World War 1 Summary
Setting the Stage for World War One History identifies the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
at Sarajevo on June 28, 1914, as the direct cause of World War One. Nonetheless, historians are in
agreement that there were many factors contributing to the conflict between the Great powers,
resulting in a large scale war to break out. The second industrialization also known as the
Technological Revolution from 1870 1914 cultivated industrial societies to emerge and leading to new
forms of states and of diplomatic and military alignments (Barzun). These military alignments were
later to be known as The Great Powers of Europe. The Great Powers were divided into two alliances:
The Triple Alliance between Germany, Italy Austria Hungry established in 1882, and The Triple
Entente between Britain, Russia France established in 1907 (Tonge). There were three main rivalries
between the powers: Germany France over the Alsace Lorraine territory (5,067 square miles of land
that was ceded by France to Germany in 1871 after the Franco German War), Russia Austria over the
Balkans peninsula in Southeast Europe (a desirable territory for its strategically vital geographic
location surrounded by four seas: the Black Sea, the Mediterranean, the Adriatic and the Aegean, and
situated at the crossroads of three major empires Ottoman, Russian and Austro Hungarian), and
Britain Germany over naval and economic power. In the years prior to the war, military spending

Philosophy And Bertrand Russell s The Nature Of Philosophy
In The Nature of Philosophy by Bertrand Russell, it is said that if the study of philosophy has any
value at all for others than students of philosophy, it must be only indirectly, through its effects upon
the lives of those who study it . As such, the real value of philosophy comes from its study, and this
study should be compulsory in schools. This is due to its teaching of logic, rationality, and critical
thinking. This is also due to the course s teaching of the value of ethics. Finally, philosophy should be
made a compulsory subject as it has benefits that will positively affect a student s performance outside
of high school, in post secondary education and beyond.
The importance of logic and rationality in life should not be understated, and as philosophy teaches
logic to its students, it should thusly be made mandatory. A rather common sentiment is that too many
people are taken advantage of because of their lack of critical thinking, logic and deductive reasoning .
With a prevalence of advertisements and large figures in the media trying to persuade others to believe
them, a mandatory philosophy class would teach students how to effectively apply logic so that they
will no longer be taken advantage of when facing premises in the media and in the world around them
that have less to do with a sound argument and more to do with rhetorical devices. Rick Lewis writes
that philosophy is based upon logic and reasoning, and that learning how to use logic is critical

Inborn Errors Of Metabolism
Inborn Errors of Metabolism are group of rare disorders characterized by metabolic pathways
abnormalities leading to underproduction of necessary metabolites. One such disorder is Maple Syrup
Urine Disease (MSUD) otherwise known as Branched chain Ketoaciduria, a dangerous condition in
which over saturation of amino acids in the blood can lead to toxicity progressing to encephalopathy,
neurodegeneration, coma or respiratory failure. the etiology of the genetic disease, the mechanism of
the genetic disease (if known) MSUD results from a malfunction of the branched chain alpha ketoacid
dehydrogenase complex (BCKD). This complex produces enzymes necessary for the proper
breakdown of common amino acids such as valine, leucine and isoleucine found ... Show more

Some studies have found that the level of incidence for ashkenazi jews, Mennonite population and the
amish is greater than in the average population. (http://www.annclinlabsci.org/content/41/2/167.full)
Detection of the disease is first identified via clinical symptomatology namely: smell of maple syrup
in the earwax about 12 hours after birth, irritability or difficulty feeding present two to three days after
birth , movements resembling fencing or bicycling present four to five days after birth, coma or
respiratory failure by day seven or ten after birth. To diagnose the disorder within the first couple of
days urine could be tests of abnormally large amounts of ketones (day 3 4), the concentration of
branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) and allo isoleucine can be checked within the first day after the
infant had an intake of protein. During BCAA testing leucine levels are most important to note as they
will be elevated in MSUD, while isoleucine and valine could be non specific. Allo isoleucine is the
more definitive indicator of MSUD. (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK1319/). An increase in
leucine leads to a decreased in other amino acids such as: tryptophan, histidine, glutamine, glutamate,
alanine, tyrosine. Testing for the levels of these amino acids along with BCAAs could indicate that the

The Good Old Days are Blurred Essay example
From time to time those that have come before us such as our moms, dads, and grandparents will
reminisce on the good old days. A time when there was no Internet so one had to read the newspaper
for updates, write rather than type during class, go to the library for research, knock for a friend, use
snail mail, etc. For me such thoughts have made the understanding of the phrase, the good old days
quite blurred. The fact is the so called good old days was a time that seems astronomically different,
slow paced, and quite frankly dull compared to today. That is, since I can remember the Internet has
always been apart of my life, practically advancing its growth as I have grown. The Internet has
revolutionized today s society changing our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Communication and networking for any purpose such as work, friendship, relationship, interests,
employment, business, etc. has drastically changed with the Internet. It has become a much easier,
quicker, and more effective process.
Another example of the benefits of the Internet is that of information acquisition and preservation.
Back in the good old days acquiring information about an unfamiliar subject, or learning anything for
that matter required a knowledgeable individual, a class, or a trip to the library. However, since the
birth of the Internet and the development of Google by Larry Page and Sergey Brin all that has
changed drastically. With Google we now have the ability to search for anything we desire at the click
of a button. At a blink of an eye we are then instantaneously connected to thousands of pictures,
articles, videos, books, etc. about our subject of choice such as sports. Furthermore, we not only have
the ability to learn from educational documents; but from each other as well. That is, Individuals
throughout the years have become more comfortable with sharing their experiences and voicing an
opinion such as blogs, reviews, and testimonials. The fact is the Internet provides so many helpful
sources for individuals to learn that one could practically teach their self.

