Perseverance In Novella Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank...
Perseverance by: David morin The idea that perseverance is an essential human quality is
displayed In the Novella Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption by Stephen King. King
shows that perseverance is an essential human quality through a character named andy dufresne
the main protagonists. Throughout the story Andy is faced with many difficult scenarios that
the average man would never have to overcome but andy perseveres and triumphs over all that is
thrown at him and is entitled as a shawshank legend in the end. King also shows how if one does
not persevere they will fail this is shown through a character named Brooks Hatlen Well andy is
serving at shawshank it is may of 1950 and a few prisoners have been tasked with a job of taring
the roof of a license plate factory. Well the prisoners are hard at work a strict and very violent
prison guard named byron hadley and a few others are accompanying the prisoners . Well tarring

can react violently andy says to him Do you trust your wife mr hadley (King pge 44) , stunned
by what andy says to him hadley says :i ll give you one chance to pick up that tar brush or your

Demographic Transition Of Pre Industrial
demographic transition theory is a widespread explanation of the changing mold of humanity,
fertility and increase rates as civilizations move from one demographic system to another. The term
was first coined by the American demographer Frank W. Notestein in the mid twentieth century, but
it has since been elaborated and expanded upon by many others (The Demographic Transition,
2012). There are four stages of demographic transition.
The first stage of the demographic transition is called pre industrial. In this stage, the population is
stable. The birth and death rates are both high. The death rates are at a high due to the increase of
disease, poor medical and personal hygiene care along with the limited supplies of food. With the
death rates being high, people are having more babies to help with mortality rates being so high.
With the birth and death rates being equal, the population growth stays at a zero.
The second stage of the demographic transition theory is called the transitional stage. In this state
the population starts to increase. This happens because the birth rates are high and the death rates
are starting to decline. The second stage is when the development of modern medicine and food
distribution is started to take hold and the death rate starts to diminish. (Saucedo, 2011)
The reason the death rates are starting to decline is due to the reason that the country is
transitioning into an industrial county. This means that there are improvements in the

It has always been truly astonishing how one cell can multiply into thousands. That one cell can

Is Diversity an Issue Within Law Enforcement From the Past...
The term diversity refers to the condition of being diverse; thus, composed of distinct forms or
qualities (The Merriam Webster Dictionary, 2004). Looking back at the history of the U.S., there
has always been a diverse population in many jurisdictions. But did policy agency workforces
mirror this diversity of the communities they served? When in the past the issue of diversity within
law enforcement was at stake, where the same measures used today the same as the in the past? The
U.S s law enforcement mores originate from the English Law Enforcement. When the U.S. came
into being with the endorsement of the Constitution, the twofold sovereignty of state and
democracy required the designation of distinct officers to represent the... Show more content on

This division in society even went further to discriminate depending on an individual s social status,
duration in the U.S., sexual orientation, and racial backgrounds. Women who were hired as police
officers were appointed duties that did not require them to work street patrol. New York City
employed its first police matron in 1845 and in 1888 together with Massachusetts voted for a
statute that required communities with a population of over 20,000 to hire police matrons to
care for female prisoners (Shusta, Levine, Wong, Olson, and Harris, 2010, p. 51; Felperin,
2004). This created a path for more women officers to be hired. In 1905, the Portland, Oregon
Police Department appointed its first woman [Lola Baldwin] sworn as a police officer but not
allowed to patrol. The International Association of Chiefs of Police passed a resolution in 1922
supporting the use of police women [but did not work as patrol or detectives]. The Indianapolis
Police Department assigned the first two female officers on patrol in 1968 and in 1985, Portland,
Oregon appointed the first woman [Penny Harrington] Chief of Police. Laws such as Title VII of
the Civil Rights Act contributed to the hiring of women in the law enforcement field (Shusta et al.,
2010, p. 51; Felperin, 2004). Although women were admitted early with restricted jobs, minorities
such as blacks and Latinos had a lengthy way to fight for their representation within law
enforcement in the intensifying diverse

Podcasts And Content Marketing Essay
Content marketing began as a simple concept; one simply wrote blogs and articles related to
specific products and/or services and promoted them; however, content creation in 2018 has come
full circle. Businesses today have tried to keep up with content trends and have used different tools
to promote content in 2018.
Podcasts and Content Marketing
One of these content trends is the use of podcasts. Keep in mind that podcasting has been used by
many professions for quite some time now but its use in content marketing is relatively new.
Podcasting is fast catching. Approximately 40% people in the US listen to at least one podcast on
a regular basis. This trend has been observed in both genders. In addition, podcast listeners often

Format: Set up your basic show format. There is no right or wrong way to set up a podcast. The
important thing is that you feel comfortable with the entire idea, flow, and format. Some
podcasters ask questions from the listeners, others only provide a running commentary, and yet
others wait until the end to answer questions. However, for effective content creation in 2018, it
might be a good idea to interview an expert who answers relevant questions. This way you can
provide your audience with a more credible source and you also don t have to answer every
question that your audience may ask.
Length: Remember, a podcast should not go on forever. Most people keep it for 45 60 minutes.
This seems like an appropriate length because anything longer than this could bore your listeners
and force them to sign off.
Engaging the listeners: One of the most critical elements of a podcast is that it should have content
that is both engaging and interesting for the audience. An effective way to do so is by picking up
trending topics, invite guests and experts and keep the flow of information smooth and relevant.
Your audience wants to learn something and they want to derive information from your podcast.
You need to make sure you are able to provide the information. Therefore, your best content advice

The Art of War Analysis
The Art of War Analysis The Art of War was one of our world s first written documents that dealt
with militaristic strategies and advancements. The book was written by a Chinese military leader
named Sun Tzu, who commanded and analyzed his military over the Warring States Period of
China. Sun Tzu produced this text in an attempt to provide future militaryadvantages for the
Chinese, but The Art of War s ideas eventually spread to neighboring civilizations and empires. The
ideas and facts expressed in Sun Tzu s writings proved effective as military groups became more
powerful through the writings. Throughout The Art of War, Sun Tzu expressed his views and
tactics primarily in moral ethics, intelligence, environmental tactics, and... Show more content on

Fighting in one s homeland will lead to better conditions for the army that originated in that area
because they know of the environment and what it takes to survive there. Sun Tzu explains his
opinions of military tactics on six types of terrain and all of them easily gave the best advantages
to the military that used them. The last topic that Sun Tzu took great pride in was military
leadership. Since Sun Tzu was a general, he knew how to run an army to its best conditions with
a minimal amount of casualties. During the text, Sun Tzu states, Now the general is the pillar of
the state; if the pillar has mastered all points of war, the state will be strong; if the pillar is
defective, the state will be week. (p. #1) Tzu is using the general s leadership as a supporting
structure to the whole empire or civilization. If the military leader is dysfunctional, then the
whole state or empire will be dysfunctional as well. The Art of War also states, The masterful
leader cultivates the moral law, and strictly adheres to proper methods and discipline; thus it is
his power to control success. (p. #1) The leader must also have great morals in order to run a great
military and these morals by which the leader lives by will serve as models for the civilization. A
great military starts with a great leader, and

In contrast to Schumpeter s liberal pacifism, Machiavelli s liberal imperialism encompasses that
the best form of state for imperial expansion are free republics and they are not pacifistic (Doyle,
1986:1154). He goes on to say that Liberty results from the competition and necessity for
compromise required by the division of powers among senate, consuls, and tribunes and also from
a powerful veto (Doyle, 1986:1154). When the citizens know that their lives and properties are
secure from seizure or attacks, liberty tends to encourage an increase population and property, with
strength and imperial expansion being the basis of protection (Doyle, 1986:1151). Machiavelli
says that expansion calls for a free republic rather than an aristocratic one. He used Rome and
Sparta/ Venice as examples respectively. Imperial expansion is important in order to avoid other
states with similar aims becoming a threat and also other citizens can pose to be a threat when they
are not allowed to satisfy their ambition or exercise their political strengths. This is the basis of the
traditional belief liberal imperialism, which Machiavelli tries to explain. The third theoretical
approach is Kant s liberal internationalism. This theory embodies both the liberal pacifism and
liberal imperialism and gives a clear explanation on these two legacies and helps to give an
understanding to international relations.

