Wife Of Bath Essay
Writing an essay on the topic "Wife of Bath" can be quite challenging for several reasons. Firstly,
it requires a deep understanding of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, particularly the character of the
Wife of Bath and her prologue and tale. This involves not just a surface-level comprehension of
the text but also an ability to analyze the complexities of her character, her motivations, and the
themes she embodies.
Additionally, crafting an essay on this topic demands scholarly research to contextualize the
Wife of Bath within the medieval period, exploring issues such as gender roles, marriage, power
dynamics, and social hierarchy. This necessitates delving into historical and literary sources to
provide a well-rounded analysis.
Moreover, interpreting the Wife of Bath's character and her tale often involves grappling with
ambiguity and multiple interpretations. Students may find it challenging to navigate through
various critical perspectives and formulate their own argument while engaging with existing
scholarly discourse.
Furthermore, writing an effective essay requires strong analytical and writing skills to articulate
complex ideas coherently and persuasively. It involves structuring arguments, providing textual
evidence, and drawing connections between different aspects of the text and its historical
context.
Overall, composing an essay on the "Wife of Bath" requires not only a deep understanding of the
text and its context but also critical thinking skills and effective writing abilities.

Margaret Atwood s Surfacing Essay
Margaret Atwood s Surfacing
Throughout the book the narrator constantly intertwines the past and present as
though it is side by side. Atwood shows this in the opening sentence I can t believe
I m on this road again . The use of the adjective again reveals the narrator has been
in this place in an earlier life. The narrator seems to repress a lot of her past and
continuously contradicts herself, which at times confuses the reader as we can not
tell whether she is talking about her past or her present and whether she regards it as
home as she says Now were on home ground foreign territory .
This links in with one of the key divisions in the story between the
Americans and the Canadians that is portrayed throughout ... Show more content on

This links in with when the narrator says I never identified it as mine and all the
time it was in me I felt like an incubator , as a mother she should not be feeling this
way suggesting she lacks the emotional intelligence as a nurturer and a lover, which
is ironic as later we find she never actually gave birth to this child.
Another key point of the narrators division from her emotion is when she refers to her
child as it . This impersonal singular pronoun reiterates the protagonist s lack of
sentiment. This also links in with chapter 3 as the narrator reveals her relationship
with Joe as predominantly sexual cool he called it, was the way I took off my
clothes and put them on again later very smoothly as if I wee feeling no emotion
reiterating her lack of emotion/affection.
In chapter three we see the conflict between the two languages of
French and English starting to arise. On page twenty we see the first utterance
occurring when the waitress in the restaurants utters
Amburger impersonating the protagonist s English dialect. The narrator then states
This is border country . In this simple sentence it is clear to see the notion of division
twenty protagonist holds. The protagonist seems to be somewhat paranoid as to
whether she belongs in this place.
Again on page t we see the narrator being placed in a paradoxical position when she
thinks if you live in a place you should speak the language. But this isn t where I
Henry Martyn Robert s Rules Of Order
Henry Martyn Robert, author of Robert s Rules of Order was born in 1837 and
died in 1923, and a Brigadier General in the Union Army during the Civil War. In
1863 he was asked to chair a local town meeting at a church in New Bedford,
Massachusetts but didn t know how to preside. He assumed the assembly would
behave, but the meeting was a disaster, lasted 14 hours and really didn t accomplish
anything. General Robert was very frustrated and vowed to never again attend
another meeting until he knew more about Parliamentary Law. He researched a
small book on the subject, and found some rules for DELIBERATE ASSEMBLIES
with four or five motions according to rank, two or three could not be debated, and
some amended. He traveled around the country collecting Parliamentary information
and saw different interpretations of Parliamentary Law in various organizations.

In 1875, his wife convinced him to write Part 2 for the benefit of persons with no
experience in a meeting and in 1876 finally had these parts published separately.
Both sold extremely well and refined the parliamentary rules for DELIBERATE
ASSEMBLIES known today as Robert s Rules of Order. He accomplished the
major groundwork for establishing the order, rules, and procedures of meetings
before he died in 1923. He identified the types of motions of Main, Subsidiary,
Privileged, and Incidental explaining their order of importance. Also, wrote Rules of
Chairmanship with what is or is not debatable, which motions require a second and
which do not determine what sort of majority is needed (simple or 2/3), defined a
quorum, created guidelines for proper meeting conduct, and wanted standard

