Personality Test Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Personality Test" can be a multifaceted and challenging task. It
requires a comprehensive understanding of psychology, human behavior, and the intricacies of
various personality assessment tools. The difficulty lies not only in presenting factual information
but also in interpreting the results and weaving them into a coherent narrative.
Firstly, delving into the realm of personality tests necessitates a thorough exploration of different
psychological theories and models. Understanding concepts such as the Big Five personality
traits, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), or other assessment methods is crucial. Analyzing
the history and evolution of personality testing adds another layer of complexity to the essay.
Furthermore, the challenge lies in providing a balanced perspective. While discussing the merits
of personality tests, one must also address criticisms and controversies surrounding their
accuracy and reliability. This requires the writer to navigate through diverse opinions, research
findings, and debates within the field of psychology.
The essay should not merely regurgitate information but should engage the reader with insightful
analysis. This involves connecting the theoretical concepts with real-world applications,
demonstrating an understanding of how personality tests are utilized in various contexts, such as
employment, relationships, or personal development.
Additionally, weaving a cohesive narrative requires adept writing skills. Transitioning smoothly
between different sections, maintaining a logical flow, and ensuring clarity of expression are

My Love Story
I loved Bob with all my heart, or as much as you could love someone in 1252 in
England as a female. I have told you about Bob before, haven t I? He knew
everything about me from my favorite color to my deepest secrets. We did
everything together, too; we went to the pond together, we went to the market
together, we even ate together. We always exchanged I love you whenever we saw
each other, and everyone thought we would eventually get married. He cared
about me, and I cared about him. We were the perfect love story. Of course, all
perfect stories must come to an end. It was a warm autumn day. The sun was
shining, the leaves on the trees were brilliant reds, oranges, and golds, and
everyone was out taking care of business on our measly dirt road. Bob and I had
spent the day cleaning his home and taking care of his younger sisters, so we were
both burning up. As we left his house, I had a brilliant idea. Bob darling, let us go
to the pond. We can cool off there! The pond was a beautiful, tranquil place. The
only sounds that could be heard were the breeze rustling the weeping willows
beside the pond and the birds chirping in the willows. The pale, calm blue of the
pond had helped me fall asleep a number of times. It was a wonderful place to cool
off and swim, too. Bob however, instead of getting excited as he had on multiple
occasions at any mention of the pond jumped away from me, guilt written on his
face. I can t, I...I... Bob? Are you alright? I asked, concerned. Of course. I just can t
come to the pond today, he responded, his composure regained. I...uh...I have other
plans. I m sorry. Oh. Alright then. It s okay. He smiled at me, and I smiled back,
although it was a little forced. Then, he turned around and disappeared into the
bustle of the market. As I watched him walk away, my smile faded. What was
wrong with him? Or is it me? He always hung out with me, even if he had previous
arrangements. This continued for days; I would want to do something together, but
Bob would have other engagements. Soon, we were doing nothing. I quickly grew
suspicious. What could he possibly be doing? Eventually, I decided to follow him to
his other engagements . It was a
Evaluating The Size Of Tablets Essay
DESIGN:
There are many designs which can apply on our trolley but we need to check first
then we can apply that design because there are many little things which we have to
analyze first these things are as follow:
SIZE OF TABLETS: We should aware regarding size of tablets because there are
many sizes of tablets and there are different categories regarding size like 6 to 8.3
inches tablets come under small sizes. 8.9 to 10.1 inches size tablets come under
medium and over 10.1 inches come under large size tablets. It means we need a
space over 10.1 inches but we have to maintain size.
STAND FOR TABLET: We will create a different stand for tablets which will be
adjustable regarding sizes of tablets. If customers have large size tablet then they
do not need to adjust stand but if they have medium or small size tablets then they
can adjust size of stand according to size of their tablets. Every customer has
different size of tablets that s why we have to fit adjustable stand for the facility of
customers. We need to provide good quality stand which can provide easy access to
our customers because customers always aspects good services from the supermarket.
So we should be careful regarding stand.

Placed just 20 minutes to the northwest of Boston, the complex is conveniently
close to I 90W. Within the Larchwood neighborhood of Cambridge, residents can
find beautiful, tree lined streets. Originally set up as a residential subdivision in
1915, it still retains its winding roads and lush landscaping. Known as one of
Cambridge s prettiest neighborhoods, this area is placed between Huron Avenue,
Brattle Street and Fresh Pond Parkway. Long ago, this neighborhood was once the
home of William Gray s summer state. When the wealthy merchant passed away,
his 38 acre property passed on to his family members. It was later subdivided in
1915, but the original house can still be viewed on Larch Road. To create a
beautiful, lush neighborhood, the subdivision hired landscape architect Henry
Hubbard. Hubbard had previously studied under Frederick Law Olmsted before he
designed Larchwood s landscape. Because of its historic past, the biggest
architectural style in the neighborhood is Georgian Revival. Other architectural styles
like Modernist houses, Mansard Victorian, Tudor Revival, Cambrel and Cape styles

storm cloud. He is related to Athena, Hades, and Poseidon. His characteristics are
strong and very very powerful. He is most of the time represented by the oak tree
and his sacred animal is the eagle. He s the most common known Greek God.
(Hamilton 27)
After the glorious victory of the Olympian gods over the Titans, Gaea, the Mother
Earth , became very angry with Zeus, the King of the Olympian Gods, because she
felt that he had treated her sons, the Titans, unfairly.Gaea therefore unified with
Tartarus (the symbol of the depths of the Underworld) to create a devastating monster
which was meant to destroy Zeus and take his place. They gave the monster the name
Compare And Contrast Distance Running And Cycling
Distance running and cycling first began and were introduced as sports, in the 1800 s
when the first Olympic Games took place. Since then, these sports have become
increasingly well known around the world and in society. Distance running, and road
racing cycling have many different components including the types of equipment s
used, muscles worked, VO2 max levels, the weather each sport can occur in, etc.
Although these two sports are quite different, they are both well known and loved by
the many individuals who take part in a healthy sporting lifestyle. By analyzing the
nutritional requirements, common injuries, and legal and/or illegal performance
enhancing drugs, many differences and similarities can be discovered and revealed
regarding these two sport activities.
Proper nutrition is one of the most essential elements to being healthy and living a
long life. Choosing better decisions with your nutrition and hydration can result in
improved performance, injury prevention and recovery. Both professional road racing
cyclists and marathon runners follow specific diets to obtain their careers as athletes,
so they can continue to do what they love. Cycling and running are both considered
endurance sports that require similar nutritional requirements when training, during,
and after the activity. Carbohydrates play a significant role in these two sports as they
provide energy for the central nervous system and help maintain essential glycogen
stores within the muscles,
The Pros And Cons Of Portland Pozzolana Cement
4.What is PPC Cement?
What is Pozzolana?
Pozzolana is a compounds possessing cement properties formed by silica materials
with very little cement properties, reacted with calcium hydroxide at ambient
temperature. Pozzolana materials are natural fly ash, volcanic ash; produced by
combustion of calcined clay and coal. Any of these materials can be used in
preparing Portland Pozzolana Cement.
How is Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC) manufactured?
PPC is produced in two ways:
1.Grinding pozzolana materials and portland cement clinker together with addition of
gypsum or calicum sulphate.
2.Blending fine Pozzolana materials and Portland cement.
When Portland cement clinker is blended with the pozzolanic materials and the result
is PPC.

In short but very long buildings, there are many damaging effects during earthquake
shaking. And, in large plan area buildings like warehouses, the horizontal seismic
forces can be much more to be carried by columns and walls.
Horizontal Layout of Buildings
In short, the simple geometry buildings have performed better during the
earthquakes. Buildings with re entrant corners, such as those U, V, H and + shaped in
plan, have been able to sustain significant damage. Many times, the bad effects of
earthquakes can be avoided by making the buildings in two parts. Like, an L shaped
plan can be divided into two rectangular plan shapes using a partition point at the
junction. At times, the plan of buildings is simple, but the columns/walls are not
equally distributed. Such buildings tend to twist during earthquake or shaking.
Vertical Layout of Buildings
The earthquake forces developed at a building differs for different floor levels. This
force is supposed to be brought down along the shortest height to the ground or it
may path results in poor performance of the
Hippocrates And Galen Essay
Hippocrates And Galen
Hippocrates (460? 370? B.C.) is acknowledged as the father of modern medicine.
He was born on the island of Kos, and taught medicine there before dying in
Larissa. He is known as the founder of holistic medicine, because he was the first to
attribute illness to be one of the four elements fire, water, earth, and air rather than an
affliction given by the gods. However, locals believed Hippocrates was a descendant
of Asklepios, god of medicine. Hippocrates himself was a good example of his
philosophy: he died aged 104. He is associated with the Hippocratic Oath and also
the Hippocratic Corpus.

