2. Harry James Motivation
As soon as 1939 when he had joined Harry James music makers, a frenzy of female fans ensued.
Connie Haines, a singer who began working with Harry James at the time, recalled the reaction
of fans after Frank s first performance with James; After the first show, the screaming started in
the theater, and those girls came backstage. There were about twenty of them... it happened, it
was real, it was not a gimmick (Kaplan 76). The biggest height of the hysteria had to have been
in October of 1944: the Paramount/Columbus Day Riot. Around 30,000 of Sinatra s fans, many
of which were teenage girls nicknamed bobbysoxers, lined up for his show at the Paramount
Theatre in Times Square (Doyle). The amount let in was over the safe capacity and thousands
more waited outside for shows later on in the day. However, only a few hundred would leave
from the previous shows causing a frenzy to ensue outside; over 400 people from the police
department were stationed for the day s chaotic events (Kaplan 227).
There was obviously a strong passion within Sinatra s early fan base. This could be a result of an
intimate connection Frank emitted to them. Writer Francis Davis ... Show more content on

Frank Sinatra made moves to confirm his desire through his life due to an unpredictable temper:
many were of an violent nature. Early on while working with Tommy Dorsey, drummer Buddy
Rich was fed up with having to adhere to Sinatra s slow ballads and called Sinatra a son of a b
wop bast (Kaplan 117). At this, Frank threw a glass water pitcher at Rich s head, just missing
him. Rich tackled Sinatra and they were in a fist brawl. As a result Dorsey kept Rich and sent
Sinatra home for that night s show. Frank ended up hiring some Hoboken friends to punch Rich in
the face a few nights later (Kaplan 118). It was reported in the news, but it was unknown to the
public who had attacked Buddy

3. The Nazi Regime Depended More on Broad Popularity Than...
The Nazi regime depended more on broad popularity than terror in the years 1933 39.
Throughout the years 1933 1939, the Nazis consolidated and strengthened their power over the
German people in a number of ways. The debate as to whether they depended on their broad
popularity or on terror has been argued by historians ever since. The view given by Gellately in
Source 4 strongly agrees with that in the question, whereas Evans, in Source 5 combines the terror
and popularity aspects of the regime and says that the German people perceived terror as being
popular. Johnson presents the view that the selective nature of Nazi terror created a sense of
security for German citizens who should have nothing to worry about. However, on any level it...

Because of this, the Nazi government arranged the production of the People s Receiver (a
cheaper version of the radio) and by 1939 70% of German homes had a radio which was the
highest national figure in the world. It was benefits like these that gave the German people a
genuine reason to support the regime. This was added to by the reduction in unemployment
throughout the period which made many people think that the dictatorship would, in the long term
have a positive impact on the country and the position of Germany on an international scale. A
further argument within this controversy is that the regime relied on the selective nature of terror
in the regime between 1933 1939. Johnson in Source 6 says that Nazi terror lies in its selective
nature . Though it is undoubtedly true that Nazi terror had a selective nature, Johnson goes on to
say that the regime dismissed expressions of non conformity and mild disobedience on the part of
other citizens . He is therefore implying that the Nazis viewed active opposition as a threat but
didn t see non conformity as an act of opposition. However, this can be argued as members of the
Swing Youth were punished and Himmler and Heinrich actually wanted to put the ringleaders into
concentration camps. However, the Swing Youth didn t politically oppose the Nazi regime but
simply wanted to avoid the German hit tunes at the time in order to listen to jazz and

4. What Is The Theme Of The Blue Bowl By Jane Glaser
Death whirls around us, handpicking our inevitable fate. Some seek it; some ignorantly fall upon
it.No writer conveys an equal perspective on death. Both Elton Glaser and Jane Kenyon use
similes, onomatopoeia and imagery to illustrate their opinions. In Smoking , Glaser pinpoints the
widely eclectic range of sentiments that derives from an artificial form of death. However in The
Blue Bowl Kenyon focuses more on the subject of closure and reacting to death.
Elton Glaser uses similes to warn us of the long term consequences of smoking, whereas Jane
Kenyon uses them to express her opinion on closure. In the middle of the poem, Glaser uses
similes to describe the burning fire at the tip of the cigarette and how it s Turning red as a warning

