Civic Duty
Duty comes from the Old French word Duete originating in the late 1250 s to early 1300 s, a
past participle of the Latin word Devoir . In which both of these word s meaning to have an
obligation or commitment resulting in action of oneself due to moral commitment. An early
philosopher by the name of Marcus Tullius Cicero said Duty is a result of being a human, is a
result of one s particular place in life, is a result in one character, and also a result of one s own
moral expectations. Many people even believe in a Civic Duty that is one being responsible
enough to obey the law, pay taxes and serve on a jury, These are just a few of many Civic Duties
people acknowledge in our society today. The Army has even accepted its own meaning... Show

Article eighty seven of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) states missing movement
as the following Any person subject to this chapter who through neglect or design misses the
movement of a ship, aircraft, or unit with which he is required in the course of duty to move
shall be punished as a court martial may direct. In the case of general court martials not only do
they have the ability to reduce the accused grade to Private (E 1) but, they also have the ability
to imprison or discharge the solider. In the case of a dishonorable discharge you lose all benefits
and entitlements you previously worked so hard to achieve. This can also be put under Article
92 within the UCMJ which has three way for the offense to be committed, the offenses are as
followed. Offense one: violates or fails to obey any lawful general order or regulation. Offense
two: having knowledge of any other lawful order issued by a member of the armed forces, which
it is his duty to obey, fails to obey the order; or. Finally offense three: is derelict in the
performance of his duties; shall be punished as a court martial may direct. This offense in the
UCMJ is also not taken lightly, as it can result in dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of pay and
allowances, as well and two years of confinement with in a prison. Even if convicted

Essay On Detective Fiction
Why we should read detective fiction.
We spend large parts of our lives in books about fiction. Not only in books but also through
television shows and films. Many people wonder if it is positive or negative to read Fiction?
Society is changing and is today surrounded by digital media that govern society. When society
changes, it may in some cases be enjoyable to escape from reality and this by reading detective
fiction.
Britannica.com (Search word, Fiction history ,2017) explains that detective and crime related
stories are one of the most popular genres of fiction. The authors are many who have found
inspiration from the well known authors Edgar Allan Poe and Conan Doyle. What characterizes
detective fiction is that a crime is introduced and investigated and the culprit is revealed. Once a
murder has been committed, the books separating broadly from one another, creating a unique
atmosphere, simultaneously as it brings excitement and stimulate thinking and imagination. What
makes many read detective fiction is that they create excitement while we get ... Show more content

Jonathan Gottschall article Why fiction is good for you (Bostonglobe 2012/04/28) clarifies that
the books can give a person a new perception of reality. Fiction becomes like their fantasy world,
as they can disappear when something in life is hard. In addition, the books can make people
believe, that there are others living in the same situation as them. It also allows you to go on
adventures in your mind. You are becoming one with the character, and in fiction like the murder
of the orientexpress , it feels as if you are involved in the murder, that you are one of all the train
travelers questioned by the detective Poirot. When the end comes with the book, it will be an end
to one time friendship. The characters have become friends of you and now they are gone. Which
in turn inspires you to read more fiction, and tie new

Drug Legalization Essay
If drugs would to be legalized, there will have to be new set of laws to be follow. The major
problem with our society as in now, is the spending in drug wars. According to Gary E. Johnson
in The Case for Drug Legalization states how ...We are spending $150 billion a year to combat
drugs. This also includes spending in such as courts, jails , and police. But we should also
consider, if drugs were to be legalized, It ll be easier for the government to control and they will
be able to tax the usage of drugs. Especially, the legalization of drugs will help spend money on
other things such as education, public schools, emergency services and will save a lot of finance
instead of spending on tracking down druglords. Nowadays drugs are being sold nationwide
through black marketing and a lot of people could get hands on , which cause competition
between others drug lords, cartels and violence is erupted. I believe if drugs were to be legalized ,
it would tremendously drop crime, murder, addiction to certain drugs, and the government would
regulate and tax drugs.
Second of all, the black market has been going for a while and it s used to sell illegal goods as a
underground economy, and many people buy drugs that aren t legal. This market gets by not
being taxed all and many people can get hands on drugs that can really be deleterious to
themselves and other people around them. If we would to legalize drugs , the black market
would drop business and the government would be able to track down who buys the drugs by
having only stores that sell least harmful drugs such as marijuana. For most, not all drugs should
be legalized because of the dangerous usage of drugs to the body especially if it s a first time
taking in drugs. According to the article Addiction Center.com explains that Over 90% of those
with an addiction began drinking, smoking or using illicit drugs before the age of 18. Even though
with laws that enforce illegal drug usage, many people take advantage of it because it s not easily
to be find so they become addicted to small drugs and eventually build up to using stronger drugs
such as Psychedelic Mushrooms,Opium,Lsd,Methamphetamine, and etc. If the black market
business would be to decline

Women In Advertising
Jean Kilbourne (2010) in the video Killing Us Softly 4: Advertising s image of women pointed
out that people always assume the women in advertisements have the perfect look and a good
figure. Many women even feel ashamed when they failed to achieve ideal beauty and retain slim
figure after they saw the advertisements. I agree with her idea that the advertisement depict women
in a very dangerous way. Many people started to judge women by perfect look and slim figure.
These kinds of advertisements may do harm to women s healthmentally and physically, especially
to teenagers, when they are trying to achieve perfect appearance as perfect women depicted in
advertisements.
Everyone cares about how he or she look and wants to have a good figure. Today, a good
appearance can even leave a good impression to other people. However, nobody is perfect. I think
nobody has a perfect face and retain flawless forever. The perfect women in advertisements and
magazines have good make up that make them look flawless and slim. Some pictures were
photoshoped to show the audience how good their products work. Like Jean Kilbourne (2010) said
in the video Killing Us Softly 4: Advertising s image of women that the supermodel Cindy Crawford
once said I wish I looked like Cindy Crawford. Thus, even the supermodels and actress do not
believe in their pictures and advertisements. They know they are not as perfect as what is depicting
in the advertisement. They also pursue the ideal beauty and wish to

Banco International, Inc. v. Goody s Family Clothing
United States District Court, Northern Division 54 F.2d 765
In the case of Banco v. Goody s, the courts ruled that Goody s was not wrong for canceling the
contract due to the finding of justified in reasonably concluding that Banco could not deliver the
product by the date set in the first purchase order between the parties and the failure to deliver the
goods by that date would have substantially impaired the value of those goods to Goody s. Goody

The contract was for a total of 62,748 jogging suits that would be custom made for girls and boys.
The total contract price was for $ 749,103.60 that included the shipping of the merchandise, which
would be shipped within six purchase orders. On or about August 29, 1994 they (Goody s)
terminated their contract in writing, which validates a right to cancel. The parties agreed to amend
the first shipment date, Goody s deny that all other shipment dates were to be amended as well.
Goody s feel that there was any wrongful, unlawful, or without good cause or justification eras on
their behalf. Was there a retraction of any Anticipatory Repudiationwhen Banco gave Goody s
assurance shortly after Goody s cancelled the contract? Did Goody s have a justifiable reason to
cancel the entire contract with Banco? The UCC permits the breaching party (subject to some
limitations) to retract his or her repudiation. This can be done by any method that clearly indicates
the party s intent to perform. Once retraction is made, the rights of the repudiating party under the
contract are reinstated. The breaching party cannot retract the repudiation. However, if since the
time of the repudiation the other party has canceled or materially changed position or otherwise
indicated that the repudiation is final. [UCC 2 611, 2A 403] According to the UCC §§ 2

