Tarrega The Black Death Analysis
In the text The Black Death and its Consequences for the Jewish Community in Tarrega, the authors
note that the discovery of communal burial sites in Tarrega (ca. 2007) now provides archeological
evidence for the documentary records of the mass murder of Jews in July, 1348. Long before the
discovery of the six communal grave sites, testimonies such as that of Hayyim Galipapa (1310 1380)
have provided textual records for the mass killing of Jews during the spread of the plague. The authors
argue that a consequence of the plague epidemic was the increase attacks on social minorities, Jews in
particular stood out as a powerful minority group which many of these attacks focused around. As
such, the Jewish community suffered disproportionately

Sergeant Pepper s Lonely Hearts Club Band Essay
On June 1st, 1967, The Beatles released Sergeant Pepper s Lonely Hearts Club Band, an album that
would not have been created without the influence of psychedelic drugs. These psychedelic drugs
created the energy of the album because of the relationship LSD brought to The Beatles. Before
November of 1966, the band had been divided in half with the people who took LSD (George
Harrison and John Lennon) and the ones who did not (Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr). In November
of 1966, Paul McCartney agreed to try LSD. This agreement closed the gap between the band. The
mended division between the band led to a collective consciousness between the band members and
filled McCartney with a new sense of possibility, both of which were very important the ... Show more

The record follows the idea of The Beatles being Sergeant Pepper s band, as some sort of alter ego,
and has a beginning, middle, and end. This allowed the band to present themselves as something new
and fresh by adopting the persona of a fake group (Gould 385). The concept album model set by The
Beatles has been used over the past four decades by many other groups. This was not the only way
that the album was revolutionary, though, the diverse compositions that allowed the album to be a
cross between the uniformed brass bands of Lancashire and the ornately named acid rock groups of
California caused a massive explosion of aesthetics (Gould 418). The contrast of the instruments and
compositions used from song to song in the album, namely the soft ambience of imported paisley
carpets and a haze of smoldering incense in George Harrison s Indian influenced song, Within You
Without You vs the 40 piece orchestra in A Day in the Life , set the tone for many albums to come
(Gould 387). The effect Sergeant Pepper s Lonely Hearts Club Band had on the music industry and the
people of the 1960s was undeniably huge and it would not have been possible without the influence of

Nuclear Weapons And Its Effects On The United States
Tensions between Iran and other major world powers, such as the United States, Great Britain, and
France, have been running high ever since the Iranians began investing in nuclear weaponry back in
the 1990 s. The global community has attempted to force Iran to stop its production of such weapons
with economic sanctions. These sanctions have crippled Iran s economy but have not stopped the
manufacturing of nuclear weapons. The nuclear proliferation in Iran is not necessarily a threat to US
society rather it is a threat to an ideal held by the US and other nations. By having nuclear weapons,
Iran has the capability to destroy any nation it chooses. This kind of power paired with the track
record of support for past militant groups, has caused Iran to be an issue. The Iran Nuclear Deal will
help to solve the issue but has a few faults when outlining exactly how this deal will stay in tact for
fifteen years without Iran reneging on its promises.
Nuclear proliferation is a problem that can affect the US indirectly. The US and a few other states, is
known to have nuclear weapons. These states are strong and trusted by most of the global community.
It is not okay for a state like Iran to develop these weapons because they could easily fall into the
wrong hands. The country of Iran is known for supporting terrorist groups in the past and this could
easily become a reality today (Bruno). There is another possibility that Iran could attack Israel with
nuclear force, due to long unrest

John Doe Case
When operating a business with a union contract, miscommunication and lack of training can lead to
grievances. In the scenario given in the assignment, a lack of understanding of the union contract led
to a potential problem that must be addressed quickly, honestly, and fairly. When the manager with no
union experience was hired, training should have been conducted immediately on the rules and
regulations of the union contract. The manager should have read and understood the company
obligations under the contract before considering any raises, promotions, or changes. In addition, if
this was his first time doing evaluations and raises, they should have been overseen by his boss or by
the HR department to ensure that there was no problem with them.
To ensure that this situation does not occur again, HR should conduct training for all managers on
union rules and regulations as part of the on boarding process. A test on the rules and regulations of
the current contract should be administered to verify understanding so the manager does not have the I
didn t know defense. As the contracts change, managers should receive training on the changes made

Carnival Corporation
Irene Ruggieri Campaign Critique Assignment #1 Carnival Corporation Carnival Corporation, like
many other companies, has had its ups and downs throughout the years of its existence. Their first
cruise ship, the TSS Mardi Gras, ran aground on a sandbar during its inaugural voyage. (Business
Insider, p.1) In 1998 one of the company s cruise ships had a fire in the laundry room that led to the
ship losing its course. However, 2012 and 2013 were especially hard for the company due to two
incidents that caused the company to lose both revenue and the confidence of their shareholders and
customers. In their 2012 Annual report, the company states revenues declined $410 million primarily
as a result of the direct and indirect consequences of the Costa Concordia incident . (Carnival Corp plc

The African Exhibit At The Art Institute Of Chicago
The African exhibit at the Art Institute of Chicago is difficult to find. At the end of a shotgun wing
consisting of Japanese, Korean, and other East Asian art, and beyond Native American art, sits the one
room gallery for African art. Here, most of the objects could be considered fashions, tools, or domestic
objects. There is a bizarre absence of chronology, and the objects seem too similar to speak for Africa
at large as if everything on display arose from the same historical situation and from the same
experimental sampling pool. Among this ad hoc assortment of characters, one would find a chest.

