China Airlines Flight 611 Research Paper
China Airlines flight 611 was a regularly scheduled flight from Taiwan International Airport to Hong
Kong International Airport. The Boeing 747 flight took off on schedule and departed over the Taiwan
Strait between China mainland and the island of Taiwan. Around 20 minutes into the flight the
airplane obliterated without warning and crashed into the Taiwan Strait. There were no warning signs
to the disaster, and this made discovering the cause very difficult. Engineers began recovering parts of
the plane to begin analyzing what caused the disaster. What they did not know is that the reason for
the disaster, began twenty two years before in Hong Kong. Until one day, when they discovered a
piece on the lower part of the tail, that led ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was determined that ballistic trajectory analysis was the next method to try and solve the mystery.
Ballistic trajectory analysis is a computer program that uses factors of the atmosphere and the plane to
trace where each object landed. This system is based on the fact that the part that breaks off first will
land in the water first. The engineers used the GPS locations of each of the pieces along with the
weight, speed, direction, ocean currents, and wind to determine which part of the plane broke off and
therefore landed first. After performing this analysis, it was concluded that the tail end of the plane
broke off first, and after they discovered this, the focus of the investigation focused to the tail. Then
one day while scanning over the wreckage pieces, metallurgist Frank Zakar noticed a certain piece that
had a different looking crack than all of the other pieces. When an airplane breaks in midair, many
smaller pieces break off just because of the sudden force of the air acting on it, this is called an
overload fracture. Overload fractures break at an angle, and up to this point all the pieces of metal that
had been found had this characteristic. The new piece that was found did not have this type of
character at all. The engineers examined this piece and found that it had very smooth cracking, very
typical of metal fatigue. Metal

an area of particular weakness for Chinese OEMs who have relied on their foreign partners to lead
the development of key component technologies. The determining factor in whether a car company
can compete in the international markets is whether they have the capacity to meet local consumer as
well as regulatory requirements. While Chinese firms have learned very quickly how to assemble cars

Isolation In Frankenstein
Throughout the course of the novel, Shelley isolated Frankenstein countless times to develop his
character. Isolation is the process to be or remain alone or apart from others. Due to seclusion,
Frankenstein not only became socially isolated, but also quite lonely. The first moment we see
Frankenstein being isolated is when he is engrossed in reading the past alchemists books, and
wondering about the universe and the human mind; this small remoteness begins before he travels to
Ingolstadt for university. This seclusion does not depress him, neither does it make him socially inept,
it simply a start push to the journey. The second time Shelley detaches Frankenstein from society is
when he is sent to university and is engrossed in his scientific ... Show more content on

Military Career Essay
Many jobs exist within the broadcasting field. Some of these jobs include: news anchors, cameramen,
production specialists, journalists, and writers. Also, all of these jobs exist in news agencies,
regardless of the size. Furthermore, the military has its own public affairs section within each branch.
Essentially, the military equivalent completes the same tasks, but reports on different types of stories.
All in all, the civilian component focuses on the widespread news. Examples of widespread news are:
presidential elections, crimes, weather, or other important community events. These stories revolve
around the safety, or educating the general public on current events. On the other hand, the military
public affairs section focuses on wartime ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mission statement for combat camera follows:
The mission of COMCAM is to provide the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), the Chairman
of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS), the Military Departments (MILDEPs), the combatant commands,
and the joint task forces (JTFs) with a directed imagery capability in support of operational and
planning requirements during wartime operations, worldwide crises, contingencies, and joint
exercises.
Overall, the mission is relatively simple: gather footage of combat situations on the group and present
the footage to various levels of command. The footage will then be analyzed to determine combat
effectiveness, situational status in the area, and provide historical documentation of wars the United
States is involved in. Furthermore, the footage can be used on a strategic level for planning. All in all,
the COMCAM mission is vital to the success of the U.S. troops. Also, footage taken from Haiti or
other areas destroyed by natural disasters are recorded by combat camera. Then, this footage is shown
on the news networks, which contributes to a better understanding of the situation. Aside from the
mission, combat cameramen have contributed historical documentation as well. In fact, most of the
war footage from World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan was recorded by
COMCAM. For example, the flag raising at Iwo Jima was recorded by a combat cameraman. This
footage is a landmark in the history of the United States and it shown often in history books or on T.V.
From a historical perspective, this job is truly important. Overall, if the area is too dangerous for
conventional reporters, combat cameramen can retrieve footage for use on T.V., planning, or historical

The Causes And Effects Of Climate Change
Climate Change
Climate change is caused by human activity. This climate change in turn, causes hurricanes. The
hurricanes will destroy the human population main resources. This will lower people into having less
important resources such as: food, shelter, and water. Having less resources could lead to poverty,
which is known in developing countries such as: India, Philippines, and Haiti (Weeks 56). There are
also changes in the oceans that are being affected. This change occurring could lead to the ocean over
flooding due to contaminating the ocean caused by humans because humans have an impact on the
environment. Humanity needs to cut down the production in the coal industry because people are
burning the coal; this is causing the coal to pollute the air people breath. The effects of climate change
is caused by deforestation, overpopulation, burning coal, and contaminated food production.
The cutting of the trees is causing deforestation, the trees are a helpful resource in the environment.
According to an article by Struck states, Experts say deforestation threatens a delicate balance in
which forests act as Earth s lungs: absorbing carbon dioxide the biggest contributor to climate change
and expelling oxygen (29). This effect causes more of the air to become contaminated by carbon
dioxide. Carbon dioxide is a harmful gas that is released into the air. The trees help keep down the
carbon dioxide in the air; this releases oxygen, so people can breathe clean air. As