What Are The Arguments Against Pro Life Defense
Gillian Torchia
Mr. Lowry
English9h 6
7 February 2016 Defense for the Defenseless In 2008 there were 1.21 million abortions performed
in the United States. That is three thousand three hundred and twenty two abortions performed each
day (Guttmacher Institute). The topic of abortion has been a heavily talked about topic for the past
few years. There are two sides of the issue, pro life, which is against abortion and pro choice, which
is for abortion. Abortion should not be legal because it is a scientific procedure, it is currently
supported by law, and deprives fetuses of a future like ours. One of the main arguments against the
pro life movement is that the fetuses that are being removed are not humans and therefore do not
have basic rights. When human sperm penetrates a human ovum, a zygote is formed. A zygote is
undeniably human because it composed of human DNA that is unique from both the mother s and
the father s individual DNA. From this, it can be concluded that abortion operations affect more
than just the mother and her rights, it now includes the rights of the fetus. Also, the human zygote
fulfills the scientific definition of an organism. The human embryo is a complex structure of
independent elements designed to carry on the activities of life by separately functioning but
mutually dependent organs. The human zygote also fulfills the four main categories of biological
life: growth, reproduction, reaction to stimuli, and metabolism. Reaction to stimuli

Difference Between Sports And Sports Tourism
One of the coolest, yet most infuriating parts about the English language is that there are multiple
words that have very similar, yet different, meanings. Leisure, play, recreation, and sport and
tourism can be related to each other and used to describe each other. Often time s people consider
sport tourism, recreation, and play as a leisureactivity. On the other hand, recreation does not
necessarily always refer to a leisure activity. The definition and classification of each activity into
these categories can change with time. As time goes on and the world becomes for technology
advanced, people find new activities to participate in. An activity that one person might consider
leisure, another person could consider work, and therefore it... Show more content on

According to an article written by the Association Internationale de la Presse Sportive in 2010,
sport tourism is worth $600 billion a year (Sport Tourism at, 2010). Definitions.net defines sport
tourisim as travel which involves either observing or participating in a sport event stay apart
from their usual environment (Translations for Sport Tourism, 2018). I believe sport tourism is a
very large sector of the global travel industry today. People are constantly traveling to watch
their favorite team compete in an opponent s stadium or travel to compete in their own activities.
People love to travel and experience new places. When combining sports with travel, it is the
best of both worlds. Escaping from your usual environment and experiencing something new and
challenging is one of the reasons why people enjoy to travel. I personally know multiple people
who travel to different cities to watch a sports team or to participate in some kind of racing event.
Sport tourism, to me, is considered leisure time. I personally enjoy traveling to other cities/states
to watch my favorite team play. One of my favorite experiences was traveling to Orland, Florida,
to watch the University of Memphis play in the conference championship football game. I believe
sport tourism is an industry that is going to be around for a while and continue to

The Charge Of The Light Brigade Figurative Language
The Charge of the Light Brigade , tells a story of the devoted actions of the soldiers in The Battle
of Balaclava . The Battle of Balaclava was fought by the Russian Empire against Britain, France,
the Kingdom of Sardinia, and the Ottoman Empire. It emphasizes the bravery of the horseman,
the use of language by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, and the dedication/loyalty of the soldiers. The
poem emphasizes the bravery of the horseman. Tennyson wrote, Their not to make reply/ Theirs
not to reason why/ Their but to do and die/ Into the valley of Death/ Rode the six (Tennyson 93).
The soldiers still charged forward to fight, knowing that they could die. Russell wrote, At the
distance of 1200 yards the whole line of the enemy belched forth, from thirty iron mouths, a flood
of smoke and flame, through which hissed the deadly balls (Russell 89). Even though the soldiers

people would need the money. He had bank accounts in several banks around the world. His

Introduction
This experiment was about identifying the unknown microorganism given by the instructor. This
exercise is important to understand and apply all previous laboratory practices, as well as those
learned in our first unknown exercise, for identifying the given unknown organism. With the
knowledge and practice of performing biochemical and physiological identifying tests, I was able to
determine the unknown bacteria. For this experiment, I was given Unknown #12 and used a series
of tests to determine the specimen, further explained in this report.
Materials and Methods
For the Gram stain, I used a microscope slide, wash bottle of water, clothespin, and the reagents
crystal violet, Gram s iodine, ethyl alcohol, and safranin to observe whether the organism was
Gram negative or positve. The method was placing and heat fixing a loopful of the unknown
organism on the slide. The organisms were then stained with crystal violet for a minute, rinsed
off, flooded with iodine for a minute, rinsed off, decolorized with alcohol for 30 seconds, and
then finally stained with the counter stain, safranin, for a minute. I streaked the unknown onto a
TSA plate and incubated at 35 C. With a pure colony, we performed a second gram stain
procedure and inoculated it into a TSA slant. I used BCP Lactose broth and a loop to perform a
BCP Lactose test. The broth was inoculated with a loopful of the unknown and incubated

Water Fashion Essay
Water Fashion In this day and age, the metaphorical pastor of American culture no longer preaches
patience. This is due, in part, to our rapid economic development, boosting the U.S. into the fifth
stage of Rostow s model for economic development; the Age of Mass Consumption (this model
entails that a country begins in poverty, introduces varying levels of industry, becomes
economically self sufficient, and, in the final stage, outsources all industry to developing countries).
The Age of Mass Consumption is just as deadly as it sounds, incurring insatiable demand for cheap
labor, and therefore a wasteful popular mindset. And so ensues consumerism, the love child of
social media and cheap manufacturing. Consumerism bears it s own dangerous children, including
but not limited to genetically modified organisms, pesticides, Costco, smartphones, wireless
Internet, Netflix, and fast fashion. The vast majority of Americans will recognize the
aforementioned phenomenon of pop culture, except perhaps fast fashion . For those unfamiliar

Introduction Paragraph...
Is a polar bear one of the eight species? A polar bear is a one of the eight species. Scientists believe
that the polar bear began over 200,000 years ago. They came from the brown bears ancestors. Most
experts think that polar bears are the longest bears. Males measure over 10 feet long, when standing
on their hind legs, other bear not so much. Brown bears and polar bear are the largest and are both
land carnivores. Polar bears are one of the worlds largest world predictors.
2.) Polar bears don t hibernate! Polar bears don t hibernate, expect if it is a pregnant female that

pregnant female s activity level decreases, she gives birth and nurses her cubs. When the
weather conditions are rough, they might stay in longer. Polar bears are evolved to live in cold
climates unlike brown bears 3.) Is a Polar Bear s fur really white? A polar bears fur isn t white, it
just looks white. There fur is actually clear, hollow tubes filled with air. An outer coat of long
guard hair that sticks together when wet protects a dense, thick under coat. When a polar bear

The Battle over Safe Injection Sites
Insite: The Battle over Supervised Injection Sites
In the 1990 s there was an epidemic of HIV outbreaks in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver.
Injection drug users were found to be the leading cause of this, and a public health emergency was
declared (Fafard, 2012). The mortality and morbidity resulting from this increasing injection drug
use became a major political issue. This resulted in the adoption of harm reduction by the
government as one of their four pillars of their drug strategy (Fafard, 2012). Harm reduction is a
set of practical strategies and ideas aimed at reducing negative consequences associated with drug
use (Boyd, 2013). In September 2003 Insite, North Americas first harm reduction supervised

