2. What Does God Mean To Me Essay
God is everywhere, God watches and cares for you and is something different to everyone. To
me, God is a higher power that is always there to comfort you and forgives you no matter what.
God watches over you, protects you, and cares for you. Whenever I am either confused or in
need of some advice, I know that God is always there to help me. Additionally, the images and
ideas that I have about God are that God is in everything. He is in the plants and nature s beauty,
and in dogs and other living things. I know I see God in things when I need the advice. For
example, when I have a hard day and I come home and my dog is excited to see me, I see that
God is watching out for me and wants me to realize that someone or something is always excited
to see me. It helps me see the glass half full instead of half empty. Lastly, some significant events
that have shaped my view of God and who he is to me are hiking and school. Whenever I go
hiking and see the beauty around me that God has created in this world, I change my view on
him and realize the beauty God creates. Additionally, when I go to school my image of God
changes too. In class, whenever other people bring up their perspectives of God and where they
see him, I think back to my image of God and how what someone said affects my image or changes
it. Overall, God is a provider and someone who watches over me through nature and other living
things. Additionally, throughout our world, there are many issues that the Catholic

3. Guilt In The Crucible
With the mistakes of humanity come both guilt and sins. In the story the crucible written by
Arthur Miller shows guilt can move people to make sacrifices. Guilt has the ability to drive people
to make dire choices. Many characters like reverend John Hale, and Reverend Parris felt this guilty
conscience, this remorse about what they had all done., especially John Proctorwho throughout the
story strives to exempt from his guilt and sins.
Reverend John Hale an overconfident straight lace man, was a scholar from Beverly. Hale comes
to Salem on Reverend Parris request to investigate supernatural causes for Betty Parris suspicious
illness and instigates the rumors of witchcraft. Hale approaches the situation precisely and
intellectual, believing that he can define the supernatural. Throughout the play he is in search of
the devil, and believes that he will find Satan and get rid of him. John Hale s personality changes
drastically toward the end of the story. He has changed from a very overconfident man in the
beginning of the play to a doubtful man, at the end of the play. He is doubtful ... Show more content

John lives in a house feeling empty and thinking his wife does not love him. Lust is a very
powerful feeling and it tempts John right into bed with Abigail. He commits adultery and
Elizabeth does not forgive him. John is repentful and guilty of the mistakes he has committed
and put himself at risk of condemnation in the strict Puritan society. At the end of the play, John
is faced with either confessing, and therefore sinning or to die a martyr. John says to Elizabeth
My honesty is broke, Elizabeth; I am no good man. Nothing s spoiled by giving them this lie that

6. The Effects Of Attending A Secondary School Essay
One incredibly important part of this particular study is that it does not provide any specific ways
in which these effects take place (Stearns, 2010). This mental development is too broad to point out
particular parts in the lives of student that will lead to this type of isolation. Instead, the study states
that the process of attending a secondary schoolwhere diversity is low (or accurate to the diversity
of the nation), will eventually lead the student to live in racial isolation. In one way this
vagueness is helpful. Scouring through the lives and decisions of a particular student is not as
necessary when it comes to predicting the possible demographics that they will live in for the
rest of their lives. Instead, we can look at the secondary school, as a whole, that they are a part of
to do the predicting for us, as well as show where a student will need to be given help if our
society wants to break social fragmentation and, in turn, help develop the social cohesion of our
nation. Finally, this research is valuable and the last on the list of main points because the study
shows that the Perpetuation Theory continues in a cycle. If a student goes to a school with low
diversity, it is likely that they will live in an area with similar demographics. Once that individual
has settled in that area, according to the theory, they will send their children to schools with similar
demographics as the school that they went to. Then, those children will live in neighborhoods

Good stress. Bad stress. The two are viewed as the Superman and Lex Luger archnemeses. Yet, is
good stress different from bad stress, and does each produce a different response in the human
body? Even doctors and psychologists take opposing views on the concept of good versus bad
stress. It is akin to the 1980s debate about good egg/bad egg as it pertained to cholesterol. That
debate still exists, as does the debate over how much stress, and what kind of stress is good or bad
for us.
One of the authoritative papers on stress, Physiology and Neurobiology of Stress and Adaptation:
Central Role of The Brain by Bruce S. McEwen, examines that question closely, and says that there
the two terms refer to the same physiological response, but that there are marked differences. In
other words, there is only stress, but short term responses can be adaptive, while prolonged
exposure or reaction to stress can be maladaptive and harmful.
He says that stress is a word used to describe challenges that are emotionally or

8. Why Is Tailgating Bad
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, rear end collisions/tailgating
incidents are approximately 23 percent of all car crashes, resulting in approximately 2,000 deaths
and 950,000 injuries. Seeing this stat it is not hard to see why tailgating is a very dangerous thing
while driving and needs to be eliminated. Tailgating although is not the only thing I don t like
seeing when I m conducting a car. While I m driving some of things that make me mad are when
people don t use turnsignals, people having their brights on while passing them, and tailgating.
Driving without turning your signals on really grinds my gears because of the following
reasons. One example is does not notify the person behind you. Driving behind someone ... Show

