Benin Art
To answer the questions in Primary source assignment 4, I will look at the Benin plaque, the oba with
Europeans, and compare and contrast it to art encountered in primary source assignment 2. I will then
consider what role isolationism played in relationships between Portugal and communities in the East
and West African coasts. Finally, I will look to answer the question on who discovered whom, and
conclude by looking at the long term effects of Portuguese contact with Africa. When taken out of its
specific region, and time period, what can the Benin plaque the oba with Europeans tell us about its
people and culture? An effort to impress the King of Benin was a likely motivation for the production
of this work of art. His central placement and diminutive imprint of the Europeans was likely intended
to stroke his ego. This observation is supported by Neil MacGregor s podcast where he observes that

West African reception of Portuguese was generally good, Portuguese sailors and traders accounts of
fair treatment are a testament to this view. In contrast, reception in East Africa was less hospitable, and
in many instances, hostile. What could have been the course of this? I would offer Isolation is a likely
cause. East Africa was less isolated. Contact with the outside world had made the region suspicious of
strangers, especially those who didn t share a similar culture and religion. Trade with partners in the
Indian Ocean had made the region wealthy, negating the need to find new trading partners, which
further complicated the outreach efforts made by the Portuguese. In contrast, Vasco Da Gama found
communities West African that had made no direct international trading partners or alliances. Isolation
allowed their curiosity towards the new visitors to overcame caution, which led to trade, co operation

Analysing the Financial Performance of Domestic Dog Homes
In this part of my report, I will explain in depth how these ratios are used to monitor the financial state
of Domestic Dogs Homes. I will also assess the company s performance generally.
Part 3: Analysing the financial performance of Domestic Dog Homes
Profitability ratios
Gross Profit Margin:
This ratio is used to assess a company s financial performance by revealing the money left over from
the revenues. Gross Profit Margin also serves as the source for paying additional expenses and future
savings.
According to Domestic Dog Homes profit and loss account, it has obtained a reasonably high
percentage of gross profit which means that the company is doing well and will be able to control the
costs of its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, this ratio helps a business to get rid of bad debts. According to the balance sheet of Domestic
Dog Homes, the debtors have 9 days to pay back to the company which is good as the business would
be able ton get its money back quicker and make the necessary changes to get rid of bad debts.
Conclusion: Overall it seems that Domestic Dog Homes is financially in an unstable state as it is either
performing reasonably well in order to survive or it is not doing so well is particular areas, e.g. current
ratio and asset turnover.
Part 4: the advantages and limitations of using Ratios
There are several advantages and disadvantages of using ratios to assess and monitor the financial
state of Domestic Dog Homes and they are: The ratios forecast the future: They indicate whether
Domestic Dog Homes will be able to pay its debts and whether it will be able to survive. For instance
the current ratio gives the company an insight of whether it will have enough money to pay back its
debts and whether it will have to gain more money in order to cover the costs of its expenses as well
as its debts. However the disadvantage of this is that these ratios focuses on specific areas of the
company s financial state and does not look at the overall performance hence it is the duty of
Domestic Dog Homes to check whether it is progressing overall. Strengths and weaknesses: The ratios
also point out the strengths and weaknesses of a

Servant Leadership Summary
According to Greenleaf (1970), servant leadership is based on the premise that leaders who are best
able to motivate followers are those who focus least on satisfying their own personal needs and most
on prioritizing the fulfillment of the followers needs (as cited in Linden, Wayne, Liao, Meuser, 2014).
Organizational culture is contingent on the leader s style and qualities, and how he is received by his
employees. A manager that leads by servant leadership encourages an environment based significantly
on trust, but also on collaboration and team building. Under servant leadership, a leader conducts
institutional research and is realistic about the goals put in place. In the case study written by Kirby,

I had the opportunity to serve on a hiring committee for a large financial firm. The CEO, when he had
the opportunity to mingle with his employees, was personable, and made it a point to know something
specific about each employee during these rare encounters. Being a larger firm, the CEO used
newsletters, emails, and various other tele communications as the only methods to correspond with his
employees. He reasoned that some outreach was better than none, and the employees would
instinctively know he cares; to him, this was the formula to a successful business and great innovation.
The CEO was convinced he managed a networked driven culture. On the surface, his messages were
pleasant and motivating, and when asked, he believed he encouraged innovation and positioned
employees for success. However, my committee surveyed this organization as a way to assist the CEO
with employee retention. The survey was rather unpredictable; these employees were displeased with
leadership. Similar to the case study referenced above, the CEO of this financial firm, like the radio
station owner, assumed good intent, but was oblivious to his own organization s

Historic Value Of The Oregon Historical District
The Oregon Historical District is a twelve city block area in Dayton, Ohio that is registered with the
National Register of Historic Places. This reasonably small area has both commercial and residential
land uses. Though mixed use space, commercial and residential, is seen as a modern phenomenon, this
area of land is quite old for an American city with the original plat recording in 1829. However, the
homes in the area developed over a period of 100 years which allowed for them to development with
different architectural features with the most common being Classic Revival. This different
architectural development could also be seen throughout the business district. Intriguing ideas held
within the historic value of the Oregon Historical District are the ideas of preservation and protection.
Instead of requiring its residents to rehabilitate the homes to original status the requirements are that
the home look authentic and have the appeal of authenticity. The aesthetic nature of the homes should
be less museum like and more home like with the intention of preserving the architectural character of
the past. In 1975, the Oregon Historical District ratified a Constitution with the most recent
amendment in 2014. This Constitution requires that residents that live within the twelve block radius
of the district be part of the Oregon District Historic Society. These residents are known as members
and pay a yearly membership fee. There is a board of trustees that consists of nine

What is more, teen couples bite each other regularly to show affection, sometimes so hard they draw
blood and what is even more bizarre: some of them cut their skin so they can taste one another s
blood. According to doctors biting can lead to diseases. Fifteen percent of bites from humans can
become infected; moreover, biting can spread sometimes blood borne diseases like HIV, hepatitis or
syphilis. Let s see an example from the first part of Twilight Saga, because it has been already
mentioned. In the first part of the series, Bella says, About three things I was absolutely positive. First,
Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him and I didn t know how potent that part might
be that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.
(Meyer,195) It sounds as if teenagers are influenced to fall in love with something like Satan. So it is
enough if the man is handsome, it doesn t matter if he is life threatening. In the end, just like in fairy
tales, everything is going to be alright and they will live happily ever after. The only problem is that in
real life it doesn t work. Moreover, one of the most famous quotes from New Moon, the film
interpretation of the second part is Death is peaceful....easy....life is harder... . An impressionable
young mind may easily define this that it s easier to commit suicide than to manage with the troubles.

