Analysis Of The Interlopers And The Machine That Won The War
What do you prefer to read about? Maybe you like reading fiction or nonfiction, about heroes and
villains, in past or future. Whatever your preferences, when most people read a book, they typically
want to read about something relatable. People want to read about people that are like them. The
Interlopers and The Machine That Won the War
are both short stories full of interesting plot points
that keep the readers hooked right until the last word. The Interlopers is about two men hunting
each other in the night, until a twist happens. The Machine That Won the War
is about three men
revealing secrets about how the war was truly won. However, The Interlopers offers a more realistic
plot and relatable characters than The Machine that Won the War. In The Interlopers, the short story
starts out by taking us to a forest of mixed growth somewhere on the eastern spurs of the
Carpathians (Saki, The Interlopers). The winter night is cold and stormy, with the wind blowing
wildly and the animals uneasy, there was movement and unrest among the creatures that were wont
to sleep through the dark hours (Saki, The Interlopers). The forests are very steep, and the game it
kept for hunting was not that great, however the two characters and their family have quarreled
over it for years. The narrow strip of precipitous woodland that lay on its outskirt was not
remarkable for the game it harbored or the shooting it afforded. (Saki, The Interlopers). Hunting in
these woods is the character

Filial Piety In A Devoted Son
Filial Piety in A Devoted Son A Devoted Son is the story of Rakesh, a young Indian man and the
relationship with his family. He receives top honors at school, accolades from his American and
Indian comrades, rises to the director of the local hospital, and becomes the richest doctor in his
town. Critics argue this is Desai s comment about perfect Indian society, where adherence to filial
piety, respecting one s parents, elders, and ancestors, is paramount (Crane). Rakesh s view of it
leads to a breakdown in his relationship with his father. The father feels neglected by his family
because they no longer respect his wishes. To Rakesh, belief in protecting his family from the
ills of society, despite their temptation, proves his dedication to family (Desai). Filial piety in the
abstract is a good standard to live by, but it could lead to destruction because adhering to it
removes emotions. In the beginning, the relationship between Rakesh and his parents was an
admirable one. Rakesh considers his parents feelings prior to making major decisions. From
choosing a wife to becoming the primary caretaker to his father after his mother s death, Rakesh s
sole desire seems to make his parents proud. Though the author does not dwell on the concept of
filial piety regarding the mother, she shows her dedication to the family at the expense of her health.
The mother s death marks a change in the family. The old father very quickly went to pieces,
(Desai) and could not adjust

Controversial Aspects of Decommissioning the Edwards Dam
Controversial Aspects of Decommissioning the Edwards Dam In 1991 the Edwards
Manufacturing Company, owner of the Edwards Dam on the Kennebec River in Augusta, ME,
applied to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for a renewal of their license to
operate a privately owned hydroelectric dam. Their application was denied; Edwards
Manufacturing Company was required to come up with a plan for the enacting and financing of
decommissioning the dam, as well as the restoration of the river. This was the first time in history
that the federal government ordered a privately owned hydroelectric dam destroyed against the
wishes of the owner. Numerous factors were involved which eventually led to this decision, namely

There are a number of environmental advantages that would occur upon decommissioning the
Edwards Dam, most notably the rejuvenation of fish populations and the resulting increase in
numbers of the osprey and bald eagles which feed upon them. Historically, the Kennebec River
provided extensive top quality breeding grounds for all ten species of anadromous fish native to the
northeastern U.S., a distinction that the Kennebec River alone could boast of. Anadromous fish
make their home in the ocean but embark upon the tough journey upstream once a year to lay their
eggs. Since the erection of the Edwards Dam in 1837, and the subsequent construction of more than
a hundred dams upstream of the Edwards, these fish have been effectively blocked off from prime
spawning grounds. The removal of the dam would open up fifteen miles of these grounds,
seventeen miles total before encountering the next obstruction, making this the longest
uninterrupted stretch of high quality breeding grounds north of the Hudson River (Howe,1998).
The possibility of freeing such a considerable amount of breeding grounds had conservationists up
in arms over the matter of renewing the operation license of the Edwards Manufacturing

Grinding Is A Metal Cutting Operation
Grinding is a metal cutting operation performed by means of abrasive particles rigidly mounted
on a rotating wheel. Each of the abrasive particles act as a single point cutting tool and grinding
wheel acts as a multipoint cutting tool. The grinding operation is used to finish the work pieces
with extremely high quality of surface finish and accuracy of shape and dimension. Grinding is
one of the widely accepted finishing operations because it removes material in very small size of
chips 0.25 to 0.50 mm. It provides accuracy of the order of 0.000025 mm. grinding of very hard
material is also possible. 1.3.1 Objectives: Provide excellent quality of surface finish to the
surface, Impart high quality of accuracy of shape and dimension, Finishing of hardened metallic
surfaces, Sharpening of cutting edges of cutting tools, Maintaining tool geometry of cutting
tools, Flattening and forming of surfaces, Finishing of castings by removing impressions of
sprues, risers, parting lines, etc., and Removal of scales and burrs, etc. 1.3.2 TYPES OF
GRINDING: There can be different criteria to classify grinding into different categories. On the
basis of quality of grinding, it is classified as rough grinding and precision grinding.  Rough
Grinding: It involves removal of stock without any reference to the accuracy of results. Generally,
rough grinding is followed by precision grinding.  Precision Grinding : Precision

Willy Loman Is To Blame
In this essay I will be writing about how much Willy Loman is to blame and is not to blame for
his own actions. Willy Loman is a sixty three year old man who is depicted to be on the verge of
a breakdown. Loman is a very delusional character who appears to live predominantly in the
past, which is made clear from his tone and Miller s stage directions which demonstrate the use
of expressionism. At the heart of everything Willy does, lay his children: Biff and Happy. All the
same, every dream Willy ever has had has been rooted by the idea of the American Dream the
idea of having the perfect and idealistic life where anyone can become successful as long as they
are well liked. This idea is carried throughout the play and becomes personified... Show more

The son a pioneer inventor and the slave of the industrialised world, Willy Loman exemplifies the
victim of a changing capitalistic society. Arthur Miller eludes to this even in the character s name
Loman, which pronounced correctly reveals the words Low man. Death of a Salesman engages the
audiences conflicting attitudes toward this changing society: fear of the new and unfamiliar
and to accommodate technology to cultural mythologies by subordinating it personally. This is
evident in Howard s office, who is Willy s boss. In this scene Willy is going to ask to work in
New York but instead of getting his office job, he is fired. Willy has now lost everything: his
years of service, his pride and his salary because he is no longer as productive as he once was.
This scene not only marks a tragic point in Willy s life it also gives proof of the changes that
occur in a capitalist system. Willy s termination goes along with the out with the old and in with
the new theory of such a system. Again, this leaves us thinking that as a tragic protagonist, Willy
Loman is not culpable for his own actions; In fact, society is. If capitalist views had not become
the culture for 1940 America then perhaps Willy would not be suffering like he is. He became a
salesman because he was told and believed that if he was a salesman, who was well liked and
therefore successful, then he

Explain The Barriers Of Effective Communication In Healthcare
How Barriers to Effective Communication in Healthcare Can be Overcome
This essay will begin by exploring what communication is and how it is defined. The components
needed for communication to be effective and why effective communication is an important aspect
of healthcare. It will then go on to discuss barriers to effective communication and how they can be
overcome.
Communication is the process by which information is exchanged between a sender and receiver,
resulting in a common understanding. The word communication originates from the Latin word
communis meaning common. Therefore without a common understanding being achieved from an
information exchange, communication has not taken place. It has become recognised that quality
of communication in the healthcare setting is as important as practical skills and clinical
knowledge and a vital component of an integrated approach to practice in healthcare. It has been
demonstrated that understanding the needs and desires of the client, putting client choices and ...

