Homelessness in Cincinnati Essay
In Ohio (The Tri state), and over the last 17 years, there has been a 160% population increase.
Homelessness has become a problem in the city of Cincinnati. Many families are homeless
because of job layoffs and exhausted unemployment benefits. Some families are employed but do
not earn enough wages to support a family and pay for adequate housing. Young single mothers
can receive welfare benefits (Aid for Dependent Children) for 36 months. During that time they
are supposed to be furthering their education or preparing to go to work. If neither is
accomplished, the mother will receive medical for the children and food stamps only. If the family
is not residing in subsidized housing they may have to stay with family members or seek... Show

People are forced to move and find other dwellings. For example, an apartment building called the
metro pole was recently sold for renovation. The people who reside in the building are the
disabled, mentally ill or people difficult to place in other housing, for some reason or another. The
building was built more than 30 years ago and has 230 two room affordable apartments; in a very
convenient location near downtown Cincinnati, close to bus stops, and shopping. The building will
be renovated to a 160 room lustrous hotel, so that upscale workers can be near their jobs. In
2008, city council had limited jobs for human service workers for the people in over the Rhine.
Over the Rhine is a small community in the heart and back end of downtown Cincinnati, known as
the ghetto. It consists of poor people of all nationalities and in which most of the homeless live.
Although organizations are working with the Cincinnati Interfaith Worker Center in helping day
labor workers organize to improve job stipulations; wages, and working conditions(Greater
Cincinnati Coalition for the Homeless, 2010), jobs are still not an option in Cincinnati for the
homeless, or those with criminal records. When the only viable jobs are offered by labor pools,
the people are often exploited and treated with less dignity and have the lowest most devastating
working conditions.
Those who can only work part time, or have no transportation must car pool with someone or pay

Racial Bias And Momendations In The Criminal Justice System
This overall inability to predict crime is due to many discrepancies found in the risk assessment.
First white defendants were predicted to be less risky than they actually were with white
defendants mislabeled low risk almost twice as often as black defendants. Black defendants were
45% more likely to be assigned higher risk scores than white defendants when controlling for prior
crimes, future recidivism, age and gender. Black defendants were also twice as likely to be
misclassified as being higher risk for violent crimes than white defendants while white defendants
that do reoffend with violent crimewere 63% more likely to have been misclassified as low risk for
violent crime. Finally, black defendants were 77% more likely to be... Show more content on

Additionally, data from internet will not be a good way to determine whether a person is a
terrorist especially if that person has shown themselves critical of the Trump administration. This
algorithm may classify them as terrorist simply because they don t agree with current policies
while clearly disagreeing on policy does not many a person a terrorist. There are many approaches
and algorithms involved in machine learning. Some such algorithms are decision tree learning,
association rule learning, reinforcement learning and rule based machine learning. All these
algorithms sound similar to what the names suggest in which decision trees are made to make
decisions and learn, association rule learning is from discovering relations between variables,
reinforcement learning is when it learns what to do through reinforcement, and rule based learning
is where rules are stored about how to use knowledge. While these all can mirror to some extent
variations of human learning and decision making, not every aspect that occurs in a human brain
is in the algorithms that exist such as the higher level processes that occur within decision making
and learning so therefore it is difficult to mirror all human aspects of learning and behavior in AI.
Due to these differences in learning, prejudice in AI is different than the usual mechanism seen in
people. While AI is able to learn stereotypes, and pick up on language bias like humans do through

Wearable Computers Are The Greatest Innovation Of Science
Wearable Computers
Wearable computers are one of the greatest innovation of science. Wearable computers are also
called body borne computers. It can be fitted on wrist, eyes or under the clothes. Its aim is to
measure the human movements. When wearable computer attached to human body it records the
experience faced by a human. Wearable computer s main features are consistency and ability to
multi task. It starts in 1800s, timepiece the first wearable was made by watchmaker Breguet for the
Queen of Naples in 1810. As time goes the quality of wearable computer increased. There are four
main segments of wearable technology :
(1) HEALTH AND FITNESS BODY COMPUTERS: Health related wearable computers are...

Headbands or armbands provide feedback on calories burned, assisting a dieter with adjusting
food consumption and exercise to achieve desired results. Sensing devices provide data on
physical symptoms related to the wearer s psychological state, assisting mental health providers.
(3) INDUSTRY WEARABLE COMPUTERS: The auto repair industry embraces wearable
computers and uses body computers for many functions. A baseball cap clip on allows a
mechanic to view a schematic of an engine or parts assembly while working on the engine.
Warehouse workers wear computer headsets that allow the worker to access data regarding product
inventory. The data is delivered audibly, keeping the worker free to operate equipment and perform
other functions. Wearable body computers for industry are built of tough materials and are
lightweight, permitting a worker to wear a computer headband or wristband without distraction. (4)
EMERGENCY WORKERS WEARABLE COMPUTERS : Wearable computers increase safety for
emergency workers. By wearing body computers, firefighters may be monitored by a supervisor
who is alerted when a firefighter is reaching dangerous core temperature levels. Wrist worn
computers allow policemen, hospital staff and other emergency workers to communicate without
interruption or having to use their hands to operate the devices. Other body computers contain
integrated global positioning systems, providing the worker with safety through the ability to locate

Immigration Policy In Canada
In 2013, according to the United Nations there were approximately 231 million people residing in
a country other than their place of birth. Amongst western societies, Canada is considered one of
the generous countries to immigrate to with one of the highest per capita admission rates. It has, on
average, offered placement to more than 200,000 immigrants per year over the past decade, earning
Canadaa global reputation for its open arms attitude.
Since Confederation, Canada s immigration landscape has been in a state of constant transformation.
In 2014, the federal government announced major changes to its immigration system pressing many
Canadians to raise questions about the immigration strategies sponsored by the country s political
parties. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gergin (2011) suggests that the Conservatives have crafted an immigration policy that is less
compassionate and more economically based. He goes on to argue that the family class
immigration initiatives has virtually vanished under the Harper government and that the leadership
continues to amend the formula towards the entrepreneurial and well educated individual who
should easily integrate successfully into the state s economy and social spheres.
Scholars assert that the key theme in the evolution of Canada s immigration strategy is the
perceived trade off between short term and long term objectives. Canada s shifting immigration
policy and the emphasis placed on specific immigration goals will always invite critics and expose
competing immigration principles amid Canada s political parties.

Relational Theory In The Film Erin Brockovich
In this paper, I will be applying the relational theory on a scene from the movie Erin Brockovich .
I choose a scene that happened between Erin and her boyfriend George. In the scene Erin was
coming late from work and George was waiting for her in their bedroom. He packed his bag and
was prepared to leave the house. While he was waiting he had an earrings in his hand that he
bought as a gift to Erin that he never had a chance to give it to her, since she was busy with her
work for the last six months and he barely had the chance to spent some time with her. At this
point George was feed up with the situation and asked Erin to choose either she finds another job
or she should find another guy. Erin said that she can not quit her job because it was the first
time in her life where people are respecting her and listening to what she had to say. Which is
something that she never had before. When George asked Erin: What about me? she explained
how none of the previous men in her life cared about what she need or want before leaving and
that she had always bend her life for what the men needs and she won t do that any more. Then,
George said that his not like those men, and asked her: what can he do more to prove that to her? .
Erin said to him: Stay . George... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hollywood Is Bad News For Creativity Analysis
Summary of Why Hollywood s Business Model Is Bad News for Creativity
The times are changing, and so is Hollywood, according to Edward Jay Epstein, author of the
article Why Hollywood s Business Model Is Bad News for Creativity . He believes that the big
Hollywood studios that mass produce movies nowadays have ruined the future for low budget
films that are more about creativity and good dialogue. In this article, Epstein appears to be
reaching out to anyone who enjoys movies, and is informing the readers about the truth behind the
movies we all know and love. The animated or comic based movies that take over the big screen
are making it almost impossible for the more original film makers to produce films that aren t