Gst Reform Case Study
The Grattan Institute s proposal to broaden the base and increase the rate of the goods and services tax
(GST) is rooted in principles of economic rationalism that fail to sufficiently consider political and
pragmatic concerns. Comprehending the manner in which policy networks in Australia have evolved
in recent decades is crucial towards placing the Grattan Institute s role into context as the
identification of key actors and political groups in this debate otherwise would be opaque. Issues of
constitutionality and political controversy naturally arise when considering this far reaching reform
due to pressures that the GST impose on the very essence of federalism and power in Australia. The
advantages of reforming the GST are largely derived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The heuristic and iterative approach of the policy cycle suggests that proposals to amend the GST
appear to be languishing during its early phases. Of the eight distinct segments that comprise the
policy cycle, it seems that the government has so far only progressed through the first four: the
identification of the issue, policy analysis, policy instruments, and consultation. The government has
certainly advanced to at least the second stage of the policy cycle as the Department of the Treasury
(2016, p. 1) has publicly released economic modelling asserting [a] tax mix switch involving income
tax cuts and increasing the GST to 15 per cent would deliver negligible GDP gains. Whilst it is
debateable as to whether the government can be considered as having entered the consultation phase,
the presence of numerous public comments on GST reform by Liberal Party Members of Parliament
indicates that the party room has likely discussed the topic in at least a peripheral sense. However, the
policy cycle does possess serious limitations that detract from its ability to serve as an effective prism
through which to judge government movement on the GST. A powerful criticism of the cycle is that it
ignores the role that non ministerial, non major party parliamentarians play in shaping the course of
public policy,

My First Lesson On The Battle Of Lexington And Concord
This week I only attended three days for block teaching. Monday was Columbus Day so the school
was closed and everyone had the day off. Friday I did not attend because it was fall break for WIU so I
decided to go home for the weekend. On Tuesday the students worked on Cornell notes for several
headings in their textbook. Then on Wednesday I taught my first lesson on the battles of Lexington
and Concord. The students analyzed two primary source documents then as a class we discussed their
similarities and differences. The lesson went well despite the fact that two thirds of the class was
missing due to state testing. The fact that majority of the class made me worried for the lesson I
prepared for the following day because the two lessons were designed to match up. However, I was
pleasantly surprised that Thursday s lesson went as smoothly as it did. The students stayed on task and
were focused so I did not have really any issues with classroom management. Since this week was
short and I taught two out of the three days I was present my teacher didn t have much involvement
with his class. On Thursday when one student was getting a big rowdy before class due to an
argument my mentor pulled him into the hallway to address the situation. I believe my best classroom
management skills were displayed during my Wednesday lesson. Due to majority of the class being
missing I got the vibe that the students who were present thought of it as a free day. I had one student

Gold Rush In California
Thomas Fuller once said we never know the worth of water till the well is dry (Fuller). As a species
we need water to cook, clean, and most importantly live. With water being a natural resource overuse
and misuses of it can cause its supply to rapidly dwindle down, and that s exactly what s happening in
California right now. California s water comes a married of places such as aquifers, groundwater,
surface water, rivers, reservoirs, dams and irrigation systems where 80% of that water goes towards
agriculture and 20% to urban/residential use. California s water supply is so substandard that the state

Issues In The Transgender Community
Trans Pandemic The transgender community has been facing much more ridicule than society realizes
in our generation, we have been trying to change and accept more and more things. Yet I never
realized how much and how little improvement has happened in the past years. While watching The
Daily Show, one of my favorite television shows, I heard about the problems I never really have
thought about before. Actually realizing all the issues within the transgender community really
surprised me. One major problem is the Bathroom Bill, a bill some people are trying to get passed.

feeling comfortable in your own body. You wear sweatpants, he wears a dress. Move on. I loved the
way the daily show tried to shine some light on the transgender community all while pointing out how
ridiculously people are reacting to transgender people living the way they were meant to. Making light
of these situations is really helpful in times like this. Even within harsh circumstances, every person of
every gender (and sex) deserve a laugh. The bathroom bill is a bill that shines light on the issues

Mutiny In Romeo And Juliet
Unfamiliar Word Educated Guess Dictionary Definition Piteous This word s prefix is similar to pity.
Therefore it should logically mean the two families will reunite with pity intertwined in their hearts
and endeavor to start a new beginning with peace. Using the Oxford dictionary they describe piteous
as, deserving or arousing pity. I am proud of myself for using the technique of observing the prefix
and therefore understanding the meaning of the word. Civil In this particular sentence Shakespeare
uses irony to discuss two corrupt views who wholeheartedly believe their perspective is civilized not
comprehending that numerous deaths lay on their shoulders. Similar to my analyzation this word s
true intention describes citizens who (ironically) are civilized, cultured and polite with the other social
classes. Dignity A person who has overcome adversities and is worthy to be elevated in the social
hierarchy, gaining both respect, equality, and self importance. In the definition for words in Romeo
and Juliet, dignity is a word which describes a social position in the overall hierarchy. It is truly
astounding that a word through the ages can transform into a different meaning. Mutiny When one
perspective uses someone as a scapegoat which has been caused by jealously and unforgiven grudges.

