Horse Primates Compare And Contrast
When we see an animal, do we ever think about what is going on deeper than the eye can see? Do you
ever think about all the things firing inside to keep things in balance and the animal functioning?
Horses and primates have many similarities as well as differences.
Starting with the skeletal system, the skulls on a primate and a horse are quite different. A primate s
skull usually lacks the large sagittal crest (Cavendish, 2010, pg.10). Just like a horse, they also have
very powerful jaws for chewing their food. They have very pronounced brow bones, and a large
forehead. However, in horses and in primates the head is very proportioned with the whole body.
Horses foreheads are typically flat and broad, while a primate s skull is quite smaller and more
rounded. Primates have a very flexible and short neck, while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

They consume foods such as fruits, leaves, bark, stems, insects, and even other primates. Nothing is
off limits (Cavendish, 2010, pg.19). Horses on the other hand are herbivores, so they only eat plant
based foods. Horses have hindgut fermenters, which mean that they only have one stomach, but it
contains four different compartments to digest food. This contains the reticulum, rumen, omasum, and
the abomasum which is the true stomach. They also have a flap that hangs over the distal end of the
esophagus which prevents them from vomiting. Primates on the other hand, can vomit. Since horses
have hindgut fermenters, digestion is broken down into multiple segments. Those segments include
the cecum, ventral colon, and the dorsal colon (Miyaji, 2014). Primates digest their food a little
differently. There aren t many compartments the food has to travel through. Food travels down the
esophagus into the stomach, where it is met by stomach acid and food is broken down and passed
through the small and large intestine, nutrients are absorbed, and the waste is

My Accurate Sci Fi Story
John (Jack) Brugato
ESS 102 AH
Research Paper Rough Draft
4/10/17
Space Debris My scientifically accurate sci fi story will focus on astronauts tasked with aiding in the
clean up of space debris. The story will take place not too far in the future, in a time where space
debris is creating problems for NASA and other space programs. Space debris is proving to be too
dangerous and has resulted in numerous failed missions and destroyed unmanned spacecraft. The
purpose of clearing out the space debris is because NASA discovered a planet that had promising
signs of life and is sending other probes and unmanned spacecraft to investigate further.
What is Space Debris? One issue with space travel has to do with the debris that is ... Show more

The Kessler Syndrome was brought to light in 2009 when the Iridium 33, a United States satellite, was
struck by the Cosmos 2251, an unused Russian satellite. Due to Kepler s laws of orbital motion and
the objects being as close they were to Earth s gravitational pull, the two satellites collided at about
five miles per second (Parker, greeniacs.com). The result of the collision proves Kessler s concerns, as
a cloud of thousands of pieces of broken equipment and satellite parts was created, which is now in
Earth s orbit. The true danger of space debris relies in the speed of each piece. Since each piece travels
at around four to five miles per second, smaller pieces could be catastrophic towards future missions
(Dunbar, nasa.gov). One such case of debris causing damage comes through the missions STS 50 to
STS 114. Over the span of these 54 missions, debris and meteoroids hit the windows of the shuttles
about 1600 times, resulting in 92 replacements (Madrigal, wired.com). The shuttles radiators have also
been hit a number of times, leaving holes in the facesheet. One instance in particular occurred when a
100 micron sized particle hit the window of the STS 50, causing a one millimeter crater (Whitlock,
nasa.gov). These instances show how dangerous even the smallest particles can be for spacecraft.
How is it tracked? Space debris is not going unnoticed however. NASA and the Department of
Defense are tracking

Analysis Of Emma Amos s Sandy And Her Husband
Emma Amos seems like your typical woman with the household duties she upholds. Amos grew up in
Atlanta, where she was surrounded by middle class African Americans. As a mother, she focused on
sewing, weaving, and quilting. Her artwork displays the issues she struggled with as being a black
artist. The artwork Sandy and her Husband portray Emma Amos tuck in the painting overlooking a
man and a woman embracing each other s body in a living room. Amos s artwork wanted people to
see a story being shared. Even though she was a black female artist, her paintings expressed the
concerns of politics, gender, race, and cultural history. Emma s artwork was very impressive. She was
invited to be apart of the Spiral collective. The spiral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the article Emma Amos: Art as Legacy by Lisa E. Farrington composes of Amos s life as an artist,
how she got there, and what she wanted to accomplish as an individual. The spiral collective which
was mentioned earlier was a black and white group started by Woodruff, Romare Bearden and other
eye catching African American artists. Despite the fact that this movement did not last long, it still
shaped a movement. Two years after being found, they decided to put up an art exhibit. Amos
composed a naked portrait of a woman. This portrait was interpreted as a woman without beauty but
with confrontational power. Regardless of that the spiral collective was successful it did result with
international philosophical conflicts. People also argued whether the group should be interracial or
not. When talking about color in art it is a very important tool. In the article it states Color has a very
personal significance for all African American people and this significance also underlies Amos s
work. This is a true statement, because Amos uses vibrant or bold colors in most of her paintings. On
the other hand, Amos does not like to be known as a woman of color. When Amos came to New York
City she realized that New York artists were for males. Even though she worked with male artists in
spiral she still felt downgraded. After spiral ended she decided to go on her own path. Her style in her
artwork was very interesting because

Gun Control And Self-Defense
Self Defense some people take self defense classes to protect themselves from kidnap, fight , or rob.
But, some people carry gun instead of leanings how to fight. In united stairs carry gun is legal,
because It legals, there are shooting in many place such as school, concert, or movie theater. That is
why there are some augment about gun control. People thought that gun should be carried around like
bottle of water. However I believe that carry gun is a big source of self defense, it protects people from
rape and rob. Many women are big rist of rape and violence. Women should carry gun to protect

have right to bear arm. What we need is full education on gun. We need to fully understand how to
correctly use them and understand that nothing scary because they there to protect you. For example,
what if someone breaks in to you house, he has a gun, what would you do? You cant use a knife to
protect yourself. She need gun to shoot gun. According to http://www.cnn.com/profiles/doug criss