Leadership Is Good And Bad Leadership
1.As per ref (a) the United States Coast Guard defines leadership as You influencing others to
achieve a goal. Ref (b) defines leadership as the ability to work through others to accomplish a task.
My definition of leadership is Things you do to get people to do things . My definition covers both
good and bad leadership. I feel that I have been influenced equally as much by bad leadership as
good leadership. I have observed as much of what not to do, as what to do. I occasionally find
myself compelled to do something that was in the what not to do column. I feel that if it was not
for the bad experiences I would have had to learn a lot of the what not to do lessons on my own.
For instance, I have worked for a number of Department Heads, but one in particular focused on
making changes immediately, whether needed or not; mostly not. Further, the way he approached
the change was, do this because I said so and I don t know how you all got along without me .
Input was not solicited and unsolicited input was not considered. Conversely, I have worked for
Department Heads that wouldn t make any unnecessary changes, and any changes that were made
were implemented only after discussion with the department or division supervisors. It was no
coincidence that the latter Department was more functional under this style of leadership. It is this
style of leadership that I attempt to emulate.
2.The three behaviors I have chosen to focus on improving are as follows

Student Veterans And Traditional Students
As the number of student veterans continues to increase within the university system, it is
imperative to examine both the similarities and the differences between student veterans and
traditional students (students without military experience), and what effect those differences may
have on student veterans ability to succeed. We surveyed thirty undergraduates at the Universityof
Alaska Anchorage, assessing their gradepoint average, age, hours spent studying, and various other
factors which we deemed our criteria for success . In doing so, we believed that we would find a
radical difference between the grade point average of student veterans compared to their traditional
counterparts. The data collected suggests that our hypothesis was correct: student veterans were a
letter grade behind their peers. This gap in achievement between the two groups suggests that
student veterans ability to adjust to life within the university system requires further examination.
As more veterans continue to seek higher education, it is essential that those within the university
system strive to understand, and alleviate some of the difficulties burdening this emerging
demographic.

Characteristics Of Romanticism
Jonathan and Jessica Wordsworth. New York, NY: Penguin Books, 2005. Print.
Review by Gloria Wan, Oxford College of Emory University
The Penguin Books of Romantic Poetry includes a collections of romantic poetry from later
eighteen centuries to the early nineteenth century. At the peak of Romanticism, there were many
social and political changes occurred including the French Revolution, Napoleon s expansion in
Europe, the Congress of Vienna, the conflict between conservatism and liberalism, Industrial
revolution and so on. Romantic poets used poems to express their emotions of their love for nature,
longing for the ancient legends, and they tried to use their emotions and feelings to understand the
world around them including the French Revolution, slavery, industrial revolution and the
Napoleonic war. However, after the Revolution of 1848, the wave of romanticism died out and
realism emerged.
Many romantic poetries praised the beauty and the power of the nature, and this can be seen as
one of the characteristic of Romanticism. In the poem Ode to the West Wind by Percy Shelley, it
talked about wind has the power to change the season from autumn to spring, and it can also
bring rain and hail in the sky and waves in the ocean. As he wrote in his poem Oh wild west wind,
thou breath of autumn s being, thou, from whose unseen presence the leaves dead are driven, like
ghosts from an enchanter fleeing...the winged seeds, where they lie cold and low, each like a

Malaysia lagged behind Haiti in per capita income but since then it has grown an average of 7
percent annually and would rank third in per capita wealth in the Western Hemisphere. In any

Since, there are also pleas for a shift to social development , which is believed to add more to
happiness than continued economic development does. Social development is a rhetoric notion in

The term suggests something more communitarian than market economy, leaving open what that
precisely is. The concept functions in fact as an umbrella for different alternative views, suggesting
that these go together. The organ donation among Malaysian leads to the Malay Dilemma on social
development because eventhough the Malays in Malaysia is the largest ethnics, but unfortunately
the statistics shows that the Malays are the least to sign up for organ donation. As we know, organ

What Is The Accuracy Of The Movie Gladiator

The Human Side Of Enterprise
Douglas McGregor was an American professor and psychologist who is most famous for his
book, The Human Side of Enterprise, published in 1960. In this work, he conceives and examines
two theories of behaviors in the workplace. They are known as Theory X and Theory Y. These
distinct theories describe how individuals generally behave at work and how different types of
managers might govern their employees. They have been used over the years to help managers to
understand their employees needs, behavior and how to better manage their staff. These theories
can be analyzed and broken down into three of many sub topics: Motivation, LeadershipStyle and
Conflict Resolution. The two basic labels that McGregor created describe the assumptions that
managers might make about their employees views on motivation and behavior. According to
McGregor s (1960) Theory X, the average man is by nature indolent and is typically self centered
and lacks ambition (p. 2). In this situation, managers are forced to act in an authoritarian manner.
They must coerce their employees to do their jobs, because the assumption is that workers take
little to no initiative. Theory X demonstrates that workers view money and job security as their
primary motivator. Conversely, Theory Y states that people actually enjoy working and will
actively seek out greater responsibility. Managers in this scenario would encourage and emphasize
the empowerment of their employees and would provide a surplus of

Centralized Failure Detection In The Monitoring System
The centralized approach is to recognize the most frequently used approach and to diagnose
abnormal data readouts caused by a monitoring process, malfunctions of the components of the
sensor node, or environmental events. In the centralized failure detection, each sensor node
periodically collects its read and sends a packet on the radio to the central base node responsible
for identifying faulty sensor nodes in WSN. In this concern, there are many research activities
were reported. Gupta and Younis tried to provide a tolerant grouping mechanism to fail to provide
the sensor by performing a sensor recovery in the runes in which the bridge has recovered. The

CNBD analyzed the aggregated data to the sink by the transfer time from end to end to obtain a
higher battery power of each node [83]. Guo and et. al. have suggested a Faulty Node Detection
(FIND) to WSN. FIND is a method for nodes with data errors capturing a centralized approach,
without specific recognition model taking into account. It is measured to measure the signal
attenuation distance [84]. Saihi and et al. used to create a centralized error detection method based
on clustering approach, the exchange of messages heartbeat actively scalable and balanced
applications for WSN [85]. In April 2016, Tahir and et al. evaluated a nominal power consumption
in wireless sensor networks through a system through which a small number of high energy nodes
collect both location information and the residual power state of the read nodes, then they are
transmitted to the base station (BS). The authors suggested an algorithm in which a minor
proportion of the high energy nodes are used to transmit each node s information to Base Station
(BS) [86]. 3.5. Distributed approach The decentralized approach is about capturing central resources
for detection and faster localization and healing. It combines the availability of the information