Glaser calls attention to the speaker s fascination of the flame of his lighter through the
descriptions of it s Boldface of fire and the rage and sway of it . This fascination is also brought
up when describing the blaze in detail raw blue at the base, and a slope of gold, a touch to the
packed tobacco . In contrast, he also uses negative imagery to detail the process of how smoking
destroys the body. He introduces a destructive mood to the poem when referring to the way that
smoke gets To the black crust of lungs , the Veins tight and the heart slow both due to the lack of
blood flow. Glaser, therefore, introduces the theme of decay and death, as the poem progresses.
Kenyon uses imagery at the very beginning of the poem to give color to the cat by mentioning
his long red fur , the white feathers between his toes and his long, not to say aquiline, nose , a
trait that defines his visage. She also uses it to illustrate the fragile and gloomy mood at the
beginning of the poem. Specifying Barehanded, we scraped sand and gravel back into the whole ,
Kenyon highlights the vulnerability of the scene. The fact that they were Silent, the rest of the day

5. The Uas Control Segment Architecture (Ucs) Is A System
The UAS Control Segment Architecture (UCS) is a system interface originally focused on
developing interoperability software for UAS ground control stations (Department of Defense,
2013). UCS standards have expanded beyond the original intent of a common open architecture for
UAS greater than 20 pounds; the maritime Program Executive Office (PEO) is exploring USC in
many of its unmanned platforms (Department of Defense, 2013). UCS is able to eliminate the stove
pipe acquisition process with the adoption of common standards for the ground control segments
which provides interoperabilityas well as reducing life cycle costs (Blais, 2016). UCS
interoperability addresses the following:

The goal of JCUA is to provide a reference baseline system so as to compare it to other open
architectures and find differences in standards, terminology, and content (Blais, 2016). JCUA is that
standard that open systems can be measured against; the JCUA facilitates analysis of programs
for interoperability (Department of Defense, 2013). One example is terminologies, if like

law; this includes UAS (Koester, Williams, Powers, Vincent, 2010). Therefore, information
technology must be evaluated for interoperability compliance, the evaluation tool is the NRKPP

exchange and interoperability (Koester et al., 2010). JCAU supports DOD initiatives

6. Post-Christian Pastors Essay
The question remains, how should we engage Millennials? Once they have accepted Christ and
have come into a relationship with Christ, how do we further their love and devotion for God and
allow true discipleship to take place? First and foremost one must understand it is the job of the
pastor to start the process. The pastor is responsible for the presence, growth, and quality of the
theology that drives the actions of the congregation and many evangelical pastors today are
purveyors of shoddy theology. As leaders and ministers in the church, it starts with us. It starts with
ministers getting into the Word and preaching genuine messages that are Christ centered and lifts
up the name of Jesus. There are examples that Robert Weathers... Show more content on

Churches that reach postmodern unbelievers advocate incarnation, contextualization, and
participation. If the church wants to truly reach a Post Christian world, new methods are required.
As one pastor stated, it is about translation, not transformation of the message. The message never
changes, but our methods must. If they do not understand it, how can we expect them to apply it?
We all know to well, information without application leads to frustration and anyone who is
frustrated will not last in the process. It is important the church provide a safe place for millennial s
to grow their relationship with Christ. Biblically we do that through an Acts 2 model.
They devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread
and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the
apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and
possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the
temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily
those who were being saved (Acts 2:42 47

8. Assignment 1.1 Personal Power Profile
The assessment that I chose for this assignment was from the box 5.1 Personal Power Profile.
This assessment is composed of a list of statements that describe possible behaviors of leaders in
work organizations. The end results are based on the response for each item. For example,
strongly disagree is equal to 1 point, disagree is equal to 2 points, neither agree nor disagree is
equal to 3 points, agree is equal to 4 points and strongly agree is equal to 5 points. Consequently, I
end up with more points on referent power4.5, followed by legitimate power 4.0, and expert power

The amount of legitimate power someone has depends on the importance of the position she or he
occupies and the willingness to grant authority to the person in that position. The benefits of this
type of power are that incorporates weight of the entire organization, effective for gaining
obedience, helps large organizations function effectively. The costs are that lowers follower task
performance, lowers follower task satisfaction, and may become less effective overtime.
Expert power is based on the person, not on the position. This type of power influences people
because leaders supply needed information and skills.
What have you learned from completing this exercise? What I learned about this exercise is that I
confirmed my leadership style. I like to practice what I preach, as I do not expect others to do
what I do not do. I treat others with respect and courtesy, all the time, no matter what! I think that
honesty is the best policy, so I like to keep my team inform, and I do not pretend to have all of the
answers, I do apologize if I make a mistake. Gaining followers trust is most important to me, so I
always make sure that I communicate with them with valid/proven facts. However, I think that the
legitimate power comes into play when it s about bossing around people about their duties and

