LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like
Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems

3. Giacomo Puccini s Madama Butterfly
Madama Butterfly, written by Giacomo Puccini, tells the tragic tale of Cio Cio San and her
American lover through music and lyrics in Italian. The production uses visual imagery to connect
with the audience across language barriers and to create a stunning picture. One example of this
visual imagery is the use of Bunraku and puppetry to portray certain characters. The use of Bunraku
for the child created a lifelike portrayal but could not provide full emotional depth, and the other
puppets towards the beginning of the operafelt unnecessary and confusing. The child puppet
moved in a way that was close to the way and actual child moves, and the realism of this
movement helped me keep the idea of the child in my head as I watched the show. I was able to
ignore the three people controlling the child partly because of what they wore, the dark and veiled
costumes concealing their identities, and partly because the movement and actions looked very
real. When the child walked, the perceived weight shift was correct, and this helped create the
illusion that Cio Cio San had a child with her onstage that was her own. The ability to have a
portrayal of a child onstage helped the emotional connection because it gave... Show more content

The child, at first, was believable and enriching to the story, however, as time went on, it became
more of a hindrance because there was a character onstage who could only sit and walk but could
not emote. The child is a central struggle for Cio Cio San, and it was less emotional watching her
connecting with an inanimate object. I understand the need for a puppet to portray this role
because it is a hard piece for a young child to play a part in, but connecting and understanding the
bond between Cio Cio San and her son was hard and felt more forced than

5. An Argument In Favor Of Animal Testing
Imagine: you re in a room less than a foot long. There s nothing inside this room, just you. There
are tubes in your mouth and nose as chemicals get pumped into your system; there s a schedule
for you of when you will eat, sleep and get physically tortured. These tortures can vary from
being forced to inhale toxic fumes or be fed poison with corrosive chemicals rubbed on your skin
and eyes. Imagine living like this for five minutes; now make it a day and now for one whole year.
To keep it simple, you re born to be an experiment. You don t have a choice as you were
specifically made just to suffer cruel experiments that some don t even have a purpose for the
world. This is just a small snippet of how it would feel like if you were an animal ... Show more

There are many other remedies that can be done such as blood transfusion and organ transplant. A
reason why they would seem animal testing as acceptable is that it would be less cruel to test on a
animal than a human.
Another argument that disagrees with my point is that animal testing does not benefit humans
alone but the animals itself. For example cats are treated with Feline Leukemia and this prolongs
the life of domestic animals and wildlife when needed to be treated. From this example it is obvious
that animals are also benefitting themselves.
Although animals benefit humans and themselves I don t see the problem with testing on one
human then thousands of innocent animals, a life is a life so if it s one versus a thousand what
is the problem with sacrificing one human that has the same functions as others? Again humans
simply choose animals over themselves as animals are viewed to have a lower quality of life,
however every life is precious and when we choose to end lives or even our own that does not
make you more human or use the excuse of because we are humans and we need to start
appreciating life as well as others. There is simply no excuse to test on

6. Kambili Change in Character
Literature Essay Kambili change in character
The novel Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie tells a story of how two Nigerain
children rebelled against their very father. For these children to end up rebelling against their father
they must first bring about a change in themselves, they must become more mature, more
responsible and not so dependent on their father. Kambili is one of those children that does go
through a considerable change in her character, she reaches maturity. In fact this novelis a
bildungsroman which is a story about a character self development, her change.

another person who changed Kambili. Father amadi is an encouraging person who makes
Kambili change. This is shown when Amadi manages to convince Kambili to run after him! In
fact she says i had smiled, run, laughed , 3 things she had never done before. Because of the fact
that Kambili starts to idealize and fall in love with Amadi that she starts to look up to Amadi and
not to her father anymore! Father Amadi can be considered as one of her only friends! Aunty
Ifeoma also helped kambili become less dependant on papa, this is shown when she takes the
schedules from Kambili and Jaja and for the first time in their life Kambili and Jaja are free to do
what they like which causes them to change.
This change and maturity in Kambili is later shown when she starts to defy papa. This is shown
when she steals the picture of papa Nnukwu and keeps it in her room and when she describes
Papa as a tall stranger ! However Kambili still remains loyal to her father and obeys him still, she
does not go to the extent and rebel totally against him, unlike Jaja. This also shows that she isn t
mature enough and therefore obeys her father and Jaja to an extent.
One can conclude that due to Papa strictness she had a restricted life where she