Comparing and Contrasting Low-Carbohydrate and Low-Fat Diets
Comparing and Contrasting Low Carbohydrate and Low Fat Diets
The low carbohydrate diet and the low fat diet take two different approaches to achieve the same goal
of weight loss. The fundamental difference between the two diets is found in the comparison of their
nutritional recommendations. Nutritional recommendations are the foundation of both diets, although
their views on the role carbohydrates, proteins, and fats should play differs greatly. Dieters are told
that following these nutritional recommendations will promote weight loss. The amount of weight loss
achieved with either diet fluctuates over time and in the end, the results for the two diets are similar.
Low carbohydrate diets recommend eating foods high in fat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Low fat diets achieve weight loss by requiring dieters to eat lots of carbohydrate rich foods while
restricting fat and protein intake. Low fat diets make a distinction between simple carbohydrates and
complex carbohydrates; foods made up mostly of simple carbohydrates such as sweets and white
bread are discouraged. Complex carbohydrates, such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, make up
60% of the food required for weight loss on a low fat diet. In contrast to the Atkins diet, the low fat
diet restricts fat intake to no more that 25% of total calories. The theory is that diets low in fat and
high in complex carbohydrates help to promote weight loss by not contributing to existing fat stores
and by encouraging the body to utilize those fat stores through calorie restrictions, based on the
amount of calories you burn each day. To figure out ideal calorie consumption dieters can use a
formula provided by the American Heart Association (AHA); this formula uses the dieter s current
weight to determine the ideal calorie intake for weight loss. In contrast to the Atkins diet, the low fat
diet dictates what kinds of fat and protein are best. The low fat diet recommends that fat, when eaten,
be unsaturated and preferably healthful, such as fish or flax oil. It also limits protein intake to legumes
and lean meat, such as chicken and fish. Although the

A Brief Biography of Lois-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre
Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre is historically recognized as a French
artist, a mirror manufacturer, a skilled panoramic painter, and more notably, one the Founding Fathers
of Photography. While Founding Father of Photography is an impressive name to boast, in the
scientific community he is known an accomplished chemist credited with recording some of the first
tangible (non drawn) two dimensional images of our three dimensional world. Louis Daguerre was
born on November 18, 1787 in a French commune called Cormeilles en Parisis in Val d Oise, France.
During his life, he studied and worked heavily with theatre, design, and stage illusions. His
experiments led him to become a prestigious architect and set artist, later inventing the Diorama, a
mobile theatre with set pieces which allowed for the illusion of effects like snow, sunsets, moonlit
nights, and rainbows. Because his craftsmanship required great accuracy, Daguerre saw it important to
capture nature as is . He utilized the camera obscura, dating back to to 470 BCE to optically project
images onto a plane for tracing. Daguerre would eventually adapt concepts used in the camera obscura
for his own work with daguerrotypes. In 1829, at the age of 42, Daguerre partnered with a
chemist/inventor named Nicéphore Niépce to continue experimentation with Niépce s creation, the
heliograph. Made in 1822, the heliograph is a process of drawing with the sun by exposing light onto a

My Love Letter Virus Code
Introduction
The code described is characterized as I Love you virus or Love Letter Virus it was a computer worm
first spotted in Asia, was then caught circulating and contaminating in millions of computer

Creator and his background
Suspect behind Love Letter virus code was Onel A.de Guzman s (age 23), since a similar thesis was
rejected for his graduation course at AMA Computer University in Makati, Philippines, it was made to
steal password from the internet, he and his friend Michael Buen both were members of underground

Regular Warfare Vs Irregular Warfare
The combined characteristics of both Irregular Warfare (IW) and Regular Warfare (RW) define Hybrid
Threat (HT). It is the most comprehensive form of threat. During the Korean War, North Korea (NK)
fought with conventional equipment and tactics. Now, NK is threatening to use Weapons of Mass
Destruction (WMD).This has created a hybrid threat to the United States, and rest of the world. HT is
the co existence of IW and RW and this poses the most complex and multi dimensional Operational
Environment.
Irregular Warfare seeks to influence beliefs, ideologies, and culture. The ultimate objective of IW is to
win a battle without conventional war tactics. (TC 7 100). It is not transparent and not easily observed.

(TC7 100). Their equipment, personnel, and training are modern and non traditional. The US Military
must rely on other allied nations and their forces to combat NK. North Korea s use of unconventional
tactics is currently creating a perceived threat of a national insurgency. The fear is that this will draw
the U.S into a prolonged conflict. Irregular Warfare organizations have no deliberate structure;
however, they function effectively relying on common goals. Victory is not defined by how many
killed, but by 1how much they influenced and shaped policy to achieve goals.
Contrasted to Irregular Warfare, Regular Warfare involves traditional military s with goals of defeating
adversary s armed forces, destroying equipment and seizing territory . (TC 7 100, p.2 2). Armed forces
are comparatively visible and predictable as the personnel and equipment movements are easier to
identify. Traditional military s follow strict rules and law dealing with direct offensive and defensive
operations. During the Korean War, North Korea employed force on force traditional methods of war.
Regular Warfare reveals results faster as the mission is conducted with direct means of military fire

The Federal Budget Deficit And The National Debt
Marilyn Alvarado ECON 2301.SY2
The Federal Budget Deficit and the National Debt
The United States national debt is large. The U.S. Debt to GDP ratio has grown to over 60 percent in
recent years. We are more than $15 trillion in debt. In this paper I will address the federal budget, the
United States debt, and the resulting impacts on society in several sectors.
In our textbook, Principles of Macroeconomics, the relationship between debt and deficit is described.
A deficit is a shortfall in revenue for a particular year s budget. Whereas, a debt is the total of all
accumulated and unpaid deficits. An outlay is an amount of money spent on something. The federal
government outlays are divided into government outlays and mandatory outlays. Government outlays
are the part of the government budget that includes both spending and transfer payments. Mandatory
outlays constitute government spending that is determined by ongoing long term obligations. Of the
two, mandatory outlays is the largest portion of the federal budget. Lastly, Discretionary outlays
compromise government spending that can be altered when the government is setting its annual
budget. A budget surplus occurs when revenue exceeds outlays. A budget deficit occurs when
government outlays exceed revenue. Government spending began to really grow around 2001. This
was partly due to the 9/11 terrorist attack. Additionally, there has been an increase in spending with
Social Security and Medicare. In response to