The first thing that is bad about this is that the insecurity of the driver who is being tailgated.
Driving while being tailgated might result in a driver swerving or doing something that could
result in something they don t want to do. The thought of being tailgated may result in some
things, one thing could be speeding because their mind might tell them that they are going under
the speed limit or not fast enough. Next, the increase of an accident goes up a major percentage
if someone is tailgating. There was a stat done by the Driving Association in California and they
tested the result in tailgating when it occurs and doesn t occur. The stat showed that if someone
would start to tailgate the chance of an accident would go up a whole 65% which is a major
increase. Lastly, the tailgator has a split second to respond if the driver in front of them has to
rapidly stop because of some reason. On a busy road, there are many things that could cause a
sudden stop like a ball rolling into a road or a child running into the road to get that ball, and the
time for the tailgator to respond is almost impossible to prevent a crash. Not even a sudden stop
can cause a crash but just a normal stop when the tailgator doesn t have full attention on driving.
Yes, it is evident that tailgating is bad, and we need to do everything we can to completely eliminate

Describe: (i) how induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are isolated (ii) how iPSCs can be used
to study human development (iii) how iPSCs can be used to model human disease and to develop
therapies for degenerative disease i)iPSCs are adult stem cells that have been genetically
reprogrammed to behave like the pluripotent stem cells found in embryos, i.e. can differentiate into
any cell type in the human body. This was first completed successfully in mice in 2006 by Shinya
Yamanaka and his team (Takahashi et al., 2006), then in humans in 2007 both by Yamanaka

964 965). ii)Human embryonic stem cells (ESCs) are pluripotent cells isolated from blastocysts,
and are highly useful in studying human development (Itzkovitz Eldor et al., 2000 p. 88).
Although the National Institute of Health states that it is not known if iPSCs and embryonic
stem cells differ in clinically significant ways , iPSCs are already being used to achieve the same
results as ESCs in some applications without the use of embryos, removing the ethical concern
associated with ESCs (National Institutes of Health, 2009). ESCs are capable of differentiating
into all cell types, and can be used as a source of differentiated cells. In the report by Itskovitz
Eldor et al., they discuss the induced differentiation of ESCs in suspension into embryoid bodies,
including the three embryonic germ layers. The authors state that the ability to induce formation of
human embryoid bodies that contain cells of neuronal, hematopoietic and cardiac origins will be
useful in studying early human embryonic development (Itzkovitz Eldor et al., 2000 p. 88). This is
invaluable in terms of studying the early stages of human foetal development. As iPSCs are better
understood, and the methods of generating them are refined, they have the potential to play an
increasingly integral role in our study of human development, in place of ESCs. In the report by
Itzkovitz Eldor et al. it is noted that the ability

11. Gilgamesh Is A Hero
Since long ago, people carried an image of what it means to be a hero. It is evident in some great
books one might even say. As in The Epic of Gilgamesh, Antigone, and The Iliad, heroism is
displayed and exalted, but what does being a hero mean? Overarchingly, in regards to these works,
the heroes earn their titles as heroes by notably doing what is right when the time is right, with
humane purpose, and an everlasting message. However, Gilgamesh, Antigone, and Akhilleus, being
different in their purposes, everlasting messages, type of heroism as whole, can not compare in
regards to heroic status.

At the end of the epic, after his epiphany, Gilgamesh returns to his kingdom, able to rule as a true
leader, respecting his people, and his people respecting him. Gilgamesh displays this growth at
the end of the Epic as he admires his city, Survey its foundations, examine the brickwork! , Did
the Seven Sages not lay its foundations? (Gilgamesh 11.324,236) This was his act of of good.
Realising what it takes to rule his kingdom, not like a tyrant, was what his message was. What truly
made Gilgamesh a hero was his transformation from being a tyrant to a good king. Gilgamesh lived
on through the foundations of his Kingdom, in a way, making him mortal. As people continue to
study the epic, one might even suggest Gilgamesh obtained immortality as being remembered a
hero.
Antigone too was a hero, however, in a different way. While displayed a message, she did good,
and had purpose, it was all slightly different than Gilgamesh. Antigone stood against the King,
Creon, her uncle, who ruled tyrannically. With this, her message shared some parallel to
Gilgamesh, suggesting that if a Tyrant is in power, change is needed. She criticized her uncle
for not being a king of the people, as he made it illegal to bury one of her brothers. Despite Creon
being king, she expressed, But he s no right to keep me from what s mine (Antigone line 60).
Antigone actively expresses that being a king does not give one absolute right over every person.