8. Baleen Whales Research Paper
Baleen whales are known as a whalebone. They also live in the Southern Hemisphere. The meaning
of Baleen is made out of keratin, the same protein that makes up our fingernails and hair. They
make up one of two whale suborders within the cetacean family.
Baleen whales are mammals, which means that they are warm blooded and breathe air using their
lungs. That sounds interesting considering that they live in ocean waters, but they have two
blowholes at the top of their body that allows them to breathe when they reach the surface of the
water. As mammals, they also give birth to a live animal, called a whalecalf. Unlike humans, who
can take around one year to learn how to walk, whale calves are born already able to swim.

Once relentlessly hunted by commercial industries for these products, cetaceans are now protected
by international law.
There are currently 86 recognized species of whales, dolphins, and porpoises. 14 are Mysticetes
or baleen whales. These whales feed using a filtering system made up of baleen plates, which
allow the whale to feed on large quantities of prey at once while filtering out sea water.
The baleen whales (Mysticeti) are characterized by baleen, a sieve like structure in the upper jaw
made of the tough, structural protein keratin. The baleen is used to filter plankton from the water.
Baleen whales are also characterized by two blowholes.
In terms of social structure, baleen whales are known to be quite solitary in nature often traveling
alone or in small groups.Communication among baleen whales involves loud low pitched moans
and whines, and physical gestures such as spy hopping, lob tailing, breaching and charging. In
spite of their enormous mass, baleen whales are able to leap completely out of the water.

9. The Best Cost Effective Stormwater Management
The easiest and most cost effective stormwater management has already been happening here in
the metro area, which is rain barrels and rain cisterns. The Polk Soil and Water Conservation
District, has fully indorsed the rain barrels and provides forms to order the rain barrels. They are
the easiest and most cost efficient way for property owners to divert their stormwaterrunoff.
The ease of Rain Barrels are that the rooftop downspouts are directed to a 55 gallon (usually)
barrel that collects rainwater and stores it until needed for a specific use, such as watering plants.
While Cisterns are normally an underground container or tank with a larger storage capacity than a
rain barrel, and that is used to supplement greywater needs (i.e. ... Show more content on

This does make cisterns more expensive, however, these cost would allow the house to use less
water, and would be able to pull in thousands of gallons of water away from the stormwater sewers.
In Chicago in 2009, there were over 2,220 rain barrels/downspout disconnections. This the
calculated would lead to over 8,281,000 gallons of stormwater were diverted from combined system
annually. This means that the city of Chicago was able to use these very simple and inexpensive
stormwater mitigation methods to greatly reduce the amount of stormwater that the city was
producing. Rain barrels and cisterns are a stormwater prevention system that the property owners in
the metro can and already have started to incorporate into their properties.
Green Roofs are primarily installed to reduce the amount of stormwater runoff and to protect water
quality. There are two main types of green roofs based on the plant material, extensive or intensive.
Extensive green roofs are characterized by lower weight, lower installation cost, lower plant
diversity, and minimal maintenance. Intensive green roofs are characterized by deeper soil and
greater weight, higher installation costs, increased plant diversity, and greater maintenance,
however, they are accessible to the public and provide green space for activities in an urban setting.
Green roofs provide many benefits for the urban landscape. They help reduce noise that is created
in the cities, filter out air pollutants

Donald Margolin vs Novelty Now Inc.
Donald Margolin is defendant and Novelty Now Inc is the plaintiff. In this specific court case, New
York doesn t have the jurisdiction to take the case because the three men (Chris, Matt, and Ian)
which are contracted through Novelty Now Inc. states that the suit before them has to be settled in
Florida. Although this would only stand if the defendant has never had any business with anyone in
the state of Florida per personal jurisdiction. Personal jurisdiction is the power of a court to hear
and determine a lawsuit involving a defendant s having some contact with the place where the court
is located (Per, 2008).
Personal jurisdiction isn t the only thing that the courts will look at it. They will also look at
minimum contacts. Minimum contact is a nonresident defendant with the forum state that is
sufficient for jurisdiction over the defendant to be proper. A lack of minimum contacts violates the
nonresident defendant s constitutional right to due process and offends traditional notions of fair
play and substantial justice (Inm, 1992) (Min, 2001 2016).
In the case Margolin vs Novelty Now Inc, Christ directed Novelty now to change their the main
ingredient for a no FDA approved ingredient. This case would be an intentional tort. Intentional torts
are defined as a civil wrong resulting from an intentional act committed by the person, property, or
economic interest of another. Intentional torts include assault, battery, conversion, false