Racial Orthodoxy
In her article Berrey (2011) studied why diversity became the accepted norm. In the study Berrey
examined data from the University of Michigan from 1965 through 2005. The data collected
studied the Opportunity Awards Program that was started by the university. The program was
intended to increase the diversity of the campus because at this time minority students made up less
than .1% of the schools demographic. To measure the success of the program school administrators
used the number of enrolled minority students as the gage of diversity. In the late 1980s the school
changed their approach from emphasizing disadvantage to emphasizing inclusion. Up through the
early 2000s the universitycontinued to make changes to the diversity program. By this point most
of the emphasis was put on the marketable skills that were achieved from being a part of an

This new concept was defined as the, set of ideas, beliefs, narratives, and practices that constitute
official, commonly recognized but not necessarily hegemonic understandings of race (Berrey

discuss this orthodoxy, thus increasing the rate at which it is socially accepted as a new norm. A
main argument that Berrey makes that some programs in certain contexts are concerned with race,
but others seem to not be concerned with race at all, as with what happened at the Michigan
university. The article discussed what Berrey found to be the three major reasons for why diversity
became orthodoxy at Michigan. The first and most dominant was the legal influence and precedent.
The second was for the economic and demographic context of a higher education institution. The
third was of the everyday uses for diversity that play into social

Comparing My Poetry And Alfred Lord Tennyson
What makes a poet great? What is it that makes their poetry weather the ravenous jaws of critics

withstand the harsh beatings many a poet s work has been through. I wonder if I could measure
up to one of the greats, which is why I have chosen to compare and contrast my works and style of
poetrywith that of the famous Alfred Lord Tennyson. I would like to show how our styles, themes,
and poetic influences differ from while showing a few similar traits they have. To start off I will

Analysis Of Eve Kornfeld s Creating An American Culture...
History is the framework of every nation. It describes what life was like in a nation, hundreds
perhaps thousands of years previously. With history, many citizens are able to examine what lead
to a crisis in a nation such as the Stock Market Crash of 1929 or the Civil War in the 1800s in the
United States of America. Likewise, the moments of growth and economic success are looked at.
From these past endeavors, the people can examine what went wrong and what went right and
determine how they can stop themselves from making similar mistakes or act in a way that has
been proven to work. In Eve Kornfeld s Creating an American Culture 1775 1800, many different
areas of national identity are discussed, including the beginnings of documenting the history of
America as an independent nation. This was especially hard for Americans to create a singular
national identity because there was bias in the early works, the different colonies or states were
extremely diverse, and many intellectuals had different perspectives on the American identity. At
the beginning of the historical documentation of America, many individuals were amateurs and/or
biased towards their native state. There were different sides as to what the American Revolutionwas
about so, If they wished to preserve their image unsullied by European incursions, Americans would
have to develop their own narratives of nationhood (Kornfeld, 40). This brought a movement of
amateur writers creating historical

Bastard Out Of Carolina Essay
Bastard Out Of Carolina Pay Attention to Detail ========================= One must
consider a little history on Dorothy Allison in order to see how the directions that she takes the
novel add up. When she was 24, Allison lived in a lesbian feminist collective. The women there
gave her the confidence she needed and the ability to see the value in her own writing

experienced the same incest (Megan 74). This discovery removed some of her separation that she

A major result of the abuse reveals itself through Bone s confusion of the true meaning of love.
Her mother and the rest of the Boatwright s show Bone a much different facet of love compared

however, she can t understand why his love is manifested so strangely. She longs for the love of
this father figure . Although, even his methods of abuse cloud her thinking, leaving her
incapable of deciphering between pleasure and pain, especially shown in her masturbation. Her
mother chooses to ignore the abuse because she knows she will have to decide between her

Bone cannot share her experience because Anney was dealing with enough of her own problems

Blue Ridge Coffee Case Study
Task 2 Memorandum TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: Sales Strategy for the Flavored Coffee
Following the introduction of the new flavored coffee, there is need for coming up with a sales
strategy for increasing the sales of the new product. The strategy gives details on how the product
will reach the customers, and in the end, making them aware of the difference between the new
product line with the other products from the company. These strategies are necessary for
improving the total company sales, consequently increasing the profitability of the company. The
strategy is also necessary for the coming up with sales activities that position the flavored coffee to
a state where it can gain a competitive advantage in the market. The most appropriate sales strategy
of choice for meeting the sales objective of the company is the triple tiered sales strategy (Frain,
2009). Justification of the recommendation The strategy is necessary for the establishment of a
good relationship between the wholesale clientele and the company. The association that the
regional sales teams have with the wholesale customers is vital for giving the company the
necessary information regarding the performance of the product. The triple tiered strategy is
necessary for the identification of the challenges that the competitors are going through, and
building on their weakness to increase the sales volume. An element of a weak competition in
consideration involves brand recognition. Carolina Coffee

Canada is perceived by other nations as a peace loving and good natured nation that values the
rights of the individual above all else. This commonly held belief is a perception that has only come

not the truth. Canadian history is polluted with numerous events upon which the idea that Canada
is a role model for Human Rightsshows to be false. An extreme example of this disregard for
Human Rights takes place at the beginning of the twentieth century, which is the excessive
prejudice and preconceived notions that were held as truths against immigrants attempting to enter

The Canadian government perpetuated the stereotype and racism that all Chinese were used to; by
removing their right to vote, even as full citizens they were unable to elect a political party that
embodied their goals. Also in an attempt to strengthen the racist views the Canadian government
segregated Oriental school children from Canadian school children, by only allowing those born in
Canada to attend public school. This act of segregation draws a parallel to black segregation and
truly shows how significant this hate had become. This hate destroyed many lives and set the
acceptance of the Chinese heritage and culture back by decades; which later became important
when we wished to create an alliance with China. In 1907 these racist views erupted into full scale
destruction as over 7000 Canadians pillaged Chinatown ; breaking all the store windows while mass
looting occurred. Even after this horrendous rampage the government continued its views of the
Chinese and passed into legislation a Chinese Immigration Act in 1923. This act prevented all
Chinese from entering the country, including those with family already within Canada. This act is
shown to be significant to both Canadian and Chinese history as it demonstrates that Canada
wished to thin their population of Chinese citizens. It also shows that many, if not all, of Canada
and its citizens, shared these racist views. Overall these racist views continued on throughout the
first half of the twentieth

Light and Dark Imagery in Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness
Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad is a novel about a man named Marlow and his journey into
the depths of the African Congo. Marlow is in search of a man named Kurtz, an ivory trader.
Though Marlow?s physical journey seems rather simple, it takes him further into his own heart and
soul than into the Congo. The setting, symbols and characters each contain light and dark images,
these images shape the central theme of the novel. Conrad uses light and dark imagery to help
create the setting for the story; light represents civilization while darkness suggests the uncivilized.

