Twelfth Night Madness
Madness and foolishness make many appearances in Twelfth Night. Feste, the jester in count Olivia s
house states in act 3 scene 1, foolery, sir, does walk about the ord like the sun; it shines everywhere.
The first appearance of madness in the play is when Orsino, the Duke of Illyria, is reciting a poem
about love. Orsino, instead of showing madness as insanity or a mental illness he shows it as mad with
love. Some have made inferences that the images Orsino creates with the poem is him hallucinating.
Orsino in scene 1 act 1 recites, If music be the food of love, play on; Give me excess of it, that,
surfeiting, The appetite may sicken, and so die. That strain again! it had a dying fall...Even in a
minute: so full of shapes is fancy, that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of his rude and bossy actions Maria, Toby, Feste, Andrew, and Fabian made an evil plan.
They planned to trick him and make a fool out of the steward. By making him think Olivia loves him
and that he is a madman, they would sure get their revenge. Maria first wrote a letter to Malvolio
playing as Olivia. The letter is a love poem to Malvolio, claiming she loves him but wishes to keep it a
secret. the letter also asks him to wear yellow stockings and be rude to the servants, and smile all
constantly. Because he thinks it is Olivia he promises to follow her request. When Malvolio encounter
Olivia following the request of the prankster she thinks he s gone mad, Malvolio says Remember who
commended thy yellow stockings, . Olivia then orders toby and maria to take care of him. When
Maria and Toby are to take care of him they start calling him a madman possessed by the devil. Maria,
Toby, and the others have locked Malvolio in a small dark chamber and Feste acts like a priest visiting
the madman Malvolio. Feste soon realizes the torture they are putting Malvolio through and gives him
resources to write a letter. When he is released from the mental torture chamber, he states that he will
get them back somehow. In act 5 scene 1 Malvolio exclaims, I ll be revenged on the whole pack of

Cushing s Disease
Introduction Cushing s syndrome(CS) results from prolonged exposure to excess free glucocorticoids.
Around 10 15 per million people are affected by CS every year(1). Most patients with CS have an
Adrenocorticotrophic(ACTH) secreting pituitary adenoma, which is otherwise known as Cushing s
disease. Other causes of CS include adrenal tumours, ectopic ACTH secreting tumours and exogenous
steroid use. Except for exogenous steroid use, the other mentioned causes of CS can all be caused by
genetic mutations. Currently, very little is known about the prevalence of genetic mutations in CS.
This essay will discuss the key genetic mutations that cause CS and explore the advantages of
identifying the mutations with regards to clinical management of CS. ... Show more content on

Menin acts as an adaptor protein regulating multiple pathways involved in differentiation, DNA repair,
proliferation and epigenetic modification. It is also expressed in all adult tissues which strongly
indicates a key role in cell cycle regulation. This is emphasised by the fact that MEN1 knockout
mice(12) die in utero with neural, hepatic and cardiac abnormalities. However, there is still a mystery
to why the absence of a functioning ubiquitous protein only causes proliferation in endocrine tissue.
This is partially answered by the mechanism of menin. In p27kip and p18ink4c double knockout
mice(13), the mice develop parathyroid and pituitary adenomas. In other words, a very similar picture
to MEN1. This is highly suggestive of menin working upstream of other cell cycle regulators, such as
p27kip and p18ink4c. It also indicates that in endocrine cells there are no mechanisms to compensate
for deficiency in functional menin, whilst in other tissue types can compensate. This explains why
menin deficiency seems to result in endocrine

A Day Late And A Dollar Short Summary
One thing I do know about men and kids is that they always come back. They may be a day late and a
dollar short, but they always come back. Viola, A Day Late and A Dollar Short
As the title is mentioned in the book for the first time it sums up and foreshadows the events in the
book. A day late and a dollar short means a missed opportunity and also being unprepared at the time.
Against all that Viola, the narrator, believes that men and kids always come back.
Summary
Viola the mother of four children works to put her family back together in the short time she has left.
In the hospital from an asthma attack she comes to realize that she won t survive the next asthma
attack she has. Instead of telling this to her family, she keeps it a secret to keep them from worrying
about her. Not until after her death do the the family resolve their petty quarrels when cecil discovers
letters written by viola for each family member to read to another.

like the point of view i enjoyed the book and found the diction interesting. The diction instead of
writing in correct english was written how the characters would have spoken. I also admire the quality

The Killer Angels By John M. Skipper Essay
History 1301 John M. Skipper
The Killer Angels is a historic backstory of the days leading up to the Civil War. The story is told from
multiple viewpoints including Robert E. Lee, James Longstreet, George Meade, and Winfield Scott
Hancock. It is mentioned the Army of Northern Virginia is moving behind the Blue Ridge Mountains,
and that the Army of Potomac is also moving, but is traveling very slow. This is one of the
characteristics which plagued them throughout the war. Shaara gives insight to the background of both
Armies. He described the Confederates as a unified group with soldiers of the same background, while
the Union is the exact opposite. Its men are very divided soldiers fighting for unification. There is one
similarity between the two sides which stands out more than all the others; both sides are ready for the
final showdown. Shaara gives insight into this by hinting towards the conflict, yet never telling the
reader directly. This causes the reader to be drawn deeper into the story anticipating what will happen
next.
There are illustrations showing movement of the Confederate and the Union armies, an epilogue, and
an afterword stating the events after the Battle of Gettysburg. In the foreword, Sharra tells the reader
the purpose of the book is to educate the reader on the history of the battle, but also give insight into
the soldier s thoughts. Sharra also writes that out of all the historic writings about the battle, he chose
to use letters,