Ten Care Tips for Your T Shirt Creations
You invested your time, your sweat, and your tears into creating the perfect t shirt creation. It

shirts are susceptible to fading, shrinking, cracking, graphic loss, etc. When you wear your shirts,
the sun, the sweat, and other elements speed the deterioration of your tee. Further, the way you
wash, dry and store your shirt plays a huge part in the life of your prized possession.
Thankfully, there are some things you can do to preserve your tee and lengthen its lifespan.
Consider these ten care tips:

T shirts that are not worn often should not be hung on a hanger. They should be folded and

At very least, they should be folded and kept on your shelf or in a dresser drawer.
9. Make a T shirt Folder. An ally in the fight to protect your shirts is the proper fold. You don t
want to run creases through your artwork. A shirt folder is a great way to quickly fold your
shirts in a proper manner. A folder can be purchased or made for a matter of cents from common
household materials (six pieces of 9x12 cardboard and a roll of duct tape). While cereal boxes are a
little thin, they are the right size.
Place the rectangles three wide by two deep about a quarter inch apart. Connect the panels with the
duct tape on the front and the back. The quarter inch of duct tape between the panels will act like
hinges, so make sure they are pressed together well. The folder is now complete.
Lay your shirt face down on the folder vertically with the neck to the top. Fold the right two panels
to the center. Leave the shirt, but pull the panels back. Repeat this move on the left. Fold the panel

18. The Importance Of Music Therapy
A bullet to the left of the brain almost caused Congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords, a permanent
speech imparity. Gabrielle experienced aphasia (a language disorder that stops communication), but
she participated in music therapy for healing. She learned how to think straightforwardly by
matching the lyrics of the song to the rhythm and the melody. In the right side of the brain, singing
abilities occur, but on the left side people can work around the injury by dropping the melody after
they sing their thoughts (Harvard). Eventually, due to this music therapyprocess, Gabrielle
recovered and got her speech ability back. Even though music is used everyday as entertainment, it
can also be used as a treatment option to help people. Music therapyhas been able to help people
communicate and it has recovered speech and hearing imparities. Music therapy is the use of music
elements by music therapist to help restore and maintain physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional
health. Music therapy opens a path of communication for people who have trouble communicating

such as with accuracy, accessibility, comprehensiveness, consistency.
Data accuracy means that it must be correct at all time, error free.
Data accessibility means should be easy to get a hold of at all time.
Data comprehensiveness means that all data must be updated and completed.
Data consistency means that all information within the document must be a reliable source of data.

21. How Did Charles Perkins Impact Australian Society
Charles Perkins played an extremely significant role in the struggle for rights and freedom of
Aboriginal people. He was born in 1936 and was an Australian Aboriginal activist, the first
Australian Aboriginal to graduate from university, and he also led the freedom ride in 1965. He
was a manager of the Foundation for Aboriginal Affairs, an organisation that took a key role in
getting a Yes vote for the 1967 referendum regarding Aboriginal rights. His controversial actions
allowed him to successfully reduce discrimination against aboriginals. He has also exposed the
discrimination and segregation that existed in Australian society, he then tried to educate the
Australian society to reduce racial discrimination and get greater equality or indigenous Australians.
Perkins was later elected as the deputy chairperson of the Australiaand Torres straight islander

23. Nanny Services Essay
Nanny services is a merit good, a socially desirable but often under provided good. In a free
perfect competition market structure of nanny services, market failure, the inability to recognise
allocative efficiency, arise as a positive externality of consumption. A positive externality of
consumption is when the consumption of a good provides social benefits that exceed the private
benefits enjoyed by a consumer. In [Figure 1] assuming ceteris paribus, private benefit is an
incentive for both demand and supply market forces within a free unregulated market, and
equilibrium will result as the quantity being Q market at the price of P market. The marginal social