There was also no increase of users relapsing into injection drug use, nor did it negatively influence
those seeking to stop drug use (Kerr et al., 2006). The research shows that Insite has not promoted
increased illicit drug injection, but rather it has attracted individuals with histories of injection drug
use.
Another claim put forth by the Conservatives is that SISs are harmful to communities. They
believe SISs create public nuisances, and threaten public safety (Broadhead, Kerr amp; Alice,
2002). Research on the other hand argues that SISs can address issues related to public. Since
Insite opened the public has noticed less public injections, less syringe droppage, and less
complaints about drug user nuisances (Potier et al., 2014). It also cleans up public environment
such as streets and alleyways. Drug use is still an illicit activity and it takes place in unsterile
environments such as behind dumpsters and shooting galleries. SISs provide sterile environments
for users and are a lot safer than shooting up in the streets. This leads to less public injection and a
better community environment (Potier et al., 2014). Local police data was also evaluated and
there has been no increase in crime, violence, or drug trafficking around Insite. There were no
significant statistical changes in rates of drug trafficking. There were 124 incidents in the year
before and 116 incidents after. There were 147

Florence Kelley Rhetorical Analysis
Improving undesirable working conditions for women and eliminating child labor was an
impassioned issue for female reformers during the time of industrialization in the United States.
Florence Kelley, a united states social worker and reformer, opposes the appalling work
environment children as young as six would toil through and relays her speech to the National
WomanSuffrageAssociation to propel her audience to demand changes that are necessary to stop
countless hours of hard work the youth struggle to complete. Kelley adopts a fervid tone in order to
convince the audience that political action is needed to adjust the laws that allows child labor to

Kelley questions if the enfranchisement of women would ve led to the Georgia Legislature
refusing at every session for the last three years to stop the work in the mills of children under
twelve years of age (lines 56 58). This rhetorical question is aimed at the men who continuously
vote to allow twelve year old s and under to work in mills which were known for its horrendous
working conditions and lack of safety. Therefore, she presumes that mothers and teachers are
the ones who would repeal the law in favor for their children; The men are not standing up for
the rights of the youth. She proves her purpose by establishing that men should reflect on
whether they had a role in allowing child labor to fester for years and taking advantage of people
who cannot speak up for themselves. Kelley continues her questioning by asking if the New
Jersey Legislature would ve stopped the shameful repeal bill enabling girls of fourteen years to
work all night if mothers had the right to vote (lines 59 61). The author theorizes from the trends
shown in the Georgia and New Jersey legislature that suffrage for would cause a major reorder of
legislations that would pass. Using diction choice of shameful emphasizes the guilt she wants men
to discern from the multiple cases illustrating the growing injustices of child labor

Basketball in NS Essay
Basketball was first introduced to Nova Scotia as early as 1895 but in the past thirty years the
popularity of the sport has really taken off. The high concentration of universities in the province,
the tradition and esteem of the high school programs, and the continued support from a large and
knowledgeable basketball community have made the game a staple of NovaScotia life, culminating
with the capital city of Halifaxbecoming known as the basketball capital of Canada. When you talk
about basketball in the Maritimes you can break it down into different levels of competition. There

Another first time winner was Halifax West as traditional powerhouses from Queen Elizabeth
and St. Patrick s faced greater competition. Another sign of the game s popularity was the fact
that it was being played in the summer time. After watching rare broadcasts of NBA playoffs, in
which one of the halftime events was pitting the greatest players in the game one on one, this
format was adopted in Halifax and tournaments were held with the winner gaining bragging
rights throughout the city. At the university level, Brian Heaney took over as coach of the St.

eight years under his reign St. Mary s replaced Acadia as the premiere basketball squad in the
province. During the decade St. Mary s won the national championships in 1973, 78, and 79

competitive and won the nationals in 1971 and 1977. They were a formidable opponent for the
Huskies, which resulted in one of the greatest intercollegiate rivalries in the province s history. The
two strong teams made the Atlantic Universities Athletic Association the strongest conference in
the country for the first time as Acadia or SMU captured five national championships during the
decade. (1) Some of the star university players during that time period were Mickey

Lady Macbeth Is Evil
We all have regrets. Sometimes, there is a certain someone that lead us to this bad decision. In
William Shakespeare s, Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, wife of noble warrior Macbeth, has indirectly
influenced nearly every cruel decision made thus far in the story. Whether it is killing a beloved
king, or framing an innocent person for the bloody crime, Lady Macbethis behind everything. Lady
Macbethis a ruthless and manipulative woman because she pressures her loved ones to commit
horrible crimes, betrays those who have been nothing but kind to her, and does not care who she

Along killing a generous man and forcing her husband to commit a violent crime, she is also
willing to ruin the lives of countless other innocent people. Throughout the entire assassination
plot she wanted to pin the murder on two guards. First, she got both guards so drunk that they
would pass out and Macbeth would be able to slip into Duncan s room without being noticed.
Then, she stole their daggers so they could be used as the murder weapon. Finally, she wanted to
wipe Duncan s blood on the guards and ends up killing them. When Macbeth returns from
Duncan s chamber with the two bloody daggers, Lady Macbeth says, Infirm of purpose! Give
me the daggers. The sleeping and the dead are but as pictures. Tis the eye of childhood that fears
a painted devil. If he do bleed, I ll gild the faces of the grooms withal, for it must seem their guilt
(2.2.68 73). This quote depicts Lady Macbeth as being cruel and insensitive. She is going to
cover the faces of the unconscious guards with Duncan s blood, which will make them look very
guilty. Lady Macbeth is also more than willing to kill innocent people just for Duncan s position
of power. After she left MAcbeth to go frame the two guards, she ended up killing them, making
Macbeth tell Malcolm that he killed the two guards after seeing Duncan s dead corpse. After

I Hear America Singing
The American Dream is to pursue happiness is a dream that inspires people of the past, present,
and future to work hard and stay determined. The Dream gives people hope of a better life; it gives
people an optimistic attitude toward a brighter future. I Hear America Singing by Walt Whitman

its people are the vocalists, in terms of each individual has an import role to sing. Walt Whitman

Whitman characterizes this greater choice as the song of America, which he enacts with the
metaphor of singing in the first line. The mixed carols represent the different voices of the
people singing in America. Individuals laboring hard at different variety of jobs show the
musical balance of working for the pursuit of the American Dream. The voices of mechanics are
jovial and strong , the carpenter is chanting as he measures his plank or beam ; the mason , the
boatman, the shoemaker, the woodcutter, the mother, the young wife, and the girl are all singing
while laboring through the day. The interpretation of each singing worker are different. This
means that the people in the poem where not singing the same song, but they do share a common
purpose a better future. Their working together for the improvement of America gives a sense that
everyone is singing together in beautiful song. Also, there is no gradation of importance of
themselves or their work, because their efforts are the voices of American democracy; each person

Individualisation Of Responsibility For Health Essay
Introduction
In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in complementary medicine, and indeed
alternative medicine (Lee Treweek 2002, Andrews 2004, Barry 2006). Moreover the number of
professionally trained therapist and practitioners has increased giving the patient/client a better
choice and at more competitive rates (Smallwood, 2005).
In this essay a critical assessment of the view that patients use of complementary and alternative
medicine, can be understood as part of the individualisation of responsibility for health will be

