Fashion s Influence On Fashion
When one thinks of a genre they think of a book or a type of music. Genre can be thought of as a
category of art. Fashion is a form of art, artists everyday are creating works that they feel people
will wear and like. Fashion is a huge industry with thousands of designers that makes billions of
dollars per year. Whether people realize it or not, every single person has a sense of style and has
their own taste in clothing. With fashionthere are different genres ranging from chic to bohemian
to sporty. Along with different genres of fashion, there are different genres of brands. With these
two genres combined, an examination of the correlation of the brands with the style of fashion
will be examined. The first genre of fashion we are going to examine is a style called chic . Chic
is a French word that means classy. When the word chic crosses my mind, I picture a girl
standing in the streets of New York City dressed up from head to toe looking her finest. Most
chic clothes cover the body of the person wearing them and makes them look a bit classier than
others. BB Dakota is a brand that is considered chic, it is on the lower of the scale of prices of
clothes. Most of their clothes have been seen in top boutiques and in department stores. Celebrities
such as Taylor Swift and others have been seen wearing this brand. It was first founded 30 years
ago in Southern California by a French designer. She limits the buyers of her clothing because she
wants them to be unique and

Analysis Of The Book Young Goodman Brown And The...
Nathaniel Hawthorne and Washington Irving are two of the most prolific and successful writers
of their era. Hawthorne s, Young Goodman Brown is a story about a man, Goodman Brown
who happens to set out on a trip for an evil purpose. On the way he meets a man who offers him
his staff, saying that it might help him walk faster, but Goodman Brown refuses and wishes to
return back to his village for the sake of his wife, Faith. On the other hand, Irving s, The Devil
and Tom Walker is about an individual who lets his greed and selfishness take charge of him.
Tom Walker, a greedy man, attempts to make a deal with a devil. Tom seeks wealth and in return
the devil asks for his soul. In both stories, the authors express their feelings and views about staying
away from indulgence and sin. In spite of all the difference among Hawthorne s, Young Goodman
Brownand Irving s, The Devil and Tom Walker, they share salient similarities such as setting,
symbolism, and author s purpose.
To begin with, Hawthorne and Irving portray a similar use of setting in their works of literature.
Both authors illustrate a gloomy setting which takes place in remote areas of Massachusetts
around the same period of time. For instance, The Devil and Tom Walker takes place in a
historical area settled by Quakers and Puritans where religion and virtue is widespread among the
people. However, much of the setting of the narrative takes place in a deep inlet winding several
miles into the Charles Bay,

A Modest Proposal Rhetorical Analysis
During the late seventeenth century, political pamphlets were distributed throughout Ireland to
promote the ideas of various intellectuals and laymen. However, many discarded them and did not
pay attention to them. Jonathan Swift, author of A Modest Proposal, takes lead for these unnoticed
pamphlets and builds a proposal he thinks would help Irelandeconomy. A Modest Proposalis an
ironic example that presents the attitude of rich towards poor and their starving kids. Jonathan uses
various elements like metaphors, repetitions, irony and parallelism to focus on destructive defiance
of the writing. Jonathan swiftstarts by blaming the mothers of these children that they should start
working and get some earning to support these kids. He also foretells the future of these children
that they will turn into thieves or sell themselves to foreign countries for money. According to
Swift, it is just because the parents did not train their children the unassertive way of life and
could not give them a proper lifestyle. In A Modest Proposal Jonathan Swift does not blame the
shortcomings of Ireland on the people. He says that the people, politicians, and English were all to
be at fault for the terrible state and poverty of Ireland. there are three factors that make Swift s
argument not serious: the tone of the author, his insincerity, and ridiculousness of the proposal.
Swift states that because these women kept having children and could not provide food to them,
the economy of Ireland and standard of living couldn t improve. So, he makes a proposal to the
public that he thinks would be beneficial for them. His way of thinking and argument is incorrect
in what he is proposing as He marks that young healthy children are delicious food to be roasted,
stewed and boiled to be served and eaten by rich British people. Similarly, he estimates that twenty
thousand kids should be held in reserve for breeding purposes. This brutalizes how children should
be treated like animals. Jonathan swift trying to support his argument, in a very sarcastic way
states that certain body parts of children are good to eat and on special occasions could be held on
demand. furthermore, he advises that healthy and nourished kids could be

John M. Bracke And Karen B. Tye In Teaching The Bible
Introduction
John M. Bracke and Karen B. Tye in Teaching the Bible in the Church provides insight about, How
do we teach the Bible in ways that form and transform persons and the Church? Authors, assert
there is an increasing number of people that are Bible illiterate. They state many Seminary students
have diminutive familiarity of biblical stories of the text. The authors contend that the purpose of
the church and the core of Christian Discipleship is based upon scripture. The authors allude to the
notion that in order to fulfill the great commission as well as raise up future generations to be more
Bible literate as well as ethically sound, the Bible must be taught in the Church. Bracke and Tye
reminds and cautions readers that many assumptions are made when teaching the Bible. After
gaining facts in scripture, teachers must delve further, so students are transformed. Authors argue
that it is not sufficient in just providing information, but that an encounter with God should be
experienced. Writers caution teachers to not assume when Scripture is taught, something new is to
be uncovered. Bracke and Tye correspondingly introduce the notion of culture and the affect it has
on learners in the matter in which they receive and process information. Authors encourage teachers
of the Bible to utilize Biblical Scholarship when teaching. They argue that teachers have a
responsibility when making sense of text and when used appropriately, scholarship is a great

Complexity Theory Research Paper
What is it about complexity theory that I think is so important for everyone to consider? It has to
do with the power of outliers.
Next I ll speak on a topic that arose for me as I taught in public schools in the 1970s and 80s.
During that time we had some students who regularly disrupted classes, we sent them to the office,
and if they were bad enough they were suspended from school. Students like this were relatively
rare. The systems of public education have gone on for 20 or 30 years in the same vein. Today if
students disrupt class, they are sent to the office, and if this happens often enough, they are
suspended from school. Unfortunately, everywhere in the Western world, teachers report that this is
much more frequent and prevalent that it was when I was working in classrooms.
Complexity theory tells us that there is a norm of activity that exists in any field of interactions. In
my example, that is the norm students in schools. However there are also always outliers whose
activity appears at first random, chaotic, and disruptive. Science has taught us that these outliers
with their random chaotic and disruptive pattern, if watched long enough, will create a complex
new possibility. They call these fractals.
Let us just consider that idea. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What if we had asked ourselves seriously what we needed change in order to make some fully
engaged? What if we had started to change our behaviour as teachers? What if we had begun to
learn how to include multimedia in our presentations? What if we had asked their opinion on what
they wanted to be learning? Is it possible, that because of schools and teachers, who would have
by now (after 30 years of experience) built flexibility into the standard mode of operation, education
would be better prepared to face modern students who have grown up with computers and

Pros And Cons Of The Scientific Revolution
Scientific Revolution
In 16th and 17th century Europe, the Scientific Revolution was occurring. This meant that
intellectuals were beginning to create meaning of the universe through mathematics and sciences.
Their new ideas clashed with the ideas of the late medieval times, like Scholasticism and
Aristotelian philosophy. The ideas of natural philosophers like Tycho Brahe, Rene Descartes,
Galileo Galilei, and Copernicus emerged to provide new interpretations of the world through science
and math. During the Scientific Revolution, social factors like sexism specifically hindered
scientific work for females, while political leadership and religion both had the ability to hinder and
encourage scientific work.
Scientific work was encouraged by social factors like religion through religious people who
believed that science could contribute to proving God s greatness, and was also promoted
through political leaders. Not all religious people believed that scientific work was harming the
thinking of others, in fact, some believed it would help people achieve a greater understanding
of God. For example, John Calvin believed that astronomy was beneficial and should be
continued because it reveals God s wisdom (Doc. 2). During a time period where the belief in
God was still prevalent, Calvin s purpose in speaking about the advantages of astronomy was to
teach believers that not all science is bad, some sciences may help people understand God.
Scientific work was also encouraged through