The river Thames is the river that brings you into Europe, civilization, while the Congo brings you
into the jungle or darkness. Another important symbol in the story is the ivory. The ivory has a two
fold meaning and is a central theme in the novel. Ivory is taken from the tusks of male elephants;
they live in a pristine area untouched by humans. However, once the white man places a high
price on the ivory, the ivory turns from good to evil. Conrad uses the ivory as a representation of
the greed and corruption that is in the white mans soul. In the case of Kurtz this same greed and
corruption overtook his soul, and caused his death. Each character has a special role in the
novel; Kurtz and Marlow are the most important, through these two characters we are able to see
how good and evil balance each other out. Marlow?s journey into the heart of darkness can also
be seen as a journey into his own soul. He was in search of the darkest of objects, the ivory.
Unlike Kurtz, Marlow was able to withstand the darkness from controlling him. Kurtz soul
became the darkness and caused him to forget everything else there was to life. His last words
were not that of love but rather of hate, ?The horrors the horrors.? Heart of Darkness by Joseph

Dysphagia Essay
Copstead and Banasik (2013) explain the pathophysiologic basis for dysphagia can fall under three
categories:
(1) problems in delivery of the bolus of food or fluid into the esophagus as a result of
neuromuscular incoordination ; (2) problems in transport of the bolus down the body of the
esophagus as a result of altered esophageal peristaltic activity ; (3) problems in bolus entry into the
stomach as a result of lower esophageal sphincter (LES) dysfunction or obstructing lesions (p. 721).
In the first category of dysphagia, individual have a decreased ability to accomplish the initial
steps of swallowing in an orderly sequence (Copstead Banasik, 2013, p. 721). The normal process
of swallowing starts with the contraction of pharynx, which then leads to the closure of the
epiglottis and results in the relaxation of the upper esophageal sphincter (Copstead and Banasik,
2013). After the relaxation of the upper esophageal sphincter, there is an initiation of peristalsis by
contraction of the striated muscle in the upper portion of the esophagus is altered, or the certain
steps in the sequence may be absent (Copstead Banasik, 2013, p. 721). ... Show more content on

esophagus , thus results in peristalsis may be simply weak peristaltic activity, aperistalsis, or

There are murder victims family members who go through this process thinking they ll feel peace
once the revenge of the death penalty is carried out. What I ve learned from meeting with these
people is that you don t feel better in revenge. You feel better in forgiveness (Steinberg, 2015).
Today, there are 31 states that are for the death penalty, leaving 19 that are against it. There are
many reasons to be for and against the death penalty, but in my opinion, I think that there is a better
way to take care of criminals rather than killing them.
One side of this debate is being for the death penalty. According to Van Den Haag (1983), people
fear death more than life in prison. Having the death penalty will be a consequence that people don
t want to face so it will help decrease future murder. Also, Swift (2014) states that they deserve
being put to death. They knew before they did the crime that the consequence for murder is being
put to death. He also argues that having them put to death will help stop further crime and
overcrowding of prisons. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

situation without having to go through all the trials leading up to the execution. Many times it ends

In the Presidential race of 2008, it is estimated that the combined spending of outside groups,
political parties, and candidates totaled to over five billion dollars (Beneson and Tarr 2012).
American politics has created a culture of political elites that requires every candidate to raise
millions of dollars. Although organizations like the FEC tracks these large sums of money, the
amount of money a person must spend publicizing and promoting themselves has become
uncontrollable. Jeb Bush s Super PAC has already raised over 103 million dollars and filmed
countless hours of interviews of the Candidate, skirting regulations within McCain Feingold that
prevent outside sources from directly creating scripts and advertisements with the Bush campaign

raise millions of dollars, and publish deceptive advertisements, their actions still promote a
sentiment of power that should not be allotted to one person. Regardless of the strides that have

Different Versions Of Sleeping Beauty Stretch From The...
Various versions of Sleeping Beauty stretch from the middle of the Renaissance period to
contemporary settings. The Ninth Captain s Tale by Arabian Nights is the earliest, recorded even
before its 1550 publishing (cite). In Italy, Giambattista Basile writes Sun, Moon and Talia, which is
the first record of the Sleeping Beautytale in Europe. Charles Perraults Sleeping Beauty in the Wood
revises the tale, making it more children friendly and most similar to the Brother s Grimm version
familiar with many children. Common throughout these stories, the princess character s helpless
nature is romanticized, not to mention the popular story of a prince finding a sleeping princess and
the two living happily ever. Despite this fairy tales popularity, the several versions of Sleeping
Beauty endorse a submissive and powerless female by establishing a surreal, magical setting
around the sleeping princess character, dampening the alarming actions of the prince and systemic
lack of female agency. Magical elements present themselves throughout each of these fairy tales.
The princess character in each version is magically put to sleep or death. Perrault s version has a
fairy with a chariot of fire, pull by dragons. However, when the prince character is introduced, the
description of the surreal setting around the princess is emphasized, primarily the princess character
s place of rest. In The Ninth Captain s Tale, the mausoleum for Sittukhan is described as spectacular

The Strategy Of Environmental Treaty Making
Professor of natural resource economics at Columbia University, Scott Barrett, is responsible for
producing Environment statecraft: The strategy of environmental treaty making , a book that in his
words, develops a theory of how states can cooperate in protecting their shared environmental
resources and should utilised to analyse the successfulness of agreements and treaties. What sets
this text apart is not his presentation of newly founded information, but rather the craftful piecing
together of what Barret labels disparate ideas of economic/game theoretic approaches to
international cooperation and to combine and package them in a coherent fashion (p.358). This is
not to suggest that Barrett did not include his unique findings however. Barrett persistently brought
to light seemingly original examinations into specific factors influencing poor successful examples
of cooperation. This approach results in an extensively scoping survey that highlights the dominant
themes in a fashion that allows the information to be accessible and feasibly consumable to any
audience willing to follow the core models and is also analytically robust. Notably Barrett put an
intensive focus, not only on theory but on how the theory was could be applied in practice. Barrett
does this as international cooperation in theory should provide an approach for the conduct of
policy , and practitioners need to think deeply about these problems (p 358). The combination of

The Miles Between Cultural Differences
Everyone has a different way of life, whether it be by the way you talk, dress, or eat. Or maybe
how you dance, sing, and perform. These aspects of everyday life is called culture. Everybody in
the world has a culture, but not all cultures are the same from person to person. In the book, The
Miles Between, a group of teens, who attend a boarding school, have a different way of life than I
do. Even though there is many differences between our cultures, there are still some similarities
peeping through all the differences. One of the most important parts of culture, I believe, is who
influenced you to grow your culture, and who influenced you to act the way you act. Therefore,
family is a big part in controlling your culture. If you are Destiny Faraday, the main character of
The Miles Between, you do not have a family, or anybody to rely on. No mother, father, sister,
nor brother, nobody to raise her into the way she is, and to help her create her culture. Destiny
witnessed her parents and her brother Gavin die in a plane crash at the age of seven. That was a
very traumatic incident she had to witness at such a young age, my parents and Gavin are dead
(Pearson, 230). The quote was her telling her friends that her parents are no longer alive. This is a
large differencebecause I still have my parents, and they have raised me my whole life, which has

The Effects Of Caffeine On Oxidative Stress
In the present study, the MDA level was measured as an index of lipid peroxidation in order to
observe the effect of caffeine on the oxidative stress induced by AlCl3 in cortex, hippocampus and
striatum brain areas. Brain tissues are more vulnerable to oxidative stress other than tissues for
many reasons such as high oxygen consumption (more than 20% of the total inspired oxygen), the
presence of abundant amount of polyunsaturated fatty acids which are susceptible to free radicals
attack, low antioxidant levels, high iron content in addition to the non regenerative nature of
neurons (Nehru and Anand, 2005; Kim et al., 2015). All these reasons may explain why brain is