Hip Hop s Negative Influence On Teen Decision-Making
Hip Hop changes lives, but not the way you are told to believe. The media false
advertises that music is the main stimulus for bad decision making and ultimately
for violence. Teens are influenced by many different factors with each factor
dictating a percentage of their decision making. Majority of the time these factors
are unavoidable. Factors such as environment, family, and music are key to the
teens decision making. Hip hop is believed to have a huge negative impact on
teens decision making and we are to blame for this false allegation. In the 1980s
inner cities were filled with the notorious crack epidemic and they experienced
poverty on a larger scale than ever before. President Ronald Reagan cut down on
social services benefiting people in low socioeconomic classes, primarily black
Americans(Sebhatu). During these hard times those people... Show more content on

Their music consisted of police brutality, gun violence, hardships and overall insight
from a perspective America was unfamiliar with. The group received large
criticism by the press and most notably the government as they were credited for
the massive violence in inner cities. That same mindset has carried over carried over
to modern media today. For generations the impact that hip hop has on the youth has
been over exaggerated by the media. Hip hop has been used as a scapegoat, instead
of identifying and fixing the real problems such as drugs, gangs, and the environment
itself. Kids are more influenced by their families and environment then they are by
rap music. Even if a person listens to music that portrays violent crimes and overall
violent lifestyles, there is no guarantee they will go out in their neighborhood and
commit a violent crime. Society itself does not give teens enough credit, and
ultimately sells them short. For a lot of kids in the inner city, hip hop is a stimulus for

Taking a Look at Food Allergies
Food, food is something that we as human beings live off of. But not everybody is
as fortunate as others, nowadays food allergies occur in 1 out of every 13 children.
This indicates fifteen plus million people have food allergies. This epidemic poses
a threat to many citizens that live with food allergies because of the incorrect
labeling, distribution and safety of food products. The research provided is to
show one, what food allergies are and how they affect daily life of those who live
with food allergies. Food allergies are extremely important and educating people
about food allergies will hopefully quick start the progress to find a cure.
Food allergies have been reported but not looked into until 1976, when the public
became aware of the immune response to certain foods. The data collected showed
that certain food s caused reactions in people, which provoked further research on
such topics. Food allergy awareness came about in 1976 through newspapers and
novels, because of reported civilians dying from ingesting food that they were
allergic too. A huge propaganda movement took place worldwide to show the
dangers of food allergies but was shortly subsided. The first Epi Pen was launched
and registered in the United States in 1980; this was an amazing new start because
every three minutes, a food allergy reaction sends someone to the emergency
department ( Food Allergy Facts and Statistics FAAN ).
What exactly are food allergies, food allergies are a result of the
Infidelity Is Not That Big Of A Deal
Infidelity is a tough subject to talk about among people throughout the world. It is
commonly known as a violation of trust between married couples and can be
considered a touchy subject. As examined in the article by Emily Barrow there are
often cases of adultery related to people who are considered happy. These people
are faithful for decades but one day they decide to cross a line that they have never
crossed before and risk everything they have in their relationship. Although some
people have a hard time explaining their reasoning and often time s relationships
end throughout the article there are several points to defend infidelity and explain
how it is not that big of a deal. My personal opinion is that it should be considered
unacceptable not because of any religious matters but out of genuine respect and
love for your partner you should keep the promise you made when you were
married. Within this paper I will investigate the concept of infidelity and why
people decide to cheat on their significant other when everything is perfect at home
and when times are tough. Through the use of several economic concepts learned
throughout the course I will apply them to my research and establish a final
conclusion that will aid me in weather I agree or disagree with the authors analysis.
Infidelity is the largest opprobrium around the world. It is well know that adultery
will more than often lead to divorce yet Esther Perel a well known psychotherapist,
states that divorce is
Learning Goals For Students Is A Taxing Task, But It Is...
Planning a curriculum that meets the need of students can be a taxing task, but it is
necessary for student success. Creating a cohesive unit entails breaking down the
standards and developing essential questions that will drive student learning and
understanding. In addition to breaking down the standards, it is important to set clear
learninggoals for students so they are able to accomplish the learning set in the
standards. The best way to set clear learning goals for students is to use the
Backwards Planning Model and be clear on the standards that will be taught. Carol
Ann Tomlinson and Jay McTighe (2006) believe the deliberate use of the backward
design for planning courses, units, and individual lessons results in more appropriate
assessments and more purposeful teaching (p. 27). When we as teachers know where
our students are going, we can convey that information to them in a way that meets
their learning needs. A clear understanding of the standards brought on by backwards
planning will lead to clear learning goals for students.
Importance of Identifying and Communicating Learning Goals In order for students
to gain the learning needed to be successful in the classroom, learning goals must be
translated in a way that is clear and transferable. Students learn best when they know
where they are going. McTighe (2010) explains the most successful teaching begins
with clarity about important learning outcomes and about the evidence that will show