The Culture Of Circle A Builders
The culture of Circle A Builders is very important to us. As stated previously, we do not strive to
be the largest builder in the area. Our company culture is to be honest, respectful, trustworthy,
and to work hard for our customer. We strive to be a member of their building team. This culture
has made it feasible for us to create long lasting relationships with customers who feel
comfortable calling us for any size job, not feeling as if we are unapproachable. They appreciate
our employees, knowing that if Jerry is unable to be at a jobsite that our employees will do just
as good of a job for them, or call Jerry if they have questions. Our work team culture is relaxed,
but with the expectation that it is okay to have fun, but the job needs to be done by the end of
the day. Our employees understand that they each take a part in the responsibility of getting the
job done and having satisfied customers. Strategic Intent As stated previously, our strategic
intent is to remain the size we are. We have the ability to grow, but we feel most comfortable at
the size we are. We understand that if we grow, we will have increased responsibility to our
employees, and our overhead will grow. We are at a comfortable, manageable size for us. It has
taken us a long time to become a strategically sound business. This also continues to allow us to
invest in our alternate course, including rentals and investment properties. If we were to grow our
business, we would need to

Conductive Hearing Loss In The US
Introduction In the United States, about 48 million people or 20 percent of the population is
affected by hearing loss (Hearing Loss Association of America). According to Cole and Flexer
(2008), Hearing loss is the most common birth defect (p. xi). Approximately 16,000 to 18,000
infants and young children are diagnosed with hearingloss every year. (Cole Flexer, 2008).
Hearing loss can be classified in three ways based on type: conductive, sensorineural, and mixed.
Conductive hearing loss is when sound is not transmitted from the outer ear to the middle ear in an
effective manner. Examples of a conductive hearing loss include: otitis media, perforation of the
tympanic membrane, impacted cerumen, benign growths, foreign objects, or a maldeveloped or
absent outer ear or middle ear structure. Most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be described as unilateral meaning only one ear is affected or bilateral meaning both ears are
affected. Hearing loss can also be classified as symmetrical or asymmetrical. Symmetrical means
that both ears are affected equally while asymmetrical means that the ears are unequal in their level
of hearing loss. Hearing loss can also be broken down into sudden and progressive onset. Hearing
loss can occur over a short period or it can worsen over time. Fluctuating hearing loss changes over
time, and stable hearing loss remains constant. Hearing loss is characterized by degree of severity
based on decibel loss (American Speech Hearing Association). Normal hearing has a decibel loss of
10 to 15. Slight hearing loss has a decibel loss of 16 to 25. Mild hearing loss has a decibel loss of
26 to 40. Moderate hearing loss has a decibel loss of 41 to 55. Moderately severe hearing loss has a
decibel loss of 56 to 70. Severe hearing loss has a decibel loss of 71 to 90. Profound hearing loss
has a decibel loss of 90 or greater (Clark,

Aboriginal Self Government Essays

Aboriginal Self Government
Aboriginal self government is a long standing issue that continues to be a struggle for the First
Nations People. To truly understand the scope of Aboriginal self government within First Nations
communities, more effort is needed to understand the legislative system that runs Canada. This
issue of self governance has been very destructive in First Nations communities. After signing the
Treaties, First Nations People was stripped of their livelihood and from that point on to abide by
the Dominion of Canadas legislative policies. One current issue that would be a perfect example is

he brings up issues about the federal government making policies that have direct affect on First
Nations People and they have no knowledge or say of what happens regarding decision about
their people[4]. The federal government has a great deal of power that will ultimately alter how
First Nations are dealt with. Dan Russell discuses both the Meech Lake Accord and the Charlotte

The Solar And Integrated Photovoltaic Panels That Generate...
One of the most innovative and interesting ideas in renewable energy to hit the streets in recent
years, happens to actually be the streets! I m talking about roadways with integrated photovoltaic
panels that generate electricity! The basic concept of this technology is actually quite
interesting. With over 2.5 million miles of paved roadway throughout the United States alone,
even covering a fraction of those roadway surfaces with solar panels could generate enormous
amounts of clean energy. There are currently two different approaches to the solar panel
roadway concept, both of which are currently in the Research and Development stages with
prototypes already deployed. First, a company aptly named Solar Roadways here in the United
States, founded by Scott Brusaw, a US Marine Veteran turned Electrical Engineer and his wife.
Their concept replaces traditional paved roads with 4 square foot hexagonal arrays. Each
interlocking panel is individually replaceable, removing just four retaining bolts and a single
electrical/data connection. The Solar Roadways design requires a sophisticated sub surface road
bed with steel support columns and poured concrete with one side designated to channel water
runoff and provide drainage. The other side, large enough to support underground
telecommunication lines, electric power lines, DC AC converters, roadway panel wiring and still
allow for a man to fit inside to perform required servicing. These panels incorporate photovoltaic
cells, a

Middle Class Life During The Industrial Revolution
The Middle Class Life during
The Industrial Revolution began in England around the 1780 s. It was mainly based on the cotton
industry and subsequently many of the inventions that came out of this period were mainly for
producing and manufacturing cotton. Another stage of the Industrial Revolution was based on
inventions. This is when most of the luxury goods were produced for the public. The Industrial
Revolution is seen by scholars, as noted in A History of Western Society, as basically moderate and
evolutionary. Even though the Industrial Revolution was almost inevitable many people took
advantage of the new developments that came about and raised their standards of living because of
the goods that were previously ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus demand for goods within the country complemented the demand from the colonies. This
was very important because this raised the standard of living for the average families. It was like
giving a cookie to a child, the child would always want another one. As soon as the families
experienced the better life they will always strive to achieve that same quality of life.
There were many important developments to the cotton industry that came about due to the
Industrial Revolution. The problem the cotton industry had was due to inadequate machinery or the
lack of machinery. Clothes and other things that came from the cotton industry were being
produced way too slowly and the price of the material was way too expensive for the average
family. The first problem was that yarn was not being fed fast enough to the weaver, but in 1769,
two new inventions solved the problem, the spinning jenny and the water powered frame, both of
which provided yarn faster. Edmund Cartwright, who invented the power loom, combined the
machine s characteristics and purposes into one machine in 1800. Cleaning cotton was also a
tedious and time consuming job, so in 1793, Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin, which could
clean cotton 50 times faster than the previous outdated methods. Many people would actually walk
around in filthy garments all of their lives but because of the new inventions they could afford to
buy undergarments.

Scout Finch Real Courage
Harper Lee wrote To Kill a Mockingbird at a small town of Maycomb, Alabama, after The Great
Depression. The novel talked about racism, prejudices, and social rules which caused society to
be unfair. Scout Finch is a little girl who is the main character in the novel. Her characteristics are
courageous, equal, and emotional by nature, which make her get many troubles when she first goes
to school. However, she gradually grows up and becomes more mature and understandable through
each chapter by learning and overcoming many troubles in her life. In particular, although Scout s
formal schooling is disappointing, there are many valuable lessons which she learns from real life:
empathy, a real courage, and categorization of people.