There is a constant interaction between the physiological system in terms of visual information
processing and cognitive performance. It is conceivable that older drivers who suffer from poor vision
would ultimately have worse cognitive performance irrespective of the degree of age related cognitive
declines. In other words, declines in physiological performance exacerbate the effects of aging on
cognitive functioning. Brouwer (1993) contends that impairments that lie both on the level of receptor
effector organs and on the level of cognitive functioning, particularly
4
attention, contribute to the problems older drivers encounter with the driving task.
For example, perceptual, cognitive, and motor declines affect an older driver s ability to merge with
traffic. On the perceptual level, older adults have difficulty seeing and determining the speed and
distance of the traffic they need to merge with. On the motor level, they have difficulty turning their
necks and looking back far enough to see that traffic. And, cognitively, they have difficulty
maintaining all the information needed to make a decision about joining the flow of traffic because of
declines in attention and working memory. When they eventually respond however, they are slower to
do so than the situation requires.
Clearly, cognitive performance is critical because driving requires the attentiveness of the individual
to the driving environment (Transportation Research

ancient India in the sixth century by Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha). It spread through much of Asia

Noble Eightfold Path and The Five Precept, Unsatisfactoriness. These basically deal with the way
suffering exists universally, and that desire and attachment are the causes of unsatisfactoriness and

Joy Luck Club Character Analysis
No one is the same everyone is a different person and while people may have similarities they are still
different people with different ideas and thoughts and outlooks on life even mothers and daughters.
Such as the daughters and mothers in the book, The Joy Luck Club. For starters, a young girl named
June and her mother Suyuan Woo were both alike in one common idea that they had completely
different views on everything even in speaking as she states, these kinds of explanations made me feel
my mother and I spoke two different languages, which we did. I talked to her in english, she answered
back in chinese. (Joy Luck, Tan,34) In saying this June tells metaphorically that they don t speak the
same language as in her mother and her never really seen things in the same light and literally as she
does not speak her mother s tongue. Even when they relate physically the mother relays to her
daughter that she is a foreigner to her and her past as the story goes, A friend once told me that my
mother and i were alike, that we had the same wispy hand gestures, same girlish laugh and sideways
look. When I shyly told my mother this, she seemed insulted and said, you don t even know little
percent of me how can you be me. (Joy Luck,Tan,27) This shows that while the daughter was trying to
relate to the mother by telling of her friends thoughts of their physical similarities she dismisses these
and says that her own daughter does not know her as a person. Secondly, over the

Importance of Early Childhood Education Essay
Importance of Early Childhood Education
Early childhood education is for children from the ages three to eight years old. In this field there are
four learning goals that early programs have for a young child.
The four learning goals are: knowledge (consists of facts, concepts, ideas, and vocabulary), skills (
small units of action that occur in short period of time), disposition ( respond to certain situations), and
feelings ( emotional states) ( Katz 2003). With an successful care giving and early education, it can
bring an positive outcome to a child s life. What a child learns in their early years are things that will

Not only does early education bring the benefit of interaction, it also lets the child feel loved and have
trust in others. If a child is encountered with early programs then they are able to meet the needs of
their child stage life. If these needs are not properly met, then they may become less successful in their
performance in an educational environment.
Learning Opportunities
There are many types of learning opportunities that can encourage a child to learn and help to enhance
their abilities. Child care centers are a great way to encourage a child to learn, and to be ready for the
school atmosphere. The Big Top Child Care Center in Laurel, Maryland have an excellent program for
children between two to nine years of age. They have an environment where teachers are well trained
and are first aid and CPR certified. They enhance a child s learning by providing them with nutrition,
educational field trips, and special events. Elementary schools are the opening door for early
childhood education. Children can begin their learning experience in pre kindergarten and
kindergarten which are the first grades of elementary education. Ring Factory Elementary located at
Harford county in Maryland is a school that has three kindergarten classes that teach five to six year
olds the beginning of their educational life. Not only are there child care centers and schools a great

Reality And Malthus Predictions Of Population
Reality and Malthus Predictions of Population
Imagine if Earth s population was so large that all of the world s resources had to be exhausted to their
last limits just to provide food for only half of the population. That is exactly what 17th century
demographer Thomas Malthus envisioned when he predicted how the world s population would affect
the world s resources. In An Essay on the Principle of Population, published in the late 18th century,
Malthus expressed many controversial predictions in which he argued that the increase of resources
was arithmetic while the increase in population was exponential; thus, he concluded that the
population would greatly outpace the amount of resource growth on Earth. Being that Malthus made
his predictions during the industrial revolution (which was when North America and Europe reached
stage two of the demographic transition), many critics of his theory claim that Malthus calculations
were inaccurate because he did not consider technological advances in relation to food production.
Also, Malthus critics believe that he overestimated population increase (mainly because of the time
period he lived in) and (adverb) underestimated the production rate of resources. Though both sides of
the debate are plausible, it is evident that Malthus views were incorrect because modern day statistics
regarding population and food production do not support his claims. Therefore, because of Malthus
uncircumspect approach when he predicted population