They along with many other authors (Sointu 2006) suggests that negative experiences within
conventional medical practises can cause disenchantment and initiate people to seek out other
methods of elevating their health care problems. They also cite from sociological studies that
impersonal practises and the inability to cure chronic illness is part of the explanation for the move
to use CAM and alternative therapies (Telford, Kralik, Koch,2006). The results of the study
indicate that another reason for uptake is the fact that many believed in the trends of alternative
methods and choose to use a consumerist attitude (Sharma, 1992:80) to obtaining health care.
Consumer demand has brought about the changes associated with CAM and alternative therapies
use. The increase in several countries at grass root level as suggested by Barry (2005) has
influenced the integration of several therapies into biomedical healthcare systems. Consumerism

Reform Movements Dbq
During the 19th century, many reform movements occurred which helped shape America. The
United States was still developing to achieve an ideal nation, in order to achieve it s goal there
were many reforms. Reform movements occurred in many places, categories, and led by many
magnificent figures. Reform movements ranged from women s rights, education, slavery, and
many more. Despite the equality reforms such as abolition and women s suffrage, the majority of
reforms carried out in the early 19th century focused on a utopian society, instead of democratic
ideals. Therefore, the opinion that all reform movements in America at this time sought to expand

Metaphors In American Childhood
We could have ran through every backyard in North America until we got to Panama (Dillard 48).
This is just one of Dillard s many metaphors throughout the novel that portrays a deep awareness of
space and time. Through metaphors Dillard captures a true depth in the novel that regular sentences
can not obtain. Normal sentences might pull a reader in, however metaphors can truly captivate the
reader to imagine all new possibilities. Dillard shows through metaphors of sight, time, and
understandingthat as you grow older your awareness of time and spacedeepens in understanding.
Sight is one of the few senses that a young child is able to use freely. A young child can have an
outlook that looks completely different than what an adult has. In An American Childhood,
Dillard explores her Pittsburgh and sees many things including, which she describes as, a black
phalanx (34). This metaphor is explicit because a phalanx is meant for a mass of people, not a
few nuns that are walking down the street. Phalanx describes these nuns well because it is a word
Dillard attributes to something she sees as unknown and mystifying. The mystifying nuns represent
one of the first real things that Dillard sees in Pittsburgh that frightens her. Dillard uses this
metaphor as a sign of fear when amongst the nuns, but the reader can see through her word choice
that the awareness she has of the world is pretty open. Dillard is able to see nuns in her travels and
think deeply about her thoughts.

How To Write An Essay On The Catcher In The Rye Man Vs...
Catcher in the Rye Catcher in the Rye is a novel written in 1951 by J.D. Salinger. J.D. Salinger
was an American novelist who is widely known for writing Catcher in the Rye. I know of a
quote from him, which I really think is inspiring. An artist s only concern is to shoot for some
kind of perfection, and on his own terms, not anyone else s. This says a lot about his writing,
because it certainly isn t like anyone else s! As an artist, his author s craft was perfect according
to his guidelines, so he didn t need to be compared to other writers. J.D. Salinger wrote other
books like Franny and Zooey and A Perfect Day for Bananafish, though I have not read them. His
other stories go mainly unnoticed because of the attention centered on Catcher in the Rye. The
story takes place in New York in the late 1940s at Pencey Prep School and New York City. The
main character, Holden Caulfield, tells the story while in California. An interesting note here is that
the story takes place in only three days, from Saturday afternoon to Monday afternoon, even though
it seems much longer. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

novel, however a memorable instance was when Holden felt guilty about Allie s death, and how

said, however, that the main conflict was Holden isolating himself from his family and his
schoolmates. Holden wants to be treated as an adult and have adult experiences (like sex), but is

Theme Of Violence In Huck Finn
Violence can be described as a behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or
kill someone or something. Violence has been around from the beginning and can be seen
through history in writing and events that occurred. In Mark Twain s The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn, violence s jarring effects on societal members are evidenced through various
relationships and partnerships, portraying society s corrupt ideologies and ethics. Child abuse
had a great on effect Huck s whether if it had to do with where he is living or a decision he has
made. Huck has been abused for most if not all of his life by his father, Pap. Huck stated, I used
to be scared of him all the time, he tanned me so much (17). This quote shows how Huck had to
deal with Pap s abuse before and could not help himself. It shows that Pap has poor ethics shown
by beating his child simply because he can. This is an immoral act on Pap s part because he
believes he can control Huck s life including his life choices and his possessions. Pap says, I ll
take you down a peg, before I m done with you (17). Pap continues to torment and threaten Huck
even though he has not been around of the most recent parts of Huck s life. Pap s ideologies have
not changed since Huck was younger. Pap s ideals consist of being able to do what he wants when
he wants. This was apparent when he tries to threaten Huck and put himself above Huck. In the

Indirect Critical Distance
The indirect or reverberant sound field begins to dominate the listening environment when the
child moves far from the teacher. The indirect sound field originates at the critical distance of the
room (point in the room where reverberant sound level and direct sound level are equal). If the
child is within the critical distance (the direct sound field), reverberation will have minimal effects.
Beyond the critical distance (the indirect sound field), however, these reflections can reduce
speech perception ability. Speech perception scores decreases when the distance increases, till the

It cannot be thought of, as a great democratic institution representing the peoples will.
At the time of drafting the constitution, the rules on the senate were to be two senators for each
state, which were appointed by the state legislatures, rather than directly elected by the people.
The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two senators from each state, chosen by
the legislature thereof . This is somewhat of an oxymoron for a country that states we hold these
truths to be self evident. That all men are created equal . The power in the Senate does not lie
with the people, but of the people they elected for their State legislatures. There is no direct link
here between the people and congress, the power is appointed rather like the house of Lords in
the mother country, which was meant to be a bridge between the monarch and the house of

comprised is of a political appointee system, which inevitably favours the wealthy and influential

sequencers, sampling, effects processing, musical instrument digital interface (MIDI), use of

At the time, British inventor, Peter Zinovieff and American Composer, Raymond Scott were both
looking into basic electronic sequencing, however it was Buchla that had the initial breakthrough.
Before then, artists were manually cutting up and splicing tape together to achieve sequences and
Buchla found an electronic alternative and soon developed his electronic sequencer. This meant
that artists would no longer need to go through the time consuming process of cutting up tape for
sequencing. Buchla said, you could simply take my sequencer and set the time and the pitch for
each interval. So that required, of course, a voltage controlled oscillator, and from then it led to a
bunch of other ideas (Pinch, 2004, p.40).
It was after the moog synthesizer that companies and inventors, much like Buchla, had started to
look at other ways of evolving electronics into music. The Minimoog was a monophonic
instrument, and instruments like the APR odyssey were soon after introduced that allowed
duophony possible on synthesizers. The APR odyssey mk I was released in 1972, and was an
aesthetically pleasing duophonic synthesizer, making it easy for a performer to tweak the
parameters of the synthesized sound with sliders. By the mid 1970 s, well known companies like

polyphony to be introduced to the electronic music scene. One

I think that It was a good idea for the U.S to drop the bombs on Hiroshima. One reason why I

largest part of the brain and it has two halves that divides into four region or lobes in each half.
The frontal lobes are involved with speech, thought, learning, emotion, and movement. The parietal