This is the real reason we have such an uneven distribution of wealth in this country. The positive
outcomes of the movement are that it increased the public s awareness about economic inequality.
(Occupy Wall Street Movement , 2012 ). It all started with a simple slogan We are the 99% that
will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%. (Kroll, 2011). This movement increased
awareness among the of the public and was a huge step forward for creating equality in the
America (Occupy Wall Street, 2012). This movement will also bring changes in the political
environment that will reduce corruption in US. Increase number of jobs programs, welfare
benefits, and rebuilding infrastructure would be the outcome of this movement (Occupy Wall

reduce the uneven wealth distribution in our country (Kroll, 2011). I believe that the moment will

aspect of the this movement was the fact that people now saw first hand that they had the power to

than life characters with extraordinary characteristics who defeat evil and represent good. On the
other hand, villains, seen as ravenous, heartless, beasts terrorize the helpless people for no reason
are not sympathized. Displaying this common outlook on the heroand villain is the epic poem,
Beowulf, where the readers view the main character, Beowulf, as a brave warrior who sets out to

a pointless, ridiculous monster crouched in the shadows and for that reason he attacks people out
of insecurity in an attempt to make himself feel more superior. On the other hand, Grendel
thoroughly covers his insecurities to all those who cannot understand his personal thoughts
because the readers of the epic poem Beowulf have little to no sympathy for him as they seem
him as a shadow stalker, stealthy, and swift instead of a hurt, rejected, and mentally ill individual

poem, Beowulf, the reader is not able to see his insecurity and brokenness.
In the end of both the poem and the novel, the reader witnesses the battle between Grendel and
Beowulf and as a result of the different point of views displayed by the authors the readers

A dominant problem in sport today is the use of performance enhancing drugs (doping). The
temptation of doping is high because athletes are constantly judged on their performance. However
drug testing is costly; per person, a drug test costs around $700. New Zealand athletes are often
missing out on dreams they have worked a lifetime to fulfill, because of world wide, performance
enhancing drug use. Drug testing has an exorbitant cost. New Zealand s expenditure alone in 2015
/16 amounted to $2.962 million. Are these tests even fair and worth the cost? Most athletes
consume some sort of dietary supplementthat has no evident effect on performance enhancement,
for example, a simple multivitamin can test positive in a drug test from being on the same

Zealand athletes had ingested at least 3 dietary supplements in the 6 months previous, a risk when

the book. He often takes advantage of Hassan s love for him and uses it to pressure him into

dirt if he told him to, and to confess that he finds teasing him to be something fascinating albeit
in a sick way (54), though he knows it to be cruel. His occasional antagonism towards Hassan
stems in part from his jealousy and his own feelings of inadequacy in regards to the love of his

traits that Amir lacks and that Baba admires. The fact that Amir does not stack up to Hassan in

this time. The amniote egg allowed further exploitation for certain tetrapods. It enabled ancestors

In societies across the world, religion has always had the ability to unite the people into
communities through its rituals and celebrations. Japanese society is a major example of how
people can join together as a community to celebrate their unique beliefs. However, this would then
often raise the question of which came first; the close knit community who started the religion, or
the religion that jumpstarted everything and brought people together. The truth of the matter is, if
one were to look at Japanese culture and society, it is rather apparent that ancient religions such as
Buddhism and Shintoform rituals and traditions which would then later shape the ceremonies that
the community partake in. These ceremonies are essentially festivals that villages put together to
show respect and acknowledgement for a certain religion or an important event. Festivals are done

the Gion Matsuri that are physical representation of this union. However, these religious festivals

21. The Importance Of Continence
Introduction
Throughout the history of religion, there have been men who have done remarkable deeds for
the world. For example, St. Augustine, accepted the calling of God to be his disciple, he left
everything to serve and live in Jesus Christ. He has wrote a prestigious work to his community to
correct their mistaken beliefs . His intelligence penetrates all areas, he could even penetrate very
deeply the of message of St. Paul in his letter to the Galatians 2.19 20.
In this essay, I will investigate the importance of continence, and the meaning of this in the
Christian point of view, and also how this served as the motivation for his writing.

For many decades until today, great errors on this subject have been related. To... Show more

Now, even though, it is not easy to fight against sin, we have the weapons of grace that Christ
gives us to overcome the hardships of sin. Then, this configuration makes us join to Christ deeply,
that we are no longer ones who act instead it is Christ who acts in us. Moreover, Augustine
believed that it is possible to recover by the way of the renunciation of the lust of the flesh. St
Augustine also understood the teachings of St. Paul when he said, I have been crucified with Christ
and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me Augustine considers that God waited for him to
renounce the pleasures of the flesh. The body becomes an obstacle in accessing God, because
nothing can be known of God through the senses of the flesh. On the other hand, Augustine knew
of his miseries, and that sins are the ways in which pleasure and evil are tied, but he knew nothing
of the joy that is produced by the renunciation that is proposed in the name of God. Therefore, he
became an instrument of Christ, and offered his sexuality in sacrifice.
The writing of St. Augustine on continence was directed not only against the negative opinions of
the Manicheans. We may have to understand that St. Augustine wrote about continence to correct
those heresies about sexuality, when he realized himself that he was wrong about those doctrines
that almost brought his soul to the abyss. He then