Inquisitions In Octavia Butler s The Parable Of The Talents
Beginning in the 12th century, in the middle of the Medieval era, just centuries after the fall of the
greatest empire of classical history, the Roman Empire, with the invasion of religious frustration swept
across much of Europe. These various inquisitions caused a quake of fear for anyone that was
suspected of betraying the Catholic Church and the Vatican. Though it was not just religious heresy
and other religious groups, it was also Pagans, Jews, Hindus, Muslims, Atheists, Freethinkers,
Philosophers, Humanists, and many others. Burning them at the stake, and accusing them of heresy,
sending them to trial, and inevitably their death. These various inquisitions of and the protestant
reformation were known as one of humanities darkest events in history. People lived in fear of
accusation, death, and the ways of this era; the world was living in a shadow of fear, thousands dying
by knife, ax, and fire. Over the course of 500 years, religious conflict was really a widespread issue
and yet tolerated by many. There are many similarities between Octavia Butler s book, The Parable of
the Talents and the various inquisitions of human history, and through the persecution and
conversation, of religious groups, the religious chaos on this time, and how Lauren s character is
similar to other religious icons during these times there is evidence that Butler s novel could be an
inquisition.
One third of the entire population, being accused of heresy by the other two thirds and was lead

Horned Lizard Essay
In the article about How the Horned Lizard Got its horns the main hypothesis proposed by Young et.
al. (2004) is how horned lizards used their horns to protect themselves from predators and how
selection favors the length of their horns (Young et. al. 2004). The thing that the researchers wanted to
test is if the length of the horns made an impact on the survivability of the horned lizards (Young et.
al. (2004)). They tested this by measuring the length of the horned lizards from a group of living
lizards and skulls of the deceased (Young et. al. 2004). According to the data the horned lizards the
lived where the ones with the longer horns in contrast to the deceased carcasses which had the shorter
in length horns (Young et. al. 2004). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
al. 2004, (Agosta et. al. 2004) critique the article by stating that there was not sufficient information
that was provided for the evidence to claim that the horned lizards were adapting. The points Agosta
et. al. 2004 thought that Young et. al. addressed was evidence that selection has occurred on the trait in
question (Young et. al. 2004). An example of this would be when Young et. al. talked about how the
horned lizards with the shorter length were least favored by selection therefore lizards with longer
horns would have greater fitness (Young et. al. 2004). On the other hand, according to Agosta et. al.
claim that Young et. al. failed to present three major points. The three major points are the existence of
a functional explanation for putative fitness differences associated with the trait , evidence for
heritability of phenotype differences corresponding to trait variation , and knowledge of phylogeny
such that putative adaptations can be shown to have originated in selective regimes in which they are
currently advantageous (Agosta et. al. 2004). Agosta et. al. thought the young et. al. lacked the
information to support whether the horned lizards had adapted to the shrikes (Agosta et. al.

The Powerful Owl Analysis
[is what I believe the purpose of the author in creating this poem= my thesis?] Christine Townend
explores the magical nature of the Powerful Owl and its protectiveness of its home against man.
[Overall tone and atmosphere] The owl describes the power and respected statues he holds in nature,
which is also known to humans. It then reiterates what seems to be dark powers it holds, (in the last
two stanzas?) directing it to humans, in order to protect its home from them. The Powerful Owl
establishes to the reader, humans, and the authority that he carries to create a fearful image. This is
seen in the first line the night proceeds when I call for it ; the use of the imperative call gives off the
dominance of the owl over nature. The word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anthropomorhism creates the sense the owl is directing it personally to the reader, to humans, through
this supreme voice aimed to frighten humans and its power. By the end of the poem the Powerful Owl
undermines its confidence and determination that no house will rise where this banksia stands except
my own . The owl comments no house will rise the word no emphasis its confidence and the guard to
ensure that no human house will be built at his home, the banksia. Any images of the powerful owl as
an evil is undermined angels assemble under my wings . The alliteration of a brightens and lifts the
mood which has been created in the rest of the poem suggesting the dark atmosphere was only created
to ward off the humans from destroying its home. It is the angels which assemble under my [the owls]
wing not devils! Angles being an representation of goodwill comes to support the Powerful Owl,
reinforcing its as an animal whom even angels support. This possibly suggests that the humans may be
the devils, even to the extent a Powerful Owl would require the support of angels. The underlying
message of the poem form the owl to the humans is revealed in the final stanzas, the tone created
through the poem is used as a protective barrier and to create awareness and fearful of the power the
owl holds, to stop humans from building

Intertextuality In Walang Forever
Analyzing Genres and Intertextuality: A Critical Paper on the Film Walang Forever
Genre Analysis The genre analysis approach in analyzing media texts helps classify and breakdown
the different genres that were recognized by the viewers as well as created by the movie makers.
These genres offer satisfaction to their target audience brought by the pleasure of having predicted
what was supposed to happen during the film. Genre analysis also identifies whether there is
intertextuality present in relation to other films with the same genre. The recognition of these genres
and having identified their importance within the media text will help the audience to relate the
different cinematic elements of the film and gain more understanding of the ideas that the media text
wanted to convey.
Genre Analysis and Ideology
Having mentioned that the recognition of genres within a media text offer pleasure or satisfaction to
its audience, it is implied that genre analysis is also related to the different ideologies offered by the
media text since there is a momentary satisfaction gained from having achieved the goal of identifying
the genres and predicting the possible outcome of the media text. However, the paper will only ...