When manufactures/retailers put the word tactical in the same sentence with a knife or firearm

images of SWAT teams, soldiers, and of tattered and gritty men, and woman taking the fight to
the enemy. This is why many retailers use props to sell their items. Camouflage is big today, and
many retailers use it to put pictures in your mind. There you are in a tactical situation covered
head to toe, in tactical camouflage, teeth barred, and the knife they want to sell you clutched in
your teeth, and this of course is the images they want you to see, so they can dip into your purse

12. America s Downward Spiral Summary
America s Downward Spiral
In recent years, the economy in the United States has been in what most would see as a
recession. American people differ in the way they react to a recession. Some, such as Michael
Moore, feel it becomes a downward spiral as big business and it s stockholders gain more money
and power, and it s workers gain less money and stability.
With a loss of stability for the American worker there is a fear of losing their health benefits,
social security, pension plan, and most of all, their job. Moore s reaction to this big business take
over was to create several documentaries, Roger and Me, Pets or Meat: The Return to Flint, and
The Big One. Along with Moore s reaction to this recession there were several ... Show more

Nike owns factories in Indonesia where they pay their workers forty cents an hour. Johnson
Controls moved from Milwaukee to Mexico, because a half million dollar profit in three years was
not enough for them, they wanted to increase their profit further. (Moore)
As these large companies downsize and close they push hundreds of people out of jobs. This
forces middle class to live below the standards they had been so accustomed to, this is a term not
many are familiar with called downward mobility. This was outlined by Katherine Newman as she
wrote about David Patterson who had a very stable career in the computer industry and one day lost
it and was unable to find work. This forced the family to move from their nice neighborhood to
an apartment. Broke and distressed beyond imagining, the family found a small apartment in a
modest section of a nearby town. (Newman) This being the light side of what happens to those
forced out of work unable to find a new job. Jo Goodwin Parker shares her life story, the ultimate
low, poverty. Poverty means insects in your food, in your nose, in your eyes, and crawling over
you when you sleep. (Parker)
Poverty and downward mobility are unfortunately not the only problems striking the American
working class. It is fact that some jobs are simply not needed anymore. That of the laborer is just
depleting. Some might even call it a dying breed (LaFevre 1) Mike LaFevre is part of the working
class that labors day in and

13. How Does The Use Of Culture Affect Emily Bronte s Character
As the novel Wuthering Heights progresses, Emily Bronte develops much of the story through the
characters. Bronte s use of culture, geographical, and physical surroundings, manipulate the
characters psychological and moral standings. Especially apparent in Catherine, Emily Bronte s use
of culture and physical surroundings creates a psychological split within Catherine s character.
From the beginning of the novel, Bronte establishes a cultural paradox that directly reflects
Catherine s personality; the ambiance of Wuthering Heightsas opposed to Thrushcross Grange.
Wuthering Heights being wild and passionate in nature, yet Thrushcross Grange eloquent and
publicly sophisticated. Through the novel we see Catherine s character constantly at battle with
these wild and eloquent sides. Bronte emphasizes this when she acts violently towards Edgar after
she has argued with Heathcliff. This proves an example of how she could not conceal her wilder
behavior when her two characters collide.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hello there, bitch, the librarian s voice echoes through an indistinct dark chamber. The man

15. The Social Causes Of Social Solutions To Climate Change
Climate change is one of the most harmful things to humanity because it affects everyone who lives
on Earth. Though there are social problems, such as war or racism, that may affect certain groups
of people, even those with no human contact are affected by climate change in some way.
Although part of climate change is caused by natural forces, humans unquestionably do contribute
to the effects of climate change. As a whole society, we all impact climate change. This cannot
be blamed on an individual and their choices. Those people didn t chose to be affected by
climate change in any way. They did not have free choice in whether or not to contribute to
climate change. It wasn t a few people that added on to the effects due to selfishness or cruelty
and people don t contribute because of psychological or physical issues within themselves. It is all
of our combined actions that add up and have the effects of the climate change we see today.
In order to combat a social issue, we must have social solutions to this problem. It is essential for
us to come together and fight against warming and climate change. The less we blame others and
start acting upon this issue ourselves, we will have a bigger impact on climate change quicker and
more efficiently. Though we have been dealing with the human influence on climate change for
centuries, especially since the Industrial Revolution, we can still lessen the effects. We can t
expect the problem to go away if only a few people decide to

