The Effects Of Thalidomide And Its Effects On Children
Thalidomide Paper Thalidomide is a drug that was invented in Germany in the 1950 s. It was
originally intended to treat respiratory infections but during testing, it was noted that the drug
worked to relieve morning sickness for pregnant women. This new reason allowed the drug to be
prescribed to many new patients all over the world. Eventually Thalidomidewas discovered to be
causing birth defects in all of the pregnant women that were taking it. It caused the fetusto not
develop correctly by causing limbs of the body or ears to develop improperly or not develop at
all. It also cause spinal cord and digestive system defects as well as problems to the heart and
kidneys. Thalidomide stopped being prescribed but not before many children and families were
affected worldwide who had taken the drug. It took a couple of years before other countries
caught up to realize that thalidomide was causing the birth defects and removed from being an
over the counter drug in many countries. It wasn t until 1961 that it was completely removed after
it was confirmed that it was causing birth defects. More than 10000 babies were born with defects
and approximately killed 2000 before birth, but fewer than 100 were born here in the U.S.
Short term effects included possible still born babies, and children with many health problems and
complications that severely impacted their quality of life. How much damage the Thalidomide did
to the fetus depended on how early on the mother took the drug.

ENEL 301 2015
FOUNDATIONS OF ENGINEERING ECONOMICS AND MANAGEMENT
ASSESSMENT 2
MANAGEMENT PRACTICE REVIEW
Student: Liang Ma
ID: 41947724
Date: 22 Aug, 2015
Introduction
This report expresses the comparison between management theory from ENEL301 course and
workplace reality, on the organisation s structure and design, using the organisation that the writer
has worked for as a case study, to show how appropriate and successful the organisation is, in
respect to the nature of its work, employees and company goals. The report not only demonstrates
the current management theories and observed behaviour within the organisation, but also compares
and discusses the difference between theory and reality, along with recommendations for the
organisation on how the structure should be amended based on the analysis.
Brief Description
Prior to my engineering study, I used to work for one of the local supermarkets (New World Ilam)
as a scan coordinator. Some of my major roles were:
Compose and draft all outgoing correspondence and reports for managers, oversee promotion and
marketing strategies.
Oversee inventory and supply purchases.
Keep organised documentation of invoices.
Liaise with vendors to maintain inventory of store supplies.
Work directly and coordinately with all the department managers to achieve maximum performance.

Research Paper On Fiji
Welcome to my vacation to Fiji! I traveled to Fiji for 14 days/ 2 weeks. I would go back in a
heartbeat. I went to many tourists attractions all around the 332 islands of Fiji. The white sand
and crystal clear water was a plus, too. Fiji is a beautiful place and I hope that you can travel to
Fiji someday, too. After reading this, you will know everything you need to know before traveling
to Fiji.
Officially, Fiji is called the Republic of Fiji. Fiji is a part of the South Pacific island group called
Oceania. Fiji is a group of islands in between Hawaii and New Zealand. The islands are 1,100 miles
north of New Zealand. The Fiji islands formed from an ancient subduction zone. Fiji has more
land mass than all of the Melanesian islands combined. Fiji s highest location is Mount Tomanivi.
Mount Tomanivi is 4, 344 feet tall. The two main islands of Fiji are Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
The two main islands of Fiji, make up 87% of the population. The capital of Fiji is Suva. Suva has a
population of 77, 336.Three quarters of Fijians live on Viti Levu. There are a total of 332 islands in

You also must take off your hat while you re in the village. If you do wear your hat while in the
Fijian villages, the Fijian villages chief considers it very disrespectful and insulting to him.
Usually the chief is an older man in the village. Also, leaving your shoes outside the door before
you go inside, is very respectful and appreciated. One thing that I personally think is pretty odd, is
that Fijians think it is very disrespectful and insulting to touch someone s head. You also must
speak quietly, because when you talk loudly it is taken that you are angry. There are many
different cultures, ethnics, and religions in Fiji. But, the main religion is Christian. They speak
three main languages in Fiji: English, Fijian, and Fiji Hindi. Fiji is very educated. Their literacy

Special Prison Populations
Corrections are an important part of the criminal justice system and they work in concert with
law enforcement and the courts. Citizens in the United States expect criminals to be monitored,
with some in secured facilities, so they will not fear of becoming continual victim of crime. To
illustrate this expectation further, there are 2.5 million individuals on probation or parole and 1
million individuals in jails or prisons (Morris Tonry, 2013, p. 370). However, does every individual
confined in jails and prisons still need to be there or is there a better way to deal with certain
special prisonpopulations? Due to the large number of prisoners within the correctional system,
certain special populations of inmates do not receive the rehabilitation or care needed to
successfully reintegrate back into society. Additionally, these special populations create an undue
burden on the correctional system in terms of financial costs associated with their confinement.
There are changes that can be made to the criminal justicesystem to accommodate special
populations of inmates. This paper will explore the alternative... Show more content on

Between 1900 and 2000, the life expectancy in this country has risen from 47 to 78 years of age
(Rikard Rosenberg, 2013, p. 404). Although the older population has grown from 4% to 13% in the
United States during the same period, the elder prison population has grown substantially. For
example, between 1994 and 1998, Texas saw an 86% increase in the elderly prison populations
while California expects to see a 200% increase by 2020 (Rikard Rosenberg, 2013, p. 404). When
determining the need to incarcerate an elderly individual, several costly considerations must be
made. Elderly inmates require more medical care compared to the younger prisoners and special
accommodations must be consider for older inmates (Rikard Rosenberg, 2013, p.

PHL 260 E010 Does God intervene in the world? This may address matters of religious
experience and/or miracles. I will further give my personal thought and opinion on the question
as well as discuss two different viewpoints on the question. I will discuss the difference between
Naturalists and Supernaturalists as well as discussing the point of view on how miracles are not
real according to David Hume as well as discussing why I along with J.L Mackie and Richard
Swinburne agree that miracles are in fact real. Growing up as a Roman Catholic, I have always

According to Mackie, The laws of nature describe the ways in which the world, including humans,
works when left to itself and not interfered with. A miracle occurs when the world is not left to
itself, when something distinct from the natural order as a whole intrudes into it. (Mackie 1982:
19 20) The violation definition becomes practically equal to the earlier definition of a miracle as an
event that exceeds the dynamic power of nature. According to Mackie s design, it has the necessary
feature that it makes evident the connection between a miracle and supernatural being. Mackie also
stated that evidence that supports a simplification being a law of nature also supports the non

A Life Lived for a Community
A Life Lived for a Community
In a little tan house with dark shutters on Monroe Street in Troy, Missouri, there lives a woman
with an easy smile and twinkling eyes. By the park commonly called by the locals, the Duck
Pond Park, this woman lives quietly where she has for many years now, and no one who passes
by can guess as what lies in that little house. This woman has a drive to make an impact on the
community with her all of her time and her energy. This woman is named Altha Marsh. She
someone who has spent her life striving to help and inspire other people every day, and most
people don t even know that she is doing it. And to her that isn t important because she has a love
for helping people, just as her Grandfather taught her too, all those years ago in Elsberry, Lincoln
County, Missouri.
Altha was originally born in the pint sized town of Brunswick Missouri, which in 2010, had a
population of a whopping 838 people (city data.com).In the early 1940 s, when she was born, the
population was 1,749, much larger than it is today (Missouri Census Data Center). After she was
born, she moved as often as a bumblebee in spring due to her Father s occupation as high school
band teacher. The home she remembers most from her childhood, after a series of small towns, is
in Elsberry, Missouri, when she lived near her three grandparents.

