2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2. Lebron And The Cleveland Cavaliers Case Study
LeBron James had a big decision to make on the night of July 8, 2010. He had been drafted in 2003 by
the Cleveland Cavaliers as the first player in the first round of the draft, a huge accomplishment for a
player straight out of highschool (St. Vincent St. Mary High School). However, after 7 years with the
Cavs and no NBA Championships to show for, LeBron had two choices; to sign with another NBA
team in hopes of attaining a championship there, or stay with the Cavaliers and build a team. LeBron
chose to sign with the Miami Heat. Many all over the world tuned in to watch this huge moment.
There were many conditions surrounding his decision. LeBron had played for the Cleveland Cavaliers
for seven years prior. In these seven years, the Cavaliers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many have said that it is very ironic. In addition, the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Dan Gilbert,
wrote a blistering article on the Cavaliers website towards LeBron moving to the Miami heat, he typed
James s decision a cowardly betrayal and a shameful display of selfishness by one of our own. Gilbert
also guaranteed Cleveland will win an NBA title before, quote, the self titled king wins one (Morning
Edition 9, 40 42) This was very influential in setting the tone towards LeBron for many Clevelanders.
This is because Gilbert is a very high up and influential person in the Cavaliers organization.
However, most basketball enthusiasts were not suprised by LeBron s move. Along with the greater
chance at a NBA Championship, LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwayne Wade all structured their
contracts so that in 2006, they would all be free agents and possibly all join the same team in seek of a
championship (Morning Edition 9,

3. Driverless Cars In The Future
In the United States, driver error is the primary factor to blame for automobile deaths. According to
the National Safety Council, in 2015, over thirty eight thousand people died in car crashes. On
average, that is 194 people killed a day. It is unacceptable to lose so many lives each year to this
tragedy. Unfortunately, society has accepted this as the price of convenient transportation. However,
there is an alternative. In recent years, the feasibility of affordable driverless cars is becoming a
reality. The pace of current progress points to a future where driverless cars will replace humans at the
wheel. Corporations like Google and Tesla are road testing autonomous vehicles. Google s driverless
cars have completed over 2 million miles of autonomous driving on California roads. Tesla s vehicles

Using computers to drive us around is a logical next step to take as the technology matures. As the

eliminated as computers can take over for intoxicated humans. Elderly people will be able to move
about as they please, without special assistance. As these systems become more advanced, and
reliable, productivity will increase as less time is spent in traffic jams. According to USA Today,
deaths from car accidents cost society nearly 900 billion a year. As driverless cars become more
affordable, and better drivers then humans, the annual cost to society will decrease. As the lives saved
by this technology will save millions of dollars in medical treatment, and keep healthy people out of

In the United States, there are many support groups and programs available to individuals seeking
recovery from hardships, addictions, or struggles. Members with similar experiences meet together to

Dturing English 122, I adapted several writing instruments that evolved into a process, in turn, I used
this to compose my first and final drafts of my narrative and persuasive essays. Originating the term, I
had a fear and deep resentment for writing; however, in week three, I finally attained a point where I
began to enjoy the writing process. When I look back over the last eight weeks, I use three things that
improved my writing, specifically, a process style chart, transitional phrases, and the proper way of
revising my assignment for this course that improved my writing and will benefit future classes. First,
process style chart (MindEdge 5.01), profoundly improved the speed, organization, and quality of my
composition. I merely transferred the process of module five, Refining the Order of Your Ideas (#2
MindEdge 5.01), to index cards; thus, allowing reorganization or removal of topics, subtopics, and
details by simply moving an index card. Exerted from My Experiences With Writing , Then, I noticed