Along with the drama genre is the tragedy which is recognized when Ethan died. However, tragedy
was not heavily observed since the movie foretold that Mia has accepted and expected the death of her
lover. This somehow relates to a person s life where he or she loses a loved one, which is very painful

Carlotta Character Traits
Characterization:
Christine This adaptation portrays Christine as ditzy, but not stupid. She has no idea that Raoul has
fallen in love with her and sees him only as a friend. She is pretty, naive, and nice (mostly, however,
very protective over her solos) which makes for a bad combination. She doesn t fully understand the
power she holds over the other characters. For example, if she had told Raoul to go away, he probably
would have. She really moves the story forward as it revolves around her actions and reactions to
events. Her overall motivation consists of furthering her singing career and finding love with someone
who allows her to have her freedom. The other characters like her and she has no problems connecting

It draws the audience in through more moving songs, such as Think of Me. The dialogue has an
overarching modern quality to it, as opposed to the more formal version in the stage and movie
adaptations. The main trio (Phantom, Christine, and Raoul) talk about going to Red Robin, as one
example. They also throw in modern allusions to literature and film (singing machine from Shrek), as
well as Christine using her phone during the roof scene. These changes make it easier for the audience
to connect and find humor within the story. Similar speech patterns follow the characters throughout
the story. Phantom commands and bosses the other characters, which fits his character profile within
the One Act. Raoul has a more scattered and foolish mind. Carlotta uses the most unfamiliar words,
such as ingenue, which denoted a young female character who has endearing innocence or naivety
(Christine). This also fits with her characterization as she has the most experience of the characters in

Essay On Texas Elections
Texas Elections When it is around time for elections, signs around the neighborhood will start
appearing to tell people to vote for them. This occurs mainly around the time of the primaries. The
primaries occur every even year and they exist to elect state positions. Meaning who represents
someone in the districts may change drastically or stay about the same. In simplest terms, the primary
election exists to narrow down the amount of people running in the general election. Sometimes if the
results are too close, a runoff will occur in between the primary and general election. 23 of these have
yet to happen. The 2018 Texas primaries happened earlier this year on March 6th and the results have
been released. The voter turnout, the results, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

results; Beto O Rourke got 60 percent while the other candidates got less than 30. For the U.S house,
Louie Gohmert (republican) got 88.3 percent and Shirley J. McKellar got 61 percent. Not very many
went for the comptroller position, in fact for republicans Glenn Hegar was the only one who ran. Only
2 ran on the democratic side and Joi Chevalier had 51.9 percent of the votes. For the Governor
position Greg abbot got 90 percent and Lupe Valdez got 40 percent. The lieutenant position also did
not have very many runners; 2 voted on each side. The lead for democratic was Mike Collier with 52.4
percent; the lead for the republican was Dan Patrick with 76.0 percent. For the agriculture
commissioner no one ran except for Kim Olson, and the republican who won was Sid Miller with 55.8
percent. There were a few district positions that ended up having a runoff. District 3, district 5, district
7 are just a few examples of many. There are other positions that went for running that are not listed

The Girl With Cobwebs Analysis
The past four papers that we, as class, read and discussed have all focused on people with a dark and
gloomy past. The story about the girl with a zipper in her throat conveys a lot of meaning through the
figurative language the author included in her writing. A girl with cobwebs in her throat has a hard
time communicating her past and feelings due to the cobwebs blocking sounds from exiting her vocal
cords. The conception of having cobwebs in a person s throat is fictitious, but the author used cobwebs
in her writing to symbolize her dark past. The cobwebs in her throat were unreachable, but the doctor
placed a zipper in her throat for ease of accessibility to manage them. He gave her control over her
problem through an evaluation session as doctors don t conventionally add zippers to peoples throats.

Cobwebs form in corners that are too far to clean regularly and only get worse over time until you
personally clean them. She cleans the cobwebs from her throat by regularly visiting the psychologist s
office, but this time, he tells her there is a permanent solution to her problem, he tells her to find love.
I also believe the zipper is a symbol for medicine as the only realistic option that can clean stress and
sadness due to past emotional trauma is drugs. Drugs, although they make a person temporarily feel
better, only cause worse trauma when the high goes down. Most prescriptions written by psychiatrists
are drugs that trigger high levels of endorphin and leave a person with lower levels of endorphin then
before after the high is down, and this causes the girl to seek love as a permanent solution. The girl s
past is dark and shadowy because her problems often prevent her from living her life. If her problems

¨ The Outsiders movie and novel are both very adventurous and extraordinary. They are very similar in
many different ways. However, they are also very different from each other. The movie and novel
share similar qualities. For example, they both have the same deaths that take place at the same
organized time. Ponyboy, Sodapop and Darry s parents die first, then Bob, lastly Johnny and Dally.
When Johnny and Ponyboy killed Bob, the movie and novel both had the same solution. When they

The Pros And Cons Of Determinism
No human can survive without water due to the fact that without water, a person will die from
dehydration, but how do humans know we will die without water? Simple there have been several
incidences in the past of people dying from a lack of water. As a result, humans drink water so they do
not die. In the study of metaphysics, determinism is a view of freedom and moral responsibility which
explains that a person s actions are determined from previous events, and humans do not have free
will. A common phrase people use is you learn from your mistakes , which makes perfect sense. A
mistake was made in the past, and it is not made in the future given similar circumstances. Aileen
Wuornos is a real life example of somebody who had a horrifying past, and as a result, acted violently.

Metaphysics also poses two more views on freedom and moral responsibility: libertarianism and
compatibilism. Libertarianism explains that previous events do not determine a person s actions, and
that all humans have free will. Compatibilism is a mix of libertarianism and determinism, stating that
humans are determined by previous events, but have free will. Ultimately, determinism is the view
that is the most logical because many people can relate to it due to their previous experiences.
To begin, people who are not determinists will argue that people do have free will. A common
criticism for determinism involves the human consciousness: Consciousness is not a material thing,
even if it is dependent on the physical brain, and thus is not bound by the laws of physics. (Eric
Wayne). Due to the fact that an individual s thoughts cannot be observed with the five senses, then the
consciousness of every individual is different. To

Essay On The Voting Rights Act Of 1965
The voting rights act of 1965 was designed to prohibit discrimination based on race, and requires
certain jurisdictions to prove bilingual assistance to language minority voters. The act banned the use
of literacy tests, provided for federal oversight of voter registration in areas where less than 50 percent
of the nonwhite population had not registered to vote. Still voting rights gave African American voters
the legal means to challenge voting restrictions and vastly improved voter turnout. In Mississippi
alone, voter turnout among blacks increased from 6 percent in 1964 to 59 percent in 1969. When the
law was first passed, they made the blacks take a test to be able to vote. (history.com). Since 1965 the

Native Americans and Asian Americans voters in the west did the same. Even after enactment of the

people of color from voting, including literacy tests and poll taxes which most blacks could not afford.