There are various factors that determine the effectiveness of the imposition of a specific
subsidy. Ideally, the size of the specific subsidy is to be equivalent to the spill over benefits.
However, the extent of spill over benefits cannot be accurately measured. Therefore the
coincidence of marginal private cost curve and the marginal social cost curve is improbable. The
advantage of a specific subsidy is a greater quantity of nanny services can be produced, achieving
social optimum, at a relatively lower price. There are low socioeconomic status consumers with
low levels of income and poverty. Conscious or oblivious of the spill over benefits in the
consumption of nanny services, they are financially incapable to afford nanny services and are
excluded in the marginal private benefit curve. Therefore a specific subsidy, is inclusive of the
quantity demanded from low socioeconomic status consumers, encouraging and enabling them to
consume merit goods. The primary disadvantage of a specific subsidy is its opportunity cost.
Subsidising the nanny service market may deprive the opportunity of another market being
subsidised. Hypothetically, if the nanny service market was subsidised, the nanny service market is
developing efficiently at the expense of another market developing less or inefficiently. Another
disadvantage is despite the imposition of a subsidy, the issue of consumer ignorance arise, where a
portion of consumers are oblivious to the spill over benefits in the consumption of nanny

26. First-Person Narration In Edgar Allen Poe s The Black Cat
There are different literary elements working together in order to help readers to understand the

Allen Poe, Guy de Maupassant, and Dashiell Hammett are the authors that I will discuss. Different
authors used different types of narration in their stories. However, no matter which types of
narration, the narrativetechniques among authors increased the attractiveness of their stories. Edgar

The story mainly about the narrator killed someone, and finally caught by police because of the
heartbeat sound coming from a dead person. Again, the first person narration helped readers to

proud of his murder. Poe writes, If still you think me mad, you will think so no longer when I
described the wise precautions I took for the concealment of the body (Poe 76). The narrator
thought he did a good job on handling the dead body. From the words from the narrator directly,
readers could know how crazy this person was, and feel horrors from what he did. Therefore, the
story would become more interesting to readers because those horrible feelings were the things that

characters, but also made the ending of the story more interesting. After the narrator killed an old
man, the police went to his house to investigate the case. At first, the officers could not find

This story tells about premature murder. Poe uses first person viewpoints because in a first person
view human weakness is apparent. The action and dialogue of the charters add a great deal of
value to the plot. Montresor tells the story of the night when he took his revenge on Fortunato, a
fellow nobleman. Angry over some vague insult, he plans to murder his friend during Carnival, a
celebration like Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Montresor chooses to wait until Fortunato is drunk and
cannot understand what is going on. Montresor attracts him into the catacombsto try a cask of

horror, as Poe s usage of time and place cause the readers to predict the next action. The festival

There is no investigation of Montresor s crime and the criminal himself explains how he committed
the murder more than a half century earlier. He never faces criminal punishment for his wicked
actions. The mystery is in Montresor s motive for killing. His motive is uncertain other than the
vague thousand injuries that he has suffered at the hands of Fortunato to which he mentions.
Montresor tries to convince the reader that his intentions are honorable in an effort to maintain his
family motto Nemo me impune lacessit (No one insults me with impunity). Irony, both dramatic
and verbal, plays a significant part in this process. Dramatic irony occurs when the reader becomes
painfully mindful of what will become of Fortunato even though he continues his descent into the
catacombs in search of the Amontillado. Poe adds to this effect by calling the character Fortunato.
It is ironic that a man of misfortune is named Fortunato, and dressing him in a fool s costume since

advantage of this system is that all Americans and lawful residents would be entitled to benefits

Introduction:
Juries form an important part of our legal system and are made up of ordinary people from our
community. A jury trial is a legal proceeding in which a jury, made up of twelve individuals,
makes a decision that then directs the actions of a judge. A jury is randomly chosen from a list of
voter registrations and driver licence ID renewals. Once the jury is chosen they participate in both
criminal trials and civil trials. In criminal trials the jury hears evidence and makes a decision as to
whether the person is guilty or innocent. Civil trials that need juries are usually defamation