Why Canada Entered Into Trade Agreement With United States
The term trade can defined as the movement of goods and consumables across the boundaries of
the two regions in order to promote the access to items which are distinct in one region but
surplus in the other. The international trade is as old as the history of mankind. Earlier when
there was no concept of countries, the trade simply meant the movement of goods to far distant
places. As soon as man realized that an access is needed to items that are not available in his
region, he travelled and found them abroad. Now the difficulty was to gain control over those
items while maintaining peace. This was how, the term barter and trade came into existence and
people started to enter into agreements to transfer goods for goods or goods for money.... Show

The main reason for such a strong opposition was supported by the belief of the opposition that
Canada will lose its internal autonomy and become one of the US s 51st state . They also had the
concern that such an agreement will demolish their personal interests with regard to the foreign
policies and other existing trade agreements with other countries.
As every step taken by a government is to ensure the well being of its nation and the prosperity
of the country, Canada was pushed by the same driving force to make a trade deal with US. Since
the primary purpose and advantage offered by a free trade agreement is to exploit the no tariff
trade, it was not the goal of Canadian government while seeking this agreement. The trade tariffs
were already very low, around 1% of the total value of the trade, then a question arises that what
Canadian government was aiming for.
It was the vast economy of the American market which was the target of Canadian government.
Canada desired to get an unrestricted access to the vast economy of US. While on the other side,
US were aiming to get cheap access to the cultural industries as well Energy sector of Canada.
This is the basic essence of a trading relationship where the interests of every party is respected and
agreed upon.
According to an estimate, almost 70% of the Canadian export takes place to US markets and
similarly, almost 70% of its imports are from

Postman s Analysis of Brave New World
Postman s Analysis of Brave New World
As analyzed by social critic Neil Postman, Huxley s vision of the future, portrayed in the novel
Brave New World, holds far more relevance to present day society than that of Orwell s classic
1984. Huxley s vision was simple: it was a vision of a trivial society, drowned in a sea of pleasure
and ignorant of knowledge and pain, slightly resembling the world of today. In society today,
knowledge is no longer appreciated as it has been in past cultures, in turn causing a deficiency in
intelligence and will to learn. Also, as envisioned by Huxley, mind altering substances are becoming
of greater availability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Tissue Aging Research Paper
Among the diseases and disorders associated with advancing age, one of the most debilitating is
the loss of normal cardiac function leading to heart failure. Heart failure affects approximately
1% of individuals over 50 and over 5% of individuals over 75. With the ongoing steep rise in the
proportion of elderly individuals within our population (Schocken et al., 2008), age related heart
failure is becoming increasingly prevalent.
Most age related heart failure occurs in the setting of normal systolic function and is called diastolic
heart failure, in contrast to systolic heart failure (Aurigemma, 2006). Although progress has been
made in the treatment of systolic heart failure, with substantial improvements in outcome over the
past two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here, using a parabiosis model, we demonstrate that age related cardiac hypertrophy can be
reversed by exposure to a young circulatory environment. These experiments reveal that the cardiac
hypertrophy of aging is at least in part mediated by circulating factors and led to the discovery that
systemic growth differentiation factor 11 (GDF11), a TGF ОІ family member, can reverse age
related cardiac hypertrophy. These data suggest that at least one pathologic component of age
related diastolic heart failure is hormonal in nature and

Zinc Deficiency Can Cause Damage to the Brain Essay
Introduction
During the past few hundred years, zinc has been known to be the vital mineral and catalytic of
a lot of proteins and a signalling messenger who is released by neural activity. (choi koh, 1998)
Since zinc has been discovered by raulin in 1869 to be needed as a grower of aspergillus niger
which is type of fungus and one of the most common species of the genus aspergillus, this fungus is
common contaminant of food and cause black mould on certain food. Beside the cause of
contaminated food, zinc has been admitted as important for human in modern times.(Prasad, 1984)
(Hambidge , 2000) (Vallee Auld, 1990)
Zinc is contained in most of food, especially fish and meat provides the most and optimum sources

If in human body occurs zinc deficiency and toxicity, it will affect the growth, brain development,
pregnancy and male reproduction and also will cause anorexia. Aside from the deficiency, if too
much consume of zinc it will induce the toxicity. This research study will discuss further the
deficiency and the toxicity of zinc in human body. (Brycesmith, 1989)
Food Source of Zinc
The distribution of zinc is widely and is typically associated with the protein fraction and/or
nucleic fraction food. Meat (beef, Pork), poultry, organ meats (beef, poultry), fish and shellfish are
rich sources of dietary zinc which also can be found in eggs, dairy product with lesser amount
(shown in table below). Whole grain cereal especially bran and germ, nuts, seed also legumes have
high zinc content, meanwhile tubers, refined cereals, fruits and vegetable have less. Comparing
zinc absorption between animal source and plant origin on body animal source will have higher
bioavailability then plant origin it because of the fiber and phytates that can inhibit the zinc uptake
by intestine. (Recommended Nutrient Intakes for Malaysia, 2005) Zinc Interactions, absorptions,
distribution, metabolism and excretion
The interaction between zinc and cooper are equally opposed, both are being interacting in
gastreointestinal uptake so it potencially leading to imbalance. It can be also applied for zinc and
iron in competing on absorbtion, an

Definition Of Wisdom In Fahrenheit 451
There are many definitions of wisdom but one of the best understanding I have received is that
wisdom is knowledge gained through suffering. Elaine Heath
This quote from Elaine Heath and Larry Duggins book Missional.Monastic.Mainline. mentioned
what I thought of as the quintessential definition of wisdom. Through effort and sacrifice, one can
attain pearls of wisdom such as freedom can t be bought cheap, it s better to die with knowledge
than to live in ignorance, and ignorance is bliss only for those whose minds are vacant of the
veracity of facts.
Freedom is the foundation of western democracies and the fundamental argument that people have
the unalienable right to live as they choose and it is undeniable that freedom can t be bought cheap.
This is true since freedom is the reason for the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil
War, etc.In Fahrenheit 451, the value of freedom is illustrated in Montag s conversation with
Mildred after he witnessed the immolation of the old lady where he verbalizes his frustration by
saying There must be something in books, things we can t imagine, to make a woman stay in a
burning house; there must be something there. (Bradbury 48) In this quote, we can see that the
lady choose to stay with her books, a symbol of freedom and knowledge, which emphasized the
idea that freedom is worth giving one s life to protect. During the Civil War Civil War and Jim
Crow era (1865 1965) African Americans had to fight for their, long

Effects Of Masked Semantic Priming
The present study provides results that partially support prior findings on masked semantic priming
on emotional and neutral stimuli. The results support the hypothesis that emotional valence words
are have a faster reaction time than neutral words. The results also support that emotional valence
words would have a larger prime effect than neutral words, and that negative stimuli would show a
larger primingeffect than positive words. Contrary to expectations, the results show the larger
priming effects on negative valence words only correlated moderately with higher scores on the
SSTAI and OHQ however these findings were not significant. Finally, contrary to expectations, the
priming effect on positive stimuli was not significantly correlated... Show more content on