There is one type of people in the world no matter what they are from, what they look, and what
they believe. The type of people cannot be classified by the way they live, the way they thought.
For example, white people and black people cannot be categorized two different types of people
when white people bring many disadvantages on black people because they only have different
thoughts. Because all people are human beings, they should be treated equally and respectfully
to make the society become fair. However, in the article To Kill a Mockingbird, Jem said, There s
four kinds of folks in the world. There s the ordinary folks like us and the neighbors, there s the
kind like the Cunninghams out in the woods, the kind like the Ewells down at the dump, and the
Negroes. (Lee 302). This quote shows the way Jem thinks that people are categorized into four
types based on background, ancestry, and race. In contrast, Scout thinks categorization in a
different way, Naw, Jem, I think there is just one type of folks, Folks. (Lee304). This quote
indicates Scout s perspective that all people are people regardless of race, background, and
ancestry. Jem s categorization of people is incorrect because he understands people through his own
eyes. In addition, he sees many unequal treatments,

The Thematic Apperception Test ( Tat )
11. Remember that the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) is a projective test in which a person is
presented with a series of ambiguous pictures and composes a story. It is an apperception test
because the person reports not what he or she sees but rather a narrative or imaginary interpretation
(Murray, 1938, p. 324). Measured by a self report test, such as the Thematic Apperception Test. The
results demonstrated significant differences. According to the American Journal of Forensic
Psychology, adolescent male sex offenders demonstrate perceptual distortion of their environment
through the use of denial as a defense mechanism. Personality characteristics varied in areas such
as the internalized values and attitudes, their external expression, and inflated self esteem. The
results concluded that adolescent sexual offender is characterized as a unique individual, a result
of a stunted developmental process. Some sex offenders have deviant fantasies and the strong
desire to act on them. There have been instances where some sexual fantasies were actually carried
out. Male and female juvenile sex offenders often exhibit behavior that is sexually abusive at a
young age; some of their unfortunate and innocent victims tend to be male, but there number of
victims increases just as often as the type. Juvenile sex offenders tend to lack social skills that are
an important attributes of their offending, and low intelligence, but a history of sexual abuse in
their family is common.

When I Am A Wild Reader Analysis
I have never been asked what kind of reader I am before so I had to spend some time thinking about
that question before I started writing this paper. After evaluating what a wild reader is I can say for
myself that I do believe I am a wild reader. For example, when I read, I read a wide variety of books
that hop from genre to genre. One week I could be reading a sci fi novel, and the next I could be
reading a work about psychology. I am a straightforward reader, in the fact that if I don t like a
book or the style that something is written, I will express the way I feel towards it. As a matter of
a fact, I m very analytical with what I read. I like to analyze things and point out whatever might be

scare tactics and the head games? Just tell me the details of your offer. I have other matters to

the dialogue and character choices and it also had a very predictable ending. About 5 chapters

Emile Durkheim s theory of suicide:
Any form of public death be it an execution, a disaster, a brutal murder, or a suicide sends
shockwaves through society and stimulates a great deal of emotion, especially among the witnesses.
(44, Sociology in a Changing World)
Suicide bombing, or suicidal terror, is an effective means of achieving political and psychological
devastation to societies and cultures the world over. This violent tactic is the weapon of choice for
Islamic militants seeking to undermine the American dominance in the 21st century. Obviously, the
brutal acts appear to be the work of insane, desperate human beings. Nevertheless, many suicide

Fueled by the prospect of becoming heroes and lacking the maturity to understand the dangers they
are seeing, young Palestinians are easily provoked to enter into harms way. The children on the
front lines of this uprising are not accidental. The Palestinian Authority (PA) has intentionally

Essay about Technology in Law Enforcement
Technology used in policing enhances law enforcement organizations ability to function because it
has improved police databases, reports, tracking, and forensics (DOJ, 2004). In addition, a less
lethal weapon is designed to disable, capture, or immobilize a suspect without killing them.
However, occasionally deaths do happen as a result of less lethal weapons which include kinetic
energy, electrical, acoustic, and chemical weapons. Furthermore, violence, disease, and infected
evidence are dangers that law enforcement officers face today.
Police databases and offense reports have been improved by technology and have enhanced law
enforcement organizations ability to function. One type of police database is a fingerprint

Specialized cameras now allow crime techs to capture entire crime scenes on video for later
reference. Therefore, GPS devices and forensic science have also been improved by technology and
have enhanced law enforcement organizations ability to function.
Kinetic energy and electric weapons are less lethal weapons that are used by law enforcement
officers today. Kinetic energy is used by specially developed firearm rounds that are designed to
incapacitate a suspect non lethally. The specially developed firearm rounds include rubber, wax,
plastic, and beanbag tipped projectiles. For example, if law enforcement officers encounter a heavy
set suspect with a knife that is unwilling to comply, they can fire at the suspect with a beanbag
shotgun to knock the wind of the suspect in an effort to detain him/her. Electric weapons include
stun guns and stun batons which use electricity to immobilize their targets (Grant, 2008). For
instance, if a suspect that poses a threat is not following orders given to them by law enforcement
officers then the stung gun can be used which ultimately stiffens their muscles rendering them
unable to move. Therefore, kinetic energy and electric weapons are less lethal weapons that are
used by law enforcement officers today.
Chemical weapons are also less lethal weapons that are used by law enforcement

Nazario Grande Analysis
As Enrique continues to get closer and closer to the United States he decides that he needs more
money to keep him going. The brick maker offers yet another kindness: if Enrique will work, he
will get both food and a place to sleep (Nazario, p.131). This is good for Enrique. He will be able to
make some money and finish up his journey to the United States. The final challenge for Enrique is
the Rio Grande. He knows that this will be the hardest part of the trip. He can taste the American
soil, but this is where many of the migrants endure the hardest part. For a while Enrique stays in
camps that will help him cope with the process of crossing the river. The encampment he has joined

Aluminum Synthesis Lab
In this experiment, alum was synthesized from aluminum. The goal was to calculate the number if
water moles that are part of alum s crystalized structure. This research into the number of moles of
water in alum s structure is important because the number of moles of water within the alum
contribute to it s structure. Alum is a hydrated crystal, or a number of hydrates bonded to an ion
that can also be referred to as potassium aluminum sulfate dodecahydrate. There are 12 hydrates
bonded to the potassium aluminum sulfate ion. Alum is also a double salt, because it contains two
cations: potassium and aluminum. Aluminum has a plethora of uses from household objects such

Potassium hydroxide was added to aluminum and water, forming potassium aluminum hydroxide
and hydrogen gas. Sulfuric acid was then added to the previous product, forming alum and water.
Research by Kebbi State University s A.U Birnin Yauri and Musa Aliyu is being done in concern to
how aluminum waste can be converted into alum as a environmentally friendly way of reducing
pollution and producing a useful product in alum. This method is more environmentally friendly
and cost effective then synthesizing new aluminum. Alum can be used as baking powder, for
pickling, leather tanning, in paper production, and water purification amongst other things.
Recycling aluminum to alum can reduce carbon dioxide production by 95% as opposed to
synthesizing aluminum. As aluminum ore is being depleted, and pollution is an ever growing
dilemma, disposing of soda cans and scrap aluminum is crucial to preserving the environment.
Synthesizing alum, a useful substance could provide a solution to the pollution scrap aluminum
presents. Harshita Sachdeva, Diksha Dwivedi, and Rekha Saroj of the Mody Institute of
Technology and science in India have done research on alum as a green solution to a catalyst to
break down and reduce waste. Typically, hazardous solvents are used to break down waste, however
alum is being investigated to be used as a catalyst in organic synthesis. The benefits to using alum
include its tendency to be environmentally and cost friendly. The institutes research is researching
how alum can replace otherwise toxic, damaging catalysts in synthesis reactions because it is a safe
material in low doses. This experiment complements both of these research projects through the
understanding of how alum is produced from aluminum. This supplements the research being done
at Kebbi State because aluminum waste is a growing concern, and