Comparing the Beloved in Shakespeare s Sonnet 20 and...
Comparing the Beloved in Shakespeare s Sonnet 20 and Sonnet 130
In the hands of a master such as Shakespeare, the conventions of the sonnet form are manipulated and
transformed into something unique and originally emphasized. Both sonnets in one way or another
subvert the conventions of the base Petrarchan sonnet; though they are about love, the traditional topic
of sonnets, whilst in Sonnet 20 the object of desire is unattainable and there is no evidence of the level
of affection being requited, the target is male, and the target of the poet s affections in Sonnet 130 is
the poetic voice s current mistress. It also seems important to note that love in neither of these cases is
of the generic youthful female Aryan stereotype, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poetic voice s mistress is of nature; no supernal gifts are hers. It is even strongly indicated that she
is beneath the highest forms of beauty nature has to offer (her eyes are nothing like the sun , coral is
far more red than her lips, no roses see I in her cheeks .) But this is to stray beyond the confines of the
original subject, the rest of the verse argues, because the love the voice has for its lover is as rare as
any other; beauty does not have to draw such clichéd parallels with nature to be thought of in the mind
of a lover as surpassing everything around it. In reference to this repeated theme, in the introduction to
the Penguin Classics printing of the Sonnets (though in reference specifically to sonnet 84), editor
John Kerrigan concludes:
Which hyperbolic poet , Shakespeare asks, which most sayer, can exceed this sublime truism, that you
alone are you . For you comprise the only things which, in honesty, you can be compared with .
This sonnet serves to invoke a strong sense of realism in love, arguing that as strong an intensity of
emotion as may be held, may be held, without the need for delusions of grandeur, taking the view that
trying to reconcile two essentially different and diverse things as equal is to do true justice to neither.
The beloved in this case thus represents more the need for a character developed to challenge
stereotype than an actual real life woman,

Housing Persuasive Speech
Today, I am going to speak about the affordable housing in Pittsburgh .First let me tell about why the
affordable housing is preferred. People who live in affordable housing today want safe, decent housing
for the same reasons that we all do. The reasons are mainly to provide a nurturing environment to raise
their children. Another reason is to remain in the community where they were raised or to become part
of a community in which they want to settle. Finally, to live in an attractive, safe environment that
they can afford. People who need affordable housing are ones that are employed as secretaries, school

The completed Eastside and Bond apartment complex in East Liberty is perched directly above the

Unfortunately for Pittsburghers of lower and middle income means, living in Eastside and Bond isn t

questions that if God commanded us to commit an act of cruelty and inflict suffering onto other
human beings just for the sake of His will, would that act still be considered morally right to perform?
Moreover, would it be morally wrong for us to deny the participation in said cruelty? With these
questions in mind, Robert Adams offered an amendment to the Divine Command Theory by clarifying
some aspects of the original philosophy and pointing out some conditions

Émile Durkheim Suicide Summary
Suicide by Émile Durkheim is well known text in sociology that is extensively taught to students
within the field. Suicide was published in 1897, the work is considered cutting edge both for showing
detailed research of suicide that revealed there can and is social causes to suicide. Based on Durkheim
s research he said that suicide can be caused by social factors, not just individual psychological ones.
Durkheim reasoned that being apart of society and integrated into groups in particular is a main factor.
The more involved in society and connected to others the less likely they are to commit suicide. As
this sense of belonging decreases suicide increases. Durkheim s theory is formulated by four types of
suicide (Egoistic, Altruistic, Anomic,

Essay on Ambiguity in Reason in Orlando Furioso
Ambiguity in Reason in Orlando Furioso
Ariosto addresses an underlying battle between reason and lust in Orlando Furioso, similar to the clash
between duty and desires in Vergil s Aeneid, yet opposite in interpretation. Vergil presents the message
that duty overpowers desires, while Ariosto shows the opposite effect when he equates reason, rules,
and authority with duty, and love, passion, and lust with desire. The mettlesome charger represents
Lust that will not stop fighting to obtain its goals and cannot be gently coerced from its direction.
Reason rarely overcomes Lust after it is set into action; once it is tasted it cannot be forgotten.
Bradamant is torn between lust and reason when she must choose between her desires ... Show more

Later, Rinaldo can no longer keep his promise to Ruggiero, and he blames Aymon for this failure. He
denounces his father and shuns filial respect. Aymon ignores Rinaldo s pleas and [means] to dispose of
his daughter as he [pleases] (44.75). Clearly, Aymon sees Bradamant as a piece of property. He wants
to gain money and a good name to honor his family through Bradamant s marriage. He does not care
whether or not love kindles between his daughter and the man she will spend her life with; he only
seeks control over his daughter and the situation. Even though Rinaldo is acting against his father,
therefore defying his duties and authority, his innocent intentions justify his action while Aymon s
actions display his self centered motives.
Beatrice hates Rinaldo s actions even more than Aymon does and declares her son arrogant. She
openly stands against a union between Bradamant and Ruggiero and tries to use her power to get what
she wants, a marriage between Bradamant and Leo. She assumes that Bradamant s ambitions match
her own and encourages her child to choose death over a penniless knight (44.38). If Bradamant acts
otherwise and follows Rinaldo s plan, Beatrice [will] never more own her for a daughter (44.38).
Beatrice s reasoning is based solely on greed; she wants Bradamant to submit to her own desires and
ideas and focuses on gaining wealth when choosing Bradamant s husband.