While the sender of a communication has to consider the language and medium used to send
information in the best way they can, to be fully understood as intended, they also have to develop
the skill to listen and receive information communicated back from the receiver. The author, George
Bernard Shaw wrote the greatest problem with communication is the illusion that it has been
accomplished . Feedback is vital in making sure information has been understood as intended and a
common understanding has been achieved, if this is not the case, it provides the sender with an
opportunity to respond with further information to increase clarity and understanding. Summarising
(providing a verbal summary of information gathered or received) can be used throughout
communication to confirm that mutual understanding has been achieved and to correct any

Designing A Different Operating System
You can t know where you re going unless you know where you been, this saying rings true
when thinking of Lunix. In order to know the start of Lunix one would have to travel back in
time quite a bit. In this paper, I will research the start of Linux, the growth, and the future. When
thinking of computers imagine they are as big as the tallest building or stadium. While the size
of those computers posed problems, there was the one thing that made them worse: every
computer had a different operating system. Software was customized to serve a certain purpose,
and software didn t run from one system to another. This was painful for both the system
administrators and users alike. Computers were so expensive back then, and so many sacrifices
had to made even after the original big purchase just to get the users to understand how the parts
worked together. Technology at that time was not so advanced, so this was the way of life for
another decade or so. In 1969, the beginning of finding a solution to the software problem began.
The first developer Ken Thompson is an American pioneer in computer science. He started out

Social Media In Major League Baseball
Social media has taken the world by storm for the last couple of years and because of that a lot of
major league sport teams have needed to revise or make up a brand new social media policy for
their players to adhere to. Many major league players, no matter the sport, love using social
media to primarily interact with their fans and with social media growing, having stricter policies
on the professional players are needed in order to have control of some of the things that are being
said on social media. In March of 2012, the Major League Baseball(MLB) association constructed a

The Effects Of Social Media On Society Essay
Social media has become prominent parts of life for many young people today. Most people
engage with social media without stopping to think what the effects are on our lives, whether
positive or negative. Are we as a society becoming more concerned with Facebook friends than
we are with the people we interact with face to face in our daily lives? What will the longterm
effects of today s social media use be? There are many positive aspects, but there are equally as
many dangers that come with the use of sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest,
Google +, Tumblr, Instagram, gaming sites, and blogs. Social media has both negative and
positive effects on society, it is up to the user to decide what impact they want to make. In order to
make the right choices, we must dig in and research this topic thoroughly. Recent research has
documented how technology, and social networking sites (SNS; e.g., Facebook, Instagram) in
particular, have given rise to a growing obsession with impression management and self
presentation online. Whether it s searching for the perfect Instagram photo filter or carefully
crafting a humblebrag Facebook status about a recent publication, users frequently engage in
selective self presentation strategies to portray an ideal self through social media (Chou Edge,
2012; Manago, Graham, Greenfield, Salimkhan, 2008). In turn, we seek out social approval and
positive feedback in the form of comments and likes. With steep increases in the

Zzzz Best Case Study
ZZZZ Best, a carpet cleaning company, was founded by Barry Minkow in 1982 in Reseda,
California. Barry always wished to succeed in business and become the American Dream of
financial success. When he was nine years old, he worked as a telemarketer in a carpet cleaning
business. Six years later, when he was only sixteen years old, he began his personal carpet
business in his parent s garage in Los Angeles (ZZZZ Best Case Places SEC Procedures Under
Scrutiny). He had three employees and was considered the most successful teenage businessman in
the United States. Minkow discovered he could become very successful in business through
insurance restoration. He would file a claim for restoration of the business from a natural disaster.
ZZZ Best was profitable in carpet cleaning, yet 85% of the business profits came from fraudulent
insurance restoration business. Minkow used insurance restoration as a cover for the cost of the
money he was acquiring illegally (Taylor). Shortly after, insurance restoration became the major
source of revenue for the company s income, rather than carpet cleaning. Minkow s dream in
becoming successful in business caused him to become more innovative. He started using his
counterfeit financial statements to persuade wealthy entrepreneurs to invest in ZZZZ Best.
Ultimately, Minkow realized that the crucial scam would be to make his company public. This
would enable him to utilize the bank accounts of investors nationwide. By becoming a public

Argumentative Essay On Self Reliance
Everyone in life has at least one person who has strongly influenced them in one way or another,
but what if that influence ended up being hurtful? In the essay Self Reliance by Ralph Emerson,
Emerson gives his advice on how to live independently. Emerson says self reliance is to trust
oneself and believe in oneself. He states that this is important because being self reliant leads to
a successful path in life. By having individual ideas one will end up doing something she or he
wants to do in life which causes success for that individual. He discusses how the only person
one needs to listen to in life is oneself and that no other person should influence one s life. I
believe there are people in this world that can have a negative influence on one s life, but also
people that can have a positive influence. For example, in basketballmy positive influences
(parents, teammates, and coaches) help me to succeed in a team sport. Emerson begins his
article by talking about the importance of self reliance. He defines self reliance as thinking for
oneself and not letting anyone else influence one in any way, shape, or form. As a human being
this may be one of the most difficult tasks. Emerson explains that being self reliant can be
difficult especially for adults because they are too worried about their reputations and how
others will look upon them. Emerson also says, Trust thyself (2). Emerson believes that one
should go with his or her gut in everything she or he does. Even if what she or he wants to do
goes against the thoughts of others she or he still needs to pursue his or her dreams. The last thing
Emerson wants people to do is be embarrassed of what others will think of themselves. People need
to throw away others thoughts and opinions and follow one s own.
Emerson also believes that one can be great through being self reliant. He says, To be great is to
be misunderstood (7). This tells one that if others seem to be judging or confused on what one is
doing with his or her life, one should ignore the others, and continue to follow what she or he
believes. Emerson explains that if one is misunderstood by others that she or he is on the path to
success. For example, when Jesus followers were

Immediately after Rick has received the film s first star close up, Casablanca yields its first shot
from the point of view of a single individual at nine minutes into the film when Rick observes the
German s attempt to enter. For most of the remainder of the film, Rick s point of view is
privileged, and his face and body are centered. This is especially true when he is in the company
of Victor Laszlo, who is regularly consigned to the margins of the frame throughout the sequence
when Rick first encounters Ilsa and her husband in the cafe. All of this seems natural because the
film has so carefully constructed the viewer as a secret sharer in Rick s vision. The innumerable
choices that are made in the production of each shot in Casablanca are concealed by our
acceptance of Rick as our surrogate. Although few would find reason to object, the film chooses to
deprive Laszlo of a flashback, not to mention an As Time Goes Byto unite him with Ilsa.
Ray points out that this concealing of the necessity for choice also governs the thematic paradigm
in Casablanca. The film invites the audience to identify with Rick rather than Laszlo even though
official American wartime sentiments are consistently voiced by Laszlo. Rick regularly insists
upon unmediated self interest, I stick my neck out for nobody , I m the only cause I m interested
in , a position that Ferrari explicitly identifies with a discredited American tradition: My dear Rick,
when will you realize

As social beings, the innate, evolutionary instinct of human beings is to conform to the greater

they also go against evolution. In other words, to be a nonconformist is to reject the benefits of
having the support of a group, thus rejecting better chances at survival. But what happens when the
greater societal norms are based on inhumane, monstrous ideas of a crazed political leader? What

For example, when one of the men declined to take part in what would be later known as the

Browning shows through the account of the men s initiation into mass murder that the stigma of

someone who does not support his country made the choice of conformity a tough one. Many of
the men stayed silent when the option was presented. However, Browning shows that the one