7. Similarities Between The Great Gatsby And Tom Buchanan
Nick Carraway and Tom Buchanan had some similarities and differences . They are both liars, they lie
about many things. Gatsby lied about who he really is and Tom lies to get out of things. They both are
living a fake life, a double life. Gatsby was pretending he came from a wealthy family when in reality
his family is dirt poor. Tom was having an affair with another woman who does not come from the
same social class as him and had an apartment with her in New York. The apartment was a place
where they both can get away from their other life. Although, they both are very wealthy and had a lot
of money, they come from different social class. Tom was born rich so he did not work for his money
and Gatsby was really poor, but he worked for his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gatsby met Daisy before she even knew Tom, but because he was poor he could not have her. He was
gone for five years yet he still loved her and was still loyal to her. He bought a house right across the
bay from Daisy s house and threw so many big parties because he was hoping it would catch her
attention. Once in awhile I go off on a spree and make a fool of myself, but I always come back, and
in my heart I love her all the time. (Fitzgerald 131) Tom admitted that he toys with a lot of women, but
at the end of the day he always comes back to Daisy. I think the reason why Tom cheated on Daisy
because he wanted to to feel needed. Daisy never really wanted to marry Tom and was not interested
in him. She did marry him because he had money, but Daisy was also very wealthy, so she did not
need him or his money to make her happy. She will do just fine on her own if she left him. Maybe he
just wanted someone to need him and make him feel wanted so that is why he cheated on her. Myrtle
was poor trying to be in the wealthy class and being with Tom lets her feel like she is apart of the
wealthy class because whatever she wants, Tom gets it for her. One example, is the dog. I want to get
one of those dogs, she said earnestly. I want to get one for the apartment. They are nice to have a dog. (
Fitzgerald 27 ) Myrtle wanted a dog for the apartment and Tom bought it for her without even
questioning it. She did not even know how to properly take care of it. She just wanted the dog just so
she can spend Tom s money. Although it may not seem like Tom actually loved Daisy. When he found
out that Daisy was going to Gatsby s parties, he followed her to Gatsby s to keep an eye on her. He

COMMERCIALIZATION OF ORGAN TRANSPLANTS
Arguments in favor of organ commercialization
Commercialization of human organs from consenting adults will lead to an increase in the supply of
organs needed for transplants (Kanniyakonil, 2005). The major challenge in hospitals is the lack of
organs needed for transplantation to the increasing number of patients. Currently, organs are only
accepted from victims of altruism suicide and this does not cover the medical needs throughout the
world. Thus, by commercializing organs for transplants, the number of organ will ... Show more

Commercialization of organs will also lead to degradation in the medical ethics. Patients who are
incapable financially may not be given the same medical care quality as people with money. Medical
incompatibility is another reason why commercialization of human organs is not advisable. Family
members are advised to donate due to enhanced chance of molecular compatibility. However, if
organs are sold over the counter unknowing public may buy the organs without the knowledge of the
required medical compatibility. Thus, their loved ones may develop serious medical complications or
even die as a result of the transplant.
My position on the debate
My position on the debate of commercialization of organ transplants is that it should not be allowed.
This, however, does not mean that people are not participating in the practice. Commercialization of
organ transplant is a lucrative business. However, this is morally wrong and is against human ethics.
This is due to the fact that commercialization of human organs even if it results in saving lives has a
bigger negative impact on the society and on the individual. The major moral problem is that people
donating will be under the obligation of benefiting. Like is said earlier, in places where organ
commercialization is being practice, the business is very lucrative. The need to benefit from the organ
donations violates the ethics that are aligned with human

Each of these four films is dealing with very complex and uniquely feminine challenges in the modern
world. The screenplays were very compelling, probably the most compelling I have personally
watched. The layering of the female characters was put forth in a way where their struggles and
obstacles did not necessarily make them weak. Although many of their struggles and challenges were
uniquely associated to their gender, the portrayal of their sagas and interactions with one another as
women were not uninteresting or unworthy of the greatest appreciation of character development by
the writers. These were strong and interesting characters, which just happened to be women dealing
with distinctly difficult challenges. The filmmakers did a superb ... Show more content on