The Captivity Of Orcas Within Institutions Like Seaworld...
I. Overview of the Issue The topic at hand is the captivity of orcas in institutions like SeaWorld. This
issue has been popularized recently because of the documentary, Blackfish, which sets out to build
opposition to whale captivity. Orca captivity involves many stakeholders, including trainers, business
executives, park visitors, and, of course, the orcas themselves. The ethics and dangers behind orca
captivity are what make this topic controversial, especially in light of trainer deaths, specifically that
of Dawn Brancheau, which is addressed in Blackfish and various other sources on the issue. These
scandals also prompted the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to begin a legal
battle with SeaWorld over orca captivity, a case that might change this institution permanently. Due to
these current events, as well as the basic nature of the issue which involves a mesmerizing animal and
its proposed right to freedom, the topic of orca captivity is one that captivates and demands debate. II.
Specific Guiding Question I decided to research the question Should orcas be kept in captivity?
Researching orca captivity in depth interested me, personally, because I consider myself a lover of
animals and, being spurred by watching the previously mentioned documentary, I came to question
whether orcas should be in captivity, at all. Ultimately, the case against orca captivity far outweighed
the institution s benefits, prompting me to

Etiquette and Introductions
Proper etiquette is the acceptable ways in which a person behaves in public. These rules have a long
time existing and have showed in all cultures. Depending on the geographic location, these etiquettes
have changed. For example: if you live in Germany, it s totally normal to drink beer at any time of the
day. On the contrary English people would think of these as an insult. They drink only tea, and it shall
be done at specific times, like on a meeting.
The manners and ways of the nineteenth century were quite different from those of today (as anyone

When a man is appointed on a date with a girl, he has to invite her to walk down the sidewalk while
they talk.
While going up stairs, the man should go before the woman, when going down, he should go after.
While on a carriage, he must not seat next to a woman unless he is a person from her family. He must
leave the carriage first and help the woman out.
When at a public event, the man must go first to find the woman a seat. If there are elder, he has to

The Humiliating Nature of Enslavement, Sexual Savage...
The humiliating nature of enslavement, sexual savage exploitation, and degradation in
autobiographical narratives of Frederick Douglass and Harriet Ann Jacobs
In the age of Romanticism, slavery and the slave trade provoked sharp criticism and controversy and
played a very significant role in shaping public opinion and causing moral opposition to injustice and
tyranny. Since Columbus s journey opened the doors of the Atlantic passage to African Slave Trade,
slavery became man s greatest inhumanity to man converting the victims into labor and economic
units of production. The foundation of African culture and civilization stagnated, decayed and almost
disappeared within the over three hundred years of the Christian motivated evil of ... Show more

That is why throughout his life, he worked very hard to read and write, attain more knowledge, and
share this knowledge with others suffering alongside him as slaves. The work of instructing my dear
fellow slaves was the sweetest engagement with which I was ever blessed...I succeeded in creating in
them a strong desire to learn how to read (Douglass). However, while Douglass mostly spoke about
his black brothers and sisters as one whole the brotherhood , Jacobs in Incidents in the Life of a Slave
Girl, Written by Herself portrayed the wrongs inflicted by slavery in the eyes of women slaves and the
sexual tyranny exerted by white slave masters over black women (Jacobs).
Reader, be assured this narrative is no fiction...I was born and reared in Slavery...I do earnestly desire
to arouse the women of the North to realizing sense of the condition of two millions of women at the
South, still in bondage, suffering what I suffered, and most of them far worse. (Jacobs)
With these words, Harriet Ann Jacobs revealed her personal story of enslavement, sexual savage
exploitation, and degradation. In appealing to white women to look at life from her perspective,
Jacobs was hoping to portray the cruelty of slavery in the eyes of a woman. She did not talk about
severe whipping or punishments like Douglass but rather Christmas which she could not spend with

Essay about Nathaniel Hawthorne s Use of Symbolism
Nathaniel Hawthorne is a prominent writer who uses many different elements in his works. He uses
elements such as symbolism, figurative language, metaphor, irony and etc. to make his work
prominent. In the works by Nathaniel Hawthorne, he uses symbols for secret sin in The Scarlet Letter,
The Minister s Black Veil, and Dr. Heidegger s Experiment.
As seen in The Scarlet letter, the symbol for secret sin is the Scarlet letter A. The A represents the sin
in which Hester commits adultery with the town s minister, Dimmesdale. One example of secret sin is
when Hester first walks out of prison; for the first time she wore the letter A on her breast to show her
crime. The A very well represents her secret sin. Even Dimmesdale curves ... Show more content on

In addition, Nathaniel Hawthorne uses many symbols in The Scarlet Letter.
Moreover, the symbol of secret sin also appears in The Minister s Black Veil. When the people of the
town first saw Mr. Hooper wearing the black veil, they were all wondering why he would wear such
thing. To Mr. Hooper, the black veil means deceit and sins to those who can not separate themselves
from their sins. One example is when he is wearing the black veil to the wedding, and everyone is
kind of skeptic about why he is wearing it but in reality, he wore it to remind everyone of their sins.
Because of this, people call him evil, and he soon became an outcast. The black veil can also represent
his own sin that he committed in the past in which he can never forgive himself. Symbols for secret
sin are once again used in Nathanial Hawthorne s works.
Additionally, symbols for serest sin are also use in Dr. Heidegger s Experiment. In this story, Dr.
Heidegger s sin is playing with God because he basically made up a story about the whole Fountain of
Youth to his friends. But for him, this is all an experiment because he wants to see how his friends will
react to their pretend younger selves, and if they have changed their personality. One example is when
they drank the Water of Youth; Dr. Heidegger s friends became addicted to the water asking for more.
Dr. Heidegger is playing God to his friends just for his experiment. Once again, Nathaniel Hawthorne

New Inclusive Approach To Bullying Essay
Over the past couple of decades, schools all across the nation have noticed a significant rise in the
amount of bullying taking place among their students. Two decades ago, bullying was often seen as a
rare occurrence, where small groups of parents sought protection for their children with the school
district , stated by Vikki Healy Ortiz, writer of the article New inclusive approach helps schools fight
bullying . However, the same cannot be said for our society in today s world. Our modern world has
advanced tremendously over the past few decades and there are even more opportunities for children
to be susceptible to feeling isolated from others because they are simply unique. In today s society,
children have the potential to bully each other outside of the classroom as well. ... Show more content