future to secure the death of their human patients. Screwtape typically characterizes humanity as
being foolish. He thinks his strategies can easily manage the humans and can change their entire
life. At beginning of the book, Screwtape explains the difficulties that human faces in their lives.
Because humans have free will, they constantly make decisions between good and evil, or between
God and Satan. Since humans free will makes them weak and prone to temptation, Screwtape
unwillingly admits that free will is also a problem for devils. The humans constantly faces
temptation and God rewards them for resisting it through out their lives. If humans

Train Dreams Summary
In the fictional story Train Dreams, Denis Johnson has us follow the main character, Robert
Grainier, through his best and worst times of his life. Grainier is part of a family of three, him, his
wife, and daughter. With the death of his wife and daughter, he tries to come to terms with these
deaths and creates a new life for himself. Johnson creates a theme of deathand rebirthbecause that is
how life goes on. Everything must die, nothing can last forever. With death around things and
people, they must be reborn to survive.
When Grainier meet his wife, Gladys, it was like love at first sight for him. He met Gladys
during a Methodists church seminar. She was sitting across from him and singing softly. After
the seminar the two of them talked so easily to each other and then started to hangout more and
more. Right after their first kiss together he said, Would you care to be my wife, Gladys? In
return Gladys said, Yes, Bob, I believe I would like it (39). They had built a cabin in the Moyea
Valley and had a daughter. With Grainier working as a choker, which loops up the spruces with a
cable to be hauled out by the horses, pulled further and further away from home. In the summer of
1920 he came back from a job and discovered the whole Moyea Valley on fire.
With the Moyea Valley on fire he searched the folks in the neighboring town to see if his familywas
there or if anybody knew where they were. Nobody had word on his family so he decided to walk

From this high number of inmates there are 803 gang members, 900 associates to these gangs, 325
inactive gang members, and 1,050 gang dropouts. Inmates join a gang by racial and
demographically where your from. You might ask the question why in the world would someone
join a gangin prison, especially with all the violence we see or hear on the television. Once you

The Aryan Brotherhood is to blame for much of the meth trafficking in the streets. Prison guards
often work with gangs to bring drugs in the prison for money from the gangs. If these guards are
caught they sometimes are charged for racketeering but sometimes only fired from their job and
not charged with a crime. Prison gangs also smuggle cell phones to other inmates for money.
This crime is often also helped by prison guards. These guards are often bribed for money or
threatened with violence if they do not listen to the gangs. Tobacco and illicit drugs are also
smuggled into the prisons by the prison gangs and guards for money. One pack of cigarettes can
cost up to 200 dollars. Inmates will often trade cigarette packs for drugs or vise versa. Postal
stamps are also sold by the gangs since they can get it cheaper on the streets then buying it from
the prison. Low security inmates often smuggle the contraband in for the gangs since they are
not being watched as close as the gang leaders or highly ranked members. The low security
inmates then call the gang leader or member on phones that have been smuggled in beforehand
to coordinate the smuggle. Gang members will get jobs with the prison so its easier to smuggle
the contraband in. Any members or guards that are involved in the smuggling will be paid by
paypal or western union. This is often achieved by help from the outside of the prison like family
members and friends from the streets. Gangs often mark up the price of illegal contraband:
(drugs, tobacco, cell phones, stamps ect.) , by 20,000 percent from the street price. The gangs will
only move a little bit of money at a time so law enforcement wont be able to catch

The American Dream Truly Attainable For Everyone
America, the country where social and economic equality are supposedly attainable for one and
all, is not always infallible. There have been many blunders along the way with racism and
incompetence. Is the American Dream truly attainable for everyone? Picture the 1940 s America.
A tight knit Japanese American family living on the west coast, is going about their business,
making a living and trying to achieve their version of the American Dream. While the parents are
immigrants from Japan, the children were all born in the U.S. The parents and older children
have jobs and work hard to afford a nice suburban life, while the younger children go to school to
learn to be good citizens. They go about their business, never bothering anyone and have adapted to
the American lifestyle. As they are working to achieve their dreams, the world and devastation of
war cut their dreams short, forcing them into devastating conditions and choices no one should
have to make. Families are split apart and the Japanese Americans are now looked at as the enemy.
The attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese and the signing of the Executive Order 9066 sent over
100,000 Japanese Americans to internment camps, many times tragically changing their definition
of America and the American Dream. The novel, Farewell To Manzanar, by Jeanne Wakatsuki
Houston and her husband James, is an autobiographical account of Jeanne s internment experiences
and feelings as a young girl at the Manzanar Internment Camp. This

Dead Man Laughing By Zadie Smith
In the story Dead Man Laughing , Zadie Smith (December 22, 2008) shares an emotional and
significant aspect of her life, through the use of comedy. Additionally, Smith successfully conveyed
to the reader the great impact that comedy has had on her, and why she determined to use humor as
a way to relate to her father. From the very beginning, Smith introduces her father s favorite hobby;
comedy. As it says, my father had few enthusiasms, but he loved comedy (1). She then goes on
explaining the uniqueness of comedy, how it gave her father freedom and that their is no
division of social status when it comes to comedy; comedy was and will always be true freedom.
She informs the reader of several British comedians and comedy history, mentioning how they all
had different styles. For example, one comedian would continuously make fun of himself, other
would make fun of their culture, and social status. On the other hand, she also mentions that
people do not have to be funny to go on stage. In the world of comedy, if you are absolutely
determined to stand on a stage for five minutes with a mike in your hand, someone in London will
let you do it, if only once (7).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay Television Violence
Television Violence
Violence is one of the most primary and controversial issues in today s society. And true that
violence is on the rise. A major concern for many parents is the violence within television shows
and movies, and the effect on children s aggression. I particularly do not believe that violence in
television affects children s aggression, but who am I to say such a thing, for I am not a qualified
psychologist. But I have many reasons for my accusation and references to back it up. Now
television plays a major role in today s society, and it occupies almost every home in the United
States. Parents have such a big concern for the children watching television, but children throughout

Cartoons play the majority of the role. They have been around for centuries. So why make such a
big deal about them now? Are the cartoons in earlier years any different from newer cartoons? Yes
I agree, but there is a purpose. The
Monaco 2 newer cartoons attract the newer generation. If parents say that cartoons now are more
violent than those of earlier years than why are there so many, and so many different ratings
accompanied with the beginning of every show. What about Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck with
Elmer Fudd, and how many fights and hunting scenes there was. What about Road Runner and
how many times Wylie Coyote tried to kill him. All these cartoons amused many children in
earlier years and present years. So why start complaining now? Can parents not control their
children? Maybe parents should pay more close attention to what their children watch, instead of
making excuses and blaming others for practically their own decisions. Because it was their
decision to have children, right? Like all children s shows and movies, it let s the mind run free,
and also let s the children be imaginative within their own realm of mind. So let s not take these
away, and just try to limit what they watch. Let us rate these shows and movies. Oh yeah, the
government did that. But yet parents still let children watch the movies and shows that they did not
want to watch in the first place. Is there something wrong here? Parents complain, laws are passed

Obamacare s Cadillac Tax
In 2018, Obamacare s Cadillac tax will be implemented. The Cadillac tax is an excise tax on high
value insurance plans. Employer plans that are worth more than $10,200 for an individual or

Research Paper On World Hunger
The Oxford Dictionary defines hunger as a feeling of discomfort or weakness caused by lack of
food, coupled with the desire to eat 1. World hunger, however, takes this definition and brings it
to a global scale. Internationally, there is an estimated 850 million people that don t have enough
food to lead a healthy lifestyle. While this number has gone down by 100 million in the last
decade2, it is still the worlds leading health risk and the poor nutrition that comes with it is still the
cause of death for nearly 3.1 million children under the age of 5 each year3. Thankfully, there are
organisations that work to end world hunger. However, this leads me to my focus question
Is there enough support and awareness to stop world hunger and prevent the undernourishment of
children?
My aim was to find out whether organisations that work towards ending world hunger and the
undernourishment of children have enough support and awareness to reach their goals. My primary
resource is a survey that was conducted in my community. My secondary resource include the

websites.