The world of transportation is constantly evolving. Innovators all over the world are
trying to find to create new forms of transportation that is fast and efficient. One
innovator, Elon Musk, has created the Hyperloop; a new idea for transportation of
passengers and cargo. The Hyperloop travels the country within tubes allowing
passengers and cargo to enter and exit at specific locations throughout the country. It
travels faster than the speed of an airplane at the price of a bus ticket. The one
million dollar donation provided by the Board of Education should fund the creation
of a Hyperloop station in Delphos.

Centers of transportation tend to be popular spots for business. A popular phrase
used by the Hyperloop team is, When cities become metro stops, regions will
flourish. Since businesses would have quick and easy access to the rest of the
nation, they would be able to buy/sell products and services easily with anyone in
the nation. This will encourage many businesses to move to Delphos creating a
large amount of jobs for people in the area. Also, with a large amount of
businesses, the people of Delphos will have an increase in their income due to
businesses competing for skilled workers in the area. Not only will the station help
new business and factories, it will also help the many farmers sell their crops to new
markets across the nation. When a break from work is needed, anyone who can
afford a bus ticket can get on the Hyperloop and be almost anywhere in the nation
within hours.
One of the concerns with spending money on this project are the Hyperloop has
not come into to full design yet. While this may be true, many tests have been
performed in order to bring the project to reality. The motor system has already
undergone successful tests and full system tests are to be conducted within the next
few weeks. The Hyperloop is expected to become fully active in 2021; the scale of
the Hyperloop system is then expected to grow rapidly throughout the rest of the
country. With the project projected to be very successful, the Hyperloop system
should span nationwide by the year of

Acceptable Use Policy To fully explain the acceptable use policy would mean to
begin from the beginning, the user domain. The user domain is the employee or
people within an organization who is granted access to the information system for the
organization. There are roles and tasks, responsibility, and accountability that go into
an acceptable use policy for the user domain. Within the user domain is the access of
LAN to Wan, web surfing, and internet. LAN to Wan is the activities between LAN to

It would be best to apply antivirus programs especially on emails and email

come into the organization. The ability to block outbound traffic that may be
accessed during normal work procedures. Also to have some type of file transfer or
monitoring on unknown files types received by employees. These programs will all
assist in maintaining security and integrity for the organization s sensitive
information (Kim amp; Solomon, 2012). Web surfing on company time would be
controlled by acknowledging and restricting which sites an employee will be able to
access during company time. There will be type of filter that will determine if the
website is allowed to be access and scanned to determine if there are any dangerous
or unknown files that can hurt the organization s system. With the internet part of the
AUP would be to have a setting where if the employee decides to access internet
sites not work related then they could be timed on the amount of time they can
continue to view the sites. For instance, if an employee wanted to do some shopping
on their break there would normally be a restriction to the shopping internet sites.
However, there could be a monitoring program installed where the user would enter
their username and password and it would give them an hour, forty five minutes or
thirty minutes of viewing
Essay On The Character Of Pearl In Nathaniel Hawthorne
s...
Hawthorne, the author of Scarlet Letter, characterizes innocent looking Pearl, who
plays as a wolf in the sheep s skin that brings adversities to her surroundings, by
using her actions, thoughts, and speeches, and he shapes a vivacious Pearl in order
to form a contrast with the depressing Puritan society. Mentioning Pearl as worthy
to have been brought forth in Eden , imbued with a spell of infinite variety , and
comparing Pearl s voice to the sweet warble sound of birds, Hawthorne first brought
an immaculate Pearl into the readers sight (Chap.6). However, her behaviors do not
correspond to her looking, but characterize her as a demon. She would grow possibly
terrible when things go against her, and would snatch up stones to fling at others.
The Oedipus Complex And The Electra Complex
Sigmund Freud s declaration that neuroses...can be derived only from disturbances in
sexual life (94), challenged the prevailing societal attitudes of his day regarding
mental health, childhood development, and human sexuality. Freud explored the
inner life of children developing into adulthood by reviving mythological stories of
incest, brutality, and obsessive self love: The Oedipus Complexand the Electra
Complex, both variations on the theme of destructive love, murdering the same sex
parent and marrying the opposite parent, and narcissism, destructive love of self,
vividly allegorized the perils of the journey to adulthood. Freud approached treating
neuroses with a new method he termed psychoanalysis. From the psychoanalytic point
of view, the expectation of dysfunction is assumed, in varying degrees, as virtually all
individuals experience at least minimal trauma during their development. Freud
acknowledged that the very process of growing apart from a parent, notably the
mother whose body conceived and sustained the dependent child, is an inherently
anxious process, poignantly observing Anxiety in children is nothing more than an
expression of the fact that they are feeling the loss of the person they love (101).
Maturation not only involves vulnerability, it also requires it, as it is built into the
process of differentiation.
As the child grows, he relates himself to the external world through different organs
or erotogenic zones (oral, anal, and genital).
Flight In The Song Of Solomon
The Search for Meaning The Song of Solomon, written by Toni Morrison, elaborates
on the life of a boy: Milkman, as he navigates through oppression and self identity
and ultimately comes to terms with himself, his family, and friends. One prevalent
theme that is heavily implemented in the novel is flight. Each character possesses
their own internal obstacles and come up with their own solutions in order to fly .
Some succeed while others become lost in their own complications. Although the
initial perception of flight is the symbolization of freedom, a deeper look reveals that
it represents personal forgiveness and acceptance. The meaning of flight is a
malleable term that shifts from a rigid definition to a broader terminology. The initial