Clerici had a nursing background, and her founding of CTG to provide home care services had come
from her passion to serve patients. In less than 23 years, Clerici had established her company as one of
the top 15 home care providers in Ontario, growing to more than 500 workers.2 Like most owner
operators of small, growing companies, she had pledged personal assets, including her family home,
to underwrite the company s loans. Only recently had she been able to renegotiate this arrangement. 1

Pet Meds
The Role of Pet Meds in Taking Care of your Pet s Health and their Well Being
By pet options
Dec 24, 2011
Taking care of a pet is always an important task because they are just like us, the humans. In
particular, when we have a pet at home, we need to give the basic care and comfort to them. What you
need to do is just organized way of taking care of them. You don t need to toil a lot if you are
systematic in taking care of them. We certainly may need all the necessary pet items when we own a
pet because it needs maximum comfort and care. You cannot just ignore their needs. Moreover, you
don t need to worry a lot about this. When you can avail pet supplies out there in the market at
reasonable rates, why you need to panic? You can have a wonderful time with your pets if you pay
attention on such things.
Keeping all sorts of essential pet meds at home is more than a necessity. You never know when the pet
is going to fall sick. It does not mean that you have to keep all the medication at home; however, you
must have at least all the necessary medications at home. Medications for flea, stomach illness, cold,
vomiting, and diarrhoea is a must. You can get them easily from a local store or else you can order

fleas are away from the pets very soon. Another choice of medications at home is NSAIDs. Such
medications are a real help as you can give them when they are in any sort of pain or stress. For
instance the animal who suffers from osteoarthritis can take the help of NSAIDs such as Deramaax
and Etodolac. Meds like amitriptyline takes care of depression in animals. This medicine should be a

The Impact Of Social Worker On Contemporary Society
The role of a Social Worker in contemporary society has become a hot potato in today s social and
political world. The speech presented by Michael Gove at the launch of the fast track Social Work
training programme Frontline , proposes the age old debate surrounding the purpose of Social
Workers. Gove (2013) addresses Social Workers to stop viewing individuals they work with as victims
of social injustice , suggesting this robs individuals of their power of agency (Gove, 2013). All
causation of behaviour is reduced to simply personal factors such as substance abuse, domestic
violence and personal irresponsibility ; renouncing any possibility of economic and structural
influences (Gove, 2013). This approach to Social Work has been evident throughout the 19th Century,
demonstrated through the work of Octavia Hill (Price and Simpson, 2007) and Mary Richmond (Kam,
2012). This individualistic approach presupposes that change should come from within the individual,
encouraging Social Work to target these individual issues to strive for a overall better individual
(Leighninger, 2008). Social Worker s adopt the role of a technician ; predominantly focusing on the
best solution from the options they are given (Simpson and Connor, 2011). Although a technician can
be invaluable within practice, this theory has been largely criticised as it can focus too heavily on the
reductionist deficit model (Kam, 2012). The second extract taken from Simpson and

The Weaknesses of the Parti Quebecois Bill 60
Secularism Long before the October Crisis in the 1970 s, the Parti Quebecois has been trying to
separate from Canada. The Parti Quebecois has implemented their own charter called Bill 60 in order
amend the current Canada Charter of Rights and Freedoms which is entrenched in the Constitution of
Canada. If this proposed bill were to be passed, it will cause many problems amongst the citizens of
Quebec in terms of diversity as it will be banning some of the most important guaranteed rights stated
in the Constitution: Freedom of expression and freedom of religion. Although there are positives to a
secular state, there are also a few negatives if you were to look closely. Citizens moved to places like
Canada to practice their freedom, not to have them taken away. Taking away these rights could start
separatist groups and maybe even start wars within the province of Quebec. The reason why this bill is
being proposed it that they Parti Quebecois would like to see more equality between men and women
(cbc.ca). There really is no reason for this bill to be passed as it shows how weak Quebec is mainly
because they are afraid of losing their own culture. The Quebec government has proposed a secular
charter, which has sparked another debate from local, provincial and federal politicians. If passed,
public sector employees such as teachers, police officers, doctors, and even politicians will be banned
from wearing any religious symbol. Once the bill was proposed, it started a back and

Letters During The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution was a time of inventions, new ideas, and the process of beginning to make
machine produced goods. Prior to the Industrial Revolution in the late 1700s, the manufacturing of
goods were often done with basic machines and hand tools. Industrialization allowed a shift to
factories, special purpose machinery, and mass production. In the 1800s when industrialization
became popular in England, it took the rest of the world by storm. England was now using new
inventions that allowed for an improvement socially and economically. As time continued and
England had an increasing demand for goods, more cost efficient methods like the factory system and
the rise of mechanization came into play. Along with many new inventions, the telegraph was invented
and allowed for a whole new world of communication. At the time, people in Europe and America
lacked quick forms of communication. Letters had always been used as the most common method of
communication, however it took several days or even weeks for letters to be delivered. In cases of
emergencies, letters were not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Madeleine Leininger s Cultural Care Diversity Theory
Nursing theory provides the basis, or framework, of the nursing profession and helps to identify the
unique qualities of the profession. Without theory to explain the focus of the nursing profession, the
profession may lose direction and its understanding of new knowledge to build upon the discipline
(CCN, 2014). Theories must be applied in various settings such as bedside nursing, lead nurse
management, and executive management. One of the issues that our local healthcare system has been
dealing with is an increase in culturally diverse patients. There has been a recent surge in Sudanese
and Hispanic populations seeking healthcare. The direct care staff treating these patients need to have
resources available to provided culturally competent care. This includes things such as translators,
translating devices such as the blue telephone , and culturally appropriate spiritual care.
The theory chosen for analysis in this paper is Madeleine Leininger s Cultural Care Diversity Theory.
Leinenger s theory looks at individual patients with relation to their cultural heritage. The pieces of
her theory include culture, culture care, and culture care similarities and differences pertaining to
transcultural human care (CCN, 2014). This middle range theory has the potential to influence nurses
to provide culturally competent care to patients such as Hispanics. The writer of this paper has
unintentionally used Leinenger s theory in practice while caring for patients. There