The present results showed that daily protection with caffeine attenuated the increase in MDA
levels in AlCl3 intoxicated rats. Supporting the present finding, previous studies have revealed the
antioxidant potential of caffeine against lipid peroxidation in various animal models of neurologic
diseases, including Alzheimer s disease (Prasanthi et al., 2010), epilepsy (Souza et al., 2013) and
Parkinson s disease (Khadrawy et al., 2017). It has been demonstrated that caffeine has the ability
to scavenge reactive oxygen species (Devasagayam et al., 1996) and modulated the brain
antioxidant system through increasing the content of GSH and activities of antioxidant enzymes
like glutathione reductase and superoxide dismutase (Abreu et al., 2011). Generally, the antioxidant
capacity of caffeine was similar to that of the established biological antioxidant GSH and
significantly higher than ascorbic acid (Devasagayam et al., 1996). Accordingly, this may explain
the ability of caffeine to attenuate lipid peroxidation induced by AlCl3 in the current study via
direct scavenging of reactive oxygen species or by increasing GSH content and antioxidant
enzymes activities.
The present data revealed that daily oral administration of AlCl3 resulted in a significant increase in
NO levels in the cortex, hippocampus and striatum. NO is the smallest signalling molecule within

Tattooing In Samoa

Tattooing in Samoa
Introduction: why does this matter? Origin story and meaning The Samoans are an ethnic group
that reside in Oceania, on the islands of Samoa, in an area of Polynesia. Samoa has been
occupied by these indigenous people for about 3000 years, when they came from the west,
occupying the islands of Fiji and Tonga around the same time (Barnes and Hunt 2005, 243). They
carry many traditions with their culture, however, I will be discussing their tradition of tattooing.
Tattooing is the process of inserting ink pigment into someone s skin to create a permanent design
on them. For Samoans, tattoos are much more significant than just a pretty piece of artwork, they
are, according to Ryman (2004), a right of passage. I will be reviewing the importance of cultural
tattoos, the process of being tattooed, and the varying origin stories of how tattooing first came to
Samoa. Samoan tattooing matters because it is a cultural tradition that has been practiced in Samoa
for over 3000 years (Ellis 2006, 698).
Demographics:
Samoa is divided into two, separate nations, The Independent State of Samoa (referred to as

Persuasive Essay On Heart Transplant
My grandpa died of heart complications. He had gone through many stages in the process leading
to a heart transplant, and had been put on the list for a heart. At the time that he passed I knew he
needed a heart transplant, but I was unsure of what it actually was. A heart transplant is an
operation to remove a diseased heartand to replace it with an appropriate donor heart. There is a
rigorous process to determine a heart transplant is going to be performed on a proper candidate.
There is always a need for donors with healthy hearts. As written by the History.com staff, in 1958,
Norman Shumway performed the first successful heart transplant on a dog at Stanford University.
It wasn t until December 3, 1967, that the first human heart transplant was completed in Cape
Town, South Africa. Lewis Washkansky was dying from chronic heart disease and received a
donor heart from Denise Darvall, a twenty five year old woman who died in a car accident.
Christiaan Barnard, a reputable surgeon, performed this cutting edge procedure. Eighteen days after,
Washkansky died of pneumonia due to the susceptibility to illness that the anti rejection medication
opened him up to. Regardless of this, his heart functioned properly until his death. In the 1970 s
better anti rejection medication had developed and many of Barnard s patients were living up to
five years with their new hearts (History.com staff).
Heart transplants are known as a last resort. When other treatments, such as

of people in Scotland during the murder of their king King Duncan. One of King Duncan s Thanes,
Macbeth, becomes aware of his future prophecy after the witches predicted it. Lady Macbeth
eventually persuades Macbethto become eager and greedy which ultimately leads to him committing

Macbeth felt guilty and culpable the prophecies that he believed in so much led him to ultimately
killothers. Macbeth can be described as brave and ambitious at the beginning of the play, but his
downfall, towards the end of the play, is caused by his guilty conscious and feelings of regret.
After Macbeth and Banquo return from defending the land, King Duncan expresses how
impressed he is with their bravery and loyalty. King. No more that Thane of Cawdor shall deceive
our bosom interest: go pronounce his present death, and with his former title greet Macbeth. (326)
Before Macbeth killed Duncan, he was portrayed as a very confident and poise character. He was
willing to defend the land he called home, and did so with pride. When the witches predicted that
Macbeth would become King himself, it presented an external conflict within the play. First Witch

Determination In The Bravest Girl In The World
Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough Og Mandino. Og
Mandino is saying that if someone has a strong determination to succeed they will never fail.
Determination means a firm or fixed intention to achieve a desired end. The word determination is
from the Middle English, the Anglo French determiner, and from the Latin determinare. Synonyms
are used to help people better understand a word. The synonyms for determination include
resolution, decisiveness, and persistency. Hesitation, indecision, and irresoluteness are antonyms to
the word determination. People say in life if a person has determination they can accomplish
anything. Malala Yousafzai and Melba Beals showed the world that if they use determination...

determination can make a difference. I have seen heads smashed. I have seen people beaten
until their sockets swallow their eyes. I have survived being buried alive... To the whole world,
this is my cry: There is no future without healthy children who grow up in a peaceful
environment. Do not turn your hatred on the children. Throughout Grace s whole life she has
seen and been through so much pain and suffering. She escaped captivity though, and is now
determined to help other kids like her. One reason she wrote this book was to help raise
awareness and get others to have the same determination as her to help these poor children.
These children are being forced to kill and others are forced to be a man s wife. Other children

The local workforce was then supplemented with foreign labour import cheap foreign labour to

From the global electronics crash in 2001 to the 2013 SARS outbreak until the 2007 Global
Financial Crisis, Singapore s export driven, trade dependent economy began to suffer from its
own success. In a state of desperation due to labour constraints, Singapore relied even more on
foreign workers to seize any growth opportunities. While this enabled the nation to recover from
the recession, a new problem of an overpopulated foreign workforce raised many concerns in
both the public and social sphere. risk of higher crime rates and lower property values. While
labour force injections as a means to drive economic growth has been around for many years, it
was only after the 2009 recession when the over dependence on foreign labour for growth was

lagged behind the most in terms of productivity. Thus, while labour related policy decisions for
economic development were successful in the past, the volatile markets today in addition to the

Dinner Research Paper
I always think dinner is good, however having dinner with three people who I would like to talk
to, that dinner would be the greatest. Three people I would invite to dinner are Fred Weasley,
Hermoine Granger, and Johnny Depp. These people are some of my greatest idols. This dinner
would be a dream come true, even though I would loveto invite so many more people. Furthermore,
there are so many reasons I would invite these three people.
First of all, Fred Weasley is the 4th youngest child in the Weasley familyin the book/movie series
Harry Potter. He has a twin brother George, (SPOILER ALERT) and he does not survive the
Battle of Hogwarts. I would invite Fred because he is my favorite Weasley, and he is a jokester,
which would make my dinner fun. He is an idol to me because he died laughing and he always
saw the bright side of things. Also, Fred Weasley is not a bad looking man, we would talk about
his life and pranks to pull, plus so many other things. I would love to meet Fred Weasley because
he is a great (fictional) character.