It expresses the initial apathy and boredom of his world that play into his mindset
and actions. Boredom, which had begun as a mild infection now took him over
completely. No activity seemed worth the doing, no conversation worth having
(90). Milkman loses his purpose in life and perceives society as tedious. There
seems to be no escape for him and he starts to explore his options to escape
temporarily. Hagar raised the knife again...The paralyzed woman and the frozen
man. At the thirtieth second Milkman knew he had won...turned away from her
wide, dark, pleading, hollow eyes (130). One toxic escape of Milkman s consists of
using Hagar sexually in order to satisfy himself. This ultimately leads to her
obsessiveness with him and her downfall. Milkman has little regard for himself and
even less regard for others. He continues to escape as he attempts to integrate himself
into HonorГ© Island where the richer African American community resides.
Materialism and indifference are heavy influencers in the early days of Milkman as
he attempts to liberate himself from racism and personal battles. Flight appears to do
more harm than good through an initial
The Movie Pocahontas Was Released By Disney Essay
The movie Pocahontas was released by Disney in 1995, and its sequel Pocahontas
II: Journey to a New World three years later. Together the movies depict, to a certain
extent, the story of Native American princess , Pocahontas. I will watch both movies
in their entirety, paying close attention to detail, and take note of how exactly the
story is portrayed. Afterwards, I will research as much as I can about Pocahontasand
compare it to what is presented in the Disney film. I will then asses why I think,
exactly, the filmmakers left out or changed what they did.
Due to the fact that I am dealing with a story that involves English colonization, a
situation that I know for a fact involved genocide and oppression of the natives, I
suspect that most of my findings will lead me to believe that Disney changed the
story in a way that makes it as innocent as possible.
There are a few historical inaccuracies in the movie that I am already aware of and
plan on questioning. Why doesn t the movie show more death? Why is her age not
accurate in the movie? Why is Pocahontas portrayed as an only child instead of a
sibling of 19 other children?
I will search the databases EBSCOhost and JStor with the following key words:
Pocahontas, John Smith, Jamestown, and Powhatan .... And comb through the results
to find which articles offer the most insightful perspectives.