Conflict in Interpreter of Maladies
Many of the stories in Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri include a fundamental composition
of literary elements, such as conflict which readers see in both Interpreter of Maladies and A
Temporary Matter . Lahiri shows the difficulty of communication which overtime turn into the
destruction of the entire relationship. For instance, readers see difficulty in communication when
Shukumar and Shoba become distant shortly after she has a stillborn child. The death of their baby
has severe effects their entire relationship, and adds to their lack of communication. Similarly in

instead he had thought of how he and Shoba had become experts at avoiding each other... or
whispered his name on those rare occasions they still reached for each others bodies before
sleeping (Lahiri 5). Shukumar comes to a realization that their relationship is slowly collapsing and
that the couple has drifted. He reminisces on the good times, when they were in love, made love,
and when they communicated.
Lack of communication is shown in Interpreter of Maladies when two people who speak the
same language, do not understand each other or communicate. This is best shown when Mr. and
Mrs. Das constantly argue: At the tea stall Mr. and Mrs. Das bickered about who should take
Tina to the toilet. Eventually Ms. Das relented when Mrs. Das pointed out that he had given the
girl a bath the night before (Lahiri 43). Conflict is shown between Mr. and Mrs. Das when they
bicker about who will give the girl a bath, furthermore having the child feel as if taking care of her
is a chore. From this quote, readers see that the state of their marriage is not well. As Mr. Kapasi
and Mrs. Das grew closer, she decides to share one of the biggest secrets of her life and marriage:
Rajs. He s not Raj s son (Lahiri 62). Their lack of communication and isolation from each other
continue as Mrs. Das keeps this to herself. She feels that the guilt will not get to her if she explains

typewriter, which put her on her path to writing novels ( Joyce Carol OatesAcademy 1). After high
school, Oates went to Syracuse University on a full ride scholarship and was valedictorian of her
class (Moyer 1). After graduating from Syracuse, Oates moved on to earn her master s degree
from the University of Wisconsin, and there she got married to Raymond J. Smith (Moyer 1).
From there she went to teach at the University of Detroit and the University of Windsor before
finally reaching Princeton University (Moyer 1). Oates taught in different universities with her
first being the University of Detroit. During her time in Detroit, Oates experienced many
different riots and some say she had a front row seat for the social turmoil engulfing America s
cities ( Joyce Carol Oates Academy 1). Her experiences with these riots and violent acts shifted
into her writing, which created the violent realities that were in her early fiction ( Joyce Carol

How Does Goal Displacement Affect Society
Everyone has those times when they wonder about where they are in life and if they truly are
doing the best they are capable of. That statement there is one of the most glossed over issues in
society. We are always told what needs to be done, and how to get it done in good quality and
time. Businesses and people in general are relying more and more on goaloriented ideals, which isn
t a bad thing, except for when it becomes a straight routine and monotonous. Then we have the
problem of goal displacement. Goal displacement is the process that occurs when the rules become
an end in themselves rather than a means to an end and organizational survival becomes more
important than achievement of goals. (Merton, 1968). Goal displacement is becoming... Show more

Whether that be as simple as a to do list or as complicated as a bucket list, or even having a

goal displacement. Although, by far this is the hardest portion of society to tell signs because
each person has very different lives, and goes about them differently too. But just the same, the
signs are there when you look at the public on a larger scale. So many people have an
outstanding debt, and yet, still spend money making that debt greater. They don t have much of a
choice considering the economy, right? Wrong. The world may run on money, but there are
programs that help manage debt while people still go about their lives, and I am not talking about
welfare. Welfare is where the goal displacement is happening for people, because it s a federal
program meant to help those in need until they can get back on their feet, not to become their
main income source. Don t let the rules become an end for yourselves in pursuing a higher status
or being a part of a better income bracket. Yes, it may take time and seem unattainable, but time is
all some have so why not use it for the good of yourselves and

How Did Islam Influence Trans Saharan Trade
Following the advent of the current era, West Africa with the Western Sudan empires of Ghana,
Songhai, and Mali was the center of outside contact and influence with the spread of Islam and
being a center of the Trans Saharan trade. Being a part of the Trans Saharan trade gave West
Africans a connection with those outside the continent, namely in Europe and Southeast Asia. It
also gave the opportunity for things other than goods to be exchanged like Islam. Africans adopted
and shaped Islam into their own religion that others besides them also learned and accepted. The

The effects of the Trans Saharan trade are evident through looking at the currencies used in Western
Africa. Igbo Ukwu, in modern day Nigeria, shows that by the ninth century West Africawas not
isolated from the outside world, as for some its trading goods included over one hundred thousand
glass beads, mostly from Egypt and India. The Almoravids also exported gold coins to infiltrate
Europe s economy by accompanying its silver currency. During the height of Western African
empires, Africans had a lot of interaction with people outside the continent that they were both
influenced by and affected themselves.
East Africa after the sixteenth century had grown to be an international center where many
outsiders would come to trade. By the 1500s, East Africa was starting to become a thriving trading
center, with several Europeans and Southeast Asians coming to stay for several months due to the
strong monsoon trade winds. They were not just intermediaries in trade but consolidators and
producers, with Kilwa playing the middleman. Portuguese seeing this success, attempted to

Marketing Principles Of A Successful Business
In a world where we re always wanting more, and what we have never seems to be enough. One
desires more, once basic needs are fulfilled. Human needs are basic requirements for maintaining
life, such as, air, food, water, shelter, and clothing. Wants are comforting and pleasurable. Wants
are the desires that are not essential to life, but makes life a little more enjoyable. Both are
unlimited and endless. The economy devotes business to satisfy one s wants, because ones basic
needs are fulfilled. Although, a person needs have been fulfilled one desires more. Needs, wants,
and demands are a part of marketingprinciples businesses use to obtain data. In order for businesses
to make a profit, consumers must spend. A successful business, pays attention to market research,
surveys, reviews, and feedback. In order to reinvent and improve the business to satisfy consumers
wants. From marketing strategies, racy advertising, colorful bright billboards, to repetitive
commercials. All intended to catch one s eye and desire it, desire the needto have it, and most
importantly buy it. US is the largest producer of goods and services in the world, leaving us
Americans as the leading consumer. Businesses thrive if we buy their products, and that is how the
economy flourishes. Consistently creating a demand through superficial items, that consumers
love. Why buy or drink plain filtered water when one can drink Evian water? Why buy regular,

Social Media Into Traditional Marketing And Advertising...
Abstract
Effective marketing and advertising strategy is a necessity in order to have successful saturation in
the market. There are numerous marketing strategies at the disposal of companies to use, including,
but not limited to social media. Trends in social media have grown exponentially over the past few
years and many companies nowadays are utilizing this marketing strategy to their advantage. This
paper will focus on leading edge trends in integrating social media into traditional marketing and
advertising campaigns. I will also discuss recommendations for incorporating social media into the
market segments of Mini Laps that we are targeting, as well as how I will measure the results of
these recommendations.

It is very important to choose a marketing strategy that will reach your target market. An
appropriate example of this would be if Microsoft is trying to market their Xbox One; they
would not want to advertise in Cosmopolitan magazine. It s apparent that the target market for
video games and video game consoles is probably not those women (and maybe some men) who
read Cosmopolitan magazine. A more suitable choice for Microsoft would be PC World or even
Sports Illustrated. However, it should be noted that not every product in this world is that simple
to formulate a marketing strategy for. There are quite a few marketing outlets and strategies at a
company s disposal nowadays, including magazines, social media, TV, radio, and newspapers. Up
until recent, companies made the most use of television, newspapers, and magazines. However,
huge advancements and innovations in technology have opened up new doors when it comes to a
brand new marketing strategy: social media. This has become the newest and most popular
method of marketing strategy that companies nowadays are employing to fully comprehend their
target markets. Social media offers a very large space to exploit for the purposes of market
saturation and brand awareness. Most people actively use some type of social media whether that
is Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, or Instagram. According to Hoffman and Fodor, this is a world in

Issues Concerning Adult Students Today
This literature review investigates and outlines issues concerning adult students today. Institutions
of higher education need to design and adapt their programs to attract and engage this growing
population of students to meet their needs and insure their success. This paper will defines who
adult students are, discusses and outline the specific needs they have in higher educationprograms
and discusses the barriers they currently encounter. In addition, there will be discussion about best
practices to consider, those currently in operation and future concerns for both students and

student, adult learner, non residential student and nontraditional learner interchangeably. The
growth of the adult student population in higher educationrequires programs that address and
support their specific needs.

