Video Editing Essay
TASK 1 PROPOSAL (Typed document minimum 1000 words)
Special investigation into editing
I will be talking about editing work through the industry of media, we will start some of the
software that is used in the industry today, these include, Premier pro, Avid, and final cut, avid
has always been a strong editing software in the industry, but as some technology rises and falls
premier pro is just edging the gap into the industry, as regular updates of this software make it
the better choice for editing films together as different filters, transitions and bugs with in the
software are updated, for the software to be crisp. Final cut on the other hand is mostly use by
educational establishments for training people to use software like this in the future as in the last
few years final cut has dropped down in consumer use as it is not been updated and is less
consumer friendly for use then premier and avid, This is reason for it being used in education.
Methodology of Video Editing
There are several different ways to edit video and each method has its pros and cons. Although
most editors go for non linear editing for most projects, it makes sense to have an understanding of
how each method works, as some people prefer different options or how some look, i.e Vintage
Film Splicing
film editing was the first way to edit moving pictures and conceptually it forms the basis of all
video editing, as film had to be spliced and put together back in the day.

Summary Of In The Road To Evergreen By Rachael Stryker
In The Road to Evergreen by Rachael Stryker is an interesting eye catching ethnography that
emphasizes on the psychiatric disorder on adopted children called RAD, also known as reactive
attachment disorder. Reactive attachment disorder Describes children who are considered to be
unable or unwilling to bond with parental (most often mother) figures (Stryker 3). The reason why
these particular children are unable to form a bond with their primary familyis because in their past
relationships formed with their birth parents, if any, have been either neglected or abused in both
a physical and or mental way. So, in the end, the child is left with RAD and their new adopted
families are the ones who have to get help for them in hope for a noticeable... Show more content on

Kinship is the study of relationships or kin, therefore is an important role on how a person
behaves as well as form attachments with other groups i.e. new family members. A great
example of this is the movie we watched in class called The Dark Matter Of Love. Masha had a
very difficult time adjusting with her new family because she couldn t understand them and the
family felt overwhelmed with 3 adopted children from Russia and you could tell by the way the
parents acted. But, overtime she and the other two adoptees learned to love, care ad be happy
with their family. Which goes to show that once you adjust and take things at a slow and steady
pace that everything turns out for the best. I also believe this goes in hand with Stryker s central
argument that if new parents had the same way of thinking like the Diaz s, that maybe they
wouldn t reach the point of distress and turn to the evergreen model. Stryker s main point is that
there are different ways to get help for your child, and that you don t need to basically torture them
for them to love

Special Forces Soldiers Used in Book, The Ugly American by...
Special Forces soldiers work in foreign lands with situations which are not always completely
clear from its beginning. The Special Operation Imperatives serve as the base for success by
providing the framework to develop and assist the host nation in achieving their desired goals.
Through this essay I will use the novel The Ugly American(William J. Lederer Eugene Burdick) to
provide context to the benefits of applying such imperatives and the consequences of improper
application. I will bring to light the actions of the characters and depict the reasons why the
application of the imperative made the character succeed or fail in his desired goal.
The first character that I will discuss is Honorable Louis Sears, American Ambassador to... Show

He informed the prince that he personally did not care about the resemblance to him in the picture,

A third failure in understanding the operational environment occurred when Sears coordinated the
delivery of rice from Haidho to the stricken area in Sarkhan. His lack of understanding of the
Sarkhanese and communist tactics was reciprocated by his subordinates. The latter became evident
when the rice bags were labeled as if coming from the communists and no USIS employee realized
what it meant. In addition, there was no effort from US employees to talk or interact with locals at
the destination. The confusion led the Sarkhanese to believe that the rice bags in fact were
provided by the communists.
A good description of Sears failure in understanding the operational environment was provided by
Ambassador Louis Krupitzyn on his report to Moscow. Krupitzyn wrote how Sears kept his
subordinates away from the Sarkhanese and didn t allow them to go into the hills. This disconnect
between the American employees and the Sarkhanese provided Moscow with the ability to freely
connect with the population and turn the table

Essay Joseph Heller s Catch 22 and World War II
In all of history, no war seems to have touched the minds of people everywhere as much as World
War II has. This war brought about some of the worst violations of human rights ever seen. The
German military created a system for the public to follow, and if the individual opposed, he was
oppressed. This kind of mentality is presented in the novel, Catch 22(1955).
Joseph Heller uses the insane situations of the setting and his characters to show a unique
perspective on World War II.
A small Army Air Corps base serves as the setting for Catch 22. It is set on a fictitious island called
Pianosa. The island is described as very small and is located in ... Show more content on

This is why the military is able to make the soldiers do whatever they want them to do. The
characters are persuaded to believe in the system rather than oppose it. Yossarianseems to be the
only one who sees the insanity of this situation.
This scenario is almost like the one initiated by Adolph Hitler in Germany at this time.
Hitler saw the people of Germany as impressionable and easily swayed. He used propaganda to
make them do whatever he wanted. It was through this course of action that 6 million Jewish
people were mass murdered. Heller makes it all the more ironic that this same kind of mentality
is being used by the American military in his novel, and he projects his attitude towards war
through this irony. Heller portrays the military as a self contradictory and oppressive force. He
sees the military as taking away a soldier s individuality.
The struggle for individuality by each character is evident throughout the novel. Their experiences
make the scenario believable to the reader. Each character represents an attitude in the system.
Milo Minderbinder and Colonel Cathcart are great representatives of the military. To them, the
soldiers are seen as tools to further their careers. Milo Minderbinder, a military authority figure, is
in charge of business decisions made during the war. He uses his powers to create a syndicate

Nervous Conditions by Tsitsi Dangarembga
Quietly, unobtrusively and extremely fitfully, something in my mind began to assert itself, to
question things, and to refuse to be brainwashed... The main character, Tambudzai, in the novel
Nervous Conditions by Tsitsi Dangarembga, is determined to get a white educationwithout losing
her native tongue and ways. However this proves to be more difficult that she would expect and
seeds that are planted in her mind by the whites begin to take shape, and greatly affect her
existence. I will begin by giving an overview of the story leading up to the point where Tambu
heads off to begin her education at the missionary school. Next I show how Tambu has already been

It is not until later in the novel that Tambu realizes that she had been brainwashed to believe that
the white educational system was better than her villages black education system, and that the
white ways are better than her villages ways. This is reflected in her uncle Babamukuru, who is
looked upon as a being of higher status by those in African culture because he is educated, but his
education taught him white ideas, therefore his transformation from African to white caused other
blacks to view him as being higher up then they are. Tambu wants badly to help her family escape
poverty, but does not realize that they only way to do that is to follow the white s ideas outlined
for her throughout her education. She wants to be able to avoid conforming to the cultural ideas
held by the whites, all the while using their education to get ahead. However the avoidance of
brainwashing is not as simple as she thinks.
Tambu decided that she did not want to be brainwashed like her brother. Tambu first noticed the
effect that brainwashing had on her brother Nhamo when he returned on school vacation to their
homestead. She disapproved of her brother because he renounced the family life, as he had been
brainwashed to believe that since there standard of living did not meet the expectations of a white
standard of living then their standard of living must be bad. Nhamo shows increasing contempt for
manual labor. He also shows a new inherent dislike

Les Demoiselles D Avignon
Les Demoiselles d Avignon Les Demoiselles d Avignon (The Young Ladies of Avignon, and
originally titled The Brothel of Avignon) is a large oil painting of 1907 by the Spanish artist
Pablo Ruiz Picasso (1881 1973). The work portrays five nude female prostitutes from a brothel on
AvinyГі Street in Barcelona. Each figure is depicted in a disconcerting confrontational manner and
none are conventionally feminine. The women appear as slightly menacing and rendered with
angular and disjointed body shapes. Two are shown with African mask like faces and three more
with faces in the Iberian style of Picasso s native Spain, giving them a savage aura. In this
adaptation of Primitivism and abandonment of perspective in favor of a flat, two dimensional...