Comparing Themes in Charlotte and Ruth Hall Essay
Sentimental or Social Themes in Charlotte and Ruth Hall
The subject matter of early American women writers has been criticized in the past,
but the messages these authors sent women and society cannot be denied. Susanna
Rowson and Fanny Fern came from two different time periods in American history,
but their impact on society is similar. In both cases, the women experienced great
success as writers during their time. Their popularity shows how their messages were
transferred to many people of their time. By exploring the themes of these novels, a
better understanding of females in society can be gained. The themes of womanhood
and the issues associated with being female in early America will be detailed through
specific problems. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The very man she entrusts her safety to abandons her, thus leaving the heroine
penniless in an unknown land of strangers, unable to care for herself. For Charlotte,
this transition from child to woman was her downfall, and this shift occurs when she
runs away with her young, uniformed officer. She becomes a fallen woman (787),
according to Cathy N. Davidson, in the sense that she engages in intimacies intended
only for marriage in the 18th Century respectable women. Montraville, on the other
hand, prevails; he goes on to marry well. For him, manhood has to do with being
financially responsible, but he could have a fling along the way. The consequences
were unimportant when he pursued Charlotte. When he sees with his own eyes what
comes of Charlotte during her funeral procession, he then realize
that his perception was wrong. Though Charlotte had no fortune, her previous
commitment to virtue is rich. Womanhood was miserable for this young woman. She
faces tough decisions, and she does not make the best choices when forced to do so
on her own.
In a sense, womanhood can also represent inferiority in Charlotte and Ruth. Consider
that Rowson s work was considered a sentimental novel, and this title has not been
given to any male counterpart s writing. Davidson notes that sentimental writing is
associated with popularity , emotionality , religiosity , and domesticity , all of which
defined female literature as possessing a certain

Research Paper On Barclays Bank
Abstract
Security in information technology is a paramount feature which impacts on user
usage and efficiency. Security in organization such as Barclays bank is crucial since
it does protect the details of the clients as well assets of the bank. Services such as
electronic funds transfer, automated teller machines and mobile banking have
brought new security challenges. Security measures are an attempt to reduce risk as
well losses due to muggings, unauthorized users, insider manipulation, fraudulent card
use and many more (Hess, 2010).
Barclays bank started its operations in 1690 in London from a few connected
individuals who were influential in the start of the leading international financial
institutions. The bank had grown tremendously over years since its conversion to
public limited company. It has spread its operations worldwide and offers a range of
services to many financial clients.
When you look at security systems, fraud and interference occur mainly due to
failure in several issues. In banks where they are no controls at all, insecurity
becomes a major problem. Another feature is where there is assumption that controls
are effective yet there are not. Controls may also lack amendment which may prove
to be outdated by emerging technologies and advancements. Some controls may be
applied for compliance purpose, they do not have fundamentals. Financial institutions
have been facing attack from their own employees (Wilding, 2006). These could be

In other words, if you simply BUILD it, they will NOT automatically come. Thus, the
shocking reality for countless Internet entrepreneurs is that website sales success

1. Lack of a STATIC or Motionless Perception.
2. Superbly Authoritative Incoming Backlinks.

From the sides, Genesis opted for a more conservative approach, eschewing the
dramatic lines and body sculpting found in such Hyundai models as the Sonata. That

draw the perfect male body. An individual is said to have a beautiful face when it
has a ratio of 1.6180339, or approximately 1.62. Facial symmetry can be measured
by dividing the length of a face by the width of the widest part of the face; the
closer quotient is 1.62 the more beautiful a face is according to the golden ratio. The
golden ratio can also be used on various other parts of the body including; arm length,
and height. Facial characteristics also play a role in determining an individual s
attractiveness. The color smoothness of an individuals skinhas an impact on their...

Throughout history males have sought after muscularity, leanness, and youthfulness.
During the 1900 s, the ideal body type for a male was thin and athletic. These
characteristics have become much more dramatic over the last few decades. The
hyper masculine images portrayed by celebrities such as, Dwayne Johnson (The

physiques. Other characteristics such as, height, masculinity, and assertiveness are

The Treatment of Phobias Essay
Everyone in life has fears, it s a natural way our brains process certain objects or
situations that may be dangerous. Common fears may be heights or spiders; some
would rationally go out of their way to avoid these, but this is quite different from
having a phobia. A phobia is an irrational distress with a particular object or concept
/idea. Although fears are well known now, they do not have to disrupt the lives of
those who are living them. Throughout the essay there will be three different
treatments with three different phobias in ways to cure a phobia; the first is a trauma
focused treatment approach for travel phobia, assessment and treatment for childhood
phobias, and hypnosis in facilitating clinical treatment of injections.... Show more