Honor In The Once And Future King
From the days of chivalry and knighthood, to modern times in which recognitions such as the
medal of honor are given, to possess the complex perception of one s peers containing honor is
highly sought after. Honor is not a materialistic item that can be bought or obtained, but rather
must be earned and recognized by the aspects of one s character and actions. For nearly all
people in the past in the days of chivalry as well as select individuals in modern society, honor is
the driving force behind every action, and is the one true virtuethat defies their character and
mindset. For a man to be honorable, one must uphold the human conscience, and in a society

Many knights such as Lancelot strived to act in accordance with the guidelines set forth by
chivalry and perform only with the notion that others are watching one s every move. The basis
of the plot and the forthcoming events that had taken place were of a great majority affected by
honor and chivalry. The novel s plot follows directly behind the aspects of honor and the
character s determination to meet the standards and recognition that honor entails, and also
follows the characters that ignore the obsession for honor and how it shapes their character.
Gawaine is a character in the novel who does not follow the guidelines of chivalry, and is rather
disgusted by honor and the mindset that honorable people follow. Gawaine does not follow the
universal sense of right or wrong, yet rather follows the instinct that enables his brawn and
fighting to shape his character (White 166). The unhonorable characters such as Gawaine and
numerous others as well as the characters containing the aspects of honor allow for the novel s

What I Would Never Have Believed That Concepts From Economics
Prior to writing this, I would never have believed that concepts from economics would have fit into
my decisions in course selections. But, now looking at the individual concepts and what they really
entail, it makes perfect sense.
As a sophomore picking out classes, I had free choice whether to enter the CP course, the Honors
course or the AP course. The only reason why I was able to choose between these three courses
was because of my grades. This is similar to the concept of barriers to entry in economics; the
students are the new firms, the courses are the industries, and the different grades are the actual
barrier into the courses. During sophomore year, I maintained an average grade in the honors
history course of higher than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, some of the benefits included more credit, a more interesting topic, and learning
more. On the other hand, the costs included more time dedicated, a harder course, and the AP
test. These costs were of a lesser importance than the benefits were, plus, the AP test could be
beneficial. By using this concept, I determined that taking the AP course did benefit me more in
the long run than taking the honors course. One of the major benefits that I looked at was
whether taking this course would help benefit me in the long run. I used the concept of human
capital , thinking that with this course and my other collective knowledge that I would gather
from other classes, I was preparing myself to be a well rounded student and so possibly more
successful in the future. In taking the AP course, I would learn a slightly different topic than the
Honors or CP classes, and at a higher level of difficulty. I would definitely learn the topic and
broaden my knowledge, but I would also learn more skills, like managing time wisely and
different studying skills for a harder course. On the other hand, the costs of taking the AP course
was like the concept of opportunity cost , the things I had to give up in order to take the course.
For one, I would have to give up taking an easier course, and perhaps a better grade, if I opted to
take the AP course. I would also have to give up more of my time to prepare for the course, hence

Nigerian Diaspora And The African Diaspora
I am a part of the Nigerian diaspora, one of the millions of Nigerians living in a foreign nation. I
moved to the United States at the age of 8 and since then, the Nigerian culture I had known and
brought with me has changed and adapted to the dominant culture of the USA. Many Nigerian
families and communities abroad are faced with the same internal struggle of holding onto their
traditional cultural values, while ensuring enough adaptation into the dominant culture. Due to the
diversity of nations Nigerian migrants have settled in, the end result, a hyphenated Nigerian
identity, differs greatly across continents and countries. Through the Frances L. Phillips scholarship,
I would like the opportunity to explore the Nigerian diaspora communities in 6 different Western
Europecountries and how these communities have shifted and adapted due to the dominant culture

Narrow Crib Review
The Oeuf Sparrow Crib has a painted finish and is in a modern style. It comes in a low height to
offer parents and caregiver s ease of accessing baby. This particular crib is made in Europe and
follows strict environmental standards. In the tradition of European cribs, the Oeuf Sparrow is
constructed of slim side rails to give the crib a light, airy European feel. The mattresshas 3 heights
to allow the crib to grow with the child. It has a conversion kit that can be purchased to allow the
crib to last up to age 5. The crib meets or exceeds all Australian, Canadian, and European as well
as U.S. safety standards. It is also eco friendly with finishes being made using non toxic and water
based, free of VOC health hazards materials.

It also receives high marks for ease of assembly, which is important to anyone purchasing large
baby furniture. Anyone looking for a crib that caters to a need to save space will notice that this
is a definite feature of the Oeuf Sparrow crib. Beauty and sturdiness are not the only qualities
users remark about they also express pleasure in how functional the crib design is for those
attending to the needs of a baby or toddler. The Oeuf Sparrow crib is not for someone on a
budget or for those who like heavy crib designs. This is definitely a crib for those who like
modern furniture or desire something that is light and classy looking. It definitely falls into the
higher priced category of cribs but is something a person expects when shopping for a quality
product designed to last for several years of constant use. There is no smell to the crib when first
assembled as has been stated in other crib reviews just a wood smell that goes away after a week.

The Role Of Genocide In Rwanda
In April of 1994, a terrible atrocity began in the African country of Rwanda where around eight
hundred thousand individuals were massacred over a time period of 100 brutal days. If thought
about in mathematical terms, this works out to about 333 deaths per hour; which is a rate of
deaths worse than what occurred during the Holocaust. (2) The term genocide is defined in the
United Nations Genocide Convention, established in 1948, as any of the following acts committed
with the intent to destroy in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, as such:
a) killing members of the group; b) causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the
group; c) deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to... Show more content on

Paul Bernardo s Case Study
When Paul Bernardo was a teenager, he became interested in women because of his porn
obsession and acted on what he saw through films and magazines ( Paul Bernardo: Criminal
Biography, 2017). By viewing this inappropriate media, he knew what type of woman he lusted
after; one that was submissive and eager to please him ( Paul Bernardo: Criminal Biography,

Identification means the steps needed in the analysis of unknown fluids to see what the

Processing biological trace evidence uses highly complex, automated technology to create a
DNA profile that helps the investigators through the association of suspects to victims and to
crime scenes ( Biology Services, 2017). By using techniques such as polymerase chain reaction
(PCR), forensic biologists can use variable markers found on the regular chromosomes (STR s),
the sex chromosomes (Y STR s) and within the mitochondrial DNA to distinguish one person s
DNA from another to a high degree of certainty ( Biology, 2016). Forensic biologists are involved

from Bernardo as a matter of routine to test it against specimens found on a rape victim s clothing

Evolution Of Homo Sapiens
The study on the evolution of human beings often presents many challenges. One of the main
challenges is the limited evidence and the constant emergence of new forms of evidence. From time
to time, scientists encounter the challenge of naming the fossils and putting them into their
appropriate group of species. This paper is going to be discussing the Homo erectus, Homo
Heidelbergensis, and Archaic Homo sapiens. The paper will make comparative analysis of the
individual species and point out why they deserve to be categorized as distinct species instead of a
one species that has different characteristics due to geographical differences.
Homo Heidelbergensis approximately lived about 600,000 years ago. This simply means the