17. The Perfect Nature Of Love And Sonnet 130 By William...
The English, or Shakespearian, sonnet has the simplest and most flexible patterns of all
sonnets. It consists of three quatrains of alternation rhyme and an ending couplet which
concludes the sonnet. William Shakespeare is known for his works such as Romeo and Juliet,
but he is well known for his sonnets. William Shakespeare s sonnet 116 and sonnet 130 describe
love in a different way; however, the sonnets center around the same idea. Sonnet 116 is about
love in its most ideal form. The first four lines, or the first quatrain, show that love is constant
and will not alter when it alteration finds (l. 3). The lines that comes after that say true love is
indeed an ever fixed mark (l. 5) that can make it through anything. Shakespeare claims that we
can measure love, whose worth s unknown (ll. 7 8), only to a degree or not in an understandable
way. The perfect nature of love is unshakeable throughout time, and it remains so even to the
edge of doom, (l. 12) or death. In the couplet, he declares that if he is wrong about the constant,
unmovable nature of love then he must take back his writings on love. He states that if he has
judged love in the wrong way, no individual has ever loved. Sonnet 130 is about a mistress who
does not have much beauty. Shakespeare compares her to things that are supposed to be beautiful.
This comparison tells the reader that her eyes are nothing like the sun (l. 1). He also says that her
lips are not as coral; compared to white show,

19. The Nervous System And Peripheral Nervous Systems
The nervous system has three general functions: a sensory function, an interpretative function and a
motor function. Sensory nerves gather information from inside the body and the outside
environment. The nerves then carry the information to central nervous system (CNS). Nervous
tissue consists of two main types of cells: neurons and neuroglia. Neurons also so known as nerve
cells ) transmit nerve impulses that move information around the body. Central Nervous Systemand
Peripheral Nervous System are Identified as the two major groups of nervous system organs while
CNS = brain spinal cord and PNS nerves that extend from the brain (cranial nerves) and spinal cord
(spinal nerves). Sensory receptors respond to stimuli and transmit data about them to the brain. In
the skin, receptors detect touch, pressure, vibration, temperature, and pain. Elsewhere in the body,
more specialized receptors detect light (see How the eye works), sound (see The mechanism of
hearing), smell, and taste. The body nervous system detects the changes affecting the body, make
decisions, and stimulate muscles or glands to respond. The responses counteract the effects of the
changes, where the nervous system helps maintain homeostasis. Neurons vary in size and shape and
also differ in the lengths and sizes because of their axons and dendrites. A neuronhas 4 basic parts:
the dendrites, the cell body which is also called the soma, the axon and the axon terminal. Dendrites

22. Italy Adopted A Realist Strategy
It is based on a view of the individual as primarily fearful, selfish and power seeking. Individuals
organize in states, each of which acts in pursuit of its own national interest (Mingst and Arreguin
Toft, 2014: 79)
In light of this definition, it is possible to state that Italy adopted a realist strategy in non acting
against Libya. In the lack of reaction and in not taking a strong line of action towards the African
country, the aim of the Italian policy makers was to preserve the country s own interests. Policy
makers emphasized the abstention from opening fire on Libyan forces as part of Rome s strategy of
smoothing its role in the Libyan intervention.
Although Italy was involved in the U.S. European intervention in Libya, they did not actually
attack the troops of their close ally, Moammar Gaddafi. Rome s continuous insistence on
highlighting that it was both part of the intervention but had abstained from playing an aggressive
role against Gaddafi was a strategy to allow Italy to continue to balance the rebels in the east with
the relationship with Gaddafi in the west of Libya.
Italy had too many interests in Libya to pick one side and react consequently.
As previously stated, Italy s business, energy and national security interests would be directly
impacted by the happenings in Libya.

which a kid learns to make use of the toilet appropriately. As in lots of areas of kid development,
kids must reach a positive age or be in the proper setting or situation before they are prepared to