22. Circuit Analysis Using Kirchoff s Voltage Law, Kirchoff s...
Have you ever wondered how or what makes an electric circuit function? A fact that many people
don t realize is that almost every electric circuit can be analyzed with three very important laws.
Those laws are Kirchoff s Current Law, Kirchoff s Voltage Law, and Ohm s Law. With some
practice and the above stated laws in your tool bag, you can feel assured that you too can analyze
electric circuits with the best of them. However, before we get into the nitty gritty of defining and
using these laws, I recommend that you first connect to the links that offer a little historical
information about the two men that defined these fundamental laws for electric circuit analysis.

Using equipment of his own creation, Ohm determined that the current that flows through a wire
is proportional to its cross sectional area and inversely proportional to its length. Using the
results of his experiments, Georg Simon Ohm was able to define the fundamental relationship
between voltage, current, and resistance. These fundamental relationships are of such great
importance, that they represent the true beginning of electrical circuit analysis. Unfortunately,
when Ohm published his finding in 1827, his ideas were dismissed by his colleagues. Ohm was
forced to resign from his high school teaching position and he lived in poverty and shame.
However, his research efforts gained allot of support outside of Germany. In 1849, Georg Simon
Ohm was finally recognized for his efforts by being appointed as a professor at the University of
Munich. First Kirchoff s Current Law. Kirchoff s Current law can be stated in words as the sum of
all currents flowing into a node is zero. Or conversely, the sum of all currents leaving a node must
be zero. As the image below demonstrates, the sum of currents Ib, Ic, and Id, must equal the total
current in Ia. Current flows through wires much like water flows through pipes. If you have a
definite amount of water entering a closed pipe system, the amount of water that enters the system
must equal the amount of water that exists the system. The number of branching pipes does not

23. Hunger In The Hunger Game
In the novel Hunger Game, author Suzanne Collins narrates a girl name Katniss Everdeen who
voluntarily replaces her younger sister, Prime, to be one of the tribute to participate in the hunger
game. She is the family s backbone after her father died in a mining accident. The district only
gave them a small compensation but it s not enough to support her family s living. Soon, they run
out of money and suffer from hunger. They live in the District 12 where it s a poor and food
shortage region. People often suffer from hunger and Katniss is of no exception. In one section
of the story, Katniss could not trade old baby clothes for food or find food from trash bins. She
passes by a bakery one day and she is extremely hungry:
When I passed the baker s, the smell of fresh bread was so overwhelming I felt dizzy. The ovens
were in the back, and a golden glow spilled out the open kitchen door. I stood mesmerized by the
heart and the luscious scent until the rain interfered, running its icy fingers down my back, forcing
me back to life. (Collins 29)
Katniss is immersed in the smell of the aromas of bread, and although she is close to the bakery,
she is not able to eat the fresh bread. For her, the fresh bread will only be for viewing sensation
rather than tasting sensation, and I have a similar experience as Katniss who often suffer
hunger. As I read this section of Katniss, it reminds me that I was an acrobatic school in my 13
years old. Everyone attending the school had extraordinarily strict dietary restriction. Chocolates,
chips, breads, cookies are snacks that were prohibited. Rice and noodle were limited to only a
small amount for eating, because they are high carb and high starch food. We were only allowed
low calorie food to maintain our physiques even though we were extremely active and were
required to practice acrobatics on a regular basis. We didn t eat enough food before our physical
training, because we might vomit if we eat too much. Although these snacks were my favorite, I
could not eat them due to strict rules. I was only able to enjoy them through the senses of seeing
and smelling to satisfy my emotional need for these comfort foods. At the age of 17, six acrobatics,

the CSF characteristics of the HVS in order to embed the watermarking data on selected wavelet
coefficients of the input image. The selected coefficients dwell on the detail sub bands and the
information about the edges of the image were contained in them. Hence, the embedded
information becomes invisible by exploiting the HVS which was less sensitive to alterations on
high frequencies. The success of their method in terms of robustness and transparency was
illustrated by results of the experiments conducted. Their approach performed against the diverse
widespread signal processingmethods as compression, filtering, noise and cropping splendidly.