Awareness is achieved through masked prime, whereas attention is acquired through the target word
. The processing of emotional word meanings on an unconscious level results in an amplification of
cortical processing which in turn increases the chance of neuronal activation needed to pass the
small threshold to access conscious processing (Gaillard, 2006). In addition, the front parietal
cortical network which is thought to sub serve conscious access has connections to the cortico
subcortical network in order to mediate emotion. Intracranial recordings have shown that masked
emotional words stimulate subliminal modulation of amygdala activity (Gaillard et al., 2006).
Amygdala connections could also enhance perceptual representations of emotion stimuli after
emotional information has been achieved through high level visual areas and primary visual cortex

Personal Conduct In The NFL, National Football League
Not Me Personal conduct in the NFL, National Football League, is an issue that is starting to
spiral out of control. Late September, 2014, the league [had] suspended at least 20 players for
actions including assault, substance abuse and use of performance enhancing drugs (White); this
was only a few weeks into the regular season of play for the league. The NFL has grown
enormously since it was founded on August 20, 1920 in Canton, Ohio. But, this league has become
more and more lenient with its playersand personnel. Many professional athletes in the NFL receive
special treatment regardless of their improper actions, thus allowing them to elude the consequences
and in turn setting a misleading example for their young fans. In order... Show more content on

The players and teams receive too much leeway when they are involved with crimes or
misconducts. They have a distorted view of themselves (White) which induces them to overvalue
their abilities and are proud and condescending when relating to others (White). The league is
responsible for investigating and taking action against the players and teams that do not follow the
NFL Personal Conduct Policy which the league describes as avoiding conduct detrimental to the
integrity of and public confidence in the National Football League (ESPN). This is required to be
accepted by all workers in the NFL: players, general managers, coaches, owners, sideline/team
employees, and even game officials. Roger Goodell, because of his title and job description, is
delegated to be the the judge and the jury in individual cases (Pease). This responsibility he has is
not a wise way of handling cases because there needs to be some sort of committee involved in
order to give a thorough, well balanced, opinion and

I Don t Trust Them
Luckily, cleanup was almost as quick and easy as tearing everything apart through our entrance. A
few of the witches and wizards present used cleaning spells that caused the room to pick itself up,
the vases returning to the shelves and the pictures returning to the walls. The table was finally in
working condition again, and once everything was set, we calmly took our places at the table.
It s come to my attention that we have three new guests, said Sirius, standing at his place at the
table. Seeing that they don t appear to be any creature we can recognize, and my personal belief
that they appear to be innocent, I say that we allow them to at least know who we are and, with
luck, help them on their way home.

message for every single one of the people here at the table.
There was a brief murmuring at the table, and everyone s eyes locked onto Sylvia.
Giving a smile, since she loved attention, she began to speak. Sirius, avoid ladies with Lorde hair.
Furthermore, if Harry goes on a prophesy hunt, stay home, okay? Just trust me on this. Fred?
George? Do you boys like Spain? Well, the food s amazing, I d recommend camping there for a
few months in... I don t know, two or so years. Lupin? When the Weasley twins leave on holiday,
go anywhere you want, as long as it s not England. Oh! I d stay away from Washington state in
the U.S., there s a boy named Jacob who you don t want to meet. Harry? Dumbledore s going to
take you to a creepy place guarded by the undead defending a horcrux. Ends up, it s not a horcux,
Dumbledore s going to drink a bunch of poison and then be killed. Moody? Avoid frog ladies in
pink cardigans, and if you re going with Harry on a flight... just don t. Am I perfectly clear?
Why do I feel like she can see the future? asked the red headed boy, leaning in to speak with the
curly haired girl. From what I remembered, this must have been Ronald Weasley.
That s because she named us all and because she doesn t look like Professor Trelawney, answered

Three Separate Categories
Question #1 Hazards can be characterized in to three separate categories: physical, chemical, and
natural. Physical Hazards Physical hazards are those that pose a threat to human physical well
being. Examples of these hazards are: fire, explosion, noise, slips, falls, release of hazardous
energy, entrapment, heat, and cold (Haight, 2012, p. 60). Chemical Hazards Chemical hazards pose
an external or internal physiological threat to one or more parts of the human body. This hazard can
cause both short/long term health and physical effects depending on route of entry, toxicity, amount
and duration of exposure (Haight, 2012, p. 60). Natural Hazards Natural hazards are those found in
nature and that affect such living things as animals