needed to be like. The theme of the play was lived and shown by Ben.
The effect that Ben had on the development of other characters is shown the most by Willy. Willy was
the brother of Ben and wanted to be successful like his brother. Through all the trips Ben made, he
was quite a successful man. Ben was rich and happy, which is what Willy wanted to. When Willy s
mind was going crazy, Ben would appear to him at times. Willy always seemed to be happy when he

Willy thought about him. After the restaurant incident, Willy was once again visited by Ben. Ben was
telling Willy how his family would be financially stable from the insurance money if Willy died. This
conversation that Willy had with Ben seemed to convince Willy that he should kill himself in an
automobile accident. Throughout the play, Ben had an effect on the development of Willy.

Although John Kennedy managed to achieve this great feat against communism, he did overstep some
of the rights as President. It was a very risky order to blockade Cuban waters and coastlines, and it

refused to comply with U.S. orders to halt, they may have been fired on by one of the many nearby
American ships. Several Soviet ships were also boarded and inspected by American sailors ( 32 ). The
chance of war breaking out was very real, but it did not occur due to Premier Khrushchev ordering an

People make Choices Introduction:
From 1941 to 1945, The Holocaust took place in many countries, and millions of people died. Adolf
Hitler came to power in 1933 in Germany, and had an Aryan Race which was the Nazi s idea of a
master race. They thought that people with blonde hair and blue eyes were perfect. Adolf Hitler
developed a plan called the Final Solution, which was to kill mostly Jewish people, but also anyone
who did not fit his standards. Hitler rounded up all of the people he disliked, and he placed them in
concentration camps and death camps. In these awful places, these prisoners got tortured not only
physically, but also mentally. In France, many Jews were being deported to Germany, however; there
was so many, that they had to stay in concentration camps in France. The survival rate in France was
higher than any country in Europe during the Holocaust. Two very similar people who made very
different choices were in France during the Holocaust. A priest named Andre Trocme made a good
choice to save many Jews, and a SS officer named Klaus Barbie made a bad choice to kill thousands
of Jews ( The Holocaust ).
1st body paragraph: Andre Trocme was born on April 7, 1901 in northern France. When he was a
child, he spoke his mind, and did whatever he felt like he needed to do, which led him to be an
objector during World War 1. He attended seminary school in Paris as he was growing up, and then

There is historical evidence that the Anglo Saxon Beowulf was composed, or more exactly
transcribed, 900 years earlier than Grettir s Saga. According to Howell Chickering, Jr. there is only
one piece of verifiable historical data in Beowulf, Hygelac s death in 521 during a raid on the Frisians
(247). It is believed Grettir s Saga was originally written in Icelandic, sometime in the early 14th
century (Killings 1). Beowulf s scop describes the fluctuation of oral composition by saying he, found
new words, bound them up truly, / began to recite Beowulf s praise / a well made lay of glorious deed,
/ skillfully varied his matter and style (871a 874b). The time gap between the two works can be
narrowed to 400 years if one considers Beowulf s transcription point in the 10th century, and Grettir s
Saga in the 14th century. Chickering asserts Grettir s Saga and Beowulf, go back independently to a
common original (254), and are not evolutionary partners.
The plot outlined above illustrates the many close parallels of books 64 to 67 of Grettir s Saga and the
first book of Beowulf. However, the underlying religious tenor shifts significantly from work to work.
Grettir s Saga immediately identifies itself as a Christian tale through the introduction of a priest who,
after becoming the stranger s sidekick, banishes the hero. Grettir s monster only appears at Yuletide, a
time of Christian festivity formalized by

Consciousness Is The Subjective Perception Of The Self Essay
Consciousness has been referred to as the hard problem and still remains to be one of the most
baffling conundrums of our generation. Consciousness is the subjective perception of the self.
Consciousness allows us to feel happy, to solve problems, and to create memories.
Consciousness has historically laid beyond the confines of science. Rene Descartes, a French
philosopher, laid down the foundation of the study of consciousness by reflecting on what it meant to
be conscious. Descartes was the one who introduced the idea of the mind as separate from the body,
otherwise known as Cartesian Dualism. Descartes several theories sparked major controversy and
discussion about consciousness. During the twentieth century, consciousness was seen as a taboo
because usage of the word became overused and there was no precise way to describe it, so the word
was banned . Consciousness is a psychological construct because of its difficulty to be observed and
measured, which is why it can easily be seen as a taboo. Consciousness has gradually became easier to
define, and because it is now accepted in the world of science, it has begun to address some of the
most challenging questions of our time.
Since consciousness is now at the forefront of neuroscientific research , neuroscientists are able to
address daunting questions like that of vegetative patients and whether they are conscious, how to
diagnose these patients, and whether or not there are therapeutic interventions available,

Questions number 3, Asians, Africans and Europeans share common DNA variations, but African s