An adaptive image watermarking algorithm based on HMM in wavelet domain was presented by
Zhang Rong Yue et al. [27]. The algorithm considered both the energy correlation across the scale
and the different sub bands at the same level of the wavelet pyramid and employed a vector HMM
model. Intended for the HMM tree structure, they optimized an embedding strategy. They enhanced
the performance by employing the dynamical threshold schemes. The performance of the HMM
based watermarking algorithm against Stir mark attacks, such as JPEG compression, adding noise,
median cut and filter was radically enhanced.
A multi resolution watermarking method based on the discrete wavelet transform for copyright
protection of digital images was presented by Zolghadrasli and S. Rezazadeh [21]. The watermark
employed was a noise type Gaussian sequence. Watermark components were added to the
significant coefficients of each selected sub band by considering the human visual system in order
to embed the watermark robustly and imperceptibly. They enhanced the HVS model by performing
some small modifications. The extraction of the watermark involved the host image. They
measured the similarities of extracted watermarks using the Normalized Correlation Function. The
robustness of their method against wide variety of attacks was illustrated.

In the painting, a young, life sized woman is seen dressed in a very classy manner inside of a
bedroom in a palace. The top of her dress seems to be falling off of her breasts and shoulder a bit,
and her right leg is exposed. Sshe is bending backwards, and her facial expression seems to be
full of shock, disgust, anger, and fear, as if something horrific had just happened to her. Her
right arm is raised, almost as if she is surrendering and saying don t hurt me or I didn t ask for
this . In the lower left area of the portrait, there are two important items in which her face is
pointed towards: broken eggs on a silver platter and a dagger, which represent lost virginity and
self harm, respectively (DAI). The motion of the woman s body, her facial expression and clothes
she is wearing, and the iconographic items in the painting reveal that she is Lucretia, the woman
who was raped. According to the didactic, Lucretia was the wife of a Roman noble, and was raped
by Sextus, the son of Tarquin, who was the king of Rome. Tarquin s nephew, Brutus, led the
rebellion against the king, which eventually led to his banishment. After she was raped, Lucretia
told the incident to her brother and father and probably because of how guilty she felt stabbed
herself with the dagger that Sextus used to threaten her with. Interestingly, the dagger in the
painting is not bloody and Sextus is not present, although this appeared to have happened right after
the rape. Therefore, it makes sense

Even as a young child, I enjoyed the school environment; the safe space in which students can
participate, experiment, and grow both as learners and as people. The messages both implicit
and explicit often aligned with my values of the importance of obtaining knowledge, rational and
logical thought, and hard work. As I have grown older and even through my program at the
University of Wisconsin Madison, I am more aware of some of the inconsistencies inherent
between these values and our current public school system. As a smart, white, male student I had
a different experience than many. One of the reasons I want to teach is to spread my largely
positive and empowering experience of schooling to as many students as possible. I could not
count the number of times I have heard I m not a math person, I can t do math, I never understood
that, or similar comments that reveal negative associations with math in our culture. I have
observed and been shocked at how socially acceptable this viewpoint has become. For example, it
is almost unheard of for someone were to make a similar statement about reading or writing due to
feelings of embarrassment or shame. I have always held the view that math and mathematical
thinking are of paramount importance in modern society. However, as Schoenfeld (2001) argues,

is to everyday life. My goal is to bring this quantitative literacy into

28. Salt Pollution On Duckweed
Introduction:
Motivation:
Pollution of our environment is a big issue in today s world. I thought I would focus on one
aspect of this by looking at the effects of salt pollution on duckwed. Hopefully by finding out more
about our effects on the environment we can discover ways to preserve it.
Aim: To find out what effects growing in waters of different salinity will have on the growth of
duckweed.
Hypothesis: The duckweed will show a small growth increase with very low levels of salinity and
then will show a decline in growth rate as the levels of salinity increase.
Planned methodology: Collect a sample pool of duckweed, and measure out an equal amount into 5
different containers. Place an increasing amount of salt into the first 4 containers and no salt in the
5th container as a control. Monitor the growth of the duckweed for 2 weeks.
Methodology
В· Collect samples of duckweed.
В· Prepare 5 beakers with 500 ml of water each.
В· Count 5 duckweed fronds into each beaker.
В· Place 1ml of salt in the first beaker, 2ml in the second, 4 ml in the third, 8ml in the fourth and
none in the fifth.
В· Place each sample into it s own beaker of water and label them according to the amount of salt
in each. Label the beaker with no salt control
В· Place each beaker by a window where they will each get equal amounts of sunlight.
В· monitor the relative growth rate of each sample by measuring the size of each frond compared
to the beginning size. Measure once every two days.
В· Record your results.
Experiment 1
The original experiment was a failure, as the method of measuring duckweed by surface area was
inefficient and inaccurate. The minimum amount of salt (2.5ml) added to the samples, turned out
to be enough to kill all the duckweed, allowing no comparison to be made of the growth rate. In
the second attempt I will count out a smaller, but exact, number of duckweed fronds which will
make counting growth easier and more accurate. I will also use smaller amounts of salt (0.5 1.5 ml)
The duckweed was found to have a very slight growth rate increase with the addition of 1 ml of
salt, (confirming the statement in source 1) however when any more salt was added the duckweed
showed a decline in growth rate, culminating with the

but the movie was Hollywood washed out and was spoken in English for majority of the movie.
It was really hard to believe that these fluent Spanish speakers would rather speak English in a

it just by simply having Latino characters that also speak Spanish, it gives that authenticity and
also makes the setting seem more real. It is a lot better when Latinos play Latino roles because
representation matters, if we have Anglo Saxon actors play Latino roles this is going to suppress
many young Latinos self worth. The self worth goes down because when they see an actor with

