Health promotion survey in overweight and obese students of universities in n...pharmaindexing
Introduction
Overweight and obesity is one of the major health problems in the UK and worldwide. Approximately two-thirds of the population in the UK is either overweight or obese. Overweight and obesity is an important issue that causes distress to most women. Health promotion is the best method to educate overweight and obese women. It is defined as the process enabling people to increase control over and to improve their health by Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion. It is aimed to enhance the well-being of the individuals and their positive attitudes towards prevention of various diseases. In order to make any improvement to the health promotion for overweight and obesity, the risk factors and the opinions from the public should first be identified and addressed.
Methods
Cross-sectional survey design was selected with a questionnaire that consisted of 20 open and close ended questions. A sample size of 196 was determined. The data thus gathered was analyzed using SPSS V20 (Statistical Package for Social Science version 20). Descriptive statistics (fx) and (SD) were used and Chi-square X2 test for association was employed.
Results
Out of the total 196 responses, only (40%) of the students had normal weight (SD 1.1), (25%) students had a good understanding of health promotion (SD 1.6), half (50%) appeared concerned about their weight (SD 0.5), (60%) had an obese family member (0.5). The BMI of students was associated with the presence of an obese member in their family and their weight as a concern for them. (P-value <0.05).
Conclusion
The health promotion service is beneficial as it was found to have raised concerns in the mind of the students regarding over weight and obesity. However it was observed that the understanding of health promotion service was different among students and this is the root of the problem.

Obesity
Obesity is a chronic medical condition and a significant health concern in the United States that is increasing worldwide. More than one third of the adults in the U.S. are obese. It is a leading cause of preventable illness and death (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2016). This global epidemic is a leading concern for adults and for children who are predisposed to becoming obese as adults. This paper will discuss the significance of obesity in Florida, provide a background of the disease, review current surveillance and reporting methods, conduct a descriptive epidemiological analysis, discuss diagnosis and screening for prevention tools, develop an evidence based plan along with measureable outcomes to address obesity as an advanced practice nurse, and conclude with an overview of the main points presented.
Background and Significance
According to the CDC (2016), obesity is defined as “weight that is higher than what is considered as a healthy weight for a given height.” It involves excessive weight gain and accumulation of fat. In order to determine obesity, Body Mass Index or BMI is used to indirectly calculate a person’s body fat and health risk based on weight in relation to height. A BMI of 25.0 or above is considered overweight and 30.0 or greater is considered obese. Athletes with a greater amount of muscle mass may have a higher BMI even though they do not have excess body fat. Waist circumference is also used as a tool to diagnose obesity.
There are many causes that contribute to obesity, including behavioral, genetic, hormonal, environmental, and social factors. Increase in caloric intake, unhealthy eating habits, decrease in physical activity, certain medications, age, lack of sleep, quitting smoking, pregnancy, and certain medical disorders can contribute to weight gain (Mayo Clinic, 2018). Driving cars has replaced walking and riding bikes, technology has replaced engaging in physical activity, and easy access to cheaper foods has replaced nutritional importance. Most people are aware when weight is gained. Obvious signs and symptoms are tighter clothes, excess fat, and increased weight on a scale. Being overweight or obese increases the risk for many health diseases. Obesity may cause low endurance, breathing issues, excessive sweating, and joint discomfort. It can also lead to diabetes, gastroesophageal reflux disease, coronary heart disease, hypertension, high cholesterol, stroke, depression, and even certain types of cancer such as bowel, breast, and prostate cancer (Mayo Clinic, 2018).
Below is a map that highlights the obesity prevalence across the U.S. in 2016 according to the CDC. There is no significant difference in overall prevalence between men and women. The prevalence of women with a BMI > 35 is 18.3% compared to 12.5% of men. The.
Association between obesity and eating patternZack DZ
This study aims to assess obesity rates and eating patterns among office workers and non-office workers at Management & Science University in Shah Alam, Malaysia. It will examine the relationship between body mass index (BMI), eating patterns, and socio-demographic factors like socioeconomic status, education level, and gender. A cross-sectional study will survey 200 respondents, measuring their height, weight, and administering a questionnaire on eating behaviors and socioeconomic characteristics. The study hypothesizes that BMI status and eating patterns will be more strongly associated with socio-demographic factors in office workers compared to non-office workers.
Research proposal for obesity prevalence in housewives MahwishAurangzeb
This study aims to determine the prevalence of obesity and factors contributing to obesity among housewives in Miami-Dade County. A cross-sectional study design will survey over 50,000 housewives using questionnaires to collect data on demographics, BMI, diet, physical activity, sleep habits, socioeconomic status and other lifestyle factors. Statistical analysis will identify relationships between obesity and contributing factors. The study aims to inform interventions to promote healthy lifestyles among this population and reduce illness related to obesity. Some limitations include focusing only on housewives over 30 years old in one city, and potential measurement errors from self-reported data.
This document provides an overview of obesity as a public health epidemic in the United States. It discusses how obesity is defined using BMI and statistics showing obesity rates have risen significantly over the past few decades. The document outlines some of the main factors that contribute to obesity, including dietary habits, food insecurity, stress, lack of physical activity, and lack of nutrition knowledge. It notes that middle-aged adults are particularly vulnerable to obesity due to life stage factors like declining immunity and increased stress. The goal is to educate people on the relationship between obesity, dietary habits, and other contributing factors.
The document discusses obesity in New York City, including defining obesity using Body Mass Index, the causes and effects of obesity, and the high rates of obesity and efforts to address it through policies requiring calorie labeling in restaurants and improving nutrition in public schools. Obesity is a major problem in NYC with over half the population overweight or obese, contributing to health risks, so organizations are working to promote healthier food choices and more physical activity.
Taking account of research around the relationship between genetics and our new ‘food environment’, Dr Robyn Toomath (endocrinologist and Clinical Director Wellington Hospital) argues that we are in the middle of an obesity epidemic which impacts widely on public health. She advocates for new approaches to obesity based not on blame or impossible personal goals, but on outcomes. She argues it is the responsibility of all to become informed and active (personally and politically), in working for change to present health policies and gives examples of what can be done.