While he already had a considerable following by the middle of 1906, Picasso enjoyed further
success with his paintings of massive over sized nude women, monumental sculptural figures

Consequences Of Rote Learning And Cramming
Consequences of rote learning and cramming, seen through the lens of a South Korean
Education systems in Asia are often characterized to be more overwhelming for students, compared
to Western countries. In South Korea, students are pressured to ascend through high competition to
enter a top tier university to get a good job. To be superior than others in test scores, which are
fundamental in getting into a good university, Korean students often use cramming style and rote

standardized tests which can be taken several times, this test can only be taken once a year, which
means that a student is delayed a full year if he does not do well on his first test (Park). This
pressures the Korean students are thus pressured by the importance of this test and they become
heavily immersed in studying since an early age, which leads to stress and discontent. According to
a survey released by the Institute for Social Development Studies in Yonsei University, Korean
teenagers turned out to be the unhappiest among the countries listed in the Organization for
Economic Co operation and Development, mainly due to exam results and extreme tiredness from
studying ( We Don t Need Quite so Much Education ). Also, in 2009, the suicide rate among young
Koreans was 15 per 100,000, which is much larger than 10 in America and 7 in China. Kim Jieun, a
Korean student who took the College Scholastic Ability test a few years ago, have narrated that, I
thought of emigrating. I hate the education system so much. ( The One shot society ). Living such
life, with a fixed routine, is enough to give students unbearable amount of stress.

Three Causes Of The Boxer Rebellion
The Boxer Rebellion was an uprising initiated in China, after the Chinese suffered many
devastating defeats at the hands of foreign powers. Originating in the 1900 s, a secret organisation
called the Society of the Righteous and Harmonious Fists, began carrying out attacks on Chinese
Christians and foreigners. They became known in the West as the boxers , for their martial arts
fighting style. What caused the Boxer Rebellion? There were three main causes.
The first cause for the Boxer Rebellion, was the anti foreign stance in China. As a result of suffering
humiliating defeats in both the first, and second Opium wars, China was forced to grant
concessions to foreigners. Furthermore, they had to sign the unequal treaties which allowed the
West to gain a significant amount of control over China. This left the Chinese population poverty
stricken, and angry at foreign powers. The economy became disrupted by the arrival of modernity
and industrialism. According to historian David Silbey Many Chinese worked in industries that
were disrupted by the arrival of the railroad and the telegraph. There was a sense that China s
balance had been thrown out of whack by these modern innovations, and only by destroying the
innovations and the foreigners who brought them could the balance be restored. . The Chinese
regarded the West as foreign devils , and wished to retain sovereignty and independence. They were
extremely nationalistic. Mark Twain addressed the boxer rebellion in 1900.

Essay On Importance Of Community Service
Importance of Community Service
Community service is an important component of a business s social responsibility. Everyone
belongs to a community, and it is our moral obligation to help those who cannot take care of
themselves. Providing these citizens with food, medical assistance, clothing, and shelter helps keep
the community safe and healthy. In addition, people will be less likely to commit crimes in order
to gain basic necessities if they are offered help instead. By giving back to the communities they are
located in, businesses can improve their image and gain the respect of local citizens. Therefore,
community service can be a very profitable business venture. People can develop several important
business skills through community service, such as teamwork, leadership, communication, and
problem solving. Community service can also be an excellent way for individuals to network with
others and discover new business opportunities.

Summary Of The Paranoid Style In American Politics
The Prevalence of Political Paranoia
In the controversial essay, which was first published in the November 1964 issue of Harper s
Magazine, The Paranoid Style in American Politics, Richard Hofstadter argues how the prevalence
of paranoia in American politics has dominated the country. Hofstadter asserts American politics
have been governed by paranoia since the creation of the United States, and it has manifested itself
into the minds of both average and intellectuals Americans. He contends that paranoia has played a
pivotal role in American politics by fostering fear in citizens regarding issues such as gender,
ethnicity, race, and religion and proclaims the reason fear is heightened in citizens has more to do
with the style in which panic is spread than any other factor. Furthermore, the author claims the sole
issue dictating American politics is not simply paranoia, but rather a problem internationally
caused, primarily, through misconceptions and false imaginations. Hofstadter also explores the
affiliation paranoia has to power, to corruption, and to the government. Additionally, he examines
the reasoning behind many skeptics and paranoids in the country today and describes the
techniques with which they spread panic and hysteria, through methods such as books, speeches,
and media. The Paranoid Style in American Politics, by Richard Hofstadter, demonstrates the
critical role paranoia plays in dictating American politics through the utilization of academic diction,
anecdotal evidence, logical appeals, an explanatory tone, and chronological organization.
Hofstadter employs a scholastic tone by incorporating academic diction into his essay, to establish
credibility when discussing paranoia and its roots in American politics. When examining paranoia,
Hofstadter argues that it establishes a greater affinity for bad causes than good (Hofstadter 77).
Through this phrase, and the language Hofstadter applies, it can be concluded that the intended
audience for this piece is intellectuals. The author s diction and tone identify Hofstadter s belief of
paranoia doing little to spark progressive change in America, but rather hindering the development
of policies and activities which would combat real problems.

The Lack of Insight in Schizophrenia
The Lack of Insight in Schizophrenia
In my lifetime, I have spent months with my Grandmother, Florence Ernstead, who is a diagnosed
paranoid delusional schizophrenic. During this time I have realized that schizophrenics have
difficulty realizing the seriousness of their disorders. This inability to acknowledge a problem is
known by psychiatrists as lack of insight.
Many psychotic patients, especially schizophrenics, display a lack of insight into their disorder
(Keefe 9). Lack of insight refers to an unawareness of having a disorder, unawareness of having
psychotic symptoms, and a refusal of treatment. Some scientists include other more specific aspects
such as patients views on cause of their disorder and/or symptoms, ... Show more content on

Lack of insight is definitely correlated with frontal lobe abnormalities as shown by studies of
anosognosia and Alzheimer s disease. There is a possibility, then, that anosognosia and
schizophrenia have a common cause for lack of insight (Ghaemi 786). There are other neurological
impairments in schizophrenics. According to Husted, studies have shown that many patients with
schizophrenia have small hippocampi, enlarged ventricles, and possibly communication damage
between the hippocampus and cerebral cortex. Unfortunately, there is not enough evidence to for
any of these abnormalities including frontal lobe dysfunction to be necessary or sufficient for the
diagnosis of schizophrenia (37). Many scientists have found some association between frontal lobe
dysfunction and schizophrenia, but just as many have also found no association. Dickerson,
Boronow, Ringel, and Parente did comprehensive neuropsychological testing including the
Vocabulary, Arithmetic, Digit Span, Block Design, and Digit Span subtests of the patient, the