Medicine had regressed since the Roman period, as people believed in more
supernatural causes for illness instead of more natural ideas; one of the major causes
of this was because the church continued to use Galen s and Hippocrates ideas.
During the medieval period the church dominated society, it controlled universities,
libraries and towns. However it wasn t just the church that kept Galen and
Hippocrates ideas influential for so long.
Galen remained influential for 1500 years for many reasons; he wrote down his
ideas and he was highly respected therefore people were scared to criticise his
ideas. His theories were acceptable to the Christian and Muslim religions as Galen
often talked about the creator in his writings. This fitted in well with the church. The
church in the Middle Ages believed that if people started to prove Galen s ideas to be
wrong then others may start to question the existence of god.
Galen was not a Christian or a Muslim but he believed in one God and talked about
the creator . This made his work acceptable to both Christian and Islamic cultures as it
fitted in with their teachings. It was not until the Renaissance that people made
accurate studies of human anatomy. They gained a new

Italian Renaissance Unique Facts
The Renaissance in the 15th century brought forth new forms of knowledge, reform,
and enlightenment over Europe, particularly Florence, Italy. Despite its period of
turmoil in the 12th century, the city of Florence went into a period of artistic
creativity and dramatic cultural advancement. The 15th century excelled in the fields
of art, music, literature, poetry, philosophy, science and theology. The Italian
Renaissance is known to be an effective cultural development period which transpired
innovational thinking and creative enrichment ( Unique Facts About Europe: The

The House of Medici, also known as the Medici family, was a political dynasty who
obtained sovereignty in Florence, Italy around the 13th century through merchants
and banking. The Medici s reign as dukes of Tuscany played a substantial role in the
cultural development of Florence, especially in Florentine art. The Medici Family

Domestic Violence ( Dv )
Needs Statement:
Domestic violence (DV), also known as intimate partner violence, is a pattern of
abusive behavior that keeps one partner in a position of power over the other through
the use of fear, intimidation and control.
DV is a cultural and societal problem, and not a women s problem or a men s
problem as many people come to believe. The problem also stems from the lack of
adequate and consistent training for persons helping survivors escape their situation.
Therefore, the solution to prevent and eliminate domestic abuse must be multi
dimensional, diverse, and comprehensive (Coulter, 2009).
Domestic violence is the leading cause of serious injury to women. Data shows that
in 2014 New York City Police Department responded to over 282,000 domestic
incidents, where 63 were family related homicides. There was also a 22.3% increase
from 2013 or over 54,600 client visits to the New York City Family Justice Centers.
Between 2001 and 2012, there were 864 domestic violence homicides in New York
City, where the definition of intimate partner homicides was expanded in 2009 to
include the homicides by boyfriend/girlfriends.
The prevention of Domestic violence (DV) is important because family related
violence occurs in a social context and has an enduring impact on a community. It is
one of the foremost causes of homelessness and occurs frequently in homes where
child abuse is present (New York City Domestic Violence Fatality Review Committee,
2014, p. 2).

Why Shelter Dogs Should Not Be Put Down
Why Shelter Dogs Should not be put down, but used to benefit our society .
Animal Euthanasia, is a process during which an animal is put to death. According to
Humane society about 2.4 million healthy, adoptable cats and dogs about one every
13 seconds are put down in U.S shelters each year. (humane society.) The saying that
dogs are a man s best friend is often thought of when thinking of dogs, but what if I
tell you the man is the dog s best friend, or even the only friend, only family. So
often we see people buying Dogs because they are so cute! and so warm/fuzzy
/cuddly! and 90% of the time those dogs do not stay with this family, either they
take too much time, decide to move, not enough space or the saddest one they can
no longer afford it, and those dogs find their way to the shelter. The family who put
their dogs in shelters think it is the best decision, but in turn, it s really a death
sentence. According to Akita Rescue, a dog has 72 hours to find a new family from
the moment you drop it off. (Anonymous) after this time the animal gets put down,
So why do this to your pet? to any pet? why have them sit in a cell for no reason,
other than you not having enough time or no longer wanting to take care of it; that
Dog doesn t have relatives to which he can go to when things go bad, he can t just
go to his sister, mother, father, or grandparents to that dog you are the world, and by
putting your dog in the shelter the dog loses not only you but also his world.
Gattaca Symbolism
In Social Vertigo and Loss of Self in Gattaca, (Film as Text, 2007) Justin Shaw
examines the central hierarchy structure, looking up at one class of people means
you are looking down at another. He also identifies the juxtaposition between valid s
(sciences creations), and in valid s (God children). While I mostly agree with Shaw s
article, I disagree with his claim that this will be Vincent s final time experiencing
social discrimination and wish he would have a supporting claim to further elaborate
on his viewpoint. Although Shaw is not entirely effective in fully analyzing and
supporting a key point, I do think that he effectively dissects the symbolism seen
throughout the film and maintains to build off Gattaca s message; you can... Show

The first example of this in his article is when Vincent was barred in pursuit of his
goals, where Anton never faced these road blocks. He (Vincent) is prevented from
attending kindergarten with other children and is barred from pursuing his dreams
(166). This discrimination is show from the beginning; Vincent was brought unto the
world naturally while Anton was brought into this world by science s cold and
clinical world. (166) Not to mention the height difference between the two is drastic,
where Vincent is much shorter, again, lower in the world. Anton never faced this
social rejection, until the end of the film when Vincent out swam his brother. In that
moment Vincent was genetically superior and if Gattaca s people would have
known about this Anton would have been considered an invalid. For these reasons, I
agree when Shaw notes that there is an instability in hierarchy; you could be social
valued one day and seen as in valid the

In the aftermath were calls for enhanced corporate governance and risk management,
with new law, regulation, and listing standards. The need for an enterprise risk
management framework, providing key principles and concepts, a common language,
and clear direction and guidance, became even more compelling. COSO believes this
Enterprise Risk Management Integrated Framework fills this need, and expects it will
become widely accepted by companies and other organizations and indeed all
stakeholders and interested parties. Among the outgrowths in the United States is the
Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002, and similar legislation has been enacted or is being
considered in other countries. This law extends the long standing requirement for
public companies to maintain systems of internal control, requiring management to
certify and the independent auditor to attest to the effectiveness of those systems.
Internal Control Integrated Framework, which continues to stand the test of time,
serves as the broadly accepted standard for satisfying those reporting requirements.
This Enterprise Risk Management Integrated Framework expands on internal control,
providing a more robust and extensive focus on the broader subject of enterprise risk
management. While it is not intended to and does not replace the internal control
framework, but rather incorporates the internal control framework within it,
companies may decide to look to
White Noise Delillo
In the book, White Noise by Don DeLillo, Jack Gladney is a small town college
professor of Hitler Studies at the College on the Hill. Throughout the book, Jack
obsesses over the fear of death that makes him contemplate his life and the elements
that come with it. The element that he continues to question is technology.
Technology is a large aspect of humans and how we function. DeLillo shows his
audience how technology is a major element in this book. The author highlights this
when Jack is told by the computer that the airborne toxin has infected his
bloodstream. Also, the daughters of Jack and Babette feel the symptoms of the
airborne toxin consecutively after the radio informs them of the effects the aura of
authority has towards technology.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Airborne Toxic Eventcaused by the train detachment enabled the toxic chemical,
Nyodene Derivative, to spread into the atmosphere. Scientists perform tests on this
chemical with new technology, but can never completely tell what the symptoms are
if exposed to the chemical. This initiated such a problem and it elicits the fear of how
new technology, in a catastrophic event like this, could potentially go horribly
wrong. The fear of these new technology advancements are seen in all the
characters, but specifically Babette and Jack. Babette states, I feel they re working
on the superstitious part of my nature. Every advance is worse than the one before
because it makes me more scared . Jack says, The greater the scientific advance, the
more primitive the fear (DeLillo 161). Jack and Babette strongly show how they are
feeling about technology and DeLillo shows his audience how mistrust of technology
is a problem. Also, another example of mistrust is when Jack is checked for radiation
of the chemical in his bloodstream. Jack questions the simulated evacuation
technician and the technology he is using. What about the computers? Is that real
data you re running through the system or is it just practice stuff (DeLillo 139). The
SIMUVAC technician tests Jack by plugging details into a computer that tell him that
his death is imminent. Jack trusts what the computer says, rather than trusting
himself, and Jack becomes completely dependent on the computer. DeLillo
demonstrates how mistrust is being used by Jack and compares it to society and
how technology has become so mistrusted and depended on. After Jack is told by
the computer he is going to die, DeLillo continues to emphasize the trust issues. I
think I felt as I would if a doctor had held a
Descriptive Essay On Sign Language
My friend, Kacey, eagerly waved her scrunched up her hand and said, This is the
letter, A in sign language! I tilted my head slightly in peculiarity and asked Kacey,
What s the letter B in sign language?
She didn t know. As soon as I arrived home from school, I sat down in front of my
computer and googled, sign language alphabet. I closely examined the picture charts
online of the hand symbols for each letter. Each hand symbol was different from the
other and some hand symbols looked like the actual letter of the alphabet.
I studiously searched websites that taught sign language and discovered a whole
realm of vocabulary sign language words. My spare moments were spent glaring at
my computer screen and repeating hand motions from videos and pictures of a man
or a woman doing the motions of the word. Every moment when I learned a new
symbol in sign language, the uniqueness of being able to spell with my hand
awakened a sense of learning.
Then, I lifted my hand and learned to spell the letter, A in sign language which
eventually became the letter B. I slowly moved each finger corresponding to the
picture, but as soon as I finished learning a new letter, I would immediately forget it. I
would go back to the letter that I forgot and reteach it to myself. Some finger
movements of the letters were difficult to motion, the repetition of memorizing the
new letters became redundant.
Many times, I questioned myself why I continued to learn the language, but that didn
t stop me.
As I was learning, I always thought sign language was plainly spoken through the
hands. Until I stumbled upon a website that explained how important facial
expressions are when you use sign language. So, on top of trying to retain all the
vocabulary and letters in sign language, I picked up on how to perform in front of
my mirror while making my exaggerated facial expressions when using sign
language. I practiced scrunching my brows when I asked a question in sign language
and continuously used my facial muscles when expressing any phrase I did with my
hands.
My practice and usage for the language grew, but my motivation to continue tapered
off.
I had never encountered anyone that was deaf or hearing impaired that
Ethics Is A System Of Moral Values
General
25.Ethics are a system of moral values and a branch of philosophy. It defines what
is good for persons and society. Simply ethics is a system of moral values. It
influences how anyone makes decisions and goes with their lives. Ethics is
concerned with what is good for individuals and society. This is originated from the
Greek word ethos. It means custom, habit, character or disposition. Moral issues
seem to be agitated. As these are emotional issues. People often let their hearts do the
arguing. And their brains just think traditionally. But another way of handling these
issues is ethical rules and principles. It enables to take a calmer aspect of moral
problems. Thus ethics provide a moral map and a framework to find the right path
despite difficult issues. Ethics covers the following aspects