The Arab Civil War And The Destruction Of Ancient Objects...
Since the early twenty first century and even before, museums in the Middle East have had to learn to
cope with conflict. Syria is the best example of a country with many cultural heritage sites and
museums that are in danger due to conflict. The onset of the Syrian Civil War and the destruction of
ancient objects and cultural heritage sites by ISIS have been the most recent manifestation of this. As a
result of the Syrian Civil War and ISIS takeover, sites like Palmyra and the Aleppo historic city center
have been heavily damaged ( The Race to Save Syria s Archaeological Treasures. 2016). Palmyra has
stood for thousands of years, as prominent commercial site in ancient times and as a symbol Syrian

ISIS s motivations revolve around looting and smuggling of ancient artifacts for funding (al Frieh
2016), religious cleansing for the restoration of true Islam, a chance to make news headlines
worldwide to spread fear and intimidation of local populations (Swicord 2016). The dangers of war
have driven away many people who could protect these cultural heritage sites and the objects within
them, and now they are helpless in the face of destruction in conflict and being smuggled for profit.
Palmyra was a victim of this when ISIS captured the city in May of 2015 and controlled it for about
one year. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with remains nearly 2000 years old ( ISIL
captures strategic Syrian city of Palmyra. 2015). During its occupation, the city faced several kinds of
destruction at the hands of its captors. The city had already been damaged from the fighting and
shelling that resulted in its capture. The city s Temple of Ba al was severely damaged by mortar fire.
ISIS also carried out many deliberate acts of violence against the objects and architecture. In the
months following their victory, ISIS militants destroyed the Temple of Ba al s primary building and
other structures, like the nearby Temple of Baalshamin and the decorative arches built by the Romans
in the second century CE. They destroyed and defaced these larger like architecture and sculptures

Socialization Of Male And Female Roles
Socialization is defined as the process by which people acquire behaviors and beliefs of their social

the cultural standard is what outlines the socialization of male and female roles is different. For
example, in a narrow understanding that girls are supposed to hold jobs that only cater to feminine
jobs like housewife or nursing. However, with a broad understanding that girls can do whatever job
they want like firefighter or police officer. In every society, there is a breakdown between a broad

Boys are dressed in appropriate color coordinated outfits and so are girls with different bright and

From age three to eight is early childhood, and from nine to eleven is middle childhood age and from

it becomes all about making friends get as many friends as you can, age 8 to 10 this is when
personality traits become more noticeable both gender display the beginning stages of defiance. Then
age 11 to 12 everything is about how emotionally they feel, at this point some girls and boys may

their the Nahuatl language, while the Mayans spoke Hieroglyphics (no exact name). Two civilizations
both used terrace farming and human labor for agriculture. Wars between towns, cities, and empires

Empires. As I mentioned earlier in this paragraph, they all lived in a swampy land. Of course, there
must have been some detriments, but they used their swampy lands as an advantage in agriculture!
Also, two empires used human labor when they were farming. As we learned, Aztecs transported food
and farmed using humans, same with the Mayans. Plus, they used terrace farming as their technique.
Terrace farming, aka terracing , is a type of farming using steps of a mountain or a hill. Believe it or

Reflection Paper On Sonography
Have you ever imagined an experience would turn out a certain way, only to have it completely
surprise you? That is exactly what happened to me when I arrived at Genesis Hospital for my
observation in imaging with a sonographer. While I was expecting a certain scenario for that
experience, I was soon brought to the realization you truly cannot predict any situation you have never
encountered before. I was very excited to have the opportunity to observe the career I am planning on
having; however, that excitement turned into surprise as I gained a valuable experience.
After being informed our next paper due would be based on an observation, I started making calls to
hospitals in the area I live. I was happy to receive a call back from one of them stating I would be
allowed to observe an ultrasound technician. I was very excited as I thought it was fantastic I would
have the opportunity to observe a professional in the field I will be majoring in. The evening before
my observation I was anxious, imagining what I was going to experience the following day. Excited, I
tried my best to sleep while anticipating what I was going to encounter the next afternoon.
Dressed in scrubs and excited to begin, I arrived at the hospital around noon. With an eager smile
pasted on my face, I informed the receptionist in the imaging department that I was there for a
scheduled observation. Happy to assist me, she asked me to follow her to one of the occupied rooms.

real sense of it was virtually nonexistent. Nigeria was rated as one of the countries with the highest
incidence of fake counterfeit drug and other substandard regulated products. Consequently made in
Nigeria drugs were officially unaccepted in other West African countries with strong regulations e.g.
Ghana, Serria Leone etc. Many multinational drug companies left Nigeria in the 80 s and 90 s out of

War Series By George Bellows Essay
George Bellows War Series brought light to the Rape of Belgium, which involved the torture and mass
slaughtering of Belgian citizens during WWI, while revamping his own lost sense of passionate and
horrifically realistic subject matter and style. Bellows talent for painting this type of subject matter
involving sensitive imagery made him the perfect candidate to portray the tragedies in Belgium
happening during the time period. During WWI, German soldiers were assaulting Belgian citizens in
what is now known as the Rape of Belgium. Belgian civilians were being tortured and slaughtered by
Germans, and only a small portion of the rest of the world knew about it. Bellows War Series hoped to
raise awareness of this horrific act and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His pieces showed the mass killings that took place by the hand of German soldiers as well. These
horrific scenes were demonstrated in both The German s Arrive and Massacre at Dinant. The German
s Arrive focused on German soldiers throttling a woman, while Belgian villages burned in the distance
(Brock, 2012, p. 255). In a similar manner, Massacre at Dinant describes the killing of more than six
hundred townspeople, including women and children (Brock, 2012, p. 255). These paintings showed
that the German s had no mercy towards any Belgian native, not even the women and children that