The Raven, By Edgar Allen Poe
n the discussions of Edgar Allen Poe s The Raven, one issue has been the explanation of the bird
and it s presence in the poem. Majority agrees that the feathered creature does have a symbolic
meaning of the conscious mind of the speaker in the poem. The agreement usually ends with how
we communicate with our selves. Some focus more on who or what a person is talking to with their
conscious while others direct their attention to how we can better understand our conscious
conversations with our selves. Any time someone thinks, their brain has a special, designated voice
for their thoughts. This voice, allows an individual to in some degree, have a conversation with
their self, without necessarily communicating out loud. This voice in our heads has had numerous
names throughout the years, such as a person s conscious or recently has been called the self.
Many researchers have wanted to know who and or what the actual voice is that we hear in our
conversations. Richard Rass author of Introduction to Perspectives on the Self: Conversations on
Identity and Consciousness, explains that self has assumed radically different meanings...
throughout the years (Rass 2). Knowing what self is and why it helps enlighten our lives is apart
of the journey. Rass stated that the self or conscious could play a role in knowing humans

She is carried off into the expressionist labyrinth that Wiene used to symbolize the darkest torments
of the human mind and soul. A beautiful woman is carried off by evil, a play on the

Used expressionism, films that explored dream, nightmare and psyche and that found their
narrative shape determined less by action than emotion. Used angular sets and heavy shadows to
develop a macabre and horrific atmosphere for its tale of murder and madness. The Cabinet of Dr.
Caligari intentionally uses sets that look artificial. The deliberate distortions were meant to portray
what a tormented soul might perceive. German expressionism, known as dada, and surrealism

Social Contract Theory On The Origin Of State
SOCIAL CONTRACT THEORY
1. INTRODUCTION:
The social contract theory is one of the oldest theories on the origin of state. This theory came into
existence as a reaction against the divine origin theory. The term social is something which is
connected with the society, while contract means an agreement between two or more people. Thus
a term of political theory, social contract implies an agreement that makes society possible .this
theory holds that the state is the voluntary and deliberate agreement on the part of the people
those who emerged from the state of nature, in order to form a state based on a contract between
the people and the sovereign and is not made by the god and thus implies that the state is a
man`s deliberate creation to serve his needs. The core idea behind this theory is an assumption
that there was a period in human history, when there was no state at all and no political law
existed. The idea that the power to the ruler is given based on some kind of agreement between
him and his subjects is quite old. The social contract theory envisages a state of nature where
there were no organised government and rulers. There were no man made laws and no authority
to govern the people .the state of nature was prepolitical the idea of social contract divides the
state into two phases, i.e. one is the state of nature which was the life of the people before the state
came into existence and second is the creation of the state as a result of the contract entered

Consumer Culture Essay
Consumer culture is a fundamental part of many modern societies across the world, influencing a
wide a range of areas from politics to economics and identity. Consumption is viewed as
significantly powerful force in the economy and therefore understanding consumption and
consumer culture is a vitally important resource both for the benefit of the economyand the
individual. Consumer culture theory aims to understand the behaviours and attitudes of consumers
from a sociological perspective, as opposed the economic mindset in which consumer culture is
usually viewed. Consumer culture theory attempts this through understanding the relationships
between consumer actions, the marketplace, and cultural meanings (Arnould and Thompson, 2005).

Individuals use possession to create and maintain identity, however the identity an individual creates
through consumption of goods can not always be controlled (Friedman, 2005). An obvious example
being clothing, an individual may purchase clothing that they believe makes them look fashionable
but the items could in fact cause other to perceive them as unfashionable and out of date.
The value of items is created by consumers through the meanings they attach to said items.
companies can try to influence the meanings attached to items but the overall meaning and value
attached to items is by the individual (McCracken, 1986). This also means that different items can
have different cultural value and meanings to different individuals. some items may have no
external value but have very significant value to an individual, for example family heirlooms or
photos. this personal value however does not transfer between individuals and while some items
may hold strong value for an individual the item itself is not a commodity that can be exchanged
and retain its value (Howard, 1999). gift exchange is an important aspect of consumer culture, gift
exchange involves the idea of reciprocity. In a gift economy gift exchange creates social bonds and

Analysis Of The Article The American Crisis By Thomas...
Paine is Temporary but Pride is Forever
The article by Thomas Paine comes from the collection his work titled The American Crisis. In it
Paine uses numerous rhetorical strategies to persuade the American colonists to secede from Great
Britain. Through his use of ethos and logos Paine is able to connect with his audience emotionally
and logically. He also calls on their patriotism and belief in God to commit his audience to his cause.
His work addresses the concerns he has about the oppressive British Empire controlling the
colonies. Paine s article is appropriately titled The American Crisis. Therefore, his audience is the
American colonists. The tone Paine has is highly impassioned. His use of strong embellishing
language helps emphasize the importance of his cause. He capitalizes words such as freedom tax ,
now and God to show that they are key subjects.
Paine first connects with his audience emotionally by using an appeal to the colonial s
patriotism. Paine s article begins with one of his most famous quotes, These are times that try
men s soul . He makes this statement to prove to his audience that he is aware of the difficulties
that Americans will face. He is aware that the sunshine patriot will shrink from service in the midst
of these challenging times. However, he promises love and thanks for those men who can stand it
. Paine guarantees the soldiers who will stay that they will receive glory as proof that their goals
were worth their sacrifices.

Why Should Lance Armstrong Be Banned
Everyone has heard of Lance Armstrong, famous cyclist who won Tour de France 7 consecutive

blood doping and drug use. Lance Armstrong was stripped of his title and bronze Olympic medal
for the illegal athletic gain and his reputation went to absolute shambles. Steroid use in
professional sports is not allowed and results in consequences, varying by sport; but in the
Olympics, as The Baltimore Sun states, it takes two positive drug tests to be banned for life from

Squat Exercise Essay
The Squat exercise workout for Power
This workout uses the squat exercise to increase your power for the Squat event in Powerlifting.
We will explain the proper form for the Squat and the benefits of the Squat also.
The proper form for the Squat exercise begins with bar placement. You want to have the bar rest
on your traps, not your neck. By squeezing your shoulder blades together, you create a shelf on
the top of your traps. Position the bar on top of this shelf and across the rear deltoids. Hold it in
place by gripping the bar with a hand spacing that is comfortable for you, and tucking your elbows
under the bar.
The next step in proper form for the Squat is stance. Now that you have the bar in position, take a

Leading Indicators
The assigned readings for Unit 2 (Chapters 2, 3 and 6) cover the effects of workplace accidents,
accident theories, and workers compensation. In professional safety practice, the topics covered
in this unit generally include a discussion of safety metrics . Measuring safety performance is a
mixed bag of calculating and reviewing data associated with lagging indicators and leading
indicators . By definition, lagging indicators are output oriented, easy to measure and calculate, but
not improvable since they are measures of what already occurred (i.e., losses in the form of
accidents, property damage, or loss of life). In contrast, leading indicators are input oriented and
represent preventative measures taken to improve overall safetyand reduce the occurrence of
incidents and injuries.
Lagging indicators allude to the health of a company s safety program and performance in the
form of past accident and incident statistics, such as lost workers compensation costs, injury
frequency, injury severity, OSHA recordables, near misses, spills/releases or Experience
Modification Rate (EMR). In general, lagging indicators have been traditionally used to indicate