involved in the assassination of JFK. The assassination is still a topic of debate to

was in interrogation, he changed his story many times when asked routine
questions such as where were you at the time of the shooting , or explain to us
what you did the day of the assassination . He also denied any involvement in the

reports of President Kennedy s brain being switched from when it was seen in

In 1954, the communist forces of Ho Chi Minh defeated the French, accentuating the
growing success and power that Vietnam held. America was calm at first as they
held the belief that Vietnam would serve as a barrier to communism. Unfortunately,
when communism kept spreading, America panicked. American troops were sent
into Vietnam and the citizens of America were lied to about the reason for the
presence of the troops in Vietnam. The years 1964 to 1975 were characterized by
the negative effects of the Vietnam war on American society and how they
heightened social, political and economic tensions by drafting Americans, creating
and repealing the Gulf of Tonkins, uncontrollable war spending, and the protests
towards Nixon and his lying. The social relationships in America were already tense
due to the inequalities handed out to a large portion of American inhabitants but the
relationships worsened during the Vietnam War. Drafting was a very large reason
for the strained national affairs. Black men were drafted and sent to East Asia to
fight for America and were being treated better there than the country they were
fighting for. (Doc C) As the Vietnam War escalated, so did the civil rights protests
and that created more strain in the social ties of the country. The drafting conditions
were unpleasant and unfair and men who met the age requirements who did not
attend college were more likely to be drafted to serve which created stress on the

ost of us know about Dodge s Charger and Challenger Hellcat engine that puts out
about 707 hp. Fiat Chrysler has now released the third vehicle to be equipped with
this monster engine. Named the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk . Supercharged 6.2

of iron comes in at about 800 pounds, much heavier than the 6.4 liter Hemi in the
SRT Grand Cherokee. This hellcat engine adds about 259 more pounds to the
already heavy SRT engine previously in the Grand Cherokee. Fiat Chrysler claims
this vehicle to go 0 60 in 3.5 seconds. That s quiet fast for a family suv. Track time

Metaphysical Realm Of Garbage
The Metaphysical Realm of Garbage My volunteer experience at Howling Timbers
included cleaning and preparing meals for the animals using expired produce
donated from local grocery stores. My work started with sorting the new shipments of
goods into categories and rotating them with the old, molding fruits and vegetables
that would get used in the evening. During meal preparation, I cut off the fuzzy,
moldy, slimy, and decomposing parts of the fruit and vegetables and put the
salvageable portions into foodbins for the horses, pigs, donkeys and sugar gliders,
the scraps into a compost pile. I asked Brenda if larger corporations gave Howling
Timbers their expired produce and learned that the food donations at Howling
Timbers come from local grocery stores. Brenda explains to the managers at these
larger grocers that the food they receive is only for animal consumption. Still, they
deny her the food and dispose of their expired goods in the dumpster out of sight, out
of mind. Slavoj Zizek says in Examined Life that Part of our daily perception of

The Company s Supply Chain Management Processes
Before suggesting new initiatives for Air Products, this study will first discuss the
company s Supply Chain Management processes, processes that could be greatly
improved by BPR. A business process is a collection of linked tasks that result in the
delivery of a service or product to a client. A business processis also understood to be
a set or activities and tasks that once completed, will accomplish an organizational
goal. A business is an organizational system in which economic resources (input) are
transformed by various business processes (processing) into goods and services
(output). Business processes include marketing, developing, producing, and
delivering products and services that support customers (O Brien, 2011).

I will make recommendations for how this business process can be reengineered in
accordance to the company s values of quality, innovation, and service through
Business Process Reengineering (BPR) (Hammer, 110). BPR is a management
approach involving a fundamental rethinking and radical design of the business
process to achieve dramatic improvements in critical contemporary measures of
performance such as cost, quality, service and speed. BPR elevates efficiency and
effectiveness of the company s processes that exist within and across the
organizations. The key to BPR is for the company to examine its business processes
from a clean slate perspective and determine how they can best construct these
processes to improve how they conduct business. This perspective enables the
designers of the business processes to dissociate themselves from the current process
and focus on developing a new process.
The goals BPR seeks to accomplish can be achieved by taking steps such as 1)
subsuming information processing work into the real work that produces the
information; 2) Treat

John Winthrop A Model Of Christian Charity Analysis
In 1630, Puritan leader John Winthrop delivered perhaps the most famous sermon
in American history entitled A Model of Christian Charity, in which he stressed to
his fellow Puritans to adopt a sense of unity by setting aside self interest for the
sake of the community (Cohen, 2). Winthrop s idea of putting community first has
played a major role in American history, but as Winthrop probably knew would
happen, his idea of unity has always been at odds with those of self interest; as
America is very much a history of these competing forces. The forces of those
willing to put aside their own interest for unity, the common good, and for the
preservation of the Union vs. those who have pursued their own selfish ways. This
paper will offer insights into how Winthrop s remarks have played out during the
first half of American history by examining certain individuals and events that have
followed along with Winthrop s idea, or those who have posed a challenge to it.
Twenty three years before Winthrop gave his sermon conflict over self interest vs.
the common good was being played out in Jamestown. Jamestown had been
established in 1607 as a purely economic venture as Englishmen traveled to the New
World in pursuit of riches, following in the footsteps of the Spanish. These men were
consumed with their own self interest of finding gold and becoming rich as opposed
to working for the betterment of the colony, causing Jamestown to teeter on the edge
of extinction for nearly a
Effects Of Alcoholism On The American Medical Association
Assignment: Literature review
Topic: Addiction to alcohol

Literature Review
Definition of alcoholism: According to the American medical association alcoholism
is a chronic disease with genetic, psychosocial and environmental factors influencing
development and manifestations.
Alcoholism has had a tremendous impact on the human condition and its relationship
to society.
The evolution of alcoholism, its behavior and quality of life impact will be
addressed; as well as treatments and fiscal impact in the literature review.
Alcoholism is a complex disorder with many pathways leading to its development.
Genetic and other biological factors are likely involved in the emergence of alcohol
dependence, along with cognitive, behavioral, temperament, psychological, and
sociocultural factors. Alcohol use patterns, including alcohol abuse and alcohol
dependence, are familial in nature (cf. Heath et al.,
1997; cf. Kendler, Heath, Neale, Kessler, Eaves, 1992; Hesselbrock, 1995). That is,
similar styles of alcohol use and the presence of alcoholism are often found within the
same family, running from parent to child and across multiple generations of
biologically related individuals.
However, many other traits or behaviors, such as religious or political affiliation,
which have little or no biological basis and, therefore, cannot be under heavy genetic
control, also run in families. While genetic and other biological factors cannot fully