The earlier species display a lower brain capacity per cubic centimeter. This is a progressive
change that is relative to the advancement of time. This shows that as time moved on, the earlier
version improved. And it has gradually but distinctly developed along with the human evolution.
The three types should indeed be categorized as different species. However, there are other times
when some differences should be considered a result of geographic differences. This applies for
instance in the case of Homo Erectus and Homo ergaster, proving the words of scientist that the two
have such a close similarity during the time of existence.
The other species that that could be confusing and be presented as the same species of the pre
modern man is Ancient Homo sapiens and Homo Erectus. The two populations, though they
present some clear differences, it is possible that they may have been the same species but different
families or developed the differences due to the regional and geographical

Difficulties Of Monarchs
One difficulty monarchs encountered with the nobles was they were rebellious and hard to deal
with. One difficulty monarchs encountered with the church was the issue of monarchs wanting to
try the clergy. To start off, an example of the nobles being rebellious and hard to deal occurred
when King John was in charge of England. The English nobles that were around during King John
s reign were rebellious and hard to deal with because a group of nobles cornered John and forced
him to sign the Magna Carta which gave the nobles more rights. King John being forced to sign
the Magna Carta shows the nobles were rebellious and hard to deal with. Even though he didn t

Why Does History Matter
A question often asked is, Why does history matter? History is a subject taught to people all around
the world and is essential to the survival of the human race. History matters because it connects
things through time, helps present day people to make better decisions than their predecessors
based on pastevents, and teaches individuals about their heritage.
First, history matters because it connects all things throughout the fabric of time. People are like
living histories because each has a rich past full of ancestors and events that brought them to the
place they are in present day. History connects the past and present in many ways that most people

existence. I have always been fascinated in the rich history of my family. Being first generation

is to leave your family and home behind to create a new life. My grandmother, on my mother s

Caesarea Maritima Essay
The site of Caesarea Maritima contains many unique challenges for archaeological excavations. In
spite of this, through pottery analysis, archaeologists are able to learn about different aspects of the
site. Nonetheless, Caesarea Maritima has a variety of specific challenges associated with it for
archaeologists. Not only does it cover a significant section of the coastal region, but the immense
harbour, over time, has been completely submerged in the sea. Along with geographical challenges,
there are also historical ones. The site of Caesarea Maritima was inhabited from Hellenistic time
until the Crusaders, a period spanning over 900 years. As it was continuously inhabited, the

At the site of Tell el Hesi, Petrie noticed specific styles of pottery at different stages of the dig
(Petrie 1890). By a comparison of the different pottery forms with similar pieces dated from
previous sites, Petrie was able to date the surrounding material through the pottery. Significantly, by
studying the pottery forms, Petrie created an association between specific dates and forms of
pottery (Petrie 1891) thus created a chronology which revolutionised the archaeology of the Levant.
To give an illustration of the impact which Petrie s discovery has had upon archaeology in the
Levant, his chronology has been used on archaeological sites in the region throughout the past
century (Cole 1984; Tushingham 1986). In Caesarea Maritima Petrie s discovery of dating a site
through the pottery has assisted with dating both the city and the harbour of Sebastos. In the
harbour, the discovery of pottery was interpreted as evidence that the city was importing goods
via sea trade, during the 3rd century AD (Hohlfelder 1988). While excavating Caesarea Maritima
the Department of Antiquities in Israel discovered that an area they were excavating was
abandoned during the Arab conquest (Yeivin 1955, p. 123). Yet, because there was evidence of
pottery from the eighth and ninth centuries in addition to some lamps, it was evidence that after
the site had been abandoned it was resettled. Because of the discovery of Mameluke pottery, it
became apparent that the site was superceded during the Crusader period (Yeivin 1955, p. 123).
Petrie s discovery of the association between pottery and dating, therefore, has assisted in the
archaeology of Caesarea

The Use Of Light In White Mirror
Light is often used in films and television to show underlying thematic tensions in the narrative. In
the episode White Mirror from the Netflix series Black Mirror, the juxtaposition between light and
dark is used to show how Joe is struggling to accept the truth that he killed two people. In the first
scene and in the confession scene lightfrom the outside world represents truth, the darkness of the
cabin represents avoidance of the truth, and the shift between light to dark shows Joe s
transformation from avoidance to acceptance of his past.
Light is often associated with many ideas, so when the white light of the windows shine into the
cabin, it is necessary to consider the association light has within this narrative. The light in this

Girl With Prayer Summary
Explication of poem: Girl With Prayer
The poem Girl With Prayer by Ruben Quesada illustrates a person that is in deep grief or perhaps
traumatized by the accident which the speaker has witnessed when the narrator was a kid. As well,
the speaker has vivid memories from the accident that currently is distressing the speaker. For
instance, the speaker says; the same dream comes (2), which indicates the speaker or narrator is
going through a hard time, perhaps when the speaker is sleeping and dreaming, the scenario of
accident takes place as a memory and nightmare, which is affecting the speaker mentally and
psychologically. As result, the narrator feels exhausted. Thus, the person narrating the poem feels
trapped by girl s accident which disturbs the personal life of the narrator and recalling the accident
appears to lead the speaker to feel exhausted.
The author does provide a title to his poem; Girl With Prayer which involves religion and the girl
is associated with it. After a runaway car has hit the girl, the girl s body is physically damaged;
Her face bruised/arms blasted to bone (12 13). Therefore, the girl s body injured seems to trigger
the speaker to fall on exhaustion (1). Besides, the speaker happens to be at the scene where the
accident took place since the speaker s mother carried the girl, lay or put down the girl on the
edge of the sidewalk. The narrator states then my mother helps her off the street/to the curb (13
14), where the girl finally passes away. The narrator lets the reader know the girl dies when;
...again, everything is silent (14) the silence implies something much worse has happened after the
girl has been put aside. Afterwards, the narrator states slowly the Lord s Prayer ruptures her split
lips (15), suggesting that the mother prayed for the deceased girl on the sidewalk. However, the
focus is on the child that now seems to be a young adult that it is having personal issues. As when
the speaker mentions, when I fall...from exhaustion (1), and the same dream comes (2), illustrates
the speaker is going through tough time and having flashbacks from the girl s accident, when the
speaker is sleeping and dreaming. The accident has become a nightmare because the speaker

Visual Art Reflection Papers
During the short six weeks of Art Therapy class I was surprised on all the positive things I
learned in such short period of time. We covered different modalities in Art therapy which
encouraged participants to be creative and make use of their imagination. For this intermodal
Art experience paper I created a visual art poster that expressed my current feelings and
emotions. I began to look for images that expressed my personal emotional state; I was surprised
with what emerged from my visual art poster. It illustrated visual images of stress on one side to
images of success on the opposite side. There was so much nonverbal expression in one piece of
visual art, as it spoke for itself without words. As I contemplated the poster and its messages, I
moved to a second modality, in response to the visual art poster I wrote a poem in response to
the Art piece. The poem came about naturally; my feelings flowed into words which made me
feel good about the visual art poster that I had created. As an inexperienced poetry writer I felt
that my poem was not as good as an experienced poetry writer. However I still tried it, as I began
to write I began to think of what message the visual art poster conveyed to me, including what
emotions it provoked. Several questions came to mind, what were the visual images on the poster
saying about me? And why did I create such piece? Author Malchiodi (2007) notes that First, art