Experts say that the old methods that were once used to help bring down the rate of bullying are now
no longer effective because they are out of date. Ortiz states, In the past, administrators often relied on
individual conversations, sporadic motivational speakers and other piecemeal attempts focused on
telling students not to be mean . It is quite obvious as to why these methods are now considered to be
very elementary and inefficient. As our society advances, our methods of coping with complexities
need to advance as well. Luckily, school districts will implement ideas of having more in depth
approaches that stress on the importance of respect and peer to peer remediation. Schools all across
the United States are taking a stand against bullying by focusing on crucial campaigns that strive on
more inclusive approaches such as the No One Eats Alone campaign and the Stop, Walk and Talk

Should Animals Be Banned Of Animals Research
As a young child, you would probably remember your parents taking you to the circus where you
witnessed all your favourite animals preforming their tricks. As an innocent child you would not have
thought about what happens behind the scenes or the preparation these animals experience before
performing on stage.
The reality is that animals are trained by fear, suffering and disrespect, are kept in tiny cages where
they can barely move around and they travel most of their life time in severe temperatures which they
are not used to in their natural habitat. I strongly believe that circuses which make animals perform
should be banned.
Sink that hook into em ... when you hear that screaming, then you know you ve got their attention!
Feet of elephants are chained because of their size otherwise they might escape.
How Are They Trained?
Animals in the circus do not willingly stand on their heads, with two legs, on balls, jump through rings
on fire or ride bicycles. Animals don t normally do these useless acts in the wild or in their habitats.
Did you know that tigers are terrified of fire, but they would rather jump through it on rings than face
the consequences of the trainers?
I went undercover inside the Carson Barnes Circus, while a trainer was teaching his students their job
and training 3 defenceless elephants. I documented and observed extreme animal abuse, including the
elephants being beaten with baseball bats, pitchforks, shocked with electric prods; and hit on

Descriptive Essay On Home Sweet Home
Home Sweet Home
Everyone dreams about buying his or her dream house; I lost my dream house, twice. When my
girlfriend Izzy and I began house searching, it was a whirlwind of excitement. This was our first hunt
in the real estate market, and we were ready to close in on the perfect first house. Suddenly we were
staying up into the late hours of the night, cuddled in bed, endlessly searching for houses on Zillow.
Throw pillows, dishes and pictures began to jump off the shelves at us in every store we entered. We
anxiously imagined every aspect of what we wanted in our house. The rush of chasing down the ideal
house and making it our home was thrilling, yet short lived.
We were set on a modern ranch style dwelling, farmhouse style for her, and a large garage for me. One
day our real estate agent called and exclaimed she tracked down a house that met every bullet point on
our checklist, and that we should meet her immediately to view it. The home had a large southern style
front porch, new rustic bamboo wood floors, and all white cabinets. The open and light build was
perfect for Izzy. Around the side of the house was a two car garage complete with a custom peg wall
for tools and built in shelving. Not much further around the house was the back yard, large and
completely fenced in. The storage and build was perfect for me. We knew this was our house; it had to
be.
As we were standing in the center of the bare living room, our real estate agent s phone began to ring.

Dillon and Hoyston discuss critical steps in establishing reimbursement for a new NP, whether this is
part of an existing practice or a new practice. Initially, each NP needs to apply for a National Provider

1996 mandated a standard of unique identifiers for health care providers and health plans (Dillon
Hoyston, 2014, p.57). While the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services established the National

Animal Testing Satire
When was the last time you bought makeup? Or even more specifically when was the last time you
bought makeup that was tested on animals? Each year in Australia alone, over 100 million animals
will die from exposure to commercial animal testing or in simpler terms, animal cruelty that is
commonly disregarded as it is just science . However, product testing on animal is extremely unethical
and is pure cruelty. Here is why we need to stop this mistreatment immediately.
To start, the results of animal testing cannot be accurately assumed safe for human use. In 1960 an
organisation known as Animal Friends Croatia created a drug called Thalidomide which eased
morning sickness for pregnant women. Before being sold to the public, it was tested on multiple

cages with about 3 or 4 other animals (depending on their species). Through out the long days of these

for the next terrifying and painful procedure of testing to be done on them. Due to their exclusion from
the outside environment and the mistreatment done to them, some animals begin to display symptoms
and actions of neurotic behaviour. Some of this behaviour may include, biting themselves, pulling
their own fur out, spinning around in circles and intensive rocking back and forth. This is a disgusting
way for such gentle creatures to be spending their lives just to benefit humans. According to PETA

According to many historical documents, even people lived in Baltimore, which is more than 40 miles

Bad Things About Cars Research Paper
Technology is always changing, some people would say it s a good thing. Their other people who like
having their life on a repeat ordinarily would think to change it s a bad thing. One thing that is always
changing is cars. From what I heard growing up cars are a need for people, nor more a want because
people need cars for transportation. Even in the book Business Driven Technology said that cars a
good. The only way to get rid of the car is if someone invents teleportation. When someone is looking
for a car they see how safe it is like as if the airbag or the brakes still work. There other people who
look for how fast the car goes nevertheless, how many miles do the car have. Another word for this is

The Effects Of Mining On The Environment And Economy For...
Mining is the process or industry of obtaining coal or other minerals from a mine. A new mining
project, called the Back Forty, is was proposed and is located on the Michigan and Wisconsin border.
This project is said to begin around 2020 and created concern for some people. The Aquila Resources
Inc. is the company behind this proposal, and they said it will invest more than $300 million to extract
gold, zinc, copper and silver along the Menominee River (Bergquist, 2016). The Menominee river is
part of the border between Wisconsin and Michigan. The mine will have large effects on the
environment and economy for Lake Michigan and Wisconsin. The next paragraphs will discuss the
positive and negative effects that the Back Forty could create. One side would be for the mine and say
that the economic benefits would outweigh the negative effects on the environment, while the
opposing side would say the opposite.
To begin, those who are for mining would say that the Back Forty will have positive effects on the
economy in places near it. Many people could assume that opening a mine could create more jobs, and

Analysis Of The Lewis And Clark Corps Of Discovery Expedition
Sacagawea was born in 1788, in what is now known as Idaho, as the daughter of the Chief of the
Shoshone Tribe. She led a drudgery early life and experienced many hardships. Sacagawea was part of
the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery Expedition in 1805. She traveled the northern plains through
the Rocky Mountains and to the Pacific Ocean and back. Sacagawea was a native american girl who
was taken to slavery at a young age and then went on to be remembered as a great women.
Sacagawea had a very different and difficult early life. The Shoshones were always getting attacked