The comparison of internal and external conflicts and their affects on lives.
Essay? HOOK:
The story Blue Winds Dancing by Thomas S. Whitecloud demonstrates the experience of a native
man transitioning to his life into a white society. It exhibits the internal and external struggles in
the native s life that he encounters throughout his life. However, the native is an outcast and has
a longing to go back to his native reserve. In comparison, Angel Levine by Bernard Malamud
describes the life of a Jewish man, named Manischevitz, who lost everything: his children, his
business, and his wife because of her fatal illness. He reaches out to God, but there is no response
which also leads him to lose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Manischevitz is distraught when a Black Angel appears to help, and he realises that all hope is
lost. This negatively affects Mr. Manischevitz because he seeks affirmation from God, although,
he does not believe in the black angel s powers. This leads Manischevitz down a spiral where he
smote to the naked bones, cursing himself for having believed in God to help him in his time of
need. On the other hand, in Blue Winds Dancing, the native also undergoes an internal conflict; the
native feels alone and lost in the White world. He feels like an outsider with no place in the
white world that he desperately wants to accept him. The native compares himself to a hobo
because they both are outsiders because they cherish different things from a typical white man.
Additionally, the native in the story does not have a name to symbolize that his experience is
very similar to many other natives who want to be apart of the white world. Overall, the native is
having an Identity crisis because he does not know whether to acculturate and become like every
other white man or go back to the blanket because it is familiar to him. He longs for home because
he does not agree with the white man s customs of getting a hill and wanting a mountain . He wants
to return back home where people can be free and the native can truly be himself. These internal
conflicts are similar because both protagonists encounter identity crises which cause them to seek
affirmation in their faith

The Wilderness And Environment In Ancient Epics
The significance of the wilderness and environment in the three ancient texts, the Ramayana, the
Epic of Gilgamesh and the Odyssey is indisputable. It goes beyond just being the backdrop for the
action in the epics and instead, influences the action in some way. For this very reason, the
environment becomes as important as the central characters in the epics. The Ramayana s Cedar
forestwas a den of mystical creatures, sages and demons that created challenges for the hero. It
occasionally altered the character s behaviors and tested their will to follow their dharma, which is
an individual s duty fulfilled by observance of custom or law
( dharma ). In the Epic of
Gilgamesh, the wilderness serves as a frightening force for the hero to tame and civilize, resulting
in it being one of the themes carried out through the narrative. The sea in the Odysseyhurled
obstacles at the hero and his men that they had to fight through on their journey back home and was
representative of the Ancient Greeks way of living under the influence of the gods. These
environments, no matter how distant in cultural context, all have a significant effect on their
respective characters and story lines.
Pancavati, which is the forest in the Ramayana, is the place where Rama, the prince of Ayodya,
withdraws to after being exiled from his kingdom.. Throughout the epic, the forest is often viewed
as an antithesis of the kingdom, where all tradition is has to self imposed because there is no norm to

Mail Order Brides By Marie Belleau
Mail Order Brides
Women generally marry because they desire to live happily ever after with the man of their
dreams. They have desires to marry a certain type of man, with blue eyes and blonde hair or green
eyes and brown hair. Certain women want to raise kids with the assistance of a caring, loving
husband. In other countries, women often transfer to another country to marry, in hopes of
achieving that dream of a content family. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. For a mail
order bride, her husband typically tries to maintain an authority over her, even physically abusing
her into submission. She complies only because her husband could have her deported and she
needs him to provide necessities for her. Since mail order brides are generally abused by their
husbands, these women need to be protected, especially since they are in a foreign country and
cannot defend themselves.
Mail order brides are women who transfer to another country to marry. Marie Claire Belleau
describes these women as victims of difficult relationships, separations, and divorces (595).
Basically, women that are mail ordered had been in failed relationships, so they crave redemption
by traveling to another country and marrying a specific type of man they hope are different than
their previous experiences. Except in reality, the mail order brides aren t treated as they imagined.
The husbands often beat their wives into submission, while the women can t protest for fear of

Cass and Jonas are both very intelligent. Also, they both think deeply before saying anything so
they don t hurt anyone. On top of that, they both were very successful in their jobs/schoolwork.
Jonas was selected as the Receiver of Memory, an assignment only wise people receive. He has
shown all of the qualities that a receiver must have... Intelligence... Integrity... Courage... The
fourth essential attribute is wisdom. (Lowry 60,61) Simaritily, Cass was accepted into Yale,
which is an ivy league school. What she was, was student body president two years running, star

Renaissance Dbq
Renaissance DBQ During the Renaissance time period, each man and woman needed to strive to
meet the ideal image that was expected by society. If this image was not met, the person would be
judged by society. Both males and females had different goals that they needed to meet in
education, as well as in their lives. While there was an ideal image, some people disagreed with
them. There was always a distinct role for both women and men, but within those roles, there could
be controversy. The most controversy could occur over the educationthat the males and females

Castiglione had the ideal image in his mind of exactly what people needed to be and the way
they should act. When he said this, it was greatly respected because of his writing of his well
known conduct book. However, people began to veer away from this ideal of a needed education;
it became a major change for society. Later on, in the Letter to the Parlement of Dijon concerning
the reopening of a French Jesuit school, it was explicitly said that all men do not need an
education. Some men need to do work that is not based off of education; they need to do the
basics that make society properly function. The study of literature is appropriate only to a small
minority of men. This statement explicitly says that an education is not for everyone, boldly
going against Castiglione. (11) This was a bold statement to make, because it showed a drastic
change in people s point of view of a proper man. Along with saying not all people needed to be
educated, there was also the vast criticism of the school system and the way it was teaching. The
concepts being learned in school needed to be more readily applied into real life situations, and
this did not seem to be the true goal. (8) While there was vast change in the view of the education of

How Did Al Capone Impact Society
During the period of prohibition, from 1920 to 1933, the sale, manufacture and transportation of
alcohol was made illegal, through the Volstead act of 1919, leading to the first and only time an
Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was repealed. Throughout this time in American history
gangsters were common and were constantly increasing in every city but one in particular stood out
from all the others making a significant impact on American history. Scarface, Alphonse Capone or
more commonly known as Al Capone; who was the most infamous gangster, taking advantage of the
era of Prohibition, ran an organized crimeassociation in Chicago during the 1920s. He was
responsible for over 500 murders; he had 700 men under his control and earned $60 million a
year for bootlegging. Capone, who was glamorised in media and shown as charitable to the
helpless was also controlling and violent and became an iconic figure of the successful American
gangster who insisted he was just supplying the public demand .
As Al Capone was such a controversy his significance, the interpretations of how he made an
impact on American lives, culture and politics and how he was remembered at the time and

Usually our impulsive acts have no ill effects, but in some instances they may involve risk.

Clinicians usually become aware of a person s kleptomania only when the individual is in
treatment for some other psychological problem such as an anxiety disorder, psychoactive
substance abuse, eating disorder, or mood disorder (Bradford Balmaceda, 1983; McElroy et al.,
1991). The fact that most kleptomaniacs seen in a clinical context also suffer from another
psychological disorder raises some interesting questions. Is it possible that kleptomanic behavior is
a symptom of some other disorder, possibly biologically caused? With this possibility in mind, some
researchers have speculated that a serotonin deficiency might underlie kleptomania, an idea that is
supported by the fact that the medication fluoxetine (Prozac), which increases serotonin in the
nervous system, has been found to reduce kleptomanic behavior (McElroy et al., 1991). In addition
to pharmacological interventions, behavioral treatments are also used to help individuals control
their urge to steal. In covert sensitization, the client is insstructed to conjure up aversive images
during the act of stealing (Glover, 1985). For example, a kleptomaniac may be instructed to conjure
up disgusting images, such as vomit, when the compulsion to steal is emerging.

and this resulted in failure to properly investigate issues. Senior executives did not encourage input
from the lower ranking engineers. The engineers saw potential danger from a foam strike to the

many NASA meetings were inconsistent and ineffective. NASA management meetings were