Similarities Between The Tortilla Curtain And Child Dead...
The Tortilla Curtain by T. C. Boyle and Child, Dead, in the Rose Garden by E.L. Doctorow are
similar in some ways and different in others. Tortilla Curtain is a novel that shows how an illegal
immigrant named Candido lives and struggles in America. While living there he went through
many difficulties. The circumstances were having multiple jobs but still being poor, which lead to
him not having a decent home to live in his wife, AmerГca, instead having to live in a campsite.
Also, Candido was injured from a car accident and could not work and lastly, him being an illegal
immigrant was a consequence. Even though he went through these situations, he still stayed in
America just to live his American Dream. Child, Dead in the Rose Garden tells the story of an
illegal alienboy who died and was placed in the White Houserose garden. Detective Molloy

Argumentative Essay On Who Controls Texas
Heather Loos Professor Sherry Sherifian Govt 2306 73436 30 April 2017 Who Controls Texas?
Texas might be a small government state, but it is a proud and stubbornly independent one. With
the 84th legislature imposing state will on local policies, politicians of all sorts are unhappy.
Regardless, there are arguments both for and against local control, and overall, they have the public
s best interests at heart.
Texas Vox is an interest group that is all for local control. They refer to themselves as the voice
of public citizen[s] in Texas (TexasVox). They consider their advocates to be very progressive,
and favor things such as policies to lower electric bills, find new clean energy sources, as well as
policies to stop nuclear plants and their unhealthy effects. They want to work with just local
control to attain their goals. They want to ensure that the citizens have voices, even in the halls of
power (TexasVox). Representative Matt Rinaldi however, has a different approach. He believes
that the state controlling local ordinances would be considered in line with liberty. He has played
a hand in things such as the house bill 1939, which would repeal the bag bans and surcharges in

My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George
This book is told from the diary of the main character, Sam Gribley. Sam is a boy full of
determination. He didn t give up and go home like everyone thought he would. He is strong of

behavior. Another friend of his was a raccoon, which he dubbed, Jessie Coon James.
As I had pointed out before his diet was varied. Among the things he ate were: caught fresh
mussels, trout, frogs, turtles, and crayfish. He ate apples, wild strawberries, wild dandelion
greens, bloodroots, and cattail roots. He made salt from boiling birch bark to season his food with.
He did manage to retrieve a deer a poacher had shot. That was pretty scary though, as the poacher
came to his camp looking for the deer. After skinning the deer he tanned the hide in an old oak
stump. He felled the stump, burned a hole in it, and put the deerskin in it for five days, then took
it out to dry. He was able to dry deer meat, make a door for his house, made leg straps (called
jesses) for Frightful, and used the bones for spearheads.
One day in the woods he noticed a falcon, watched it, felt she had a nest, followed her, climb the
steep sheer cliffs, and retrieved a young falcon. The mother came back to the nest just as Sam was
taking the bird. She attacked Sam until she discovered there were still two more babies in the nest.
Sam named his falcon Frightful, as the experience was just that.

Mw Petroleum Essay
Valuation is the estimation of an asset s value, whether real or financial, based on variables
perceived to be related to future investment returns, on comparison with similar assets, or, when
relevant, on estimates of immediate liquidation proceeds (Pinto, Henry, Robinson, Stowe; 2010).
Correct valuation of real assets can present challenges to financial analysts. Different models can
be used to arrive at the closest estimate of value and yet certain issues will always arise. This case
attempts to tackle two approaches in real asset valuation: Discounted Cash Flow(DCF) analysis and
the issues surrounding such, as well as the Black Scholes Model for Real Options. Questions to be

Profitability of oil companies declined due to low prices; and most of these firms responded with
cost cutting measures. Many top companies divested their marginal properties, seeking to
consolidate and rationalize their productive assets one of which was Amoco Corporation. Amoco
Corporation conducted an extensive review of its cost structure and profitability (p.2), leading to
major restructurings to better focus on its core businesses. The result of this was a divestment of
the middle section of its assets along marginal curve. Morgan Stanley advised and assisted in the
process, creating MW Petroleum Corporation a new, free standing exploration and production oil

most attractive offer came from Apache Corporation. Apache Corporation was an independent oil

of oil and natural gas. Their strategy, rationalize and reconfigure involves acquiring producing
properties whose operations Apache could quickly control and make more efficient, producing

an opportunity for them. However, Apache must first carefully evaluate MW s value to come up

Dante s Voyage Through Hell
The Inferno was written by Dante Alighieri around 1314 and depicts the poet s imaginary
journey through Hell. Dante spent his life traveling from court to court both lecturing and
writing down his experiences. His Divine Comedy the three part epic poem consisting of
Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso (Hell, Purgatory and Heaven) is generally regarded as one of
the greatest poetic feats ever accomplished. All three parts are incredible literary feats with
symbolism so complex and beautiful that scholars are still unraveling all the details today.
However, this essay will focus on the first part of Dante s work, Inferno, which consists of 34
cantos. Dante s Inferno is a masterpiece of allegorical imagery where Virgil represents human...

Dante derived much of his writing inspirations from the Roman poet, Virgil. Virgil wrote many
poetics, but is probably most well known for writing the Aeneid, whose main character Dante
probably used as the basis for Virgil in his Inferno. Aeneas is a strong, brave man who also
serves as a source of comfort and familiarity to those around him. Virgil thus serves as both guide
and the representation of human reason throughout Dante s journey in Hell. His influence
cannot be understated as he is a mentor not only to Dante s character on his journey, but also to
Dante the human being. Virgil is the embodiment of reason and logic in the Inferno. He achieves
this quality through his meticulous and often graphic descriptions of the geography and
meaning of each and every circle of Hell, and of the tortures that the sinners must endure.
Although his descriptions contribute greatly to the allegorical meaning of the epic, Virgil
himself is limited in his journey throughout the Inferno due to his lack of religious affiliation by
age as he was born before Christ came to save the sins of man. In Canto IV Virgil says, I wish you
to know before you travel on that these were sinless. And still their merits fail, for they lacked
Baptism s grace, which is the door of the true faith you were born to (33 36). Virgil knows he is

Darcy And Heathcliff Compare And Character Analysis
father dies, however, Heathcliff is thrown out of his home by Catherine s brother Hindley out of

Darcy s father adopted Mr. Wickham as a child, but the adopted son proved to be a scoundrel,
gambling away his inheritance, manipulating families for money, and led Darcy to banish
Wickham from the house upon his father s death. Both stories are rooted in jealousy and
banishment, whether the main character was evicted or vice versa. The pride, hardness, and
sullenness which Heathcliff displays as a child is significant only because these traits make his
later violence possible... His nature is soil capable of nourishing violence... but the seed of
frustration has to be planted first (Hagan 147). Heathcliff was truly wronged as a child, which
assists in his transformation into a revenge driven monster. Darcy, however, is the one who

The Importance Of Beauty Adverts For Online Chinese...
As a woman on Facebook, my daily news feed is peppered with a barrage of beauty
advertisements. Ads for make up subscription boxes and diet teas wedge themselves between
harrowing news stories and cat memes. They fill side bars with flashing promises to improve
whatever it is that society says I need to improve, or reveal the next new thing to help me stay
young, unique, and relevant. While most are simply irritating and easy to ignore, none have been
quite as intriguing as the recent onslaught of ads for online Chinese clothing boutiques. These
online stores, based in places like Hong Kong and Shanghai, should easily garner customers with
images of beautiful, waif like models wearing gorgeous clothing that sells for a fraction of the...