Effects Of Wars Leave On Business
Executive Summary This research paper will provide an analysis and evaluation of the effects that
wars leave on business. Examples of these include embassies that prohibit their citizens to visit those
countries in war. If these countries at war base their economy in tourism this will result them to not be
economically stable since there is a ban in visiting their countries. Since there is no tourism and no
business to survive on, the citizens of these countries may resort to drug business to feed themselves.
Wars can impact economic effects and make investors seek investments in other countries. This
substantially can result in these countries to not have no supply and demand in the economic growth.
This substantially affects the nations economy. However, some of the effects of war may not be bad
sometimes they create revenue for the country s income. This research paper will analyze these
effects. An excessive military spending can displace the economy instead of focusing in other areas to

A more obvious qualifier is when the sentence already begins with words which make it questionable.
This may be incorrect, but.... is an example. ( Lindsey, 1994,p72) Usage of Tag Questions Second, tag
questions are typically used by women which means that after making a statement, there follows a
question relating to that statement, I enjoyed the concert, didn t you? or It is a beautiful day, isn t it?
As less assertive than declaratory statements, tag questions assume that women must ask permission
for their feelings, likes, or dislikes. Use of qualifiers and tag questions like ( I guess this is correct, don
t you?) may suggest that women are uncertain, tentative, or equivocal in what they are saying. They
are also used as a defense against potential criticism. ( Lindsey, 1994,p72) Usage of Intensifiers
Another form of the female register is the use of intensifiers which Robin Lakoff (1975) refers to as
empty adjectives or adverbs. Some of these could be contained in a word list which is distinctively

the intensifiers when compared to men. Even though men too use intensifiers in their

Studying Abroad At Regent s University
Being immersed in a completely different atmosphere or culture can be intimidating when you are in a
foreign country. While studying abroad in London, I have experienced small effects of culture shock
myself. Culture shock occurs when one is trying to adjust to a new culture that person is unfamiliar
with. I interviewed a girl named Lisa who is studying abroad at Regent s University this semester and
is originally from Russia. Throughout this paper I will be sharing her personal experiences on her
cultural adaption between leaving her life from home and coming to study in England. When choosing
Lisa to interview for this essay, I thought she would be an excellent candidate. Not only because she
was from Russia, but the ties her and I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I feel that people from the UK are super polite and super elegant at the same time. Always wonder on
how they manage to keep up with this because they speak differently than we do in Russia. They are
also much friendlier and louder too, which was hard to get use too when coming here, she stated. I felt
the total opposite, I felt that most British people are more reserved and kept to themselves. When
Americans are over the top nice and loud. She always began to talk about the study of kinesics of
Londoners. She states, that foreigners seem to smile a lot more here. In Russia when you smile it
means that they actually like you. In the UK it means you re being friendly. It seems a lot like a lot of
the body language here is overly nice here. It is super challenging to understand if they actually like
me or if they just being nice, she states. She made it clear throughout the interview on how overall,
London is much more friendlier and louder than her culture back at home. When studying, Lisa has
openly talked about the feeling of culture shock while being a month into her studies here. However,
she states, it was not too difficult for me to get adjusted into the different cultures here because I am
already used to foreign students being at my university, so I felt right at home. When it comes to
communicating back and forward with foreigners, like when I want to make a joke or be funny and I

Apologetics Definition
Apologetics In definition, Apologetics is to argue, or better said, justify your beliefs. Typically, it
follows up with religious topics that people, for whatever reason, feel the need to scuffle over what
they believe to be right or wrong. As we all know, religion has been the main topic in most fights for
eons and has yet to even falter over time. From observations, I ve noticed that individuals tend to get
rather heated over the subject, and have even been known to cause harm to one another if so inclined
to do so. Personally, I don t believe Apologetics is necessary under most circumstances. If one feels so
powerless in their faith to have to fight about it, they probably shouldn t bother having one at all. This
comes to the main question

I also saw a lot of flags, which inspired me to draw the flag of Ghana and digitally display it, so I went
back to the drawing board. After I went out to the main exhibit, I stood at the wall waiting for my leaf.
I decided to look around the rest of the 270 degree wall for my leaf. After five minutes of waiting,
another visitor stood beside me searching for her leaf as well. After 10 minutes passed, I decided to
accept that my leaf was not coming anytime soon and it was the last part of the exhibit that I had to
experience anyway. I could tell there were still bugs in the system, so I thanked the guides and headed
back to the L Enfant metro station to go home. I initially planned on going twice that week, but I think
I saw everything I need to see the first time.
On my way back home I thought, maybe this is just a playground for Instagram and snapchat posts.
When I first arrived, my tour guide highly advised that I take photos and and post them with
Artechouse tagged. On Instagram, Artechouse has close to 6,000 photos tagged Artechouse. This is
not including Twitter posts or variations of tags Artechouse hashtags on Instagram. Maybe they aren t
as prioritized on the content as they are attracting people to experience something new. This is
interesting because I first heard about the art installation through Snapchat and Instagram posts rather
than traditional media or word of mouth. Even though the founders understand the excitement on
social media for Artechouse, they

Competent To Counsel
Chapter eight of Competent to Counsel by Jay E. Adams, presents a powerful concept regarding the
importance of being disciplined as a Christian (or walking a disciplined life); however, after further
reading it seems there are two kinds of discipline. One is a noun, it seems; it is the discipline from the
Lord that we receive from him, his training, correction, reproof. The other is the self imposed
discipline of the Christian s daily walk; it is the act of having controlled behavior and choosing to
obey his commandments, so it is then more of an adjective to describe who or what we are. The
purpose of the Lord s discipline, as stated in Hebrews 10:10, is to make us holy and to reflect his
holiness. This holiness comes from enduring suffering

