued to show off his hot shooting stroke, knocking down 42.6 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from three point range. Despite ending his four year career at Kansas State on a high note, Pullen would go undrafted in 2011 and began his world tour playing basketball. He started off playing hoops with Pallacanestro Bella in Italian Lega Basket Seria A and continued to do what he does best, scoring points. With Pallacanestro Bella, Pullen averaged 16.0 points, shot 42.1 percent from the field and 34.1 percent from three point range in 34.3 minutes per game. Three point shooting would become Pullen s best friend overseas as he would have a ridiculous game a few seasons later with FC Barcelona Lassa. Against C.B. Valladolid, Pullen went off for 42 points on 12 of 15 shooting from distance, leading his team to victory. The former Kansas State Wildcat put on the clinic, showing he could knock down the three ball off screens and off the dribble. However, do not let the three point shot fool you. Pullen can get to the basket at will and has a nice hang dribble, which throws his defenders off. Last season, he played with Khimki in the VTB United league and even though his ... In order to avoid confusion for the future of statehood, the 36 30 line split the country in two, anything above this line was free, anything below this line was slave. As time went on, after slavery eventually was abolished, women then started their journey for voting rights. Glancing at the women s suffrage and slavery, though not treated as poorly, women had almost the same rights as slaves. Women wished for rights and the act of abolition just as much as any slave ever could. Community Policing Defined Community policing Community policing is defined as a philosophy that promotes organizational strategies, which support the systematic use of partnerships and problem solving techniques, to proactively address the immediate conditions that give rise to public safety issues such as crime, social disorder, and fear of crime according to the U.S. Department of Justice. (U. S. Department of Justice). This style of policing attempts to modify the department through a system called de bureaucratization and has four major goals to meet. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Assigning key officers to permanent locations, Chicago officers could gain greater knowledge of the community problems and how to solve them responsibly. Community policing displays the basic elements of policing and it has some helped shape recent policing strategies such as Problem Oriented Policing and Zero Tolerance Policing. The most important obvious difference from other policing strategies is that it represents a major change in the basic role of a police officer. Traditionally police officers were used to only fight crime, with community policing it broaden their role to order maintenance, conflict resolution and social and physical disorders within the home. Problem oriented policing main focus is based on law, order and fear problems. Unlike Community policing, POP opts that officers should address particular problems and develop creative responses to each one. Instead of a crime fighter image officers under the POP ideology function as problem solvers, planners, and community advocates. • 12. Analysis Of Thomas Hobbes s Leviathan Laviathan, Thomas Hobbes most important work and one of the most substantial philosophical texts of the Seventeenth century, was written largely as a response to the political violence and turmoil of England s civil wars. In Leviathan, Hobbes, using science and reason as a foundation, attempts to create a concrete and methodological solution for peace and political stability. In the context of a historically violent and fear stricken period in which Leviathanwas written, it is logical that Hobbes would claim man s principal motivation to maintain peace and avoid war is due to a fear of death, therefore forcing man to seek the preservation of life. Hobbes central idea in Leviathan centers on the necessity for absolute sovereigntyand a commonwealth through covenant (social contract). For Hobbes, past democratic governments only encouraged factionalism and internal conflict within the state. The lack of centralized power served only to distract these governments from pressing issues and exterior threats, thus Hobbes believed the presence of a strong central power such as an absolute sovereign would preserve peace. Hobbes presents the essential idea of absolute sovereignty and commonwealth through the metaphor of the Leviathan. The leviathan serves as a symbol for the state. It is described, as a creature whose body is made up of all of the bodies of its citizens while the head of the Leviathan is the sovereign. The leviathan is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the legal person cannot be easily defined especially when one must consider the feminine gender. Although it is a fact that women are people with the same legal rights and responsibilities as men, several aspects of what is understood to be legal personhood conflicts with the unique characteristics of the female gendersuch as pregnancy. This reflects the deeply seated tradition of patriarchy within the law that is the largest concern of liberal feminists. With Thomas Jefferson, there is a particularly strong need for him to be seen as a man of outstanding character. However, Jefferson s personally life has long been plagued with stories of controversy, particularly his intimate life involving one of his slaves, Sarah, or Sally, Hemings. By examining the relationships of Thomas Jefferson, with strong attention to the Hemings family, it