Filmmakers and the writers had the most challenging task with that of this character because it was
intertwined with that of a historical figure who was troubled herself but very famous for her literary
ability and accomplishments. Laura is reading the work of Virginia Woolf, and is immersed in her own
life, which is very structured regimented, and comes with enormous societal standards and
expectations. It is this structure and rigidity that imprisons Laura. The unhappiness of Laura is
something that leads her to seek solace and emotional vitality in the work of Woolf and her novel Mrs.
Dalloway. This is what makes the story very unique, because it is layering the experiences of several
different women into one, and they each interact with each other without knowing it. Virginia Woolf
has created Mrs. Dalloway. Laura is engaging into the life of Mrs. Dalloway as a respite from her own
personal life. And the character of Dalloway is confronted with her own problems, which has themes
that resonate with both women. The complicated method of portraying this in the story and film is
effective, as there are scenes that show three days of three different years, bookmarked by the tragedy
of Mrs. Woolf s suicide. The way that the filmmakers showed this was very good, mainly because it
was not confusing or boring which is

The cool autumn wind gusted through as the travelers continued their journey. The weary wanderers

I volunteer to tell a tale while we rest. I will tell a tale; a tale of adventure, bravery and unity, so sit

A long time ago in a far away land there was a forest named The Oaklands. The Oaklands were large

Foxes, I am Clare, daughter of the Leader Maddox Vulpes. I have come here to announce that we
should move back to the Willowlands. Other creatures think of us as tricksters, sly dishonest creatures.
We have to prove them wrong!
It was silent. Until the wolf, Alpha, clapped, and suddenly all the other foxes clapped as well, excited
to take back their rightful place. The foxes were prepped for battle. They wore armor to protect them,
and had brave hearts ready for battle. They started their march into the WIllowlands, and when they
finally reached their destination; they stood brave in the face of danger.
Creatures gathered around them, and Clare proved to them the truth of the Emperor Turtle. Emperor
Turtle was sent to be judged by the Order, and the animals took foxes in as beloved allies. The moral

13. How Does the Scarlet Letter Comment on Religion in...
Religion is the name given to a relationship with God, and different groups of people have different
Gods and belief systems (Terhart Schulze, 2008). Today there are 313 religions and denominations in
the United States; from monotheists who believe in one God, to polytheists who believe in many
Gods, to others who believe in no God, or a God as represented by animal spirits, alien groups, or
psychoactive substances (ProCon.org, 2008). Christianity was the first religion that was brought to the
world by European settlers and it became dominant religion of the United States throughout its
history. Although Puritan practices was accepted under the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, both James I

Therefore this essay will describe how the characters, setting and themes in the Scarlet letter comment
on the religion in America by exploring the scene of puritan morality, scaffold and through the
interpretation of the Scarlet Letter A .
According Puritan moral values, one is guilty of adultery if married man or woman had a sexual
relationship with a person who is not their wife or husband. The situation becomes worse when
women bear an illegitimate child and such behavior is considered as one of the sinful acts in the
Puritan society. The protagonist and the bearer of the scarlet letter A signify that Hester Prynne is an
adulterer. Hester was married to an elderly scholar, Roger Chillingworth who sent her ahead to
America to live but never followed her. While waiting for him, she had an affair with a Puritan
minister named Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale, after which gave birth to Pearl. Hester giving birth to
Pearl became an attention of that Puritan society and she was humiliated in the public where she
showed her faults to the world without revealing the names of Pearl s father. Mr. Wilson said, Speak
out the name! That, and thy repentance, may avail to take the scarlet letter off thy breast. Never!
replied Hester Prynne. It is too deeply branded. Ye cannot take it off. And would that I might endure
his agony, as well as mine! (Hawthorne, p 58). Unwillingness to reveal the name of Pearl s father by
Hester shows the strength and

One need not be deeply religious or oppose abortion to be troubled by the prospect of a society in

the government, court systems, activists, and public media is starting to take notice. Being able to pick