The Value Of Enterprise And Trade
Today s economy was founded upon the fundamentals of capitalism and continues to find its strength
in the presence of freedom of enterprise and trade. Regulation and taxes are vital in order to support
fairness amongst businesses and to provide funds for the government to develop and maintain the
country s infrastructure. Most companies distribute some of the company s accumulated profits, so
that is why it is important to characterize the distribution under whether it is deductible or not. As
there are many different types of distributions, it is necessary for the tax paying entity to understand
the distribution so that each type can be deducted appropriately. Before we can get into what type of

The Human Of Human Trafficking Essay
Although slavery was abolished in 1865, the practice of it is still very alive today. Human trafficking,
a form of modern slavery, is the buying and selling of people, whether it s for forced labor or
commercial sex. Every year, thousands of adults and children, especially girls, are forced into the
endless trafficking ring. The International Labour Organization estimates that there are 20.9 million
victims of human trafficking globally ( The Facts ). The human trafficking industry is a worldwide
network that is worth an estimated 150 billion dollars ( The Facts ). Millions of stories about victims
experiences can be found and read. Many of these victims are sucked into the world of human
trafficking because they are immigrants trying to escape to the U.S. and have debts to pay off once
they get there. Trafficking happens everywhere, from big city shopping centers, to small town
massage parlors. People are being captured, sold and transported across the world via various forms of
transportation at all times. With updated technology, it becomes easier and easier to buy and sell these
slaves and with this, the chances of being caught and punished is almost nothing. Many people think
slavery is dead; however, human trafficking is still alive and it needs to be stopped because many
people are being forced into involuntary sex and labor. Normally, human trafficking can be identified
as one of two different kinds of trafficking. The two kinds of trafficking are known as

Introduction Disasters have become an inevitable part of businesses and organizations as well. They
not only have a major effect on business and organizational continuity; they also result to an overhaul
in organizational operational mechanisms (Awasthy, 2009). It is for this reason that many
organizations and business resort to preparing business continuity plans and disaster recovery plans
that will facilitate better disaster management in future. Effective disaster recovery plans are important

cyclic planning process and document that will foster innovation and technology and that will ensure
that the disaster recovery process is participatory, up to date and timely to meet the objectives of Bain
Company.
Assessment of security Security measures to be input into the firm to boost disaster recovery process
include establishing firm registry in bomb proof vaults that will shield the firm s documents and data
from disasters such as terrorist attacks. Such will ensure that the records of the firm are not tampered
with and as such the company is able to run business without fundamental data loss (Menken and
Blokdjik, 2010). The company can also ensure the installment of fire extinguishers and fire exit doors
within the firm s premises to create better channels of evacuation during fire outbreaks. In addition,
smoke detectors and alarms should also be installed to signify and create warnings in case of such.
Establishing access codes to data registries is another security measure that the firm can uphold. This
will ensure that confidential data and information is only managed by a certain level of management.
In addition, during threats such as civil unrests or riots data will be managed effectively (Thejendra,
2008).

Long-Term Consequences Of Children In The Culture Of...
In today s society, children are immersed in the culture of competition. This can be seen in all aspects
of children lifestyles: games, sports, classroom settings, etc. Competition can be healthy in
moderation, but too often children are only taught to win. However, the long term consequences of
such a competitive culture are seldom thought of by parents. Placing too much emphasis on winning
can destroy a child s view on hard work and team play, as well as destroy self esteem and confidence
later on in life. In our society, competition is not beneficial for kids and must be discouraged, or we
risk raising a generation grown on false hope.
Hard work and team play are often aspects of a child s life that are diminished with the overemphasis

People argue that in order for our children to learn to succeed in life, we must train them from an early
age. Matt Richtel s New York Times article mentions this. Many scholars agree that competition is
necessary, ingrained and essential (Richtel, 2012). To some degree, this is true. We do need to train
children to excel in all that they are capable of doing. However, if we were to allow for competition to
be a part of the everyday lives of children, we must allow for it to occur only for self improvement. If
we allow for competition, we must make it okay for them to lose. A platform for trial and error is
necessary training. Sadly, not everyone has that mindset, and winning is the goal. We can t change
everyone s mind about it, so we must work to discourage childhood competition altogether. In
Competition Can Be a Positive Experience for Kids, Mark Cinelli analyzes the dynamics of
competition, and states the type of competition that we need to see in Competition is a big part of our
children s lives, and it s here to stay for a long time . . . We need to praise every effort by character,
self esteem, a competitive spirit and a sense of fair play. I think we d all agree that if our children
displayed all of the above attributes throughout their lives, we would be extremely proud parents.

Financial Performance Analysis
REVIEW OF LITERATURE Financial statement analysis is the process of examining relationships
among financial statement elements and making comparisons with relevant information. It is a tool in
decision making processes related to stocks, bonds, and other financial instruments. Analysis of
financial statements provides valuable information for managerial decision. Financial analysis is

Other factors should also be considered such as a company s products, management, competitors, and
vision for the future. (Fieldsend, Longford and McLeay, 1987). Following are the cautions while
doing financial analysis. First, a single ratio does not generally provide sufficient information from
which to judge the overall performance and status of the firm. Only when a group of ratios is used can
reasonable judgments be made. If an analysis is concerned only with certain specific aspects of a firm
s financial position, one or two ratios may be sufficient. Second, It is preferable to use audited
financial statements for ratio analysis. If the statements have not been audited, there may be no reason
to believe that the data contained in them reflect the firm s true financial condition. Third, the financial
data being compared should have been developed in the same way. The use of differing accounting
treatments, especially relative to inventory and depreciation can distort the results. (Whitis and Keith,
1993). Time series analysis is applied when a financial analysts evaluates performance over time.
Comparison of current to past performance, using ratio analysis, allows the firm to determine whether
it is progressing as planned. Using multiyear comparisons can see developing trends, and knowledge
of these trends should assist the firm in planning future operations. As in cross sectional analysis, any