This pattern continues on all sides of the box with the metalwork even making up the hasp on the front
and the hinges of the box s lid on the plain, back panel. Even the interior radiates with ornamentation.
The coppery leather lining of the jewelry box is painted with reds, greens, purples, and yellows. The
geometry of the pattern is vastly different than the exterior. It hosts a field of angular forms adjoined
to their neighbors with repetitious outlines of various colors. Some of these forms contain even more
detail. One can pick out latticing, hatching, cross hatching, and stippling within these shapes. The
detail work creates a contrast between interior and exterior, as the artistic production between the
spaces is vastly different. It seems like these boxes are made by group effort. Functionally, the jewelry
box needs further examination for any comprehension. Its bulky size makes sense in conjunction with
the many surrounding jewelry pieces, which are elaborate, heavily ornamented, and chunky. Because
the back of the chest was plain and so unlike the rest, it must have been hidden from sight. This could
very well mean that the box was fixed in location, like furniture. Similarly, by understanding that
jewelry boxes were used as dowry or sometimes as a gift from bride to groom, one can also infer the
centrality of the box to the culture. In the United States it is common to receive dinnerware and other

Older Workers Persuasive Speech
Attention Getter: Our economy keep changing as fast as the speed of a roller coaster. Therefore, many
people including employers assume that workers over 45 are less productivities because younger
workers will keep up with rapid economic development better. This assumption can be against anyone
of us in the future because some of us will join the group of older workers someday.
Topic Revelation: I am Uyen Nguyen, today I will convince you to support employment protection for
older workers.
Credibility Statement: In 2013, the U.S. Department of Labor announces that one third of total U.S.
workforce is 50 years or older and predict that in 2050, the group of 65 years or older is expected to

III. Cause As I just mentioned about the retirement plan. I want to talk more about it because the good
purpose of retirement plans unintentionally becomes the cause of age discrimination in our society.
In the book Old and Obsolete: Age Discrimination and the American Worker published in 1989, the
prejudice against older workers in the workplace did not exist before having retirement plans. Before
the 20th century, older workers, along with all others, were expected to remain economically and
socially useful as long as they were physically able to do so

About the Sarbanes-Oxley Act Essay
Between the years 2000 and 2002 there were over a dozen corporate scandals involving unethical
corporate governance practices. The allegations ranged from faulty revenue reporting and falsifying
financial records, to the shredding and destruction of financial documents (Patsuris, 2002). Most
notably, are the cases involving Enron and Arthur Andersen. The allegations of the Enron scandal
went public in October 2001. They included, hiding debt and boosting profits to the tune of more than
one billion dollars. They were also accused of bribing foreign governments to win contacts and
manipulating both the California and Texas power markets (Patsuris, 2002). Following these
allegations, Arthur Andersen was investigated for, allegedly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The act identifies and assigns accountability to those who knowingly falsify documents and it clearly
states the consequences for acting outside the defined standard, relating to corporate governance.
Using case studies we will review how the passing of the Sarbanes Oxley Act is helping to
standardized a code of conduct and how it has increased the awareness of corporate responsibility.
First, we will review the definitions of corporate governance, business ethics and corporate
responsibility. Next, we will examine the effectiveness of the Sarbanes Oxley Act, through a case
study and identify possible challenges the Sarbanes Oxley Act may face, as public demand for social
responsibility increases. Finally, we will review proactive recommendations for provisions to key
titles of the Sarbanes Oxley Act. These provisions will accommodate the growing public demand for
ethical and social responsibility.
As details of the Enron scandal surfaced public outrage grew, calling for action, accountability and
consequences. Corporate governance began receiving renewed interest. Corporate governance is a
multi faceted subject that sets forth the rules and responsibilities of the relationship between the
corporation and its stakeholders (Cross Miller, 2012). This includes the company s officers and
management team, the board of directors, and the organizations shareholders.

Motif Of Water In Jamaica Kincaid s Annie John
Motif of Water in Annie John Oceans are essential for our environment since they produce more than
half of the oxygen in the atmosphere covering about seventy percent of the Earth. Without our vast
oceans, humankind would be unable to survive. In Annie John, by Jamaica Kincaid, utilizes water as a
motif to show the growth and develop of Annie, a young girl in the Caribbean. Learning how to
properly balance the values of the colonial world and the native Caribbean culture, Obeah, Annie

disapproved of them. Thus, she applies water to erase everything except any connection she feels in
the picture. Annie s actions help her release all her build up tension ultimately using water as a healing
mechanism to clean any confliction she has with the outside world. Serving as an excellent source of
healing Annie learns water also stimulates like a nurturing security. As a young child, Annie took
unique baths that the local Obeah woman in the town advises her to take. Thus, Annie notes, My
mother and I often took a bath together... it was a special bath in which the barks and flowers of many
different trees, together with all sorts of oils, were boiled in the same large caldron... We took these
baths after my mother had consulted with her obeah woman (14). Annie and her mother had special
intimate moments in taking natural baths that had barks and flowers which symbolize the peace and
comfort with nature. Since her mother valued the Obeah woman advice, the baths symbolized a
unique ritual between mother and child. The water showcases the mother s values that

What Is The Literary Value Of Harry Potter Dystopian Culture
Like most kids, I was dreaming of receiving an acceptance letter from Hogwarts to whisk me away
from our dreary world while gradually swallow the fact of being a muggle. Over the course of its
publication, Harry Potter series has gained enormous popularity among readers universally, not only
with children but with adults counterparts as well. As a result of its phenomenal success and
ubiquitous values in literature, numerous scholarly reviews and literary analysis have been conducted,
most frequently on the themes of love, death, and religions. As Colin suggests in The Literary Value of
Harry Potter Books, a closer insight of the book reviews the sophistication and mirrors the social