In a lot of the winters and summers growing up I would walk down the same path through the
northern woods down to the lake. In the summer it was gorgeous, the trees are in full bloom and you
can hear the leaves rustling in the wind and crunching under your feet. Walking down that path was
always my favorite in the winter though, all the trees are bare and every branch has snow and ice on it
and it seems like you can just see through the woods forever because there s nothing blocking the
view. Once you get down to the lake and walk out onto the dock it s such a gorgeous view. The ice
frozen over, the trees surrounding covered in snow, all the other houses and docks. Visiting my
grandparents is one of my favorite memories growing up. I loved going to see my grandparents
because everything was just so different from where I lived, and they will always be some of my
favorite people to see. I would always stay in the same little guest bedroom that they had and my
grandma would always try and set up the tv for me in their every time. My grandparents liked birds,
they even have a clock in their kitchen that has a different bird for every hour. I never really found
birds interesting but when I would sit at their kitchen table and look out the big window that
overlooked part of their yard, suddenly I was interested just like them. I would watch the
hummingbirds come up to the window and drink the juice that my grandma put in a feeder for them,

The way Dante describes Satan makes the theme even more noticeable, especially when the way he
describes his version of Satan is contrasted with other images of Satan. The Satan of Milton s Paradise
Lost, for example, still has some of the rule and beauty he had when he was the most dominant and
attractive of all the angels. He was energetic, was able to make influential speeches in hell, and able to
leave Hell to lure Eve. His speechmaking has even influenced some future readers that there is
something honorable about his decision to rebel against God: Better to reign in Hell than serve in
Heaven, he says (Lines 258 263

18. Rhetorical Modes Of Pathos In Ursula Le Guin
One can unknowingly suffer for the sake of society s convenience. Both authors, Ray
Bradbury and Ursula Le Guin, demonstrate the suffering that the protagonist endures in order to serve
their society. A variety of rhetorical strategies and modes contribute to the overall role of the
protagonists. Ray Bradbury uses personification and the rhetorical mode of pathos to convey the
oblivious suffering that the protagonist, the smart house , undergoes. Ursula Le Guin utilizes diction
and the rhetorical mode of pathos to demonstrate the society s dependency on the life of a young,
hopeless boy. Through the authors use of diction, personification, and the rhetorical mode of pathos,
readers can view both short stories in a new criticism lense and juxtapose two societies that feature a
suffering aspect in each story.
In Ray Bradbury s short story, August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains , the protagonist is the only
house left standing in Allendale, California after a nuclear explosion.
However, the protagonist is not an average house. The house is technologically programmed to carry
out all of the tasks and duties of an ordinary family. Although the family that lived in the house before
the explosion are no longer present, the house carries out its scheduled routine. At the beginning of the
story, Bradbury explains that memory tapes glided and chimed out the passing time while no doors
slammed, no carpets took the soft tread of rubber heels . The house has become abandoned, yet, it
continues to exercise its daily functions. Ray Bradbury also gives
Robinson 2 life to the house in a way that it seems to be a human. The weather box on the front door
sang quietly: rain, rain, go away; rubbers, raincoats for today... is a prime example of the way
Bradbury brings life to the empty house. Another example of personification that Bradbury uses in his
short story is, It quivered at each sound, the house did. If a sparrow brushed a window, the shade
snapped up. The house seems to have a mind of its own. In August 2026: There Will
Come Soft Rains, the house continues to function even though the family and residents of the town
has suffered from the nuclear explosion. In Ray Bradbury s August 2026: There Will

Cajun American Culinary History
Cajun food comes from the deepest Southern parts of Louisiana and Mississippi. Like the area it
originated from, Cajun flavor is spicy, rich, and really, really good! A lot of people don t know that the
typical Cajun food was developed by extremely poor people. Refugees and farmers used what they
had to feed large families. If you ask a resident of the area, you will find out that Louisiana Creole
originated with the settling of European immigrants around 1690. These folks brought with them the
influences of European traditions including their cuisine.
Most were upper class aristocracy, so Creole today is seen as a classier, fine cuisine while Cajun is
more of a common cuisine. The main difference is that Cajun cuisine uses wild vegetables and game