The General Theory Of Crime
Historically, criminologists have separately studied the pattern and causes of criminal offending
and the pattern and causes of victimization (Piquero et al., 2005, p.55). This began to change when
criminologists recognized a strong relationship between offending and victimization. Scholars argue
that this relationship can be explained by a common underlying trait of low self control.
Gottfredson and Hirschi first introduced low self control as an explanation of offending in the
General Theory of Crime, and more recent studies have applied the theory to victimization. In this
paper, we will first discuss Gottfredson and Hirschi s General Theory of Crime as it applies to
criminality. Then, we will review the literature to see how their... Show more content on

They also tend to engage in analogous criminal acts such as smoking, drinking, gambling,
irresponsible sex, and speeding in cars. In households where children are cared for and
appropriately disciplined, those children develop the self control needed, through socialization, to
resist the easy temptations offered by crime. This early developmental process is key in setting the
stage for later life. (McMurtry Curling, 2008)
Gottfredson and Hirschi strayed from Hirschi s previous theory that social control protected
people from participating in criminal activities in favor of the conception that self control, or
lack thereof, could be used to explain criminal behavior. According to the general theory of
crime, crime occurs through the following process: (1) an impulsive personality to (2) lack of
self control to (3) the withering of social bonds to (4) the opportunity to commit crime and
delinquency to (5) deviant behavior. Gottfredson and Hirschi suggest that those who engage in
crime do so to obtain immediate gratification. People with a propensity for criminal involvement
are said to lack self control, or the ability to delay short term desires. Theorists state that this lack
of self control can be traced back to early childhood when early indications of deviant behavior
emerge. For those with low self control, participation in deviant behavior continues

Theme Of Death In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
The Mesopotamian understanding of death is uniquely different from modern understandings in
that the Mesopotamians lacked a belief in their own free will. The Mesopotamian epic poem, The
Epic of Gilgamesh, can, as a result of both the theology and cosmogony of the civilization, be
viewed as the first literary meditation on death and the human condition. The hero of the epic,
Gilgamesh, through a metaphorical self death, via the death of his only equal, Enkidu, can begin to
comprehend the idea of death. The Epic of Gilgamesh, above all else, is a reflection on mortality
and the human place in the cosmos.
Gilgamesh is two thirds (Gilgamesh 61) god, and, as a result of this, lives with a sense of
invincibility. The idea of death, of ceasing to exist in his temporal form, does not originally
frighten him, as it does Enkidu, who is able to grasp the true nature of existence because of his
bestial nature. Raised among beasts and the wilderness, death is a very real and very present
threat to Enkidu. Though Gilgamesh is aware that only the gods live forever (71) while men s
days are numbered (71), his understanding of his place in the cosmos is limited. Gilgamesh is
unable to comprehend that though he is part god, he is not a god, and therefore, is subject to
mortal laws and constraints. This is evident by his conduct prior to the arrival of Enkidu, when he
behaves monstrously. His lust leaves no virgin to her lover (62), and sounds the tocsin for his
amusement (62).

Cardiopulmonary Pressure
I. Abstract: The effects on different aspects of cardiopulmonary fitness, respiratory rate, mean
arterial pressures, electrical activity of the heart, and pulse rate, were all tested on Freshmen
Biology students in regards to how exercise affects the results and if there is a difference between
males and females. Students did a moderate intensity exercise for two minutes, and the results
were recorded. There was at least a slight gender difference between all three measurements; for
all three, males, on average, had a higher net change after exercise. This, however, could have been
in part due to errors. In addition, both genders saw an increase after exercise in all three
measurements, which was expected. In the future, one should repeat the... Show more content on

Males, on average, increased their mean arterial pressure by 12.835 units. In contrast, females
increased their mean arterial pressure by 2.25 units; however, there was one girl whose mean
arterial pressure dropped after exercising instead of increasing. Both males and females all
recovered from the exercise within the four minutes given to recover.
The pulse rate of both male and female genders increased collectively following exercise, but the
males increased drastically more on average than the females . Male pulse rate had an average
change of 30 units, where as the females pulse rate had an average increase of 19.5 units. One
aspect that might have influenced the female results was the fact that one female s pulse
decreased after exercise instead of increasing. Two males and two females were able to recover
their pulse after exercise near to the rest numbers, but the other four people were unable to return to
their normal pulse.
Finally, the graph taken from one group doing the electrical activity is shown at the end of the
results. It is a standard graph of an ECG, and the specific waves/points are labeled on the graph.

Stimulation Recording in Frog Sciatic Nerve
Stimulation Recording in Frog Sciatic Nerve
Methods:
Dissection of the Gastrocnemius Muscle and the Sciatic Nerve
In this experiment the frog sciatic nerve was used; the frogs were carefully handled and deeply
anesthetized in order to be permanently unconscious. Pithing was used to destroy the brain pain
center making the frog insensitive to pain. The gastrocnemius muscle was dissected and the sciatic
nerve was carefully removed. The frog ringer solution was prepared. The ingredients used
included 0.14g of KCl, 6.5g of NaCl, 0.3g of CaCl2.2H2O and 0.5g NaHCO3. These were mixed
in 600ml of distilled water and the pH was held between 7 7.4. This solution was used throughout
the experiment to keep the nerve moist order to obtain accurate results.
Electrophysiological Configuration of the BIOPAC
A standard nerve chamber called BIPOAC was used in this experiment; the nerve along with the
muscle was placed on the electrodes of this chamber. An amplifier with a 100 AC gain and filter
band pass of 0.1 Hz to 10Hz sampled by IGOR software was used to amplify the response of the
nerve when stimulus is applied. IGOR is an integrated program for visualizing, analyzing,
transforming and presenting data. Using this program the thresholds of the compound action
potential, end plate potential, the conduction velocity and the paired pulse facilitation in the sciatic
nerve of the frog was found. IGOR traces obtained using various stimuli are important in
understanding nerve stimulation and

Idealism In W. D. Valgardson s The Novice
Idealism is fine, but as it approaches reality, the cost becomes prohibitive. William F. Buckley Jr.
Here, William F. Buckley Jr. sends a warning: that idealism itself is fine, but idealism which
threatens reality can have prohibitive consequences. W.D. Valgardson s short story, The Novice,
shows a sailor reflecting on his life, and his fate, as he and what s left of his crew wade in Alberta
s Lake Narrows, waiting for sunrise. In WD Valgardson s, The Novice the reader should come to
the realization that idealism may be dangerous when it skews the truth, but that it is ultimately
necessary in the face of misfortune, so one may maintain hope in the face of challenging obstacles.
In The Novice the protagonist and his crew end up in their life threatening situation through a