The Effect Of Angular Momentum On Classical Mechanics
INTRODUCTION
We know the importance of Angular Momentum in Classical Mechanics; the total angular
momentum of an isolated physical system is a constant of the motion. For example, if a point
particle P, of mass m, is moving in a central potential (one which depends only on the distance
between P and a fixed point O), the force to which P is subjected is always directed towards O. Its
moment with respect to O is consequently zero, and the angular momentum theorem implies that
derivative of L (Angular momentum of P with respect to O) with respect to time is zero.
This fact has important consequences: the motion of the particle P is limited to a fixed plane (the
plane passing through O and perpendicular to the angular momentum L); moreover, this motion
obeys the law of constant areal velocity (Kepler s Second Law).
All these properties have their equivalents in Quantum Mechanics. With the angular momentum L
of a classical system is associated with an observable L, actually a set of three observables, Lx, Ly,
and Lz, which correspond to the three components of L in a Cartesian Frame. These three
observables commute with the Hamiltonian H for a particle in the central potential V(r). This
property simplifies the determination and classification of eigenstates of H.
Quantization of Angular Momentum: the component, along a fixed axis, of the intrinsic angular
momenta are quantized, which enables us to understand atomic magnetism, the Zeeman Effect, etc.

Essay On Greek Immigration
For this assignment, I decided to focus my research on Greek immigrants. As I was reading page
797, I noticed the author mentioned, Greek restaurant owners provided a selection of American and
Greek cuisines. It was also mentioned, Greek immigration most profoundly impacted mainstream
foodservice (pg.797). I found these facts to be of great importance when discussing foodchoices,
therefore I wanted to do more research on Greek Immigrants. I learned, after migrating to the United
States, many Greek families claimed Michigan as their new home. More specifically, Greektown,
located in Detroit, Michigan. I also discovered Germans were actually the first to settle in
Greektown, then once they moved out, Greeks families began settling in this area. During the late
1800 s through the early 1900 s, a large population of immigrants from Greece emigrated to the
United States. To get a better perspective, I viewed an older book written in 1911 titled, Greek...

The Transformation Of Enkidu And Gilgamesh
Gilgamesh starts out as an immature, cruel and emotionally stunted character. He is described as
young and borne along by emotion by the elders of the city of Uruk before embarking on a
foolhardy and dangerous mission (II 289). Enkidu was created by the gods to be the equal of
Gilgamesh, one mighty in strength (MB Ni, pg. 4). Both Enkiduand Gilgamesh grow as characters;
doors represent transitions and mark key points where both characters mature. At these points they
are put on the path towards discovering what they should do with their lives and how they should
approach the concept of death. These transitions come in various forms, such as Enkidu stopping
Gilgamesh s ruthlessness by physically blocking him, Enkidu coming to terms with his certain
death by disavowing a cedar door, or Gilgamesh being questioned at the gates of Mashu by the
scorpion people guardians. However, in all cases, either one or both of the protagonists must reflect
on their current state of moral development.
One of the most significant ways that Gilgamesh matures is by becoming a good king. This
process begins right before the two heroes fight in Tablet II, demonstrated through the following
narrative description: Enkidu with his foot blocked the door of the wedding house, not allowing
Gilgamesh to enter (II 111 112). By physically preventing Gilgamesh from entering the house and
taking advantage of a bride, Enkidu shows that he is equal in strength to the king, and fulfills his

Renewable Energy
Topic
Canada should subsidize renewable energy options such as wind and solar power in order to
increase the share of renewables in Canada s energy balance.
Introduction Canada government subsidizes a number of socially beneficial services, including
health care, education and energy services. Subsidies to the energy sector mainly are for oil and gas
production, however, they are not all socially beneficial[figure 1]. In fact, they have negative impact
for the environment and hinder developments of environmentally friendly alternative energy
options. Indeed, Canada s implementation of the Kyoto Protocol is seriously threatened by
continued government support for oil and gas production, a sector with large and rapidly ... Show

However, it can also be problematic because it confuses an end (goods and services valued by
consumers) with a means (labour)[3]. Increase in energy price will cause price distortion and result
of inefficient production in the market, it tend to reduce consumers and producers net benefit, and
it lead a higher production cost to domestic goods, which will become more costly to compete in
the world market.
Policy Implication In case to shift Canada s energy balance toward renewable energy without
externalities, we need government s actions. One possible way is to raise tax on the amount of
carbon emitted to the atmosphere. If taxes are appropriately calculated, they can help raise the
marginal costs of producers of non renewable energy to equal the social and environmental costs
that their activities create. Countries such as Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the United Kingdom,
Finland, Switzerland and the Netherlands have already adopted carbon taxes[3]. Sweden, for
example, raises US$1 billion per year from its carbon tax and approximately US$10 billion per
year in energy taxes, some of which is part of a tax shift that goes to help develop renewable
energy[3]. Paul Anderson, the CEO of a major carbon dioxide emitting power company in US, he
said reducing greenhouse gases has become a worldwide political and social imperative... It is an

Argumentative Essay On Radiocarbon Dating
Radiocarbon dating is a scientific procedure used to calculate the age of dead specimens by the
rate of decay in their levels of C 14. Radiocarbon dating methods are deeply flawed and do not
reliably determine the age of certain fossils or the earth. This is due to the assumptions that they are
built upon. These assumptions include that the conditions on the earth have always been constant
and nothing has ever caused the C 14 levels to fluctuate. These assumptions must be true for
radiocarbon datingto be reliable. However, there is a plethora of evidence showing that these
assumptions cannot be trusted.
Radiocarbon dating is a heavily debated topic in the world today. This is primarily due to the
powerful implications it has on people s belief systems. Christians and atheists alike view
radiocarbon dating as important and need to be able to defend or support it. Findings through
the process of radiocarbon dating can help prove or disprove people s beliefs about the world.
Radiocarbon dating will always be a controversial method because of its impact on one s
worldview. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For radiocarbon dating to accurately date anything no matter its age, two facts must be accounted
for. The rate of decay of Carbon 14 and the amount of Carbon 14 in the creature at the time of its
death must be known. The rate of decay of Carbon 14 can be determined by its half life, which is
around 5,730 years. This means that every 5,730 years the amount of Carbon 14 in an organism
is cut in half. As a result, the amount of Carbon 14 would eventually dissipate to nothing in every
organism after its death. Because of this, radiocarbon dating has a limit to its accuracy. Many
times, scientists will claim that an organism was dated to be many millions of years old. However,
according to the half life of Carbon 14 and the limits that it possesses, this is

much of American workforce was completed by slaves brought from Africa. Slave laborwas used

inadequate housing, lack of food, resources and broken families. The quality of life for slaves

on social change from this point forward made the most significant changes. In 1869, a labor union
known as the Knights of Labor sought to defend the common worker from poor compensation and
to improve working conditions for the working class. The idea was to literally hold the employer s
hostage by going on strike under protest until their demands had been met. During the 2nd
industrial revolution brought about an enormous surge in jobs in manufacturing and farming. This
uptick in production in all sectors and the lack of an income tax made many leaders in business