This can be seen as one of the advantages to a jury trial. Another advantage, is that the decision is
made by twelve people rather than just a judge. A jury trial may not always be the best choice
though; there are many disadvantages to a jury trial. A jury trial, may consist of people such as,
construction workers or stay at home mums and therefore, they may not be able to understand
complex laws and forensic evidence. This is one of the biggest disadvantages to having a jury
trial. Another disadvantage is that every juror has their own personal beliefs that can affect their
decision. For example, someone who comes to court not well dressed may already be considered
guilty in jurors that hold appearance in high regard. The jury system itself has many problems and
issues. For example, some trials can last for days or even months and therefore the jury must
remain an audience for the entire duration listening to arguments and evidence. Sometimes it
becomes too long for them. Katrina Blowers, a journalist working for ABC news, has often seen

John Polidori s The Vampyre (1810). It was not until eight decades later that Bram Stoker
popularized the existence of this figure with the publication of Draculain 1897. The folklore of the
vampirehas come a long way since and can be found in today s popular media more frequently

Punter and Byron reinforce this claim by stating that, Dracula is associated with disruption and
transgression of accepted limits and boundaries (231). It is relevant to consider the aggressive
behavior of Dracula towards his victims while he is on the prowl to fulfill his thirst for blood,
especially with Lucy and Reinfield and the image of female vampires feeding on young children
(Lucy). This bolsters the notion that the depiction of vampires in early portrays was violent.
Also, as a sexually powerful creature, he preyed on men and women to fulfill his desires. The
sexual representation of vampires is also evident from Ernest Jones early analysis of folktales,
including the vampire. He proceeded to conclude that vampire s and their counterparts, namely the
Churel (India) and the Drud (vampires that prey exclusively on other vampires), do not confine
themselves to sucking blood; rather in the unconscious mind, blood is commonly associated with
semen (106). It would be inaccurate to associate these references to anything but the erotic nature
of older folktales. Even in Dracula, the Count is portrayed as a seductive aristocrat who sucks on
the blood of men and women, alike. The homosexual aspect of vampire tales is also apparent in
Carmilla (Joseph le Fanu 1872). As pointed out by Punter and Byron, Laura experiences intense
erotic advances from the female vampire, to the extent of being puzzled

abdominal emergencies, such as; appendicitis or pancreatitis. However, I did forget certain aspects
of the physical examination and had to be prompted by the MO. Although with more practice such
incidence would be reduced.
Analysis
I was happy that I managed to rule out any distinct causes of the abdominal pain by performing the
examination to collect data, analyse it, and use the results to make an appropriate decision (Schon,

information required to confirm diagnosis, as I did forget some aspects.

Chief Justice Roberts stated courts in the U.S. have historically granted injunctions upon a finding
of infringement since the 19th century. The Antitrust Division in the U.S. also admits a patent
owner s rights to exclude are similar to the rights enjoyed by owners of other forms of private
property in the Antitrust Guidelines for the Licensing of Intellectual Property. Therefore, as a
fundamental principle, antitrust law does not generally prohibit the holder of any other property
right from seeking an injunctionto vindicate that right. The FTC has the right to regulate unfair
methods of competition and unfair or deceptive acts or practices under Section 5 of the Federal
Trade Commission Act. During the past two decades, the FTC has been heavily involved in
several high profile SEP disputes, including Dell Computer Corp., N Data, Rambus Inc. v. FTC,

Motorola Mobility, the order prohibits Google/Motorola from making any future claims for

President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1st in 1863 announcing that
all people held as slaves shall be free. Lincoln hoped to inspire all blacks and slaves in the
Confederacy even though the proclamation was limited in many ways. It applied only to states that
had seceded from the Union, leaving slavery untouched in the loyal border states. While the
freedom was promised depended upon the Union military victory. The Emancipation Proclamation
did not end slavery in the nation but shaped the reasoning for war. Approximately 200,000 black

farmers had to sell their farms due to losing slave workers and most whites were unhappy. By
abolishing slavery we were able to make many positive changes as well including the economy.
Many job opportunities opened up for white people due to the lack of slaves while blacks had a
hard time finding jobs at first but were even able to eventually find jobs for
themselves(ushistory.org,2008 2017). As

40. Improving Education Through Cultural Diversity
In today s society, I ve learned that cultural diversity is important and it has been for many centuries
ago. The dictionary states that cultural diversity is the cohabitation of different values, cultural, sex
and race in one definite component. In America today cultural diversity has been an everyday
expression in the educationworld. Some have a misunderstanding of what it may mean. We must
have some type of order if we plan to be successful when it comes to having a diverse school. This
happens within our own learning services where our children and our students are well educated.