Diamonds Research Papers
Diamonds
Diamonds are commonly known for their stunning lustre, representing innocence and constancy.
Not only do diamonds have tremendous admiration for their beauty and meaning, their unique
chemical structure gains appreciation from scientists across the globe. The word diamond
originates from the greek word adamas, which means indestructible. Provided diamonds are the
hardest substance on the planet, the definition has significant reason (Helmenstine, n.d.). Having an
estimated age of 3.2 billion years, the incredible strength of diamonds allows them to maintain their
composition despite significant changes in their environment (Geoscience News and Information,
2015).The extremely strong chemical structure of diamonds contributes to its unique chemical and
physical properties, which allow diamonds to be used for a variety of practical applications.
Diamonds do not originate on the earth s surface, whereas they form in the mantle about 150 km
below, due to extremely high temperatures of about 1050 degrees celsius and pressures of about
13733 MPa (Schlumberger Excellence in Education Development, 2015). The majority of
discovered diamonds have been brought to the earth s surface in Xenolith, from the earth s mantle,
as a result of volcanic eruptions. Asteroid and meteorite sites also often result in high temperatures
and pressures, which release stardust and debris, often including diamond crystals. NASA scientists
have found many nanodiamonds in meteorites within our

The Art of Argumentation
The art of argumentation has become very complex and multi dimensional in a sense of the
many didn t ways you can approach it. Argumentation is communicative reason in situations
where people sole purpose is to prove something through justified acts, beliefs, attitudes, and
values. Argumentation is said to mainly rely on good reason and, that is the audience base to
agree or degree with the agreement. In any situation every audience is different so therefore
good reason can be impacted by culture, which let leaves the decision making to argumentation.
Argumentation has become a part of ones everyday life, no matter the culture or the location. An
argument can be made in a small or big way; it simple just depends on the situation. If 20 year
old Tommy calls his mom and tells her that everyone in the world is going to be at the Adam
Levine concert and if he misses the concert it will be the end of his social life. Tommy made an
argument to his mother whether he was trying to or not. Debate is a big part of argumentation
because it all about persuading and convincing the audience to understand or agree with
whoever may be speaking. The process of inquiry and advocacy is debate. Debate requires two
completive sides in an engaging head to head clash of support for or against a specific proposition.
In this paper four to five different fallacies will be discussed, defined and shown how they co exist
in real life situations as well as in debates. The fallacies that will be

Standardized Tests With End Of Year Subject Tests
Brittany, an honors student in Atlanta, Georgia had worked hard her complete academic career to
celebrate what would be her pleased moment in the high school. She needed to walk around the
stage to the flash of the cameras and the smiles of her family like her classmates. So she collected
her proud family members form the Chicago and Washington to come to share in her joy. The
problem is that she had not passed one of the four subject regions in the graduationtest of the state,
which students must pass to receive the regular diploma. She is not alone. Lots of the students
failed during the graduation test across the state. (Torres, 2010)
The purpose of this proposal on substituting standardized tests with end of year subject tests is to
attract readers that changing assessments in the education will improve the education. The problem
ad their outcomes as well as the solution are the consequence of thorough research on these tests.
Everyone is affected by the power of our educational system, form the students and their capability
to flourish in college and in the workplace.
Standardized tests should be eliminated and substitute with the end of year subject tests because
they will save time and money, lead to raised mastery of core subjects and reduce dropout rates.
The solution to this problem is MOST or mastery of subject tests, which are the end of year subject
tests to be the administered to every student before graduation, to control his or her mastery of the

The Argument For The Natural World
According to Aquinas arguments, the natural world includes everything that is in existence. This
includes ideologies such as motion, God, gravity, solar radiation, and our physical environment as
whole. The natural world is not only made up of things that our senses can detect, such as touch and
smell, but is also includes things such as God and gravity which are unattainable through the
senses. According to Immanuel Kant, the sensible world includes anything that can become known
to humans. The sensible world includes things such as time and space. By reviewing the definition
of the sensible world, the plausibility of the argument for the natural world is effected positively.
Due to the fact that the natural world consists of things that the humansenses can detect, along with
anything that is within the world, this argument goes hand in hand with the ideology of the sensible
world. In correlation with Aquinas s third argument, something cannot exist being necessary and
noneternal because in order for a being to be necessary it must be eternal. This is due to the fact
that in Aquinas argument, a necessary being is eternal because nothing else brings it into existence.
In order to better understand an example of an object that would exists at some point in each
possible world, but not at all times within the actual world, it is crucial to understand the definition
of each term. Elliot Sober defines the actual world as, the totality of things that have existed, now

Italian Unification Dbq Essay
In order to restore France after the Napoleonic Era, the Quadruple Alliance, Russia, Prussia,
Austria, and Great Britain, held a meeting called the Congress of Vienna in order to establish peace
between countries. The four countries decided that creating borders within Europe and receiving
compensation in the form of territory would be an effective reminder of the pain France had caused
during its revolution. After decades of dealing with borders placed by the Quadruple Alliance, the
inhabitants of Italy wanted a more unified peninsula. Although many leaders of Europeproposed
ideas for fixing this problem, many of them such as Cavour and Napoleon III had ulterior
motives. The unification of Italy took such a long time because its politicians were not being
honest about what they actually wanted. One of the most influential political figures in Europe
during this time was Count Camillo Benso di Cavour, a politician from Piedmont Sardinia who
had very small and realistic goals for Italy (Hearder 40). To him, there was no hope for a
democratic revolution across Italy, and he viewed the settlement from the Congress of Vienna as

The Australian Emissions Trading Scheme
Abstract
The Australian emissions trading scheme (ETS) has been the hope of climate policy makers and
environmental scientists alike to reduce the national carbon footprint. Replacing the implemented
carbon tax law, the Australian ETS is a political issue due to the economic and social problems it
entails. With the carbon tax being repealed recently by the current government, the comparison to
the unpopular European Union ETS further emphasizes on its setbacks that it poses (Wood, 2010;
Adams, 2014; Watkins, 2014). Hence a move to the ETS will be unlikely in the future.

The Carbon Tax Law and Emissions TradingScheme
Up to 2013, successive Australian governments have lobbied for an emissions trading scheme
(ETS) to curb national emissions. One such legislative measure is the carbon tax law passed in
Parliament in July 2012 through Acts such as the Clean Energy Act. Using a fixed taxation price of
$A23 per tonne which will increase by 2.5% per annum, the carbon tax law applies to the company
operations and facilities of Australia s top 500 polluters which exceed the annual direct emissions
limit (Foran, 2011; Guglyuvatyy, 2012). These high polluting industries range from electrical power
plants to the mining sector. The carbon tax law will subsequently transit into a cap and trade ETS
managed by the Climate Change Authority in 2015. Also known as the Carbon Pricing Mechanism,
this statutory institution will supervise carbon prices on an auction market, making the prices of
greenhouse gases flexible (Guglyuvatyy, 2012; Adams, 2014). The aim of the ETS is to create
economic incentives to entice industries to take environmentally friendly measures without
negatively affecting the national job market and economic growth (AuGov, 2012; Adams, 2014). At
that point, the Australian government also projected future aims of linking the national ETS with
that of the European Union (AuGov, 2012; Watkins, 2014).

for the novel while spending time in jail for having problems in his job. He had a duty as a tax

reason why he ended up locked away. He performed this job as tax collector as a day job in order to

Interpreting The Song Halo
CHOICE
The hit song Halo was performed by BeyoncГ© Knowles. Ryan Tedder (lead vocalist of
OneRepublic), Evan Bogart and BeyoncГ© composed it. Halo will always be one of my
favorite BeyoncГ© songs because she sings it with such a powerful voice that fits with the song
and the lyrics, also not to mention the deep meaning behind the song. The great storyline and
bold lyrics was a huge factor in choosing to analyze this song. I like to listen to BeyoncГ© songs
and some of my favorites are: 7/11, If I were a Boy, Flawless, Loveon Top and Lemonade. In my
opinion, BeyoncГ© is and always will be a music legend. MEANING
Halo is a song about a woman who had been hurt by a past relationship and built walls around

The song starts off with a choir singing and violins playing softly. One of the key factors in the
mood of the song is the background music. Throughout the song the singers keep echoing halo
with the instruments also playing and BeyoncГ© always finds a way to match her voice to the
rhythm and tone of the music. This also creates a loud sound. I wouldn t consider Halo as a sad
song, more so moderate and full of compassion. The instruments used are: violin, cello, piano,
keyboard and bass drums. The instruments used give off a warm sentimental tender feeling when
combined with BeyoncГ© s voice and the background

Is there a way to estimate the cost of services and product to customers such that Stuart s Branded
Foods can be competitive in their market? Use the illustrations of the two customers to demonstrate
your approach. What would be the selling price per kit or per cup for each customer?
The costing approach should be based on per Transaction Basis rather than on per kit or per pound
basis because of the following reasons:
Current costs are allocated on a per kit basis, which is not an efficient cost allocation method.
Operational costs should be same irrespective of number of kits.
Equipment costs should be on a per kit basis as it depends on the number of kits sold.