Specifically, you need to make sure that you keep the brake friction surfaces clean. If any
contaminates get on the friction material, you may end up needing to completely replace the friction
material if the contaminates cannot be removed.
If you get oil or grease on the drum friction surface, try first to wipe it off with a rag dipped in brake
parts cleaner. If any contaminates are stuck on the friction surface, you may be able to remove them
with some fine sandpaper and a soft cloth.
#4 Don t Forget To Lubricate The Backing Plates
Finally, when you install the drum brake shoes, you need to make sure that the knuckles the drum
brake shoes rest on are well lubricated. You ll want to clean the area first with a cloth and possible
some brake parts cleaner. Then you will want to apply white lithium grease to the knuckles the shoes
rest on. This will ensure that the shoes are able to move properly when you installed them.
Working on drum brakes requires a lot of the same skills and knowledge that you used when you
worked on disc brakes. However, the type brake systems are not identical. Keep in mind the tips above
when you work on your disc brake

Economic recession in the UK
When the UK economy is doing well, its pound sterling is strong. However, having a strong pound

Law Enforcement Lessons Learned Essay
One of the the best lessons learned from history for today s practice of law enforcement intelligence is
the necessity of obeying the law and procedures as in addition to corruption and a lack of incentive to
do things by the book many officers lacked the wherewithal to make a difference in their jurisdiction.
After much public outcry we are now able rely more on today s law enforcement as they are placed
under strict management and are regularly evaluated to ensure consistency and reduce bias from the
system. This leads into another lesson with involves respecting people s rights, with great power
comes great responsibility as they say, officers are often tasked to respond to calls for service, order
maintenance, etc. which involves many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason is improving methods of data collection, processing, and reporting, as in the past law
enforcement were trained to react to crime, so even if a the idea of regularly documenting all
information is brought up many officers lack the experience and the guidance to gather and process
the information that they find. Unfortunately it takes a string of tragedies that could have been
prevented through threat based intelligence prompt more security policies to be passed, but at least
now many law enforcement departments have more resources they use to guide them. Lastly is the
lesson about sharing intelligence, many law enforcement departments were hesitant to share classified
information as it would perhaps add likely so much more to their already stressful workload and the
possible repercussions of displaying evidence of misidentification and mismanagement. However in
the wake of past tragedies that resulted from the failure to provide the intelligence it had become more
apparent that it would be in everyone s best interest to open up more channels of communication.
While there are other lessons we can learn from history I feel that these are the four main ideas that
most people will agree that law enforcement should adhere

the back order status. There should be also an address check confirmation matched against the USPS
national address label database to make sure the address is correct before shipping items, because if
the items are shipped to the wrong address, then it will cost the company assets and time.
Main Reasons Why Checking for Errors is Important
The main reason of checking for errors in an activity diagram is to recognize any errors and to make
sure that the requirements are fully met. Another important motive checking for errors is to check for
error that might cause problems when there is an issue during a life cycle transaction. Having a
working method to check for errors could possibly prompt to massive cost savings as well as better
and efficient products. According to Cebollero, M., Natarajan, J., Coles, M. (2015), checking for
errors in the system design will eventually protect both the business and the customer. It is also
important to have a cancellation error handling message in place. Without including a cancellation
condition, it may lead to constant changes and will necessitate re design of some mechanisms of error
handling considerations at a later point of time.

It is said that during the Song Dynasty (960 1127 AD) the Hakka military brought the Fan tzi kung fu
system into the Fujian region. Fan tzi (Tumbling or Eight Flash Boxing) is recognized by its compact,
short hand striking methods for which many southern systems are well known.
Subsequently, during the Qing Dynasty (1644 1912 AD), the Chu family martial arts were brought to
Fujian as well, which eventual evolved into the Southern Mantis style. As we can see throughout this
nine hundred year period, the Hakka were already starting to influence the martial arts in the southern
region. The preponderance of Hakka Kuen is said to have been influenced by Gee Sin Sim See who

no longer tolerated however, since Mao s troops knew little about the Hakka masters, they weren t
persecuted and were able to continued teaching underground. A number of years after outlawing the
fighting arts the government realized that it may have acted in haste and risked losing a good part of
their history and culture by banning martial arts. They decided to allow kung fu, but only the forms

techniques were not taught as they didn t want to take a chance on any uprisings if the people acquired

Selling Violent Video Games to Minors, Is It Good?
In the year 1972, something happened that would forever change
the world of home entertainment and personal enjoyment. The first
video game to break through the confines of reality, was a game
called Pong. From Pong, to Call of Duty, people come a long way in
the world of video games. However, some games have struck up
controversy with their gratuitous violence and their questionable
motives. It has become so controversial, that it has been taken
up and noticed by our own government. So, what s the problem with
violent video games, and how can the next generation be protected, so
that they will not get influenced by these games in real life?
So how did all of this begin? Let us go back to a time where
change needed to happen to the flow of digital
entertainment. In the year 1993, a new arcade cabinet just
made it s way to the arcades and is getting played more and more
every single day. That game was called Mortal Kombat. Mortal Kombat
is a fighting game on the arcade that would soon debut on home
consoles. But that sounds very similar to Street Fighter 2 , some people may ask right now, what was
so special about Mortal Kombat?
Well there were 2 very distinct differences between these games.
First were the designs of the characters, and the second(and most
obvious) was the ABSOLUTELY GORY FATALITIES! This quote from