The State Of Michig A Fascinating Area
The state of Michigan is a fascinating area. From its mitten like shape, to its historical
background, to the presence of the Great Lakes, Michigan has a story unlike any others. One very
important part of Michigan s story is how water has shaped the land making up the state. Seeing as
the Great Lakes surround Michigan, it is obvious that the hydrologic system plays a great role in
the water supply and the ecosystem of the Great Lakes. The hydrologic cycle includes evaporation,
condensation, precipitation, groundwater, transpiration and runoff, all of which keep the Great
Lakes functioning year after year. The University Corporation of Atmospheric Research
developed an image to simply explain the hydrologic cycle as well as graphs explaining how each
of the elements of the hydrologic cycle affects The Great Lakes on a monthly basis (located below).
The hydrologic cycle keeps the Great Lakes up and running. Without it, Michigan would not
have the inhabitants it does today. The abundant supply of water allows a vast array of wildlife
to live in Michigan, and made it a desirable place for early settlers to inhabit. However, the Great
Lakes did not just appear out of thin air. There is a long history of how the Great Lakes came to be.
The long history of the formation of the Great Lakes and Michigan start with the impact of
glaciers. Throughout history, there have been four major periods where glaciers moved across
Michigan, shaping and forming the land. Every time a glacier

International Relations In Yogyakarta
Yogyakarta
It has been a widespread knowledge that the international relations study is state centric , as it
concerns and analyzes more towards interactions of state, whether bilaterally and/or multilaterally.
However, this misappropriation of focus created a rather problematic understanding of
International Relations as a whole, as there are actors which often times are also quite fitting to be
analyzed, such as NGOs, MNCs, Societies, Individuals and so on and so forth. In spirit of this
rather unorthodox choice of actors, there is one particular actor which has a rather big say in
shaping national politics if not world politics, cities.

is through mobile apps which account for about 90% of mobile activity, whereas browsers only

Away With Bulimia
Wasting Away with Bulimia Eating disorders can affect any and every person in today s society.
Men, Women, young and old. Bulimia has not one preferred victim, Bulimia can affect us all. In
today s society being fit is in. The thinner the better , The skinnier the prettier Nothing taste as
good as skinny feels those are just some of the clichГ©s we hear on the day to day basis. We live
in a world that idolizes beauty, and not the kind that is within but the kind that we can see.
Everywhere we turn there is some slender beauty or some buff guy striking a pose for the

disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental disorder, the mortality rates reported on
those who suffer from eating disorders can vary considerably between studies and sources. Part of
the reason why there is a large variance in the reported number of deaths caused by eating disorders
is because those who suffer from an eating disorder may ultimately die of heart failure, organ

Difference Between Impressionism And Impressionism
Emily Musick
Erin Brabazon
English Composition
31 January 2016
Realism and Impressionism Art has progressed in many ways throughout history; two prominent
styles however that define the evolution of art are Realism and Impressionism. Realism is defined
as treatment of forms, colors, space, etc., in such a manner as to emphasize their correspondence to
actuality or to ordinary visual experience (realism). Two artists that are well known for this style of
art are Gustave Courbet and Jean François Millet. Impressionism is defined as a style of painting
developed in the last third of the 19th century, characterized chiefly by short brushstrokes of bright
colors in immediate juxtaposition to represent the effect of light on objects (impressionism). Claude
Monet and Pierre Auguste Renoir are pioneers of defining the Impressionist movement. These
artists use a variety of techniques, perspectives, subject matter, as well as influences to create the
art we see hanging in museums today. Realism is easily identified when we analyze the works of
Gustave Courbet and Jean François Millet. 19th century French painter Courbet is even known for
creating the term Realism. Courbet aspired to find liberty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Presidential Election Of 1968 Essay
America has always been a proud nation full of nationalism as well. The people, looked up to
their government and their presidents for what to do during the dark days of depression, war,
economic shutdown, and communism. The people knew who their enemies were or at least had
a description. America never truly had a reason to doubt their leaders, those were the people who
lead the nation to victory. Then there was a blow, a crisis that flipped everyone s views and values
upside down. There was an enemy that needed to be defeated, needed to , for this moment was that
the so called enemy was the president himself, Richard Nixon.
He was first seen in the presidential seen was in the 1960 elections against John F. Kennedy,
which he lost. Though he was not discourage and ran again during the presidential election of
1968. After already losing one election, Nixon was worried about the results, but this time, luck
and the electoral college was on his side this time and won with pretty eye opening results. It
wasn t until his re election where Nixon was really worried, he didn t know what to think about
the results, but the only thing he was sure was that he was going to lose and without doing
anything, he was going to watch how bad he was going to lose the presidency again. He already
lost once and he wasn t going to lose another time, especially to George McGovern. Well, he won.
Nixon won in a victorious landslide victory, the biggest victory in American history.[1] In response

Scotland because it was about 70 years before the two kingdoms were united. In Scotland, John

but in 1546, he turned away from Catholic and embraced reformation probably provoked by
Wishart s death. George Wishart was a reformist who fled to Scotland in 1538. Knox became one
of the closest associates of Wishart and deeply rooted in Protestantism. In 1546, reformists
forcefully took a garrison to take refuge. Scotland called for France for help and Knox was captured

to England to take refuge. He was appointed one of royal chaplain for Edward VI. His position
was changed due to the reign of Mary I, so called Bloody Mary. She restored Catholicism to
England from 1553 onwards. John Knox fled to Geneva in 1554 and met Calvin. He learned more
of reformed theology and Presbyterian polity. There he wrote a series of tracts on political

The Impact Of Volunteerism On American Society
It is evident that the tradition of volunteerism may have a profound impact on American Society. To
some extent, we tend to agree that recruiting methods can be critical for both the decision to
volunteer and the settings in which adult people volunteer. Accordingly, Florida Hospital staff
believe that volunteers and interns are an important part of their commitment to world class
healthcare and their goal of extending healing through the ministry of Christ (Volunteers n.d.). On a
significant level, we might need to find out the best recruiting strategies and implementing ideas on
how to increase such a vital volunteerpopulation.
For instance, the best recruiting strategies will be depending on the way the hospital services feed
the immediate need of the community. We can begin with a powerful message that volunteeringand
interning will save life. Accordingly, volunteering can help to provide people with ways out of

Gender And Sexual Identity Within Funhome
Gender and Sexual Identity within Funhome
In the novel Fun Home , the main character and author, Alison Bechdel, struggles to identify her
sexual orientation while discovering that her father is a closet homosexual pedophile. The theme of
sexual and gender identity is very apparent throughout the novel mainly due to the fact that Alison
is struggling to identify that she is a lesbian and the fact that her dad is also gay.Alison and her dad
struggled to assume the proper gender roles because they all yearned for something more, but in the
end they both came to terms with their true identities and accepted their sexual orientation. Alison s
father, Bruce Bechdel, struggled with sexual orientation his whole life. He turned to little boys
and decorating his house in order to satisfy his needs He appeared to be an ideal husband and
father, for example..... But would an ideal father and husband have sex with teenage boys .
Bruce seemed as though he was the perfect family man due to his outer persona Sometimes,
when things were going well, I think my father actually enjoyed having a family. Or at least, the
air of authenticity we leant to his exhibit. A sort of still life with children. He kept the house
spotless and perfect, revived pieces of art, and took on projects, and worked on the family business
to distract himself. Behind closed doors, He was never very affectionate with the family and was
also very verbally abusive his family . The only time that Bruce

History of the Founding of Israel
During World War II, millions of Jews fled from Germany to escape the brutality of Adolf Hitler.
A Zionist movement established that all Jewish refugees were to flee to Palestine, a concept
founded by The Jewish State, by Dr. Theodore Herzl, in order to unite all Jews in one holy state.
The British were convinced in 1917 by Chaim Weizmann that all Jews needed their own territory
in Palestine, and in the early 1920s, the British were given a mandate over Palestine by the
League of Nations. Palestinians felt threatened by the rise in Jewish presence in their state,
causing widespread fighting in order to expel Jews from the Arabians sacred Palestinian land.
Ben Gurion (also known as a member to the World Zionist Congress) was leader of the Jewish
peoples in 1947, whereas there was no single leader of the Arabs, there were several influential
figures to the cause: Haj Amin el Husseini grand mufti of Jerusalem, Azzam Pasha secretary
general of the Arab League, King Abdullah of Transjordan only leader open to a Arab Jewish
compromise, and Glubb Pasha commander of the British trained Arab Legion. Along with the
views of King Abdullah of Transjordan, there had been talks of a compromise between the two, of
which the Jews were favoring and the Arabs condemned. In 1947, the United Nations Committee
on Palestine (UNSCOP) ordered that Palestine be split into two states one Jewish, one Palestinian.

