women from different places across the world who took a stand for lesbian rights. These ladies
include: Zohl de Ishtar (Australia), Haya Shalom (Israel), Izabela Jaruga (Poland), Lo Sai Rose
Wu (China, Hong Kong), and Chuen Juei Ho (China, Taiwan). The first peace womanI want to talk
about is Zohl de Ishtar. Zohl is an Australian lesbian who helps women in Australia on projects in
communities and even world wide (PeaceWomen Across the Globe). By working on the
international level she is able to work with a diverse number of people. She has worked to
eliminate nuclear weapons and militarism, campaigned to improve the rights of all peoples,
defended cultural integrity and strived to end any form of discrimination, with an emphasis on

For the Nitrogen Cycle Lab, I, along with four other classmates, designed and created a self
sustaining nitrogen cycle. One factor that helped us create a successful self sustaining nitrogen
cycle was we elevated each tank by placing foam blocks under them. This increased the speed of
the water flow. Another good factor we included was we used tape to help loop the tubes to
connect two tanks together. The tape also prevented any tubes from shooting water upwards and
out of the tank. Although our water flow was successful in the end, we had multiple errors before

On October 30th, we had our sixth presentation of this course. We are getting close to the end of
the course with two lectures left. The lecturer, this time, was Goucher s computer music professor
Samuel Burt, with Lisa Weiss helping him. According to his bio, among his title as a professor,
Samuel Burt is a composer. He had a Bachelors of Musicfrom the University of Georgia. Then, he
received a Master of Music from Peabody Institute for composition and computer music. He is a
member of the High Zero Foundation and has participated in the High Zero Festival. This
foundation is a way of showcasing experimental and improvised music in Baltimore. He
participated and performed in the Red Room series and the Worlds in Collusion at Artscape. To
add to his repertoire, he builds and sells daxophones, which are wooden friction based

and unique structure are also attributed to many distinctive instruments found in Dr. Seuss
stories. We decided to have two mouthpieces available, so two people can play the instrument at
the same time and the overall structure characterizes the disproportionate instruments seen in
the books. Going with the theme, the sound created is also very interesting. When assembling
the instrument, we had stuck wax paper between the parts of the pipe, creating a kazoo like
sound. We had chosen to use PVC pipes in order to lock in the sound, leaving no air to escape,
and funnels in order to amplify the sound being given off. Before our final design, there had
happened to be another idea we were going for. The design had included a chamber that would
contain soft air gun pellets or bb gun pellets that were capped off by 3D printed discs, covering

I was the oldest in the group and the upper classmen. I had the original idea for the project and
everyone contributed to making the original idea come to life. Everyone had an input on creating

Melba Pattillo and eight other African American students became soldiers on the battlefield of
equality at a young age. When entering Central High School, Melba had to become a warrior in
order to survive the school year. She had to be a warrior to fight for what she believed in and not
give up. Melba created a warrior inside herself to rise above the pressure and scrutiny from her
peers, community, and nation. She was a warrior of civil justice and equality for the future
generations of kids who only wanted a fair chance. Melba s mother told her, there s a price to be
paid for freedom; we pay it now or we re in ball and chain forever. (Pattillo. 104) To survive the
school year, Melba had to acquire various weapons to fight against the segregationists who
surrounded her. Those weapons included her words, her diary, her presence and her faith. After
Minnijean was expelled Melba s fellow students became more vicious trying to get the others
expelled also. One day Melba got eggs dumped on her head. Later when her grandmother helped
her get the egg out of her hair she told Melba, You could take charge of these mind games, you