Firstly, that the children may receive adequate and proper parenting to help them achieve their full

If the latter results, then in deciding what is best for the child, the court takes into consideration all

child s maturity, sex, and background, the need to protect the child from abuse, any history of

block a punch and hit back with two distinct motions, why not intercept and hit in one, fluid stroke.
Fluidity was the ideal. quot;Try and obtain a nicely tied package of water, quot; Bruce would taunt.
quot;Just like water, we must keep moving on, quot; Inosanto reitterates. quot; For once water stops,
it becomes stagnant. quot; Water, Bruce would always give as an example, is the toughtest thing

But even these Martial Artists could not succeed in America. They, too, had to make movies in
foreign countries. The closest Martial Arts movie to succeed in the U.S. is Rumble In the Bronx,

В· Why was Bruce Lee so famous, and why is he still thought of as the Master of Chinese Martial
Arts?
Another interresting thing about Bruce Lee is his true ability to perform martial arts. He
criticized Karate for its brocken motions, and Wing Chun for its flashy techniques. Both, he said,
were not ideal to use in actual combat. This is the reason for the creation of Jeet Kune Do
(JKD). JKD was designed to be used in real life situations. It s style is no style. The goal of JKD
is not to master certain techniques, but to let your body express the techniques in its own way.
Everyone has his own style, and JKD is a form of bringing it out.
В· What aspect(s) of Bruce Lee s character made him so famous?
The question remains in many people s mind: What made Bruce Lee so famous? There are
several Martial Arts movies; why is Bruce the one remembered for Chinese Gung Fu. Bruce
would work himself very, very hard, until he perfected what he was working on. He was a
perfectionist. Another aspect of his success is his ability to

Disadvantages Of Reality Tv
Reality television (RTV) programs are one of the most famous types of television shows,
especially among teens. Statistics show that between the ages of twelve and seventeen in America,
three out of their four favourite programs are reality television programs, but people have a very
vague idea of what reality televisionis, or when to classify a certain show as a reality program.
According to Alice Hall in her paper Viewer s Perception of Reality Programs, reality program
does not have a standard definition because of its variety and diversity, but she gathered data
based on group interviews, asked them why they like RTV and what characteristics constitutes a
reality program. Basically, she proposed that the reason why it is famous is because of what is is.
She then concluded that RTV is a television programthat shows an unscripted presentation of real
people s experience that shows novelty and unpredictability to its audience (Hall). Hall also states
that there are no definite sub genres of reality televisionbut... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Competition based RTV is similar to game shows but focuses more on how human interactions
are affected while trying to win the prize. An example would be Big Brother and Survivor that
heavily relies on human relationships (and public voting) to be able to win the cash prize,
whereas in game shows like Deal or No Deal and Wheel of Fortune, contestants and their human
interactions does not affect the game at all. In contrast, voyeur based RTV is similar to
documentaries but highly accentuated the role of producers of the show. As said above,
producers use frankenbiting to create a story out of seemingly boring everyday lives of ordinary
people. Examples would be Cops that gives their day by day routine and describes their work to
the camera, which usually does not happen when they are away from

Spartan Military Leadership
Spartan Military The Spartan army was one of the most powerful armies in the ancient world.
When Spartan boys were babies they were looked over by The Council Of Elders to see if they
were strong enough to be Warriors. At the age of 7, the boys had to leave home to start there
military training. The boys were forced to fight each other (which could cause violence). They also
became skilled at stealing food, and at other survival skills.
The teenage boys who demonstrated the most leadership, were asked to join in the Crypteia,
which was like a secret police force whose goal was to terrorize the general Helot (which is a
member of serfs in ancient Sparta) and also to murder people that were troublemakers.
At age 20, Spartan males become

Guerilla Warfare In The Movie, The Patriot
Today in time guerrilla warfare is used by one of the strongest armies of the world. These tactics
were used even back during the revolutionary war. In the movie the Patriot, this movie portrays the
fight during the revolutionary war and the battles and the horror they faced. The battlegrounds used
in the warwere a person s backyard. This new idea of guerilla warfare brought to the war was
unconventional and efficient. There were small militias taking out countless redcoats. Although it
wasn t the traditional form of fighting it worked. In the movie, the militia was led by Benjamin
Martin. General Martin and his militias tactics were honorable.
The colonist were English natives so their tactics were the same as the British army. The
Continental Regulars would line up like the British and mimic almost everything they would do.
The British are more trained and accurate so they would win every battle. The colonists were going
to lose the war if it wasn t for Benjamin Martin. Colonel Tavington shot the son of Benjamin Martin
named Thomas Martin. That fired him up and what started the rebellion using the militia. The first
sight of the guerilla warfare was when they attempted to take his oldest son. He and his two ... Show

Completely distraught, Benjamin sat next to his deathbed just weeping. When asked if he would
help with the war he declined. Soon after they left, he reached into his pocket and saw the American

Management Theories
A manager s role is to plan, make decisions, and co ordinate the organising, leading and controlling
of an organisation s resources, in order to achieve organisational goals in an efficient and effective
manner (Davidson, Simon, Woods Griffin, 2009). Management theories from the past can be
utilised by contemporary managers, enabling them to consider a range of perspectives on how to
approach problems, make decisions and develop systems designed to reap the benefits of employees
exhibiting desirable behaviours (Davidson et al, 2009). Despite the common conception that
theories are abstract and irrelevant to practical situations, managementtheories are grounded in
reality (Davidson et al, 2009). Knowledge gained from experiences in the... Show more content on

Managers can learn a lot from the positives and negatives of scientific management. In modern
organisations, increasing efficiency is always a desirable outcome, however case studies involving
scientific management highlight the danger of focussing on efficiency at the expense of employees
satisfaction. Henri Fayol, Max Weber and Chester Barnard were three contributors to administrative
management, the branch of classical management concerned with the organisation as a whole
(Davidson et al, 2009).
Henri Fayol (1841 1925) described fourteen basic principles of management, which provide the
basis for the four basic categories planning, leading, organising and controlling used in most
contemporary management books (Davidson et al, 2009). Under Fayol s system, the management
process goes beyond the basic hierarchical model developed by Taylor. The command function
continues to operate effectively through a series of co ordination and control methods. Regular
managerial meetings were recommended to improve co ordination of organisational operations
(Pindur et al, 1995). Fayol s categorisation of managerial principles is a useful reference point for
contemporary managers to examine their behaviours against (Davidson et al, 1995).
Max Weber is often referred to as the father of bureaucratic management (Pindur et al, 1995). He
developed a system in which individuals were granted occupations and responsibilities within an

Stephen Hawking s Death Of The Greatest Scientist
Imagine if you could only move your left hand an inch or so, and the rest of your body was
completely paralyzed. You can t talk, and you can hardly move. This disease is called
amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Lou Gehrig s disease, or ALS and this is what Stephen Hawking has.
Despite the fact that he is handicapped, he has managed to become one of the greatest scientists
ever.
Stephen Hawking was born on January 8, 1942 (exactly 300 years after the death of Galileo
Galilei) in Oxford, England. As a kid, he was fascinated with the idea of an ever growing universe
that he lives in, and would occasionally lie on his front lawn, with his family, observing the sky and
taking turns looking through a telescope at the stars. On one quiet, dark ... Show more content on

His great abilities in physics were weakened by his poor study habits. After his final exam,
Stephen was on the line between first and second honors. To determine his degree, the professors
decided to give him an oral exam. He passed the test with excellence, and therefore, went on to
Cambridge.
At Cambridge University, he was going to study cosmetology, a branch of physics. Fortunately for
him he decided to study theoretical physics, not experimental physics where he would have had to
set up many experiments, which he could not have done after he got ALS.
By now, Stephen had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. ALS slowly destroys the
nerves in the brain and spine. ALS victims usually die within 2 5 years because it destroys the
muscles used for breathing which leads to suffocation.
When he was diagnosed with ALS, he pretty much gave up his life. After he did not die after two
years, he realized he could go on with ALS and his study of cosmetology. Although he was weak,
he could still walk. After those 2 years, he decided he could not waste any time, there were
things he wanted to do in his life. Hawking wanted to get married and get a Ph.D. So he was
engaged to Jane Wilde in 1965. Hawking said, It [getting married to her] made me determined to
live, to go on. Jane really gave me the will to live. Then he got his Ph.D. and started to work at
Cambridge. He was now officially known as Professor Dr. Stephen William Hawking. His health