Rhetorical Appeal Of Queen Elizabeth To The Troops At Tilbury
The rhetorical appeal of Queen Elizabeth to the troops at Tilbury has been renowned as one of the
most persuasive speeches of our day. Using ethos, pathos, logos, and even deception, Queen
Elizabeth captures the hearts of her contingent and all of England.
When an expected invasion of England by the Spanish Armada was imminent, Queen Elizabeth
realized that the only way that the kingdom could become triumphant was to rally her people to
stand with her to repel their enemies. Queen Elizabeth begins her speech by addressing her people,
beginning with My loving people. Although many citizens of England disliked the Queen, she
addressed them as though the nation adored her, giving the illusion of unity. Continuing on,
Elizabeth inspires pathos ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By using her subject s faith in God, and the current law of divine leadership, Elizabeth I sets in
stone her reputation. If God chose her to be the Queen of England, then she must be a qualified
leader. Who would dare defy a decision ordained by God himself?
Calling upon pathos, Queen Elizabeth proves her loyalty to her subjects by telling them I am
come amongst you, as you see, at this time, not for my recreation and disport, but being resolved,
in the midst and heat of the battle, to live and die amongst you all. But would the queen really fight
beside her nation? Of course not, England could not risk the catastrophic terror the death of a
monarch would bring. But her statement certainly serves its purpose, as it gives relatability.
Queen Elizabeth uses pathos again for a third time by using her gender as a crutch for weakness.
Falsely letting the public know that she would gladly fight alongside them, the Queen negates the
previous statement by dictating, I know I have the body but of a weak and feeble woman. Although
this statement could be looked upon negatively by a woman, it served the purpose of inspiring
empathy within the hearts of the soldiers being

Analysis Of The Robot Invasion By Charlie Gillis
In the article The Robot Invasion by Charlie Gillis, it discusses how robotics will become an
everyday part of society, how robotics will be used in labor and manufacturing instead of humans
doing jobs that are hazardous, tough, and grimy. The author argues the world will be occupied
with these robotics in the upcoming future which will alter the job industry and change how
chores in households will be done. Making humanity worry whether or not they will lose their
jobs or be killed by a rouge robot. The planet changing as robot technology develops more and
takes over jobs is not an irrational dispute. For decades, engineers and sci fi writers have forecast
a time when autonomous machines would become enough like living creatures to share our
homes and work spaces, performing the three Ds of human labor . The statement has a good

Mathematics Has Become A Part Of Our Life
ABSTRACT: Mathematics has become part of our life. Graph Theory is a branch of
mathematics that plays a major role in every field of human being. In this paper we define
different matrices associated with the Graphs along with some properties of a graph. And Rank of
rank of an incidence matrix. Key Words: Adjacency matrix, Incidence matrix, Degree matrix,
Circuit matrix and Line graph. INTRODUCTION: Incidence Matrix is one of methods of
representing the graph. Let G = (V,E) be graph whose vertices and edges are labeled as
v_1,v_2,........v_n and e_1,e_2,........e_m. An incidence matrix B associated with graph G of order
n×m is defined by b_ij={█(1 if v_i is incident with e_j@0 Otherwise )┤ [4] The graph and
its incidence matrix are shown as follows: The incidence matrix contains only two elements 0
and 1. Such a matrix is called a binary matrix or (0 1) matrix. For a given any geometric
representation of a graph without self loops we can easily write its corresponding incidence
matrix. On the other hand if we were given an incidence matrix B we can construct a graph
without any difficulty. The graph and its incidence matrix are simply two alternative ways of
representing the same graph. [1] PROPERTIES: Some observations of incidence matrix and it s
graph. Since every edge is incident on exactly two

Wuthering Heights Mood
Wuthering Heights takes place during 1750 1802 in Northern England. The setting is important
because it sets the tone for the novel and shows the relationship between the two houses. It also
helps the reader understand the culture of that era. If it were changed it would change the theme
and mood throughout the story. For instance, if Wuthering Heightstook place in modern day Los
Angeles the story would change drastically. The setting portrays the time periods culture, even
slight differences between methods of communication, social status, and lifestyle would play a big
role on the story being told.
Emily BrontГ« described Wuthering Heights as being a significant provincial adjective... (BrontГ«

the two homes, plays to the theme of the novel and the differences between the two households.
The time period 1750 1802 is also significant. Since, it was near the end of the Enlightenment, the

Ms. Dean was the narrator for most of the novel, for the most part she is unbiased and neutral. As
the housekeeper many different sides approach her understands the different point of views. Most
of the other characters are generally self centered and often do not pay attention to one another.

biased and one sided. A change in narrator would lose the quality of liveliness that Ms. Dean has
and would make the story dull and

When there is a commonality the gap in the bridge can be closed.
Having a commonality will allow the gap in cultural, gender and ethnical differences to merge
together. Example, there is an older lady that work with me who is very quiet and she is from
Africa. Several coworkers whisper about her, stating she s evil, she s scary, and she s a witch . I
started talking to this lady and I enjoyed our conversation. This woman has so much wisdom that
I felt like a little child sitting at the feet of my Parents. This woman stated I know what people
are saying about me and told me she s not a witch and that she doesn t get involved in other
people business and that she sit and observe quietly and pray when she s not working. This
woman is now known as the go to person if you need prayer. Because of this woman being
different from what was considered normal she was labeled. According to the lecture for this
week, The challenge for us is to find ways to bridge the gap between groups. To do so, we have to
develop certain skills and abilities. The first is to examine our own views of others, be they part
of the minority or the majority group, a different social class, or a different gender. (Bell, 2007).
As a manager one would have to examine their views and cultural biases before trying to
implement cultural literacy to their employees. Once managers and professionals become culturally
literate then the cultural bridges at work can be formed. This can happen by