Beowulf As An Ultimate Hero

Beowulf: the archetypal (ultimate) hero Archetypal heroes are found in many
literary works, and in varied forms. In literary terms, a hero (male) or heroine
(female) is defined as a character that goes against adversity, has great strength,
courage, bravery, and who makes unselfish sacrifices, usually for the greater good.
The Collins English Dictionary defines archetypal as a perfect example of
something. Archetypes in literature was first applied by Carl Jung (1875 1961), a
Swiss psychiatrist. Jung recognized patterns in mythologies and stories regardless of
the time period that was covered by the literary work. Archetypal heroes present in

It is that characteristic to want to help others even if it means sacrificing your life,
that supports designating Beowulf as an archetypal hero. The 14 men that went with
Beowulf made up the band of companions or supporters of the hero that is typically
found in stories about heroes. Beowulf and his men were very brave. Bravery is
another characteristic of an archetypal hero. Upon safely reaching Denmark, the
great warrior, along with his men, devised a plan to trap and kill the monster.
Beowulf and Grendel came face to face in a good versus evil struggle. Heroes often
face a struggle of some sort (mental or physical).
Beowulf was very, very strong as heroes are. The evil monster was shocked at the
strength of Beowulf, not expecting to encounter one with such strength. Beowulf
ripped the monster s arm off. (Line #__) . Fearful for his life, Grendel struggled to
free himself from the grip of Beowulf. Grendel s one thought was to run from
Beowulf and flee... (314 315). Great strength, as exhibited by Beowulf and
recognized by Grendel, is yet another characteristic of an ultimate hero.
In a gesture of boasting (as archetypal heroes do), Beowulf put the monster s arm on
display like a trophy for all to see. Grendel was not dead, but Beowulf had caused
significant damage to the creature. Another example of Beowolf s strength and
courage is when the
Cretaceous Mass Extinction
The Cretaceous mass extinction had two theories on how and why it happened
through the impact hypothesis. The first one was suggested that an asteroid collided
with Earth 65 million years ago. Luis Alvarez and his son, Walter Alvarez found high
levels of the rare metal iridium in the layers of the Earthduring the periods of the
Cretaceous and Tertiary located in Italy. Their proof is that it was the cause of
extinctionby an asteroid the size of 10 kilometers. The second impact hypothesis was
from a crater that was found buried off the coast of Yucatan, Mexico. Due to the
material that was thrown from the crater into the air, plant life could not receive
sunlight to survive. The same goes for animals as the atmosphere was filled with

can predict when a murder is going to take place. There three humans are special
because as kids, they were in terror of their own dreams. They dreamed of murders
that were going to happen. But the government sees it as a way to make the
community better. So, they brought all three of their special human beings together
and began a company that helps them picture murders before they actually happen.
These dreams told the killer, the victim, and the time the murder would occur but
not the location. It would show the government the items in the location, but not
the exact location. The government would go out looking for this criminal before
the crime was committed. Ethical Concern was distributed through this film

his name came up as a murderer. John stole a precog, the people that have the

that they first visiones of was suppose to happen and who the murderer is but it

the actual killer is. Precrime was a benefit for Washington s government but in the

Role of Indian Banks in the Growth of the Indian Economy
{draw:g} {draw:custom shape} SSUB INTRODUCTION: In the current global
order, where the world has become a big village, consumers take a global look at
the products and services in terms of price, quality, delivery and after sale services.
This trend has sown the seeds of competition in every sector of economy and
banking sector is no exception to this event. Banking, the world over, has been
changing at a spectacular pace. This change is due to multifarious factors like the
need to be efficient in functions, thirst for becoming finance superpowers than mere
banks, growing importance of private banking, the rise in high net worth individuals,

The service standards of the public sector banks began to decline. Their
profitability came down and the efficiency of the staff became suspect. Non
performing assets of these banks began to rise. The wheel of time had turned a full
circle by early nineties and the government after the introduction of structural and
economic reforms in the financial sector, allowed the setting up of new banks in
the private sector. The new generation private banks have now established
themselves in the system and have set new standards of service and efficiency.
These banks have also given tough but healthy competition to the public sector
banks. MODERN DAY ROLE: Banking system and the Financial Institutions play
very significant role in the economy. First and foremost is in the form of catering
to the need of credit for all the sections of society. The modern economies in the
world have developed primarily by making best use of the credit availability in their
systems. An efficient banking system must cater to the needs of high end investors
by making available high amounts of capital for big projects in the industrial,
infrastructure and service sectors. At the same time, the medium and small ventures
must also have credit available to them for new investment and expansion of the
existing units. Rural sector in a country like India can grow only if cheaper credit is
available to the farmers for their short and medium term needs. Credit availability for
Benefits Of Obtaining A Lasting Relationship With A Dog
The purpose of this essay is to investigate the benefits of obtaining a lasting
relationship with a dog. Through research examined from multiple different sources
the important positive influences a dog can provide include an increase in mental
health, social health, and physical health. By acquiring a relationship with a doga
person can seek out meaningful companionship that they are not obtaining from
being in a humanrelationship (Kurdek, 2009). One reason a person may turn to a dog
for company is due to a recent loss of a loved one (Kurdek, 2009). In a study by
Kurdek (2009) it was shown that dogs could help people in an elderly carefacility by
providing them with social interactions. The social interactions created helped the
elderly with mental and social health, but the interactions with the dog also improved
their physical health. In a study by Martin, Wood, Christian, and Trapp (2015) it was
shown that owning a dog creates the obligation to walk the dog daily. With the
increase in physical activity Martin et al. observed an increase in mental and social
health of the subjects results from their study.
Importance of the Family Dog For many of centuries dogs have been an essential part
of many people s lives. There are old sayings like dogs are man s best friend, and
33% of Canadian homes own at least one dog (Perrin, 2009). People have been
known to consider their dog to be an important family member or even treat their dog

You are less likely to make bad financial decisions. I am sure no one wants to let the
lack of money cause them to make bad decisions. No knee jerk reactions required if
funds are set in reserve. Read about finances, save, then invest. When you know better
you do better.
Less stress is a huge benefit. High stress can trigger all types of health problems
from headaches to heart disease. An emergency fund can help alleviate stressors as
these.
Being able to help others. You can now volunteer, donate, or help family and friends
when people are in need. Helping others makes you feel good too. This is also a

I recommend 3 12 months worth of expenses. I have a preference for 8 months
because when I lost my job during the recession it took me that long to land a new job.
You should start with a specific goal in mind such as $500 and continue saving from