Evangelical Controversy
Conservatives, Protestants, evangelical and fundamentalist combined religion with politics when they
felt they were misrepresented after World War II. America evangelical retreated from larger society
and constructed institution and networks to protect them because they felt threatened. They isolated
from the society and operated their own churches whose the congregations were white they also build
and run own bible colleges where young people were nurtured and got education on evangelism.

by not fully supporting their agendas. They started Christian coalition not only for presidential
hopefuls but for grassroots positions. In 2000 presidential campaigns, evangelicals had hope in George
Bush the candidate who had evangelical identity. While all this was happening other religion were
mushrooming in America. This religion Included Muslims and also Catholics. After 9/11 attacks were
treated differently. President George Bush made a plea of tolerance between Christians and Muslims.
The immigration of all kind of people and races made religion diversified. Catholics and Pentecostals
were growing quickly through the immigrations from different countries especial those that spoke
Spanish contributed to influx of Catholics. There were also Latino evangelicals which change the
politics. In 2004 George Bush campaign targeted Hispanic voters especially Latino Evangelical. He in

Giant Hogweed Research Paper
The control and eradication of invasive species in Washington State is an important part of
maintaining the diversity and wellbeing of our ecosystems. One invasive species common to us,
Heracleum mantegazzianum, otherwise known as giant hogweed, is a Class A weed and must be
eliminated where encountered (Noxious Weed Control Board). H. mantegazzianum is recognizable by
its immense height of up to 20 feet, and its thick stalks support umbels of small, clustered white
flowers. It can be distinguished from plants of similar appearance by purple blotches located on the
stems (Noxious Weed Control Board). They are commonly found near riverbanks and roadsides. (New
York State Department of Environmental Conservation). H. mantegazzianum owes much of its
success as an invasive species to its reproductive capabilities as an angiosperm. According to Reece et
al, sexual reproduction for the angiosperms begins in the flower on a mature sporophyte plant. Within
the anther the male microsporocytes undergo meiosis to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, it is a threat to native species and perilous to the ecosystems they colonize by stealing
resources. Second, the formation of their roots contributes to soil erosion by the creation of bare soil.
Finally, the sap contained within all parts of the plant sensitizes human skin to UV radiation and leads
to photo dermatitis (Noxious Weed Control Board). For these reasons, it is imperative that this weed is
eradicated in the state of Washington. Different methods of eliminating giant hogweed exist, with
varying results. For young plants, cutting the root 6 inches below the earth can be effective when
infestations are small. For larger infestations and with greater success, herbicides containing triclopyr
or glyphosate may be applied to giant hogweed. Treated infestations must be monitored for many
years following to ensure no regrowth (Nehrbass et

I conducted the first part of my assessment (word lists) to determine what passage would be

worried about not being able to determine students reading level and/or not being able to figure out the
area (i.e. fluency, comprehension, etc.) in which the student needed additional support in. I am happy
to say that it wasn t as scary as I thought. I was surprised how much I learned about the student by
simply reviewing their list of words. It was pretty obvious when they were hitting the frustration level.
September 21, 2017 (8:30 12:30) My classroom experience included: observing the classroom teacher

assisting students with reading worksheets (practice writing their letters and identifying beginning
sounds of words), and reviewing the weekly story with each student. This particular teacher strictly
uses a basal reader (Reading Streets) so I was very interested to observe her teaching using these
particular materials. I have substituted in her classroom many times and have found it very hard to

What is California s laws on self insurance?
Self insurance is a term used infers to a risk fund calculated on the basis of future losses. Under the

any rising claims. Many of the corporations taking self insurance are those frustrated with high cost of

Far-Reaching Implications of Global Warming
Temperature is probably the single most important environmental factor influencing insect behavior,
distribution, development, survival, and reproduction . (Bale et al 2002). Since insects are cold
blooded, the environmental temperature plays a very important role in an insect s homeostasis.
Homeostasis is the relatively constant internal physical and chemical condition that organisms
maintain. Once the temperature has changed from its norm, an insect s daily functions would be
disrupted. It has been estimated that with a 2 degree Celsius temperature increase insects might
experience one to five additional life cycles per season (Yamamura Kiritani 1998). Scientists believe a
warmer climate may result in higher insect populations. However, studies have shown that butterflies
prefer a cooler climate. The butterfly population is decreasing at sea level but is increasing at tree line
as butterflies migrate to cooler areas. For example, the Brown Argus Butterfly has shifted where its
populations are most dense; a butterfly that was once predominantly found in Southern Britain, has
now relocated to Northern Britain, a dramatic change of 79 kilometers. Butterflies at the highest
elevation site are appearing with increasing regularity. Those that normally breed at 7,000 feet now
breed at 9,000 feet. When an area changes from rural to urban or suburban, the greatest butterfly
losses occur. This proves that global warming is having an effect on organisms, even if the change

The Destructors Analysis
Stephen Alexander Smith
Miss Shackel
AP English Literature
13 September 2017
A Changing Class System War brings chaos and death, but it also serves to change society. Graham
Greene s short story The Destructors takes place in London, England during the 1950 s, when England
is slowly rising out of the rubble and devastation caused by World War II only 9 years ago. During the
time before the World Wars, England had a stern social order that made it extremely difficult for
someone to achieve higher social status starting from the bottom. World War II brings change to the
social hierarchy, causing the rich and middle class to lose their opulence and granting the the lower
classes more mobility. The characterizations of Trevor, the newest addition to the Wormsley Common
Gang, Mr. Thomas, a pretentious old man, and the lorry driver, the man who drove the car that pulled
down Mr. Thomas s house, all represent different attitudes toward social hierarchy. Graham Greene
uses Trevor, Mr. Thomas, lorry driver, and plot to signify different class distinctions and to display
how the gang fights against previous social order. Trevor and the Wormsley Common Gang defy the
materialism of the older generation and the notion that the upper classes are superior. The reader
learns that the gang does not refer to Trevor by his name and instead call him, T., as he was afterwards
referred to (Greene 116). The members of the Wormsley Common Gang understand that Trevor is the