25. Othello, The Duchess Of Malfi, And Paradise Lost
Elizabeth Andrews
May 9, 2015
Professor Earley
Final: Long Essay
While reading Othello, The Duchess of Malfi, and Paradise Lost there is a noticeable theme
throughout all of them. Throughout each of the three works there is at least one character that is
considered to be a villain. A villain is a cruel character whose evil actions and motives are
important to the main plot of the story. The three characters that are considered to be villains
include: Iago from Othello, Bosola from The Duchess of Malfi, and Satan from Paradise Lost.
In the play, Othello, written by William Shakespeare, the character that shows the most
characteristics of a villain is Iago. The downfall of Othello is caused by Iago who is a
manipulative liar. Iago is the main villain of the story and manipulates Othello and most of the
other characters. Iago s manipulative personality allows him to advance in his evil scheme
leading to Othello s downfall. Iago worked alongside Othello and Cassio, Othello s lieutenant,
for a long time and used his knowledge of their character to manipulate them. When Iago said,
And I of whom his eyes have seen the proof. At Rhodes, at Cyprus, and at other grounds he
claimed to have been witness to both Othello and Cassio s weaknesses (I.i.25 26). He knew that
he had the ability to manipulate them, and this foreshadowed his use of knowledge to ruin them.

26. The Visualization Of Fear In Brent Staples s Just Walk On...
Fear is a quintessential human emotion. Some people live devoid of joy, happiness, and
pleasure, but no one escapes the experience of fear. The visualization of danger is greatly
impacted by the many stereotypes society has shaped. The formation of these stereotypes can
affect the actions of both the perpetrator and the victim. In Brent Staples essay, Just Walk on By,
the author describes his experiences, feelings, issues, stereotypes, and reactions towards the
discrimination he has faced being a black man in public surroundings. Staples describes several
different personal experiences of when he feels that he had been judged or discriminated against
by other people, based on the color of his skin and how that contributed to his overall
appearance. He reveals how the actions taken towards him were because of the fear linked to his
labeled stereotypes of being a rapist, gangster, or mugger. Staples feels fearful and does not have
the same freedom as other people. Staples has many reasons to be afraid. He discusses his own
experiences on how he is stereotyped. In the essay, Staples describes himself as a tall, young
black man who has graduated and is educated. He also mentions that he is a soft guy who would
not even harm a chicken with a knife, so he could never do that to a woman. Staples talks about
how people think of him as a bad person, which he is not. In one case, Staples states, It was clear
that she thought herself the quarry of a mugger, a rapist or worse (1). Even though he is walking
a clear distance at night behind a white woman, she is afraid of him. People stereotype him
because he is an African American and he looks intimidating. He is not treated fairly and is
always being discriminated against. If Staple s first victim thought he was a rapist or a mugger,
she might go on and tell other people that a mugger or rapist who is black followed her, and she
got away from him. Later on, other people start to think he is dangerous, and they could get
violent with him. The author feels fearful because, at any moment, people can hurt him if they
suspect him of being a bad person. He admits to feeling unsafe and being discriminated against in
public places. He does not feel accepted among people.

27. Theme Of Religion In The Dreams Of Trespass
In the novel, Dreams of Trespass, religion plays a major role in how culture, society, and politics
work together to affect how Morocco and different characters are displayed. As all of these
characteristics are played out throughout the story it conveys the different feelings of the character
towards each subject matter.
The religion influences culture by women s apparel, women s restrictions in daily life, and the
different beauty products a woman may wear. In Islamic culture women are naturally supposed to
be completely covered when out in public. For example, in Dreams of Trespass women would
dress with the veil and a haik, or djellaba, depending on what age and status they were. Fatima s
mother thought material was difficult to breath in and heavy, so she vowed to replace it with a
tiny triangular black veil made of sheer silk chiffon (118). Because Fatima s mother wanted a new
form of clothing, it went against the traditional views and values. From this conflict arose the
difference between tradition and new customs in daily life. By discovering this new custom, it
allowed for a little more freedom in Fatima s mother s life. Another key element in how Islam
defines culture is the restrictions of women. Some rules that were stated was that they could not
go into certain spaces and rooms at specific times, and they could not go outside the walls unless
they were accompanied by a male or it was a special occasion. Chama was faced with these
challenges when the conflict

Prokaryotes were the first organisms on earth. Millions of years later, eukaryotes would exist
through evolution. Prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells are different in regards to structure and size.
Prokaryotic cells are not as complex as eukaryotic cells. To begin with, prokaryotic cells do not
have a nucleus. The DNAis enclosed in the capsule of the prokaryotic cell. In contrast, the
eukaryotic cell has a nucleus which contains the DNA. The eukaryotic cell is much larger than the
prokaryotic cell. The eukaryotic cell is roughly a thousand times the size of a prokaryotic cell
(Singh Cundy, A., Shin, G., 2015). The prokaryotic cell stores its DNA within the cytosol, inside
the capsule. The capsule protects the shape and structure of the cell. Inside the cell wall is the
plasma membrane, which contains the plasma membrane. Within the plasma membrane is the
cytosol and ribosomes. Attached to the cell is the flagellum. The flagellum is a whip like tail that