Catch-22 I Can See Clearly Now Essay
I Can See Clearly Now
Flannery O Conner argued that [Distortion] is the only way to make people see .
This famous statement is initially contradictory and incongruous, but in Joseph
Heller s Catch 22 it is easy to see the truth of this paradox. The pages of Catch 22 are
lined with distortion and each instance provides for a new kind of clarity. Catch 22 is
simply a war story illustrated by ridiculous behavior and illogical arguments and told
in a flatly satirical tone. Though the book never states outright that matters are funny,
the reader is always aware of how outrageously bizarre the characters and situations
are. Heller uses out of sequence narration, a confused distinction between appearance
and reality, and the irrationally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With Snowden lying dead in his arms, the truth of war becomes even more frightening
and real and Yossarian becomes truly paranoid. Without the focus that the scattered
and repeated storyline of Snowden provides, one may not have been able to grasp its
true significance.
Often times Catch 22 is characterized by a very loose grip on reality. The line
between what is apparent and what is real is continually indistinguishable, even to
readers. One aspect that contributes greatly to this effect is the distortion of justice
and the military technicalities. In the military world created by Heller, what is
written on paper is what is true, even if it can be defied by reality. Throughout
much of the book, Yossarian is found complaining that there is a dead man (24) in
his tent. When the concept of the dead man is first introduced, the readers are led
to believe that there is an actual dead soldier sitting in Yossarian s tent, which the
military refuses to remove. However, later clarification shows that is not the case
at all, but rather, after setting his luggage down, the soldier was killed in the air
before he even got the chance to sign in. The grim irony of the situation is that
according to the appearance based logic of the military, it is as if the man was never
there at all, and his things can therefore not be processed. Another example of such
distorted reality is found in McWatt s
Slaughterhouse Five Comparison
The book Slaughterhouse Five, written by Kurt Vonnegut, is an anti war book about
Vonnegut s exposure to the vivid events that unfolded during his time at the
slaughterhouse in Dresden, Germany and how it affected him. The story is told by
Vonnegut through the perspective of the main protagonist, Billy Pilgrim. Billy was
a survivor from WWII and the Dresden bombing, but after returning he claims to
have traveled through time to explicit memories from life and had been abducted
by Tralfamadorians (aliens). However, in the film Slaughterhouse Five, directed by
George Roy Hill, viewers see slight changes to the storyline. Viewers notice that in
the opening scene that Vonnegut s friend Bernard O Hare and his wife, Mary O
Hare, are never... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During his stay at mental hospital he would bed next to a former infantry captain,
Eliot Rosewater, where Rosewater would introduce him to the science novelist
Kilgore Trout. Through the stories by Trout, Billy read about aliens and time
traveling. From these ideas, influenced by Trout, Billy was able to make up his own
stories and correlate them to his personal war experiences.
One of the more obvious and clear signs that Billy has gone insane is his claim to
be have been kidnapped by extraterrestrial beings known as Tralfamadorians. Billy
claims to have been taken by these beings and taken to Tralfamadore, where he
spends eternity with Montana Wildhack, a famous hollywood actress. Also, from
the film version of the story Wildhack s image makes multiple appearances and
every time Billy glances at her image he stares in awe. Taking this into
consideration, it is important to note the irony that he just happened to be
kidnapped with his celebrity crush by the Tralfamadorians. To further prove that
Billy made up the story about the aliens, viewers must evaluate how he never
mentions how he was captured, or how he managed to escape from Tralfamadore.
Instead, Billy magically returns to Earth and then rambles on about the culture and
philosophy shown on Tralfamadore. The way of life for the Tralfamadorians was
stated by one of the beings which it said, I am a Tralfamadorian, seeing all time as

John Adams Book Report
John Adams is an biography written by David McCullough. This book gives the
readers an in depth insight into the life of the United State s first vice president and
second president, John Adams by providing factual letters, quotes, and experiences
from John Adams and the people whom he loved and cared about dearly. It was
written to give the reader a better understanding about the character of John Adams,
decisions he made during his presidency, and the sacrifices he made to better the
United Statesof America. The book also describes how difficult it was to live in the
late eighteenth century with challenges such as diseases, slavery, and constant
fighting with Britain. The book shows how, despite the personal and professional
challenges he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John saw his father as a role model in his life because he admired his dad s
character. The loss of Deacon John to the Influenza epidemic had tremendous
impact on not only his family, but many families in Braintree, with the disease
spreading rapidly. However, John did not let the death of his father drag him into
depression but moved on with a want of strength and courage (53). Adams, a
supporter of the Patriot movement, began to feel Britain did not have Americans in
their best interests. He felt the Stamp Acts were a tactic used to oppress the
American people. Foreign powers can not be expected to acknowledge us, till we
have acknowledged ourselves and taken our station among them as a sovereign
power, an independent nation, Adams wrote, explaining the importance of American
independence as a nation (99). Adams became a delegate from Massachusetts in the
First Continental Congress in 1774 and the Second Continental Congress in 1775
(22). Though Adams was sick with a severe cold and suffering from rheumatism, he
still worked long days as the head of many committees, making him a driving force
behind the American Revolution. When King George III rejected the Olive Branch
Petition, which was America s last ditch to make peace with England it was John
Adams who drafted rules and regulations for the navy (100). Adams would also go on
to suggest that Thomas
The Effects Of Modern Film On Our Rational And Critical...
In twentieth century Germany, Frankfurt School philosophers fiercely debated the
effects of modern film on our rational and critical thought processes. Max Horkheimer
and Theodor Adorno assert film is an oppressive technology that makes us
intellectually docile, while Walter Benjamin contests their assertion by recognizing
film s liberatory potential. Although Horkheimer and Adorno make important points
about the current relationship between film and the masses, they fail to acknowledge
any possible changes to it. In the context of futurity, Benjamin presents a convincing
argument the technology of film can create subjectivities that will help the masses
assimilate into modernity. Horkheimer and Adorno s understanding of film reflects...

Kantian schematism expects us to, from the first, relate sensuous multiplicity to
fundamental concepts (Horkheimer 98). Film, however, leaves the consumer
nothing... to classify, since the classification has already been preempted by the
schematism of production (98). Because modern film only presents classified
information (pre cut, pre chewed, and pre swallowed bits of information), there is no
room for individual interpretation and critique. Horkheimer and Adorno note how the
spectator must need no thoughts of his own: the product prescribes each reaction, not
through actual coherence... any logical connection presupposing mental capacity is
scrupulously avoided (109). In prescribing the narratives of each action and reaction,
Horkheimer and Adorno argue film attempts to prevent individuals from utilizing
their mental faculties (rational and critical thought). That is, film forces the masses
into a state of mental lethargy solely for commercial pursuit of capital. Such is
achieved by overstimulation; film is a stimulant concocted by the experts which
cannot escape the weary eye of the viewer (110). Succinctly put, Horkheimer and
Adorno detest modern film because it oppresses human thought by means of
sensorial overstimulation. In The Work of Art in the Age of Its Technological
Reproducibility, Benjamin recognizes the liberatory function film may have in

Gabriel Monologue
Mistletoe
You were going to kill that archangel.
Gabriel had been in a festive mood since December 1st, and he d chosen to decorate
the bunker when he had been bored one day. Unfortunately for you, that meant he d
hung up dozens of mistletoe bunches everywhere. There was mistletoe outside your
door, in the hallway into the kitchen, and of course in every single doorway.
But that wasn t even the worst part. The worst bit was that Gabriel enchanted them so
that if someone accidentally walked under one, they couldn t move from that spot
until someone kissed them. And God forbid someone get stuck under there with
another person... Neither of them would escape unscathed.
Of course, for the first few days there were a lot of the boys accidentally ... Show

Castiel s brow furrowed, he didn t seem placated by your explanation and he didn t
seem to like the way you froze up and refused to look at him.
What kind of prank is it supposed to be? Castiel questioned, It doesn t seem like a
very good one. Gabriel snorted and you glared menacingly at him. The archangel
didn t seem to care that much, if his carefree expression was any indication.
Whoops! Gabriel exclaimed. He shoved his hand against your back and sent you
flying through the air and caused you to run into Cas. You stumbled as you fell
against him, but you brushed him off when the confused angel attempted to help you.
Castiel released you from his grip when you tried to take a step away. You couldn t.
Gabriel, stop this right now. Your voice was a deadly whisper, your voice trembling
with anger. The irritation that you d been feeling toward the archangel had blown
into full on rage. Gabriel smirked.
I don t think so, he said callously, You know what you have to do, and I know that if
I leave the two of you to figure out your feelings on your own it ll never happen.
What the hell was he on about? Your feelings were completely one sided and
Gabriel knew that so why was he forcing this humiliation upon you? You looked
down at the floor, glaring at it so hard that you were surprised when it didn t burst
into flames or disintegrate before your
Antibiotic Investigation
The graph I have created is a line graph. I included the four types of antibiotics we
tested.
Control, which is a blank template and has no medicine on it, but acted example of
no effectiveness, penicillin, streptomycin, and tetracycline. The zone of inhabitation
is a circular shape around the circle pad of antibiotic that represents the effectiveness
of an antibiotic at a given dosage. It is measured in millimeters and included the
diameter of the disk of antibiotic. We determine the effectiveness of it by putting the
different measurements in three different categories. The categories are resistant,
intermediate, and susceptible. Resistant means that the antibiotic was not effective,
intermediate means it was slightly effective, and susceptible ... Show more content on

coli, and the other was for s. epi. We covered the inside of each petri dish (that had a
jelly base) with the bacteria it was designated for. After that, we split both dishes
into four sections. In the middle of each section we would put an antibiotic disc.
After all four of the antibiotics were placed in each dish with tweezers, they were
incubated overnight. The next day, we measured the zone of inhabitance around
each antibiotic disc. I had two statements in my hypothesis. If S. epi is gram
positive, then penicillin, streptomycin, and tetracycline will be effective on it
because each one reacts with gram positive bacteria. If E. coli is gram negative,
then streptomycin and tetracycline will be effective on it because each one reacts
with gram positive bacteria. I reject the first statement in my hypothesis because
only one of the antibiotics was susceptible on s. epi, while the others were
resistant. I accept my second hypothesis because both streptomycin and tetracycline
were susceptible on the e. coli bacteria. We can relate this experiment to the outside
world by testing the effectiveness of antibiotics on certain diseases and infections.
This important for the care and treatment of people so they can continue living
their lives. If I or a friend every needed to know the effectiveness of a antibiotic
against a bacteria I can look up labs similar to this one to make sure we are taking