Huck Finn Rejection Extract Analysis
Text C is based on a protagonist named Holden Caulfield, rejection is present in this extract as Holden
is constantly rejecting Ackley, a fellow student at Pencey. At times Holden also rejects himself as well
as society because he fails to fit in with everyone around him. Text H also incorporates rejection into
the extract, as Protagonist Huck Finn rejects religion, society and conformity. Both novels have
features in them which make them picaresque as both protagonists could be called outcasts and
rogues. Text H is also bildungsroman, as Huck goes on a journey of self discovery, whilst Holden does
not as he learns little about himself. In text C the audience is given a glimpse of how Holden feels
about himself as he says, I felt so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This narrative makes the reader feel as if the characters are speaking to them directly, highlighting
their rejection, loneliness and self dismissal. As the two protagonists use everyday speech it makes
them seem more lifelike and appealing to the reader as we feel more involved in the journey that they
both go on. We are also given a deeper insight into the boys themselves because if the novels were
told from a different perspective we wouldn t see their viewpoint on certain, important and influential
situations. Through the first person narrative we also understand their thought processes and feel their
pain, such as when Holden gets upset when he finds out Stradlater is with the girl he used to like.
Their view point of different situations allows the reader to further develop their understanding of the
characters. Such as when Holden doesn t want Ackley to know that Stradlater beat him up, he says I
didn t answer him when Ackley asked him questions about it or when Ackley wondered where the
blood came from and Holden s response was It ll stop . Holden s blunt, monosyllabic sentences show
that he doesn t want Ackley to know the facts behind the blood. This is maybe because it could
damage his highly built pride or because he gains pleasure from childishly withholding information
from Ackley. Huck s first person narrative shows us into his mind and thought process, understanding
the world through the eyes of child. As he is not yet an adult he doesn t understand most things going
on around him, I didn t think much of it , this shows that he loses interest and gives up easily because
he is not fully

Radicalism in Mary Wollstonecraft’s Writing
Radicalism in Mary Wollstonecraft s Writing
(Which author is more radical for her day?) In the years of the late 1700 s and early 1800 s women s
rights were unheard of. Women didn t get a higher education like the men did. They would mostly
learn about etiquette and how to cook and clean. The father of the daughter would choose who she
would marry, it would always be based on money, and family tithes. Women were treated as property
and she was owned by her father and mother tells she was wedded, and then her husband would own
her. But in theses years is when women started to more or less rebel and come out with new and
radical ideas. In the article by Jone Lewis she states, Mary Wollstonecraft has been called the first
feminist or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the article titled, Family Structure in Colonial times, the author states, Now, all along, there was the
occasional crack in the system, granting that a woman could take care of children in the tender years
three or seven years old. This meant that children were really never raised in a great way and they
were soon sent to work in factories, leaving the mother heartbroken.
The last reason Wollstonecraft s writing is more radical is the fact that she wants everyone to give
women a chance; if it doesn t work she won t mind taking the blame. In her essay she states, Let me
become more chaste and modest, and if women do not grow wiser in the same ratio it will be clear that
they have weaker understandings. She wasn t positive that women would succeed with more rights,
but she still was fighting for a chance for them. It was a huge step to put herself on the line because if
women had begun to get rights, but it was in fact true that they weren t as smart, the blame would be
put on her. In the article Colonial Times, the author states, During the 18th century, the women s role
and work was extremely difficult, exhausting, and society was unappreciative. This proves that
women worked hard from the start and if they could just get some more education they could be as
successful as men.
Overall, Mary Wollstonecraft put a huge impact on women s rights in the early 1800 s,