Allusions In Dracula
Hidden in Bram Stoker s Dracula contains abundant amounts of allusions and social commentaries.
These rhetorical devices help connect the reader to the experience of the novel and allow them to
have a more in depth understanding of the characters, and usage of religious allusions abets the
reader in achieving that goal. In the worldwide masterpiece Dracula, Stoker uses religious,
mythical, and archetypical allusions to depict Dracula as a peculiar and distinct creature as well as
providing social commentary for current problems during the late Victorian era.
Dracula is seen as the evil mastermind and the villain in archetypal terms. He also has copious
amounts of vampire characteristics; Dracula is described as brute, and more than brute: ... Show

Many of the symbols in the novel are actually important social commentary during the late
Victorian period. For example, many religious objects Dracula shows weakness to shows the
chasm between the religions of Anglican and Catholic Church, as Crucifixes, communion wafers,
and convents are not, despite the bulk of critical attention reading them thusly, exclusively
Catholic (Bowles 2). Stoker is insinuating a possible mending of relations between the two
religions. Also, the usage of religions items shows that science that the West uses cannot usurp
Dracula; instead, the hero has to look into superstition for the cure. In this sense, science is
portrayed as a dangerous entity and many old, superstitious beliefs are reconsidered.
Simultaneously, Harker is seen as having a sense of condescending and untrustworthy attitude
towards the east and their superstition, as shown a crucifix he has been taught to regard such
things as in some measure idolatrous (Stoker 9). Stoker also seems ignorant of Eastern culture,
as he does not know the meaning of eve of St. George s Day (Stoker 9). Also, from the fact that
Roman Catholic populations within Ireland simply do not function in London , it is
understandable why Harker sees another religion in a negative light. (Bowles 1) In the real world,
Stoker is calling for reconciliation of religion, while in the novel, Stoker shows the reason Dracula
cannot die easily. By forcing to use other cultures and their teachings, Stoker shows how others
could have the answers and depict Dracula as an interesting

Comparing The Once And Future King
Written by T. H. White, The Once and Future King tells the life of King Arthur. In four books, T.
H. White chronicles the rise and fall of King Arthur. The Sword and the Stone, the first book of
The Once and Future King, details what King Arthur learned as a child when he was not known to
be the next King of England under the influence of his pacifistic tutor Merlyn. He learns that being
fair and just is better than power and tyranny. In the next book, The Queen of Air and Darkness,
King Arthuris guided by Merlyn and applies what he learned as a child to his reign as King to
create the Round Table , where all knights are equal and will use their Might for Right , using
their power for good, not tyranny. In the third book, The Ill Made Knight, King Arthur tries to
keep his Round Table from splitting, all the while his wife, Guenever, and his best knight and
friend, Lancelot, are rumoured to be having an affair. In The Candle in the Wind, the last book,
King Arthur creates laws and uses trials, juries, and evidence to instil justice as his last attempt to
create a perfect society. Throughout his life, King Arthur is seen as benevolent, brave, chivalrous,
open minded, progressive, determined, optimistic, and faithful. King Arthur s traits portray him
positively, but he is not perfect and his flaws can sometimes portray him negatively. King Arthur

J. R. R. Tolkien s Influence On The Hobbit
The Hobbit, written by J.R.R. Tolkien, is a children s fantasy novel (though the series The Lord
of the Rings that followed its story was more tuned to adults) that was first published in 1937.
When it was first released, it received critical acclaim from millions of readers, and it was
eventually nominated for the Carnegie Medal and won Best Juvenile Fiction from the New York
Herald Tribune. However, despite its success, the most enduring trait of the novel is its connection
with readers throughout generations that has inspired countless authors and readers. Most people
know the story of The Hobbit, so in this essay, we will explore the creation of this beloved literary

William Morris, who was a 19th century English poet, translator, and creative genius, was a
significant figure to Tolkien. In fact, Tolkien desired to write more in Morris romantic style. In
particular, a chapter named The Desolation of Smaug was directly influenced by Morris style and
ideas (The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien). Another writer that left an impression on Tolkien was
Samuel Rutherford Crockett. His historical novel The Black Douglas and its villain Gilles de
Retz inspired The Hobbit s evil character Sauron. It is said the narrative style and even the events
in both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings were influenced by The Black Douglas (Lobdell,
Jared C.). The goblins within The Hobbit are closely associated with the goblins in the novel The
Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald. In addition, MacDonald impressed upon Tolkien
the role of fantasy in the context of Christianity (J. R. R. Tolkien Encyclopedia: Scholarship and
Critical Assessment). Another key influence on The Hobbit is Tolkien s adoration of Norse
mythology and Germanic philology. Not only are many myths from Norse mythology adapted
into The Hobbit, the names of the characters have a distinct Old Norse feel to them (Rateliff,
John D.). And speaking of characters, the dwarves were modeled after ancient Jewish people and
their history (Rateliff, John D.). Last but not least, the epic Beowulf was the main inspiration
behind the world Tolkien wanted to create. As Tolkien was a respected scholar of Beowulf, The
Hobbit was in part a tribute to the epic and a reworking of it (Purtill, Richard

Waterboarding History
The history of waterboarding goes back a lot further than most people even realize. The technique
commonly referred to as waterboarding was first documented in the 14th century, but has been used
on and off around the world since before the Spanish Inquisition1. The term waterboarding is
actually a reference to two different techniques, with one of them being the more commonly used
today. The first technique involves the pumping of water directly into a person s stomach. The
other technique is the one most people think of when they hear the word waterboarding. This
technique involves the placement of a cloth material over the mouth and a steady stream of water
poured into the throat. Those steps lead to the person being interrogated experiencing a feeling as if
they are drowning. This often leads to the unconsciousness of the interrogated. The person is
awoken and the cycle is continued until... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Waterboarding is known and used, because of the effectiveness at which it causes the person severe
mental suffering in an effort to gain intelligence. The fact that it meets the definition of the term
torture, means that it would be illegal under the same reasoning as torture is illegal under the
standards of International and U.S. law. Furthermore, one of the biggest arguments in favor of
waterboarding after the events of 9/11, was the fact that the U.S. was at war with terrorists. So
therefore it was ok to waterboard terrorists to find out information. However, Article 2 of the UN
convention against torture states, there are no circumstances whatsoever, whether a state of war or
a threat of war, that can be used as a justification for torture. This means that no matter what the
circumstances surrounding the reason behind someone being tortured, the act is still illegal by
international law and therefore illegal by U.S. standards as