Term Limits Analysis
The Supreme Court is a critical part of our government. As such, we need the very best and most
capable judges to serve on the bench of the court. Unfortunately, there have been several cases where
judges have stayed on the court way to long. For example, Philip Cattan fell asleep during a rape trial,
and was allowed to remain a judge . (Daily Mail, 2016). Therefore, term limits are a good idea
because it would reduce the impact of judges medical issues on the court, changing judges more often
would result in judges who are more in touch with society, and the majority of people in the United
States support the idea of the term limits for the Supreme Court. Having term limits would be an
excellent idea because it would reduce medical issues that would impact the work of the Supreme
Court. This is why many people support the idea of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Democrats, and independents support term limits. As a matter of fact, John Fund states that A Gallup
survey from Jan. 2013 found that 751% of Americans including huge majorities of Republicans,
Democrats, and independents support term limits on congress . (John Fund, 2014) Having term limits
is just a great idea. Term limits are not only good for the Supreme Court, but also us. It would be
reducing medical issues, allowing younger judges who are in touch with society take charge, and also
it would be taking the peoples vote who support term limits. Judges who are in touch with society
should be allowed to take charge and make better laws. Most of the United States citizens would be

80s Research Paper
Hey guys, Sophie Jeffrey here for Channel [V]. Welcome back to another segment of Songs of My
Generation . This week we ll take a look back at the totally tubular 80s. The 80s was full of many
things: Rubik s Cubes, Wrestling, Pac Man, Lip Smackers, Nintendo, skateboarding, roller skating,
Horror films, the BratPack, connect four, Tupperware parties, pop rocks, Weird Al Yankovic, who s
currently making a comeback FYI... and the list goes on! Horror films made their way onto the scene
in the 80s with thousands flocking to movie theatres to see the latest scary flick. The 80 s are to thank
for some of the popular fashion trends we still see today: RayBans, Doc Martens, bright colours and
denim jackets, but while some of the fashion trends found in the 80s soared, others, like leg warmers,
spandex, shoulder pads, parachute pants, mullets, perms, sweaters around the waist, big hair bows, all
definitely proved that with the good always comes the bad. This was a decade full of new and
advancing technology: out with the old and in with the new! The 80s said goodbye to cassette tapes
and boom boxes and hello to compact discs and Sony Walkman s, taking the first step in redefining
the music industry. Ladies and Gentlemen, Rock and Roll, these were the first words uttered on what
was to become one of the most iconic and popular TV channels, MTV. It would continue to dominate
for the next 33 years following its launch on August 1st 1981. MTV changed the way people viewed

Police Corruption: A Perspective View Into the
Definition, Cause, Harm

December 17, 2011
Thesis Statement
Corruption in law enforcement is not victimless and creates a negative perception of the United States
legal system.
Introduction
There are few professions in the United States that are entrusted with protecting society s safety and
system of laws that have been established throughout the course of American history. One of those
professions is that of a police officer. It is an admirable calling for an individual to deal with criminals
and place themselves in harm s way on a daily basis. It is certainly not a job that can be done by
everyone and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may appear at first glance to be a matter of such a fundamental nature as not to deserve specific
mention in an agency policy. Certainly, police officers are as subject to the law as any other person.
But reality dictates and history has shown that some officers, whether through misguided zeal or for
other reasons, may come to view themselves and their police colleagues as exempt from the law on a
general, selective, or situational basis. This element of the policy is intended to stress the importance
of the rule of law for all officers and to hold each officer accountable for any legal wrongdoing. (para.
4)
When police officers choose a path that is immoral or unethical, they are labeled as being corrupt. The
media can play a significant role in the public s opinion of police officers and this idea was supported
by Gallagher, Maguire, Mastrofski, and Reisig in a 2001 report on the public image of police when
they stated In the final analysis, it is not unreasonable to suppose that people exposed to negative mass
media images will have lower evaluations of the police (p. 37). There is a lack of state and federal
laws that specifically address police corruption as a whole and Neild (2007) addressed this by saying
It is important that national laws and institutional norms governing policing address issues of
corruption explicitly, and make it clear that

Summary Of Wars Of The Roses By Alison Weir
In this book, Alison Weir tells the events and people behind what she describes as the first Wars of the
Roses , which covers the roots of one of England s bloodiest civil wars and traces its path through the
reign of Edward IV. The war between the houses of Lancaster and York for the throne of England was
characterized by treachery, deceit and at St Albans, Blore Heath and Towton, some of the bloodiest
and most dramatic battles on England s soil. Weir is of the opinion that the conflict began with the
horrible reign of Richard II, historians disagree over this statement. The Wars of the Roses are one of
the most confusing periods in English history. From the origins in the rivalries between Edward III s
children to the final resolution with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Case Study Of Pvss
DISCUSSION
Since most institutions have limited experience with PVS, the data presented are useful because of the
large cohort of infants with primary PVS amassed for comparison. While the present data suggest that
primary PVS during infancy has a poor prognosis, lack of harmonized collection, entry criteria,
definitions, and surveillance protocols across studies limits interpretation. Given the large variability
and widely ranging heterogeneity of the studies from which the data were drawn, pooled results
should be interpreted with caution. However, the data help to identify sources of variability in results
across studies, represent the best available evidence for clinical care and family centered counseling,
and can be used to inform ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Echocardiography can underestimate the degree of PVS, because blood flow is redistributed toward
the less obstructed portions of the lung, resulting in decreased flow through the stenotic vein.81
Alternatively, the pulmonary veins may have been normal initially, and the stenosis developed over
time.3,5 While most studies continue to use echocardiography as the primary modality in the
diagnosis of PVS8, potential advantages of cardiac CT or MRI include better delineation of
pulmonary venous anatomy and blood flow distribution.79 To answer questions on the timing and
nature of disease progression, more uniform methods of diagnosis surveillance, with pre specified cut
off values for defining PVS, are needed.1,79,82
Evidence on longer term benefits of treatments for primary PVS is lacking.1,41,64,83 85 Poor
outcomes following intervention have led some health care providers to recommend against treatment,
particularly in the setting of multi vessel disease.86 While we observed no differences in outcomes

of intervention, and inconsistency in the completeness of data reported among studies, limit data

Executive Summary Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy, a luxury goods provider is looking to expand their
brand dominance in Asia. In order to expand successfully LVMH must evaluate challenges that may
arise and get in the way of their successful expansion. In the Asian market, LVMH must deal with
political and cultural uncertainties, the threat of counterfeit products, and the increased cost of
products in Asia compared to France.