Advertisements And The Appeal Of Fear
Dionne Delgado Ms.Westmoreland Green ENGL 1321 02 April 22, 2016 Advertisements and the
Appeal to Fear Advertisements can be positive and negative in a person s day to day life.
Advertisements are all around us. Advertisements can be found on t.v., internet, magazines and on
billboards. Some of these advertisements help decide what people should spend money on. Those
advertisements give people so many different choices on what clothes and makeup people want to buy,
what different foods are out there to satisfy the different cravings people have or what exotic vacation
destination to take. The one advertisement that sticks out the most to me are the advertisements about
drinking and driving. Advertisers and Advertisements use the fear appeal to get these driver s attention
to stop and face the reality of what drinking and driving will do to themselves and to others. Drinking
and driving is a huge problem. When you are under the influence of alcohol you are putting yourself
and others at risk for injuries and even death. Budweiser created a commercial Simply Put with actress
Helen Mirren during the 2016 super bowl. Budweiser wanted to use this commercial to convey the
dangers of drinking and getting behind the wheel. During this commercial Helen Mirren said that she
denounces anyone who is willing to put their life or anyone s life in danger while under the influence

Ethics And Leadership Have Been Thought As Mutually...
Ethics and leadership have been thought as mutually reinforcing concepts. Leadership can be defined
as actions, which influence and direct the performance of others towards the achievement of
organizational and/or collective goals. Ethics, for its part, can be defined as a systematic attempt
through the use of reason to make sense of our individual and social moral experience in such a way
as determine the rules which ought to govern human conducts (Denhardt, 2014). Thus, to be a good
leader today, one must be sensitive to issues of social responsibility and ethical behavior and when
concerns arise be able to address it as failing to do so can have a negative impact on organization s
credibility and employees performance just to cite some. Ethical concerns In February, Texas
steelworkers were on strike against oil companies over unsafe working conditions after the negotiation
fail with Shell Oil Company. The workers complain about onerous overtime; unsafe staffing levels;
dangerous conditions the industry continues to ignore; the daily occurrences of fires, emissions, leaks
and explosions that threaten local communities without the industry doing much about it; the industry
s refusal to make opportunities for workers in the trade crafts; the flagrant contracting out that impacts
health and safety on the job; and the erosion of their workplace, where qualified and experienced
union workers are replaced by contractors when they leave or retire

Example Of A Discourse Community
Since the dawn of time that humans have reigned around the world, they have formed groups or
communities that share common goals or interest. John Swales (1990), a respectable professor of
linguistics at the University of Michigan, developed a list of characteristics to determine communities
or, as he calls it, a discourse community. He identifies these characteristics as all the discourse
communities has agreed upon common goals, mechanisms of intercommunication among its
members, provide information and feedback, possess one or more genres of communication,
distinguish vocabulary or lexis, and requirement for memberships (Swales, 1990, p. 1 5). The
International Game Developers Association (IGDA), falls into the category as a discourse community.
Founded in 1994, IGDA is a non profit professional association that collaborates with projects that
encompasses members from all fields of game development. They bring together developers to
improve their lives and prepare the next generation of developers. The IGDA is a professional
discourse community that defines all of Swales characteristic to be considered as a discourse
community. Swales (1990) Concept of Discourse Community commences with his point that a
discourse community has a set of common goals. The International Game Developers Association s
mission is to advance the careers and enhance the lives of game developers by connecting members
with their peers, promoting professional development, and advocating on

How Is Edmund Relevant In The Chronicles Of Narnia
While one can find many aspects of the movie as proofs for ritual theories, the theories surrounding
the concept of belief is also very much relevant within the movie The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion,
the Witch and the Wardrobe. In specific Richard Gombrich s theory of cognitive versus affective
beliefs. This theory highlights what an individual voices to be true (as in what he believes to be
true/important) in comparison to what their actions show to be true/important to the individual. This is
a particularly interesting theory and the manner that it implies to the movie in that it explains and
enhances the character of Edmund. Edmund is a crucial character like mentioned already, and the
choices he makes is what eventually changes circumstances

Benefits Of Abstinence Of Bringing Sex Education
Bringing Sex Education in Schools
The US teen pregnancy rate is at 72.2%, which is larger than any rate in Western European countries.
Sex education can solve the problem that we see, and possibly lower that rate. It can benefit kids by
informing them about everything involving sex instead of sheltering them from the truth. Abstinence
only education is the other option that is typically used, but creating a program to cover everything
and not exclude some children who have different beliefs is the overall goal. This program should be
offered for all students as a mandatory course because of the amount of information that is to be
gained by teaching about sex, relationships, protection, STD s, and sexual orientation.

way to teach kids, but sex education provides a more specialized learning for every student. Therefore

Anything that could injure me or cause any amount of pain whatsoever I avoid and learn to dislike,

Holden s Red Hunting Hat Analysis
On the departure of childhood innocence and on the brink of adulthood, J.D. Salinger s The Catcher in
the Rye centers around Holden Caufield, who is caught in the ambiguous limbo as a 1950 s teen
between the child and adult world. Stationed in a mental hospital, Holden tells a retrospective story
after his expulsion from Pencey Prep, a school teeming with phonies according to Holden. Holden
tells a journey of him navigating through New York City meeting old friends and acquaintances to
look for a way to preserve innocence, and to look for a remedy in his growing anxiety for his future in
the cruel, phony adult world. Throughout Holden s coming of age journey, Holden s red hunting hat is

Holden is outspoken about his anger and frustrations, but Holden is also a confused teen that is
apprehensive about people s view of him. When describing his hat, Holden subtly divulges his
insecurities when he says, It only cost me a buck. The way I wore it, I swung the old peak around to
the back very corny, I ll admit, but I liked it that way (18). Holden expresses that he has a particular
style of wearing the red hunting hat; he has his own unique and individual identity. However, Holden
knows that his corny and bizarre way of wearing his hat is unfashionable under societal norms.
Therefore, Holden is pressured into doubt and suppressed of his definitive character by the
superficiality and phoniness of adult society. Again, the red hunting hat manifests Holden s
ambivalence about his individuality and character as Holden puts on his red hunting hat after he knew

encountering a person he knows when he his donning his red hunting hat as he fears judgement and
criticism about his unusual sense of style and character. Internally, Holden is insecure and doubtful
about who he is in society so he is cautious in showing his red hunting hat to people. In a metaphorical