One reason such companies can so routinely take advantage of people using Facebook s
infrastructure, they write, is that the social network s policing of users and advertisers is
limited to what happens on the service its monitoring doesn t extend to bad experiences users
have once an ad click takes them away from the site. In essence, Facebook absolves itself of any
involvement while also giving the retailers the platform to advertise as unscrupulously and
aggressively as they wish. It would appear that this unchecked partnership is the gateway for
many risky clothing purchases, but Chinese boutiques have also followed a trend set by larger
retailers to use bloggers instead of models to sell clothing. Beauty and fashion bloggers tend to
review these retailers extremely favorably, usually after partnering with the retailers through so
called blogger programs to receive free clothes in exchange for positive reviews and a flattering
camera angle while they model their latest clothing haul (Porter). Popular bloggers wearing and
promoting the hottest fashions can contribute greatly to increased desirability. According to Nia
Porter, author of Racked article Are High Fashion Copies Actually Legal, bloggers with high social
media influence (that is, bloggers with a larger than average following) that participate in blogger

Discovery In The Pagan World
The Unseen World is a novel that explains an unpleasant past story of a brilliant, socially
unskilled father with secret information named David, who works as a director in a computer
science lab in Boston. David s disappointment of his past, urges him to create a virtual world
where he can express himself and live through artificial intelligence by personifying his desired life
through his computer system. The vibrant story of Ada which is told from childhood to adulthood
in David s house portrays as an outsider worldthat is very memorable, bright with some possible
reservation yet full of curiosity and passion. The Unseen World themes are the mystery, heartbreak,
and the lack of inhibition that is usually felt in the comfort of one s own home. The house in the
novel represents the place of protection where... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When someone is isolated from the real world, they develop the impression that they are different
from others. This situation often makes them adapt to any device as a companion, which as a result
programs their mind to the only environment they expose. This occurrence often tends to create a
virtual world for someone who constantly practices this life style. The concept of seclusion is
worth taking into consideration because it helps to understand the parental influence on child
behavior in the house. In regard to Ada in the novel, she was not socially involved because of the
way David raised her. As the author, Liz Moore illustrates in the novel The Unseen World she could
not get used to this fact about girls her own age: their volume, their exuberance, the outlandishness
of their humor; the way they invented wild, improbable scenarios in their heads and then speculated
about them. (P 209) She acquires her own thinking and moral values from the artificial intelligence
Elixir, values that go beyond human thinking that usually come from traditions and

Media s Influence On The Socialization Of A Child
As media technology now offers various ways to access TV contents, such as on the Internet,
cell phones and iPad, it leads children to spend more time watching animations and movies.
According to a Kaiser family foundation study, 8 10 year old children expose average 7 hours 51
minutes to media in a typical day. 11 14 year old children and 15 18 year old children spend
average 11 hours in a day. (Victoria et al.) Children thoroughly perceive and accept the concepts
from media, so it is the powerful medium and cramming education method that control
consciousness and create the imitation. Animations and movies, as the most accessible media,
significantly have an effect on the process of socialization of children to form personality traits and
the concept of the gender.
Gender has been portraying stereotypically for a long period in the history of media. Media plays a
very vital role in the socialization of a child or even adult, through different the storyline, characters
and dramatization of different genders through different theme and portrayals. Traditionally, media
have broadened the representation of male. In the presence of male and female characters in
animated cartoons, 67.4% characters were male and only 32.6% were female. It showed that male
characters out numbered female characters in the animated cartoons broadcasted from the
worldwide popular channel, Cartoon Network.(Ahmed, Shumaila, and Juliana A. Wahab) Disney s
new face, Pixar studios, has released nine

The Holocaust Holocaust
When referring to the Holocaust defined by (Oxford Dictionary) as Destruction or slaughter on a
mass scale, especially caused by fire or nuclear war: we have to take into account the global
awareness and knowledge of that time. We, as a planet, have come to acknowledge the Holocaust
not as the aforementioned and defined, but as the time in which, between 1939 and 1945, Nazi
Germany, lead by Adolf Hitler, persecuted and massacred approximately six million Jews, as well
as a plethora of other individuals, including the mentally handicapped, communists, poles,
gypsies, homosexuals (just to name a few), as well as attempting to conquer the world. It is
estimated that no less than ten million casualties were a result of the Nazi agenda, out of combat
(The History Place). Giving reference to the question, in this essay I will outline and counterpoint
two keys questions when regarding the approaches of functionalists and intenationalists, firmly
rooting them as the crux as my debate, which are: Did Adolf Hitler have a so called master plan
in bringing about the Holocaust, and where did the initiative come from? I will now proceed to
open the debate, by first giving a brief outline as both approaches and what they encompass.
Arguably the best Historian to define what exactly functionalism and intentionalism is as a concept
relating to the Holocaust is that of the man who first used the terms functionalist and intentionalist ;

My Research Topic is:
Webserver Implementation On FPGA Using NIOSII Processor
Introduction:
It s an undeniable fact that the Network systems domain is growing rapidly and almost on a daily
basis there are new applications and systems that require Networking processors and controllers.
Also with each new application the features required from a controller or processor also keeps
changing. Various microcontroller manufacturers have come up with various microcontroller
families to cater to these requirements. But the problem with these is that of interoperability i.e. the
architecture, the programming tools, languages, debugging and testing tools vary vastly and hence
becomes a major limiting factor.