  • 2. Benin Art To answer the questions in Primary source assignment 4, I will look at the Benin plaque, the oba with Europeans, and compare and contrast it to art encountered in primary source assignment 2. I will then consider what role isolationism played in relationships between Portugal and communities in the East and West African coasts. Finally, I will look to answer the question on who discovered whom, and conclude by looking at the long term effects of Portuguese contact with Africa. When taken out of its specific region, and time period, what can the Benin plaque the oba with Europeans tell us about its people and culture? An effort to impress the King of Benin was a likely motivation for the production of this work of art. His central placement and diminutive imprint of the Europeans was likely intended to stroke his ego. This observation is supported by Neil MacGregor s podcast where he observes that Benin art was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... West African reception of Portuguese was generally good, Portuguese sailors and traders accounts of fair treatment are a testament to this view. In contrast, reception in East Africa was less hospitable, and in many instances, hostile. What could have been the course of this? I would offer Isolation is a likely cause. East Africa was less isolated. Contact with the outside world had made the region suspicious of strangers, especially those who didn t share a similar culture and religion. Trade with partners in the Indian Ocean had made the region wealthy, negating the need to find new trading partners, which further complicated the outreach efforts made by the Portuguese. In contrast, Vasco Da Gama found communities West African that had made no direct international trading partners or alliances. Isolation allowed their curiosity towards the new visitors to overcame caution, which led to trade, co operation and initially, a relationship based mutual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will also assess the company s performance generally. Conclusion: Overall it seems that Domestic Dog Homes is financially in an unstable state as it is either performing reasonably well in order to survive or it is not doing so well is particular areas, e.g. current ratio and asset turnover. Part 4: the advantages and limitations of using Ratios There are several advantages and disadvantages of using ratios to assess and monitor the financial state of Domestic Dog Homes and they are: The ratios forecast the future: They indicate whether Domestic Dog Homes will be able to pay its debts and whether it will be able to survive. For instance the current ratio gives the company an insight of whether it will have enough money to pay back its debts and whether it will have to gain more money in order to cover the costs of its expenses as well as its debts. • 5. Servant Leadership Summary According to Greenleaf (1970), servant leadership is based on the premise that leaders who are best able to motivate followers are those who focus least on satisfying their own personal needs and most on prioritizing the fulfillment of the followers needs (as cited in Linden, Wayne, Liao, Meuser, 2014). Organizational culture is contingent on the leader s style and qualities, and how he is received by his employees. A manager that leads by servant leadership encourages an environment based significantly on trust, but also on collaboration and team building. Under servant leadership, a leader conducts institutional research and is realistic about the goals put in place. In the case study written by Kirby, Your Attitude Determines Your Altitude , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I had the opportunity to serve on a hiring committee for a large financial firm. The CEO, when he had the opportunity to mingle with his employees, was personable, and made it a point to know something specific about each employee during these rare encounters. Being a larger firm, the CEO used newsletters, emails, and various other tele communications as the only methods to correspond with his employees. He reasoned that some outreach was better than none, and the employees would instinctively know he cares; to him, this was the formula to a successful business and great innovation. The CEO was convinced he managed a networked driven culture. On the surface, his messages were pleasant and motivating, and when asked, he believed he encouraged innovation and positioned employees for success. However, my committee surveyed this organization as a way to assist the CEO with employee retention. The survey was rather unpredictable; these employees were displeased with leadership. Similar to the case study referenced above, the CEO of this financial firm, like the radio station owner, assumed good intent, but was oblivious to his own organization s ... • 6. Historic Value Of The Oregon Historical District The Oregon Historical District is a twelve city block area in Dayton, Ohio that is registered with the National Register of Historic Places. This reasonably small area has both commercial and residential land uses. Though mixed use space, commercial and residential, is seen as a modern phenomenon, this area of land is quite old for an American city with the original plat recording in 1829. However, the homes in the area developed over a period of 100 years which allowed for them to development with different architectural features with the most common being Classic Revival. This different architectural development could also be seen throughout the business district. Intriguing ideas held within the historic value of the Oregon Historical District are the ideas of preservation and protection. Instead of requiring its residents to rehabilitate the homes to original status the requirements are that the home look authentic and have the appeal of authenticity. The aesthetic nature of the homes should be less museum like and more home like with the intention of preserving the architectural character of the past. In 1975, the Oregon Historical District ratified a Constitution with the most recent amendment in 2014. This Constitution requires that residents that live within the twelve block radius of the district be part of the Oregon District Historic Society. These residents are known as members and pay a yearly membership fee. There is a board of trustees that consists of nine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Let s see an example from the first part of Twilight Saga, because it has been already mentioned. In the first part of the series, Bella says, About three things I was absolutely positive. Gst Reform Case Study The Grattan Institute s proposal to broaden the base and increase the rate of the goods and services tax (GST) is rooted in principles of economic rationalism that fail to sufficiently consider political and pragmatic concerns. Comprehending the manner in which policy networks in Australia have evolved in recent decades is crucial towards placing the Grattan Institute s role into context as the identification of key actors and political groups in this debate otherwise would be opaque. Issues of constitutionality and political controversy naturally arise when considering this far reaching reform due to pressures that the GST impose on the very essence of federalism and power in Australia. The advantages of reforming the GST are largely derived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The heuristic and iterative approach of the policy cycle suggests that proposals to amend the GST appear to be languishing during its early phases. Of the eight distinct segments that comprise the policy cycle, it seems that the government has so far only progressed through the first four: the identification of the issue, policy analysis, policy instruments, and consultation. The government has certainly advanced to at least the second stage of the policy cycle as the Department of the Treasury (2016, p. 1) has publicly released economic modelling asserting [a] tax mix switch involving income tax cuts and increasing the GST to 15 per cent would deliver negligible GDP gains. Whilst it is debateable as to whether the government can be considered as having entered the consultation phase, the presence of numerous public comments on GST reform by Liberal Party Members of Parliament indicates that the party room has likely discussed the topic in at least a peripheral sense. However, the policy cycle does possess serious limitations that detract from its ability to serve as an effective prism through which to judge government movement on the GST. A powerful criticism of the cycle is that it ignores the role that non ministerial, non major party parliamentarians play in shaping the course of public policy, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. My First Lesson On The Battle Of Lexington And Concord This week I only attended three days for block teaching. Monday was Columbus Day so the school was closed and everyone had the day off. Friday I did not attend because it was fall break for WIU so I decided to go home for the weekend. On Tuesday the students worked on Cornell notes for several headings in their textbook. Then on Wednesday I taught my first lesson on the battles of Lexington and Concord. The students analyzed two primary source documents then as a class we discussed their similarities and differences. The lesson went well despite the fact that two thirds of the class was missing due to state testing. The fact that majority of the class made me worried for the lesson I prepared for the following day because the two lessons were designed to match up. However, I was pleasantly surprised that Thursday s lesson went as smoothly as it did. The students stayed on task and were focused so I did not have really any issues