Analysis Of The Little Princess
Through being involved within the arts for most of my life, I have witnessed Shirley Temple clips of
her dancing skills. Observing and analyzing each movement as a child in elementary school, I enjoyed
her memorable dance performances. These clips I would watch in past dance classes made me
interested in watching The Little Princess with Shirley Temple. Knowing the triple threat, she once
was, I wanted to see her ability to sing and act in a film that I haven t seen her star in. The Little
Princess is about a young girl named Sara whose father was in the service as a captain in 1899.
Growing up in India with her father, Sara was in Europe when her father had to go back to war. Within
her emotional state, Sara had to stay in a privileged private school with supportive individuals to keep
her safe. Sara was told by her authority that her father died in the war. Sara was determined from the
moment she heard about her father s death that he truly wasn t dead. Her wealth dwindled after her
father s death because of the debt he had. Because of her determination and drive, she searched and
investigated local hospitals in hopes to find her father. When Sara found her father, he didn t know
who Sara was because of his condition. He quickly discovered that Sara was with him, ending in a
happy ending. Throughout the film, I enjoyed Shirley s positive character through her actions and
personality shown. Sara s character was genuine, caring, positive and happy throughout the film. For
example, Sara gave presents to her fellow girlfriends in the school on her birthday and would always
care for Beky s safety when she fell in the film. Because of these actions, her selfless manner was
contagious and effective to her characters personality. Sara was very positive that her father was alive,
regardless of a certain situation or someone who didn t believe her. This was evidently shown when
she found out for the first time of his death. I was shocked when Sara would go to the hospitals late at
night and ran from the police to find her father. I didn t understand why she thought her father was
dead when she only received one letter from him after he left. However, because of her determination,
I had faith that her father was

PE Investment Analysis
In the last decade, PE has emerged as a significant source of capital for funding infrastructure projects.
Traditionally, equity for infrastructure projects was typically contributed by the sponsors and
developers of the project. A major portion of the project investment was often obtained through debt
financing, which accounted for about 6o% 7o% of the total investment required. Non sponsor
investment has been largely in the form of debt, except in the case of public equity offerings. The rise
of PE investment has led to the availability of a new pool of capital for infrastructure projects, where
the need for capital is substantial. Unlike other external sources of funding, PE investors are active

proportion of investments in our sample consisted of single investor deals. The study of solely
financed and syndicated deals highlighted the main motivations for syndication. The average
investment amount in syndicated deals was higher than that of deals where there was only a single
investor. However, there were no significant differences in the state variables between sole and
syndicated deals. This showed that both sole and syndicated deals were taking place in similar
operating environments. If the motivation of syndication was to leverage the diverse expertise among
the investors with a view to reducing risk, then syndicated deals would have been expected in riskier
environments, for example in states where the level of corruption was higher or the PRI value was
lower. Since this has not been the case, we feel that capital pooling in order to fund larger projects has
been the main motivation for syndication, rather than the ability to assume a higher level of operating
environment risk. The overall characteristics of the operating environment also play an important role
in attracting PE investment. Regional analysis shows that the East had the lowest

University of Phoenix Organizational Culture
Organizational culture can be defined as the system of attitudes, beliefs and values that are collectively
expressed in support of organizational structure. Organizational culture is a pattern of shared basic
assumptions that dictate the behavior of individuals within an organization. Culture determines which
practices are appropriate and which are not, effectively developing standards, guidelines, and
expectations for individuals within an organization. Although they work hand in hand, there is a
definite distinction in the beliefs and the values that make up organizational culture. The beliefs of an
organization are assumptions of the way things are, while values are an assumption about the way
things should be. By that definition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the stock prices were inflated, the liquidity of the company was spread very thin. Through the
individual business ventures of these highly educated individuals, Enron took out loans and spread
their finances thin. Additionally, there was an intense culture of competition within Enron. Skilling
implemented an intense employee evaluation system (PRC 360 degree review) in which employees
were judged on the profits of their projects. The bottom 10% of employees according to this
evaluation were often fired or demoted. This created a state of individual paranoia at Enron in which
individuals, in order to keep their jobs, were forced into using shady accounting practices and not
worrying about the future considerations of a deal as long as it turned a short term profit. Because of
this intense culture of internal competition, employees at Enron (even the ones who felt they were
using unethical practices) were reluctant to speak up. The corporate culture made it hard for ethical
objections to be heard or taken seriously. In an employee s recollection of his experience at Enron it
was noted that saying things like This doesn t make sense was unofficially sanctioned ...I got the idea
that not many people actually knew what was going on, and asking questions would further show this
lack of knowledge. Furthermore, Enron s message about their values was demonstrated through the

Analyzing Epicurus s Letter To Meneoceus
Letter to Meneoceus
Epicurus views are the views of a hedonist; the only thing that is intrinsically good is pleasure. By
pleasure, Epicurus does not mean a sexual pleasure, but the absence of pain in the body and of trouble
in the soul (Epicurus, n.d., p. 3), which means that pleasure is the absence of pain, so removal of pain
equals pleasure. Epicurus believes that living a calm life is better than living a thrilling life. However,
a calm life would be boring and without purpose compared to a thrilling life. A thrilling life does not
necessarily mean creating excitement in everything you do, but living a meaningful life without being
too precarious to avoid pain. Epicurus believes that we should live a calm life to avoid pain and