What impact might it have upon the business strategy of the firm?
If Stuart Daw adopts the Transaction based Pricing Strategy it may face the following impact
On Performance:
The price per cup for both small as well as large customers is reduced.
It can maintain competitiveness in the large customer segment by maintaining 15% Profit Margin.
Revenue stream generated from the customer segments may get impacted with changes in
Transaction Costs and subsequently Price per Kit.
Improved cost allocation will ensure that the company can maintain competitiveness without any
appreciation in costs to customers.
On Strategy:
The company should target to serve the large customer base with better profit margins and also
choose to serve those small customers who are willing to pay the targeted price per kit.
For difficult to serve small customers alternate and cost effective means of ordering, transporting
and fulfilling the orders should be sought.
Personnel costs, both direct and indirect should be brought under control.
Promote bulk orders among the small customers so that effective price/cup for small customers can
be brought down.
Question 3
What advice would you offer to Stuart Daw?
Our advice to Stuart Daw would be:
Stuart Daw should adopt the new Transaction Cost allocation mechanism, which will enable it to
remain competitive in the large customer segment.

his political principles by buying the territory without consulting congress, it is clear that he didn t
abandon them, because he did it for an agrarian expansion, and because he believed that it was best
for Americans. Both of these reasons are two of the main ideals of the Republican... Show more

This was for several reasons, primarily being the hypocrisy of using the necessary and proper
clause after having attacked Hamilton relentlessly for having used the same clause to set up a
National Bank. It is obvious just how much hypocrisy was taking place when we see Jefferson
comments regarding the National Bank, in which he said, To take a single step beyond the
boundaries specially drawn around powers of Congress is to take possession of a boundless
field of power, no longer susceptible of any decision. By using the necessary and proper clause,
Jefferson managed to avoid having to go through Congress to get approval, and also managed to
avoid the state governments, just as Hamilton did. This was the exact opposite of what a typical
Republican would do, as they believed that the states should have much more power than the
federal government. Given that he appears to go against many of the Republican main ideals, he
was considered by several as a neo Federalist. However, even amongst all of this, it is still clear that
he didn t throw away his political ideals as many said he did, which can be seen in the ways that he
did all of this to help the people who he was

Separation Of Concrete Essay
3. COMPOSITION OF CONCRETE Cement and sand ready to be mixed.
There are many types of concrete available, created by varying the proportions of the main
ingredients below.
The mix design depends on the type of structure being built, how the concrete will be mixed and
delivered, and how it will be placed to form this structure.
Cement
Portland cement is the most common type of cement in general usage. It is a basic ingredient of
concrete, mortar, and plaster. English engineer Joseph Aspdin patented Portland cement in 1824; it
was named because of its similarity in colour to Portland limestone, quarried from the English Isle
of Portland and used extensively in London architecture. It consists of a mixture of oxides of
calcium, silicon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is weak in tension as the cement holding the aggregate in place can crack, allowing
the structure to fail. Reinforced concrete solves these problems by adding either meta reinforcing
bars, steel fibers, glass fiber, or plastic fiber to carry tensile loads. Chemical admixtures
Chemical admixtures are materials in the form of powder or fluids that are added to the concrete to
give it certain characteristics not obtainable with plain concrete mixes. In normal use, admixture
dosages are less than 5% by mass of cement, and are added to the concrete at the time of batching
/mixing. The most common types of admixtures are:
Accelerators speed up the hydration (hardening) of the concrete. Typical materials used are CaCl2
and NaCl. However use of Chlorides may cause corrosion in steel reinforcing and is prohibited in
some countries.
Acrylic retarders slow the hydration of concrete, and are used in large or difficult pours where
partial setting before the pour is complete is undesirable. A typical retarder is table sugar, or sucrose

Diary Of Kaamet Analysis
I was born on the month of Renwet, during the Fourth of Peret. My father used to tell me stories
of how both our moons fell on that day, an omen, an indication of prosperity and future success
to come. I never believed him, for I had never seen the moons fall. The planet of Kaamet has two
moons; the larger one named Khonsu, the smaller one named Iah. It is said that once every 500
years, these moons fall, and a new member of the royal family is born. The sky turns a deep, blood
red, with streaks of indigo and violet painting the sky. A vendetta of colour: raging, violent, yet
beautiful. The birthing ceremony was nearly perfect. The rites were performed by the highest
regarded priestesses of the kingdom, their incantations blending into... Show more content on

This man, as I would later find out, was my uncle Asim Khalfani, king of the Western kingdom.
A horn was blown, announcing his arrival, even though his presence seemed to fill up the entire
room. Asim strode over to where the king and queen were sitting. Brother , he exclaimed. It s
nice seeing you again! Father s face lit up at his brother s greeting. Yes Asim , he said, smiling. It
has been quite a while. But the festivities have started, and you are late! Come meet your niece.
Asim leaned over my cradle and kissed my forehead. He mumbled a prayer, blessing me, a
tradition for this occasion. It was at this moment that I knew that things would never be the same.
As Asim finished reciting the prayer, he tapped my forehead 3 times. Leaning in close, Asim
pressed his lips to my year and uttered three words that would change the course of Kaametian
history: I. Will.

Katherine Mansfield s Miss Brill
In Katherine Mansfield s Miss Brill, the main character is an elderly woman known as Miss Brill.
This short story focuses in on a Sunday afternoon spent with Miss Brill during her weekly ritual of
visiting a park in her hometown. The character s traits are told by the narrator through the eyes of
the main character. It is obvious that Miss Brill is a very complex, intricate character. Digging
deeper into her thoughts allows the central theme of distorted reality come to light. Looking at a
day in the life of Miss Brill reveals some of her prominent character traits of being lonely,
habitual, and distorted. One of Miss Brill s main character traits is her sense of loneliness. She
tries to cope with this feeling by visiting the park every Sunday to people watch. By listening and
watching the people around her, she is able to connect herself to them in an attempt to escape her
unappealing, anticlimactic life. Through eavesdropping on other people s conversations she is
sitting in other people s lives for just a minute (219). She wants to imagine herself included,
important, and a part of a family. What is interesting is the fact that Miss Brill doesn t make an
effort to engage in conversation with any of the other characters. She solely observes her
surroundings and makes judgements. She thinks of the other people as funny...odd, silent, nearly
all old...as though they d just come from dark little rooms (220). Rather than seeing herself as one
of them, she creates an