Ciocalteu Reagetion Lab Report
Antioxidative activity can be tested using total phenolic content (TPC), 2, 2 diphenyl
1 picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) tests. In
TPC test, Folin Ciocalteu reagent (mixture of phosphomolybdate and
phosphotungstate) is used to determine the antioxidant potential of phenolic and
polyphenolic from the sample. DPPH bonds with hydrogen atom from sample
while hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) bonds with iron ion (Fe3+) to form iron (III)
thiocyanate, Fe(SCN)3 in the FRAP test. The phenolic acids and flavonoids are
contributing to antioxidant activities. Radical scavenging activity of petroleum ether

Extraction of plant material
Method of Hassan et al. (2015) was adopted for preparation of plant material and
extract with minor modifications. The 70% acetone (Merck, Germany) extracts were
prepared by dissolving fine powder of C. nutans in 1:10 solvent using ultrasonic
extraction in an ultrasonic bath for an hour. Then the extracts were filtered with the
aid of a Bucker funnel and Whatman filter paper #1. The extracts were preserved in
airtight bottles at 40В°C for further use.
Preliminary qualitative phytochemical analysis
Qualitative phytochemical screening of the extracts was performed using a standard
procedure by Sofowora (1993), Harborne (1984, pp. 4 16) and Trease and Evans
(2002, pp. 23 67).
1.Test for alkaloids
A 2 mL of potassium iodide was added to crude extract, which forms brown
precipitate with alkaloids solutions.
2.Test for flavonoids
A 2 mL of sodium hydroxide solution (2%) was added to crude extract, followed by
few drops of diluted acid. Transformation from intense red orange color to colorless
indicated the presence of flavonoids.
3.Test for glycosides
A 2 mL of glacial acetic acid(1 2 drops of 2% ferric chloride) was mixed with crude
extract. Then, the mixture was poured carefully into test tube with 2 mL of
concentrated sulfuric acid. Presence of cardiac glycosides was determined by the

  • 2. My Love Story I loved Bob with all my heart, or as much as you could love someone in 1252 in England as a female. I have told you about Bob before, haven t I? He knew everything about me from my favorite color to my deepest secrets. We did everything together, too; we went to the pond together, we went to the market together, we even ate together. We always exchanged I love you whenever we saw each other, and everyone thought we would eventually get married. He cared about me, and I cared about him. We were the perfect love story. Of course, all perfect stories must come to an end. It was a warm autumn day. The sun was shining, the leaves on the trees were brilliant reds, oranges, and golds, and everyone was out taking care of business on our measly dirt road. Bob and I had spent the day cleaning his home and taking care of his younger sisters, so we were both burning up. As we left his house, I had a brilliant idea. Bob darling, let us go to the pond. We can cool off there! The pond was a beautiful, tranquil place. The only sounds that could be heard were the breeze rustling the weeping willows beside the pond and the birds chirping in the willows. The pale, calm blue of the pond had helped me fall asleep a number of times. It was a wonderful place to cool off and swim, too. Bob however, instead of getting excited as he had on multiple occasions at any mention of the pond jumped away from me, guilt written on his face. I can t, I...I... Bob? Are you alright? I asked, concerned. Of course. I just can t come to the pond today, he responded, his composure regained. I...uh...I have other plans. I m sorry. Oh. Alright then. It s okay. He smiled at me, and I smiled back, although it was a little forced. Then, he turned around and disappeared into the bustle of the market. As I watched him walk away, my smile faded. What was wrong with him? Or is it me? He always hung out with me, even if he had previous arrangements. This continued for days; I would want to do something together, but Bob would have other engagements. Soon, we were doing nothing. I quickly grew suspicious. What could he possibly be doing? Eventually, I decided to follow him to his other engagements . It was a

He was born on the island of Kos, and taught medicine there before dying in Larissa. He is known as the founder of holistic medicine, because he was the first to attribute illness to be one of the four elements fire, water, earth, and air rather than an affliction given by the gods. However, locals believed Hippocrates was a descendant of Asklepios, god of medicine. Hippocrates himself was a good example of his philosophy: he died aged 104. Medicine had regressed since the Roman period, as people believed in more supernatural causes for illness instead of more natural ideas; one of the major causes of this was because the church continued to use Galen s and Hippocrates ideas. During the medieval period the church dominated society, it controlled universities, libraries and towns. However it wasn t just the church that kept Galen and Hippocrates ideas influential for so long. Galen remained influential for 1500 years for many reasons; he wrote down his ideas and he was highly respected therefore people were scared to criticise his ideas. His theories were acceptable to the Christian and Muslim religions as Galen often talked about the creator in his writings. This fitted in well with the church. The church in the Middle Ages believed that if people started to prove Galen s ideas to be wrong then others may start to question the existence of god. Galen was not a Christian or a Muslim but he believed in one God and talked about the creator . This made his work acceptable to both Christian and Islamic cultures as it fitted in with their teachings. It was not until the Renaissance that people made accurate studies of human anatomy. They gained a new

  • 12. Domestic Violence ( Dv ) Needs Statement: Domestic violence (DV), also known as intimate partner violence, is a pattern of abusive behavior that keeps one partner in a position of power over the other through the use of fear, intimidation and control. DV is a cultural and societal problem, and not a women s problem or a men s problem as many people come to believe. The problem also stems from the lack of adequate and consistent training for persons helping survivors escape their situation. Therefore, the solution to prevent and eliminate domestic abuse must be multi dimensional, diverse, and comprehensive (Coulter, 2009). Domestic violence is the leading cause of serious injury to women. Data shows that in 2014 New York City Police Department responded to over 282,000 domestic incidents, where 63 were family related homicides. There was also a 22.3% increase from 2013 or over 54,600 client visits to the New York City Family Justice Centers. Between 2001 and 2012, there were 864 domestic violence homicides in New York City, where the definition of intimate partner homicides was expanded in 2009 to include the homicides by boyfriend/girlfriends. The prevention of Domestic violence (DV) is important because family related violence occurs in a social context and has an enduring impact on a community. It is one of the foremost causes of homelessness and occurs frequently in homes where child abuse is present (New York City Domestic Violence Fatality Review Committee, 2014, p. 2). We plan to help

According to Humane society about 2.4 million healthy, adoptable cats and dogs about one every 13 seconds are put down in U.S shelters each year. (humane society.) The saying that dogs are a man s best friend is often thought of when thinking of dogs, but what if I tell you the man is the dog s best friend, or even the only friend, only family. So often we see people buying Dogs because they are so cute! and so warm/fuzzy /cuddly! and 90% of the time those dogs do not stay with this family, either they take too much time, decide to move, not enough space or the saddest one they can no longer afford it, and those dogs find their way to the shelter. The family who put their dogs in shelters think it is the best decision, but in turn, it s really a death sentence. According to Akita Rescue, a dog has 72 hours to find a new family from the moment you drop it off. (Anonymous) after this time the animal gets put down, So why do this to your pet? to any pet? why have them sit in a cell for no reason, other than you not having enough time or no longer wanting to take care of it; that Dog doesn t have relatives to which he can go to when things go bad, he can t just go to his sister, mother, father, or grandparents to that dog you are the world, and by putting your dog in the shelter the dog loses not only you but also his world.