In this scenario, the pain associated with the pleasure is worth it for millions of people worldwide, so
how could avoiding the pain create a better life? As Augustine believed, what is good is positive and
therefore it should be something to seek for throughout the life, despite the fact that it might create
painful situations. Epicurus would probably say, that being in love is painful due to the fact that one
would be in pain whenever one is apart from their loved one, but is the pain of missing someone
necessarily a bad thing? When we are painted pleasure, then, and then only, do we feel the need of
pleasure (Epicurus, n.d., p. 2), of course it can be painful to miss someone, but being in love and the
pleasure of having someone love one back could overcome the feeling of pain, because the feeling of
love is so much more pleasurable than painful. And even if one s heart gets broken, many people say
that it was worth it and that they would not do it over if they could. In this scenario, being in love, and
having one s heart broken, makes that person a wiser person, because that person has had a greater
experience compared to the person who has never been in love. If the misfortunate wise person were
better of than the prosperity fool, it would be contradicting to say that one should live a

The Era Of The Republic Essay
In the last decades of the Republic, the struggles between competing warlords with dynastic ambitions
spurred related changes in visual culture. One of the new institutions of this changed world was the
household of Gaius Octavianus, better known by his title of Augustus, and its supremacy. This resulted
in the promulgation of the notion that it was both an exemplum to be admired and imitated,
synonymous with the Roman state itself. In The Power of Images in the Age of Augustus, Paul Zanker
examines the role of images in the cultural program of Augustus, arguing that a new visual language
developed to express the ideals of the monarchy and to bolster the social changes desired by the new
government. For instance, in 35 BCE, public statues of living women, honorific portraits of Augustus
wife, Livia Drusilla, the first empress of Rome and his sister, Octavia, were initiated by Augustus and
dedicated by a senatus consultum. Sadly, these portraits are only known from Cassius Dio and their
original location of display in Rome is unknown. However, the very fact that the Senate had to
authorise such portraits by a special decree, suggests the unique nature of such public honours to
women.
Cassius Dio records that these women were correspondingly given both freedom from tutela and
sacrosanctity, an honour traditionally bequeathed to tribunes, which protected the women from
physical harm and verbal insult. Flory argues that while Octavia needed this sacrosanctity due to the

My Dance In Dance
The lights are on me and the other performers on stage. The crowd is cheering so loud the music can t
even be heard. Hearing them cheer made me push myself harder than I already was. I can hear the
crowd screaming my name and which made me feel confident in my dancing. The whole first floor of
the auditorium was filled with people shouting at their top of their lungs. Performing in front of a
crowd just fills me with adrenaline and makes me forget about the world. It s almost as if I m free
even though I have a choreography to follow.
Ever since I was a little kid I was always in love with the arts. I would always draw, color, and paint
something. My favorite class in elementary class was art and I wanted to be an artist at that time.. As
time went by I changed my mind after falling in love with the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: The
Curse of the Black Pearl. I wanted to be in a movie just like that. I kept dreaming of becoming an
actor but I didn t do anything. I was too shy to ever join the drama club in 5th grade and middle
school. When high school came along I decided to put my shyness to the side and take the drama class
because if I wanted to be an actor I had to take action.
After the first day of class I instantly fell in love with it and was glad I took the decision in taking that
class. I also joined the drama club and I fell in love with the arts more. Taking the drama classes and
joining the drama was the best decision I ever did and it made my high school

Contemporary Hippie Research Paper
The Contemporary Hippie byline We all heard the terms hippies, hips, or hipsters which happens to be
a counter culture group that started in the 60s. What is this kind of lifestyle and who are these people?
Well for starters contemporary hippies don t like any of those terms because they can be presumptuous
to them. What does it mean to be a hippie? For Serge Obuks, 20 with Latvian roots, it s a lifestyle in
which he can live free of any constraints opposite to what most people feel like these days. You re
probably wondering what this means? Well since 60 s culture is far behind us and the new mainstream
being hip hop and the internet, things have taken a new form for the hippie lifestyle.
Let us take a journey to the 60 s. Baby boomers are said to be the leaders of this new found culture.
Fighting at the time for social justice against the war in Vietnam spreading peace. Perhaps the most
notable line that came from all of this; Love Not War , keeping in mind that the group had also started
experiment with the newly discovered drug LSD(Acid) and MDMA. The efforts by such group led
them to acquiring the name of hippies by the public. Their gatherings were messy and often times
dirty, literally covered in filth from the lack of hygiene. The flower children, sub group ... Show more

Becoming A United States Citizen
Becoming a United States citizen is such a difficult task that many immigrants are crossing the border
illegally. Today, the naturalization process is a large controversial topic. To become a citizen one has
to go through a series of tests including topics about US government, language, and civics. One has to
be able to speak and understand English which can be extremely difficult as a second language.
Because it is so difficult to becoming a citizen or let alone enter a country with certain permissions,
immigrants are illegally crossing the border causing issues and tension with existing United States
citizens. Becoming a United States citizen should be easier because it would decrease illegal
immigration, decrease human trafficking, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once immigrants become citizens they ultimately benefit society for everyone by paying taxes and
serving others. Making the naturalization process easier would create jobs for immigrants and help
them to live legally in the US safely. Some oppose this option because they believe citizens would
begin to overpopulate. Actually, the only number that would increase would be the number of United
States citizens, not the number of immigrants overall. Making the citizenship process easier and
simpler would accommodate the immigrants by making them eligible for jobs and legal, steady
income with all the benefits of a United States citizen. Because of the inability to find legal labor as an
illegal immigrant, many turn to human trafficking as an occupation. As stated by Tsin Yen Koh, a
graduate student from Harvard, Tightening immigration policies and controls increases human
trafficking. It becomes more difficult for labor migrants to enter and work in the destination country
legally. (Koh). Koh is explaining in this article that if the policies on one entering the United States
along with citizenship were loosened, trafficking would not be such a major issue. Similarly, Marissa
Urgate wrote in her Journal of Trauma Practice as a result of the United States creating restrictions
against illegal immigrants, they engage in labor jobs such as prostitution and trafficking (Urgate).
Making it easier to become a citizen would decrease human