JOHN COLTRANE S AND MILES DAVIS INFLUENCE ON JAZZ
Introduction
In the 1960s, numerous jazz musical performers, for example, Ornette, Sun, Mingus, and Dolphy,
extended the limits of their music in terms of organization, rhythm, congruity, beat, and
composition. They separated customary traditional methods and changed to newer techniques that
were not heard of before. They also improved the intensity and brought more prominent freedoms
concerning the length of time, substance, and structure of performances. The subsequent music was
given numerous names: free jazz, vanguard, the new thing. Avant Garde jazz was one of the result
of these diversification of jazz from the traditional forms with John Coltrane playing a major role
for its inception.
John Coltrane was an incomparable jazz artist of the late 20th century whose move from dedicated
traditionalist to drastic creator of new forms made him a prominent stylist in jazz (Deveaux
Giddins, n.d.). He was born in September 23, 1926 in Hamlet, North ... Show more content on

Also the representativeness is questioned because all crimes cannot be included in a questionnaire
as the researcher has to be selective, so as a result some people may have committed a crime, but
they can neither report it because of fear of being fined or put in jail nor because it is not included
in the questionnaire. This means that the number of crimes in statistics will be decreased, however
it will not represent the reality. In addition to this problem, mainly the youth are questioned as the
BCS 2007 states that most of the crimes are committed by males aged from 15 to 25 and by
females aged from 13 to 19 in England and Wales, therefore the rest of the population is not
included and the concept of white collar crime is created, which is middle classed people not
admitting their crimes, therefore this information cannot be generalized among the population.
As separate pieces of the research, all of the methods have their own advantages, however there are
mainly disadvantages that make all of them either invalid or unreliable and nor representative.
However if all these methods were combined into one a mixed method research, all the qualities of
the researches could have gone up, therefore it could have been even more useful to sociologists.

It was in 1884 that George Russell first started taking an interest in the mystical world and the

questionnaire items often represent the least common denominator in assessing people s attitudes,

Snyder s arguments against the use of laptops in classrooms are convincing, but he lacks evidence

One way Snyder does not use logical reasoning is the fact that he uses emotionally charged
words. Snyder uses a variety of emotionally charged words in his article, both positive and
negative. The positively charged words help sway the reader towards his point of view, while the
negatively charged words puts a negative connotation towards the opposing point of view. Snyder
states, Meanwhile, we are losing a long tradition of people learning from other people (166).
Traditions are very special and are passed down generations. Losing these traditions is very
disheartening. Therefore, the use of the word losing has a very negative emotional effect on a
reader s attitudes towards the possible loss of learning happening with laptops present. Another
element of logical reasoning is making hasty generalizations. Snyder states, I would not have the

not giving thought that even without computers, other factors may play a role in attention loss.

measurement system strongly affects the behavior of managers and employees. Hence, after a year
long research with many companies, they devised the Balance Scorecard (BSC) measure which
revolutionized the traditional thinking about performance measures. By looking beyond the
traditional financial performance measures, the managers were able to better understand the
strategy, positioning and performance of their company. The underlying reason behind getting this
comprehensive view of the business was BSC approach focused on predicting future... Show more

41. Lather And Nothing Else Symbolism
Lather and Nothing Else, a story that takes place in South America around the time of the early
1900 s. The atmosphere that revolves around the story consists of suspense, worry, and tension;
keeping the reader intrigued. By using first person point of view, the reader doesn t know the
thoughts of the enemy (Torres). Yet the author s use of symbolism, irony, and first person point
of view is very effective. It allows the reader to establish a deeper emotional connection to the
scenario being put forth in front of them and increasing the level of tension throughout the story.
The perspective of Lather and Nothing Else is in first person. The author s decision to write the
piece in this perspective is very effective because it has the ability to show the in depth emotions,
thoughts, and personality of the town barber. The reader can view the character in all directions,
gaining empathy and sympathy for him. Also, it gives the reader great insight into the conflict of
the story (the dilemma inside of the barber s head) and let us see all the things the barber must
consider in order to make his decision of remaining a barber, or becoming a murderer.... Show more

been the difference between life and death in terms of Torres life. The barber could have

were shut and wouldn t have seen it coming. ...With his eyes shut he would not even see the shine
of the razor or the gleam in my eye. Also, the razor represents choices and freedoms. Torres is a
murderer, executioner, terrorist, and the barber is curious as to if he could end the torture and pain
he is putting his town through. The razor symbolizes the thin line between hero or murderer and