Diabetic Travel Tips
When packing for a trip, most people only have to worry about making sure they have the right
clothes to wear, makeup and such. When traveling with a diabetic, there are more important
things to worry about. As a mother of two type 1 Diabetics and a wife of a type 2 diabetic, I have
learned many tricks. Here are 5 tips that might help others while packing. 1). Make sure that you
have plenty of insulin, test strips and needles. Also, be sure to pack a container in which to throw
away used needles. Try to pack double what you need, such as two bottles of Novolog, two
bottles of Lantus, etc. in case one of the bottles get broken. Or, you might want to ask your
physician to write out a spare prescription just in case a bottle breaks. The reason... Show more

I am sorry to say that there is much hard work for little benefit. Don t get me wrong, in my 20+
year career I have had the opportunity to travel to incredible destinations and I wouldn t trade my
career as a travel agent or working in the travel industry for anything. The biggest reward for me is
making someone s dream trip come to fruition. In an industry that is challenged by the Internet, it
is imperative for anyone who wants to be a travel agent to be well versed in geography, up to date
on current events and sensitive to the diverse cultures of the countries that your clients are
interested in traveling to. A travel agent on top of their game possess the ability to address the
distinct needs of each customer and delivers high quality responsive service. Without this ability,
the travel agent loses to the internet every time. The Internet is a powerful tool and can make
researching a destination quick and easy. Can a client go to the Internet and access the same
information that you can? Most definitely. So you ask, how can a travel agent be competitive? The
key to this is service. Most travelers are not interested in booking their dream vacation through an
entity that is intangible. Basically, they want someone who they can rely on and hold their hand
through the entire process. The following information can help you understand what it takes to be a
great travel agent. A good travel agent learns the ins and outs of the industry. This means
understanding every component that goes into a travel package such as air, hotel, car, transfers,
tours, etc. Learn the industry lingo. Understand the difference between an FIT and an escorted tour.
Knowing what resources to use and getting the information quickly to your client will give them the
confidence that they have made the right choice in coming to you to