  • 2. Video Editing Essay TASK 1 PROPOSAL (Typed document minimum 1000 words) Special investigation into editing I will be talking about editing work through the industry of media, we will start some of the software that is used in the industry today, these include, Premier pro, Avid, and final cut, avid has always been a strong editing software in the industry, but as some technology rises and falls premier pro is just edging the gap into the industry, as regular updates of this software make it the better choice for editing films together as different filters, transitions and bugs with in the software are updated, for the software to be crisp. Final cut on the other hand is mostly use by educational establishments for training people to use software like this in the future as in the last few years final cut has dropped down in consumer use as it is not been updated and is less consumer friendly for use then premier and avid, This is reason for it being used in education. Methodology of Video Editing There are several different ways to edit video and each method has its pros and cons. Although most editors go for non linear editing for most projects, it makes sense to have an understanding of how each method works, as some people prefer different options or how some look, i.e Vintage Film Splicing film editing was the first way to edit moving pictures and conceptually it forms the basis of all video editing, as film had to be spliced and put together back in the day. • 3. Summary Of In The Road To Evergreen By Rachael Stryker In The Road to Evergreen by Rachael Stryker is an interesting eye catching ethnography that emphasizes on the psychiatric disorder on adopted children called RAD, also known as reactive attachment disorder. Reactive attachment disorder Describes children who are considered to be unable or unwilling to bond with parental (most often mother) figures (Stryker 3). The reason why these particular children are unable to form a bond with their primary familyis because in their past relationships formed with their birth parents, if any, have been either neglected or abused in both a physical and or mental way. So, in the end, the child is left with RAD and their new adopted families are the ones who have to get help for them in hope for a noticeable... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kinship is the study of relationships or kin, therefore is an important role on how a person behaves as well as form attachments with other groups i.e. new family members. A great example of this is the movie we watched in class called The Dark Matter Of Love. Masha had a very difficult time adjusting with her new family because she couldn t understand them and the family felt overwhelmed with 3 adopted children from Russia and you could tell by the way the parents acted. But, overtime she and the other two adoptees learned to love, care ad be happy with their family. Which goes to show that once you adjust and take things at a slow and steady pace that everything turns out for the best. I also believe this goes in hand with Stryker s central argument that if new parents had the same way of thinking like the Diaz s, that maybe they wouldn t reach the point of distress and turn to the evergreen model. Stryker s main point is that there are different ways to get help for your child, and that you don t need to basically torture them for them to love ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Special Operation Imperatives serve as the base for success by providing the framework to develop and assist the host nation in achieving their desired goals. Through this essay I will use the novel The Ugly American(William J. Lederer Eugene Burdick) to provide context to the benefits of applying such imperatives and the consequences of improper application. I will bring to light the actions of the characters and depict the reasons why the application of the imperative made the character succeed or fail in his desired goal. The first character that I will discuss is Honorable Louis Sears, American Ambassador to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A third failure in understanding the operational environment occurred when Sears coordinated the delivery of rice from Haidho to the stricken area in Sarkhan. His lack of understanding of the Sarkhanese and communist tactics was reciprocated by his subordinates. The latter became evident when the rice bags were labeled as if coming from the communists and no USIS employee realized what it meant. In addition, there was no effort from US employees to talk or interact with locals at the destination. The confusion led the Sarkhanese to believe that the rice bags in fact were provided by the communists. A good description of Sears failure in understanding the operational environment was provided by Ambassador Louis Krupitzyn on his report to Moscow. Krupitzyn wrote how Sears kept his subordinates away from the Sarkhanese and didn t allow them to go into the hills. This disconnect between the American employees and the Sarkhanese provided Moscow with the ability to freely connect with the population and turn the table ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay Joseph Heller s Catch 22 and World War II In all of history, no war seems to have touched the minds of people everywhere as much as World War II has. This war brought about some of the worst violations of human rights ever seen. The German military created a system for the public to follow, and if the individual opposed, he was oppressed. This kind of mentality is presented in the novel, Catch 22(1955). Joseph Heller uses the insane situations of the setting and his characters to show a unique perspective on World War II. A small Army Air Corps base serves as the setting for Catch 22. It is set on a fictitious island called Pianosa. The island is described as very small and is located in ... The characters are persuaded to believe in the system rather than oppose it. Yossarianseems to be the only one who sees the insanity of this situation. This scenario is almost like the one initiated by Adolph Hitler in Germany at this time. Hitler saw the people of Germany as impressionable and easily swayed. He used propaganda to make them do whatever he wanted. It was through this course of action that 6 million Jewish people were mass murdered. Heller makes it all the more ironic that this same kind of mentality is being used by the American military in his novel, and he projects his attitude towards war through this irony. Heller portrays the military as a self contradictory and oppressive force. He sees the military as taking away a soldier s individuality. The struggle for individuality by each character is evident throughout the novel. Their experiences make the scenario believable to the reader. Each character represents an attitude in the system. Milo Minderbinder and Colonel Cathcart are great representatives of the military. To them, the soldiers are seen as tools to further their careers. The main character, Tambudzai, in the novel Nervous Conditions by Tsitsi Dangarembga, is determined to get a white educationwithout losing her native tongue and ways. However this proves to be more difficult that she would expect and seeds that are planted in her mind by the whites begin to take shape, and greatly affect her existence. It is not until later in the novel that Tambu realizes that she had been brainwashed to believe that the white educational system was better than her villages black education system, and that the white ways are better than her villages ways. This is reflected in her uncle Babamukuru, who is looked upon as a being of higher status by those in African culture because he is educated, but his education taught him white ideas, therefore his transformation from African to white caused other blacks to view him as being higher up then they are. Tambu wants badly to help her family escape poverty, but does not realize that they only way to do that is to follow the white s ideas outlined for her throughout her education. She wants to be able to avoid conforming to the cultural ideas held by the whites, all the while using their education to get ahead. However the avoidance of brainwashing is not as simple as she thinks. Tambu decided that she did not want to be brainwashed like her brother. Tambu first noticed the effect that brainwashing had on her brother Nhamo when he returned on school vacation to their homestead. She disapproved of her brother because he renounced the family life, as he had been brainwashed to believe that since there standard of living did not meet the expectations of a white standard of living then their standard of living must be bad. • 10. Three Causes Of The Boxer Rebellion The Boxer Rebellion was an uprising initiated in China, after the Chinese suffered many devastating defeats at the hands of foreign powers. Originating in the 1900 s, a secret organisation called the Society of the Righteous and Harmonious Fists, began carrying out attacks on Chinese Christians and foreigners. They became known in the West as the boxers , for their martial arts fighting style. What caused the Boxer Rebellion? There were three main causes. The first cause for the Boxer Rebellion, was the anti foreign stance in China. As a result of suffering humiliating defeats in both the first, and second Opium wars, China was forced to grant concessions to foreigners. Furthermore, they had to sign the unequal treaties which allowed the West to gain a significant amount of control over China. This left the Chinese population poverty stricken, and angry at foreign powers. The economy became disrupted by the arrival of modernity and industrialism. According to historian David Silbey Many Chinese worked in industries that were disrupted by the arrival of the railroad and the telegraph. There was a sense that China s balance had been thrown out of whack by these modern innovations, and only by destroying the innovations and the foreigners who brought them could the balance be restored. . The Chinese regarded the West as foreign devils , and wished to retain sovereignty and independence. They