This document discusses values in research during challenging times. It presents an appreciative inquiry approach using a 5D cycle of definition, discovery, dream, design, and delivery. The research focuses on TeachMeet, a professional learning event, using mixed methods including qualitative and quantitative approaches. It examines the characteristics and evolution of TeachMeet, what motivates participants, and how TeachMeet fits into professional learning landscapes. Data analysis uses interpretive phenomenological analysis to examine personal lived experiences. The document raises questions about pivoting research focus due to unexpected global challenges and surfacing valued elements of face-to-face events in online spaces.

definition > discovery >
dream > design > deliver
one Q to rule them all:
what works,
for whom,
and in what circumstances?
Research Focus: TEACHMEET [est. 2006]
Methods - mixed, pragmatic, QUAL+quant
1 What are the characteristics of TeachMeet
and how have these evolved since its
inception? > ‘thick description’ (Denzin 1989)
2 What motivates TeachMeet organisers and
participants to engage with the phenomenon?
3 Where is TeachMeet situated in the context
of participants’ professional learning
landscape?
4 What is the relationship between evolution,
impact and sustainability in the context of
TeachMeet?

3. drive forward carefully, keep checking the ‘rear view mirror’ - are my values still enacted in my research?
relationship > trust, empathy, intuition, freedom
science > tree of life, environment, laws of nature
joy > flow, irreverence, contentment, love
memory > individual, shared, collective, symbolic connections
equality > openness, fairness, justice, dignity, respect
¿ what to do when the focus of research gets pivoted by an unexpected global challenge in mid research ?
4. “in the room where it happens” “in the the ‘zoom’ where it happens”