This is still evidenced today in the Creole cooking we enjoy. As a lot of these people were probably
second sons with no hopes of inheriting land or holdings at home in Europe, they arrived here to
search out their fortunes. Many of these immigrants were French. The classic French dish named
Bouillabaisse is a tribute to that heritage.
In reality, Louisiana Creole cuisine is a mixture of several different and varied cultures. Soon after the
immigrants arrived in the area, native Indians introduced the use of local grown vegetables like corn,
ground sassafras and bay leaves. Tomatoes from Central and South America were also introduced. As
these ingredients began to see utilization, the Creole cuisine we know today started to take shape.
The Creoles that settled in the Louisiana area enjoyed a fairly rich lifestyle. A few years later, the
influx of African slaves brought okra seeds into the culture. Okra was added to some dishes, especially
soups, and since the African word for okra is gumbo , that is what we called the signature dish of

20. Social Media And Its Impact On New Media
The widespread use of social media and the resulting transition to a system dependent on new media
has fundamentally changed the ways in which we communicate. One significant aspect of
communication that has been drastically altered is the news media and their presence on social media
sites such as Twitter primarily as a result of our changing interactions with and procurement of the
news. Over the course of the last semester, I worked as an Assistant Producer for both Unify and
Activism Media, which are sister companies. One of the most significant experiences I had during my
internship was in my work as a journalist for Activism Media. I was assigned to cover the public s
responses to the death of Michael Brown and the subsequent protests following the failure to indict
both Darren Wilson and Daniel Pantaleo (also known as the Shut it Down protests). My experiences
during this assignment illustrated a number of theoretical concepts in the media studies field chiefly:
citizen journalism, agenda setting, and framing. The creation of the printing press and news media
significantly altered the world s ability to communicate. Many scholars have argued that with the
printing press came a transformation of the public sphere and the public s ability to discuss and
identify societal issues. Jürgen Habermas, a German sociologist and philosopher, posits that early
modern capitalism created conditions for this bourgeois public sphere to emerge. Numerous
conditions permitted

23. Communication And Its Effects On Employees s Perceptions...
Introduction
Communication and its effects on employee s perceptions towards organizational changes have been
extensively studied. Communication, if poorly managed, can lead to negative consequences including
employee s frustration, uncertainty, change contempt (Frahm Brown (2007), Bordia, Hunt, Paulsen
(2004)), psychological strain, low job satisfaction, and increase in turnover intention (Bordia, Hunt,
Paulsen (2004)). If effectively managed, communication can result in multiple positive effects such as
employee s positive perception towards change process, change acceptance (Frahm Brown (2007)),
perception of justice within the organization (Nese (2014)), and change based momentum (Jansen
(2004)). In this paper, I would like to explore how two communication approaches programmatic and
participatory can be used to improve employee s positive perceptions towards organizational changes.
The paper is divided into three sections. It starts with a summary of employee s perceptions towards
organizational changes. The effects of communication on employee s perceptions towards
organizational changes will follow. The last section is a comparison of the strengths and weaknesses
of programmatic and participatory approaches through the analysis of empirical studies.

during the chaotic Nigerian Civil War in 1967 1970. For us to have more deep understanding of this

Okeke, Nnaemeka s father, opposes their marriage because their traditional way of marriage is the

the same tongue as he/she. And according to Okeke, marriage is not all about love. What matters is the
one who Nnaemeka will marry should have a good character and a Christian background like Ugoye
which Okeke wants for his son. And this provokes the anger of Okeke. Okeke does not really like
Nene, especially when he heard from his son that Nene is a Christian but a teacher in a Girls School in
Lagos because it is opposing to his Christian belief which St. Paul says in the Bible that women
should not teach and should keep silence only. But saying these does not stop Nnaemeka from
marrying Nene because for him, you marry a person because of love. We could already see here in this
part of the story the clash between two generations; the old and the young or new. Achebe shows that
there are always conflicts between the old and young/new generations. Okeke is the representation of
the old generation of Nigeria who preserves the old or native traditions of his country while
Nnaemeke and Nene are the representation of the young/new generation who are greatly driven and

ages ahead of their time, another selling point to tell to your customer. Sir, oh sir, those slacks look

Of course this probably is not true, but with a name like Structure, anything is possible.