She was on the expedition from April 7, 1805 until August 14, 1806. She was the interpreter and

knowledge of the terrain. She settled tensions between the explorers and Native Americans because
they saw her son strapped to her back and they felt the explorers were peaceful. She also did the
cooking for the other journeymen and made sure everyone was fed.
Lewis helped Sacagawea give birth to her son. Lewis wrote in his journal about five O clock this
evening one of the wives of Charbono was delivered of a fine boy. it is worthy of remark that this was
the first child which this woman had borne, and as is common in such cases her labour was tedious
and the pain violent; Mr. Jessome informed me that he had frequently administered a small portion of
the rattle of the rattlesnake, which he assured me had never failed to produce the desired effect, that of
hastening the birth of the child; having the rattle of a snake by me I gave it to him and he administered
two rings of it to the woman broken in small pieces with the fingers and added to a small quantity of
water. Her labor must have been so painful and scary at this age.
During the expedition Clark really started caring for Jean and asked Charbonneau and Sacagawea if
the could raise him as his old child and give him a good education. It was Clark who had nicknamed
him Pompey.

top of my class at some point or another. I have good grades that I always maintain and standards that
I never lower. My character is not the best but it certainly isn t the worst. I try to help out in my school

Addressing Crohn s Disease
When a person has one, it doesn t mean that by this time next week, it will go away. It means that they
will continue to deal with the symptoms of that disease until the day they die. That is a daunting
thought, often too large in scale for anyone to truly take seriously. Crohn s Disease is one of those
diseases that is improperly evaluated by the general public. Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Seantrel
Henderson battles it daily, yet is currently serving a 10 game suspension from the NFL for cannabis
use. Why is there such a disconnect between people who suffer from the disease and the doctors who
treat them, and the general public who believe those taking the drug are using it as an excuse to get
high? While not a medical doctor, I am uniquely qualified to talk about the battle Henderson is ...

to combat Crohn s. In Henderson s case, he has tried to explain his use. Finding what works is by far
the hardest part of it all. At one point, I was taking 30+ pills a day to battle the disease and it caused
permanent damage to my liver in the process. If Henderson using a natural, plant based method to
treat his disease is the solution to his problem, what is the NFL trying to stop here? Not only is it
helping manage his symptoms, he finally has hope for a normal life. Hope is a rare emotion that can
manifest itself in plenty of ways. He may have found his in an uncommon way. Dealing with Crohn s

Corruption In Animal Farm
Ted Nugent said, The government is so out of control. It is so bloated and infested with fraud and
deceit and corruption and abuse of power . Throughout history this has been the problem with several
new and lasting governments. People have even written books where the story is an allegory or a
satire for these problems. One of the most well know is Animal Farm by George Orwell. This book
was originally written to show the issues of the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917, however it is a timeless
book that can be applied to countless revolutions, rise to power, and different government regimes.
The Nazi regime was full of issues, but had a major issue with corruption. Animal Farm can be
applied to the Nazi regime to show the corruption in leadership thought the comparisons of the order,
lies, and violence in each. Both of these regimes had a strong set of rules and a strong sense of order to
keep the people in line. Both believed that the key to keeping strong order was to have the best and
more intellectual people as the leaders. The pigs were the leaders because of their superior knowledge
it was natural that they should assume the leadership (Orwell 35). Animal Farm had the smarter people
be the leaders, however the Nazi party took it a step farther for whom their leaders would be. They
had the idea of a master race or perfect human, which made everyone else inferior. Their goal was to
have the master race rule over everyone. Having stronger and more intellectual

Slow growth for Internet Based retailing
The growth of online retailing is quite slow in United States of America as compare to European
countries. There are very limited online services have been adopted by retailers in United States of
America. The big retailers of country have given just one option to their customer is that just buy
products online but pick yourself from your selected store. Such services are available on sites of Wal
Mart, Delhaize and Meijer etc. The main reason of having slow growth of online retailers is the
delivery cost of groceries items and limited areas of delivery. There are two famous online retailers,
Peapod and Fresh Direct. They have expanded their delivery areas. The management of Peapod is
planning to provide their services of smartphones and social media sites by developing unique app.

The Importance Of Plagiarism In College Students
In short: Don t do it. But in truth, that is not good enough.
I have assigned and graded or had graded by TA s tens of thousands of bits of writing by college
students over the years. A lot of my friends are teachers. My wife is a teacher. I ve seen it all. If you
are a student trying to avoid getting caught plagiarizing, I can help you.
You need to know the following three things. These facts will save you from getting tossed out of
college or having a mark on your high school record.
1) Teachers hate plagiarism more than they hate stepping on puppies and kittens. If there are two
students in a class, and one has plagiarized an assignment and one has crushed some puppies and
kittens, and the teacher only has time to turn one of them it to the administration, they ll turn in the
plagiarizer.
2) There has almost never been a case where a student was proved to have plagiarized something (by
matching the original to the student s paper) where the plagiarism wasn t already blindingly obvious to
the teacher to begin with. In other words, when you plagiarize something, it is always spotted
immediately. If some other student tells you that they got away with it, they are lying to you (like
House says, people always lie) or the teacher chose to not turn them in. Yet.
Given this, you should understand that plagiarism is never a good strategy for improving your grade.
Just don t do it.