It is not the only factor that changes DNA. Natural selection and our environment have an effect, but it
is a slower progress.
Why are such misconceptions about race popularized?
With any misconception, the problem stems from lack of knowledge. The term race used presently is
incorrect and became popularized Contemporary scholars agree that race was a recent invention and
that it was essentially a folk idea, not a product of scientific research and discovery (www.pbs.org).
Race is term that is built on the science of genetics.
Let s begin from a more genetic approach. Unlike species of primates, human being do not vary as
largely as popular opinion would have you believe. A person taken from Asia and then compared to
one from Africa would have small genetic variations. That is not taking into consideration genetic
drift. If instead a person was take from everyone 100 miles instead, you would see the change in
genetics. That is not because of raise but due to environmental and social differences.
Now for the misconception of skin color. Skin color is an evolutionary trait. Natural selection to a skin
color that is most beneficial to the area of the planet. A person who lives in an area that receives high
amounts of UVB rays requires darker pigmentations to protect from over saturation of vitamin D and

Government intervention:
Government intervention are actions that interferes with the different activities or decisions made by
the individuals or the organizations in a market in hopes to correct market failures and promote

  • 2. China Airlines Flight 611 Research Paper China Airlines flight 611 was a regularly scheduled flight from Taiwan International Airport to Hong Kong International Airport. The Boeing 747 flight took off on schedule and departed over the Taiwan Strait between China mainland and the island of Taiwan. Around 20 minutes into the flight the airplane obliterated without warning and crashed into the Taiwan Strait. There were no warning signs to the disaster, and this made discovering the cause very difficult. Engineers began recovering parts of the plane to begin analyzing what caused the disaster. What they did not know is that the reason for the disaster, began twenty two years before in Hong Kong. Until one day, when they discovered a piece on the lower part of the tail, that led ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was determined that ballistic trajectory analysis was the next method to try and solve the mystery. Ballistic trajectory analysis is a computer program that uses factors of the atmosphere and the plane to trace where each object landed. This system is based on the fact that the part that breaks off first will land in the water first. The engineers used the GPS locations of each of the pieces along with the weight, speed, direction, ocean currents, and wind to determine which part of the plane broke off and therefore landed first. After performing this analysis, it was concluded that the tail end of the plane broke off first, and after they discovered this, the focus of the investigation focused to the tail. Then one day while scanning over the wreckage pieces, metallurgist Frank Zakar noticed a certain piece that had a different looking crack than all of the other pieces. When an airplane breaks in midair, many smaller pieces break off just because of the sudden force of the air acting on it, this is called an overload fracture. Overload fractures break at an angle, and up to this point all the pieces of metal that had been found had this characteristic. The new piece that was found did not have this type of character at all. The engineers examined this piece and found that it had very smooth cracking, very typical of metal fatigue. Metal ... However, the highly fragmented industry that results from this creates enormous inefficiencies in the area of capital investment. This fragmentation also makes it very difficult to focus and allocate resources to the development of critical technologies related to safety and fuel economy. This is 2 Booz Company an area of particular weakness for Chinese OEMs who have relied on their foreign partners to lead the development of key component technologies. The determining factor in whether a car company can compete in the international markets is whether they have the capacity to meet local consumer as well as regulatory requirements. While Chinese firms have learned very quickly how to assemble cars and develop supply chains, they are very inexperienced at the vehicle development and synthesis process. An automobile is a complex engineered system requiring advanced technology and know how in order to test and validate the achievement of benchmark targets in the areas of performance, fuel economy, safety and quality. The mission statement for combat camera follows: The mission of COMCAM is to provide the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS), the Military Departments (MILDEPs), the combatant commands, and the joint task forces (JTFs) with a directed imagery capability in support of operational and planning requirements during wartime operations, worldwide crises, contingencies, and joint exercises. Overall, the mission is relatively simple: gather footage of combat situations on the group and present the footage to various levels of command. The footage will then be analyzed to determine combat effectiveness, situational status in the area, and provide historical documentation of wars the United States is involved in. Furthermore, the footage can be used on a strategic level for planning. All in all, the COMCAM mission is vital to the success of the U.S. troops. Also, footage taken from Haiti or other areas destroyed by natural disasters are recorded by combat camera. Then, this footage is shown on the news networks, which contributes to a better understanding of the situation. Aside from the mission, combat cameramen have contributed historical documentation as well. In fact, most of the war footage from World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan was recorded by COMCAM. For example, the flag raising at Iwo Jima was recorded by a combat cameraman. This footage is a landmark in the history of the United States and it shown often in history books or on T.V. • 9. The Causes And Effects Of Climate Change Climate Change Climate change is caused by human activity. This climate change in turn, causes hurricanes. The hurricanes will destroy the human population main resources. This will lower people into having less important resources such as: food, shelter, and water. Having less resources could lead to poverty, which is known in developing countries such as: India, Philippines, and Haiti (Weeks 56). There are also changes in the oceans that are being affected. This change occurring could lead to the ocean over flooding due to contaminating the ocean caused by humans because humans have an impact on the environment. Humanity needs to cut down the production in the coal industry because people are burning the coal; this is causing the coal to pollute the air people breath. The effects of climate change is caused by deforestation, overpopulation, burning coal, and contaminated food production. The cutting of the trees is causing deforestation, the trees are a helpful resource in the environment. According to an article by Struck states, Experts say deforestation threatens a delicate balance in which forests act as Earth s lungs: absorbing carbon dioxide the biggest contributor to climate change and expelling oxygen (29). This effect causes more of the air to become contaminated by carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is a harmful gas that is released into the air. The trees help keep down the carbon dioxide in the air; this releases oxygen, so people can breathe clean air. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is a constant interaction between the physiological system in terms of visual information processing and cognitive performance. It is conceivable that older drivers who suffer from poor vision would ultimately have worse cognitive performance irrespective of the degree of age related cognitive declines. In other words, declines in physiological performance exacerbate the effects of aging on cognitive functioning. Brouwer (1993) contends that impairments that lie both on the level of receptor effector organs and on the level of cognitive functioning, particularly 4 attention, contribute to the problems older drivers encounter with the driving task. For example, perceptual, cognitive, and motor declines affect an older driver s ability to merge with traffic. On the perceptual level, older adults have difficulty seeing and determining the speed and distance of the traffic they need to merge with. On the motor level, they have difficulty turning their necks and looking back far enough to see that traffic. And, cognitively, they have difficulty maintaining all the information needed to make a decision about joining the flow of traffic because of declines in attention and working memory. When they eventually respond however, they are slower to do so than the situation requires. Clearly, cognitive performance is critical because driving requires the attentiveness of the individual to the driving environment (Transportation Research

