The long run impact of MOOCs will be significant according to the presenter. In the long run, MOOCs will lead to (1) courses being bundled into credit-bearing programs and microcredentials, (2) education becoming more global in reach from national to worldwide, and (3) a shift from initial education to continuous lifelong learning. Classrooms will also evolve from traditional lectures to blended learning combining online and in-person. Overall education will move towards being more open through open educational resources and MOOCs.

- The purpose of the TU Delft Research-based Initiatives (DRI’s), established in 2009, is to contribute to solving societal challenges within four themes: Health, Energy, Global Development, and Deltas, Infrastructures & Mobility. The Initiatives engage with societal and industrial partners, and highlight innovative science, engineering and design. In addition to stimulating multidisciplinary research that is in line with (inter)national agendas, the initiatives also have a strong inspirational effect on students and education.
- A couple of courses are the blockbusters, but there is a long tail with courses that still attract at least a 1000 learners The average is around 5k enrolments. The biggest run is of Solar Energy with more than 70k

- Hosting universities select MOOCs (TUD appr. 10), in total appr. 40 MOOCs in the ‘virtual exchange’ portfolio are offered to the university’s own students for credits as well TU Delft students can use MOOCs as electives, in free minor or in honour’s programme Additional assessment may be necessary to grant credits for the MOOC. Assessment is under academic conditions Student doesn’t travel, but exam does Each MOOC will have a max. number of students 3-year pilot: First MOOCs are offered from February 2017