  • 3. Demographic Transition Of Pre Industrial demographic transition theory is a widespread explanation of the changing mold of humanity, fertility and increase rates as civilizations move from one demographic system to another. The term was first coined by the American demographer Frank W. Notestein in the mid twentieth century, but it has since been elaborated and expanded upon by many others (The Demographic Transition, 2012). There are four stages of demographic transition. The first stage of the demographic transition is called pre industrial. In this stage, the population is stable. The birth and death rates are both high. The death rates are at a high due to the increase of disease, poor medical and personal hygiene care along with the limited supplies of food. With the death rates being high, people are having more babies to help with mortality rates being so high. With the birth and death rates being equal, the population growth stays at a zero. The second stage of the demographic transition theory is called the transitional stage. In this state the population starts to increase. This happens because the birth rates are high and the death rates are starting to decline. The second stage is when the development of modern medicine and food distribution is started to take hold and the death rate starts to diminish. (Saucedo, 2011) The reason the death rates are starting to decline is due to the reason that the country is transitioning into an industrial county. This means that there are improvements in the ... That one cell can cause the depletion and breakdown of your entire immune system and that one cell could be cancerous and lead ultimately to your death. That one cell that turned into many, then turned from ovarian cancer into lastly, Stage 4 breast cancer. That one cell took the life of my late grandmother. • 5. Is Diversity an Issue Within Law Enforcement From the Past... The term diversity refers to the condition of being diverse; thus, composed of distinct forms or qualities (The Merriam Webster Dictionary, 2004). Looking back at the history of the U.S., there has always been a diverse population in many jurisdictions. But did policy agency workforces mirror this diversity of the communities they served? When in the past the issue of diversity within law enforcement was at stake, where the same measures used today the same as the in the past? The U.S s law enforcement mores originate from the English Law Enforcement. When the U.S. came into being with the endorsement of the Constitution, the twofold sovereignty of state and democracy required the designation of distinct officers to represent the... This division in society even went further to discriminate depending on an individual s social status, duration in the U.S., sexual orientation, and racial backgrounds. Women who were hired as police officers were appointed duties that did not require them to work street patrol. New York City employed its first police matron in 1845 and in 1888 together with Massachusetts voted for a statute that required communities with a population of over 20,000 to hire police matrons to care for female prisoners (Shusta, Levine, Wong, Olson, and Harris, 2010, p. 51; Felperin, 2004). This created a path for more women officers to be hired. In 1905, the Portland, Oregon Police Department appointed its first woman [Lola Baldwin] sworn as a police officer but not allowed to patrol. The International Association of Chiefs of Police passed a resolution in 1922 supporting the use of police women [but did not work as patrol or detectives]. The Indianapolis Police Department assigned the first two female officers on patrol in 1968 and in 1985, Portland, Oregon appointed the first woman [Penny Harrington] Chief of Police. Laws such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act contributed to the hiring of women in the law enforcement field (Shusta et al., 2010, p. 51; Felperin, 2004). • 7. Podcasts And Content Marketing Essay Content marketing began as a simple concept; one simply wrote blogs and articles related to specific products and/or services and promoted them; however, content creation in 2018 has come full circle. Businesses today have tried to keep up with content trends and have used different tools to promote content in 2018. Podcasts and Content Marketing One of these content trends is the use of podcasts. Keep in mind that podcasting has been used by many professions for quite some time now but its use in content marketing is relatively new. Podcasting is fast catching. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Format: Set up your basic show format. There is no right or wrong way to set up a podcast. The important thing is that you feel comfortable with the entire idea, flow, and format. Some podcasters ask questions from the listeners, others only provide a running commentary, and yet others wait until the end to answer questions. However, for effective content creation in 2018, it might be a good idea to interview an expert who answers relevant questions. This way you can provide your audience with a more credible source and you also don t have to answer every question that your audience may ask. Length: Remember, a podcast should not go on forever. Most people keep it for 45 60 minutes. This seems like an appropriate length because anything longer than this could bore your listeners and force them to sign off. Engaging the listeners: One of the most critical elements of a podcast is that it should have content that is both engaging and interesting for the audience. An effective way to do so is by picking up trending topics, invite guests and experts and keep the flow of information smooth and relevant. Your audience wants to learn something and they want to derive information from your podcast. You need to make sure you are able to provide the information. Sun Tzu produced this text in an attempt to provide future militaryadvantages for the Chinese, but The Art of War s ideas eventually spread to neighboring civilizations and empires. The last topic that Sun Tzu took great pride in was military leadership. Since Sun Tzu was a general, he knew how to run an army to its best conditions with a minimal amount of casualties. During the text, Sun Tzu states, Now the general is the pillar of the state; if the pillar has mastered all points of war, the state will be strong; if the pillar is defective, the state will be week. (p. #1) Tzu is using the general s leadership as a supporting structure to the whole empire or civilization. If the military leader is dysfunctional, then the whole state or empire will be dysfunctional as well. The Art of War also states, The masterful leader cultivates the moral law, and strictly adheres to proper methods and discipline; thus it is his power to control success. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast to Schumpeter s liberal pacifism, Machiavelli s liberal imperialism encompasses that the best form of state for imperial expansion are free republics and they are not pacifistic (Doyle, 1986:1154). He goes on to say that Liberty results from the competition and necessity for compromise required by the division of powers among senate, consuls, and tribunes and also from a powerful veto (Doyle, 1986:1154). When the citizens know that their lives and properties are secure from seizure or attacks, liberty tends to encourage an increase population and property, with strength and imperial expansion being the basis of protection (Doyle, 1986:1151). Machiavelli says that expansion calls for a free republic rather than an aristocratic one. He used Rome and Sparta/ Venice as examples respectively. Imperial expansion is important in order to avoid other states with similar aims becoming a threat and also other citizens can pose to be a threat when they are not allowed to satisfy their ambition or exercise their political strengths. This is the basis of the traditional belief liberal imperialism, which Machiavelli tries to explain. The third theoretical approach is Kant s liberal internationalism. This theory embodies both the liberal pacifism and liberal imperialism and gives a clear explanation on these two legacies and helps to give an understanding to international relations. ... • 10. Leadership Is Good And Bad Leadership 1.As per ref (a) the United States Coast Guard defines leadership as You influencing others to achieve a goal. Ref (b) defines leadership as the ability to work through others to accomplish a task. My definition of leadership is Things you do to get people to do things . My definition covers both good and bad leadership. I feel that I have been influenced equally as much by bad leadership as good leadership. I have observed as much of what not to do, as what to do. I occasionally find myself compelled to do something that was in the what not to do column. I feel that if it was not for the bad experiences I would have had to learn a lot of the what not to do lessons on my own. For instance, I have worked for a number of Department Heads, but one in particular focused on making changes immediately, whether needed or not; mostly not. Further, the way he approached the change was, do this because I said so and I don t know how you all got along without me . Input was not solicited and unsolicited input was not considered. Conversely, I have worked for Department Heads that wouldn t make any unnecessary changes, and any changes that were made were implemented only after discussion with the department or division supervisors. It was no coincidence that the latter Department was more functional under this style of leadership. It is this style of leadership that I attempt to emulate. 2.The three behaviors I have chosen to focus on improving are as follows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Student Veterans And Traditional Students As the number of student veterans continues to increase within the university system, it is imperative to examine both the similarities and the differences between student veterans and traditional students (students without military experience), and what effect those differences may have on student veterans ability to succeed. We surveyed thirty undergraduates at the Universityof Alaska Anchorage, assessing their gradepoint average, age, hours spent studying, and various other factors which we deemed our criteria for success . In doing so, we believed that we would find a radical difference between the grade point average of student veterans compared to their traditional counterparts. The data collected suggests that our hypothesis was correct: student veterans were a letter grade behind their peers. This gap in achievement between the two groups suggests that student veterans ability to adjust to life within the university system requires further examination. As more veterans continue to seek higher education, it is essential that those within the university system strive to understand, and alleviate some of the difficulties burdening this emerging demographic. • 12. Characteristics Of Romanticism Jonathan and Jessica Wordsworth. New York, NY: Penguin Books, 2005. Print. Review by Gloria Wan, Oxford College of Emory University The Penguin Books of Romantic Poetry includes a collections of romantic poetry from later eighteen centuries to the early nineteenth century. At the peak of Romanticism, there were many social and political changes occurred including the French Revolution, Napoleon s expansion in Europe, the Congress of Vienna, the conflict between conservatism and liberalism, Industrial revolution and so on. Romantic poets used poems to express their emotions of their love for nature, longing for the ancient legends, and they tried to use their emotions and feelings to understand the world around them including the French Revolution, slavery, industrial revolution and the Napoleonic war. However, after the Revolution of 1848, the wave of romanticism died out and realism emerged. Many romantic poetries praised the beauty and the power of the nature, and this can be seen as one of the characteristic of Romanticism. In the poem Ode to the West Wind by Percy Shelley, it talked about wind has the power to change the season from autumn to spring, and it can also bring rain and hail in the sky and waves in the ocean. As he wrote in his poem Oh wild west wind, thou breath of autumn s being, thou, from whose unseen presence the leaves dead are driven, like ghosts from an enchanter fleeing...the winged seeds, where they lie cold and low, each like a corpse within its ... • 15. The Human Side Of Enterprise Douglas McGregor was an American professor and psychologist who is most famous for his book, The Human Side of Enterprise, published in 1960. In this work, he conceives and examines two theories of behaviors in the workplace. They are known as Theory X and Theory Y. These distinct theories describe how individuals generally behave at work and how different types of managers might govern their employees. They have been used over the years to help managers to understand their employees needs, behavior and how to better manage their staff. These theories can be analyzed and broken down into three of many sub topics: Motivation, LeadershipStyle and Conflict Resolution. The two basic labels that McGregor created describe the assumptions that managers might make about their employees views on motivation and behavior. According to McGregor s (1960) Theory X, the average man is by nature indolent and is typically self centered and lacks ambition (p. 2). In this situation, managers are forced to act in an authoritarian manner. They must coerce their employees to do their jobs, because the assumption is that workers take little to no initiative. Theory X demonstrates that workers view money and job security as their primary motivator. Conversely, Theory Y states that people actually enjoy working and will actively seek out greater