  • 18. Reality And Malthus Predictions Of Population Reality and Malthus Predictions of Population Imagine if Earth s population was so large that all of the world s resources had to be exhausted to their last limits just to provide food for only half of the population. That is exactly what 17th century demographer Thomas Malthus envisioned when he predicted how the world s population would affect the world s resources. In An Essay on the Principle of Population, published in the late 18th century, Malthus expressed many controversial predictions in which he argued that the increase of resources was arithmetic while the increase in population was exponential; thus, he concluded that the population would greatly outpace the amount of resource growth on Earth. Being that Malthus made his predictions during the industrial revolution (which was when North America and Europe reached stage two of the demographic transition), many critics of his theory claim that Malthus calculations were inaccurate because he did not consider technological advances in relation to food production. Also, Malthus critics believe that he overestimated population increase (mainly because of the time period he lived in) and (adverb) underestimated the production rate of resources. Though both sides of the debate are plausible, it is evident that Malthus views were incorrect because modern day statistics regarding population and food production do not support his claims. Comparing the Beloved in Shakespeare s Sonnet 20 and Sonnet 130 In the hands of a master such as Shakespeare, the conventions of the sonnet form are manipulated and transformed into something unique and originally emphasized. Both sonnets in one way or another subvert the conventions of the base Petrarchan sonnet; though they are about love, the traditional topic of sonnets, whilst in Sonnet 20 the object of desire is unattainable and there is no evidence of the level of affection being requited, the target is male, and the target of the poet s affections in Sonnet 130 is the poetic voice s current mistress. The poetic voice s mistress is of nature; no supernal gifts are hers. It is even strongly indicated that she is beneath the highest forms of beauty nature has to offer (her eyes are nothing like the sun , coral is far more red than her lips, no roses see I in her cheeks .) But this is to stray beyond the confines of the original subject, the rest of the verse argues, because the love the voice has for its lover is as rare as any other; beauty does not have to draw such clichéd parallels with nature to be thought of in the mind of a lover as surpassing everything around it. In reference to this repeated theme, in the introduction to the Penguin Classics printing of the Sonnets (though in reference specifically to sonnet 84), editor John Kerrigan concludes: Which hyperbolic poet , Shakespeare asks, which most sayer, can exceed this sublime truism, that you alone are you . For you comprise the only things which, in honesty, you can be compared with . This sonnet serves to invoke a strong sense of realism in love, arguing that as strong an intensity of emotion as may be held, may be held, without the need for delusions of grandeur, taking the view that trying to reconcile two essentially different and diverse things as equal is to do true justice to neither. This concept asserts that a morally right action was commanded by God. Conversely, an act is reflected as morally wrong if it goes against the will of God. The speech presented by Michael Gove at the launch of the fast track Social Work training programme Frontline , proposes the age old debate surrounding the purpose of Social Workers. Gove (2013) addresses Social Workers to stop viewing individuals they work with as victims of social injustice , suggesting this robs individuals of their power of agency (Gove, 2013). All causation of behaviour is reduced to simply personal factors such as substance abuse, domestic violence and personal irresponsibility ; renouncing any possibility of economic and structural influences (Gove, 2013). This approach to Social Work has been evident throughout the 19th Century, demonstrated through the work of Octavia Hill (Price and Simpson, 2007) and Mary Richmond (Kam, 2012). This individualistic approach presupposes that change should come from within the individual, encouraging Social Work to target these individual issues to strive for a overall better individual (Leighninger, 2008). Social Worker s adopt the role of a technician ; predominantly focusing on the best solution from the options they are given (Simpson and Connor, 2011). Although a technician can be invaluable within practice, this theory has been largely criticised as it can focus too heavily on the reductionist deficit model (Kam, 2012). The Parti Quebecois has implemented their own charter called Bill 60 in order amend the current Canada Charter of Rights and Freedoms which is entrenched in the Constitution of Canada. If this proposed bill were to be passed, it will cause many problems amongst the citizens of Quebec in terms of diversity as it will be banning some of the most important guaranteed rights stated in the Constitution: Freedom of expression and freedom of religion. Although there are positives to a secular state, there are also a few negatives if you were to look closely. Citizens moved to places like Canada to practice their freedom, not to have them taken away. Taking away these rights could start separatist groups and maybe even start wars within the province of Quebec. The reason why this bill is being proposed it that they Parti Quebecois would like to see more equality between men and women (cbc.ca). There really is no reason for this bill to be passed as it shows how weak Quebec is mainly because they are afraid of losing their own culture. The Quebec government has proposed a secular charter, which has sparked another debate from local, provincial and federal politicians. If passed, public sector employees such as teachers, police officers, doctors, and even politicians will be banned from wearing any religious symbol. Prior to the Industrial Revolution in the late 1700s, the manufacturing of goods were often done with basic machines and hand tools. Industrialization allowed a shift to factories, special purpose machinery, and mass production. In