Fetal nuchal translucency thickness and the presence or absence of reversed flow in the ductus venosus can help determine the risk of major cardiac defects in a fetus during the first trimester. The risk increases with greater nuchal translucency thickness and is higher if reversed flow is present in the ductus venosus compared to if flow is normal.