Volkswagen s The Environmental Protection Agency
Volkswagen has found itself entangled in one of the most serious automotive scandals today. On
September 18th, 2015 Volkswagen was accused of installing defective devices into their V6 diesel
automobiles; the cars of Audi, Porsche, and Volkswagen, all owned by Volkswagen AG (Customer
Report, customerreports.org) were all affected. When the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
was informed of this allegation, they set out an investigation to see whether this was true or false.
The news broke when the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) had determined that
Volkswagen had installed a defeat device, otherwise known as a software code used to cheat on
emissions tests, on approximately 11 million vehicles in the US and Germany (Jason Bisnoff,
NYDailyNews.com). This device would enable the Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) to be trapped during the
testing phase, and at the point it was taken off the dynamometer test device the vehicle would pick up
signals that the car is going on the road and the trap would shutoff. By Volkswagen making this
horrific adjustment, they have supported one of the key ingredients in the release of a highly
poisonous gas into the environment which produces smog, contributes to cardiovascular problems,
and respiratory problems, such as asthma, and also produces acid rain. This is a bigger issue for the
people who live in Silicon Valley, and all around Southern California; this is very important as people

The Value Of Skate Culture
Several years ago, I lived with former pro skater Josh Kasper. One Saturday, Josh and I were lounging
around the house playing chess (BTW, Josh is also somewhat of a chess aficionado). During our
conversation, he mentioned that in skate culture to injuries was a type badge of honor. That s within
the skate culture, and the value of a bump or bruise as a badge of honor in skate culture doesn t really
apply to many other professions or sub cultures. Though, it seems that within various groups, there is
always something that carries a value within that group that makes members of that group feel
honored because of an inflated value from other members in that group. That thing, that title or badge,

Supply And Demand For Real Estate
INTRODUCTION
Within the property industry, the ever changing nature of the real estate market is affecting supply and
demand for real estate. As a result, a key issue stemming from reducing demand is increasing office
vacancy in Brisbane s central business district which reached a high of 15.6% in January 2015,
according to the Property Council of Australia (2015). Current literature suggests that the lack of
demand can be attributed to negative net absorption by the government and resources sectors, office
over supply, low business confidence and high unemployment rates (Property Council of Australia
2015). This is making office space difficult to lease, increasing financial stress on property owners and
changing how the office investment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Did The Hyksos Affect Egypt
The Hyksos had a technological, political and economic impact on Egypt. The technological

Egypt s subjection to Hyksos rule had disrupted their feelings of safety, and thus enabled their
awareness of security. This is first seen in Ahmose I s introduction of buffer regions between Egypt
and its Asian enemies. Furthermore, Egypt s subjugation of foreign threats in efforts to assure
prevention of future invasion reflects their new mentality. These actions exemplify Egypt s adoption
of an imperialist policy, accomplished by their adoption of Hyksos weaponry. Accordingly, M. Hayes
exemplifies the impact of the Hyksos in stating that the new warrior pharaoh s would conquer to the
limits of the world to ensure Egypt was as safe as it had once been. Thus, the Hyksos occupation had
impacted the Egyptian s political power and in turn influenced their policy on foreign powers.
Additionally, though the Hyksos occupation had undermined the Egyptians economically, the
innovations they introduced eventually enabled Egypt to financially grow. It is evident that the Hyksos
had compromised the Egyptians financially in their demands of tribute from the 17th Dynasty.
Evidence for this can be found in the Kamose stela, where he asserts that they were despoiled by the

The Effect Of Data On A Company s Level Of Success
1)With the amount of data that is necessary for an organisation to succeed, it is often difficult to
determine where to allocate their resources in order to best collect that information. The quality,
relevance and timeliness of data is vital to a company s level of success in regard to achieving their
goals in order to use their time and resources most efficiently many organisations will turn to the use
of proxies.
As such, many companies use a number of sources in order to gauge what another group of data could

3) The business dictionary s definition of a ratio is; [a] Ratio [is] the simplest mathematical
(statistical) tool that reveals significant relationships hidden in mass of data, and allow meaningful
comparisons. The affordability ratio is a measure of how affordable it is to buy a property. The higher
the ratio, the less affordable it is for people to get onto the property ladder. Therefore, showing that a
relationship can be construed using the affordability ratio, thus showing it is, in fact, a ratio. In the
context of buying a house the use of an affordability ratio is beneficial, as it gives the buyer an
indication as to whether or not they can afford the property.
When looking at Chart 2 we can see that since the 1980s the income multiple has mostly increased
which shows us that the affordability of housing has decreased.
4) LTV (loan to value) measures the size of a new secured loan for house purchase, relative to the

Buddhism And The Noble Eightfold Path
Siddhartha Gautama was the founder of Buddhism (Van Voorst, R, 2013). Gautama lived a life of a
prince until he witnessed physical suffering in the world. Upon observing the suffering, Gautama
decided to give up everything to become a holy man. He created the Middle Path meaning the moment
between self denial and regular life. He discovered the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold
Path, (Van Voorst, R, 2013).
The basic characteristics of Buddhism are meditating, prayer, rest, exercise, lecture and small group
discussion with other Buddhists in Zen centers and temples around the world. Buddhists believe that
Siddhartha Gautama discovered the Middle Path out of suffering, reaching the full enlightenment that
rescued him from constant reincarnation into this world (Voorst, R., 2013) .