  • 2. Civic Duty Duty comes from the Old French word Duete originating in the late 1250 s to early 1300 s, a past participle of the Latin word Devoir . In which both of these word s meaning to have an obligation or commitment resulting in action of oneself due to moral commitment. An early philosopher by the name of Marcus Tullius Cicero said Duty is a result of being a human, is a result of one s particular place in life, is a result in one character, and also a result of one s own moral expectations. Many people even believe in a Civic Duty that is one being responsible enough to obey the law, pay taxes and serve on a jury, These are just a few of many Civic Duties people acknowledge in our society today. In the case of general court martials not only do they have the ability to reduce the accused grade to Private (E 1) but, they also have the ability to imprison or discharge the solider. Offense one: violates or fails to obey any lawful general order or regulation. Offense two: having knowledge of any other lawful order issued by a member of the armed forces, which it is his duty to obey, fails to obey the order; or. Finally offense three: is derelict in the performance of his duties; shall be punished as a court martial may direct. • 3. Essay On Detective Fiction Why we should read detective fiction. We spend large parts of our lives in books about fiction. Not only in books but also through television shows and films. Many people wonder if it is positive or negative to read Fiction? Society is changing and is today surrounded by digital media that govern society. When society changes, it may in some cases be enjoyable to escape from reality and this by reading detective fiction. Britannica.com (Search word, Fiction history ,2017) explains that detective and crime related stories are one of the most popular genres of fiction. The authors are many who have found inspiration from the well known authors Edgar Allan Poe and Conan Doyle. What characterizes detective fiction is that a crime is introduced and investigated and the culprit is revealed. • 4. Drug Legalization Essay If drugs would to be legalized, there will have to be new set of laws to be follow. The major problem with our society as in now, is the spending in drug wars. According to Gary E. Johnson in The Case for Drug Legalization states how ...We are spending $150 billion a year to combat drugs. This also includes spending in such as courts, jails , and police. But we should also consider, if drugs were to be legalized, It ll be easier for the government to control and they will be able to tax the usage of drugs. Especially, the legalization of drugs will help spend money on other things such as education, public schools, emergency services and will save a lot of finance instead of spending on tracking down druglords. Nowadays drugs are being sold nationwide through black marketing and a lot of people could get hands on , which cause competition between others drug lords, cartels and violence is erupted. I believe if drugs were to be legalized , it would tremendously drop crime, murder, addiction to certain drugs, and the government would regulate and tax drugs. Second of all, the black market has been going for a while and it s used to sell illegal goods as a underground economy, and many people buy drugs that aren t legal. This market gets by not being taxed all and many people can get hands on drugs that can really be deleterious to themselves and other people around them. If we would to legalize drugs , the black market would drop business and the government would be able to track down who buys the drugs by having only stores that sell least harmful drugs such as marijuana. For most, not all drugs should be legalized because of the dangerous usage of drugs to the body especially if it s a first time taking in drugs. According to the article Addiction Center.com explains that Over 90% of those with an addiction began drinking, smoking or using illicit drugs before the age of 18. Even though with laws that enforce illegal drug usage, many people take advantage of it because it s not easily to be find so they become addicted to small drugs and eventually build up to using stronger drugs such as Psychedelic Mushrooms,Opium,Lsd,Methamphetamine, and etc. If the black market business would be to decline ... Women In Advertising Jean Kilbourne (2010) in the video Killing Us Softly 4: Advertising s image of women pointed out that people always assume the women in advertisements have the perfect look and a good figure. Many women even feel ashamed when they failed to achieve ideal beauty and retain slim figure after they saw the advertisements. I agree with her idea that the advertisement depict women in a very dangerous way. Many people started to judge women by perfect look and slim figure. These kinds of advertisements may do harm to women s healthmentally and physically, especially to teenagers, when they are trying to achieve perfect appearance as perfect women depicted in advertisements. Everyone cares about how he or she look and wants to have a good figure. Today, a good appearance can even leave a good impression to other people. However, nobody is perfect. I think nobody has a perfect face and retain flawless forever. The perfect women in advertisements and magazines have good make up that make them look flawless and slim. • 7. What Are The Arguments Against Pro Life Defense Gillian Torchia Mr. Lowry English9h 6 7 February 2016 Defense for the Defenseless In 2008 there were 1.21 million abortions performed in the United States. That is three thousand three hundred and twenty two abortions performed each day (Guttmacher Institute). The topic of abortion has been a heavily talked about topic for the past few years. There are two sides of the issue, pro life, which is against abortion and pro choice, which is for abortion. Abortion should not be legal because it is a scientific procedure, it is currently supported by law, and deprives fetuses of a future like ours. One of the main arguments against the pro life movement is that the fetuses that are being removed are not humans and therefore do not have basic rights. When human sperm penetrates a human ovum, a zygote is formed. A zygote is undeniably human because it composed of human DNA that is unique from both the mother s and the father s individual DNA. From this, it can be concluded that abortion operations affect more than just the mother and her rights, it now includes the rights of the fetus. Also, the human zygote fulfills the scientific definition of an organism. The human embryo is a complex structure of independent elements designed to carry on the activities of life by separately functioning but mutually dependent organs. The human zygote also fulfills the four main categories of biological life: growth, reproduction, reaction to stimuli, and metabolism. Reaction to stimuli ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Leisure, play, recreation, and sport and tourism can be related to each other and used to describe each other. Often time s people consider sport tourism, recreation, and play as a leisureactivity. On the other hand, recreation does not necessarily always refer to a leisure activity. The definition and classification of each activity into these categories can change with time. I believe sport tourism is a very large sector of the global travel industry today. People are constantly traveling to watch their favorite team compete in an opponent s stadium or travel to compete in their own activities. People love to travel and experience new places. When combining sports with travel, it is the best of both worlds. Escaping from your usual environment and experiencing something new and challenging is one of the reasons why people enjoy to travel. I personally know multiple people who travel to different cities to watch a sports team or to participate in some kind of racing event. Sport tourism, to me, is considered leisure time. I personally enjoy traveling to other cities/states to watch my favorite team play. One of my favorite experiences was traveling to Orland, Florida, to watch the University of Memphis play in the conference championship football game. Identifying The Unknown Microorganism Given By The Instructor Unknown #2 Lab Report Danielle Gudino BIO 211L Section 6 11/20/2014 Introduction This experiment was about identifying the unknown microorganism given by the instructor. This exercise is important to understand and apply all previous laboratory practices, as well as those learned in our first unknown exercise, for identifying the given unknown organism. With the knowledge and practice of performing biochemical and physiological identifying tests, I was able to determine the unknown bacteria. For this experiment, I was given Unknown #12 and used a series of tests to determine the specimen, further explained in this report. Materials and Methods For the Gram stain, I used a microscope slide, wash bottle of water, clothespin, and the reagents crystal violet, Gram s iodine, ethyl alcohol, and safranin to observe whether the organism was Gram negative or positve. The method was placing and heat fixing a loopful of the unknown organism on the slide. The organisms were then stained with crystal violet for a minute, rinsed off, flooded with iodine for a minute, rinsed off, decolorized with alcohol for 30 seconds, and then finally stained with the counter stain, safranin, for a minute. I streaked the unknown onto a TSA plate and incubated at 35 C. With a pure colony, we performed a second gram stain procedure and inoculated it into a TSA slant. I used BCP Lactose broth and a loop to perform a BCP Lactose test. The broth was inoculated with a loopful of the unknown and incubated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is due, in part, to our rapid economic development, boosting the U.S. into the fifth stage of Rostow s model for economic development; the Age of Mass Consumption (this model entails that a country begins in poverty, introduces varying levels of industry, becomes economically self sufficient, and, in the final stage, outsources all industry to developing countries). The Age of Mass Consumption is just as deadly as it sounds, incurring insatiable demand for cheap labor, and therefore a wasteful popular mindset. And so ensues consumerism, the love child of social media and cheap manufacturing. Consumerism bears it s own dangerous children, including but not limited to genetically modified organisms, pesticides, Costco, smartphones, wireless Internet, Netflix, and fast fashion. The vast majority of Americans will recognize the aforementioned phenomenon of pop culture, except perhaps fast fashion . The mortality and morbidity resulting from this increasing injection drug use became a major political issue. This resulted in the adoption of harm reduction by the government as one of their four pillars of their drug strategy (Fafard, 2012). The research shows that Insite has not promoted increased illicit drug injection, but rather it has attracted individuals with histories of injection drug use. Another claim put forth by the Conservatives is that SISs are harmful to communities. They believe SISs create public nuisances, and threaten public safety (Broadhead, Kerr amp; Alice, 2002). Research on the other hand argues that SISs can address issues related to public. Florence Kelley, a united states social worker and reformer, opposes the appalling work environment children as young as six would toil through and relays her speech to the National WomanSuffrageAssociation to propel her audience to demand changes that are necessary to stop countless hours of hard work the youth struggle to complete. Kelley questions if the enfranchisement of women would ve led to the Georgia Legislature refusing at every session for the