This document discusses Giardia intestinalis, an intestinal parasite that causes diarrhea and malabsorption in humans and other animals. It causes the infection giardiasis. The document then discusses pyroptosis, a form of programmed cell death involved in the innate immune response. There are three pathways of pyroptosis: classical, non-classical, and novel. The purpose of the study is to investigate how the Giardia VSPAS7 protein attenuates Giardia-induced host macrophage pyroptosis. ELISA and western blot were used to detect the presence of the VSPAS7 protein and inflammatory cytokines. Transfection of eukaryotic vectors and immunofluorescence assays were also used.