Julius Caesar Tragic Figure Quotes
After reading the Tragedy of Julius Caesar, think who best fits the role of a tragic figure
In this play? There are many tragic figures, but the one who stands out the most and who practically
defines the play as a tragedy would be Brutus. In the Tragedy of Julius Caesar, William Shakespeare
portrays Brutus as the tragic figure. Marcus Brutus fits Aristotle s definition of a tragic figure.
Aristotle s definition explains a tragic figure as a [great] man who is neither a paragon of virtue and
justice nor undergoes the change to misfortune through any real badness or wickedness but because of
some mistake.
Aristotle defines a great man as a man of noble birth who is neither a model of perfection nor totally
evil. He defines a mistake or hamartia as a flaw. The great man falls through though not entirely
because of some weakness of character, some moral blindness, or error. Brutus fits this description,

for wanting Caesar dead. Whether or not Brutus decision to join the conspirators and their pan for

The Spot Of The Corner
The Spot in the Corner Life is made of a huge collection of experiences, whether good or bad, that
leave an impression on oneself. Some of these experiences are recorded in memory, and others simply
forgotten. In any case, all these experiences take part in a particular place. So, depending on the type
of experience, these specific places acquire some significance. For example, many married couples
can identify the exact location where they decided to join their lives as well as they can remember
exactly where they got the first kiss. All memory has a context of space and time; for this reason, with
the passage of time we can give more meaning to some places than others. When I was younger, I did
not realize the significance of many places that were an important part of my life until I was thousands
of miles away from them. But I can identify one particular place that has been connected to my life
experiences for a long time. My most significant place was a corner in the second floor s living room
of my house in my hometown in Bolivia. This particular place marked the changing rhythm of my life,
since I was a little boy until I left my country. In the beginning this place was only one spot in the west
part of a living room that almost never was used. The first time I saw this spot it was only a boring
place with an old bookshelf with four drawers and a picture hanging on the wall. The first part that
caught my attention in that place was just that picture, which at first

Plastic Surgery As Bodily Reconstruction For Wounded Soldiers
Plastic surgery began as bodily reconstruction for wounded soldiers in World War I. The surgery
developed in stages, starting with correcting traumatic injuries and deformed facial features. The more
cosmetic focus began in the 1970 s, with creating perfected facial features and making aesthetically
pleasing body parts. Cosmetic surgery boomed in the 1990 s, with 1.2 million procedures performed
in the United States alone (plasticsurgery.org). The swiftness in which these procedures have
infiltrated society has lead to a change in our view of the value of the body. The modern ease and
accessibility of cosmetic surgery has intensified the need for external beauty and has influenced the
loss of personal identity. Fascination with external ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Patients opting for cosmetic surgery have a face in mind and it is usually a celebrity s. In Abby Ellin s
article, several patients got plastic surgery just to look like a certain person. For example, 41 year old
Deborah Davenport spent 15,000 dollars on shaving cartilage from her nose, adding botox to her
forehead, and pumping dermal filler into her cheeks to look like Kate Winslet (Galileo). While Ms.
Davenport looked perfectly normal after her procedures, most often than not, people who get plastic
surgery to imitate a celebrity usually end up disastrous. Kevin Fallon s article mentions Claire Leeson,
a woman who spent over 30,000 dollars on surgery to look like Kim Kardashian. The final result was
admittedly dreadful (thedailybeast.com). While Davenport and Leeson had different results from their
celebrity look alike procedures, both claimed to be much happier after the surgery (Galileo,
thedailybeast.com). Even if the face is not what would be considered actually beautiful, just the fact
that the face resembles a celebrity seems to influence the perception that it is perfect anyway. This
fascination and surety that celebrities contain the holy grail of external beauty reflects upon our
certainty that there is a specific standard of beauty, and in order to fit in, we must perfect ourselves to
meet this standard. There is a common belief that cosmetic surgery exists to make the body better and
yet, there also seems to be an underlying notion that

Elasticity of Demand
The purpose of this essay is to define elasticity of demand, cross price elasticity, income elasticity, and
explain the elastic coefficients for each. I will explain the contrast of and significance of difference
between the three. I will also explain whether demand would tend to be more or less elastic for
availability of substitutes, share of consumer income devoted to a good, and consumer s time horizon,
and give examples of each. Then, I will explain the logical impacts to business decision making that
result from each. Last, I will differentiate between perfectly inelastic demand and perfectly inelastic
demand, and illustrate the difference between the terms. Elasticity of demand, also known as price
demand elasticity, is defined as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The coefficient for elasticity of demand measures the relationship between two variables. A formula
for figuring out the coefficient of elasticity of demand is: (percentage change in quantity) / (percentage
change in price). The coefficient will be the percentage change in quantity demanded in response to a
one percent change in price, and will determine is if the demand for a good is elastic (eod gt;1) or
inelastic (eod lt;1). Knowing the coefficient for the demand of a product gives a business the edge
because they will know when to make adjustments to price in order to increase the demand for a
product. Cross price elasticity, Income elasticity, and Elasticity of demand all have different
coefficient formulas. The difference between cross price elasticity and income elasticity is that cross
price elasticity measure the percentage of change in demand of a product in relation to change in
price, while income elasticity measures changes in demand in relation to changes in income. The
difference between these two and elasticity of demand is that elasticity of demand measures the
responsiveness of demand to a change in price. Elasticity of demand determines whether a company
can increase or reduce their price on a product, and is therefore detrimental to a company that is trying
to maximize their profits. Cross price

What We Are Advertisers By James Twitchell
Advertising has come a long way in terms of advancement with the enlightenment of the new
technological age we live in now. In James Twitchell s essay What We Are to Advertisers, the author
explains that mass production means mass marketing, and mass marketing means the creation of mass
stereotypes. Generally, the use of stereotypical profiling in our society not only exists in regards to
race, social class, personality type, and gender but also holds a special meaning in advertising circles
as well. To advertisers, stereotyping has become an effective means to pitch their products according
to the personality profiles they have concocted for us and are most times eerily accurate. For instance,