What Is Examined Life Essay
n the immortal words of Socrates, The unexamined life is not worth living. Socrates certainly felt
strongly about his beliefs as he was willing to die for them and eventually did. But was it really worth
losing his life over? If so, will examining life make you happier? Life is worth examining, although
doing so will not always make people happy. The question then is why is it worth examining? It is
simple; the purpose of human beings is to grow to be better, something that cannot be achieved if we
do not examine life.
Even though we do not know what our purpose in life is, as a whole it can be agreed that humans seek
to improve themselves. Thinking back to human ancestral species the Homo erectus it is understood
that they did not simply accept the world for what was in front of them.
Rather, when opportunity for discovery was presented to them they set forth to it. For example, when
early hominin species discovered fire they did not simply walk away and accept the fact that it was a
part of nature and should therefore be left to be. Instead they questioned this aspect of nature and
through further examination were able to tame fire, an element that has long been credited for the rise
of human species.
Certainly it was well worth it for human ancestors to have examined life. Although in that situation it
brought happiness, this will not always be the case, allow me to elaborate. The
American government spends billions of dollars protecting its citizens from terrorist by

Literature Review Of Literature On Influenza
Review of literature: Acute respiratory infections are a major cause of human disease and are one of
the most important causes of child mortality throughout the globe. Though there are considerable
variations in infantile mortality, according to World Health Organization, the lower respiratory tract
infections are the second most important cause of death among children 5 years of age. (Carolina et
al., 2012)
Respiratory syncytial virus is most frequently detected in childhood illness. Factors predisposing to

The multiplication of the virus occurs in the respiratory tract and the main site of infection occurs in
the ciliated columnar epithelial cell. Crowded areas and cold climate favours the spread of the virus.
Highest incidence of influenza infection is seen in young population which may be due to lack of
exposure to different strains. Children are mainly affected during epidemics (Rao, 2003). The
influenza virus triggers pulmonary inflammation resulting in infiltration of inflammatory cells and an
immune response. The primary target and the principal host for the virus are Bronchial epithelial cells.
Generally influenza viruses are recognized and destroyed by innate immune mechanisms which
includes macrophages, interferon (IFN) a, b and other cytokines, natural killer (NK) cells and
complement. If influenza viruses escape from these early defense mechanisms, they are captured and
destroyed by adaptive immune mechanisms, where T and B cells and their antigen specific effectors
(cytotoxic T lymphocytes, cytokines such as IFNc and antibodies) target the virus. subsequent viral

Zoroastrianism And Confucianism Essay
Confucianism and Zoroastrianism share a similar goal in their religious path: bringing peace and order
to their people. Their reasoning behind these values are somewhat similar as well, inspired by
dissatisfaction with how their societies had been previously running. However, once you get past this
outside similarity, noticeable differences in how they practice and achieve these outcomes come forth.
Zoroastrianism was inspired by the titular prophet Zoroaster, who, according to tradition, spent years
in a wandering quest for truth (Boyce, pg. 19). He witnessed various acts of violence by the
worshippers of the Daevas, but concluded that he could not do anything to help by himself. Thus, he
became filled with a deep longing for justice...so that order and tranquility could prevail, and all be
able to pursue the good life in peace (Boyce, pg. 19). The beliefs backed up by the Ahuras would
support a gentle community with a more relaxed quality of life, and this inspired the eventual
revelation that Zoroaster experienced with Ahura Mazda. Similarly, Confucianism finds a great part of
its basis in five books called The Classics, which came about during a point of societal transition and
unrest. These books outlined the rites and values of Confucianism, as well as its ultimate goal: the
creation of a harmonious society through careful self cultivation not for the sake of the self, but for the
sake of society (Woo, pg. 259). While Confucius did not write all of these, ... Show more content on

Salton Beach Research Paper
In the 1950s and 60s, Bombay Beach in California was a thriving resort. Guests swam, water skied,
and golfed during the day, then headed to the yacht club to party at the end of the night. Now, Bombay
Beach is a faded, rusted, abandoned wasteland. The water smells like salt, gas, and rotting dead fish.
The shores lined with sunbathers before, and now they are covered in green sludge and dried fish
remains. To understand how this place turned from paradise to agony, you need to know the story of
the Salton Sea. Bombay Beach doesn t lie on the west coast, but in the Colorado Desert. In 1905, the
Colorado River swelled, penetrated its walls, and flooded the desert valley known as the Salton Sink.
The water flowed for two years, then creating a 15 by 35 mile lake named the Salton Sea. The creation
of this internal sea was an accident; it was initially emerged to deliver great benefits. Birds flocked to
the area, and fish bloomed in the Salton Sea. Developers held the rare setting and selected it the Salton
Riviera, or a miracle in the desert. Hotels, yacht clubs, homes, and schools sprang up by the shores, as
the Salton Sea became a resort destination and a great place to be. ... Show more content on

A Short Horizon Model And The Relation Between The Stock...
In our analysis we used a short horizon model, meaning that we chose a window of 4 months before
the merger was announced and 4 months after the actual merger was completed, and studied the
security prices of the merging companies and their rivals over that time period. We then decided to use
a 3 day event window, CAR [ 1,1] first used by Andrade, Mitchell and Stafford (2001), in which the
event occurred on the 2nd day within that time frame. To do this, we used a market model to derive
the relationship between the stock price of the firms and our chosen index, the Standard and Poors
500. At this point we also examined changes in the R D intensity between companies that received a
second request and or complaint, and those that did not over the following 4 month period.
We then used regression analysis to elucidate the relationship between the different firms and the
reference index. Following this we then projected the normal returns using regression analysis for all
of the days which fell within the event window. We then took the expected returns and subtracted the
actual returns, and it was through this methodology that we could detect a relationship between
cumulative abnormal returns of the acquiror and the likelihood of receiving a second request. To
calculate the R D intensity, we take the cumulative R D for each firm in the 4 months prior to the
event and 4 months after the event and divide that by the their combined sales to reach a post merger

Operation Guadalcanal And Adjacent Islands, Operation...
The campaign to seize Guadalcanal and adjacent islands, Operation Watchtower, is a valuable case
study illustrating aspects of design and operational art. Features of operational design and art are
unmistakable in the shaping of the Pacific campaign plan and subsequent subordinate operations. This
case study illustrates the actions taken link the series of tactical actions across the Pacific toward the
national strategic objective of defeating Japan along a defined line of operation. This paper briefly
explores the use of design and operational art by the Allies in the Solomon Islands campaign of World
War II.
At the strategic level, the Allies prioritized the European Theater of Operations (ETO) ahead of the
Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO) after the Arcadia conference (22 Dec 1941 14 Jan 1942). This
initially relegated Pacific strategy to a defensive one primarily due to lack of resources. However, due
to rapid Japanese advances in early 1942 Australia requested the return of her divisions that were
currently serving in the ETO under the British. This set a chain of events in motion allowing a more
aggressive Pacific strategy to emerge. Australia was a crucial ally and a decisive point in the defense
of the Pacific. As a conciliatory measure the United States dispatched additional divisions and
equipment to the South Pacific in order to retain Australian divisions in Europe. It should also be
noted that most Americans were still seething over Pearl Harbor adding to