German Migration To Australia
History of Migration to Australia
Early settlement of Germans was mainly in South Australia and South Eastern Queensland.
There was significant migration during the gold rush in Victoria in the 1850s when approximately
10,000 German migrants came to work the in the gold fields.
Germans were also employed in many other roles including; in copper mines and smelters,
silversmithing, winemaking and in weaving woolen cloth.
The World Wars heavily impacted German migration to Australia.
At the beginning of the First World War Australian residents who were citizens of Germany, (as well
as those from Italy, Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria and Turkey) were declared as enemy aliens .
As well as suffering suspicion and aggression, Germans and

Police Brutality Of The Police
To serve and protect is a famous motto used by the police department, however sometimes it is the
police that we need protecting from. Communities have the right to feel safe, this is where the police
undertake the admirable job of protecting the communities form danger. Police must perform their job
no matter the race or gender of the people involved. Police must also actively practice the idea of
innocence until proven guilty. More and more cases of Police brutality have surfaced among the media
greatly concerning the people, who is to protect them from the protectors? Even the innocent police
officers are now becoming fearful for their lives with people protesting by killing police officers. Blue
Lights by Jorja Smith was written about modern day street violence, but the song ultimately creates
and strengthens negative stigma s surrounding the police and corruption.
There have been countless cases of police brutality throughout the united states. United States has
history of excessive force being used in situations where it was not necessary, sometimes even
resulting in the loss of lives. Eric Garner was killed by police on July 17, 2014 due to excessive force
(marcus n. 54 58). Eric Garner cried out to the officer who had him in a chokehold I can t breathe
eleven times before his heart gave out (marcus n. 55). Police brutality does exist, it is not a thing of the
past, Eric Garners death in 2014 shows just how recent these incidents are. A completely