with classroom management. Since this week was short and I taught two out of the three days I was present my teacher didn t have much involvement with his class. On Thursday when one student was getting a big rowdy before class due to an argument my mentor pulled him into the hallway to address the situation. I believe my best classroom management skills were displayed during my Wednesday lesson. Due to majority of the class being missing I got the vibe that the students who were present thought of it as a free day. I had one student who decided ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Such will ensure that the records of the firm are not tampered with and as such the company is able to run business without fundamental data loss (Menken and Blokdjik, 2010). The company can also ensure the installment of fire extinguishers and fire exit doors within the firm s premises to create better channels of evacuation during fire outbreaks. In addition, smoke detectors and alarms should also be installed to signify and create warnings in case of such. Establishing access codes to data registries is another security measure that the firm can uphold. This will ensure that confidential data and information is only managed by a certain level of management. In addition, during threats such as civil unrests or riots data will be managed effectively (Thejendra, 2008). Potential disaster ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Long-Term Consequences Of Children In The Culture Of... In today s society, children are immersed in the culture of competition. This can be seen in all aspects of children lifestyles: games, sports, classroom settings, etc. Competition can be healthy in moderation, but too often children are only taught to win. However, the long term consequences of such a competitive culture are seldom thought of by parents. Placing too much emphasis on winning can destroy a child s view on hard work and team play, as well as destroy self esteem and confidence later on in life. In our society, competition is not beneficial for kids and must be discouraged, or we risk raising a generation grown on false hope. Hard work and team play are often aspects of a child s life that are diminished with the overemphasis on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People argue that in order for our children to learn to succeed in life, we must train them from an early age. Matt Richtel s New York Times article mentions this. Many scholars agree that competition is necessary, ingrained and essential (Richtel, 2012). To some degree, this is true. We do need to train children to excel in all that they are capable of doing. However, if we were to allow for competition to be a part of the everyday lives of children, we must allow for it to occur only for self improvement. If we allow for competition, we must make it okay for them to lose. A platform for trial and error is necessary training. Sadly, not everyone has that mindset, and winning is the goal. We can t change everyone s mind about it, so we must work to discourage childhood competition altogether. In Competition Can Be a Positive Experience for Kids, Mark Cinelli analyzes the dynamics of competition, and states the type of competition that we need to see in Competition is a big part of our children s lives, and it s here to stay for a long time . . . We need to praise every effort by character, self esteem, a competitive spirit and a sense of fair play. I think we d all agree that if our children displayed all of the above attributes throughout their lives, we would be extremely proud parents. (Cinelli, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Other factors should also be considered such as a company s products, management, competitors, and vision for the future. (Fieldsend, Longford and McLeay, 1987). Following are the cautions while doing financial analysis. First, a single ratio does not generally provide sufficient information from which to judge the overall performance and status of the firm. Only when a group of ratios is used can reasonable judgments be made. If an analysis is concerned only with certain specific aspects of a firm s financial position, one or two ratios may be sufficient. Second, It is preferable to use audited financial statements for ratio analysis. If the statements have not been audited, there may be no reason to believe that the data contained in them reflect the firm s true financial condition. Third, the financial data being compared should have been developed in the same way. The use of differing accounting treatments, especially relative to inventory and depreciation can distort the results. (Whitis and Keith, 1993). Time series analysis is applied when a financial analysts evaluates performance over time. Comparison of current to past performance, using ratio analysis, allows the firm to determine whether it is progressing as planned. Using multiyear comparisons can see developing trends, and knowledge of these trends should assist the firm in planning future operations. As in cross sectional analysis, any ... • 34. Huck Finn Rejection Extract Analysis Text C is based on a protagonist named Holden Caulfield, rejection is present in this extract as Holden is constantly rejecting Ackley, a fellow student at Pencey. At times Holden also rejects himself as well as society because he fails to fit in with everyone around him. Text H also incorporates rejection into the extract, as Protagonist Huck Finn rejects religion, society and conformity. Both novels have features in them which make them picaresque as both protagonists could be called outcasts and rogues. Text H is also bildungsroman, as Huck goes on a journey of self discovery, whilst Holden does not as he learns little about himself. In text C the audience is given a glimpse of how Holden feels about himself as he says, I felt so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This narrative makes the reader feel as if the characters are speaking to them directly, highlighting their rejection, loneliness and self dismissal. As the two protagonists use everyday speech it makes them seem more lifelike and appealing to the reader as we feel more involved in the journey that they both go on. We are also given a deeper insight into the boys themselves because if the novels were told from a different perspective we wouldn t see their viewpoint on certain, important and influential situations. Through the first person narrative we also understand their thought processes and feel their pain, such as when Holden gets upset when he finds out Stradlater is with the girl he used to like. Their view point of different situations allows the reader to further develop their understanding of the characters. Such as when Holden doesn t want Ackley to know that Stradlater beat him up, he says I didn t answer him when Ackley asked him questions about it or when Ackley wondered where the blood came from and Holden s response was It ll stop . Holden s blunt, monosyllabic sentences show that he doesn t want Ackley to know the facts behind the blood. This is maybe because it could damage his highly built pride or because he gains pleasure from childishly withholding information from Ackley. Huck s first person narrative shows us into his mind and thought process, understanding the world through the eyes of child. As he is not yet an adult he doesn t understand most things going on around him, I didn t think much of it , this shows that he loses interest and gives up easily because he is not fully ... • 35. Radicalism in Mary Wollstonecraft’s Writing Radicalism in Mary Wollstonecraft s Writing (Which author is more radical for her day?) In the years of the late 1700 s and early 1800 s women s rights were unheard of. Women didn t get a higher education like the men did. They would mostly learn about etiquette and how to cook and clean. The father of the daughter would choose who she would marry, it would always be based on money, and family tithes. Women were treated as property and she was owned by her father and mother tells she was wedded, and then her husband would own her. But in theses years is when women started to more or less rebel and come out with new and radical ideas. In the article by Jone Lewis she states, Mary Wollstonecraft has been called the first feminist or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the article titled, Family Structure in Colonial times, the author states, Now, all along, there was the occasional crack in the system, granting that a woman could take care of children in the tender years three or seven years old. This meant that children were really never raised in a great way and they were soon sent to work in factories, leaving the mother heartbroken. The last reason Wollstonecraft s writing is more radical is the fact that she wants everyone to give women a chance; if it doesn t work she won t mind taking the blame. In her essay she states, Let me become more chaste and modest, and if women do not grow wiser in the same ratio it will be clear that they have weaker understandings. She wasn t positive that women would succeed with more rights, but she still was fighting for a chance for them. It was a huge step to put herself on the line because if women had begun to get rights, but it was in fact true that they weren t as smart, the blame would be put on her. In the article Colonial Times, the author states, During the 18th century, the women s role and work was extremely difficult, exhausting, and society was unappreciative. This proves that women worked hard from the start and if they could just get some more education they could be as successful as men. Overall, Mary Wollstonecraft put a huge impact on women s rights in the early 1800 s, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