Gattaca Symbolism In Social Vertigo and Loss of Self in Gattaca, (Film as Text, 2007) Justin Shaw examines the central hierarchy structure, looking up at one class of people means you are looking down at another. He also identifies the juxtaposition between valid s (sciences creations), and in valid s (God children). While I mostly agree with Shaw s article, I disagree with his claim that this will be Vincent s final time experiencing social discrimination and wish he would have a supporting claim to further elaborate on his viewpoint. Although Shaw is not entirely effective in fully analyzing and supporting a key point, I do think that he effectively dissects the symbolism seen throughout the film and maintains to build off Gattaca s message; you can... He (Vincent) is prevented from attending kindergarten with other children and is barred from pursuing his dreams (166). This discrimination is show from the beginning; Vincent was brought unto the world naturally while Anton was brought into this world by science s cold and clinical world. (166) Not to mention the height difference between the two is drastic, where Vincent is much shorter, again, lower in the world. Anton never faced this social rejection, until the end of the film when Vincent out swam his brother. In that moment Vincent was genetically superior and if Gattaca s people would have known about this Anton would have been considered an invalid. For these reasons, I agree when Shaw notes that there is an instability in hierarchy; you could be social valued one day and seen as in valid the

The need for an enterprise risk management framework, providing key principles and concepts, a common language, and clear direction and guidance, became even more compelling. COSO believes this Enterprise Risk Management Integrated Framework fills this need, and expects it will become widely accepted by companies and other organizations and indeed all stakeholders and interested parties. Among the outgrowths in the United States is the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002, and similar legislation has been enacted or is being considered in other countries. This law extends the long standing requirement for public companies to maintain systems of internal control, requiring management to certify and the independent auditor to attest to the effectiveness of those systems. Internal Control Integrated Framework, which continues to stand the test of time, serves as the broadly accepted standard for satisfying those reporting requirements. This Enterprise Risk Management Integrated Framework expands on internal control, providing a more robust and extensive focus on the broader subject of enterprise risk management. While it is not intended to and does not replace the internal control framework, but rather incorporates the internal control framework within it, companies may decide to look to

Throughout the book, Jack obsesses over the fear of death that makes him contemplate his life and the elements that come with it. The element that he continues to question is technology. Technology is a large aspect of humans and how we function. DeLillo shows his audience how technology is a major element in this book. The author highlights this when Jack is told by the computer that the airborne toxin has infected his bloodstream. Also, the daughters of Jack and Babette feel the symptoms of the airborne toxin consecutively after the radio informs them of the effects the aura of authority has towards technology.... Scientists perform tests on this chemical with new technology, but can never completely tell what the symptoms are if exposed to the chemical. The fear of these new technology advancements are seen in all the characters, but specifically Babette and Jack. Babette states, I feel they re working on the superstitious part of my nature. Every advance is worse than the one before because it makes me more scared . Jack says, The greater the scientific advance, the more primitive the fear (DeLillo 161). Jack and Babette strongly show how they are feeling about technology and DeLillo shows his audience how mistrust of technology is a problem. Also, another example of mistrust is when Jack is checked for radiation of the chemical in his bloodstream. Jack questions the simulated evacuation technician and the technology he is using. What about the computers? Is that real data you re running through the system or is it just practice stuff (DeLillo 139). The SIMUVAC technician tests Jack by plugging details into a computer that tell him that his death is imminent. Jack trusts what the computer says, rather than trusting himself, and Jack becomes completely dependent on the computer. DeLillo demonstrates how mistrust is being used by Jack and compares it to society and how technology has become so mistrusted and depended on. After Jack is told by the computer he is going to die, DeLillo continues to emphasize the trust issues. I think I felt as I would if a doctor had held a

I tilted my head slightly in peculiarity and asked Kacey, What s the letter B in sign language? She didn t know. As soon as I arrived home from school, I sat down in front of my computer and googled, sign language alphabet. I closely examined the picture charts online of the hand symbols for each letter. Each hand symbol was different from the other and some hand symbols looked like the actual letter of the alphabet. I studiously searched websites that taught sign language and discovered a whole realm of vocabulary sign language words. My spare moments were spent glaring at my computer screen and repeating hand motions from videos and pictures of a man or a woman doing the motions of the word. Every moment when I learned a new symbol in sign language, the uniqueness of being able to spell with my hand awakened a sense of learning. Then, I lifted my hand and learned to spell the letter, A in sign language which eventually became the letter B. I slowly moved each finger corresponding to the picture, but as soon as I finished learning a new letter, I would immediately forget it. I would go back to the letter that I forgot and reteach it to myself. Some finger movements of the letters were difficult to motion, the repetition of memorizing the new letters became redundant. Many times, I questioned myself why I continued to learn the language, but that didn t stop me. As I was learning, I always thought sign language was plainly spoken through the hands. Until I stumbled upon a website that explained how important facial expressions are when you use sign language. So, on top of trying to retain all the vocabulary and letters in sign language, I picked up on how to perform in front of my mirror while making my exaggerated facial expressions when using sign language. I practiced scrunching my brows when I asked a question in sign language and continuously used my facial muscles when expressing any phrase I did with my hands. My practice and usage for the language grew, but my motivation to continue tapered off. I had never encountered anyone that was deaf or hearing impaired that

People often let their hearts do the arguing. And their brains just think traditionally. But another way of handling these issues is ethical rules and principles. Kennedy (JFK) was shot and killed in a motorcade running through Dealy Plaza, in Dallas, Texas. Shortly after, a man by the name of Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested and charged with the murder of President Kennedy. Over the years there has been much controversy over if Lee Harvey Oswald was in fact, the only man involved in the assassination of JFK. The assassination is still a topic of debate to this day and has spawned many conspiracy theories. At the time, there was little persuasive evidence to prove that Oswald was involved in any sort of conspiracy to assassinate the president, but as time went on people began to grow suspicious of certain things. In 1966,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Ruby claims to have murdered Oswald as revenge for killing President Kennedy, most people believe it was part of a cover up for a much larger conspiracy. After Ruby s arrest, he was sentenced to death, only to have his trials postponed and die of lung cancer shortly after postponing the trial. While Oswald was in interrogation, he changed his story many times when asked routine questions such as where were you at the time of the shooting , or explain to us what you did the day of the assassination . He also denied any involvement in the incident even though there was evidence against him. Oswald was bound to face further, more intense interrogation in the future, and this is the reason most people believe that assassination of Oswald was to prevent him from talking about what actually happened in the Kennedy assassination. There were also many strange reports of President Kennedy s brain being switched from when it was seen in evidence, to when the autopsy was performed. There were pictures of Kennedy s brain for evidence showing immense damage to the rear, consistent with an exit wound and therefore evidence of a shot from the front. Meanwhile, the autopsy brain did not nearly show the same amount of damage in the back of the brain, and an exit wound in the front. Douglas Horne, the Record Review Board s chief analyst for military records said that he was 90 95% certain that these brains were not

America was calm at first as they held the belief that Vietnam would serve as a barrier to communism. Unfortunately, when communism kept spreading, America panicked. American troops were sent into Vietnam and the citizens of America were lied to about the reason for the presence of the troops in Vietnam. The years 1964 to 1975 were characterized by the negative effects of the Vietnam war on American society and how they heightened social, political and economic tensions by drafting Americans, creating and repealing the Gulf of Tonkins, uncontrollable war spending, and the protests towards Nixon and his lying. The social relationships in America were already tense due to the inequalities handed out to a large portion of American inhabitants but the relationships worsened during the Vietnam War. Drafting was a very large reason for the strained national affairs. Black men were drafted and sent to East Asia to fight for America and were being treated better there than the country they were fighting for. (Doc C) As the Vietnam War escalated, so did the civil rights protests and that created more strain in the social ties of the country. The drafting conditions were unpleasant and unfair and men who met the age requirements who did not attend college were more likely to be drafted to serve which created stress on the relationship between college and

During meal preparation, I cut off the fuzzy, moldy, slimy, and decomposing parts of the fruit and vegetables and put the salvageable portions into foodbins for the horses, pigs, donkeys and sugar gliders, the scraps into a compost pile. John Winthrop A Model Of Christian Charity Analysis In 1630, Puritan leader John Winthrop delivered perhaps the most famous sermon in American history entitled A Model of Christian Charity, in which he stressed to his fellow Puritans to adopt a sense of unity by setting aside self interest for the sake of the community (Cohen, 2). Winthrop s idea of putting community first has played a major role in American history, but as Winthrop probably knew would happen, his idea of unity has always been at odds with those of self interest; as America is very much a history of these competing forces. The forces of those willing to put aside their own interest for unity, the common good, and for the preservation of the Union vs. those who have pursued their own selfish ways. This paper will offer insights into how Winthrop s remarks have played out during the first half of American history by examining certain individuals and events that have followed along with Winthrop s idea, or those who have posed a challenge to it. Twenty three years before Winthrop gave his sermon conflict over self interest vs. the common good was being played out in Jamestown. Jamestown had been established in 1607 as a purely economic venture as Englishmen traveled to the New World in pursuit of riches, following in the footsteps of the Spanish. These men were consumed with their own self interest of finding gold and becoming rich as opposed to working for the betterment of the colony, causing Jamestown to teeter on the edge of extinction for nearly a