  • 2. The Effects Of Thalidomide And Its Effects On Children Thalidomide Paper Thalidomide is a drug that was invented in Germany in the 1950 s. It was originally intended to treat respiratory infections but during testing, it was noted that the drug worked to relieve morning sickness for pregnant women. This new reason allowed the drug to be prescribed to many new patients all over the world. Eventually Thalidomidewas discovered to be causing birth defects in all of the pregnant women that were taking it. It caused the fetusto not develop correctly by causing limbs of the body or ears to develop improperly or not develop at all. It also cause spinal cord and digestive system defects as well as problems to the heart and kidneys. Thalidomide stopped being prescribed but not before many children and families were affected worldwide who had taken the drug. It took a couple of years before other countries caught up to realize that thalidomide was causing the birth defects and removed from being an over the counter drug in many countries. It wasn t until 1961 that it was completely removed after it was confirmed that it was causing birth defects. More than 10000 babies were born with defects and approximately killed 2000 before birth, but fewer than 100 were born here in the U.S. Short term effects included possible still born babies, and children with many health problems and complications that severely impacted their quality of life. How much damage the Thalidomide did to the fetus depended on how early on the mother took the drug. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I went to many tourists attractions all around the 332 islands of Fiji. The white sand and crystal clear water was a plus, too. Fiji is a beautiful place and I hope that you can travel to Fiji someday, too. After reading this, you will know everything you need to know before traveling to Fiji. Officially, Fiji is called the Republic of Fiji. Fiji is a part of the South Pacific island group called Oceania. Fiji is a group of islands in between Hawaii and New Zealand. The islands are 1,100 miles north of New Zealand. The Fiji islands formed from an ancient subduction zone. Fiji has more land mass than all of the Melanesian islands combined. Fiji s highest location is Mount Tomanivi. Mount Tomanivi is 4, 344 feet tall. The two main islands of Fiji are Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. The two main islands of Fiji, make up 87% of the population. One thing that I personally think is pretty odd, is that Fijians think it is very disrespectful and insulting to touch someone s head. You also must speak quietly, because when you talk loudly it is taken that you are angry. There are many different cultures, ethnics, and religions in Fiji. But, the main religion is Christian. • 5. Special Prison Populations Corrections are an important part of the criminal justice system and they work in concert with law enforcement and the courts. Citizens in the United States expect criminals to be monitored, with some in secured facilities, so they will not fear of becoming continual victim of crime. To illustrate this expectation further, there are 2.5 million individuals on probation or parole and 1 million individuals in jails or prisons (Morris Tonry, 2013, p. 370). However, does every individual confined in jails and prisons still need to be there or is there a better way to deal with certain special prisonpopulations? Due to the large number of prisoners within the correctional system, certain special populations of inmates do not receive the rehabilitation or care needed to successfully reintegrate back into society. Additionally, these special populations create an undue burden on the correctional system in terms of financial costs associated with their confinement. There are changes that can be made to the criminal justicesystem to accommodate special populations of inmates. This paper will explore the alternative... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, between 1994 and 1998, Texas saw an 86% increase in the elderly prison populations while California expects to see a 200% increase by 2020 (Rikard Rosenberg, 2013, p. 404). Elderly inmates require more medical care compared to the younger prisoners and special accommodations must be consider for older inmates (Rikard Rosenberg, 2013, p. ... There have been many blunders along the way with racism and incompetence. Is the American Dream truly attainable for everyone? Picture the 1940 s America. A tight knit Japanese American family living on the west coast, is going about their business, making a living and trying to achieve their version of the American Dream. While the parents are immigrants from Japan, the children were all born in the U.S. The parents and older children have jobs and work hard to afford a nice suburban life, while the younger children go to school to learn to be good citizens. They go about their business, never bothering anyone and have adapted to the American lifestyle. As they are working to achieve their dreams, the world and devastation of war cut their dreams short, forcing them into devastating conditions and choices no one should have to make. Families are split apart and the Japanese Americans are now looked at as the enemy. The attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese and the signing of the Executive Order 9066 sent over 100,000 Japanese Americans to internment camps, many times tragically changing their definition of America and the American Dream. She then goes on explaining the uniqueness of comedy, how it gave her father freedom and that their is no division of social status when it comes to comedy; comedy was and will always be true freedom. She informs the reader of several British comedians and comedy history, mentioning how they all had different styles. For example, one comedian would continuously make fun of himself, other would make fun of their culture, and social status. A major concern for many parents is the violence within television shows and movies, and the effect on children s aggression. I particularly do not believe that violence in television affects children s aggression, but who am I to say such a thing, for I am not a qualified psychologist. Cartoons play the majority of the role. They have been around for centuries. So why make such a big deal about them now? Are the cartoons in earlier years any different from newer cartoons? Yes I agree, but there is a purpose. The Monaco 2 newer cartoons attract the newer generation. If parents say that cartoons now are more violent than those of earlier years than why are there so many, and so many different ratings accompanied with the beginning of every show. What about Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck with Elmer Fudd, and how many fights and hunting scenes there was. What about Road Runner and how many times Wylie Coyote tried to kill him. All these cartoons amused many children in earlier years and present years. So why start complaining now? Can parents not control their children? Maybe parents should pay more close attention to what their children watch, instead of making excuses and blaming others for practically their own decisions. Because it was their decision to have children, right? Like all children s shows and movies, it let s the mind run free, and also let s the children be imaginative within their own realm of mind. So let s not take these away, and just try to limit what they watch. Let us rate these shows and movies. Oh yeah, the government did that. What I Would Never Have Believed That Concepts From Economics Prior to writing this, I would never have believed that concepts from economics would have fit into my decisions in course selections. But, now looking at the individual concepts and what they really entail, it makes perfect sense. As a sophomore picking out classes, I had free choice whether to enter the CP course, the Honors course or the AP course. The only reason why I was able to choose between these three courses was because of my grades. By using this concept, I determined that taking the AP course did benefit me more in the long run than taking the honors course. One of the major benefits that I looked at was whether taking this course would help benefit me in the long run. I used the concept of human capital , thinking that with this course and my other collective knowledge that I would gather from other classes, I was preparing myself to be a well rounded student and so possibly more successful in the future. In taking the AP course, I would learn a slightly different topic than the Honors or CP classes, and at a higher level of difficulty. I would definitely learn the topic and broaden my knowledge, but I would also learn more skills, like managing time wisely and different studying skills for a harder course. On the other hand, the costs of taking the AP course was like the concept of opportunity cost , the things I had to give up in order to take the course. • 21. Nigerian Diaspora And The African Diaspora I am a part of the Nigerian diaspora, one of the millions of Nigerians living in a foreign nation. I moved to the United States at the age of 8 and since then, the Nigerian culture I had known and brought with me has changed and adapted to the dominant culture of the USA. Many Nigerian families and communities abroad are faced with the same internal struggle of holding onto their traditional cultural values, while ensuring enough adaptation into the dominant culture. Due to the diversity of nations Nigerian migrants have settled in, the end result, a hyphenated Nigerian identity, differs greatly across continents and countries. Through the Frances L. Phillips scholarship, I would like the opportunity to explore the Nigerian diaspora communities in 6 different Western Europecountries and how these communities have shifted and adapted due to the dominant culture in the countries. I would like to explore the diaspora communities in in Italy, Ireland, The Netherlands, Austria, France and Belgium. These six countries are the top European destinations for Nigerian migrants, excluding the United Kingdom. While in these countries, I hope to discover the changes that have occurred to surface cultural attributes such as food, and attire. How have traditional Nigerian meals and dishes been recreated and fused with the popular staples/dishes of the particular country I am in? In spite of this, through pottery analysis, archaeologists are able to learn about different aspects of the site. Nonetheless, Caesarea Maritima has a variety of specific challenges associated with it for archaeologists. Not only does it cover a significant section of the coastal region, but the immense harbour, over time, has been completely submerged in the sea. Along with geographical challenges, there are also historical ones. The site of Caesarea Maritima was inhabited from Hellenistic time until the Crusaders, a period spanning over 900 years. At the site of Tell el Hesi, Petrie noticed specific styles of pottery at different stages of the dig (Petrie 1890). By a comparison of the different pottery forms with similar pieces dated from previous sites, Petrie was able to date the surrounding material through the pottery. Significantly, by studying the pottery forms, Petrie created