32. Aspects Of Current Kikuyu Culture
Aspects of current Kikuyu culture were molded by modern demands impressed upon them by British
colonization. British colonists brought western ideas about living standards and health care, as well as
projecting British ideals of family life upon the Kikuyu people. In the 1950 s, as a reaction to this
imposition of western beliefs and practices upon the people of Kenya, the Mau Mau began to fight the
existing British infrastructure. This uprising was a final divide in the Kikuyu tribe based on the
members desire to either adapt to modern customs or continue to try to live with their old culture. In
many ways, British colonization continues to have a lasting and substantial cultural impact on the
Kikuyu today.
To comprehend the effect that British colonization had on the Kikuyu people, first we have to examine
the pre colonial Kikuyu society. The ancestors of the Kikuyu participated in the Bantu expansion, a
millennia long phenomenon during which Bantu speaking peoples migrated from Western Africa to
various regions in Southern and Eastern Africa (The Bantu Migrations). Prior to European
intervention, the structure of Kikuyu society was relatively egalitarian. The people of the Kikuyu did
not practice slavery, and made no attempts to garner prisoners from neighboring tribes or villages. The
political structure of the Kikuyu tribe was divided among nine separate clans. These clans were all
related along maternal lines, and oftentimes lived in very close proximity to one

33. Essay On The Puritans
The puritans were a religious group made up of people who wanted to purify, the Church of England.
The puritans were activist that wanted to get rid of the catholic system within the church. However,
people in England sought out to remove these groups of people from the area because they saw them
as a threat to their religion. This is how the puritans ended up in Massachusetts Bay Colony. The
puritans moved to this colony in hopes of recreating and ideal community, a utopian society that
others could look up to. The puritans ideal community consisted of peace and partnership; they
wanted to remove all evil and improve the quality of life. The puritans then became strict to ensure
that every person was equivalent in the eyes of God. I think the religion puritans created casted a fear
in other people especially in England because they are so used to being ruled under one king. The ...

The Puritans viewed religious and civil affairs at the same level. They did not separate the two. Even
though the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment stated that church and state were separate,
the Puritans held them close together. The Puritans strict beliefs influenced politics during this time
period. In the early stages of the puritans journey to purification, they opened a new church and slowly
they were evolving into their own beliefs. The puritans wanted to break away from the norms, and
expectations of Christian society. I believed that the puritans had the idea that by creating a new
church, they could essentially purify their life, along with others, and the way the church ruled. The
spiritual belief of the puritans was so strong that it influenced communities, laws and customs. In the
ideal world for the puritans, God is above all. The puritans, I think, wanted to remove the idea of
having a ruler, or dictatorship in control of the people, and their

Monroe did not let her background and struggles stop her from reaching her goals. Marilyn overcame
many struggles in her lifetime and still did not let her struggles get in the way from reaching her goals.
She was an independent woman taking advantage of the opportunities that afforded her in the movie
making business. There was never an opportunity that slipped through Marilyn s fingers, she took
advantage of every opportunity that came her way and it led her to be the successful woman who in
the blink of an eye became the most iconic sex symbol in the United States. Lastly, she let her natural
abilities and looks shine through as an example to women during this time and still today. Marilyn