Effects Of Alcoholism On The American Medical Association Assignment: Literature review Topic: Addiction to alcohol Instructor: Vanda Wark Literature Review Definition of alcoholism: According to the American medical association alcoholism is a chronic disease with genetic, psychosocial and environmental factors influencing development and manifestations. Alcoholism has had a tremendous impact on the human condition and its relationship to society. The evolution of alcoholism, its behavior and quality of life impact will be addressed; as well as treatments and fiscal impact in the literature review. Alcoholism is a complex disorder with many pathways leading to its development. Genetic and other biological factors are likely involved in the emergence of alcohol dependence, along with cognitive, behavioral, temperament, psychological, and sociocultural factors. Alcohol use patterns, including alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence, are familial in nature (cf. Heath et al., 1997; cf. Kendler, Heath, Neale, Kessler, Eaves, 1992; Hesselbrock, 1995). That is, similar styles of alcohol use and the presence of alcoholism are often found within the same family, running from parent to child and across multiple generations of biologically related individuals. However, many other traits or behaviors, such as religious or political affiliation, which have little or no biological basis and, therefore, cannot be under heavy genetic control, also run in families. While genetic and other biological factors cannot fully

  • 38. Catch-22 I Can See Clearly Now Essay I Can See Clearly Now Flannery O Conner argued that [Distortion] is the only way to make people see . This famous statement is initially contradictory and incongruous, but in Joseph Heller s Catch 22 it is easy to see the truth of this paradox. The pages of Catch 22 are lined with distortion and each instance provides for a new kind of clarity. Catch 22 is simply a war story illustrated by ridiculous behavior and illogical arguments and told in a flatly satirical tone. Though the book never states outright that matters are funny, the reader is always aware of how outrageously bizarre the characters and situations are. Heller uses out of sequence narration, a confused distinction between appearance and reality, and the irrationally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With Snowden lying dead in his arms, the truth of war becomes even more frightening and real and Yossarian becomes truly paranoid. Without the focus that the scattered and repeated storyline of Snowden provides, one may not have been able to grasp its true significance. Often times Catch 22 is characterized by a very loose grip on reality. The line between what is apparent and what is real is continually indistinguishable, even to readers. One aspect that contributes greatly to this effect is the distortion of justice and the military technicalities. In the military world created by Heller, what is written on paper is what is true, even if it can be defied by reality. Throughout much of the book, Yossarian is found complaining that there is a dead man (24) in his tent. When the concept of the dead man is first introduced, the readers are led to believe that there is an actual dead soldier sitting in Yossarian s tent, which the military refuses to remove. However, later clarification shows that is not the case at all, but rather, after setting his luggage down, the soldier was killed in the air before he even got the chance to sign in. The grim irony of the situation is that according to the appearance based logic of the military, it is as if the man was never there at all, and his things can therefore not be processed. Another example of such distorted reality is found in McWatt s
  • 39. Slaughterhouse Five Comparison The book Slaughterhouse Five, written by Kurt Vonnegut, is an anti war book about Vonnegut s exposure to the vivid events that unfolded during his time at the slaughterhouse in Dresden, Germany and how it affected him. The story is told by Vonnegut through the perspective of the main protagonist, Billy Pilgrim. Billy was a survivor from WWII and the Dresden bombing, but after returning he claims to have traveled through time to explicit memories from life and had been abducted by Tralfamadorians (aliens). However, in the film Slaughterhouse Five, directed by George Roy Hill, viewers see slight changes to the storyline. During his stay at mental hospital he would bed next to a former infantry captain, Eliot Rosewater, where Rosewater would introduce him to the science novelist Kilgore Trout. Through the stories by Trout, Billy read about aliens and time traveling. From these ideas, influenced by Trout, Billy was able to make up his own stories and correlate them to his personal war experiences. One of the more obvious and clear signs that Billy has gone insane is his claim to be have been kidnapped by extraterrestrial beings known as Tralfamadorians. Billy claims to have been taken by these beings and taken to Tralfamadore, where he spends eternity with Montana Wildhack, a famous hollywood actress. Also, from the film version of the story Wildhack s image makes multiple appearances and every time Billy glances at her image he stares in awe. Taking this into consideration, it is important to note the irony that he just happened to be kidnapped with his celebrity crush by the Tralfamadorians. To further prove that Billy made up the story about the aliens, viewers must evaluate how he never mentions how he was captured, or how he managed to escape from Tralfamadore. Instead, Billy magically returns to Earth and then rambles on about the culture and philosophy shown on Tralfamadore. The way of life for the Tralfamadorians was stated by one of the beings which it said, I am a Tralfamadorian, seeing all time as you might see a stretch of the

John saw his father as a role model in his life because he admired his dad s character. The loss of Deacon John to the Influenza epidemic had tremendous impact on not only his family, but many families in Braintree, with the disease spreading rapidly. However, John did not let the death of his father drag him into depression but moved on with a want of strength and courage (53). Adams, a supporter of the Patriot movement, began to feel Britain did not have Americans in their best interests. He felt the Stamp Acts were a tactic used to oppress the American people. Foreign powers can not be expected to acknowledge us, till we have acknowledged ourselves and taken our station among them as a sovereign power, an independent nation, Adams wrote, explaining the importance of American independence as a nation (99). Adams became a delegate from Massachusetts in the First Continental Congress in 1774 and the Second Continental Congress in 1775 (22). Though Adams was sick with a severe cold and suffering from rheumatism, he still worked long days as the head of many committees, making him a driving force behind the American Revolution. When King George III rejected the Olive Branch Petition, which was America s last ditch to make peace with England it was John Adams who drafted rules and regulations for the navy (100). Adams would also go on to suggest that Thomas
  • 41. The Effects Of Modern Film On Our Rational And Critical... In twentieth century Germany, Frankfurt School philosophers fiercely debated the effects of modern film on our rational and critical thought processes. Max Horkheimer and Theodor Adorno assert film is an oppressive technology that makes us intellectually docile, while Walter Benjamin contests their assertion by recognizing film s liberatory potential. Although Horkheimer and Adorno make important points about the current relationship between film and the masses, they fail to acknowledge any possible changes to it. In the context of futurity, Benjamin presents a convincing argument the technology of film can create subjectivities that will help the masses assimilate into modernity. Kantian schematism expects us to, from the first, relate sensuous multiplicity to fundamental concepts (Horkheimer 98). Film, however, leaves the consumer nothing... to classify, since the classification has already been preempted by the schematism of production (98). Because modern film only presents classified information (pre cut, pre chewed, and pre swallowed bits of information), there is no room for individual interpretation and critique. Horkheimer and Adorno note how the spectator must need no thoughts of his own: the product prescribes each reaction, not through actual coherence... any logical connection presupposing mental capacity is scrupulously avoided (109). In prescribing the narratives of each action and reaction, Horkheimer and Adorno argue film attempts to prevent individuals from utilizing their mental faculties (rational and critical thought). That is, film forces the masses into a state of mental lethargy solely for commercial pursuit of capital. Such is achieved by overstimulation; film is a stimulant concocted by the experts which cannot escape the weary eye of the viewer (110). Succinctly put, Horkheimer and Adorno detest modern film because it oppresses human thought by means of sensorial overstimulation. In The Work of Art in the Age of Its Technological Reproducibility, Benjamin recognizes the liberatory function film may have in

Gabriel had been in a festive mood since December 1st, and he d chosen to decorate the bunker when he had been bored one day. Unfortunately for you, that meant he d hung up dozens of mistletoe bunches everywhere. There was mistletoe outside your door, in the hallway into the kitchen, and of course in every single doorway. But that wasn t even the worst part. The worst bit was that Gabriel enchanted them so that if someone accidentally walked under one, they couldn t move from that spot until someone kissed them. And God forbid someone get stuck under there with another person... Neither of them would escape unscathed. Of course, for the first few days there were a lot of the boys accidentally ... After that, we split both dishes into four sections. In the middle of each section we would put an antibiotic disc. After all four of the antibiotics were placed in each dish with tweezers, they were incubated overnight. The next day, we measured the zone of inhabitance around each antibiotic disc. I had two statements in my hypothesis. If S. epi is gram positive, then penicillin, streptomycin, and tetracycline will be effective on it because each one reacts with gram positive bacteria. If E. coli is gram negative, then streptomycin and tetracycline will be effective on it because each one reacts with gram positive bacteria. I reject the first statement in my hypothesis because only one of the antibiotics was susceptible on s. epi, while the others were resistant. I accept my second hypothesis because both streptomycin and tetracycline were susceptible on the e. coli bacteria. We can relate this experiment to the outside world by testing the effectiveness of antibiotics on certain diseases and infections. This important for the care and treatment of people so they can continue living their lives. Ciocalteu Reagetion Lab Report Antioxidative activity can be tested using total phenolic content (TPC), 2, 2 diphenyl 1 picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) tests. In TPC test, Folin Ciocalteu reagent (mixture of phosphomolybdate and phosphotungstate) is used to determine the antioxidant potential of phenolic and polyphenolic from the sample. DPPH bonds with hydrogen atom from sample while hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) bonds with iron ion (Fe3+) to form iron (III) thiocyanate, Fe(SCN)3 in the FRAP test.