In Japan, the costs of LVMH handbags cost approximately 40% more than in France. This started a
growing market to distribute bags from France to Japan for resale at a cheaper price. Arnault believes
that the producers of LVMH s goods need to be unrestrained by financial matters in order to produce
extremely high quality products. To keep the brand management of highly priced and high quality
goods, LVMH needs to expand to the younger new money of the Asian market. The high quality is
also a result of the mentality that Made in France is perceived as high western quality. LVMH does not
want to lower the labor costs because there would be a similar direction of the quality. Finally, LVMH
must protect its brand against counterfeit and dilution. With the recent expansion of the internet and
globalization, availability of products has grown to new heights. In order to keep the brand
management that LVMH desires, it must tightly control the availability so not to dilute the market and
lower the perception of their brand. Also with the increased knowledge and resources of
counterfeiting, LVMH needs to keep a grasp on illegal goods. Not only are the goods becoming
increasingly difficult to distinguish real from fake, but the channels of distribution of counterfeit
products have increased. Europe customs believe that 75% of counterfeit luxury goods originated in
China or Hong Kong. Online stores such as EBay also have seen a large amount

The Industrial Revolution During The 19th Century
During the late 1800s and early 1900s, the Industrial Revolution began in Great Britain, and the
working class worked tirelessly to produce products. Textiles were made faster and cheaper, food was
more abundant, and the standard of living increased for many people. To industrialize Great Britain,
laborers worked in factories and mills under horrible conditions. Despite attempts by Parliament to
address problems with the factories working conditions through the passage of new legislation, their
effort was inadequate and deplorable working conditions remained.
Before the 19th century, the cottage industry flourished. All business and manufacturing was carried

The growing businesses put the small in home workers out of work, giving them no choice but to get a
job in a factory. The working conditions in factories and mills were much different than the ones in the
cottage industry. Instead of working at an individual pace in their home, the workers were suddenly
expected to work in onerous conditions. The Factory Act of 1819 was one of the first attempts to
control child labor, but the act was not effective. Years later, the Factory Act of 1833 was introduced,
and the new law prohibited laborers under age 9 and set the maximum number of hours for children
based on age. The Ten Hours act of 1847 limited women and children to 10 hours in the factory. These
laws were meant to change society and the working conditions, but the lack of a strong penalty for
factory owners gave them no motivation to follow the laws. In some cases, there was little to no
legislation on some of the deplorable working conditions, and there was inadequate control over the
health of laborers One of the most recognized conditions of the Industrial Revolution is the long
hours. In most factories, children from as early as age six to adult women and men were required to
work 12 or more hours six days a week. The exhausting work caused the workers to be prone to
sickness and to be weaker. In most cases, workers would fall asleep while working, causing them to
receive injuries and make mistakes in their work. If caught sleeping while

Self Strengthening Movement Essay
China s Self Strengthening Movement (1860 1894) is often regarded as a failure. To what extent do
you agree with this assessment?
Why are the Western nations small and yet strong? What are we large and yet weak? We must search
for the means to become their equal ... At first they may take the foreigners as their teachers and
models; then they may come to the same level and be their equals; finally they may move ahead and
surpass them. Herein lies the way to self strengthening. 1
Following Feng Guifen s [the innovator the movement] view on Self Strengthening, why then did the
the movement fail? The period of 1860 through to 1864, between the end of the Third War with the

Along with Prince Gong s active role in seeking to improve China s diplomatic relations and advance
the military 11, the dominant leaders of modernization sought to take the foreigners as their teachers
and models; then they may come to the same level and be their equals; finally they may move ahead
and surpass them . Their ideas were supported by a number of provincial governors and scholar
officials who began to seek out an effective path for reform 12. These efforts would become known as
the Self Strengthening Movement. The leading theorist of the movement was the scholar official Feng
Guifen who believed in order to strengthen the Qing state, traditional Confucian culture and
institutions must be preserved and supplemented by Western weapons and technological learning .
Although the reforms proposed modernization, a cultural change was needed for it to truly be in effect.
With the establishment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Zongli Yamen), Zeng advised to send
students to Western countries for technical training and in result a mission was sent to the United
States of America the following year. However after a few years the students were instructed to return
to China claiming that they spent to much time on Western learning and not enough on their Chinese
studies. Although, the officials most likely feared that the students were learning democratic or
republican ideas 13

Narrative Essay On The Glass Castle
As flames engulfed her dress, they burned down her stomach as she screamed for help. This was the
first memory Jeannette Walls had in The Glass Castle . The plot of the story reveals her childhood of
poverty as she moved around the country with her delusional family. Her alcoholic father and
mentally ill mother created a very different lifestyle for their children, and raised them like no other.
The unique plot, strong characters, and many settings make the novel successful. In this
autobiography, she perseveres through tough times and leads the reader down the path she took to
adulthood.
In her younger years, Jeannette was an smart and imaginative child. At first, she enjoyed moving
around, and had a lot of faith in her father, which created a good relationship between them. All we
had to was find gold, once we d struck it rich, he d [Rex] start work on our Glass Castle (Walls, 25).
The tremendous faith that she has in Rex creates a strong bond because she is the only family member
who trusts his ideas. Unfortunately, he is a raging alcoholic who can t hold a job, so most of his
promises are broken. As Jeannette gets older, he lets her down more and more. One time he brought
her to a bar where she was then sexually violated. When the two had a talk after, he said I knew you
could handle yourself (Walls, 213,) instead of defending her. It was upsetting to watch their
relationship grow apart and to see how poorly he provided for his family, yet they still loved him.