an association between specific dates and forms of pottery (Petrie 1891) thus created a chronology which revolutionised the archaeology of the Levant. To give an illustration of the impact which Petrie s discovery has had upon archaeology in the Levant, his chronology has been used on archaeological sites in the region throughout the past century (Cole 1984; Tushingham 1986). In Caesarea Maritima Petrie s discovery of dating a site through the pottery has assisted with dating both the city and the harbour of Sebastos. In the harbour, the discovery of pottery was interpreted as evidence that the city was importing goods via sea trade, during the 3rd century AD (Hohlfelder 1988). While excavating Caesarea Maritima the Department of Antiquities in Israel discovered that an area they were excavating was abandoned during the Arab conquest (Yeivin 1955, p. 123). Yet, because there was evidence of pottery from the eighth and ninth centuries in addition to some lamps, it was evidence that after the site had been abandoned it was resettled. Because of the discovery of Mameluke pottery, it became apparent that the site was superceded during the Crusader period (Yeivin 1955, p. 123). • 32. Girl With Prayer Summary Explication of poem: Girl With Prayer The poem Girl With Prayer by Ruben Quesada illustrates a person that is in deep grief or perhaps traumatized by the accident which the speaker has witnessed when the narrator was a kid. As well, the speaker has vivid memories from the accident that currently is distressing the speaker. For instance, the speaker says; the same dream comes (2), which indicates the speaker or narrator is going through a hard time, perhaps when the speaker is sleeping and dreaming, the scenario of accident takes place as a memory and nightmare, which is affecting the speaker mentally and psychologically. As result, the narrator feels exhausted. Thus, the person narrating the poem feels trapped by girl s accident which disturbs the personal life of the narrator and recalling the accident appears to lead the speaker to feel exhausted. The author does provide a title to his poem; Girl With Prayer which involves religion and the girl is associated with it. After a runaway car has hit the girl, the girl s body is physically damaged; Her face bruised/arms blasted to bone (12 13). Therefore, the girl s body injured seems to trigger the speaker to fall on exhaustion (1). Besides, the speaker happens to be at the scene where the accident took place since the speaker s mother carried the girl, lay or put down the girl on the edge of the sidewalk. The narrator states then my mother helps her off the street/to the curb (13 14), where the girl finally passes away. The narrator lets the reader know the girl dies when; ...again, everything is silent (14) the silence implies something much worse has happened after the girl has been put aside. Afterwards, the narrator states slowly the Lord s Prayer ruptures her split lips (15), suggesting that the mother prayed for the deceased girl on the sidewalk. However, the focus is on the child that now seems to be a young adult that it is having personal issues. As when the speaker mentions, when I fall...from exhaustion (1), and the same dream comes (2), illustrates the speaker is going through tough time and having flashbacks from the girl s accident, when the speaker is sleeping and dreaming. Virgil wrote many poetics, but is probably most well known for writing the Aeneid, whose main character Dante probably used as the basis for Virgil in his Inferno. Aeneas is a strong, brave man who also serves as a source of comfort and familiarity to those around him. Virgil thus serves as both guide and the representation of human reason throughout Dante s journey in Hell. His influence cannot be understated as he is a mentor not only to Dante s character on his journey, but also to Dante the human being. Virgil is the embodiment of reason and logic in the Inferno. He achieves this quality through his meticulous and often graphic descriptions of the geography and meaning of each and every circle of Hell, and of the tortures that the sinners must endure. Although his descriptions contribute greatly to the allegorical meaning of the epic, Virgil himself is limited in his journey throughout the Inferno due to his lack of religious affiliation by age as he was born before Christ came to save the sins of man. Heathcliff was truly wronged as a child, which assists in his transformation into a revenge driven monster. Darcy, however, is the one who initiated the hatred between his adoptive brother. • 41. The Importance Of Beauty Adverts For Online Chinese... As a woman on Facebook, my daily news feed is peppered with a barrage of beauty advertisements. Ads for make up subscription boxes and diet teas wedge themselves between harrowing news stories and cat memes. They fill side bars with flashing promises to improve whatever it is that society says I need to improve, or reveal the next new thing to help me stay young, unique, and relevant. While most are simply irritating and easy to ignore, none have been quite as intriguing as the recent onslaught of ads for online Chinese clothing boutiques. These online stores, based in places like Hong Kong and Shanghai, should easily garner customers with images of beautiful, waif like models wearing gorgeous clothing that sells for a fraction of the... One reason such companies can so routinely take advantage of people using Facebook s infrastructure, they write, is that the social network s policing of users and advertisers is limited to what happens on the service its monitoring doesn t extend to bad experiences users have once an ad click takes them away from the site. In essence, Facebook absolves itself of any involvement while also giving the retailers the platform to advertise as unscrupulously and aggressively as they wish. It would appear that this unchecked partnership is the gateway for many risky clothing purchases, but Chinese boutiques have also followed a trend set by larger retailers to use bloggers instead of models to sell clothing. Beauty and fashion bloggers tend to review these retailers extremely favorably, usually after partnering with the retailers through so called blogger programs to receive free clothes in exchange for positive reviews and a flattering camera angle while they model their latest clothing haul (Porter). Popular bloggers wearing and promoting the hottest fashions can contribute greatly to increased desirability. According to Nia Porter, author of Racked article Are High Fashion Copies Actually Legal, bloggers with high social media influence (that is, bloggers with a larger than average following) that participate in blogger ... David s disappointment of his past, urges him to create a virtual world where he can express himself and live through artificial intelligence by personifying his desired life through his computer system. The vibrant story of Ada which is told from childhood to adulthood in David s house portrays as an outsider worldthat is very memorable, bright with some possible reservation yet full of curiosity and passion. The Unseen World themes are the mystery, heartbreak, and the lack of inhibition that is usually felt in the comfort of one s own home. The house in the novel represents the place of protection where... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When someone is isolated from the real world, they develop the impression that they are different from others. This situation often makes them adapt to any device as a companion, which as a result programs their mind to the only environment they expose. This occurrence often tends to create a virtual world for someone who constantly practices this life style. The concept of seclusion is worth taking into consideration because it helps to understand the parental influence on child behavior in the house. In regard to Ada in the novel, she was not socially involved because of the way David raised her. As the author, Liz Moore illustrates in the novel The Unseen World she could not get used to this fact about girls her own age: their volume, their exuberance, the outlandishness of their humor; the way they invented wild, improbable scenarios in their heads and then speculated about them. (P 209) She acquires her own thinking and moral values from the artificial intelligence Elixir, values that go beyond human thinking that usually come from traditions and ... • 43. Media s Influence On The Socialization Of A Child As media technology now offers various ways to access TV contents, such as on the Internet, cell phones and iPad, it leads children to spend more time watching animations and movies. According to a Kaiser family foundation study, 8 10 year old children expose average 7 hours 51 minutes to media in a typical day. 11 14 year old children and 15 18 year old children spend average 11 hours in a day. (Victoria et al.) Children thoroughly perceive and accept the concepts from media, so it is the powerful medium and cramming education method that control consciousness and create the imitation. Animations and movies, as the most accessible media, significantly have an effect on the process of socialization of children to form personality traits and the concept of the gender. Gender has been portraying stereotypically for a long period in the history of media. Media plays a very vital role in the socialization of a child or even adult, through different the storyline, characters and dramatization of different genders through different theme and portrayals. Traditionally, media have broadened the representation of male. In the presence of male and female characters in animated cartoons, 67.4% characters were male and only 32.6% were female. • 44. The Holocaust Holocaust When referring to the Holocaust defined by (Oxford Dictionary) as Destruction or slaughter on a mass scale, especially caused by fire or nuclear war: we have to take into account the global awareness and knowledge of that time. We, as a planet, have come to acknowledge the Holocaust not as the aforementioned and defined, but as the time in which, between 1939 and 1945, Nazi Germany, lead by Adolf Hitler, persecuted and massacred approximately six million Jews, as well as a plethora of other individuals, including the mentally handicapped, communists, poles, gypsies, homosexuals (just to name a few), as well as attempting to conquer the world. It is estimated that no less than ten million casualties were a result of the Nazi agenda, out of combat (The History Place). Giving reference to the question, in this essay I will outline and counterpoint two keys questions when regarding the approaches of functionalists and intenationalists, firmly rooting them as the crux as my debate, which are: Did Adolf Hitler have a so called master plan in bringing about the Holocaust, and where did the initiative come from? I will now proceed to open the debate, by first giving a brief outline as both approaches and what they encompass. Arguably the best Historian to define what exactly functionalism and intentionalism is as a concept relating to the Holocaust is that of the man who first used the terms functionalist and intentionalist ; Timothy Mason. In 1981, (Mason) wrote ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