the 1800s when industrialization became popular in England, it took the rest of the world by storm. England was now using new inventions that allowed for an improvement socially and economically. As time continued and England had an increasing demand for goods, more cost efficient methods like the factory system and the rise of mechanization came into play. Along with many new inventions, the telegraph was invented and allowed for a whole new world of communication. At the time, people in Europe and America lacked quick forms of communication. Letters had always been used as the most common method of communication, however it took several days or even weeks for letters to be delivered. In cases of emergencies, letters were not ... • 32. Madeleine Leininger s Cultural Care Diversity Theory Nursing theory provides the basis, or framework, of the nursing profession and helps to identify the unique qualities of the profession. Without theory to explain the focus of the nursing profession, the profession may lose direction and its understanding of new knowledge to build upon the discipline (CCN, 2014). Theories must be applied in various settings such as bedside nursing, lead nurse management, and executive management. One of the issues that our local healthcare system has been dealing with is an increase in culturally diverse patients. There has been a recent surge in Sudanese and Hispanic populations seeking healthcare. The direct care staff treating these patients need to have resources available to provided culturally competent care. This includes things such as translators, translating devices such as the blue telephone , and culturally appropriate spiritual care. The theory chosen for analysis in this paper is Madeleine Leininger s Cultural Care Diversity Theory. Leinenger s theory looks at individual patients with relation to their cultural heritage. The pieces of her theory include culture, culture care, and culture care similarities and differences pertaining to transcultural human care (CCN, 2014). This middle range theory has the potential to influence nurses to provide culturally competent care to patients such as Hispanics. Summary Of People Make Choices Kameron Jarvis Mrs. Bowden English Two Honors 17 March 2016 People make Choices Introduction: From 1941 to 1945, The Holocaust took place in many countries, and millions of people died. Adolf Hitler came to power in 1933 in Germany, and had an Aryan Race which was the Nazi s idea of a master race. They thought that people with blonde hair and blue eyes were perfect. Adolf Hitler developed a plan called the Final Solution, which was to kill mostly Jewish people, but also anyone who did not fit his standards. Hitler rounded up all of the people he disliked, and he placed them in concentration camps and death camps. In these awful places, these prisoners got tortured not only physically, but also mentally. In France, many Jews were being deported to Germany, however; there was so many, that they had to stay in concentration camps in France. The survival rate in France was higher than any country in Europe during the Holocaust. Two very similar people who made very different choices were in France during the Holocaust. A priest named Andre Trocme made a good choice to save many Jews, and a SS officer named Klaus Barbie made a bad choice to kill thousands of Jews ( The Holocaust ). 1st body paragraph: Andre Trocme was born on April 7, 1901 in northern France. There is historical evidence that the Anglo Saxon Beowulf was composed, or more exactly transcribed, 900 years earlier than Grettir s Saga. According to Howell Chickering, Jr. there is only one piece of verifiable historical data in Beowulf, Hygelac s death in 521 during a raid on the Frisians (247). It is believed Grettir s Saga was originally written in Icelandic, sometime in the early 14th century (Killings 1). Beowulf s scop describes the fluctuation of oral composition by saying he, found new words, bound them up truly, / began to recite Beowulf s praise / a well made lay of glorious deed, / skillfully varied his matter and style (871a 874b). The time gap between the two works can be narrowed to 400 years if one considers Beowulf s transcription point in the 10th century, and Grettir s Saga in the 14th century. Chickering asserts Grettir s Saga and Beowulf, go back independently to a common original (254), and are not evolutionary partners. The plot outlined above illustrates the many close parallels of books 64 to 67 of Grettir s Saga and the first book of Beowulf. However, the underlying religious tenor shifts significantly from work to work. Grettir s Saga immediately identifies itself as a Christian tale through the introduction of a priest who, after becoming the stranger s sidekick, banishes the hero. • 38. Consciousness Is The Subjective Perception Of The Self Essay Consciousness has been referred to as the hard problem and still remains to be one of the most baffling conundrums of our generation. Consciousness is the subjective perception of the self. Consciousness allows us to feel happy, to solve problems, and to create memories. Consciousness has historically laid beyond the confines of science. Rene Descartes, a French philosopher, laid down the foundation of the study of consciousness by reflecting on what it meant to be conscious. Descartes was the one who introduced the idea of the mind as separate from the body, otherwise known as Cartesian Dualism. Descartes several theories sparked major controversy and discussion about consciousness. During the twentieth century, consciousness was seen as a taboo because usage of the word became overused and there was no precise way to describe it, so the word was banned . Consciousness is a psychological construct because of its difficulty to be observed and measured, which is why it can easily be seen as a taboo. Consciousness has gradually became easier to define, and because it is now accepted in the world of science, it has begun to address some of the most challenging questions of our time. Since consciousness is now at the forefront of neuroscientific research , neuroscientists are able to address daunting questions like that of vegetative patients and whether they are conscious, how to diagnose these patients, and whether or not there are therapeutic interventions available, ...