becomes clear that his intimate life is one of America s greatest historical scandals. In order to fully understand the most publicized controversy surrounding Thomas Jefferson, his affair with Sally Hemings, it is important to grasp his relationships with other women in his lifetime. In a work dedicated specifically to the women of Jefferson s life, historian Jon Kukla outlines the struggles that Jefferson experienced when faced with the building relationships with young women. He offers information regarding Jefferson s intimate life that many biographical texts do not include. His argument reaches beyond Sally Hemings and Martha Jefferson; it begins with Jefferson s youth, and his uncomfortable experiences with girls during his teen years. The first relationship that Thomas Jefferson ever hoped to engage in was with a young woman by the name of Rebecca Burwell. This quote not only tells us that there was a possible explosion inside the World Trade Center, but that there seem to have been more than one. If the collapse of the towers really was a controlled demolition as it looked like to many, this would mean that a lot of premeditated work to place explosives would have had to occur. Seeing as very few people have access to every place of the World Trade Center, it does seem likely that some government cooperation would have been needed to make it happen. Many researchers claim that the explosions heard in and around the World Trade Center could have been from exploding electrical transformers. The given which is held in all of us has access that is highly privileged and presupposes no learning and no prior form of associations. It provides the foundation and first layer for empirical knowledge. The knowledge that is gained through experience and pure reason. Empirical knowledge comes from observation. I will argue in favor of Sellars rejection of the Given; that the Myth of the Given is truly untenable. Wilfrid Sellars labeled the existence of such knowledge as the Myth of the Given. When calling something a myth then that would mean that it does not exist at all. Sellars rejected all the arguments that were in favor that were put forward in supporting the existence of the given and claims that empirical knowledge, which has been dictated as rational and has no need for the given. His position in disregarding the given has been constituted as the main focus of the philosopher s career. Let s delve straight into why Sellars decided to dismiss the given. Sellars rejected the idea that knowledge is given. The Myth of the Given plays on the notion that knowledge is either basic or given . He is also believed to have been born with a different name, and his birthday is unknown because he was born out of wedlock. Despite this, his father made sure he had a good education by sending him to a prestigious Latin school when he was 9 years old. However, when Erasmus s parents died, he was sent to live with guardians who strongly believed that he should become a Monk. During this time, Erasmus gained a personal relationship with God but was opposed to the strict rules and teachings of the school. Poverty eventually forced Erasmus into a monastery in 1492, where he was ordained a Catholic priest. He then became the secretary for Henry de Bergen, the bishop of Chambray, which allowed him to travel across Europe for the next ten years to study Latin and literature. These studies led to his discovery of Renaissance humanism. In the early 1500s, not long after his travels, Erasmus was invited to lecture in theology at the University of Cambridge and it was during this time that Erasmus began to publish literature showing his some of his new ideas and criticisms of society and the church. These ideas started to become well known after he published one of his early works, Praise of Folly. His ideas stood out from others of the time and sparked debate all over Europe. The advantage of a specific subsidy is a greater quantity of nanny services can be produced, achieving social optimum, at a relatively lower price. There are low socioeconomic status consumers with low levels of income and poverty. Conscious or oblivious of the spill over benefits in the consumption of nanny services, they are financially incapable to afford nanny services and are excluded in the marginal private benefit curve. The Minimum Drinking Age Act Some people find it hard to understand that at the age of eighteen you can fight and die for your country, but you cannot legally drink or purchase alcoholic beverages. Others find it hard to believe that there are people who want people under the age of twenty one drinking. The important question is: should the drinking age be lowered to eighteen instead of remaining at twenty one? The legal drinking ageis the age at which a person can consume or purchase alcohol. These laws cover a wide range of issues and behaviors, addressing when and where alcohol can be consumed. The National Minimum Drinking Age Actwas passed by Congress 30 years ago. This law told states that they had to enforce the drinking age of 21 or lose up to ten percent of their federal highway funding. The idea that a person was fully an adult at age 21 relates to an English common law. 21 was the age where a person could vote and become a knight. If a person was 21, they could drink then, too. Franklin Roosevelt approved lowering the minimum age for the military draft from 21 to 18 during World War II. Organizations like Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) began pushing for the national drinking age to be set at 21. They thought it would keep alcohol out of the hands of 18 year olds who they felt were less mature.