This study examined the association between overweight/obesity and breast cancer in India. The study found that breast cancer patients had higher average weight, BMI, and mid-upper arm circumference compared to controls. Obesity was positively associated with increased breast cancer risk, with higher BMI groups facing greater odds of breast cancer. Maintaining a healthy weight may be a modifiable way to reduce breast cancer risk and impact women's health in India. However, the study had limitations such as insufficient demographic profiling and lack of perfect matching between cases and controls.
The document discusses obesity, including its types, rates, causes, and effects on health. It addresses the main types of obesity defined by BMI, trends showing increasing obesity rates in both adults and children, dietary and lifestyle factors that can cause obesity, and how excess weight is associated with higher risks of diseases and health conditions like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and some cancers. Prevention focuses on maintaining a healthy diet and active lifestyle to avoid excess weight gain and related health issues.
Role of Daily life style and Medication in Prevention and treatment of obesityPriyankaKilaniya
The rising prevalence of overweight and obesity underscores the need for enhanced intervention strategies to tackle this significant public health issue. Increases in energy expenditure through exercise and other physical activity may be a crucial component of effective interventions to enhance initial weight loss and prevent weight regain. achieve these outcomes, it is recommended to engage in appropriate levels of exercise and physical activity, with 60 to 90 minutes per day being the recommended duration. Epidemiological surveys in England reveal that obesity is prevalent, defined as a body mass index (BMI) of greater than 30 kg/m2. This study is the first to report the prevalence of general obesity and abdominal obesity in the adult population of Spain, based on weight, height, and waist circumference measurements. Diet, smoking, and physical activity are significant lifestyle factors that can significantly impact body weight and fat accumulation. The PREDIMED study, a randomized dietary primary prevention trial conducted in Spain, assessed the relationship between lifestyle and obesity risk. A study assessed 7,000 high-cardiovascular risk subjects, determining a healthy lifestyle pattern (HLP) based on Mediterranean diet adherence, moderate alcohol consumption, daily physical activity of 200kcal/day, and non-smoking.