I think it is a good ideas to teach children about what is right from wrong when they are young. I
like to tell children that they can work better together when they fully understand each other. Now
and days students have tons of technology in the classroom that most people feel that will help
them learn. Others feel like technology blocks student from learning because they depend on
google. I ve heard some students say that if you don t know the answer then you can just google it.
Children are being raised in the technology generation where technology is everywhere. But why
stop children from using technology when that s all that is big shown on television, in the media,
magazines, radio, etc.
From reading a new article from Pinellas County School District I learned that the children from
Tarpon Springs Elementary school are via video chatting with student from Greece. I find that to be
a great idea to have children interact through technology. Why? Because the questions that the
children are asking some teacher do not know because they have never been to Greece to
experience the things that the children over there have experienced. In case of emergency, how do
you get off the island (Reeves, 2016). A fifth grader asked that question, I felt that whatever question
that the children asked were all good questions. In the article it did not state all the questions but I

42. The House Of Candles Essay
ABSTRACT: Wilfrid Wilson Gibson (1878 1962) occupies a distinct place among Georgian
poets. His name is associated with such poets as Rupert Brooke, Edward Marsh, Walter de la
Mare and Siegfried Sassoon. He has written a large number of poems on diverse themes like
nature, love, unemployment and the sufferings of common people, old age and childhood.
Besides, the plight of women also gets expression in some of his poems like Agatha Steel, The
Operation, The Call, The Wound and many others. The House of Candles is such a poem that deals
with the predicament of a womanin bearing an illegitimate child. Man and woman are equally
responsible for the act of sexual intercourse out of wedlock. If this mating results in pregnancy of
woman, it cannot be called an act of chance or accident. Unfortunately, society is of two minds
towards female sexuality and in such circumstances women are blamed and all the punishment and
criticism are meted upon them. No one cares for the man who is responsible for such condition of
a woman. In fact, the society is real culprit for the predicament of women. In this article, an attempt

46. Six and Seven in Masque of the Red Death
Edgar Allan Poe was a writer who believed every single word contained meaning and in his own
words expressed this idea in brevity only he is capable, В…there should be no word written, of
which tendency, direct or indirect, is not to the one pre established design. (Poe 244). To this
effect, Poe drenches his works in symbolism and allegory. Especially in shorter works, Poe assigns
meaning to the smallest object, explicitly deriving exurbanite significance within concise
descriptions. The Masque of the Red Death tells the story of a Prince Prospero who along with his
one thousand friends sought a haven from the plague that was ravishing their country. They lived

And the seventh, and most westerly apartment, is black with red accents and represents the end
of life, the setting of the sun, and death. Poe did not intend a specific meaning for the number
seven, just for the reader to be aware of the passing of time and the idea that the prince was
trying to recreate a perfect world complete with В…all the appliances of pleasureВ…Without
was the Red Death. (238). The Prince s recreation of the world is ironic because it is modeled
after the one the Prince and his followers are trying to escape. The seven perfect rooms
foreshadow the evitable downfall of perfection. The number seven appears six times in the text
which may lead to some significance behind that number as well. Six could represent human
morality, the devil, spiritual imperfection. The masquerade takes place in the sixth month of
isolation in the abbey; the sixth apartment is where the Prince finally confronts Red Death and
eventually dies, falling in to the seventh apartment. The sixth apartment is also colored violet,
which has meaning of royalty and power. It may be irony that the prince succumbs to the Red
Death in the violet room and may have more to do with the fact that it is the sixth room they meet.
It is the number six that represents the defiance of god and marks several anti Christ like figures in

For the past few decades, the development of technology and the expansion of the knowledge has
enriched our life, especially for our childhood life. However, relatively speaking, kids now are
getting less freedom than the past due to the world has more potential dangerous such as the
increased rate of abduction. Dealing a complicated problem with a very simple violent way may
result in a worse impact in the near future. Because of parents excessively protect their own
children and outside world is too horrible to play alone, more and more kids lost the opportunity of
touching the nature, instead they indulge in the virtual world created by electronic products. In the
story The Shortening Leash , Jessica and Hanna give us a relatively accurate and unbiased
information about the situation that kids now lost freedom a lot according to the board surveys and