Eric Erikson s Theory Of Psychosocial Development
Developmental psychology is a study of the growth and the maturation of a person over time.
How the individual grows psychically, cognitively and how they are socially over time. All of
these factors shape us into the person new become. I have decided to study in and focus on Erik
Erikson s theory of psychosocial development. He takes a closer look on the choices that we are
forced to deal with and the conflicts they make during different parts of their life. His theory has
eight theories, there are different types of problems and conflicts with each stage that an
individual will encounter and have to resolve. It s important to deal with these conflicts that are
presented to the individual during the stages, because if they are not taking care of the individual
will end up struggling with them later on in life. Erikson has a developmental process that
explains the development between infancy to adulthood. He explains this within 8 stages; during
these stages the individual experiences crisis which could have a positive or a negative outcome
on the person s personality. Erikson is known as an ego psychologist focusing on culture and
society and the conflicts that can take place with someone s ego (McLeod, S). The first stage is
trust vs. mistrust this occurs during the first year of life where the infant is uncertain about the
world and they have to develop feelings. The infant finds hope in trusting someone, and has to
figure out who they will choose not to trust. The

Of all the artists from the European Renaissance to have come from Venice, perhaps the most
important one of them all was Giovanni Bellini. Many of his works such as The Feast of the
Gods, Agony in the Garden, and Holy Allegory have become known around the world thanks to
various museums and their exhibits. Interestingly, there is the subject of his life story overall.
Regarding this, Philip Hendy wrote in one article for Encyclopedia Britannica, Giovanni Bellini,
(born c. 1430, Venice [Italy] died 1516, Venice), Italian painter who, in his work, reflects the

the colors faded into each other, thus creating smooth transitions with almost outlines around

leaving any shape outlines almost invisible. Furthermore, the natural world was a prevalent theme
in not just Venetian Renaissance art, but the Renaissance as a whole. Jessie Szalay once wrote for

Summary Cost of Capital
The Cost of Capital
1
Background
As investors desire to obtain the best/highest return on their investments in securities such as shares
(Equity) and loans to companies such as debentures (Debt), these returns are costs to the companies
paying these Dividends (on equity) and Interest (on
Debts)!
It all depends on the perspective from which we chose to view the calculation (are we Earning or
Paying?)
Companies MUST consider the cost of financing they receive in the form of equity or debt if they
are to manage their finances better; cheaper finance cost to the company means higher profitability
and in most cases, superior cash flow. Generally, the cost of EQUITY has no tax effect but the cost
of DEBT finance to companies are

The Cost of Debt
Based on equivalent assumptions to those used in the DVM above, we conclude that:
PV interest stream = Market Value (MV of debenture ) Note:
(DEBT in this case!)
The tax system gives tax relief on interest payments by allowing tax deductions from company s
Profit Loss account (thus REDUCING taxable profit). This has the effect of reducing the Cost of
DEBT or what do you think?
Lower Tax means lower cost of finance as WITHOUT the tax relief, the company will pay
HIGHER tax bills and the full cost of the loan BUT in this case, you pay the FULL interest BUT
save on TAX, see it?
Therefore the true cost to the company of servicing the debentures will be after the tax relief
subsidy is taken into account.

This war would go on for another four years, taking with it close to 50 million lives and devastating

United States understood that ending the war, especially the ongoing war in the pacific, was of

Persuasive Essay On Childcare
Childcare
Childcare is the starting point in your children s lives. The choices you make on childcare can
affect them greatly. It is when they will begin to meet the friends that they will grow up with as
they go through grade school. Children need this step in their lives to adjust from staying at home,
to staying with other children in a completely different surrounding. There are so many different
options for childcare now a days, it is extremely hard to say which is the most beneficial for
children. In this paper I will discuss the childcare decisions that my mother made for me, what to

You should check reviews and ask others parents for their opinions on the facility. Also see if they

Most importantly make sure that your child will have a safe and clean environment that they can
learn and grow in. The foundation for a clean and safe environment is so very important, you
should not have to worry about the wellbeing of you child while you are away. From the book
Improving Literacy in America: Guidelines from Research the author Frederick J. Morrison states
than As a more proximal source, early childhood care and education programs are seen as potent
weapons in the effort to improve children s literacy. If you do not take the precautions and insure
that your child will have the right start off to their education then yes it more than likely will end

Steganography Is The Method Of Hiding A Secret Message
Abstract: Steganography is the method of hiding a secret message with in a cover medium. The
intention of steganography is secret communication to hide the existence of a message from a third
party. It has found use in variously in diplomatic, personal, military and intellectual property
application. This paper emphasis is on digital applications and current and future use of
steganography, focusing on hiding information in online image files. Examples of software tools
that employ steganography to hide data inside of other files as well as software to detect such

Digital Image Carrier Methods:
In digital steganography techniques mostly graphical images file are used as the carrier medium
because of large amount of redundant bits and its simplicity. Messages can be hidden in digital
media in number of ways. The most common steganography method in image files employs some
type of least significant bit substitution or overwriting. In this method high order or most
significant bit is the one with the highest arithmetic value (i.e., 27=128), while the low order or
least significant bit is the one with the lowest arithmetic value (i.e., 20=1). In this approach only
few bits of image are overwritten by the message (ASCII) value, the numeric value of the byte

Questions, discussions, and opinions are on a rise to whether a new casino should be built in
Buffalo, New York. If we ask what benefits, or what economic development will this casino bring
to the community there would not be enough answers as to compare to the negative effects it will
actually bring. This essay will discuss the economic impacts, social and opportunity costs brought
by casinos from economist researchers who have showed significant points to why casino worsen
the economy and making it harder for local businesses and employment opportunity. To answer the
question, What is economic development? Dr. Grinols professor of economics at Baylor University
and author of Gambling in America: cost and benefits, 2004 said, When individuals undertake
productive activity, they engage in the creation of goods and service that provide greater welfare
or satisfaction than the inputs used. (Grinols 2004). Economic development is the creation of
greater value by society from its available resources which means greater income and wealth,
which lead to greater utility for members of society (Grinols 2004). Dr. Grinols

Essay on Point Clear, Alabama
For many, the quaint town of Point Clear, Alabama represents the Old South rooted in tradition,
charm, and grace. Halfway down the bay and nearly hidden among oaks adorned with Spanish
moss, Point Clear was founded in the early 1800s. Today, the city continues to honor its role in
the Civil War, perpetuates the memories of its residents, and evolves as a greater and better
place. Following the coast line, early Spanish explores first discovered Point Clear situated on the
Bay of the Holy Spirit or as it is known today, Mobile Bay. The town was named Punta Clara in
1800 by the Spanish explorers because it was an easily identifiable landmark along the bay that
marked the halfway point from the bay s southern edge to Mobile (Havner).... Show more content

Also, east of the Point Clear Hotel in the Point Clear Cemetery lay the graves of Confederate
soldiers who were treated at the Hotel and died in Point Clear during the Civil War
(Havner)(Walker). Point Clear had a huge influx of popularity in the years following the Civil
War. In the late 1800s and early 1900s wealthy planters from all over the South flocked to the
then Point Clear Hotel and the Texas Bar (Walker). In 1882 Dr. William H. Anderson , a Mobile
resident, wrote a brochure entitled, The City of Mobile and the Contiguous County and the Gulf
Coast as Winter Resort for Health and Pleasure of Invalids and other from the North and
Northwest, in which he describes the pleasures that were found in Point Clear. He explains:
Point Clear, a watering place about twenty miles from the city of Mobile, there is a large and
elegant hotel, filled in summer with visitors from Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. It is also
open in winter to all who may desire to take advantage of the salt air from the Gulf. This watering
place is the finest, most healthy and most commodious in the South (Sulzby).
Also in similar nature, Fredric P. Ravesies, President of the Vine and Olive Society and original
resident of Spring Hill, wrote in 1884 that:

Neutral Bathrooms In Schools
In my junior AP Class, my teacher assigned us a project in which we would come up with an idea
that would improve the quality of our school, and then create a proposal that we would take to the
school board in hopes of getting it actually implemented into the high school. My group was made
up of roughly six other students, and we were working towards adding genderneutral bathrooms to
the school. The idea was mine, and was mine because it s an issue that affects me and many of my
friends. I am transgender, I identify as nonbinary, as neither a boy nor a girl. Having to choose
between two incorrect gendered bathrooms to use can sometimes be emotionally taxing, and
stressful. The bathrooms would help not only me and other nonbinary students, but also binary
transgender students who feel uncomfortable or unsafe in the other bathrooms.... Show more content

People thought it was a waste of time, money, and resources. They didn t think that transgender
students deserved to have special privileges , they didn t want to expose people to transgender
students, they thought that cisgender students would use the bathrooms in order to have sex, they
thought that if a person was truly transgender, then they should be able to use their gender s
bathroom without a problem. There was a lot of ignorance and transphobia flying around that
made writing our proposal and plans difficult. We had to address everyone s issues with the idea,
and I admittedly had a lot of trouble dealing with

Supreme Court Cases During The Progressive Era
Progressive Era: The supreme court frequently began using the Tenth Amendment during the
progressive era. In various literatures I found of supreme court cases, it is seen that often times state
laws that established a maximum of work hours allow and/or to create working conditions. Various
legislation that were created were often times declared unconstitutional by the supreme court.
Legislation that were intended to help people were ruled unconstitutional because it supposedly
actually harmed workers by taking away their freedom to work long hours for low wages in such
conditions. Certain legal interpretation influenced Justices reasoning, and they decided that the
choice would affect the rights and liberties that the government should

Essay On How Computer Has Changed Business
Business existed in the world since human beings were born. Back to Paleolithic Age, our
ancestors were doing business by trading goods with each other and we call this Barter . They
traded goods whatever they needed. They could use food trade with furniture or they could use
tools trade with clothes. But then the problems were coming, sometimes, our ancestors found
that the prices of goods were not always consistent, and it was very inconvenient to carry heavy
goods around. Therefore, people decided to use rare metals (such as bronze, silver and gold) as
currencies. Later, coins were introduced as money around 700 B.C . The first paper currency in
record appeared in early China around 806AD and we call that JiaoZi . The paper... Show more

However, nothing could stop Charles s unswervingly spirit at that time, in 1837, he proposed the
first general mechanical computer, the Analytical Engine. The Analytical Engine contained an
Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU), basic flow control, punch cards (inspired by the Jacquard Loom), and
integrated memory. It was the first general purpose computer concept. Then in 1936, the Turing
Machine was invented by Alan Turing, it was a machine that printed symbols on paper tape in a
manner that emulated a person following a series of logical instructions. The theory of Turing
Machine laid the foundation about computing and computers. Since there, the computer industry s
development started an explosive growth. In 1943, J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly began
constructing the first functional and digital computer called ENIAC until 1946 when the
computer was complete. The appearance of ENIAC marked the beginning of a new era in not
only computer s history but also in human s history. The theories and ideas in ENIAC promoted
the Third Revolution. In fact, I believe the Third Revolution started from here. The world was no
longer the same as before, it changed by those great and intelligent scientists, and I call it the G
World .
b)Chapter 2 If computer s appearance represents the beginning of the Third Revolution, then the
Internet must be the fuse. Today s internet is more like a media which connects all the computer

Other indicators of neighborhood decline and disorder include vandalism, abandoned buildings,
graffiti, and vacant lots. Of all of the indicators assessed in a study done by Perkins, Meeks, and
Taylor in 1992, litter was found to have the strongest correlation with perceptions of
neighborhood decline and disorder (as in Florida Litter Study, 1998). A study by Skogan in
1990, indicates that the effects of this perception of neighborhood decline range from a decrease
in property values to an increase in crime, or at least an increase in criminals perception that
crime will be tolerated (as in Florida Litter Study, 1998). This study goes on to explain that as
people s perceptions of neighborhood decline increase, it is more likely that crime will occur and
that criminals will be drawn to the area because it appears more likely that criminal behavior will
be tolerated or ignored. A study by DeFrances and Titus in 1994 found a statistically significant
relationship between neighborhood disorder and burglary outcome indicating that burglaries are
more likely to be completed in neighborhoods with higher levels of disorder (as in Florida Litter
Study, 1998). The study by Skogan indicates that the effect of this perception of neighborhood
decline and increase in crime can also negatively impact property values and investment interest (as
in Florida Litter Study, 1998).

Family Story And Origin Of A New Environment
Every family story and origin is unique to the members of the immediate group, while including
the traditions passed from generation to generation. From the scent of their house and clothes,
special holidays, vacation spots, memories, what they eat and how it is served; all of these
elements of life are distinct to a family. These elements are incorporated into what is viewed as
normal life in a way that we don t see how our lives differ from those around us, until we are faced
with a situation where things are done differently than us. Many families contain multi cultural
backgrounds, therefore providing generations with traditions that include folklore from different
origins. One of the biggest elements of culture how dishes are served and prepared. If you ever
travel, one of the biggest attractions to a new environment is the foodthat is served in that area.
Some food traditions are difficult to explain and don t make sense to outsiders, but to the family
or local group it is a sense of definition and unity through foodways. In Louisiana especially, with
Cajun culture, we see many festivals and events that are food based, and the pride in the locals
that serve it. My family, all born and raised in the South, participate in the spicy food, crawfish
boils, jambalaya sales, gumbocooking events that this culture offers. From a young age I can
remember waking up on a Saturday morning in the fall, feeling the crisp air flow through the house
as we had the windows open,

Zora Neale Hurston Spunk Essay
Throughout history, everyone in the world has had to stick up for themselves at one point, no
matter the situation. Spunk by Zora Neale Hurston was written and published in 1925, this story
exemplifies the importance of sticking up for yourself. It was only the third short story Hurston
wrote, but it prospered. Zora Neale is best known for her works, Their Eyes Were Watching God
and Dust Tracks on a Road, both published in the late 1930s and early 1940s. She was an African
Americanactivist during the Harlem Renaissance who often focused on the African American
culture and experiences. Zora Neale Hurstonwas born in a small town, Eatonville, Florida, which

The, Dinner With Mary Morstan And Watson
Cognitive Psychology is the study of the human mind; it is how we reason, decide, and produce and
comprehend language. In order achieve this we use both mental representations and mental
processes. Like in any other situation, much of these cognitive functions are being used in the
Sherlock s Holmes YouTube video Dinner with Mary Morstan and Watson .
At the beginning of the clip, you can hear the noise of the restaurant. Holmes closes his eyes, then
shortly afterwards Watson calls his name. This redirects his attentionto the source of the stimulus,
Watson. We refer to this phenomenon as the Cocktail Party Effect. This effect describes the brain s
ability to block out unimportant stimuli in order to focus upon more important stimuli. They are
doing this in the restaurant with a room filled with people; who are having their own separate
conversations yet they are still able to ignore background conversations and focus on theirs.
Furthermore, the Stoplight Theory indicated that our attention is invoked Like Spotlight that
highlights information within its beam, in this view, spatial attention selectively brings
information within a circumscribed region of space to awareness, and information out that region
is more likely to be ignored. (Kosslyn, 2007, p. 130) Indicating that whatever falls within our
region is our main focus of attention. In addition, while Holmes is analyzing Mary, he is able to
concentrate on individual bits of detail while placing his awareness solely