The Stories Of Isabel Allende
Isabel Allende was conceived on August 2, 1942, in Lima, Peru, to TomГЎs and Francisca Allende.
Isabel Allende is the goddaughter of Salvador Allende, the primary communist leader of Chile
who was her dad s cousin. Allende s dad was an ambassador and forsook the family when
Allende was only two years. Allende, her kin, and mom at that point moved in with her
granddad in Chile. Allende recollects herself as an insubordinate tyke amid those years living
with her granddad. We lived in a rich house with no cash, (Allende, Telegraph). My granddad
would pay for what was vital yet my mom did not have the money to get us a frozen yogurt. I
needed to resemble my granddad in light of the fact that my mom had a frightful life and he had
every one of the benefits and the power and the flexibility and the auto I believe that was the
minute I began to defy all male expert: the police, the congregation, everything. (Allende,
Telegraph). This engaging state of mind that Allende has is appeared in a large portion of her
abstract work, for example, The Stories of Eva Luna, House of Spirits, and Eva Luna. Allende
experienced childhood in a climate where ladies were mediocre compared to men and this is the
reason Allende composes stories where the lady is solid and free. To numerous perusers, Allende
seems to be a women s activist and engaging creator in light of the fact that the majority of
Allende s work is about how ladies can prevail without the need of a man yet don t fail to

It wasnt until 1991, when a man by the name of Hugh Loebner decided to pay for a contest . To
implement the Turing test, Loebner pledged a grand prize of $100,000 for the first person who
could design a program that would fool ten judges for three hours of conversation. Also, each
year an annual prize of $2000 and a bronze medal is awarded to the most human computer. In
addition, to make things easy Loebner allowed each programmer to choose one topic for the
conversation. Robert Epstein is a behavioral psychologist. He was the person in charge of the
Loebners contest. The programmers who are going to participate in the contest are called
Confederates and Epstein explained that in order to fool the ten judges, the confederates must
work hard to convince the judges that they are human. In fact, the main purpose is to find out
whether ten judges could tell the difference between human and artificial intelligence. Charles
Platt, one of the confederates was introduced to Hugh Loebner during lunch one day. In their
conversation Platt asked Loebner why he does the contest especially in artificial intelligence and
if he does it with all his money? Loebner has his own business, Crown Industries. This industry
makes roll up plastic lighted portable disco dance floors. Therefore, Loebner has enough money to
pay for the contest. There are two reasons why Loebner does research for artificial intelligent. The

Benefits Of Playing With Toys
Did you play with toys? Do you remember which was your favorite toy or game? Surely most of
you do. You have special memories for some of them, don t you? Unfortunately, most of the today
s children do not remember their beloved toy from last year or do not want to play with it anymore.
Two are the reasons they are not interested and do not play with the same toy for a long time parents
buy more often new playthings, so they become easily bored. If we could see the world through
the kids eyes, what could we see? Everywhere toys blink, wink and expect to grab them.
There are numerous benefits of playing with toys they really can bring joy, learning, and creativity.
They are the main tools which help our inheritors to grow, discover their identity and develop their

Ask yourself: Should we follow this tendency to buy the most modern devices or unnecessary
things? Do your children need the new toy, or it will be added somewhere in the toy bucket?
It is scientifically proven, people need one two new things per week to satisfy their needs. And
the easiest way to get rid of this unhelpful for both sides habit is to establish rules of buying, which
could improve youngsters discipline and behavior. You can specify a day of the week the toy day,
when you can buy only one special and good toy, so your kid to expect and deserve it. To make it
like a game with a surprise. In this way, we help our children to choose useful games, this will lead
them to find new ways to play with the old ones.
It is clear, toys play an irreplaceable role for the better health and development of every child.
Let toys prepare our children for life but not to quit out their early ages. As though there is a contest
between our parental responsibilities and those of the toys. Staying behind the toy scene, maybe we
should understand children are not those who need this plenty of toys, but their busy

The Causes Of The Drought In California
The Drought in California has lasted about five years. California is an American state known for it
agricultural industry and large cities. It is on the West Coast near the Ocean as well. It is supposed
to get both rain and snowfall throughout the year, but the drought has prevented as sufficient
amount from occurring.
The drought was caused by overuse and over extraction from water tables and freshwater sources
for the commercial agricultural industry. The biggest cause, however, was a high pressure system
near the coast diverting storms away from California because it cannot rain California is in a
drought.
Due to this drought, many crops have dies leading to poverty for many farmers. People are lacking
clean drinking water forcing the state to bring it in from other states. Water tables are collapsing as
well.
To mitigate loss of life close monitoring of dry woods needs to occur that way if a forest fire starts
it can be put out easier, or the surrounding areas can evacuate more effectively.
People are also shifting away from grass lawns to save water from being wasted on something
purely for intrinsic value. They are also using less water for washing dishes and showering to
prevent the need for any more water extraction.
California is also importing more produce instead of growing it on their own to prevent
malnourishment and supplement the lack of produce being grown in state.
8. Hurricane/serious storm case study: discuss a serious hurricane or tropical storm. Where did it
hit and what impact did it have? How did/could weather monitoring mitigate loss?

New Orleans, Louisiana. It also hit parts of Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Mississippi and
Alabama.
It came onto land as a Category three hurricane with powerful windspeeds reaching more than 125
miles per hour.
New Orleans is a large city hit by Katrina with most the land being lower to sea level making It
prone to flooding. It is also has the Mississippi river flowing through it. There are many poverty
stricken neighborhoods usually in areas with more flooding.

The Impact Of Advancements Of Robotic Technology Essay
Abstract The purpose of this paper is to explore the impact of the advancements of robotic
technology in libraries. It provides a literature based background on the general state of robotics
and adds insights related to the library setting. Additionally, it looks into the factors that libraries
need to consider when planning to acquire robots, including finances, staff and technical
knowledge, space and charging facilities. Finally, it provides a quick look at how this technology
will affect both the libraries and communities. I. Introduction The concept of robots has been with
humans for a long time. From the robot knight plan of Leonardo da Vinci to the automatons of
Jacques de Vaucanson, to the robots created by several robotics companies, people have
demonstrated a fascination. The word robot came from the Czech word, robota which means
forced labor . In 1921, writer Karel Capek used it in his play entitled Rossum s Universal Robots
(R.U.R.). The credit for coming up with such term, however, goes to Josef Capek, his brother.
Presently, robot means a machine that performs complex actions, similar to humans or other
animals; also a machine that can perform repetitive tasks, guided by automatic controls. (Shulman
Buckley, 2014). Advances in technology have allowed the world to move forward in the creation of
these machines for various purposes. Libraries, being both learning and cultural hubs of societies,
have unique opportunities to introduce the idea of robots.