were extremely nationalistic. Mark Twain addressed the boxer rebellion in 1900. ... Everyone belongs to a community, and it is our moral obligation to help those who cannot take care of themselves. Providing these citizens with food, medical assistance, clothing, and shelter helps keep the community safe and healthy. In addition, people will be less likely to commit crimes in order to gain basic necessities if they are offered help instead. By giving back to the communities they are located in, businesses can improve their image and gain the respect of local citizens. Therefore, community service can be a very profitable business venture. People can develop several important business skills through community service, such as teamwork, leadership, communication, and problem solving. • 14. Summary Of The Paranoid Style In American Politics The Prevalence of Political Paranoia In the controversial essay, which was first published in the November 1964 issue of Harper s Magazine, The Paranoid Style in American Politics, Richard Hofstadter argues how the prevalence of paranoia in American politics has dominated the country. Hofstadter asserts American politics have been governed by paranoia since the creation of the United States, and it has manifested itself into the minds of both average and intellectuals Americans. He contends that paranoia has played a pivotal role in American politics by fostering fear in citizens regarding issues such as gender, ethnicity, race, and religion and proclaims the reason fear is heightened in citizens has more to do with the style in which panic is spread than any other factor. Furthermore, the author claims the sole issue dictating American politics is not simply paranoia, but rather a problem internationally caused, primarily, through misconceptions and false imaginations. Hofstadter also explores the affiliation paranoia has to power, to corruption, and to the government. Additionally, he examines the reasoning behind many skeptics and paranoids in the country today and describes the techniques with which they spread panic and hysteria, through methods such as books, speeches, and media. The Paranoid Style in American Politics, by Richard Hofstadter, demonstrates the critical role paranoia plays in dictating American politics through the utilization of academic diction, anecdotal evidence, logical appeals, an explanatory tone, and chronological organization. Hofstadter employs a scholastic tone by incorporating academic diction into his essay, to establish credibility when discussing paranoia and its roots in American politics. When examining paranoia, Hofstadter argues that it establishes a greater affinity for bad causes than good (Hofstadter 77). Through this phrase, and the language Hofstadter applies, it can be concluded that the intended audience for this piece is intellectuals. The author s diction and tone identify Hofstadter s belief of paranoia doing little to spark progressive change in America, but rather hindering the development of policies and activities which would combat real problems. ... • 17. The Raven, By Edgar Allen Poe n the discussions of Edgar Allen Poe s The Raven, one issue has been the explanation of the bird and it s presence in the poem. Majority agrees that the feathered creature does have a symbolic meaning of the conscious mind of the speaker in the poem. The agreement usually ends with how we communicate with our selves. Some focus more on who or what a person is talking to with their conscious while others direct their attention to how we can better understand our conscious conversations with our selves. Any time someone thinks, their brain has a special, designated voice for their thoughts. This voice, allows an individual to in some degree, have a conversation with their self, without necessarily communicating out loud. This voice in our heads has had numerous names throughout the years, such as a person s conscious or recently has been called the self. Many researchers have wanted to know who and or what the actual voice is that we hear in our conversations. Richard Rass author of Introduction to Perspectives on the Self: Conversations on Identity and Consciousness, explains that self has assumed radically different meanings... throughout the years (Rass 2). • 19. Social Contract Theory On The Origin Of State SOCIAL CONTRACT THEORY 1. INTRODUCTION: The social contract theory is one of the oldest theories on the origin of state. This theory came into existence as a reaction against the divine origin theory. The term social is something which is connected with the society, while contract means an agreement between two or more people. Thus a term of political theory, social contract implies an agreement that makes society possible .this theory holds that the state is the voluntary and deliberate agreement on the part of the people those who emerged from the state of nature, in order to form a state based on a contract between the people and the sovereign and is not made by the god and thus implies that the state is a man`s deliberate creation to serve his needs. The core idea behind this theory is an assumption that there was a period in human history, when there was no state at all and no political law existed. The idea that the power to the ruler is given based on some kind of agreement between him and his subjects is quite old. The social contract theory envisages a state of nature where there were no organised government and rulers. There were no man made laws and no authority to govern the people .the state of nature was prepolitical the idea of social contract divides the state into two phases, i.e. one is the state of nature which was the life of the people before the state came into existence and second is the creation of the state as a result of the contract entered ... Consumption is viewed as significantly powerful force in the economy and therefore understanding consumption and consumer culture is a vitally important resource both for the benefit of the economyand the individual. Consumer culture theory aims to understand the behaviours and attitudes of consumers from a sociological perspective, as opposed the economic mindset in which consumer culture is usually viewed. Consumer culture theory attempts this through understanding the relationships between consumer actions, the marketplace, and cultural meanings (Arnould and Thompson, 2005). ... Individuals use possession to create and maintain identity, however the identity an individual creates through consumption of goods can not always be controlled (Friedman, 2005). An obvious example being clothing, an individual may purchase clothing that they believe makes them look fashionable but the items could in fact cause other to perceive them as unfashionable and out of date. The value of items is created by consumers through the meanings they attach to said items. companies can try to influence the meanings attached to items but the overall meaning and value attached to items is by the individual (McCracken, 1986). This also means that different items can have different cultural value and meanings to different individuals. some items may have no external value but have very significant value to an individual, for example family heirlooms or photos. this personal value however does not transfer between individuals and while some items may hold strong value for an individual the item itself is not a commodity that can be exchanged and retain its value (Howard, 1999). gift exchange is an important aspect of consumer culture, gift exchange involves the idea of reciprocity. In it Paine uses numerous rhetorical strategies to persuade the American colonists to secede from Great Britain. Through his use of ethos and logos Paine is able to connect with his audience emotionally and logically. He also calls on their patriotism and belief in God to commit his audience to his cause. His work addresses the concerns he has about the oppressive British Empire controlling the colonies. Paine s article is appropriately titled The American Crisis. Therefore, his audience is the American colonists. The tone Paine has is highly impassioned. His use of strong embellishing language helps emphasize the importance of his cause. He capitalizes words such as freedom tax , now and God to show that they are key subjects. Paine first connects with his audience emotionally by using an appeal to the colonial s patriotism. Paine s article begins with one of his most famous quotes, These are times that try men s soul . He makes this statement to prove to his audience that he is aware of the difficulties that Americans will face. He is aware that the sunshine patriot will shrink from service in the midst of these challenging times. However, he promises love and thanks for those men who can stand it . In professional safety practice, the topics covered in this unit generally include a discussion of safety metrics . Measuring safety performance is a mixed bag of calculating and reviewing data associated with lagging indicators and leading indicators . By definition, lagging indicators are output oriented, easy to measure and calculate, but not improvable since they are measures of what already occurred (i.e., losses in the form of accidents, property damage, or loss of life). In contrast, leading indicators are input oriented and represent preventative measures taken to improve overall safetyand reduce the occurrence of incidents and injuries. Lagging indicators allude to the health of a company s safety program and performance in the form of past accident and incident statistics, such as lost workers compensation costs, injury frequency, injury severity, OSHA recordables, near misses, spills/releases or Experience Modification Rate (EMR). • 26. The Effect Of Angular Momentum On Classical Mechanics INTRODUCTION We know the importance of Angular Momentum in Classical Mechanics; the total angular momentum of an isolated physical system is a constant of the motion. For example, if a point particle P, of mass m, is moving in a central potential (one which depends only on the distance between P and a fixed point O), the