By far one of the most fascinating achievements of the Mayans was there methods and
development of their beautiful architectural buildings and designs. Whether their temples,
complexes, buildings, homes, sidewalks or causeways (which were built by hand cut lime

Classic Period usually consisted of a series of platforms topped by masonry structures, ranging
from great temple pyramids and palaces to individual house mounds. These structures were in
turn arranged around open plazas or courtyards. Maya architecture is characterized by a
sophisticated sense of decoration and art, expressed in beautiful carvings and wall paintings,
unlike any others. Throughout the Mayans 2000 year history, their unique warfare tactics turned
out to be very successful for their civilization. Unlike most other civilizations, instead of a head to
head close range battle, the Mayans built an army of spearmen and arrow shooters to kill the
enemy. Long range war tactic was there specialty and it worked. They killed their enemy before
their enemy could reach them, using the land and surroundings they built trenches and barricades to

Online therapy is professional counseling services that are offered over the internet. Online therapy
allows clients and professionals to communicate over the internet without having to communicate in
the traditional office visits. In addition, online therapy allows clients and patients to attend online
counseling in which the clients will feel more comfortable and less intimidated.
On the other hand, clients are more likely to be open and honest when communicating through

Before beginning the online process, each client has to fill out an online questionnaire. Once
Jacqueline receives the client s questionnaire, she will then review it and provide suggestions.
Clients can e mail her as many times as they would like. Furthermore, if a client wants to
communicate over the phone, then Jackie will prepare a different schedule for the clients in which
it is a different process than the online process ( Marriage Matters, LLC Online Counseling , 2013).
Additionally, Jackie provides online counseling that allows clients to work with their spouses
through online interaction. In general, Jackie believes that online counseling works because
clients are able to get assistance quickly about their main concerns. Nevertheless, Jackie feels that
she provides a concrete understanding and provides suggestions and recommendations that will
help clients to clarify, resolve, or improve the situation that is present. Jackie strives at working
with many clients by providing follow up clarification and explanations if need be. This will help
clients to improve their lives and be able to move forward in life without any obstacles.
Furthermore, Jackie feels that online counseling allows clients to take as much time as needed in
order to provide information about their situation and be able to get a quickly respond back. Also,
there are printable documents that clients can review and clients do not need to make any

Lesley Gillespie, the cofounder of Australia s most successful bakery, Baker s Delight, has

BRW Rich Women 2015 list. In an equal partnership with husband Roger, her position as joint
chief executive puts her on the list of a minority of business owned by women, especially in the
1980 s when Bakers Delight was opened. Though she has said that she has not faced many
barriers to being a woman in business, apart from a few instances, a woman would likely not have
made it to be so successful without focus, thinking of those around her, passion, self motivation and
without being a hard worker, all of which are traits required to be an entrepreneur.... Show more

When sales and profits weren t going as well, in 1988 Bakers Delight became a franchise. In 1988,
Lesley and Roger owned 15 bakeries. They became a franchise after the influx of ones such as KFC
and McDonalds. By 1991, had grown to 43 bakeries across Victoria. In the next two years, Bakers
Delight grew to 200 bakeries and ten years later, 600. Now, there are more than 700 bakeries over
three countries, and Bakers Delight is more successful than ever.
Any business, no matter what, is going to fail if the product is not of good quality. You wouldn t