The Black Panther Tank Battalion Essay
The Black Panther Tank Battalion The 761st Black Panther Tank Battalion was the first African
American armored unit to see combat. Before and during mobilization for World War II, officials
in Washington, D.C., debated whether or not African American soldiers should be used in armored
units. Many military men and politicians believed that blacks did not have the brains, quickness or
moral stamina to fight in a war. Referring to his World War I experiences, Colonel James A. Moss,
commander of the 367th Infantry Regiment, 92nd Division, stated, quot;As fighting troops, the
Negro must be rated as second class material, this primarily to his inferior intelligence and lack of
mental and moral qualities. quot; Colonel Perry L. Miles,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In March 1941, 98 black enlisted men reported to Fort Knox, Ky., from Fort Custer, Mich., for
armored warfare training with the 758th Tank Battalion (light). The pioneer black tankers
trained in light tank operations, mechanics and related phases of mechanized warfare, as
enlisted men from other Army units joined their ranks. The 758th trained on the M 5 light tank,
which carried a crew of four. Powered by twin Cadillac engines, it could reach a maximum speed
of 40 mph and had an open road cruising range of 172 miles. It was armed with a .30 caliber
machine gun mounted to fire along the same axis as the tank s main armament, a 37mm cannon.
When the tracer bullets from the .30 caliber registered on a target, the cannon would be fired,
hopefully scoring a direct hit. The M 5 was also armed with two more .30 caliber machine guns,
one on the turret and one in the bow. The light tank was employed to provide fire support, mobility
and crew protection in screening and reconnaissance missions. The 5th Tank Group, commanded by
Colonel LeRoy Nichols, was to be made up of black enlisted personnel and white officers. With the
758th Tank Battalion in place, two more tank battalions were needed to complete the 5th Tank
Group. On March 15, 1942, the War Department ordered the activation of the 761st Tank Battalion

organizational theory Essay
Question #1
Despite the economic progress brought about in part by scientific management, critics were calling
attention to the seamy side of progress which included severe labor management conflict, apathy,
boredom, and wasted human resources to examine the discrepancy between how an organization
was supposed to work versus how the workers actually behaved. In addition, factors like World War
I, developments in psychology and later the depression, all bought into question, some of the basic
assumptions of Scientific Management. (Internet) This is where the Human Relations School steps
in. Its primary focus is the importance of attitudes and feelings of workers, while informal roles and

To Mayo, this was not only the key to organizational success, but also the goal to achieving social
stability. He also viewed informal group processes as the promoting tool for social integration, as
well as stopping absenteeism, turnover, and discontent among employees.
Another important person at this time was Chester Barnard, who combined practical experience in
management and corporate affairs with a complex and sophisticated theory of organization and
human behavior. His focus projected from an emphasis on the organization to an analysis of the
nature of an individual. He placed priority on tension between the organization and the individual
noting that ...organizations are constructed for particular purposes, but they employ individuals
who may have widely divergent objectives and desires. (Jaffe, 74) Barnard noted that cooperation
was needed for the organization to work effectively and efficiently. He discussed in his book, The
Functions of the Executive, the relationship between incentives and contributions, and the need to
join these together to meet an equilibrium of some sort. He claimed that this system would satisfy
individuals and obtain contributions from them while at the same time making everyone happy. To
do this, he used distribution hoping to gain cooperative activity from the employees. The executive
needs to note that distribution can be good in one situation but

desire to expand the Jesuit missionaries throughout the region to further their belief. For many years
until the 18th century, the Jesuits expanded and created many missionaries throughout the region.

missionaries in the region were under any threat. Even though this was what he was ordered to do,
this did not last very long as the French under Page began to take over more provinces. On April
13th, 1862 the Vietnamese ceded three additional provinces to the French. Then just a year later,
the king of Cambodia exchanged control over the Battambang and the Siem Reap for French
protection over Cambodia from the threatening Asian powers. Things would remain relatively under
control for the French until 1884 when the Chinese would challenge the French s ambition to
control the Tonkin region (Northern Vietnam.) The first of many wars to follow in between the
19th and 20th century for the French was the Sino French war which lasted between 1884 and