  • 2. World War 1 Summary Setting the Stage for World War One History identifies the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand at Sarajevo on June 28, 1914, as the direct cause of World War One. Nonetheless, historians are in agreement that there were many factors contributing to the conflict between the Great powers, resulting in a large scale war to break out. The second industrialization also known as the Technological Revolution from 1870 1914 cultivated industrial societies to emerge and leading to new forms of states and of diplomatic and military alignments (Barzun). These military alignments were later to be known as The Great Powers of Europe. The Great Powers were divided into two alliances: The Triple Alliance between Germany, Italy Austria Hungry established in 1882, and The Triple Entente between Britain, Russia France established in 1907 (Tonge). There were three main rivalries between the powers: Germany France over the Alsace Lorraine territory (5,067 square miles of land that was ceded by France to Germany in 1871 after the Franco German War), Russia Austria over the Balkans peninsula in Southeast Europe (a desirable territory for its strategically vital geographic location surrounded by four seas: the Black Sea, the Mediterranean, the Adriatic and the Aegean, and situated at the crossroads of three major empires Ottoman, Russian and Austro Hungarian), and Britain Germany over naval and economic power. In the years prior to the war, military spending greatly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Philosophy And Bertrand Russell s The Nature Of Philosophy In The Nature of Philosophy by Bertrand Russell, it is said that if the study of philosophy has any value at all for others than students of philosophy, it must be only indirectly, through its effects upon the lives of those who study it . As such, the real value of philosophy comes from its study, and this study should be compulsory in schools. This is due to its teaching of logic, rationality, and critical thinking. This is also due to the course s teaching of the value of ethics. Finally, philosophy should be made a compulsory subject as it has benefits that will positively affect a student s performance outside of high school, in post secondary education and beyond. The importance of logic and rationality in life should not be understated, and as philosophy teaches logic to its students, it should thusly be made mandatory. A rather common sentiment is that too many people are taken advantage of because of their lack of critical thinking, logic and deductive reasoning . With a prevalence of advertisements and large figures in the media trying to persuade others to believe them, a mandatory philosophy class would teach students how to effectively apply logic so that they will no longer be taken advantage of when facing premises in the media and in the world around them that have less to do with a sound argument and more to do with rhetorical devices. Rick Lewis writes that philosophy is based upon logic and reasoning, and that learning how to use logic is critical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some studies have found that the level of incidence for ashkenazi jews, Mennonite population and the amish is greater than in the average population. (http://www.annclinlabsci.org/content/41/2/167.full) Detection of the disease is first identified via clinical symptomatology namely: smell of maple syrup in the earwax about 12 hours after birth, irritability or difficulty feeding present two to three days after birth , movements resembling fencing or bicycling present four to five days after birth, coma or respiratory failure by day seven or ten after birth. During BCAA testing leucine levels are most important to note as they will be elevated in MSUD, while isoleucine and valine could be non specific. Allo isoleucine is the more definitive indicator of MSUD. (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK1319/). • 6. The Good Old Days are Blurred Essay example From time to time those that have come before us such as our moms, dads, and grandparents will reminisce on the good old days. A time when there was no Internet so one had to read the newspaper for updates, write rather than type during class, go to the library for research, knock for a friend, use snail mail, etc. For me such thoughts have made the understanding of the phrase, the good old days quite blurred. The fact is the so called good old days was a time that seems astronomically different, slow paced, and quite frankly dull compared to today. That is, since I can remember the Internet has always been apart of my life, practically advancing its growth as I have grown. The Internet has revolutionized today s society changing our ... Communication and networking for any purpose such as work, friendship, relationship, interests, employment, business, etc. has drastically changed with the Internet. It has become a much easier, quicker, and more effective process. Another example of the benefits of the Internet is that of information acquisition and preservation. Back in the good old days acquiring information about an unfamiliar subject, or learning anything for that matter required a knowledgeable individual, a class, or a trip to the library. However, since the birth of the Internet and the development of Google by Larry Page and Sergey Brin all that has changed drastically. With Google we now have the ability to search for anything we desire at the click of a button. At a blink of an eye we are then instantaneously connected to thousands of pictures, articles, videos, books, etc. about our subject of choice such as sports. That is, Individuals throughout the years have become more comfortable with sharing their experiences and voicing an opinion such as blogs, reviews, and testimonials. • 7. The Captivity Of Orcas Within Institutions Like Seaworld... I. Overview of the Issue The topic at hand is the captivity of orcas in institutions like SeaWorld. This issue has been popularized recently because of the documentary, Blackfish, which sets out to build opposition to whale captivity. Orca captivity involves many stakeholders, including trainers, business executives, park visitors, and, of course, the orcas themselves. The ethics and dangers behind orca captivity are what make this topic controversial, especially in light of trainer deaths, specifically that of Dawn Brancheau, which is addressed in Blackfish and various other sources on the issue. These scandals also prompted the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to begin a legal battle with SeaWorld over orca captivity, a case that might change this institution permanently. Due to these current events, as well as the basic nature of the issue which involves a mesmerizing animal and its proposed right to freedom, the topic of orca captivity is one that captivates and demands debate. II. Specific Guiding Question I decided to research the question Should orcas be kept in captivity? Researching orca captivity in depth interested me, personally, because I consider myself a lover of animals and, being spurred by watching the previously mentioned documentary, I came to question whether orcas should be in captivity, at all. Ultimately, the case against orca captivity far outweighed the institution s benefits, prompting me to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The humiliating nature of enslavement, sexual savage exploitation, and degradation in autobiographical narratives of Frederick Douglass and Harriet Ann Jacobs In the age of Romanticism, slavery and the slave trade provoked sharp criticism and controversy and played a very significant role in shaping public opinion and causing moral opposition to injustice and tyranny. Since Columbus s journey opened the doors of the Atlantic passage to African Slave Trade, slavery became man s greatest inhumanity to man converting the victims into labor and economic units of production. • 11. Essay about Nathaniel Hawthorne s Use of Symbolism Nathaniel Hawthorne is a prominent writer who uses many different elements in his