  • 2. Homelessness in Cincinnati Essay In Ohio (The Tri state), and over the last 17 years, there has been a 160% population increase. Homelessness has become a problem in the city of Cincinnati. Many families are homeless because of job layoffs and exhausted unemployment benefits. Some families are employed but do not earn enough wages to support a family and pay for adequate housing. Young single mothers can receive welfare benefits (Aid for Dependent Children) for 36 months. During that time they are supposed to be furthering their education or preparing to go to work. If neither is accomplished, the mother will receive medical for the children and food stamps only. If the family is not residing in subsidized housing they may have to stay with family members or seek... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People are forced to move and find other dwellings. For example, an apartment building called the metro pole was recently sold for renovation. The people who reside in the building are the disabled, mentally ill or people difficult to place in other housing, for some reason or another. The building was built more than 30 years ago and has 230 two room affordable apartments; in a very convenient location near downtown Cincinnati, close to bus stops, and shopping. The building will be renovated to a 160 room lustrous hotel, so that upscale workers can be near their jobs. In 2008, city council had limited jobs for human service workers for the people in over the Rhine. Over the Rhine is a small community in the heart and back end of downtown Cincinnati, known as the ghetto. It consists of poor people of all nationalities and in which most of the homeless live. Although organizations are working with the Cincinnati Interfaith Worker Center in helping day labor workers organize to improve job stipulations; wages, and working conditions(Greater Cincinnati Coalition for the Homeless, 2010), jobs are still not an option in Cincinnati for the homeless, or those with criminal records. When the only viable jobs are offered by labor pools, the people are often exploited and treated with less dignity and have the lowest most devastating working conditions. Those who can only work part time, or have no transportation must car pool with someone or pay the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First white defendants were predicted to be less risky than they actually were with white defendants mislabeled low risk almost twice as often as black defendants. Black defendants were 45% more likely to be assigned higher risk scores than white defendants when controlling for prior crimes, future recidivism, age and gender. Black defendants were also twice as likely to be misclassified as being higher risk for violent crimes than white defendants while white defendants that do reoffend with violent crimewere 63% more likely to have been misclassified as low risk for violent crime. Additionally, data from internet will not be a good way to determine whether a person is a terrorist especially if that person has shown themselves critical of the Trump administration. This algorithm may classify them as terrorist simply because they don t agree with current policies while clearly disagreeing on policy does not many a person a terrorist. There are many approaches and algorithms involved in machine learning. Some such algorithms are decision tree learning, association rule learning, reinforcement learning and rule based machine learning. All these algorithms sound similar to what the names suggest in which decision trees are made to make decisions and learn, association rule learning is from discovering relations between variables, reinforcement learning is when it learns what to do through reinforcement, and rule based learning is where rules are stored about how to use knowledge. While these all can mirror to some extent variations of human learning and decision making, not every aspect that occurs in a human brain is in the algorithms that exist such as the higher level processes that occur within decision making and learning so therefore it is difficult to mirror all human aspects of learning and behavior in AI. Due to these differences in learning, prejudice in AI is different than the usual mechanism seen in people. While AI is able to learn stereotypes, and pick up on language bias like humans do through types of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I choose a scene that happened between Erin and her boyfriend George. In the scene Erin was coming late from work and George was waiting for her in their bedroom. He packed his bag and was prepared to leave the house. While he was waiting he had an earrings in his hand that he bought as a gift to Erin that he never had a chance to give it to her, since she was busy with her work for the last six months and he barely had the chance to spent some time with her. At this point George was feed up with the situation and asked Erin to choose either she finds another job or she should find another guy. Erin said that she can not quit her job because it was the first time in her life where people are respecting her and listening to what she had to say. Which is something that she never had before. Hollywood Is Bad News For Creativity Analysis Summary of Why Hollywood s Business Model Is Bad News for Creativity The times are changing, and so is Hollywood, according to Edward Jay Epstein, author of the article Why Hollywood s Business Model Is Bad News for Creativity . He believes that the big Hollywood studios that mass produce movies nowadays have ruined the future for low budget films that are more about creativity and good dialogue. In this article, Epstein appears to be reaching out to anyone who enjoys movies, and is informing the readers about the truth behind the movies we all know and love. • 8. The General Theory Of Crime Historically, criminologists have separately studied the pattern and causes of criminal offending and the pattern and causes of victimization (Piquero et al., 2005, p.55). This began to change when criminologists recognized a strong relationship between offending and victimization. Scholars argue that this relationship can be explained by a common underlying trait of low self control. Gottfredson and Hirschi first introduced low self control as an explanation of offending in the General Theory of Crime, and more recent studies have applied the theory to victimization. In this paper, we will first discuss Gottfredson and Hirschi s General Theory of Crime as it applies to criminality. Then, we will review the literature to see how their... In households where children are cared for and appropriately disciplined, those children develop the self control needed, through socialization, to resist the easy temptations offered by crime. This early developmental process is key in setting the stage for later life. (McMurtry Curling, 2008) Gottfredson and Hirschi strayed from Hirschi s previous theory that social control protected people from participating in criminal activities in favor of the conception that self control, or lack thereof, could be used to explain criminal behavior. According to the general theory of crime, crime occurs through the following process: (1) an impulsive personality to (2) lack of self control to (3) the withering of social bonds to (4) the opportunity to commit crime and delinquency to (5) deviant behavior. Gottfredson and Hirschi suggest that those who engage in crime do so to obtain immediate gratification. People with a propensity for criminal involvement are said to lack self control, or the ability to delay short term desires. Theorists state that this lack of self control can be traced back to early childhood when early indications of deviant behavior emerge. For those with low self control, participation in deviant behavior continues ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Theme Of Death In The Epic Of Gilgamesh The Mesopotamian understanding of death is uniquely different from modern understandings in that the Mesopotamians lacked a belief in their own free will. The Mesopotamian epic poem, The Epic of Gilgamesh, can, as a result of both the theology and cosmogony of the civilization, be viewed as the first literary meditation on death and the human condition. The hero of the epic, Gilgamesh, through a metaphorical self death, via the death of his only equal, Enkidu, can begin to comprehend the idea of death. The Epic of Gilgamesh, above all else, is a reflection on mortality and the human place in the cosmos. Gilgamesh is two thirds (Gilgamesh 61) god, and, as a result of this, lives with a sense of invincibility. The idea of death, of ceasing to exist in his temporal form, does not originally frighten him, as it does Enkidu, who is able to grasp the true nature of existence because of his bestial nature. Raised among beasts and the wilderness, death is a very real and very present threat to Enkidu. Though Gilgamesh is aware that only the gods live forever (71) while men s days are numbered (71), his understanding of his place in the cosmos is limited. Gilgamesh is unable to comprehend that though he is part god, he is not a god, and therefore, is subject to mortal laws and constraints. This is evident by his conduct prior to the arrival of Enkidu, when he behaves monstrously. His lust leaves no virgin to her lover (62), and sounds the tocsin for his amusement (62). ... Abstract: The effects on different aspects of cardiopulmonary fitness, respiratory rate, mean arterial pressures, electrical activity of the heart, and pulse rate, were all tested on Freshmen Biology students in regards to how exercise affects the results and if there is a difference between males and females. Students did a moderate intensity exercise for two minutes, and the results were recorded. There was at least a slight gender difference between all three measurements; for all three, males, on average, had a higher net change after exercise. This, however, could have been in part due to errors. In addition, both genders saw an increase after exercise in all three measurements, which was expected. In the future, one should repeat the... The pulse rate of both male and female genders increased collectively following exercise, but the males increased drastically more on average than the females . Male pulse rate had an average change of 30 units, where as the females pulse rate had an average increase of 19.5 units. One aspect that might have influenced the female results was the fact that one female s pulse decreased after exercise instead of increasing. These were mixed in 600ml of distilled water and the pH was held between 7 7.4. This solution was used throughout the experiment to keep the nerve moist order to obtain accurate results. Electrophysiological Configuration of the BIOPAC A standard nerve chamber called BIPOAC was used in this experiment; the nerve along with the muscle was placed on the electrodes of this chamber. An amplifier with a 100 AC gain and filter band pass of 0.1 Hz to 10Hz sampled by IGOR software was used to amplify the response of the nerve when stimulus is applied. IGOR is an integrated program for visualizing, analyzing, transforming and presenting data. Using this program the thresholds of the compound action potential, end plate potential, the conduction velocity and the paired pulse facilitation in the sciatic nerve of the frog was found. Valgardson s short story, The Novice, shows a sailor reflecting on his life, and his fate, as he and what s left of his crew wade in Alberta s Lake Narrows, waiting for sunrise. In WD Valgardson s, The Novice the reader should come to the realization that idealism may be dangerous when it skews the truth, but that it is ultimately necessary in the face of misfortune, so one may maintain hope in the face of challenging obstacles. • 13. The State Of Michig A Fascinating Area The state of Michigan is a fascinating area. From its mitten like shape, to its historical background, to the presence of the Great Lakes, Michigan has a story unlike any others. One very important part of Michigan s story is how water has shaped the land making up the state. Seeing as the Great Lakes surround Michigan, it is obvious that the hydrologic system plays a great role in the water supply and the ecosystem of the Great Lakes. The hydrologic cycle includes evaporation, condensation, precipitation, groundwater, transpiration and runoff, all of which keep the Great Lakes functioning year after year. The University Corporation of Atmospheric Research developed an image to simply explain the hydrologic cycle as well as graphs explaining how each of the elements of the hydrologic cycle affects The Great Lakes on a monthly basis (located below). The hydrologic cycle keeps the Great Lakes up and running. Without it, Michigan would not have the inhabitants it does today. The abundant supply of water allows a vast array of wildlife to live in Michigan, and made it a desirable place for early settlers to inhabit. However, the Great Lakes did not just appear out of thin air. There is a long history of how the Great Lakes came to be. The long history of the formation of the Great Lakes and Michigan start with the impact of glaciers. Throughout history, there have been four major periods where glaciers moved across Michigan, shaping and forming the land. Every time a glacier ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is said the narrative style and even the events in both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings were influenced by The Black Douglas (Lobdell, Jared C.). It s important to deal with these conflicts that are presented to the individual during the stages, because if they are not taking care of the individual will end up struggling with them later on in life. Erikson is known as an ego psychologist focusing on culture and society and the conflicts that can take place with someone s ego (McLeod, S). Regarding this, Philip Hendy wrote in one article for Encyclopedia Britannica, Giovanni Bellini, (born c. 1430, Venice [Italy] died 1516, Venice), Italian painter who, in his work, reflects the increasing interest of the Venetian artistic milieu in the stylistic innovations and concerns of the Renaissance(Hendy). Four hundred years prior to Impressionism, the Venetian painters were keenly interested in the relationship between light and color . . . Additionally, the Venetian painters had a distinct method of brushwork. It s rather smooth, and makes for a velvety surface texture (Esaak). In other words, Venetian Renaissance art tends to have contrasting relationships between lighting and color in order to create a certain mood or emphasize a certain detail, and that the colors faded into each other, thus creating smooth transitions with almost outlines around shapes. In Giovanni Bellini s Crucifixion, the sunlight is particularly shined on Jesus, which is juxtaposed by the green grass below him. Plus, the colors smoothly transition to each other, thus leaving any shape outlines almost invisible. Furthermore, the natural world was a prevalent theme in not just Venetian Renaissance art, but the Renaissance as a whole. Summary Cost of Capital The Cost of Capital 1 Background As investors desire to obtain the best/highest return on their investments in securities such as shares (Equity) and loans to companies such as debentures (Debt), these returns are costs to the companies paying these Dividends (on equity) and Interest (on Debts)! Similarly audio and video steganography are less used method for their large size and complex algorithm for compression and coding. Again in protocol steganography, messages are inserted in network layer. Which may result in increasing the network congestion.