The chemical processes act as buffers while the physiological processes include respiratory and renal regulation of acids and bases. Multiple interconnected mechanisms tightly regulate hydrogen ion concentration, which is critically important for cellular enzymes and organ function. The document outlines the key concepts of acids, bases, pH, and how the body maintains acid-base balance through buffers, respiration, and the kidneys. It also defines and discusses acidosis and alkalosis.
This document provides an overview of the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system. It describes the major organs that make up the respiratory system including the nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and lungs. It explains the structures and functions of these organs as well as the processes of pulmonary ventilation, gas exchange, and gas transport throughout the body. Various nonrespiratory air movements are also discussed. In addition, it reviews how respiratory rate changes throughout life from infancy to adulthood.
1) The student nurse encountered a patient, Mrs. X, suffering from severe back pain due to a slipped disc who wanted to manage her pain with heat packs instead of morphine as it allowed her to feel more in control and active with her husband.
2) During a discussion with the duty nurse, Mrs. X confronted the nurse about respecting her decision to use heat packs over morphine, which surprised the student nurse.
3) Upon reflection, the student nurse realized they made assumptions about pain management and did not truly listen to understand Mrs. X's perspective, priorities and goals for managing her chronic pain. This experience highlighted the importance of truly listening to patients' narratives and preferences.
A 38-year-old man with uncontrolled diabetes was admitted with 1 week of fevers, chills, and cough. He was diagnosed with infective endocarditis of the tricuspid valve caused by Staphylococcus aureus based on positive blood cultures, echocardiogram findings, and Duke criteria. He received IV antibiotic therapy and was monitored closely in the hospital. Nursing care involved administering antibiotics, monitoring for signs of heart failure, and providing patient education on preventing future infections and managing his diabetes.

This document analyzes the difficulty index, discrimination index, and distractor efficiency of 20 multiple choice questions from an exam given to nursing students. Most questions had acceptable difficulty levels between 40-60% and high discrimination indexes above 0.4, indicating they could reliably differentiate between higher- and lower-performing students. The majority (91.7%) of distractors were functional. While some questions were too difficult or easy, overall the MCQ quality was good at reliably assessing student learning. The analysis can be used to identify questions needing revision to improve the exam's validity and integrity.
Past present health status of community health of pakistanyasmeenzulfiqar
The document summarizes Pakistan's healthcare system. It describes the healthcare system as having a three-tiered structure consisting of primary, secondary, and tertiary levels of care. The primary level includes dispensaries, basic health units, and rural health centers. The secondary level includes tehsil hospitals and privately run clinics and hospitals. The tertiary level includes district and large urban private hospitals. The healthcare system has both public and private sector components, with the majority of households utilizing private providers.
An emergency department quality improvement projectyasmeenzulfiqar
The document discusses improving vital sign documentation during triage in emergency departments. It aims to investigate factors affecting vital sign data quality during measurement and documentation, and provide recommendations for improvement. A literature review found that timely and accurate vital sign documentation is important for identifying deteriorating patients. However, studies on nursing workflows and documentation of vital signs are limited. The objective is to study nurses' vital sign documentation process through a questionnaire of nurses and analysis of the data. Results showed teamwork and quality improvement efforts like education and training can enhance compliance with vital sign documentation standards during triage. Recommendations include departments addressing challenges in measurement time and reviewing results to improve performance.
A patient undergoing blood transfusion experienced an allergic reaction after the nurse failed to properly monitor his vital signs as required every 30 minutes. Transfusion reactions can be life-threatening if not properly monitored and treated. Nurses have a duty of care to patients under their care. By neglecting to monitor the patient's vital signs as ordered, the nurse breached their duty of care, which likely contributed to the patient's adverse reaction going unnoticed and untreated. Strengthening nursing home staff training and increasing minimum staffing requirements could help avoid such medical errors and improve patient safety and outcomes.

This article summarizes a quantitative study that examined factors affecting successful employment for transition-age youth with visual impairments. The study analyzed variables like work experience, self-determination, academic competence, self-esteem, locus of control, involvement with vocational rehabilitation counselors, and use of assistive technology. The study found that employment history, academic skills, sense of control, self-advocacy, and assistive technologies were significantly correlated with finding work. However, the small sample size and multiple statistical tests limited the reliability of the results. Overall, the study provided insight into supports that may help youth with visual impairments obtain jobs.