works. He uses elements such as symbolism, figurative language, metaphor, irony and etc. to make his work prominent. In the works by Nathaniel Hawthorne, he uses symbols for secret sin in The Scarlet Letter, The Minister s Black Veil, and Dr. Heidegger s Experiment. As seen in The Scarlet letter, the symbol for secret sin is the Scarlet letter A. The A represents the sin in which Hester commits adultery with the town s minister, Dimmesdale. One example of secret sin is when Hester first walks out of prison; for the first time she wore the letter A on her breast to show her crime. The A very well represents her secret sin. Moreover, the symbol of secret sin also appears in The Minister s Black Veil. When the people of the town first saw Mr. Hooper wearing the black veil, they were all wondering why he would wear such thing. To Mr. Hooper, the black veil means deceit and sins to those who can not separate themselves from their sins. One example is when he is wearing the black veil to the wedding, and everyone is kind of skeptic about why he is wearing it but in reality, he wore it to remind everyone of their sins. Because of this, people call him evil, and he soon became an outcast. The black veil can also represent his own sin that he committed in the past in which he can never forgive himself. Symbols for secret sin are once again used in Nathanial Hawthorne s works. Additionally, symbols for serest sin are also use in Dr. Heidegger s Experiment. In this story, Dr. Heidegger s sin is playing with God because he basically made up a story about the whole Fountain of Youth to his friends. But for him, this is all an experiment because he wants to see how his friends will react to their pretend younger selves, and if they have changed their personality. One example is when they drank the Water of Youth; Dr. Heidegger s friends became addicted to the water asking for more. Dr. Heidegger is playing God to his friends just for his experiment. New Inclusive Approach To Bullying Essay Over the past couple of decades, schools all across the nation have noticed a significant rise in the amount of bullying taking place among their students. Two decades ago, bullying was often seen as a rare occurrence, where small groups of parents sought protection for their children with the school district , stated by Vikki Healy Ortiz, writer of the article New inclusive approach helps schools fight bullying . However, the same cannot be said for our society in today s world. Ortiz states, In the past, administrators often relied on individual conversations, sporadic motivational speakers and other piecemeal attempts focused on telling students not to be mean . It is quite obvious as to why these methods are now considered to be very elementary and inefficient. As our society advances, our methods of coping with complexities need to advance as well. Luckily, school districts will implement ideas of having more in depth approaches that stress on the importance of respect and peer to peer remediation. Should Animals Be Banned Of Animals Research As a young child, you would probably remember your parents taking you to the circus where you witnessed all your favourite animals preforming their tricks. As an innocent child you would not have thought about what happens behind the scenes or the preparation these animals experience before performing on stage. The reality is that animals are trained by fear, suffering and disrespect, are kept in tiny cages where they can barely move around and they travel most of their life time in severe temperatures which they are not used to in their natural habitat. Suddenly we were staying up into the late hours of the night, cuddled in bed, endlessly searching for houses on Zillow. One day our real estate agent called and exclaimed she tracked down a house that met every bullet point on our checklist, and that we should meet her immediately to view it. The home had a large southern style front porch, new rustic bamboo wood floors, and all white cabinets. The open and light build was perfect for Izzy. Around the side of the house was a two car garage complete with a custom peg wall for tools and built in shelving. Not much further around the house was the back yard, large and completely fenced in. Throughout history this has been the problem with several new and lasting governments. People have even written books where the story is an allegory or a satire for these problems. One of the most well know is Animal Farm by George Orwell. Both believed that the key to keeping strong order was to have the best and more intellectual people as the leaders. The pigs were the leaders because of their superior knowledge it was natural that they should assume the leadership (Orwell 35). I have assigned and graded or had graded by TA s tens of thousands of bits of writing by college students over the years. A lot of my friends are teachers. My wife is a teacher. I ve seen it all. If you are a student trying to avoid getting caught plagiarizing, I can help you. You need to know the following three things. These facts will save you from getting tossed out of college or having a mark on your high school record. 1) Teachers hate plagiarism more than they hate stepping on puppies and kittens. If there are two students in a class, and one has plagiarized an assignment and one has crushed some puppies and kittens, and the teacher only has time to turn one of them it to the administration, they ll turn in the plagiarizer. 2) There has almost never been a case where a student was proved to have plagiarized something (by matching the original to the student s paper) where the plagiarism wasn t already blindingly obvious to the teacher to begin with. In other words, when you plagiarize something, it is always spotted immediately. If some other student tells you that they got away with it, they are lying to you (like House says, people always lie) or the teacher chose to not turn them in. Yet. • 30. What Is Examined Life Essay n the immortal words of Socrates, The unexamined life is not worth living. Socrates certainly felt strongly about his beliefs as he was willing to die for them and eventually did. But was it really worth losing his life over? If so, will examining life make you happier? Life is worth examining, although doing so will not always make people happy. The question then is why is it worth examining? It is simple; the purpose of human beings is to grow to be better, something that cannot be achieved if we do not examine life. Even though we do not know what our purpose in life is, as a whole it can be agreed that humans seek to improve themselves. Thinking back to human ancestral species the Homo erectus it is understood that they did not simply accept the world for what was in front of them. Rather, when opportunity for discovery was presented to them they set forth to it. For example, when early hominin species discovered fire they did not simply walk away and accept the fact that it was a part of nature and should therefore be left to be. Instead they questioned this aspect of nature and through further examination were able to tame fire, an element that has long been credited for the rise of human species. Certainly it was well worth it for human ancestors to have examined life. Although in that situation it brought happiness, this will not always be the case, allow me to elaborate. The American government spends billions of dollars protecting its citizens from terrorist by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Literature Review Of Literature On Influenza Review of literature: Acute respiratory infections are a major cause of human disease and are one of the most important causes of child mortality throughout the globe. Though there are considerable variations in infantile mortality, according to World Health Organization, the lower respiratory tract infections are the second most important cause of death among children 5 years of age. (Carolina et al., 2012) Respiratory syncytial virus is most frequently detected in childhood illness. Factors predisposing to severe ARI caused by RSV are well known