The Believers are people who support traditional codes of family, church, and community, wearing
good Republican cloth coats. These are predictable people who wear and recognize brand names. The
Achievers are not only successful, but they demonstrate their success by buying objects such as
prestige cars to show it. The Strivers are usually a little unsure of themselves. They are willing to buy
brands as long as it is a prestigious name brand. According to Twitchell, Money defines their success
but they don t have enough of it (Twitchell). The Experiencers live life on the edge. They are
enthusiastic, impulsive, and even a little reckless sometimes. The Makers are practical people. They
are conservative, suspicious, and respectful. The Strugglers are usually chronically poor people who
enjoy materialism whenever they can afford it. It s amazing yet spooky how the advertising industry
can categorize us into these stereotypical profiles so accurately just by watching our behaviors,
observing our lifestyles, ascertaining our disposable income, and studying our set of values. Is our
buying pattern really connected to the things we believe in and what we do for a living? Whether we
are consciously aware of it or not, it is personally amazing just how much a simple purchase can

Bruce Dawe Consumerism
Good afternoon/morning ladies and gentlemen. Consumerism is defined by the English oxford
dictionary as continual expansion of one s wants and needs for goods and services. Bruce Dawes
poems Televistas and Enter Without So Much As Knocking critique the powerful and persuasive
influence that companies have on our society.
Consumerism leads to self gratification and the loss of life s important values such as friendship, love
and religion; this is an ever growing issue that manipulates and deceives society and has done so since
the beginning of the technological age.
Bruce Dawes poetry highlights his concerns and devotion towards the ordinary consumer and how

The poem Enter without so much as knocking begins with the innocence of a baby being exposed to
the harsh materialistic world seconds after birth. The capitalization of the words HOSPITAL
SILENCE presents the idea of sings which are controlling the way we live. This is reinforced further
into the poem when the baby is considered an adult and is truly introduced to the consumerism of the
society.
Capitalized words again represent the words the man reads on signs. Dawe mocks these signs by
including NO BREATHING EXCEPT BY ORDER which is using irony, as it is impossible to be able
to control when people can and cant breathe. At the end of the poem the non capitalization of the

Everything in the universe is dependent on God and no being live or not can do without Him. God
sustains everything in the universe (1) and man is expected to wholly depend on Him and be aware of
this unseen being. The Qur an teaches it is rational and reasonable to have faith in the omnipotent and
merciful God, as He is central to human existence. He is part of creation and not detached in any way
to it and man s main purpose is to serve him diligently. It comes as a God s command that every being
must adhere to the teachings of the Qur an as they carry the intent and the expectations of God to man.
In His ways of helping man, God shows mercy by sending him messengers and through revelations
(9). Through this man is expected to understand and be aware of God s existence and conduct himself
as deserved. In this way, man is guided and judged on the correct way to keep close and the laws of