30. Nickel And Dimed Reflection
Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting by in America written by Barbara Ehrenreich, is a book
composed of Ehrenreich s experiences working minimum wage in Florida, Maine, and Minnesota.
Ehrenreich s sheds light onto what it is like for most minimum wage workers and brings insight
into what it truly is like trying to make it on $6 $7 hourly wage. Nickel and Dimed does a
wonderful job of giving insight to the everyday lives of the working class and somewhat
understanding their lives better. Before reading this book, I had my share of thoughts on the
working class based on what I knew from growing up with family members and even my father
being apart of the working class. This book reinforced a lot ideas that I had about the working
class and opened my eyes into what it means to live above the poverty line.

Throughout the book Ehrenreich s co workers all seem to struggle, such as the trouble with
housing in Key West and healthcare in Maine. Having a place to live, eating properly, and
healthcare seem to be the biggest cause of concern within the working class. Most of the jobs
that she worked, the workers did not have healthcare packages or benefits. So it wasn t
uncommon for them to have trouble trying to manage their health and struggle to pay for
medication, let alone a visit to the doctor. Without healthcare and a lack of proper diet (in Maine

31. Fastcat Benchmarking Job
Benchmarking jobs was a critical step in developing grades and ranges. Some of the job
descriptions in the survey data did not clearly relate to the jobs in FastCat, which caused us to
avoid those particular survey jobs. Due to these discrepancies among the job descriptions, we
decided to evaluate the descriptions that most clearly matched the FastCat jobs. For example, in the
Business and Marketing pay structure, the Administrative Aide requires very basic qualifications,
such as a high school diplomaand competencies in basic skills, such as word processing and simple
administrative tasks. We felt that this most closely identified with the Office Support 1 position
because its description involved simple word processing tasks as well... Show more content on

We looked at organizations that were similar to ours. Factors that we included are the size of the
organization, the type of work done in the company, their profitability, and their percentage of
base pay to total compensation. We chose organizations that were either small or medium sized
that ideally were software companies. Large companies were also selected, as practically we are
still competing with large companies for similar positions, and the market continues to expand in
such a way that many smaller companies are merging to large size. We also looked at the
profitability of the organization. FastCat s ROA value is 0.24. We chose to look at organizations
that were either of the same level or higher, up to a value of around 5. Choosing all of these
particular factors allowed us to benchmark against organizations that are likely in a similar financial
situation as FastCat, making them appropriate organizations with which to

32. The Right Of Free Speech
Throughout American history, the foundation on which American democratic principles are based,
has been repeatedly tested. In the 1700s, the right of free speech was challenged when President
John Adams proposed the Alien and Sedition Acts. Adams attempted to stop the Democratic
Republicans such as Thomas Jefferson, from criticizing government decisions. Similarly, during
the Civil War President Abraham Lincoln challenged freedom of the press when he took action to
restrict the printing of military news. Lincoln ordered his generals in the field to control the press
and crack down on speech critical of his administration to limit dissent against the war effort.
However, one historical era stands out as a decidedly pivotal test of... Show more content on

Twentieth century U.S. history saw two major episodes of repression and violence against
communists and leftist radicals, that occurred approximately three decades apart. During the early
part of the 1920s, America entered its first period of extreme anti communist sentiment, the First
Red Scare. After the successful Bolshevik Revolution in Russia in 1917, American citizens began
to fear the threat of communist influence at home. At the end of WWI, American workers unhappy
with wages and spiralling inflation, launched widespread sometimes violent strikes with the
support of growing labor unions. Some of these unions called for government takeover of private
industries. For instance, railroad workers called for the national government to take permanent
control of the railroad system. The growing waves strikes signalled a period of extreme civil
unrest; American citizens became frightened that they would face a revolution similar to the one
that had just taken place in Russia. In response, Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer, in an effort to
gain the attention of American voters to support his presidential aspirations, launched a nationwide
crusade against anyone he identified as having leftist views. Under Palmer s leadership, thousands
of Americans were arrested for taking part in alleged subversion, and thousands of others were
stripped of their civil liberties. In violation of