Fatigue Contributed And A Serious Medication Error
Fatigue contributed to a serious medication error in Wisconsin. After working a 16 hour shift, a
labor/delivery nurse came in the next morning to work another shift. Because she d had only a few
hours off between shifts, she d arranged to sleep at the hospital. Late in the morning of the second
day, she admitted a young patient. The physician had ordered an antibiotic to be given right away.
The nursepicked up what she thought was the antibiotic and hung it without scanning the patient or
the medication. Tragically, the drug she actually gave wasn t the antibiotic but bupivacaine
fentanyl, an epidural anesthetic. The patient died within an hour. Initially, the nurse was charged
with felony neglect of a patient causing great bodily harm, but pled guilty to the misdemeanor of
dispensing and illegally obtaining a prescription. Her nursing license was suspended for 9
months and she was barred from working in an obstetric or critical care area or working any
shift longer than 12 hours (American Nurse Today 25). For the past 15 years many people have
devoted their time and effort into the great debate centered around eight versus 12 hour nursing
shifts. Twelve hour shifts date back to the 1970s when they were used as a means of holding onto
staff during the national nursing crisis, and have continued to gain popularity ever since. This
crisis, due to the shortage of nurses, was the result of, the growing population across the USA after
World War II . . . and shortages in the

Development Of A Mobile App For Healthcare
2.Literature review This section describes the initial phase of using mobile technologies in
healthcare sector presenting the review of past and current apps and innovations. Also, this
describes the issues surrounding the development of a mobile app for healthcare. It also studies
the general questions faced from the exploration of health services in Nepal. The main aim of this
project is to develop a healthcare app for a mobile that best suits the general people and healthcare
providers in Nepal by further investigation based on its availability, accessibility and usability.

It not only started a mobile banking but has changed the lives of people. (TRANSFORMING
RURAL ECONOMIES THROUGH MOBILE BANKING IN NEPAL, 2013) (Shankar,
2010)(Regmi, 2015) (Dixit, 2013) So, it is time to create another initiative from this and launch a
mobile health service in Nepal that can reach people as the mobile banking has done. As such, this
raises more questions such as: 1.What is the condition of health service in Nepal? Is a mobile
health an answer to current issues? 2.Are the measures in place to launch such initiative? 3.Are the
health organisations aware of mobile health launched in other countries and ready to adopt them?
(Shankar, 2010) (Dixit, 2013) 2.1.Review of some of the mobile technologies used in Health sector
Healthcare professionals require being highly mobile because of the nature of their work, Working
in various locations such as ICUs, operation theatre, emergency departments etc. Hence
communication between healthcare professionals is very important. (Ammenwerth, et al., 2000)
(Bardram, 2005) (Banitas, et al., 2004), (Burdette Herchline, 2008) in the 1990s Healthcare
professionals used to have pagers for mobile communication until the mobile phones were widely
available (Burdette Herchline, 2008). The presence of mobile Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) in
the 1990s enabled healthcare professionals to organize their