42. Berkshire Hathaway Analysis Essay
Warren Buffett is a legendary investor who now sits at the CEO position as well as Chairman
and President of the multibillion dollar corporation known as Berkshire Hathaway. For
convenience I will refer to Berkshire Hathaway as BH. BH is a conglomerate holding company
which means that they specialize in investing across several different industries. Yahoo! Finance
defines BH to be in the financial sector and their primary industry as Property and Casualty
Insurance. Some of the other companies that BH owns and manages are GEICO Insurance,
Helzberg Diamonds, Benjamin Moore Co., and Dairy Queen. BH also owns large portions of stock
in Heinz and Mars Incorporated. Due to the present day s stock marketvolatility there would be...

When customers pay a premium on their insurance, BH then takes that premium paid and uses it
to buy stakes in other companies. Which is how Berkshire Hathaway has been able to buy
stakes in so many companies and essentially as well as metaphorically spin their straw into gold.
For the more technical stock picker, it is a good thing to know that BH has had a steady
appreciation over the years with the exception of 2008; being the largest decline known for BH.
The good news is that unlike a lot of companies that suffered from the 2008 crisis BH came out
of it head strong and has surpassed the previous price at which the decline began. These stocks
are the type that long term investors like. This is because they can survive crises such as the one
six years ago. Moreover the long term investor is good for a company because usually these
investors are the ones attending board meetings and placing votes that best further the company s
success. In contrast there is the short term investor who, most of the time, only cares about a
profit and lacks the interest in the long term life of the company. This is not the case for BH,
however. If an investor wants secure long term gains than BH is certainly the best choice. If
someone begs to differ just take a look at some of the key statistics. Looking at the statistics of a
company is what nearly every professional investor does. You

43. Death In Kurt Vonnegut s A Tale Of Two Cities
Death can be seen all throughout life, and all deaths can be for different reasons, whether those
reasons be noble, villainous, or, in most cases, simply neither. Throughout both A Tale of Two
Cities, written by Charles Dickens, and Slaughterhouse Five, written by Kurt Vonnegut, death can
be seen as a common topic betwixt both novels at one point or another, albeit each topic of death
can be very different at times. Charles Dickensis a beloved author, responsible for many classic
works such as A Tale of Two Cities
. He was born February 7, 1812, in Portsmouth, England. He
was the second oldest child of eight total, living most of his early life in Chatham, Kent, and
Camden Town. When Dickens was 12 years old, his father, John Dickens, was... Show more content

In Slaughterhouse Five, death is taken in a light manner, and is seen by the main protagonist, Billy
Pilgrim, shows death throughout his experiences in the book as an impermanent and weightless
event, which is the complete opposite of how Dickens portrays death. Throughout Slaughterhouse
Five, Vonnegut places the words So it goes. after every death, or multiple deaths seen at roughly the
same time, eventually explaining this phrase as something the Tralfamadorians say after somebody
because everyone is alive forever, even if at different times, so therefore death is meaningless in the
eyes of those in Slaughterhouse Five. The message about death that Slaughterhouse Five attempts
to bring is far different than the message A Tale of Two Cities attempts to bring. While
Slaughterhouse Five tries to tell us that death is meaningless and holds no weight, A Tale of Two
Cities tries to tell us that death holds a lot of weight in the world, and that in some cases can be the
most meaningful thing in the world. Vonnegut throughout his book takes a tone that is aloof or
uncaring when it comes to death, a tone that tells us that he thinks death is meaningless, or
weightless, whereas we can see that Dickens takes a more serious tone when it comes to death,
showing that he has a deep respect for meaningful death, albeit when when he thinks that there is a
pointless death, his tone changes to one of frustration or chastising. Vonnegut, on the other hand,
keeps the same tone about death throughout the entire book, never changing his tone when an
important death happens, or when a meaningful death occurs, but always keeps the same tone that
says that he believes death holds no weight, in complete contrast to Dickens, who, no matter the
circumstance, whether the death is important or meaningless, always seems to keep some level of
respect for death in the way he talks about it.