  • 2. Tarrega The Black Death Analysis In the text The Black Death and its Consequences for the Jewish Community in Tarrega, the authors note that the discovery of communal burial sites in Tarrega (ca. 2007) now provides archeological evidence for the documentary records of the mass murder of Jews in July, 1348. Long before the discovery of the six communal grave sites, testimonies such as that of Hayyim Galipapa (1310 1380) have provided textual records for the mass killing of Jews during the spread of the plague. The authors argue that a consequence of the plague epidemic was the increase attacks on social minorities, Jews in particular stood out as a powerful minority group which many of these attacks focused around. As such, the Jewish community suffered disproportionately ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Sergeant Pepper s Lonely Hearts Club Band Essay On June 1st, 1967, The Beatles released Sergeant Pepper s Lonely Hearts Club Band, an album that would not have been created without the influence of psychedelic drugs. These psychedelic drugs created the energy of the album because of the relationship LSD brought to The Beatles. Before November of 1966, the band had been divided in half with the people who took LSD (George Harrison and John Lennon) and the ones who did not (Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr). In November of 1966, Paul McCartney agreed to try LSD. This agreement closed the gap between the band. The mended division between the band led to a collective consciousness between the band members and filled McCartney with a new sense of possibility, both of which were very important the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The record follows the idea of The Beatles being Sergeant Pepper s band, as some sort of alter ego, and has a beginning, middle, and end. This allowed the band to present themselves as something new and fresh by adopting the persona of a fake group (Gould 385). The concept album model set by The Beatles has been used over the past four decades by many other groups. This was not the only way that the album was revolutionary, though, the diverse compositions that allowed the album to be a cross between the uniformed brass bands of Lancashire and the ornately named acid rock groups of California caused a massive explosion of aesthetics (Gould 418). The contrast of the instruments and compositions used from song to song in the album, namely the soft ambience of imported paisley carpets and a haze of smoldering incense in George Harrison s Indian influenced song, Within You Without You vs the 40 piece orchestra in A Day in the Life , set the tone for many albums to come (Gould 387). The effect Sergeant Pepper s Lonely Hearts Club Band had on the music industry and the people of the 1960s was undeniably huge and it would not have been possible without the influence of psychedelic ... • 4. Nuclear Weapons And Its Effects On The United States Tensions between Iran and other major world powers, such as the United States, Great Britain, and France, have been running high ever since the Iranians began investing in nuclear weaponry back in the 1990 s. The global community has attempted to force Iran to stop its production of such weapons with economic sanctions. These sanctions have crippled Iran s economy but have not stopped the manufacturing of nuclear weapons. The nuclear proliferation in Iran is not necessarily a threat to US society rather it is a threat to an ideal held by the US and other nations. By having nuclear weapons, Iran has the capability to destroy any nation it chooses. This kind of power paired with the track record of support for past militant groups, has caused Iran to be an issue. The Iran Nuclear Deal will help to solve the issue but has a few faults when outlining exactly how this deal will stay in tact for fifteen years without Iran reneging on its promises. Nuclear proliferation is a problem that can affect the US indirectly. The US and a few other states, is known to have nuclear weapons. These states are strong and trusted by most of the global community. It is not okay for a state like Iran to develop these weapons because they could easily fall into the wrong hands. The country of Iran is known for supporting terrorist groups in the past and this could easily become a reality today (Bruno). There is another possibility that Iran could attack Israel with nuclear force, due to long unrest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. John Doe Case When operating a business with a union contract, miscommunication and lack of training can lead to grievances. In the scenario given in the assignment, a lack of understanding of the union contract led to a potential problem that must be addressed quickly, honestly, and fairly. When the manager with no union experience was hired, training should have been conducted immediately on the rules and regulations of the union contract. The manager should have read and understood the company obligations under the contract before considering any raises, promotions, or changes. In addition, if this was his first time doing evaluations and raises, they should have been overseen by his boss or by the HR department to ensure that there was no problem with them. To ensure that this situation does not occur again, HR should conduct training for all managers on union rules and regulations as part of the on boarding process. A test on the rules and regulations of the current contract should be administered to verify understanding so the manager does not have the I didn t know defense. • 6. Carnival Corporation Irene Ruggieri Campaign Critique Assignment #1 Carnival Corporation Carnival Corporation, like many other companies, has had its ups and downs throughout the years of its existence. Their first cruise ship, the TSS Mardi Gras, ran aground on a sandbar during its inaugural voyage. (Business Insider, p.1) In 1998 one of the company s cruise ships had a fire in the laundry room that led to the ship losing its course. However, 2012 and 2013 were especially hard for the company due to two incidents that caused the company to lose both revenue and the confidence of their shareholders and customers. In their 2012 Annual report, the company states revenues declined $410 million primarily as a result of the direct and indirect consequences of the Costa Concordia incident . • 7. The African Exhibit At The Art Institute Of Chicago The African exhibit at the Art Institute of Chicago is difficult to find. At the end of a shotgun wing consisting of Japanese, Korean, and other East Asian art, and beyond Native American art, sits the one room gallery for African art. Here, most of the objects could be considered fashions, tools, or domestic objects. There is a bizarre absence of chronology, and the objects seem too similar to speak for Africa at large as if everything on display arose from the same historical situation and from the same experimental sampling pool. Among this ad hoc assortment of characters, one would find a chest. This pattern continues on all sides of the box with the metalwork even making up the hasp on the front and the hinges of the box s lid on the plain, back panel. Even the interior radiates with ornamentation. The coppery leather lining of the jewelry box is painted with reds, greens, purples, and yellows. The geometry of the pattern is vastly different than the exterior. It hosts a field of angular forms adjoined to their neighbors with repetitious outlines of various colors. Some of these forms contain even more detail. One can pick out latticing, hatching, cross hatching, and stippling within these shapes. The detail work creates a contrast between interior and exterior, as the artistic production between the spaces is vastly different. It seems like these boxes are made by group effort. Functionally, the jewelry box needs further examination for any comprehension. Its bulky size makes sense in conjunction with the many surrounding jewelry pieces, which are elaborate, heavily ornamented, and chunky. Because the back of the chest was plain and so unlike the rest, it must have been hidden from sight. This could very well mean that the box was fixed in location, like furniture. Similarly, by understanding that jewelry boxes were used as dowry or sometimes as a gift from bride to groom, one can also infer the centrality of the box to the culture. The allegations ranged from faulty revenue reporting and falsifying financial records, to the shredding and destruction of financial documents (Patsuris, 2002). Most notably, are the cases involving Enron and Arthur Andersen. The allegations of the Enron scandal went public in October 2001. They included, hiding debt and boosting profits to the tune of more than one billion dollars. First, we will review the definitions of corporate governance, business ethics and corporate responsibility. Finally, we will review proactive recommendations for provisions to key titles of the Sarbanes Oxley Act. These provisions will accommodate the growing public demand for ethical and social responsibility. As details of the Enron scandal surfaced public outrage grew, calling for action, accountability and consequences. Corporate governance began receiving renewed interest. Thus, Annie notes, My mother and I often took a bath together... it was a special bath in which the barks and flowers of many different trees, together with all sorts of oils, were boiled in the same large caldron... We took these baths after my mother had consulted with her obeah woman (14). Advertisements And The Appeal Of Fear Dionne Delgado Ms.Westmoreland Green ENGL 1321 02 April 22, 2016 Advertisements and the Appeal to Fear Advertisements can be positive and negative in a person s day to day life. Advertisements are all around us. Advertisements can be found on t.v., internet, magazines and on billboards. Some of these advertisements help decide what people should spend money on. Those advertisements give people so many different choices on what clothes and makeup people want to buy, what different foods are out there to satisfy the different cravings people have or what exotic vacation destination to take. The one advertisement that sticks out the most to me are the advertisements about drinking and driving. Advertisers and Advertisements use the fear appeal to get these driver s attention