  • 2. Horse Primates Compare And Contrast When we see an animal, do we ever think about what is going on deeper than the eye can see? Do you ever think about all the things firing inside to keep things in balance and the animal functioning? Horses and primates have many similarities as well as differences. Starting with the skeletal system, the skulls on a primate and a horse are quite different. A primate s skull usually lacks the large sagittal crest (Cavendish, 2010, pg.10). Just like a horse, they also have very powerful jaws for chewing their food. They have very pronounced brow bones, and a large forehead. However, in horses and in primates the head is very proportioned with the whole body. Horses foreheads are typically flat and broad, while a primate s skull is quite smaller and more rounded. Primates have a very flexible and short neck, while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They consume foods such as fruits, leaves, bark, stems, insects, and even other primates. Nothing is off limits (Cavendish, 2010, pg.19). Horses on the other hand are herbivores, so they only eat plant based foods. Horses have hindgut fermenters, which mean that they only have one stomach, but it contains four different compartments to digest food. This contains the reticulum, rumen, omasum, and the abomasum which is the true stomach. They also have a flap that hangs over the distal end of the esophagus which prevents them from vomiting. Primates on the other hand, can vomit. Since horses have hindgut fermenters, digestion is broken down into multiple segments. Those segments include the cecum, ventral colon, and the dorsal colon (Miyaji, 2014). Primates digest their food a little differently. There aren t many compartments the food has to travel through. Food travels down the esophagus into the stomach, where it is met by stomach acid and food is broken down and passed through the small and large intestine, nutrients are absorbed, and the waste is ... • 3. My Accurate Sci Fi Story John (Jack) Brugato ESS 102 AH Research Paper Rough Draft 4/10/17 Space Debris My scientifically accurate sci fi story will focus on astronauts tasked with aiding in the clean up of space debris. The story will take place not too far in the future, in a time where space debris is creating problems for NASA and other space programs. Space debris is proving to be too dangerous and has resulted in numerous failed missions and destroyed unmanned spacecraft. The purpose of clearing out the space debris is because NASA discovered a planet that had promising signs of life and is sending other probes and unmanned spacecraft to investigate further. What is Space Debris? One issue with space travel has to do with the debris that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Kessler Syndrome was brought to light in 2009 when the Iridium 33, a United States satellite, was struck by the Cosmos 2251, an unused Russian satellite. Due to Kepler s laws of orbital motion and the objects being as close they were to Earth s gravitational pull, the two satellites collided at about five miles per second (Parker, greeniacs.com). The result of the collision proves Kessler s concerns, as a cloud of thousands of pieces of broken equipment and satellite parts was created, which is now in Earth s orbit. The true danger of space debris relies in the speed of each piece. Since each piece travels at around four to five miles per second, smaller pieces could be catastrophic towards future missions (Dunbar, nasa.gov). One such case of debris causing damage comes through the missions STS 50 to STS 114. Over the span of these 54 missions, debris and meteoroids hit the windows of the shuttles about 1600 times, resulting in 92 replacements (Madrigal, wired.com). The shuttles radiators have also been hit a number of times, leaving holes in the facesheet. One instance in particular occurred when a 100 micron sized particle hit the window of the STS 50, causing a one millimeter crater (Whitlock, nasa.gov). These instances show how dangerous even the smallest particles can be for spacecraft. How is it tracked? Space debris is not going unnoticed however. NASA and the Department of Defense are tracking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Emma Amos s Sandy And Her Husband Emma Amos seems like your typical woman with the household duties she upholds. Amos grew up in Atlanta, where she was surrounded by middle class African Americans. As a mother, she focused on sewing, weaving, and quilting. Her artwork displays the issues she struggled with as being a black artist. The artwork Sandy and her Husband portray Emma Amos tuck in the painting overlooking a man and a woman embracing each other s body in a living room. Amos s artwork wanted people to see a story being shared. Even though she was a black female artist, her paintings expressed the concerns of politics, gender, race, and cultural history. Emma s artwork was very impressive. She was invited to be apart of the Spiral collective. The spiral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the article Emma Amos: Art as Legacy by Lisa E. Farrington composes of Amos s life as an artist, how she got there, and what she wanted to accomplish as an individual. The spiral collective which was mentioned earlier was a black and white group started by Woodruff, Romare Bearden and other eye catching African American artists. Despite the fact that this movement did not last long, it still shaped a movement. Two years after being found, they decided to put up an art exhibit. Amos composed a naked portrait of a woman. This portrait was interpreted as a woman without beauty but with confrontational power. Regardless of that the spiral collective was successful it did result with international philosophical conflicts. People also argued whether the group should be interracial or not. When talking about color in art it is a very important tool. In the article it states Color has a very personal significance for all African American people and this significance also underlies Amos s work. This is a true statement, because Amos uses vibrant or bold colors in most of her paintings. On the other hand, Amos does not like to be known as a woman of color. When Amos came to New York City she realized that New York artists were for males. Even though she worked with male artists in spiral she still felt downgraded. After spiral ended she decided to go on her own path. Her style in her artwork was very interesting because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing and Contrasting Low-Carbohydrate and Low-Fat Diets Comparing and Contrasting Low Carbohydrate and Low Fat Diets The low carbohydrate diet and the low fat diet take two different approaches to achieve the same goal of weight loss. The fundamental difference between the two diets is found in the comparison of their nutritional recommendations. Nutritional recommendations are the foundation of both diets, although their views on the role carbohydrates, proteins, and fats should play differs greatly. Dieters are told that following these nutritional recommendations will promote weight loss. The amount of weight loss achieved with either diet fluctuates over time and in the end, the results for the two diets are similar. Low carbohydrate diets recommend eating foods high in fat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Low fat diets achieve weight loss by requiring dieters to eat lots of carbohydrate rich foods while restricting fat and protein intake. Low fat diets make a distinction between simple carbohydrates and complex carbohydrates; foods made up mostly of simple carbohydrates such as sweets and white bread are discouraged. Complex carbohydrates, such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, make up 60% of the food required for weight loss on a low fat diet. In contrast to the Atkins diet, the low fat diet restricts fat intake to no more that 25% of total calories. The theory is that diets low in fat and high in complex carbohydrates help to promote weight loss by not contributing to existing fat stores and by encouraging the body to utilize those fat stores through calorie restrictions, based on the amount of calories you burn each day. To figure out ideal calorie consumption dieters can use a formula provided by the American Heart Association (AHA); this formula uses the dieter s current weight to determine the ideal calorie intake for weight loss. In contrast to the Atkins diet, the low fat diet dictates what kinds of fat and protein are best. The low fat diet recommends that fat, when eaten, be unsaturated and preferably healthful, such as fish or flax oil. It also limits protein intake to legumes and lean meat, such as chicken and fish. While Founding Father of Photography is an impressive name to boast, in the scientific community he is known an accomplished chemist credited with recording some of the first tangible (non drawn) two dimensional images of our three dimensional world. Louis Daguerre was born on November 18, 1787 in a French commune called Cormeilles en Parisis in Val d Oise, France. During his life, he studied and worked heavily with theatre, design, and stage illusions. His experiments led him to become a prestigious architect and set artist, later inventing the Diorama, a mobile theatre with set pieces which allowed for the illusion of effects like snow, sunsets, moonlit nights, and rainbows. Because his craftsmanship required great accuracy, Daguerre saw it important to capture nature as is . He utilized the camera obscura, dating back to to 470 BCE to optically project images onto a plane for tracing. Daguerre would eventually adapt concepts used in the camera obscura for his own work with daguerrotypes. In 1829, at the age of 42, Daguerre partnered with a chemist/inventor