  • 2. Fashion s Influence On Fashion When one thinks of a genre they think of a book or a type of music. Genre can be thought of as a category of art. Fashion is a form of art, artists everyday are creating works that they feel people will wear and like. Fashion is a huge industry with thousands of designers that makes billions of dollars per year. Whether people realize it or not, every single person has a sense of style and has their own taste in clothing. With fashionthere are different genres ranging from chic to bohemian to sporty. Along with different genres of fashion, there are different genres of brands. With these two genres combined, an examination of the correlation of the brands with the style of fashion will be examined. The first genre of fashion we are going to examine is a style called chic . Chic is a French word that means classy. When the word chic crosses my mind, I picture a girl standing in the streets of New York City dressed up from head to toe looking her finest. Most chic clothes cover the body of the person wearing them and makes them look a bit classier than others. BB Dakota is a brand that is considered chic, it is on the lower of the scale of prices of clothes. Most of their clothes have been seen in top boutiques and in department stores. Celebrities such as Taylor Swift and others have been seen wearing this brand. It was first founded 30 years ago in Southern California by a French designer. She limits the buyers of her clothing because she wants them to be unique and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of The Book Young Goodman Brown And The... Nathaniel Hawthorne and Washington Irving are two of the most prolific and successful writers of their era. Hawthorne s, Young Goodman Brown is a story about a man, Goodman Brown who happens to set out on a trip for an evil purpose. On the way he meets a man who offers him his staff, saying that it might help him walk faster, but Goodman Brown refuses and wishes to return back to his village for the sake of his wife, Faith. On the other hand, Irving s, The Devil and Tom Walker is about an individual who lets his greed and selfishness take charge of him. Tom Walker, a greedy man, attempts to make a deal with a devil. Tom seeks wealth and in return the devil asks for his soul. In both stories, the authors express their feelings and views about staying away from indulgence and sin. In spite of all the difference among Hawthorne s, Young Goodman Brownand Irving s, The Devil and Tom Walker, they share salient similarities such as setting, symbolism, and author s purpose. To begin with, Hawthorne and Irving portray a similar use of setting in their works of literature. Both authors illustrate a gloomy setting which takes place in remote areas of Massachusetts around the same period of time. For instance, The Devil and Tom Walker takes place in a historical area settled by Quakers and Puritans where religion and virtue is widespread among the people. However, much of the setting of the narrative takes place in a deep inlet winding several miles into the Charles Bay, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Modest Proposal Rhetorical Analysis During the late seventeenth century, political pamphlets were distributed throughout Ireland to promote the ideas of various intellectuals and laymen. However, many discarded them and did not pay attention to them. Jonathan Swift, author of A Modest Proposal, takes lead for these unnoticed pamphlets and builds a proposal he thinks would help Irelandeconomy. A Modest Proposalis an ironic example that presents the attitude of rich towards poor and their starving kids. Jonathan uses various elements like metaphors, repetitions, irony and parallelism to focus on destructive defiance of the writing. Jonathan swiftstarts by blaming the mothers of these children that they should start working and get some earning to support these kids. He also foretells the future of these children that they will turn into thieves or sell themselves to foreign countries for money. According to Swift, it is just because the parents did not train their children the unassertive way of life and could not give them a proper lifestyle. In A Modest Proposal Jonathan Swift does not blame the shortcomings of Ireland on the people. He says that the people, politicians, and English were all to be at fault for the terrible state and poverty of Ireland. there are three factors that make Swift s argument not serious: the tone of the author, his insincerity, and ridiculousness of the proposal. Swift states that because these women kept having children and could not provide food to them, the economy of Ireland and standard of living couldn t improve. So, he makes a proposal to the public that he thinks would be beneficial for them. His way of thinking and argument is incorrect in what he is proposing as He marks that young healthy children are delicious food to be roasted, stewed and boiled to be served and eaten by rich British people. Similarly, he estimates that twenty thousand kids should be held in reserve for breeding purposes. This brutalizes how children should be treated like animals. Jonathan swift trying to support his argument, in a very sarcastic way states that certain body parts of children are good to eat and on special occasions could be held on demand. furthermore, he advises that healthy and nourished kids could be ... • 7. John M. Bracke And Karen B. Tye In Teaching The Bible Introduction John M. Bracke and Karen B. Tye in Teaching the Bible in the Church provides insight about, How do we teach the Bible in ways that form and transform persons and the Church? Authors, assert there is an increasing number of people that are Bible illiterate. They state many Seminary students have diminutive familiarity of biblical stories of the text. The authors contend that the purpose of the church and the core of Christian Discipleship is based upon scripture. The authors allude to the notion that in order to fulfill the great commission as well as raise up future generations to be more Bible literate as well as ethically sound, the Bible must be taught in the Church. Bracke and Tye reminds and cautions readers that many assumptions are made when teaching the Bible. After gaining facts in scripture, teachers must delve further, so students are transformed. Authors argue that it is not sufficient in just providing information, but that an encounter with God should be experienced. Writers caution teachers to not assume when Scripture is taught, something new is to be uncovered. Bracke and Tye correspondingly introduce the notion of culture and the affect it has on learners in the matter in which they receive and process information. Authors encourage teachers of the Bible to utilize Biblical Scholarship when teaching. They argue that teachers have a responsibility when making sense of text and when used appropriately, scholarship is a great ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Complexity Theory Research Paper What is it about complexity theory that I think is so important for everyone to consider? It has to do with the power of outliers. Next I ll speak on a topic that arose for me as I taught in public schools in the 1970s and 80s. During that time we had some students who regularly disrupted classes, we sent them to the office, and if they were bad enough they were suspended from school. Students like this were relatively rare. The systems of public education have gone on for 20 or 30 years in the same vein. Today if students disrupt class, they are sent to the office, and if this happens often enough, they are suspended from school. Unfortunately, everywhere in the Western world, teachers report that this is much more frequent and prevalent that it was when I was working in classrooms. Complexity theory tells us that there is a norm of activity that exists in any field of interactions. In my example, that is the norm students in schools. However there are also always outliers whose activity appears at first random, chaotic, and disruptive. Science has taught us that these outliers with their random chaotic and disruptive pattern, if watched long enough, will create a complex new possibility. They call these fractals. Let us just consider that idea. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What if we had asked ourselves seriously what we needed change in order to make some fully engaged? What if we had started to change our behaviour as teachers? What if we had begun to learn how to include multimedia in our presentations? What if we had asked their opinion on what they wanted to be learning? Is it possible, that because of schools and teachers, who would have by now (after 30 years of experience) built flexibility into the standard mode of operation, education would be better prepared to face modern students who have grown up with computers and ... • 9. Pros And Cons Of The Scientific Revolution Scientific Revolution In 16th and 17th century Europe, the Scientific Revolution was occurring. This meant that intellectuals were beginning to create meaning of the universe through mathematics and sciences. Their new ideas clashed with the ideas of the late medieval times, like Scholasticism and Aristotelian philosophy. The ideas of natural philosophers like Tycho Brahe, Rene Descartes, Galileo Galilei, and Copernicus emerged to provide new interpretations of the world through science and math. During the Scientific Revolution, social factors like sexism specifically hindered scientific work for females, while political leadership and religion both had the ability to hinder and encourage scientific work. Scientific work was encouraged by social factors like religion through religious people who believed that science could contribute to proving God s greatness, and was also promoted through political leaders. Not all religious people believed that scientific work was harming the thinking of others, in fact, some believed it would help people achieve a greater understanding of God. For example, John Calvin believed that astronomy was beneficial and should be continued because it reveals God s wisdom (Doc. 2). During a time period where the belief in God was still prevalent, Calvin s purpose in speaking about the advantages of astronomy was to teach believers that not all science is bad, some sciences may help people understand God. Scientific work was also encouraged through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Culture Of Circle A Builders The culture of Circle A Builders is very important to us. As stated previously, we do not strive to be the largest builder in the area. Our company culture is to be honest, respectful, trustworthy, and to work hard for our customer. We strive to be a member of their building team. This culture has made it feasible for us to create long lasting relationships with customers who feel comfortable calling us for any size job, not feeling as if we are unapproachable. They appreciate our employees, knowing that if Jerry is unable to be at a jobsite that our employees will do just as good of a job for them, or call Jerry if they have questions. Our work team culture is relaxed, but with the expectation that it is okay to have fun, but the job needs to be done by the end of the day. Our employees understand that they each take a part in the responsibility of getting the job done and having satisfied customers. Strategic Intent As stated previously, our strategic intent is to remain the size we are. We have the ability to grow, but we feel most comfortable at the size we are. We understand that if we grow, we will have increased responsibility to our employees, and our overhead will grow. We are at a comfortable, manageable size for us. It has taken us a long time to become a strategically sound business. This also continues to allow us to invest in our alternate course, including rentals and investment properties. To truly understand the scope of Aboriginal self government within First Nations communities, more effort is needed to understand the legislative system that runs Canada. This issue of self governance has been very destructive in First Nations communities. • 14. The Solar And Integrated Photovoltaic Panels That Generate... One of the most innovative and interesting ideas in renewable energy to hit the streets in recent years, happens to actually be the streets! I m talking about roadways with integrated photovoltaic panels that generate electricity! The basic concept of this technology is actually quite interesting. With over 2.5 million miles of paved roadway throughout the United States alone, even covering a fraction of those roadway surfaces with solar panels could generate enormous amounts of clean energy. There are currently two different approaches to the solar panel roadway concept, both of which are currently in the Research and Development stages with prototypes already deployed. First, a company aptly named Solar Roadways here in the United States, founded by Scott Brusaw, a US Marine Veteran turned Electrical Engineer and his wife. Their concept replaces traditional paved roads with 4 square foot hexagonal arrays. Each interlocking panel is individually replaceable, removing just four retaining bolts and a single electrical/data connection. The Solar Roadways design requires a sophisticated sub surface road bed with steel support columns and poured concrete with one side designated to channel water runoff and provide drainage. The other side, large enough to support underground telecommunication lines, electric power lines, DC AC converters, roadway panel wiring and still allow for a man to fit inside to perform required servicing. These panels incorporate photovoltaic cells, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Middle Class Life During The Industrial Revolution The Middle Class Life during The Industrial Revolution began in England around the 1780 s. It was mainly based on the cotton industry and subsequently many of the inventions that came out of this period were mainly for producing and manufacturing cotton. Another stage of the Industrial Revolution was based on inventions. This is when most of the luxury goods were produced for the public. The Industrial Revolution is seen by scholars, as noted in A History of Western Society, as basically moderate and evolutionary. This was very important because this raised the standard of living for the average families. It was like giving a cookie to a child, the child would always want another one. As soon as the families experienced the better life they will always strive to achieve that same quality of life. There were many important developments to the cotton industry that came about due to the Industrial Revolution. The problem the cotton industry had was due to inadequate machinery or the lack of machinery. Clothes and other things that came from the cotton industry were being produced way too slowly and the price of the material was way too expensive for the average family. The first problem was that yarn was not being fed fast enough to the weaver, but in 1769, two new inventions solved the problem, the spinning jenny and the water powered frame, both of which provided yarn faster. Edmund Cartwright, who invented the power loom, combined the machine s characteristics and purposes into one machine in 1800. Cleaning cotton was also a tedious and time consuming job, so in 1793, Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin, which could clean cotton 50 times faster than the previous outdated methods. Many people would actually walk around in filthy garments all of their lives but because of the new inventions they could afford to buy undergarments. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, white people and black people cannot be categorized two different types of people when white people bring many disadvantages on black people because they only have different thoughts. Because all people are human beings, they should be treated equally and respectfully to make the society become fair. However, in the article To Kill a Mockingbird, Jem said, There s four kinds of folks in the world. There s the ordinary folks like us and the neighbors, there s the kind like the Cunninghams out in the woods, the kind like the Ewells down at the dump, and the Negroes. (Lee 302). Remember that the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) is a projective test in which a person is presented with a series of ambiguous pictures and composes a story. It is an apperception test because the person reports not what he or she sees but rather a narrative or imaginary interpretation (Murray, 1938, p. 324). Personality characteristics varied in areas such as the internalized values and attitudes, their external expression, and inflated self esteem. The results concluded that adolescent sexual offender is characterized as a unique individual, a result of a stunted developmental process.