  • 2. Analysis Of The Interlopers And The Machine That Won The War What do you prefer to read about? Maybe you like reading fiction or nonfiction, about heroes and villains, in past or future. Whatever your preferences, when most people read a book, they typically want to read about something relatable. People want to read about people that are like them. The Interlopers and The Machine That Won the War are both short stories full of interesting plot points that keep the readers hooked right until the last word. The Interlopers is about two men hunting each other in the night, until a twist happens. The Machine That Won the War is about three men revealing secrets about how the war was truly won. However, The Interlopers offers a more realistic plot and relatable characters than The Machine that Won the War. In The Interlopers, the short story starts out by taking us to a forest of mixed growth somewhere on the eastern spurs of the Carpathians (Saki, The Interlopers). The winter night is cold and stormy, with the wind blowing wildly and the animals uneasy, there was movement and unrest among the creatures that were wont to sleep through the dark hours (Saki, The Interlopers). The forests are very steep, and the game it kept for hunting was not that great, however the two characters and their family have quarreled over it for years. The narrow strip of precipitous woodland that lay on its outskirt was not remarkable for the game it harbored or the shooting it afforded. (Saki, The Interlopers). Hunting in these woods is the character ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Filial Piety In A Devoted Son Filial Piety in A Devoted Son A Devoted Son is the story of Rakesh, a young Indian man and the relationship with his family. He receives top honors at school, accolades from his American and Indian comrades, rises to the director of the local hospital, and becomes the richest doctor in his town. Critics argue this is Desai s comment about perfect Indian society, where adherence to filial piety, respecting one s parents, elders, and ancestors, is paramount (Crane). Rakesh s view of it leads to a breakdown in his relationship with his father. The father feels neglected by his family because they no longer respect his wishes. To Rakesh, belief in protecting his family from the ills of society, despite their temptation, proves his dedication to family (Desai). Filial piety in the abstract is a good standard to live by, but it could lead to destruction because adhering to it removes emotions. In the beginning, the relationship between Rakesh and his parents was an admirable one. Rakesh considers his parents feelings prior to making major decisions. From choosing a wife to becoming the primary caretaker to his father after his mother s death, Rakesh s sole desire seems to make his parents proud. Though the author does not dwell on the concept of filial piety regarding the mother, she shows her dedication to the family at the expense of her health. The mother s death marks a change in the family. The old father very quickly went to pieces, (Desai) and could not adjust ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Controversial Aspects of Decommissioning the Edwards Dam Controversial Aspects of Decommissioning the Edwards Dam In 1991 the Edwards Manufacturing Company, owner of the Edwards Dam on the Kennebec River in Augusta, ME, applied to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for a renewal of their license to operate a privately owned hydroelectric dam. Their application was denied; Edwards Manufacturing Company was required to come up with a plan for the enacting and financing of decommissioning the dam, as well as the restoration of the river. This was the first time in history that the federal government ordered a privately owned hydroelectric dam destroyed against the wishes of the owner. Numerous factors were involved which eventually led to this decision, namely the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are a number of environmental advantages that would occur upon decommissioning the Edwards Dam, most notably the rejuvenation of fish populations and the resulting increase in numbers of the osprey and bald eagles which feed upon them. Historically, the Kennebec River provided extensive top quality breeding grounds for all ten species of anadromous fish native to the northeastern U.S., a distinction that the Kennebec River alone could boast of. Anadromous fish make their home in the ocean but embark upon the tough journey upstream once a year to lay their eggs. Since the erection of the Edwards Dam in 1837, and the subsequent construction of more than a hundred dams upstream of the Edwards, these fish have been effectively blocked off from prime spawning grounds. The removal of the dam would open up fifteen miles of these grounds, seventeen miles total before encountering the next obstruction, making this the longest uninterrupted stretch of high quality breeding grounds north of the Hudson River (Howe,1998). The possibility of freeing such a considerable amount of breeding grounds had conservationists up in arms over the matter of renewing the operation license of the Edwards Manufacturing ... • 6. Willy Loman Is To Blame In this essay I will be writing about how much Willy Loman is to blame and is not to blame for his own actions. Willy Loman is a sixty three year old man who is depicted to be on the verge of a breakdown. Loman is a very delusional character who appears to live predominantly in the past, which is made clear from his tone and Miller s stage directions which demonstrate the use of expressionism. At the heart of everything Willy does, lay his children: Biff and Happy. All the same, every dream Willy ever has had has been rooted by the idea of the American Dream the idea of having the perfect and idealistic life where anyone can become successful as long as they are well liked. This idea is carried throughout the play and becomes personified... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The son a pioneer inventor and the slave of the industrialised world, Willy Loman exemplifies the victim of a changing capitalistic society. Arthur Miller eludes to this even in the character s name Loman, which pronounced correctly reveals the words Low man. Death of a Salesman engages the audiences conflicting attitudes toward this changing society: fear of the new and unfamiliar and to accommodate technology to cultural mythologies by subordinating it personally. This is evident in Howard s office, who is Willy s boss. In this scene Willy is going to ask to work in New York but instead of getting his office job, he is fired. Willy has now lost everything: his years of service, his pride and his salary because he is no longer as productive as he once was. This scene not only marks a tragic point in Willy s life it also gives proof of the changes that occur in a capitalist system. Willy s termination goes along with the out with the old and in with the new theory of such a system. Again, this leaves us thinking that as a tragic protagonist, Willy Loman is not culpable for his own actions; In fact, society is. If capitalist views had not become the culture for 1940 America then perhaps Willy would not be suffering like he is. He became a salesman because he was told and believed that if he was a salesman, who was well liked and therefore successful, then he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Explain The Barriers Of Effective Communication In Healthcare How Barriers to Effective Communication in Healthcare Can be Overcome This essay will begin by exploring what communication is and how it is defined. The components needed for communication to be effective and why effective communication is an important aspect of healthcare. It will then go on to discuss barriers to effective communication and how they can be overcome. Communication is the process by which information is exchanged between a sender and receiver, resulting in a common understanding. The word communication originates from the Latin word communis meaning common. Therefore without a common understanding being achieved from an information exchange, communication has not taken place. In order to know the start of Lunix one would have to travel back in time quite a bit. In this paper, I will research the start of Linux, the growth, and the future. When thinking of computers imagine they are as big as the tallest building or stadium. While the size of those computers posed problems, there was the one thing that made them worse: every computer had a different operating system. Software was customized to serve a certain purpose, and software didn t run from one system to another. This was painful for both the system administrators and users alike. Computers were so expensive back then, and so many sacrifices had to made even after the original big purchase just to get the users to understand how the parts worked together. Technology at that time was not so advanced, so this was the way of life for another decade or so. In 1969, the beginning of finding a solution to the software problem began. • 12. The Effects Of Social Media On Society Essay Social media has become prominent parts of life for many young people today. Most people engage with social media without stopping to think what the effects are on our lives, whether positive or negative. Are we as a society becoming more concerned with Facebook friends than we are with the people we interact with face to face in our daily lives? What will the longterm effects of today s social media use be? There are many positive aspects, but there are equally as many dangers that come with the use of sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google +, Tumblr, Instagram, gaming sites, and blogs. Social media has both negative and positive effects on society, it is up to the user to decide what impact they want to make. In order to make the right choices, we must dig in and research this topic thoroughly. Recent research has documented how technology, and social networking sites (SNS; e.g., Facebook, Instagram) in particular, have given rise to a growing obsession with impression management and self presentation online. Whether it s searching for the perfect Instagram photo filter or carefully crafting a humblebrag Facebook status about a recent publication, users frequently engage in selective self presentation strategies to portray an ideal self through social media (Chou Edge, 2012; Manago, Graham, Greenfield, Salimkhan, 2008). Barry always wished to succeed in business and become the American Dream of financial success. When he was nine years old, he worked as a telemarketer in a carpet cleaning business. Six years later, when he was only sixteen years old, he began his personal carpet business in his parent s garage in Los Angeles (ZZZZ Best Case Places SEC Procedures Under Scrutiny). • 15. Argumentative Essay On Self Reliance Everyone in life has at least one person who has strongly influenced them in one way or another, but what if that influence ended up being hurtful? In the essay Self Reliance by Ralph Emerson, Emerson gives his advice on how to live independently. Emerson says self reliance is to trust oneself and believe in oneself. He states that this is important because being self reliant leads to a successful path in life. By having individual ideas one will end up doing something she or he wants to do in life which causes success for that individual. He discusses how the only person one needs to listen to in life is oneself and that no other person should influence one s life. I believe there are people in this world that can have a negative influence on one s life, but also people that can have a positive influence. For example, in basketballmy positive influences (parents, teammates, and coaches) help me to succeed in a team sport. Emerson begins his article by talking about the importance of self reliance. He defines self reliance as thinking for oneself and not letting anyone else influence one in any way, shape, or form. As a human being this may be one of the most difficult tasks. Emerson explains that being self reliant can be difficult especially for adults because they are too worried about their reputations and how others will look upon them. Emerson also says, Trust thyself (2). Emerson believes that one should go with his or her gut in everything she or he does. Even if what she or he wants to do goes against the thoughts of others she or he still needs to pursue his or her dreams. The last thing Emerson wants people to do is be embarrassed of what others will think of themselves. People need to throw away others thoughts and opinions and follow one s own. Emerson also believes that one can be great through being self reliant. He says, To be great is to be misunderstood (7). This tells one that if others seem to be judging or confused on what one is doing with his or her life, one should ignore the others, and continue to follow what she or he believes. Emerson explains that if one is misunderstood by others that she or he is on the path to success. For example, when Jesus followers were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Immediately after Rick has received the film s first star close up, Casablanca yields its first shot from the point of view of a single individual at nine minutes into the film when Rick observes the German s attempt to enter. For most of the remainder of the film, Rick s point of view is privileged, and his face and body are centered. This is especially true when he is in the company of Victor Laszlo, who is regularly consigned to the margins of the frame throughout the sequence when Rick first encounters Ilsa and her husband in the cafe. All of this seems natural because the film has so carefully constructed the viewer as a secret sharer in Rick s vision. The innumerable choices that are made in the production of each shot in Casablanca are concealed by our acceptance of Rick