to stop and face the reality of what drinking and driving will do to themselves and to others. Drinking and driving is a huge problem. When you are under the influence of alcohol you are putting yourself and others at risk for injuries and even death. Budweiser created a commercial Simply Put with actress Helen Mirren during the 2016 super bowl. Budweiser wanted to use this commercial to convey the dangers of drinking and getting behind the wheel. • 15. Ethics And Leadership Have Been Thought As Mutually... Ethics and leadership have been thought as mutually reinforcing concepts. Leadership can be defined as actions, which influence and direct the performance of others towards the achievement of organizational and/or collective goals. Ethics, for its part, can be defined as a systematic attempt through the use of reason to make sense of our individual and social moral experience in such a way as determine the rules which ought to govern human conducts (Denhardt, 2014). • 16. Example Of A Discourse Community Since the dawn of time that humans have reigned around the world, they have formed groups or communities that share common goals or interest. John Swales (1990), a respectable professor of linguistics at the University of Michigan, developed a list of characteristics to determine communities or, as he calls it, a discourse community. He identifies these characteristics as all the discourse communities has agreed upon common goals, mechanisms of intercommunication among its members, provide information and feedback, possess one or more genres of communication, distinguish vocabulary or lexis, and requirement for memberships (Swales, 1990, p. 1 5). The International Game Developers Association (IGDA), falls into the category as a discourse community. Founded in 1994, IGDA is a non profit professional association that collaborates with projects that encompasses members from all fields of game development. They bring together developers to improve their lives and prepare the next generation of developers. The IGDA is a professional discourse community that defines all of Swales characteristic to be considered as a discourse community. This theory highlights what an individual voices to be true (as in what he believes to be true/important) in comparison to what their actions show to be true/important to the individual. Sex education can solve the problem that we see, and possibly lower that rate. It can benefit kids by informing them about everything involving sex instead of sheltering them from the truth. Abstinence only education is the other option that is typically used, but creating a program to cover everything and not exclude some children who have different beliefs is the overall goal. Stationed in a mental hospital, Holden tells a retrospective story after his expulsion from Pencey Prep, a school teeming with phonies according to Holden. Holden tells a journey of him navigating through New York City meeting old friends and acquaintances to look for a way to preserve innocence, and to look for a remedy in his growing anxiety for his future in the cruel, phony adult world. • 21. Analysis Of The Little Princess Through being involved within the arts for most of my life, I have witnessed Shirley Temple clips of her dancing skills. Observing and analyzing each movement as a child in elementary school, I enjoyed her memorable dance performances. These clips I would watch in past dance classes made me interested in watching The Little Princess with Shirley Temple. Knowing the triple threat, she once was, I wanted to see her ability to sing and act in a film that I haven t seen her star in. The Little Princess is about a young girl named Sara whose father was in the service as a captain in 1899. Growing up in India with her father, Sara was in Europe when her father had to go back to war. Within her emotional state, Sara had to stay in a privileged private school with supportive individuals to keep her safe. Sara was told by her authority that her father died in the war. Sara was determined from the moment she heard about her father s death that he truly wasn t dead. Her wealth dwindled after her father s death because of the debt he had. Because of her determination and drive, she searched and investigated local hospitals in hopes to find her father. When Sara found her father, he didn t know who Sara was because of his condition. He quickly discovered that Sara was with him, ending in a happy ending. Throughout the film, I enjoyed Shirley s positive character through her actions and personality shown. Sara s character was genuine, caring, positive and happy throughout the film. For example, Sara gave presents to her fellow girlfriends in the school on her birthday and would always care for Beky s safety when she fell in the film. Because of these actions, her selfless manner was contagious and effective to her characters personality. Sara was very positive that her father was alive, regardless of a certain situation or someone who didn t believe her. This was evidently shown when she found out for the first time of his death. I was shocked when Sara would go to the hospitals late at night and ran from the police to find her father. I didn t understand why she thought her father was dead when she only received one letter from him after he left. However, because of her determination, I had faith that her father was ... Traditionally, equity for infrastructure projects was typically contributed by the sponsors and developers of the project. A major portion of the project investment was often obtained through debt financing, which accounted for about 6o% 7o% of the total investment required. Non sponsor investment has been largely in the form of debt, except in the case of public equity offerings. An inference from this is that governments should not only create conditions to facilitate foreign PE investment, but they should also take bold steps to develop the domestic PE industry. The presence of a strong domestic PE industry would be a catalyst to attract further foreign PE investment. A large proportion of investments in our sample consisted of single investor deals. The study of solely financed and syndicated deals highlighted the main motivations for syndication. The average investment amount in syndicated deals was higher than that of deals where there was only a single investor. However, there were no significant differences in the state variables between sole and syndicated deals. This showed that both sole and syndicated deals were taking place in similar operating environments. If the motivation of syndication was to leverage the diverse expertise among the investors with a view to reducing risk, then syndicated deals would have been expected in riskier environments, for example in states where the level of corruption was higher or the PRI value was lower. Since this has not been the case, we feel that capital pooling in order to fund larger projects has been the main motivation for syndication, rather than the ability to assume a higher level of operating environment risk. The overall characteristics of the operating environment also play an important role in attracting PE investment. Regional analysis shows that the East had the lowest ... By pleasure, Epicurus does not mean a sexual pleasure, but the absence of pain in the body and of trouble in the soul (Epicurus, n.d., p. 3), which means that pleasure is the absence of pain, so removal of pain equals pleasure. Epicurus believes that living a calm life is better than living a thrilling life. However, a calm life would be boring and without purpose compared to a thrilling life. In this scenario, the pain associated with the pleasure is worth it for millions of people worldwide, so how could avoiding the pain create a better life? As Augustine believed, what is good is positive and therefore it should be something to seek for throughout the life, despite the fact that it might create painful situations. Epicurus would probably say, that being in love is painful due to the fact that one would be in pain whenever one is apart from their loved one, but is the pain of missing someone necessarily a bad thing? When we are painted pleasure, then, and then only, do we feel the need of pleasure (Epicurus, n.d., p. 2), of course it can be painful to miss someone, but being in love and the pleasure of having someone love one back could overcome the feeling of pain, because the feeling of love is so much more pleasurable than painful. And even if one s heart gets broken, many people say that it was worth it and that they would not do it over if they could. In this scenario, being in love, and having one s heart broken, makes that person a wiser person, because that person has had a greater experience compared to the person who has never been in love. • 26. The Era Of The Republic Essay In the last decades of the Republic, the struggles between competing warlords with dynastic ambitions spurred related changes in visual culture. One of the new institutions of this changed world was the household of Gaius Octavianus, better known by his title of Augustus, and its supremacy. This resulted in the promulgation of the notion that it was both an exemplum to be admired and imitated, synonymous with the Roman state itself. In The Power of Images in the Age of Augustus, Paul Zanker examines the role of images in the cultural program of Augustus, arguing that a new visual language developed to express the ideals of the monarchy and to bolster the social changes desired by the new government. For instance, in 35 BCE, public statues of living women, honorific portraits of Augustus wife, Livia Drusilla, the first empress of Rome and his sister, Octavia, were initiated by Augustus and dedicated by a senatus consultum. Sadly, these portraits are only known from Cassius Dio and their original location of display in Rome is unknown. However, the very fact that the Senate had to authorise such portraits by a special decree, suggests the unique nature of such public honours to women. Cassius Dio records that these women were correspondingly given both freedom from tutela and sacrosanctity, an honour traditionally bequeathed to tribunes, which protected the women from physical harm and verbal insult. Flory argues that while Octavia needed this sacrosanctity due to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