44. Representative Democracy Essay
The political system I would use for Viva la Vida Islands, is the Representative Democracy. I
think it s better to have citizens vote on representatives to represent them, rather than gathering
everybody to vote on one law. It would be extremely difficult to gather people to have them vote.
It s easier to have citizens vote for a leader that has a voice for them and that they trust. Using this
system would be easier and fairer making everyone have a voice in one way or another.
It s certainly better than a communism or a dictatorship. I chose this route since, I disagree with
communism. I don t believe that everybody should have the same pay as each other. It s certainly
unfair for a McDonalds worker to earn the same pay as a builder. I believe the harder you work,
the more pay you should earn! I also, don t think it s right how the government chooses your job
and makes your life decisions. The government shouldn t be that nosey and plan your life out. I
also, don t think a dictatorship is right. It s not an ideally fair system and it s ruled over by one
person! Citizens don t have a voice and I don t think it s fair. Dictatorships always fail anyways

46. Similarities Between Tiananmen Square And Fahrenheit 451
Martin Luther King Jr. once said that Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things
that matter. Such a thought is common among people that want to spark change. To keep
themselves alive, they rebel. Silence is the equivalent of death. It is death to hope for a better future.
In China, many students shared this common idea. Beginning in the spring of 1989, Beijing s
students gathered in a famous square known as Tiananmen Square. They were protesting their
communist government. There was unemployment, inflation, corruption of the government, and
restrictions on the future of the students. They wished for a life of democracy where they could
have a dialogue with the government. They refused to let silence kill them. Millions of students
gathered, protested, paraded, held meetings, staged sit ins, and hunger strikes. At first, the
government let the protests continue. When it was out of control, the students were pushed to
leave. When the students refused, chaos broke loose. Many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

crackdown on the student demonstrators and the clearance of Tiananmen Square on the grounds
that a counter revolutionary riot was fermenting and continued instability would retard economic
reform (Tiananmen Square Incident: Cold War). This shows that after being advised to halt the
rebellion, consequences ensued. The reasoning behind the consequence was that this demonstration
caused instability even though part of the protest was requesting government stability. It is clear
that in the rebellion of Tiananmen Square, protesters were given a chance to clear away before

47. Comparing Emerson s Writings with Whitman s Writings
Emerson and Whitman
A commonality when comparing Emerson s writings with Whitman s writings are the use of the
ideas Emerson came up with integrated and used in Whitman s writing. It is clear that Emerson s
writing were a set of instructions for the Transcendentalist movement in addition to a lifestyle to
try and attain or rise up to for society. Emerson give guidelines and ideas on how people should
function in society largely based off of nature and its natural occurrence and set order. When
Whitman starts writing, he adopts Emerson s guidelines in order to become a great poet. In
Transcendentalism, one of the commonalities in the writing is the idea of nature as a beneficial
part of the world. The natural world to be precise is an underused and not understood piece of
the world. Emerson and Whitman both saw nature as a beneficial topic to study in their
writings. Emerson and Whitman both studied and reflected upon nature in order to understand
lessons or basic guidelines that it could teach them about being human. In Self Reliance and
Song of Myself, it can be seen that if you are willing to study nature and gain the knowledge it
gives you to live your life lessons can be gained. Nature is not simply pretty scenery to look at
but if studied deeper it promotes a lifestyle. Particularly, for Emerson, nature is seen as perfect
because it is not tainted by the constructs or failures of man it is simply natural and untouched. In
addition, man s law has no power over

In Descartes book, Meditations on First Philosophy, he explains the skeptical arguments of how
he view doubt. Descartes doubt comes in three waves, which makes it easy for him to determine
what he can doubt but difficult to restore faith back into his senses reliability. The first wave of
doubt is dreaming, in which he argues that all of the particulars are merely illusions. The second
wave of doubt is the simplest facts remaining real. Descartes knows that there are things that will
always just be true forever and that they are simplest facts, like geometry, and things that may
contain more complexity, like physics. The third wave of doubt is the deceiving deity, in which a

Violence in The Arts В– Plato vs. Aristotle
Nowadays, it is hard to turn on a television program, catch a movie or buy your younger sibling a

exposed to violence on the screen, whether it is in the latest Sopranos episode or even watching
the six o clock news. For quite a while now, people have been demanding that stricter censorship
be placed on the media, especially those programs and video games that can easily be obtained by
the youth, due to their feelings that this violence can influence people to act out . However, this is
not a new idea. Back in ancient Greece, the philosopher Plato believed that exposure to the

Plato perceived the dramas as dangerous, because he felt that they created confusion,
miscommunication and ignorance. He also felt that the entire world s evils came from a defective
sense of reality and that these dramas promoted that. For example, take a young child who grew up
somewhat isolated from the outside world and whose only outlet to our society is through the
media. His steady contact with violent programs (which in the end, show a happy conclusion no
matter what happens throughout) may convince him that this type of behavior is normal and
accepted. Plato was concerned especially about the influence that drama and even pornography
would have on children, because he felt that their minds were not developed to the full extent in
order to differentiate between the right and wrong that they see in the dramas. Many people will
be quick to agree that a child should not watch a rated R action movie, yet they still allow them to
view a Saturday morning cartoon in which the main character gets run over every episode and still
comes back the next week. This can create a faulty understanding of reality to a child, as well as an
unsuspecting adult, because it does not clarify that death is final.

they encouraging one to participate in