in industrialized countries but little information exists for developing countries. Infection with human metapneumovirus (HMPV) presents similar clinical symptoms to that of RSV . Despite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The multiplication of the virus occurs in the respiratory tract and the main site of infection occurs in the ciliated columnar epithelial cell. Crowded areas and cold climate favours the spread of the virus. Highest incidence of influenza infection is seen in young population which may be due to lack of exposure to different strains. Children are mainly affected during epidemics (Rao, 2003). The influenza virus triggers pulmonary inflammation resulting in infiltration of inflammatory cells and an immune response. The primary target and the principal host for the virus are Bronchial epithelial cells. Generally influenza viruses are recognized and destroyed by innate immune mechanisms which includes macrophages, interferon (IFN) a, b and other cytokines, natural killer (NK) cells and complement. If influenza viruses escape from these early defense mechanisms, they are captured and destroyed by adaptive immune mechanisms, where T and B cells and their antigen specific effectors (cytotoxic T lymphocytes, cytokines such as IFNc and antibodies) target the virus. subsequent viral infection is prevented by Antigen specific memory cells (T and B cells) (Capelozzi et al., ... • 34. Zoroastrianism And Confucianism Essay Confucianism and Zoroastrianism share a similar goal in their religious path: bringing peace and order to their people. Their reasoning behind these values are somewhat similar as well, inspired by dissatisfaction with how their societies had been previously running. However, once you get past this outside similarity, noticeable differences in how they practice and achieve these outcomes come forth. Zoroastrianism was inspired by the titular prophet Zoroaster, who, according to tradition, spent years in a wandering quest for truth (Boyce, pg. 19). He witnessed various acts of violence by the worshippers of the Daevas, but concluded that he could not do anything to help by himself. Thus, he became filled with a deep longing for justice...so that order and tranquility could prevail, and all be able to pursue the good life in peace (Boyce, pg. 19). The beliefs backed up by the Ahuras would support a gentle community with a more relaxed quality of life, and this inspired the eventual revelation that Zoroaster experienced with Ahura Mazda. Similarly, Confucianism finds a great part of its basis in five books called The Classics, which came about during a point of societal transition and unrest. These books outlined the rites and values of Confucianism, as well as its ultimate goal: the creation of a harmonious society through careful self cultivation not for the sake of the self, but for the sake of society (Woo, pg. 259). While Confucius did not write all of these, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both countries developed in such things as education and literature, as well as work for families. However, it seems the United States developed faster while Russia developed more in the later 19th century. Despite the rate of their development differed, the United States and Russia s societies grew in family, education, and literature. In the 1800s, couples in the United States viewed marriage as an act of affection and not for economic reasons. Men were working in factories during the 19th century. Because the women were not viewed fit to be in the work field, they focused on the housework and raising children. While in Russia the largest social class worked as farmers. The men ... • 36. Salton Beach Research Paper In the 1950s and 60s, Bombay Beach in California was a thriving resort. Guests swam, water skied, and golfed during the day, then headed to the yacht club to party at the end of the night. Now, Bombay Beach is a faded, rusted, abandoned wasteland. The water smells like salt, gas, and rotting dead fish. The shores lined with sunbathers before, and now they are covered in green sludge and dried fish remains. To understand how this place turned from paradise to agony, you need to know the story of the Salton Sea. Bombay Beach doesn t lie on the west coast, but in the Colorado Desert. In 1905, the Colorado River swelled, penetrated its walls, and flooded the desert valley known as the Salton Sink. The water flowed for two years, then creating a 15 by 35 mile lake named the Salton Sea. The creation of this internal sea was an accident; it was initially emerged to deliver great benefits. Birds flocked to the area, and fish bloomed in the Salton Sea. Developers held the rare setting and selected it the Salton Riviera, or a miracle in the desert. Hotels, yacht clubs, homes, and schools sprang up by the shores, as the Salton Sea became a resort destination and a great place to be. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 38. A Short Horizon Model And The Relation Between The Stock... In our analysis we used a short horizon model, meaning that we chose a window of 4 months before the merger was announced and 4 months after the actual merger was completed, and studied the security prices of the merging companies and their rivals over that time period. We then decided to use a 3 day event window, CAR [ 1,1] first used by Andrade, Mitchell and Stafford (2001), in which the event occurred on the 2nd day within that time frame. To do this, we used a market model to derive the relationship between the stock price of the firms and our chosen index, the Standard and Poors 500. At this point we also examined changes in the R D intensity between companies that received a second request and or complaint, and those that did not over the following 4 month period. We then used regression analysis to elucidate the relationship between the different firms and the reference index. Following this we then projected the normal returns using regression analysis for all of the days which fell within the event window. We then took the expected returns and subtracted the actual returns, and it was through this methodology that we could detect a relationship between cumulative abnormal returns of the acquiror and the likelihood of receiving a second request. To calculate the R D intensity, we take the cumulative R D for each firm in the 4 months prior to the event and 4 months after the event and divide that by the their combined sales to reach a post merger research and ... • 40. Operation Guadalcanal And Adjacent Islands, Operation... The campaign to seize Guadalcanal and adjacent islands, Operation Watchtower, is a valuable case study illustrating aspects of design and operational art. Features of operational design and art are unmistakable in the shaping of the Pacific campaign plan and subsequent subordinate operations. This case study illustrates the actions taken link the series of tactical actions across the Pacific toward the national strategic objective of defeating Japan along a defined line of operation. This paper briefly explores the use of design and operational art by the Allies in the Solomon Islands campaign of World War II. At the strategic level, the Allies prioritized the European Theater of Operations (ETO) ahead of the Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO) after the Arcadia conference (22 Dec 1941 14 Jan 1942). This initially relegated Pacific strategy to a defensive one primarily due to lack of resources. However, due to rapid Japanese advances in early 1942 Australia requested the return of her divisions that were currently serving in the ETO under the British. This set a chain of events in motion allowing a more aggressive Pacific strategy to emerge. Australia was a crucial ally and a decisive point in the defense of the Pacific. As a conciliatory measure the United States dispatched additional divisions and equipment to the South Pacific in order to retain Australian divisions in Europe. It should also be noted that most Americans were still seething over Pearl Harbor adding to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