36. Nosferatu And Dracula Film Analysis
In his Great Movies list, Roger Ebert called Nosferatu (1922) the account of Dracula before it was
covered alive in platitudes, jokes, TV dramas, kid s shows and more than 30 different films. The film
is in amazement of its material. It appears to truly have faith in vampires but today some vampire
films are completely different from older films like Nosfesatu and Dracula.
Current vampires are completely unique. The film business utilizes them as centralizations of sex and
gut, a social move as of late characterized by the Twilight films and True Blood (2008) which pushed
a restless, present day picture on an ages old develop. Before vampires turned into a prop everybody
needs to engage in sexual relations with, they were occupants of nightmarish situations established
upon the openings of the human mind. They have turned into the perfect inverse of their source where
Nosferatu s Count Orlok originated from Victorian estimations of sexual suppression and filled in as a
predatorial similitude of sexual peril, present day vampires are the photo of vulgar want wherein
giving one s own particular substance to sustain their inclinations is a demonstration of unequivocal
erotica.
Nosferatu isn t frightfulness in the cutting edge sense. It esteems dreadfulness over alarm, fabricating
an environment of fear instead of sudden snapshots of stun. In the design of German Expressionism,
the film depends on misshaped style, unusual sets and areas, overwhelming cosmetics and

38. Julius Caesar Summary
The Roman Senate house was empty. All but one of numerous candles had been blown out, and sitting
by this candle, was the Dictator of Rome, Julius Caesar. Caesar was sitting in his chair of solid marble
when the doors burst open, and there stood two figures hidden by the darkness of midnight. One of the
figures noticeably raised an arm, and for a moment, the world stood still. The figure s hand slightly
moved when suddenly a snap echoed through the room. Consequently, fifty eight men sprinted in and
stood by Caesar s side. The two figures who stood in the door began to march forward with a skip in
their step. As they neared closer to the candle light, Caesar undoubtedly began to recognize some
features of their faces, but could not pinpoint ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The guards were as still as a brick wall, not allowing Brutus to escape. You will tell Caesar about me

kill him, but the moment he second guessed her was his most tragic mistake. When he let down his
guard, the woman slammed her dagger into Brutus leg. He then continued to bleed out, screaming in
agony. The woman and the guards took one last look at Brutus before leaving the tomb. The New
Emperor, Marcus Junius Brutus, was dead. Along with his death, was the death of his Empire, an
Empire that lasted only lasted three short days. Within a week, all deconstruction of the Temple of

39. Book Report On A Well Paid Slave
Book Research Project: A Well Paid Slave
PEP 548 Financing Sport
Breeanna P. Munoz
University of New Mexico
For this book review, I decided to read A Well Payed Slave. This book describes the controversial
journey of Curt Flood, a former Major League Baseball player and his fight to end the reserve clause
in professional baseball while also endorsing the idea of free agency in the league. Prior to taking this
class, I was unaware of the reserve clause, Curt Flood, or how free agency came along; I had always
assumed free agency had always been a part of professional sports. Curt sought after the freedom of
employment in business of his own choice, and when such American right was denied he took a stand
for not only himself but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The claim was that Major League Baseball could not operate with both interstate and intrastate
commerce. If considered interstate commerce, MLB s reserve clause would be a violation of the
Sherman Antitrust Act (1890), which deemed every contract, combination...or conspiracy illegal that
restrained trade or commerce among the several states. The goal was to ban monopolistic practices
that prevented competition (p. 20). In the 1922 court case Federal Baseball Club of Baltimore, Inc v.
National League of Professional Baseball Clubs, MLB and its operational functions were found to be
considered intrastate commerce. This verdict established Major League Baseball s legal monopoly,
which is today known as baseball s antitrust exemption. After a long hard fought battle with the MLB,
the Supreme Court ultimately ruled against Flood.
Although Curt Flood lost his fight for free agency, it was not considered a total loss due to the
development of the 10 and 5 rule. The 10 and 5 rule, is any player with 10 years of major league
service and 5 years with the same team could not be traded without his consent. The 10 and 5 rule
would have prevented Flood s trade and is often referred to as the Curt Flood Rule. (p. 314).
Unfortunately, Flood did not get to see his dream come true because it wasn t till after his passing did
the Curt Flood Act of 1998 come to life allowing free