as our surrogate. Although few would find reason to object, the film chooses to deprive Laszlo of a flashback, not to mention an As Time Goes Byto unite him with Ilsa. Ray points out that this concealing of the necessity for choice also governs the thematic paradigm in Casablanca. The film invites the audience to identify with Rick rather than Laszlo even though official American wartime sentiments are consistently voiced by Laszlo. Rick regularly insists upon unmediated self interest, I stick my neck out for nobody , I m the only cause I m interested in , a position that Ferrari explicitly identifies with a discredited American tradition: My dear Rick, when will you realize ... On the other hand, in Blue Winds Dancing, the native also undergoes an internal conflict; the native feels alone and lost in the White world. He feels like an outsider with no place in the white world that he desperately wants to accept him. The native compares himself to a hobo because they both are outsiders because they cherish different things from a typical white man. Additionally, the native in the story does not have a name to symbolize that his experience is very similar to many other natives who want to be apart of the white world. Overall, the native is having an Identity crisis because he does not know whether to acculturate and become like every other white man or go back to the blanket because it is familiar to him. He longs for home because he does not agree with the white man s customs of getting a hill and wanting a mountain . • 19. The Wilderness And Environment In Ancient Epics The significance of the wilderness and environment in the three ancient texts, the Ramayana, the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Odyssey is indisputable. It goes beyond just being the backdrop for the action in the epics and instead, influences the action in some way. For this very reason, the environment becomes as important as the central characters in the epics. The Ramayana s Cedar forestwas a den of mystical creatures, sages and demons that created challenges for the hero. It occasionally altered the character s behaviors and tested their will to follow their dharma, which is an individual s duty fulfilled by observance of custom or law
( dharma ). In the Epic of Gilgamesh, the wilderness serves as a frightening force for the hero to tame and civilize, resulting in it being one of the themes carried out through the narrative. The sea in the Odysseyhurled obstacles at the hero and his men that they had to fight through on their journey back home and was representative of the Ancient Greeks way of living under the influence of the gods. These environments, no matter how distant in cultural context, all have a significant effect on their respective characters and story lines. In other countries, women often transfer to another country to marry, in hopes of achieving that dream of a content family. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. Clinicians usually become aware of a person s kleptomania only when the individual is in treatment for some other psychological problem such as an anxiety disorder, psychoactive substance abuse, eating disorder, or mood disorder (Bradford Balmaceda, 1983; McElroy et al., 1991). The fact that most kleptomaniacs seen in a clinical context also suffer from another psychological disorder raises some interesting questions. Is it possible that kleptomanic behavior is a symptom of some other disorder, possibly biologically caused? With this possibility in mind, some researchers have speculated that a serotonin deficiency might underlie kleptomania, an idea that is supported by the fact that the medication fluoxetine (Prozac), which increases serotonin in the nervous system, has been found to reduce kleptomanic behavior (McElroy et al., 1991). In addition to pharmacological interventions, behavioral treatments are also used to help individuals control their urge to steal. In covert sensitization, the client is insstructed to conjure up aversive images during the act of stealing (Glover, 1985). For example, a kleptomaniac may be instructed to conjure up disgusting images, such as vomit, when the compulsion to steal is emerging. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This includes ideologies such as motion, God, gravity, solar radiation, and our physical environment as whole. According to Immanuel Kant, the sensible world includes anything that can become known to humans. The sensible world includes things such as time and space. Italian Unification Dbq Essay In order to restore France after the Napoleonic Era, the Quadruple Alliance, Russia, Prussia, Austria, and Great Britain, held a meeting called the Congress of Vienna in order to establish peace between countries. The four countries decided that creating borders within Europe and receiving compensation in the form of territory would be an effective reminder of the pain France had caused during its revolution. After decades of dealing with borders placed by the Quadruple Alliance, the inhabitants of Italy wanted a more unified peninsula. Although many leaders of Europeproposed ideas for fixing this problem, many of them such as Cavour and Napoleon III had ulterior motives. The unification of Italy took such a long time because its politicians were not being honest about what they actually wanted. One of the most influential political figures in Europe during this time was Count Camillo Benso di Cavour, a politician from Piedmont Sardinia who had very small and realistic goals for Italy (Hearder 40). One such legislative measure is the carbon tax law passed in Parliament in July 2012 through Acts such as the Clean Energy Act. Using a fixed taxation price of $A23 per tonne which will increase by 2.5% per annum, the carbon tax law applies to the company operations and facilities of Australia s top 500 polluters which exceed the annual direct emissions limit (Foran, 2011; Guglyuvatyy, 2012). These high polluting industries range from electrical power plants to the mining sector. The carbon tax law will subsequently transit into a cap and trade ETS managed by the Climate Change Authority in 2015. Also known as the Carbon Pricing Mechanism, this statutory institution will supervise carbon prices on an auction market, making the prices of greenhouse gases flexible (Guglyuvatyy, 2012; Adams, 2014). The aim of the ETS is to create economic incentives to entice industries to take environmentally friendly measures without negatively affecting the national job market and economic growth (AuGov, 2012; Adams, 2014). It is obvious just how much hypocrisy was taking place when we see Jefferson comments regarding the National Bank, in which he said, To take a single step beyond the boundaries specially drawn around powers of Congress is to take possession of a boundless field of power, no longer susceptible of any decision. By using the necessary and proper clause, Jefferson managed to avoid having to go through Congress to get approval, and also managed to avoid the state governments, just as Hamilton did. This was the exact opposite of what a typical Republican would do, as they believed that the states should have much more power than the federal government. Given that he appears to go against many of the Republican main ideals, he was considered by several as a neo Federalist. However, even amongst all of this, it is still clear that he didn t throw away his political ideals as many said he did, which can be seen in the ways that he did all of this to help the people who he was ... • 42. Separation Of Concrete Essay 3. COMPOSITION OF CONCRETE Cement and sand ready to be mixed. There are many types of concrete available, created by varying the proportions of the main ingredients below. The mix design depends on the type of structure being built, how the concrete will be mixed and delivered, and how it will be placed to form this structure. Cement Portland cement is the most common type of cement in general usage. It is a basic ingredient of concrete, mortar, and plaster. English engineer Joseph Aspdin patented Portland cement in 1824; it was named because of its similarity in colour to Portland limestone, quarried from the English Isle of Portland and used extensively in London architecture. It consists of a mixture of oxides of calcium, silicon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it is weak in tension as the cement holding the aggregate in place can crack, allowing the structure to fail. Reinforced concrete solves these problems by adding either meta reinforcing bars, steel fibers, glass fiber, or plastic fiber to carry tensile loads. Chemical admixtures Chemical admixtures are materials in the form of powder or fluids that are added to the concrete to give it certain characteristics not obtainable with plain concrete mixes. In normal use, admixture dosages are less than 5% by mass of cement, and are added to the concrete at the time of batching /mixing. The most common types of admixtures are: Accelerators speed up the hydration (hardening) of the concrete. Typical materials used are CaCl2 and NaCl. However use of Chlorides may cause corrosion in steel reinforcing and is prohibited in some countries. Acrylic retarders slow the hydration of concrete, and are used in large or difficult pours where partial setting before the pour is complete is undesirable. A typical retarder is table sugar, or sucrose ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Diary Of Kaamet Analysis I was born on the month of Renwet, during the Fourth of Peret. My father used to tell me stories of how both our moons fell on that day, an omen, an indication of prosperity and future success to come. I never believed him, for I had never seen the moons fall. The planet of Kaamet has two moons; the larger one named Khonsu, the smaller one named Iah. It is said that once every 500 years, these moons fall, and a new member of the royal family is born. The sky turns a deep, blood red, with streaks of indigo and violet painting the sky. A vendetta of colour: raging, violent, yet beautiful. The birthing ceremony was nearly perfect. The rites were performed by the highest regarded priestesses of the kingdom, their incantations blending into... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This man, as I would later find out, was my uncle Asim Khalfani, king of the Western kingdom. A horn was blown, announcing his arrival, even though his presence seemed to fill up the entire room. Asim strode over to where the king and queen were sitting. Brother , he exclaimed. It s nice seeing you again! Father s face lit up at his brother s greeting. Yes Asim , he said, smiling. It has been quite a while. But the festivities have started, and you are late! Come meet your niece. Asim leaned over my cradle and kissed my forehead. He mumbled a prayer, blessing me, a tradition for this occasion. It was at this moment that I knew that things would never be the same. As Asim finished reciting the prayer, he tapped my forehead 3 times. Leaning in close, Asim pressed his lips to my year and uttered three words that would change the course of Kaametian history: I. The character s traits are told by the narrator through the eyes of the main character. It is obvious that Miss Brill is a very complex, intricate character. Digging deeper into her thoughts allows the central theme of distorted reality come to light. Looking at a day in the life of Miss Brill reveals some of her prominent character traits of being lonely, habitual, and distorted. One of Miss Brill s main character traits is her sense of loneliness. She tries to cope with this feeling by visiting the park every Sunday to people watch. By listening and watching the people around her, she is able to connect herself to them in an attempt to escape her unappealing, anticlimactic life. Through eavesdropping on other people s conversations she is sitting in other people s lives for just a minute (219). She wants to imagine herself included, important, and a part of a family. What is interesting is the fact that Miss Brill doesn t make an effort to engage in conversation with any of the other characters. She solely observes her surroundings and makes judgements. She thinks of the other people as funny...odd, silent, nearly all old...as though they d just come from dark little rooms (220). Rather than seeing herself as one of them, she creates an ... • 45. Fatigue Contributed And A Serious Medication Error Fatigue contributed to a serious medication error in Wisconsin. After working a 16 hour shift, a labor/delivery nurse came in the next morning to work another shift. Because she d had only a few hours off between shifts, she d arranged to sleep at the hospital. Late in the morning of the second day, she admitted a young patient. The physician had ordered an antibiotic to be given right away. The nursepicked up what she thought was the antibiotic and hung it without scanning the patient or the medication. Tragically, the drug she actually gave wasn t the antibiotic but bupivacaine fentanyl, an epidural anesthetic. The patient died within an hour. Initially, the nurse was charged with felony neglect of a patient causing great bodily harm, but pled guilty to the misdemeanor of dispensing and illegally obtaining a prescription. Her nursing license was suspended for 9 months and she was barred from working in an obstetric or critical care area or working any shift longer than 12 hours (American Nurse Today 25). For the past 15 years many people have devoted their time and effort into the great debate centered around eight versus 12 hour nursing shifts. Twelve hour shifts date back to the 1970s when they were used as a means of holding onto staff during the national nursing crisis, and have continued to gain popularity ever since. This crisis, due to the shortage of nurses, was the result of, the growing population across the USA after World War II . . . and shortages in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