responsibility. You may want to add a good morning, good afternoon, or good evening. But, the most important part is the smile. If you ever find yourself in Belize, try it. Centralized Failure Detection In The Monitoring System The centralized approach is to recognize the most frequently used approach and to diagnose abnormal data readouts caused by a monitoring process, malfunctions of the components of the sensor node, or environmental events. In the centralized failure detection, each sensor node periodically collects its read and sends a packet on the radio to the central base node responsible for identifying faulty sensor nodes in WSN. In this concern, there are many research activities were reported. • 19. Racial Orthodoxy In her article Berrey (2011) studied why diversity became the accepted norm. In the study Berrey examined data from the University of Michigan from 1965 through 2005. The data collected studied the Opportunity Awards Program that was started by the university. The program was intended to increase the diversity of the campus because at this time minority students made up less than .1% of the schools demographic. To measure the success of the program school administrators used the number of enrolled minority students as the gage of diversity. In the late 1980s the school changed their approach from emphasizing disadvantage to emphasizing inclusion. Up through the early 2000s the universitycontinued to make changes to the diversity program. A main argument that Berrey makes that some programs in certain contexts are concerned with race, but others seem to not be concerned with race at all, as with what happened at the Michigan university. I ask myself this as I look at my own poetry, wondering if it too could withstand the harsh beatings many a poet s work has been through. I wonder if I could measure up to one of the greats, which is why I have chosen to compare and contrast my works and style of poetrywith that of the famous Alfred Lord Tennyson. I would like to show how our styles, themes, and poetic influences differ from while showing a few similar traits they have. To start off I will compare Tennyson s poem Tears, Idle Tears to my poem Monday Morning, Sunday Mourning. The main themes of both poems are about reminiscing about events that... • 21. Analysis Of Eve Kornfeld s Creating An American Culture... History is the framework of every nation. It describes what life was like in a nation, hundreds perhaps thousands of years previously. With history, many citizens are able to examine what lead to a crisis in a nation such as the Stock Market Crash of 1929 or the Civil War in the 1800s in the United States of America. Likewise, the moments of growth and economic success are looked at. From these past endeavors, the people can examine what went wrong and what went right and determine how they can stop themselves from making similar mistakes or act in a way that has been proven to work. In Eve Kornfeld s Creating an American Culture 1775 1800, many different areas of national identity are discussed, including the beginnings of documenting the history of America as an independent nation. This was especially hard for Americans to create a singular national identity because there was bias in the early works, the different colonies or states were extremely diverse, and many intellectuals had different perspectives on the American identity. At the beginning of the historical documentation of America, many individuals were amateurs and/or biased towards their native state. There were different sides as to what the American Revolutionwas about so, If they wished to preserve their image unsullied by European incursions, Americans would have to develop their own narratives of nationhood (Kornfeld, 40). This act of segregation draws a parallel to black segregation and truly shows how significant this hate had become. This hate destroyed many lives and set the acceptance of the Chinese heritage and culture back by decades; which later became important when we wished to create an alliance with China. In 1907 these racist views erupted into full scale destruction as over 7000 Canadians pillaged Chinatown ; breaking all the store windows while mass looting occurred. Even after this horrendous rampage the government continued its views of the Chinese and passed into legislation a Chinese Immigration Act in 1923. Dysphagia Essay Copstead and Banasik (2013) explain the pathophysiologic basis for dysphagia can fall under three categories: (1) problems in delivery of the bolus of food or fluid into the esophagus as a result of neuromuscular incoordination ; (2) problems in transport of the bolus down the body of the esophagus as a result of altered esophageal peristaltic activity ; (3) problems in bolus entry into the stomach as a result of lower esophageal sphincter (LES) dysfunction or obstructing lesions (p. 721). The Ninth Captain s Tale by Arabian Nights is the earliest, recorded even before its 1550 publishing (cite). In Italy, Giambattista Basile writes Sun, Moon and Talia, which is the first record of the Sleeping Beautytale in Europe. Charles Perraults Sleeping Beauty in the Wood revises the tale, making it more children friendly and most similar to the Brother s Grimm version familiar with many children. Despite this fairy tales popularity, the several versions of Sleeping Beauty endorse a submissive and powerless female by establishing a surreal, magical setting around the sleeping princess character, dampening the alarming actions of the prince and systemic lack of female agency. Magical elements present themselves throughout each of these fairy tales. The princess character in each version is magically put to sleep or death. Perrault s version has a fairy with a chariot of fire, pull by dragons. • 37. The Strategy Of Environmental Treaty Making Professor of natural resource economics at Columbia University, Scott Barrett, is responsible for producing Environment statecraft: The strategy of environmental treaty making , a book that in his words, develops a theory of how states can cooperate in protecting their shared environmental resources and should utilised to analyse the successfulness of agreements and treaties. What sets this text apart is not his presentation of newly founded information, but rather the craftful piecing together of what Barret labels disparate ideas of economic/game theoretic approaches to international cooperation and to combine and package them in a coherent fashion (p.358). This is not to suggest that Barrett did not include his unique findings however. Barrett persistently brought to light seemingly original examinations into specific factors influencing poor successful examples of cooperation. This approach results in an extensively scoping survey that highlights the dominant themes in a fashion that allows the information to be accessible and feasibly consumable to any audience willing to follow the core models and is also analytically robust. Notably Barrett put an intensive focus, not only on theory but on how the theory was could be applied in practice. Barrett does this as international cooperation in theory should provide an approach for the conduct of policy , and practitioners need to think deeply about these problems (p 358). The combination of the ideas and themes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Miles Between Cultural Differences Everyone has a different way of life, whether it be by the way you talk, dress, or eat. Or maybe how you dance, sing, and perform. These aspects of everyday life is called culture. Everybody in the world has a culture, but not all cultures are the same from person to person. In the book, The Miles Between, a group of teens, who attend a boarding school, have a different way of life than I do. Even though there is many differences between our cultures, there are still some similarities peeping through all the differences. One of the most important parts of culture, I believe, is who influenced you to grow your culture, and who influenced you to act the way you act. Therefore, family is a big part in controlling your culture. If you are Destiny Faraday, the main character of The Miles Between, you do not have a family, or anybody to rely on. No mother, father, sister, nor brother, nobody to raise her into the way she is, and to help her create her culture. Destiny witnessed her parents and her brother Gavin die in a plane crash at the age of seven. That was a very traumatic incident she had to witness at such a young age, my parents and Gavin are dead (Pearson, 230). The quote was her telling her friends that her parents are no longer alive. This is a large differencebecause I still have my parents, and they have raised me my whole life, which has a big affect on how my culture is developed and experienced. What my parents eat, has influenced what I eat. What music my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Effects Of Caffeine On Oxidative Stress In the present study, the MDA level was measured as an index of lipid peroxidation in order to observe the effect of caffeine on the oxidative stress induced by AlCl3 in cortex, hippocampus and striatum brain areas. Brain tissues are more vulnerable to oxidative stress other than tissues for many reasons such as high oxygen consumption (more than 20% of the total inspired oxygen), the presence of abundant amount of polyunsaturated fatty acids which are susceptible to free radicals attack, low antioxidant levels, high iron content in addition to the non regenerative nature of neurons (Nehru and Anand, 2005; Kim et al., 2015). All these reasons may explain why brain is more susceptible to aluminum toxicity than other organs. In the present... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The present results showed that daily protection with caffeine attenuated the increase in MDA levels in AlCl3 intoxicated rats. Supporting the present finding, previous studies have revealed the antioxidant potential of caffeine against lipid peroxidation in various animal models of neurologic diseases, including Alzheimer s disease (Prasanthi et al., 2010), epilepsy (Souza et al., 2013) and Parkinson s disease (Khadrawy et al., 2017). It has been demonstrated that caffeine has the ability to scavenge reactive oxygen species (Devasagayam et al., 1996) and modulated the brain antioxidant system through increasing the content of GSH and activities of antioxidant enzymes like glutathione reductase and superoxide dismutase (Abreu et al., 2011). Generally, the antioxidant capacity of caffeine was similar to that of the established biological antioxidant GSH and significantly higher than ascorbic acid (Devasagayam et al., 1996). Accordingly, this may explain the ability of caffeine to attenuate lipid peroxidation induced by AlCl3 in the current study via direct scavenging of reactive oxygen species or by increasing GSH content and antioxidant enzymes activities. The present data revealed that daily oral administration of AlCl3 resulted in a significant increase in NO levels in the cortex, hippocampus and striatum. • 40. Tattooing In Samoa Summer Wise Anthropology 314 J. Howell December 7, 2017 Tattooing in Samoa Introduction: why does this matter? Origin story and meaning The Samoans are an ethnic group that reside in Oceania, on the islands of Samoa, in an area of Polynesia. Samoa has been occupied by these indigenous people for about 3000 years, when they came from the west, occupying the islands of Fiji and Tonga around the same time (Barnes and Hunt 2005, 243). They carry many traditions with their culture, however, I will be discussing their tradition of tattooing. Tattooing is the process of inserting ink pigment into someone s skin to create a permanent design on them. For Samoans, tattoos are much more significant than just a pretty piece of artwork, they are, according to Ryman (2004), a right of passage. I will be reviewing the importance of cultural tattoos, the process of being tattooed, and the varying origin stories of how tattooing first came to Samoa. Samoan tattooing matters because it is a cultural tradition that has been practiced in Samoa for over 3000 years (Ellis 2006, 698). Demographics: Samoa is divided into two, separate nations, The Independent State of Samoa (referred to as Samoa) and Territory of American Samoa(referred to as American Samoa). Samoa, formerly known as Western Samoa, is an independent nation based on a unitary parliamentary democracy, which consists of a legislative, executive, and judiciary branch (Government of Samoa). He had gone through many stages in the process leading to a heart transplant, and had been put on the list for a heart. At the time that he passed I knew he needed a heart transplant, but I was unsure of what it actually was. A heart transplant is an operation to remove a diseased heartand to replace it with an appropriate donor heart. There is a rigorous process to determine a heart transplant is going to be performed on a proper candidate. There is always a need for donors with healthy hearts. As written by the History.com staff, in 1958, Norman Shumway performed the first successful heart transplant on a dog at Stanford University. It wasn t until December 3, 1967, that the first human heart transplant was completed in Cape Town, South Africa. Lewis Washkansky was dying from chronic heart disease and received a donor heart from Denise Darvall, a twenty five year old woman who died in a car accident. Christiaan Barnard, a reputable surgeon, performed this cutting edge procedure. Eighteen days after, Washkansky died of pneumonia due to the susceptibility to illness that the anti rejection medication opened him up to. Regardless of this, his heart functioned properly until his death. In the 1970 s better anti rejection medication had developed and many of Barnard s patients were living up to five years with their new hearts (History.com staff).