Iceland Is The Best Country
Finding the perfect place to live can be difficult, however your search can come to an end simply by
looking at a different country, Iceland. The best country to live in is Iceland because of how safe it is
and the natural beauty of the whole country. Iceland is located between the coast of Greenland and
Norway. Iceland has a population of around 323,000 citizens; most of the population lives in or
around their capital. There are a couple specific factors, based on practicality and aesthetics, on why
Iceland is known for the best country in the world. The first main factor of why Iceland is the best
country to live is based on the practicality, Iceland is the safest country throughout the world (Morin).
There are two main reasons that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Between how the citizens act to their comfort zones to the statistics on the homicide rates, there is still
the popular topic about guns and how they cause violence all over. In Iceland more than a third of the
population has a fire arm, and even though that is a majority of the population when a crime does
happen in Iceland it is not due to the fire arms (Llana). Iceland has strict restrictions on who is allowed
to carry, and those who are eligible have to go through several tests. Gun control is just one example
of how Iceland is using rules and restrictions on issues that could turn in to a problem. By taking the
issues at hand before they become a problem, they are thinking practical to prevent their country from
violence and crime making their country the safest in the world. The second factor that makes Iceland
the safest is militarism, which is the level of the military. Iceland military is different than some other
countries, it has no standing military force ( CIA ?). Even though the country does not have a standing
military, they are still apart of the NATO, North Atlantic Treaty Organization. This helps protect their
country from war and other terrorist attaches, they can lean on the coastguard if they need to (Morin).
Most would think that with no military that the country would fall apart and be in war all the time, but
with the way that Iceland runs their country that does