last three years to stop the work in the mills of children under twelve years of age (lines 56 58). This rhetorical question is aimed at the men who continuously vote to allow twelve year old s and under to work in mills which were known for its horrendous working conditions and lack of safety. Therefore, she presumes that mothers and teachers are the ones who would repeal the law in favor for their children; The men are not standing up for the rights of the youth. She proves her purpose by establishing that men should reflect on whether they had a role in allowing child labor to fester for years and taking advantage of people who cannot speak up for themselves. Kelley continues her questioning by asking if the New Jersey Legislature would ve stopped the shameful repeal bill enabling girls of fourteen years to work all night if mothers had the right to vote (lines 59 61). The results of the study indicate that another reason for uptake is the fact that many believed in the trends of alternative methods and choose to use a consumerist attitude (Sharma, 1992:80) to obtaining health care. This is just one of Dillard s many metaphors throughout the novel that portrays a deep awareness of space and time. Through metaphors Dillard captures a true depth in the novel that regular sentences can not obtain. Normal sentences might pull a reader in, however metaphors can truly captivate the reader to imagine all new possibilities. Dillard shows through metaphors of sight, time, and understandingthat as you grow older your awareness of time and spacedeepens in understanding. Sight is one of the few senses that a young child is able to use freely. A young child can have an outlook that looks completely different than what an adult has. In An American Childhood, Dillard explores her Pittsburgh and sees many things including, which she describes as, a black phalanx (34). This metaphor is explicit because a phalanx is meant for a mass of people, not a few nuns that are walking down the street. Phalanx describes these nuns well because it is a word Dillard attributes to something she sees as unknown and mystifying. The mystifying nuns represent one of the first real things that Dillard sees in Pittsburgh that frightens her. Dillard uses this metaphor as a sign of fear when amongst the nuns, but the reader can see through her word choice that the awareness she has of the world is pretty open. Dillard is able to see nuns in her travels and think deeply about her thoughts. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This meant that artists would no longer need to go through the time consuming process of cutting up tape for sequencing. Buchla said, you could simply take my sequencer and set the time and the pitch for each interval. The study plan based on my results from the first MCT test (Appendix B) explains that I need to improve on my geometry skill a little (Appendix D). The task that best demonstrates my ability to use geometry is in the TTP for week 9 The iPhone problem (Appendix K) which required me to convert units of measurement to calculate the volume of area that an iPhone occupies, calculate the volume of the average Australian home and then use these values to determine whether all the iPhones would fill a house and then determine if they would be taller than the tallest mountain. But the three facts that I learned about the brain that I didn t know before was on the national geographic site, the article brain stated that the brain s nerve cells are known as neutrons, which make up the organ s so called gray matter (National Geographic, n.d.). That the cerebellum which is the second largest part of the brainis responsible for coordinating muscle movement and controlling our balance, and the cerebellum transmits information to the spinal cord and other parts of the brain (National Geographic, n.d.). Also on The Human Brainarticle the limbic system regulates body temperature, blood pressure, blood sugar level, and other housekeeping activities. Also, it s good to know what each part of the brain is and what it does like the cerebrum is the largest part of the brain and it has two halves that divides into four region or lobes in each half. The frontal lobes are involved with speech, thought, learning, emotion, and movement. The parietal lobes, which process sensory information like touch, temperature and pain. The occipital lobes deal with the vision and the temporal lobes are involved with hearing and memory (National Geographic, n.d.). • 40. Why Canada Entered Into Trade Agreement With United States The term trade can defined as the movement of goods and consumables across the boundaries of the two regions in order to promote the access to items which are distinct in one region but surplus in the other. The international trade is as old as the history of mankind. Earlier when there was no concept of countries, the trade simply meant the movement of goods to far distant places. As soon as man realized that an access is needed to items that are not available in his region, he travelled and found them abroad. Now the difficulty was to gain control over those items while maintaining peace. This was how, the term barter and trade came into existence and people started to enter into agreements to transfer goods for goods or goods for money.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main reason for such a strong opposition was supported by the belief of the opposition that Canada will lose its internal autonomy and become one of the US s 51st state . They also had the concern that such an agreement will demolish their personal interests with regard to the foreign policies and other existing trade agreements with other countries. As every step taken by a government is to ensure the well being of its nation and the prosperity of the country, Canada was pushed by the same driving force to make a trade deal with US. Since the primary purpose and advantage offered by a free trade agreement is to exploit the no tariff trade, it was not the goal of Canadian government while seeking this agreement. The trade tariffs were already very low, around 1% of the total value of the trade, then a question arises that what Canadian government was aiming for. It was the vast economy of the American market which was the target of Canadian government. Canada desired to get an unrestricted access to the vast economy of US. While on the other side, US were aiming to get cheap access to the cultural industries as well Energy sector of Canada. This is the basic essence of a trading relationship where the interests of every party is respected and agreed upon. According to an estimate, almost 70% of the Canadian export takes place to US markets and similarly, almost 70% of its imports are from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Postman s Analysis of Brave New World Postman s Analysis of Brave New World As analyzed by social critic Neil Postman, Huxley s vision of the future, portrayed in the novel Brave New World, holds far more relevance to present day society than that of Orwell s classic 1984. Huxley s vision was simple: it was a vision of a trivial society, drowned in a sea of pleasure and ignorant of knowledge and pain, slightly resembling the world of today. In society today, knowledge is no longer appreciated as it has been in past cultures, in turn causing a deficiency in intelligence and will to learn. Heart failure affects approximately 1% of individuals over 50 and over 5% of individuals over 75. With the ongoing steep rise in the proportion of elderly individuals within our population (Schocken et al., 2008), age related heart failure is becoming increasingly prevalent. Most age related heart failure occurs in the setting of normal systolic function and is called diastolic heart failure, in contrast to systolic heart failure (Aurigemma, 2006). (Brycesmith, 1989) Food Source of Zinc The distribution of zinc is widely and is typically associated with the protein fraction and/or nucleic fraction food. Meat (beef, Pork), poultry, organ meats (beef, poultry), fish and shellfish are rich sources of dietary zinc which also can be found in eggs, dairy product with lesser amount (shown in table below). Whole grain cereal especially bran and germ, nuts, seed also legumes have high zinc content, meanwhile tubers, refined cereals, fruits and vegetable have less. Comparing zinc absorption between animal source and plant origin on body animal source will have higher bioavailability then plant origin it because of the fiber and phytates that can inhibit the zinc uptake by intestine. (Recommended Nutrient Intakes for Malaysia, 2005) Zinc Interactions, absorptions, distribution, metabolism and excretion The interaction between zinc and cooper are equally opposed, both are being interacting in gastreointestinal uptake so it potencially leading to imbalance. • 44. Definition Of Wisdom In Fahrenheit 451 There are many definitions of wisdom but one of the best understanding I have received is that wisdom is knowledge gained through suffering. Elaine Heath This quote from Elaine Heath and Larry Duggins book Missional.Monastic.Mainline. mentioned what I thought of as the quintessential definition of wisdom. Through effort and sacrifice, one can attain pearls of wisdom such as freedom can t be bought cheap, it s better to die with knowledge than to live in ignorance, and ignorance is bliss only for those whose minds are vacant of the veracity of facts. Freedom is the foundation of western democracies and the fundamental argument that people have the unalienable right to live as they choose and it is undeniable that freedom can t be bought cheap. This is true since freedom is the reason for the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War, etc.In Fahrenheit 451, the value of freedom is illustrated in Montag s conversation with Mildred after he witnessed the immolation of the old lady where he verbalizes his frustration by saying There must be something in books, things we can t imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house; there must be something there. (Bradbury 48) In this quote, we can see that the lady choose to stay with her books, a symbol of freedom and knowledge, which emphasized the idea that freedom is worth giving one s life to protect. During the Civil War Civil War and Jim Crow era (1865 1965) African Americans had to fight for their, long ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The results support the hypothesis that emotional valence words are have a faster reaction time than neutral words. The results also support that emotional valence words would have a larger prime effect than neutral words, and that negative stimuli would show a larger primingeffect than positive words. Contrary to expectations, the results show the larger priming effects on negative valence words only correlated moderately with higher scores on the SSTAI and OHQ however these findings were not significant. Awareness is achieved through masked prime, whereas attention is acquired through the target word . The processing of emotional word meanings on an unconscious level results in an amplification of cortical processing which in turn increases the chance of neuronal activation needed to pass the small threshold to access conscious processing (Gaillard, 2006). In addition, the front parietal cortical network which is thought to sub serve conscious access has connections to the cortico subcortical network in order to mediate emotion. Intracranial recordings have shown that masked emotional words stimulate subliminal modulation of amygdala activity (Gaillard et al., 2006). Amygdala connections could also enhance perceptual representations of emotion stimuli after emotional information has been achieved through high level visual areas and primary visual cortex (Gaillard et al., ...