If someone doesn t have enough electrolytes in their system then they can t function. Electrolytes
are important because they are what certain cells such as nerve, heart, and muscle use to sustain
voltages across their cell membranes. They are also what cells use to carry electrical impulses, as
in nerve impulses and muscle contractions, across themselves and to other cells. Kidneys work to
keep the electrolyte concentration in blood constant in spite of changes in the body. Again, when
exercising, the body loses most electrolytes in the sweat; sports drinks which contain sodium
chloride or potassium chloride are consumed after the workout to provide the body with the
energy it just lost. They also contain added sugar and flavorings to the drinks to give extra energy
and to make the drink taste better. People also drink other drinks after a workout because they feel
that it obtains the energy more effectively.
Sports drinks are used to receive energy while doing an active, or athletic, event. There are three
popular types of sports drinks: isotonic (average athlete), hypotonic (low perspiration athletes;
jockeys and gymnasts), and hypertonic (long distance runners that need the extra carbohydrates
and electrolytes). Isotonic sports drinks quickly replace fluids lost by sweating and supply a boost
of carbohydrates. Hypotonic sports drinks quickly replace fluid lost. Hypertonic sports drinks

36. The Argument Of The Chinese Room ( CR )
The Chinese Room (CR) is a thought experiment intended to prove that a computer cannot have a
mental life with a strong sense of intelligence alike to one that humans possess because a computer
does not have a genuine understanding. Rather, a computer is a mere simulator of understanding,
and by extension, a simulator of intelligence. According to John Searle, because computers lack a
true understanding they are rendered incapable of possessing mental life as we know and
experience it (Searle 2004). In the following paper, I intend to explain and philosophically examine
John Searle s argument of CR and will then proceed to reject his theory based on a series of
objections. I will do this by examining the concept of human intelligence through a filmic analogy,
put forth the Systems Reply objection, and examine how the CR argument is foregrounded in
anthropocentric bias that presupposes only humans are capable of true intelligence. Overall, I argue
that CR fails to convincingly argue that only humans can possess a human intelligence because it is
an argument based more on intuitive claims, than sound reasoning. As promised, I begin by
outlining the main crux of the Chinese Room argument. If you imagine a sealed room where
through a slot you can submit questions written in Chinese and you can receive answers in Chinese,
your inclination is more than likely going to be to assume that whomever resides within the room
understands, and is able to, communicate in Chinese.

Still these incidents were considered minor in comparison to the sandal of 1998. Nowhere has the
disgrace of doping been felt more dramatically than in the Tour de France, the world s most

The scandal started on July 8 when Festina s team masseur, Willy Voet crossed the French

the Societe du Tour de France, nobody would have thought that he could be stopped. Voet was

43. Influenza Virus Essay
There are different ways a molecule can be endocytosed into cell. Rust and colleagues focused on
two different mechanisms: clathrin mediated endocytosis and clathrin and caveolin independent
endocytosis. Using real time visualization of the influenza virus, Rust and colleagues were able to
observe these two pathways in action. They hypothesized that without inhibiting endogenous
endocytic mechanisms of the cell, the influenza virus would use both types of pathways to enter a
cell.
Multiple assays were performed in this article. Firstly, the authors fluorescently labeled clathrin with
EYFP and transfected their construct into their cells, creating a stable cell line. Figure 1 exists to
demonstrate the efficacy of their fluorescently tagged clathrin construct. They first produced an
immunofluorescent image ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The de novo formation of CCPs induced by viral binding suggests a manipulation of the clathrin
signaling pathway. Since clathrin recruitment is initiated by AP2 after AP2 detects PI(4,5)P and
cargo, the virus could be interacting with any one of these three elements in clathrin induced
endocytosis. However, as the authors point out, influenza binds to sialic acids on the cell surface
and not normal cargo receptors that interact with AP2. So how, then, would AP2 be coerced into
recognizing the virus as cargo on the cell membrane and hence recruit clathrin? They suggest there
is an induction of curvature on the membrane perhaps involving amphiphysin. A logical next step
would be to mutate amphiphysin and/or other similar BAR domains, infect cells with a tagged
influenza virus and transfected fluorescent clathrin, and determine whether or not de novo CCPs
can be formed. Comparing this assay to a control using wild type amphiphysin, one could draw a
conclusion as to the extent of influence BAR domains have on viral entry and clathrin