force to which P is subjected is always directed towards O. Its moment with respect to O is consequently zero, and the angular momentum theorem implies that derivative of L (Angular momentum of P with respect to O) with respect to time is zero. This fact has important consequences: the motion of the particle P is limited to a fixed plane (the plane passing through O and perpendicular to the angular momentum L); moreover, this motion obeys the law of constant areal velocity (Kepler s Second Law). All these properties have their equivalents in Quantum Mechanics. With the angular momentum L of a classical system is associated with an observable L, actually a set of three observables, Lx, Ly, and Lz, which correspond to the three components of L in a Cartesian Frame. These three observables commute with the Hamiltonian H for a particle in the central potential V(r). This property simplifies the determination and classification of eigenstates of H. Quantization of Angular Momentum: the component, along a fixed axis, of the intrinsic angular momenta are quantized, which enables us to understand atomic magnetism, the Zeeman Effect, etc. We shall denote by ... • 28. The Transformation Of Enkidu And Gilgamesh Gilgamesh starts out as an immature, cruel and emotionally stunted character. He is described as young and borne along by emotion by the elders of the city of Uruk before embarking on a foolhardy and dangerous mission (II 289). Enkidu was created by the gods to be the equal of Gilgamesh, one mighty in strength (MB Ni, pg. 4). Both Enkiduand Gilgamesh grow as characters; doors represent transitions and mark key points where both characters mature. At these points they are put on the path towards discovering what they should do with their lives and how they should approach the concept of death. These transitions come in various forms, such as Enkidu stopping Gilgamesh s ruthlessness by physically blocking him, Enkidu coming to terms with his certain death by disavowing a cedar door, or Gilgamesh being questioned at the gates of Mashu by the scorpion people guardians. However, in all cases, either one or both of the protagonists must reflect on their current state of moral development. One of the most significant ways that Gilgamesh matures is by becoming a good king. This process begins right before the two heroes fight in Tablet II, demonstrated through the following narrative description: Enkidu with his foot blocked the door of the wedding house, not allowing Gilgamesh to enter (II 111 112). By physically preventing Gilgamesh from entering the house and taking advantage of a bride, Enkidu shows that he is equal in strength to the king, and fulfills his initial ... Introduction Canada government subsidizes a number of socially beneficial services, including health care, education and energy services. Subsidies to the energy sector mainly are for oil and gas production, however, they are not all socially beneficial[figure 1]. Increase in energy price will cause price distortion and result of inefficient production in the market, it tend to reduce consumers and producers net benefit, and it lead a higher production cost to domestic goods, which will become more costly to compete in the world market. Policy Implication In case to shift Canada s energy balance toward renewable energy without externalities, we need government s actions. One possible way is to raise tax on the amount of carbon emitted to the atmosphere. If taxes are appropriately calculated, they can help raise the marginal costs of producers of non renewable energy to equal the social and environmental costs that their activities create. Countries such as Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Finland, Switzerland and the Netherlands have already adopted carbon taxes[3]. Sweden, for example, raises US$1 billion per year from its carbon tax and approximately US$10 billion per year in energy taxes, some of which is part of a tax shift that goes to help develop renewable energy[3]. • 30. Argumentative Essay On Radiocarbon Dating Radiocarbon dating is a scientific procedure used to calculate the age of dead specimens by the rate of decay in their levels of C 14. Radiocarbon dating methods are deeply flawed and do not reliably determine the age of certain fossils or the earth. This is due to the assumptions that they are built upon. These assumptions include that the conditions on the earth have always been constant and nothing has ever caused the C 14 levels to fluctuate. These assumptions must be true for radiocarbon datingto be reliable. However, there is a plethora of evidence showing that these assumptions cannot be trusted. Radiocarbon dating is a heavily debated topic in the world today. This is primarily due to the powerful implications it has on people s belief systems. Christians and atheists alike view radiocarbon dating as important and need to be able to defend or support it. The rate of decay of Carbon 14 and the amount of Carbon 14 in the creature at the time of its death must be known. As a result, the amount of Carbon 14 would eventually dissipate to nothing in every organism after its death. Because of this, radiocarbon dating has a limit to its accuracy. He was married in 1972 and had many children. In 1979 he was offered to Registrar in Medication at Royal Perth hospital. Where he began his studies in gastritis with Robin Warren in 1981. They studied bacteriawhich led to the culture of H. pylori because of peptic ulcer and gastric cancer. H. Pylori is a study of bacteria that they believed couldn t live in the environment of the stomach. Berry knew his studies were correct, more and more scientist started urging to read and test the theory/evidence.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He decided to test it on himself. He drank a petri dish containing the h pylori. He was expecting a difference in years to come. But realized after 3 days he had nausea. Due to the fact of the achlorhydria which kills the bacteria in the stomach. After day 5 8 he had none acidic vomiting. During day 8 he had a biopsy that showed gastritis. On the 14th day after many days of ingestion a third endoscopy was done and he was forced to take antibiotics. After the experiment Marshall continued to research H. pylori at UWA. Then he accepted an appointment at Pennsylvania State University. Barry Marshall and Ryan Warren discovered bacteria in the stomachs with people with gastritis. This test promoted that bacteria is a factor of these diseases. The results were prevailing that they were physiological not infectious. It was a cure of ulcers. He was then awarded the Benjamin Franklin Medal of Sciences in 1999. The Keio in 2002 and the Australian in 2003. He was rewarded Companion of Australia in 2007. • 40. Mathematics Has Become A Part Of Our Life ABSTRACT: Mathematics has become part of our life. Graph Theory is a branch of mathematics that plays a major role in every field of human being. In this paper we define different matrices associated with the Graphs along with some properties of a graph. And Rank of rank of an incidence matrix. Key Words: Adjacency matrix, Incidence matrix, Degree matrix, Circuit matrix and Line graph. INTRODUCTION: Incidence Matrix is one of methods of representing the graph. Let G = (V,E) be graph whose vertices and edges are labeled as v_1,v_2,........v_n and e_1,e_2,........e_m. An incidence matrix B associated with graph G of order nГ—m is defined by b_ij={в–€(1 if v_i is incident with e_j@0 Otherwise )┤ [4] The graph and its incidence matrix are shown as follows: The incidence matrix contains only two elements 0 and 1. Such a matrix is called a binary matrix or (0 1) matrix. For a given any geometric representation of a graph without self loops we can easily write its corresponding incidence matrix. On the other hand if we were given an incidence matrix B we can construct a graph without any difficulty. The graph and its incidence matrix are simply two alternative ways of representing the same graph. [1] PROPERTIES: Some observations of incidence matrix and it s graph. Since every edge is incident on exactly two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Wuthering Heights Mood Wuthering Heights takes place during 1750 1802 in Northern England. The setting is important because it sets the tone for the novel and shows the relationship between the two houses. It also helps the reader understand the culture of that era. If it were changed it would change the theme and mood throughout the story. For instance, if Wuthering Heightstook place in modern day Los Angeles the story would change drastically. The setting portrays the time periods culture, even slight differences between methods of communication, social status, and lifestyle would play a big role on the story being told. When there is a commonality the gap in the bridge can be closed. Having a commonality will allow the gap in cultural, gender and ethnical differences to merge together. Example, there is an older lady that work with me who is very quiet and she is from Africa. Several coworkers whisper about her, stating she s evil, she s scary, and she s a witch . I started talking to this lady and I enjoyed our conversation. This woman has so much wisdom that I felt like a little child sitting at the feet of my Parents. This woman stated I know what people are saying about me and told me she s not a witch and that she doesn t get involved in other people business and that she sit and observe quietly and pray when she s not working. This woman is now known as the go to person if you need prayer. Because of this woman being different from what was considered normal she was labeled. According to the lecture for this week, The challenge for us is to find ways to bridge the gap between groups. To do so, we have to develop certain skills and abilities. The first is to examine our own views of others, be they part of the minority or the majority group, a different social class, or a different gender. (Bell, 2007). As a manager one would have to examine their views and cultural biases before trying to implement cultural literacy to their employees.