Sectional dentures for microstomia patients.pptxSatvikaPrasad
Microstomia, characterized by an abnormally small oral aperture, presents significant challenges in prosthodontic treatment, including limited access for examination, difficulties in impression making, and challenges with prosthesis insertion and removal. To manage these issues, customized impression techniques using sectional trays and elastomeric materials are employed. Prostheses may be designed in segments or with flexible materials to facilitate handling. Minimally invasive procedures and the use of digital technologies can enhance patient comfort. Education and training for patients on prosthesis care and maintenance are crucial for compliance. Regular follow-up and a multidisciplinary approach, involving collaboration with other specialists, ensure comprehensive care and improved quality of life for microstomia patients.

26. DISCUSSION
One major theme that emerge was the poor modification of lifestyle. Nurses often engage in
habits that are harmful to their physical, mental, and emotional health, including irregular
eating patterns, unhealthy snacks, and excessive consumption of fried and processed foods
(Alzabni et al., 2023).
Nurses play a crucial role in patient care, and their health and well-being are essential for
the efficient functioning of the healthcare system. Unfortunately, the demanding nature of
their job, long working hours, and exposure to unhealthy dietary options make it challenging
for nurses to maintain a healthy lifestyle (SARI et al., 2023).
Friday, March 15, 2024 26
27. DISCUSSION
Diet and sleep were important aspects that were altered by shift changes. Shift
work frequently results in unpredictable eating patterns, a lack of healthy food
alternatives, and a dependence on short, energy-dense meals (Heath et al., 2019).
The study's findings align with previous research that has shown that poor dietary
habits and sedentary lifestyles contribute to the increasing prevalence of
overweight and obesity among healthcare professionals (Ross et al., 2019;
Kunyahamu et al., 2021).
Friday, March 15, 2024 27
28. DISCUSSION
• The study findings underscore the need for addressing nurses' mental health and providing
strategies to cope with workplace-related stressors. Moreover, the study highlights the role
of poor motivation for weight loss among nurses (NP2, NP3, MP3). Nurses often prioritize
patient care over their own well-being, leading to a lack of time and resources for proper
diet planning and exercise. The motivation to lose weight is crucial, and finding ways to
enhance nurses' self-motivation and self-awareness is essential for effective weight
management (Kaveh & Peyrovi, 2019).
Friday, March 15, 2024 28
29. CONCLUSION
Study highlighted challenges for obese nurses in weight management due to demanding
work environments.
Barriers include limited time, resources, and motivation.
Poor management and a strenuous environment contribute to unhealthy eating habits.
Emphasizing comprehensive measures for roster management, communication, nurse
shortages, health facilities, and employee incentives to improve the work environment
and patient care.

30. LIMITATIONS
Sample Size and Diversity: A sample size of 12 participants is relatively small, which limit
the transferability of findings to a broader population of obese nurses. (age, gender, ethnicity,
work setting, etc).
Selection Bias: The participants in study not be representative of all obese nurses. (have
unique characteristics or experiences that differ from non- participants)
Self-Reporting and Social Desirability Bias : social desirability bias (reporting what they
perceive as socially acceptable), or inaccuracies in self-reporting.
External Factors & contextual specificity

31. RECOMMENDATIONS
Broader studies on the hospital managers and coworkers to explore potential solutions.
Implement targeted interventions and policy changes within healthcare organizations to
address the study's identified obstacles.
Prioritize emotional well-being in the nursing profession by developing a supportive
work environment that recognizes and resolves the unique emotional issues that nurses
confront, such as patient discomfort and the stress of the job.
Friday, March 15, 2024 31
32. RECOMMENDATIONS
Research and execute treatments for obese nurses
Work towards stigmatization weight-related challenges in the nursing profession and
promoting a culture of understanding and support.
A long-term study aims to assess the effects of weight loss programs on work
satisfaction, performance, and general well-being among obese nurses