Before diving into the changes, it is necessary to understand why Osama bin Laden orchestrated
such an elaborate attack on the United States. Osama bin Laden, although once an American

condemns American support for Israel and the billions it received in aid. Moreover, the United
States being a foreign democratic power has no right to enter the House of Islam as it did during
the Persian Gulf War in 1991 with a military presence in Egypt. Politically and socially, the

Less is More
According to the Census Bureau, the average American home is about 2,600 square feet. While
national home size continues to rise, there is a growing population of Americans in favor of small
and tiny houses. Reality TV shows including Tiny House Hunting, Tiny House Building, Tiny
House Nation, and Tiny House, Big Living, have brought national attention to the movement. A
typical tiny house falls between 100 and 400 square feet. The tiny house movement is one possible
solution for individual financial and environmental concerns. Most tiny homeowners also cite a
simpler lifestyle as a main factor for choosing to live tiny.
One of the greatest benefits of living in a tiny house is the relatively low cost. The average tiny
house costs around $50,000 but can cost significantly more or less depending on building
materials used, location, and luxuries included. Forbes estimates the cost at $200 to $400 per
square foot. This makes tiny houses a great option for people who can t afford a downpayment on
a larger home, but would rather be putting their money towards owning something rather than
paying rent. DIY homebuilders accumulate expenses over time throughout the building process
rather than all at once, which works well as long as you have somewhere else to live in the
meantime. Tiny houses are often seen as a way to pay off loans or live debt free with the
opportunity to spend less time working.

When we create something, it s always challenging to reveal it to others. No matter how big or

The security dilemma can be used explain and predict ethnic conflict within a given state. Posen s
argument is supported by the belief that the basic tenets of realism provide a clear view of the
security dilemma and its relationship with ethnic conflict. I believe the security dilemma in general
is largely based in realisttheory, and therefore fails to view international relations fairly. I believe
that liberalism offers important insight into dealing with conflict that Posen fails to address.
Realist theory believes that one states military improvements are undistinguishable as offensive or

Cooperation can occur between groups, if they can see the security it will provide. Mutual
agreements can be reached by ethnic groups to cooperate prior to conflict, which can secure their
self interest.
Posen feels agreements are often reached after conflicts have already began with cease fires. He
also contends a cease fire only occurs when one side feels successful and the opposing side fears
the result of continued conflict. Posen argues that a cease fire does not mean peace, and often
comes too far along in the conflict, proving international organizations are unable to diminish the
security dilemma. This idea further presupposes the ideas of realist. Realist are traditionally
skeptical of the ability of international organizations to act as planned. Realist feel that states will
not place their self interest the hands of other countries.
I contend that international organizations can play a major role in ameliorating conflict between
ethnic groups. If an international organization, acting as a mediating third party, can take steps to
clear misperceptions between competing groups, conflict can be avoided. Also international
organizations provide other countries the opportunity to take collective action.

53. Methicillin-Resistant Mythoiccus Aureus (MRSA)
Antibiotic resistance which can be defined as the ability of bacteria and other microorganisms to
resist the effects of an antibiotic to which they were once sensitive.8 Antibiotic resistance mainly
results from misuse of antibiotics which can be categorized as intensive and extended use of
antibiotics in human and veterinary treatments where antibiotics were not required and improper
disposal of antibiotics in both hospital environment and community which in turn results an
environmental impact too.
Among the resistant bacterial strains Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) is the
major resistant pathological strain which is resistant to almost all antibiotics available in the world
in turn very difficult to cure and life threatening. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Intrinsic resistance is achieved by spontaneous gene mutation through replication where acquired
resistance results as an adaptation technique when bacteria in contact with antibiotic. Pathogenic
bacteria can gain resistance through several mechanisms such as acquire modification of active site
of the bacteria in turn results in reduction in the efficacy of binding of the drug, direct modification
or destruction of antibiotic by enzymes produced by bacteria or efflux of antibiotic from the
bacterial cell through efflux pumps. Bacterial species accomplish spreading the resistance through
horizontal gene transfer mechanisms such as transformation, transduction and conjugation via
plasmids.
Antibiotic resistance has evolved as a result of the interactions between bacteria and antibiotic after
an antibiotic exposure. Bacterial species are capable of adapting to new antibiotic as simply as they
adapt to new environments due to their amazing genomic plasticity. This in turn results antibiotic
resistance to be very dynamic and unpredictable. Every year, almost 100,000 Americans die from
antibiotic resistant infections acquired from hospitals, largely because of the reduced effectiveness
of existing drugs, due to the development and propagation of drug resistance