named Nicéphore Niépce to continue experimentation with Niépce s creation, the heliograph. The U.S. Debt to GDP ratio has grown to over 60 percent in recent years. We are more than $15 trillion in debt. In this paper I will address the federal budget, the United States debt, and the resulting impacts on society in several sectors. In our textbook, Principles of Macroeconomics, the relationship between debt and deficit is described. A deficit is a shortfall in revenue for a particular year s budget. Whereas, a debt is the total of all accumulated and unpaid deficits. An outlay is an amount of money spent on something. The federal government outlays are divided into government outlays and mandatory outlays. Government outlays are the part of the government budget that includes both spending and transfer payments. Mandatory outlays constitute government spending that is determined by ongoing long term obligations. Of the two, mandatory outlays is the largest portion of the federal budget. Lastly, Discretionary outlays compromise government spending that can be altered when the government is setting its annual budget. A budget surplus occurs when revenue exceeds outlays. A budget deficit occurs when government outlays exceed revenue. Government spending began to really grow around 2001. This was partly due to the 9/11 terrorist attack. • 16. Far-Reaching Implications of Global Warming Temperature is probably the single most important environmental factor influencing insect behavior, distribution, development, survival, and reproduction . (Bale et al 2002). Since insects are cold blooded, the environmental temperature plays a very important role in an insect s homeostasis. Homeostasis is the relatively constant internal physical and chemical condition that organisms maintain. Once the temperature has changed from its norm, an insect s daily functions would be disrupted. It has been estimated that with a 2 degree Celsius temperature increase insects might experience one to five additional life cycles per season (Yamamura Kiritani 1998). Scientists believe a warmer climate may result in higher insect populations. However, studies have shown that butterflies prefer a cooler climate. The butterfly population is decreasing at sea level but is increasing at tree line as butterflies migrate to cooler areas. For example, the Brown Argus Butterfly has shifted where its populations are most dense; a butterfly that was once predominantly found in Southern Britain, has now relocated to Northern Britain, a dramatic change of 79 kilometers. Butterflies at the highest elevation site are appearing with increasing regularity. Those that normally breed at 7,000 feet now breed at 9,000 feet. When an area changes from rural to urban or suburban, the greatest butterfly losses occur. This proves that global warming is having an effect on organisms, even if the change ... Graham Greene s short story The Destructors takes place in London, England during the 1950 s, when England is slowly rising out of the rubble and devastation caused by World War II only 9 years ago. During the time before the World Wars, England had a stern social order that made it extremely difficult for someone to achieve higher social status starting from the bottom. World War II brings change to the social hierarchy, causing the rich and middle class to lose their opulence and granting the the lower classes more mobility. The characterizations of Trevor, the newest addition to the Wormsley Common Gang, Mr. Thomas, a pretentious old man, and the lorry driver, the man who drove the car that pulled down Mr. Thomas s house, all represent different attitudes toward social hierarchy. Graham Greene uses Trevor, Mr. Thomas, lorry driver, and plot to signify different class distinctions and to display how the gang fights against previous social order. Trevor and the Wormsley Common Gang defy the materialism of the older generation and the notion that the upper classes are superior. The affordability ratio is a measure of how affordable it is to buy a property. The higher the ratio, the less affordable it is for people to get onto the property ladder. Therefore, showing that a relationship can be construed using the affordability ratio, thus showing it is, in fact, a ratio. In the context of buying a house the use of an affordability ratio is beneficial, as it gives the buyer an indication as to whether or not they can afford the property. When looking at Chart 2 we can see that since the 1980s the income multiple has mostly increased which shows us that the affordability of housing has decreased. 4) LTV (loan to value) measures the size of a new secured loan for house purchase, relative to the purchase price of the property. • 31. The Spot Of The Corner The Spot in the Corner Life is made of a huge collection of experiences, whether good or bad, that leave an impression on oneself. Some of these experiences are recorded in memory, and others simply forgotten. In any case, all these experiences take part in a particular place. So, depending on the type of experience, these specific places acquire some significance. For example, many married couples can identify the exact location where they decided to join their lives as well as they can remember exactly where they got the first kiss. All memory has a context of space and time; for this reason, with the passage of time we can give more meaning to some places than others. When I was younger, I did not realize the significance of many places that were an important part of my life until I was thousands of miles away from them. But I can identify one particular place that has been connected to my life experiences for a long time. My most significant place was a corner in the second floor s living room of my house in my hometown in Bolivia. This particular place marked the changing rhythm of my life, since I was a little boy until I left my country. In the beginning this place was only one spot in the west part of a living room that almost never was used. Cosmetic surgery boomed in the 1990 s, with 1.2 million procedures performed in the United States alone (plasticsurgery.org). In Abby Ellin s article, several patients got plastic surgery just to look like a certain person. For example, 41 year old Deborah Davenport spent 15,000 dollars on shaving cartilage from her nose, adding botox to her forehead, and pumping dermal filler into her cheeks to look like Kate Winslet (Galileo). While Ms. Davenport looked perfectly normal after her procedures, most often than not, people who get plastic surgery to imitate a celebrity usually end up disastrous. Kevin Fallon s article mentions Claire Leeson, a woman who spent over 30,000 dollars on surgery to look like Kim Kardashian. The final result was admittedly dreadful (thedailybeast.com). While Davenport and Leeson had different results from their celebrity look alike procedures, both claimed to be much happier after the surgery (Galileo, thedailybeast.com). Even if the face is not what would be considered actually beautiful, just the fact that the face resembles a celebrity seems to influence the perception that it is perfect anyway. This fascination and surety that celebrities contain the holy grail of external beauty reflects upon our certainty that there is a specific standard of beauty, and in order to fit in, we must perfect ourselves to meet this standard. I will explain the contrast of and significance of difference between the three. I will also explain whether demand would tend to be more or less elastic for availability of substitutes, share of consumer income devoted to a good, and consumer s time horizon, and give examples of each. Then, I will explain the logical impacts to business decision making that result from each. Last, I will differentiate between perfectly inelastic demand and perfectly inelastic demand, and illustrate the difference between the terms. The coefficient for elasticity of demand measures the relationship between two variables. A formula for figuring out the coefficient of elasticity of demand is: (percentage change in quantity) / (percentage change in price). The coefficient will be the percentage change in quantity demanded in response to a one percent change in price, and will determine is if the demand for a good is elastic (eod gt;1) or inelastic (eod lt;1). Knowing the coefficient for the demand of a product gives a business the edge because they will know when to make adjustments to price in order to increase the demand for a product. Cross price elasticity, Income elasticity, and Elasticity of demand all have different coefficient formulas. The difference between cross price elasticity and income elasticity is that cross price elasticity measure the percentage of change in demand of a product in relation to change in price, while income elasticity measures changes in demand in relation to changes in income. The difference between these two and elasticity of demand is that elasticity of demand measures the responsiveness of demand to a change in price. Elasticity of demand determines whether a company can increase or reduce their price on a product, and is therefore detrimental to a company that is trying to maximize their profits. Cross price ... In James Twitchell s essay What We Are to Advertisers, the author explains that mass production means mass marketing, and mass marketing means the creation of mass stereotypes. Generally, the use of stereotypical profiling in our society not only exists in regards to race, social class, personality type, and gender but also holds a special meaning in advertising circles as well. To advertisers, stereotyping has become an effective means to pitch their products according to the personality profiles they have concocted for us and are most times eerily accurate.
