The document discusses welfare economics and the efficiency of markets. It defines consumer surplus and producer surplus, and how they are measured using demand and supply curves. The market equilibrium maximizes total surplus, which is the sum of consumer and producer surplus. This occurs when resources are allocated efficiently. However, market power and externalities can cause markets to be inefficient.
Organizational structures can take many forms depending on factors like the environment, size, technology, and strategy of the organization. The key elements of organizational structure include departmentalization based on functions, products, geography, or other approaches. Structures also determine the degree of centralization vs decentralization, hierarchy of authority, and span of control. Common structures are functional, product, geographic, matrix, team, and network-based, with hybrid approaches also used. The goal is designing structures that support business strategy and allow for effective coordination, communication, and achievement of goals.
The document analyzes impact investments as an emerging asset class. It acknowledges contributions from organizations that provided data and perspectives. A survey of impact investors found that most expect returns comparable to traditional asset classes with appropriate risk-adjusted returns. The report also sizes market opportunities in sectors addressing basic needs in developing countries, finding a potential $400 billion market. It argues impact investing can provide significant social and environmental benefits while generating financial returns for investors.

E-marketing promises closer alignment of supply and demand through disintermediation and developing loyal customer relationships. However, most business-to-consumer companies fail because of high customer acquisition costs, poor customer experience, and technical issues. While technology and broadband access improve, establishing critical mass remains challenging for business-to-business exchanges. Successful models focus on quality metrics, promotion through acquisition testing, and customization through analysis of customer preferences and behavior.

Consideration is something of legal value given in exchange for a promise or performance in a contract. For a promise to be supported by consideration, the consideration must either be legally detrimental to the promisee or legally beneficial to the promisor. A court will generally not question the fairness of consideration as long as it has legal sufficiency. Exceptions include cases where a party lacks legal capacity or a contract is found to be unconscionable. Preexisting legal duties, past consideration, and illusory promises typically do not constitute valid consideration. The settlement of claims and certain promises like promises to pay time-barred debts may be enforceable without separate consideration.

Time is our most valuable resource. Each day we are given 86,400 seconds in our "bank of time" but any unused time is lost and cannot be reclaimed. We must live in the present and make the most of each moment, as time waits for no one. Appreciate the value of even small increments of time, from minutes to milliseconds, by considering what those without them would give to have them back. Treasure the time you spend with friends and loved ones.