Standards based grading is a movement that is gaining ground in education which involves
measuring students proficiency on well defined course objectives (p. 70). The author is a high

The article describes seven reasons for replacing a point based system with a standards based one.
The seven reasons discussed were that grades should have meaning, challenging of the status quo,
we can control grading policies, reduces meaningless paperwork, helps teachers adjust instruction, it

You are walking down the sidewalk, when all of the sudden you see someone run into the road

much risk in helping other people. Morally, the correct thing to do would be to be a Good Samaritan

just human decency. Things happen all the time where you are forced to make a choice. Whether

The Good Samaritan law requires people assist anyone in distress (Allred 334). If the United
States passed a law that made it where people had to help someone in distress, I think that the
number of fatalities would go down. Bystanders would be required to help by law. It would
speed up reaction time because people would be forced to at least call an ambulance. Just with
one phone call you could possibly keep a person alive to see their family, friends, and their world
again. On the other hand, a lot of people think that helping someone in need or having a law that
forces them to help someone in need is a bad idea. [The Good Samaritan in the Biblical parable]
didn t have to worry about being sued (Sjoerdsma 336). People in America are always looking for a
way to sue people. If you had to save someone, by choice or by law, and you did not succeed in
saving them, you could be liable for their death. And because of this you could be sued by their
family. Many times the risks outweigh the chances of doing good. If you go to try and help
someone and figure out it was a ploy to kidnap or to rob you, it would do you harm by just trying
to be a good person. If you are on a dock and you see someone drowning, and you jump in after
them they could possible pull you down with them. Now, the single person rescue mission

52. Vacation Rentals Or Hotels
Vacation rentals or hotels, that is the question. When choosing the most suitable accommodation for
your trip, there are a few factors that come into play. For example, how much are you willing to
spend for a night? After all, the money that doesn t go into accommodation, goes into meals or
shopping.
To help you deal with this struggle, we have compiled a checklist to guide your choice in deciding
the perfect accommodation for your trip. Undecided between vacation rentals or hotels? Read on to
find out more about which to pick when you are planning your perfect holiday trip.
Costs can vary according to the size, location and length of your stay. If you are not on a tight
budget, staying at a hotel might be more enticing than spending a night at a vacation home. Unlike
a vacation rental, a hotel offers more customer oriented services such as room keeping services
and a 24 hour reception and concierge to attend to any needs you might have. Stay in a hotel and
when you are back after a long day spent exploring the city, you can be sure to return to a tidied
room and clean sheets.
If your budget is not as flexible, vacation rentals are the way to go. The biggest perk is that
instead of getting a room all to yourself, you get an entire house! This often comes complete with
a living room, a bedroom and a kitchen. It will be like you never left home, except maybe a little
bit nicer and more exciting.
More often than not, the reason why most hotels are costly is due to the fact

On the front, typical of all Panathenaic amphorae, is an image of Athena holding a spear,
featuring a limited but still visually striking use of color. Dark red and white adorn her apparel,
helmet, and shield. Her skin is also colored with a whiteish tone this detail is perhaps a tradition
left over from the much earlier Minoan civilization, whose art made the visual distinction of
female from male with lighter skin tones. Incised lines are used to depict intricate decorations on
her tunic. In this panel, Athena is flanked on either side by Doric columns, an inscription
running up the side of one, and roosters atop both. The significance of the roosters remains
unknown, but some have theorized that the presence of the birds could have something to do
with the Greek word for rooster, alektruon, which means defender, while others suggest that they
are symbolic of Zeus, Athena s father. The neck and the foot of the vase are decorated on both
sides. The back of the vase displays a scene from a stadion footrace, the event for which this prize
would have been awarded. All 5 athletes in the panel assume the heroically nude state that was
more than common in Greek society, and detailed musculature is delineated with the use of
incised lines. As with Athena on the other side, Minoan influence is evident in the scene,
evidenced by the pinched waists if the runners. Beyond the focal points of both scenes, no
details are used to indicate their surrounding landscape, in a very similar fashion to the Berlin
painter s style. Also like the Berlin painter, there is evidence of perspective, as the athlete s legs
and arms overlap each other to provide a sense of relative space, however, this detail disappears