  • 2. Twelfth Night Madness Madness and foolishness make many appearances in Twelfth Night. Feste, the jester in count Olivia s house states in act 3 scene 1, foolery, sir, does walk about the ord like the sun; it shines everywhere. The first appearance of madness in the play is when Orsino, the Duke of Illyria, is reciting a poem about love. Orsino, instead of showing madness as insanity or a mental illness he shows it as mad with love. Some have made inferences that the images Orsino creates with the poem is him hallucinating. Orsino in scene 1 act 1 recites, If music be the food of love, play on; Give me excess of it, that, surfeiting, The appetite may sicken, and so die. The letter is a love poem to Malvolio, claiming she loves him but wishes to keep it a secret. the letter also asks him to wear yellow stockings and be rude to the servants, and smile all constantly. Because he thinks it is Olivia he promises to follow her request. When Malvolio encounter Olivia following the request of the prankster she thinks he s gone mad, Malvolio says Remember who commended thy yellow stockings, . Olivia then orders toby and maria to take care of him. When Maria and Toby are to take care of him they start calling him a madman possessed by the devil. Maria, Toby, and the others have locked Malvolio in a small dark chamber and Feste acts like a priest visiting the madman Malvolio. Feste soon realizes the torture they are putting Malvolio through and gives him resources to write a letter. • 3. Cushing s Disease Introduction Cushing s syndrome(CS) results from prolonged exposure to excess free glucocorticoids. Around 10 15 per million people are affected by CS every year(1). Most patients with CS have an Adrenocorticotrophic(ACTH) secreting pituitary adenoma, which is otherwise known as Cushing s disease. Other causes of CS include adrenal tumours, ectopic ACTH secreting tumours and exogenous steroid use. Except for exogenous steroid use, the other mentioned causes of CS can all be caused by genetic mutations. Currently, very little is known about the prevalence of genetic mutations in CS. This essay will discuss the key genetic mutations that cause CS and explore the advantages of identifying the mutations with regards to clinical management of CS. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Menin acts as an adaptor protein regulating multiple pathways involved in differentiation, DNA repair, proliferation and epigenetic modification. It is also expressed in all adult tissues which strongly indicates a key role in cell cycle regulation. This is emphasised by the fact that MEN1 knockout mice(12) die in utero with neural, hepatic and cardiac abnormalities. However, there is still a mystery to why the absence of a functioning ubiquitous protein only causes proliferation in endocrine tissue. This is partially answered by the mechanism of menin. In p27kip and p18ink4c double knockout mice(13), the mice develop parathyroid and pituitary adenomas. In other words, a very similar picture to MEN1. This is highly suggestive of menin working upstream of other cell cycle regulators, such as p27kip and p18ink4c. It also indicates that in endocrine cells there are no mechanisms to compensate for deficiency in functional menin, whilst in other tissue types can compensate. This explains why menin deficiency seems to result in endocrine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Day Late And A Dollar Short Summary One thing I do know about men and kids is that they always come back. They may be a day late and a dollar short, but they always come back. Viola, A Day Late and A Dollar Short As the title is mentioned in the book for the first time it sums up and foreshadows the events in the book. A day late and a dollar short means a missed opportunity and also being unprepared at the time. Against all that Viola, the narrator, believes that men and kids always come back. Summary Viola the mother of four children works to put her family back together in the short time she has left. In the hospital from an asthma attack she comes to realize that she won t survive the next asthma attack she has. Instead of telling this to her family, she keeps it a secret to keep them from worrying about her. • 5. The Killer Angels By John M. Skipper Essay History 1301 John M. Skipper The Killer Angels is a historic backstory of the days leading up to the Civil War. The story is told from multiple viewpoints including Robert E. Lee, James Longstreet, George Meade, and Winfield Scott Hancock. It is mentioned the Army of Northern Virginia is moving behind the Blue Ridge Mountains, and that the Army of Potomac is also moving, but is traveling very slow. This is one of the characteristics which plagued them throughout the war. Shaara gives insight to the background of both Armies. He described the Confederates as a unified group with soldiers of the same background, while the Union is the exact opposite. Its men are very divided soldiers fighting for unification. There is one similarity between the two sides which stands out more than all the others; both sides are ready for the final showdown. Shaara gives insight into this by hinting towards the conflict, yet never telling the reader directly. This causes the reader to be drawn deeper into the story anticipating what will happen next. There are illustrations showing movement of the Confederate and the Union armies, an epilogue, and an afterword stating the events after the Battle of Gettysburg. In the foreword, Sharra tells the reader the purpose of the book is to educate the reader on the history of the battle, but also give insight into the soldier s thoughts. Sharra also writes that out of all the historic writings about the battle, he chose to use letters, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Inquisitions In Octavia Butler s The Parable Of The Talents Beginning in the 12th century, in the middle of the Medieval era, just centuries after the fall of the greatest empire of classical history, the Roman Empire, with the invasion of religious frustration swept across much of Europe. These various inquisitions caused a quake of fear for anyone that was suspected of betraying the Catholic Church and the Vatican. Though it was not just religious heresy and other religious groups, it was also Pagans, Jews, Hindus, Muslims, Atheists, Freethinkers, Philosophers, Humanists, and many others. Burning them at the stake, and accusing them of heresy, sending them to trial, and inevitably their death. These various inquisitions of and the protestant reformation were known as one of humanities darkest events in history. People lived in fear of accusation, death, and the ways of this era; the world was living in a shadow of fear, thousands dying by knife, ax, and fire. Over the course of 500 years, religious conflict was really a widespread issue and yet tolerated by many. There are many similarities between Octavia Butler s book, The Parable of the Talents and the various inquisitions of human history, and through the persecution and conversation, of religious groups, the religious chaos on this time, and how Lauren s character is similar to other religious icons during these times there is evidence that Butler s novel could be an inquisition. • 7. Horned Lizard Essay In the article about How the Horned Lizard Got its horns the main hypothesis proposed by Young et. al. (2004) is how horned lizards used their horns to protect themselves from predators and how selection favors the length of their horns (Young et. al. 2004). The thing that the researchers wanted to test is if the length of the horns made an impact on the survivability of the horned lizards (Young et. al. (2004)). They tested this by measuring the length of the horned lizards from a group of living lizards and skulls of the deceased (Young et. al. 2004). According to the data the horned lizards the lived where the ones with the longer horns in contrast to the deceased carcasses which had the shorter in length horns (Young et. al. 2004). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... al. 2004, (Agosta et. al. 2004) critique the article by stating that there was not sufficient information that was provided for the evidence to claim that the horned lizards were adapting. The points Agosta et. al. 2004 thought that Young et. al. addressed was evidence that selection has occurred on the trait in question (Young et. al. 2004). An example of this would be when Young et. al. talked about how the horned lizards with the shorter length were least favored by selection therefore lizards with longer horns would have greater fitness (Young et. al. 2004). On the other hand, according to Agosta et. al. claim that Young et. al. failed to present three major points. The three major points are the existence of a functional explanation for putative fitness differences associated with the trait , evidence for heritability of phenotype differences corresponding to trait variation , and knowledge of phylogeny such that putative adaptations can be shown to have originated in selective regimes in which they are currently advantageous (Agosta et. al. 2004). • 8. The Powerful Owl Analysis [is what I believe the purpose of the author in creating this poem= my thesis?] Christine Townend explores the magical nature of the Powerful Owl and its protectiveness of its home against man. [Overall tone and atmosphere] The owl describes the power and respected statues he holds in nature, which is also known to humans. It then reiterates what seems to be dark powers it holds, (in the last two stanzas?) directing it to humans, in order to protect its home from them. The Powerful Owl establishes to the reader, humans, and the authority that he carries to create a fearful image. This is seen in the first line the night proceeds when I call for it ; the use of the imperative call gives off the dominance of the owl over nature. The word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anthropomorhism creates the sense the owl is directing it personally to the reader, to humans, through this supreme voice aimed to frighten humans and its power. By the end of the poem the Powerful Owl undermines its confidence and determination that no house will rise where this banksia stands except my own . The owl comments no house will rise the word no emphasis its confidence and the guard to ensure that no human house will be built at his home, the banksia. Any images of the powerful owl as an evil is undermined angels assemble under my wings . The alliteration of a brightens and lifts the mood which has been created in the rest of the poem suggesting the dark atmosphere was only created to ward off the humans from destroying its home. It is the angels which assemble under my [the owls] wing not devils! Angles being an representation of goodwill comes to support the Powerful Owl, reinforcing its as an animal whom even angels support. This possibly suggests that the humans may be the devils, even to the extent a Powerful Owl would require the support of angels. The underlying message of the poem form the owl to the humans is revealed in the final stanzas, the tone created through the poem is used as a protective barrier and to create awareness and fearful of the power the owl holds, to stop humans from building ... • 9. Intertextuality In Walang Forever Analyzing Genres and Intertextuality: A Critical Paper on the Film Walang Forever Genre Analysis The genre analysis approach in analyzing media texts helps classify and breakdown the different genres that were recognized by the viewers as well as created by the movie makers. These genres offer satisfaction to their target audience brought by the pleasure of having predicted what was supposed to happen during the film. Genre analysis also identifies whether there is intertextuality present in relation to other films with the same genre. The recognition of these genres and having identified their importance within the media text will help the audience to relate the different cinematic elements of the film and gain more understanding of the ideas that the media text wanted to convey. Genre Analysis and Ideology Having mentioned that the recognition of genres within a media text offer pleasure or satisfaction to its audience, it is implied that genre analysis is also related to the different ideologies offered by the media text since there is a momentary satisfaction gained from having achieved the goal of identifying the genres and predicting the possible outcome of the media text. • 10. Carlotta Character Traits Characterization: Christine This adaptation portrays Christine as ditzy, but not stupid. She has no idea that Raoul has fallen in love with her and sees him only as a friend. The conception of having cobwebs in a person s throat is fictitious, but the author used cobwebs in her writing to symbolize her dark past.