When introduced to in vivo exposure the patients showed an increase of PTSD
symptoms (Handley, Salkovskis, Ehlers, 2008). When performing the study 125
people received TF CBT, and the remaining 59 received EMDR + in vivo exposure .
In results there was a clear sign of reduction in mild travel anxiety with up to 7.3
sessions. Although, there were found that one treatment would be more beneficial
than the other in terms of reduction of symptoms of anxiety, depression, PTSD.
Overall the signs of Travel Phobia and anxiety were reduced in both methods of
treatments giving the researchers plenty of evidence for being successful in a trauma
focused treatment plan.
The study case of children phobia is not like others present before it, this case
suggests that that to decrease a phobia is should be multi method, multi informant,
and developmentally sensitive. Another aspect that differs from others is that it will
assess the home living of children as well as their caregivers. Their study examined
predictors of treatment outcome for 106 phobic and anxious youth (aged 6 to 17
years) and their parents. The treatment included trials such as: diagnostic
interviewing, fear survey schedules, anxiety questionnaires and behavioral
observations. Taking methods from the DSM IV C there are separate questionnaires
for both parent and child on different phobia types (animal, injection, and
environment) on a scale from one to eight of interference. In traditional
Personal Statement In Population Biology
I have started my research with applied probability in theoretical population

postdoctoral work at the Emory University I started working in a completely
different topic of developing HIV vaccine trial design and survival analysis. Soon
afterwards during the early days of my Assistant Professorship at Georgia State
University, I got exposed to an exciting field of researchmicroarray data analysis. I
found it to be fascinating to deal with thousands of genes at the same time. I wrote
my first NSF proposal and was successful in obtaining the fund. From then on, I have

This paper is not only an important one computationally, but also has the potential
of modifying clinical protocol. In Datta et al. (BMC Bioinformatics, 2017) we
developed a novel statistical approach for identification of the master regulator
transcription factor using a permutation based test with a concordant statistic.
Additionally, we have a recently accepted on a meta analysis paper which combines
the results of many experiments on thousands of genes and combines the results to
provide a FDR control strategy. We have contributed significantly in developing
methods for reverse engineering gene, protein, lipid interaction network through
association scores based on partial least squared regression model. Additionally, we
developed nonparametric tests to perform differential network analysis in multiple
experimental conditions using RNA Seq count data and lipidomics data from mass

involved in developing methodology to identifying differentially expressed genes
using single cell RNA sequencing data. scRNA Seq data has tremendous opportunity

What Role Does Cd4 Play In The Human Immune System
The human immune system plays a major role in every person s body. It protects
the body against foreign particles that could lead to diseases, such as bacteria and
viruses. A white blood cell protein, called CD4, play a key role in the human immune
system. Without the help of CD4 proteins, bodies would not be able to receive the
signal to activate the body s immune response against foreign contaminants entering
the body. CD4 proteins are found in white blood cells, which play a very important
role in the human immune system. CD4 is also a glycoprotein. They can be found on
the surface of immune cells, such as T helper cells, that serve as receptors. They are
receptors for one of the most commonly known infections, HIVAIDS. CD4 cells, also
known as T helper cells, are an essential part of the human immune system. When a
foreign particle enters the body, CD4 cells send signals to other types of immune
cells, which trigger them to then destroy the infectious particle. If a body s CD4
cell count is reduced, the body is left vulnerable to many diseases and infections that
it would otherwise have been able to protect itself against. CD4 is also a

Cytokines are cell signaling molecules that aid cell to cell communication in immune
responses and stimulate the movement of cells towards sites of inflammation,
infection, and trauma. Researchers at UC Davis have found that early exposure to
inflammatory cytokines can paralyze CD4 cells. This CD4 paralysis could play a
role in preventing autoimmunity. Autoimmunity is misdirected immune responses
that can cause the immune system to go awry and attack the body itself. By shutting
down CD4 cells, it prevented an autoimmune response. This research shows the
potential to paralyze the immune system to prevent autoimmunity, or to adjust and
teach it to accept transplanted cells and
The Symbolism Of The Thing In The Forest
At first blush, The Thing in the Forest may seem like a simple story about two
girls imaginations running wild, whereas, upon deeper reading and analyzation, it
reveals itself to be a story about the horrors of war from the eyes of a child. The
theme of The Thing in the Forest is that war destroys literally everything in its path,
one of the most horrifying being the destruction of innocence. The symbolism of the
Worm, the setting of the story and characterization of Alys all support this.
Symbolism plays a very large role in the story and defining the theme. The most
obvious of the symbols in the story is the eldritch horror the two main characters
come across in the woods. Later in the story, it is referred to as the Worm, or the

The story is set during WWII, most likely during or around the Blitz. The girls are
sent to the countryside in an attempt to shield them from the effects of the war. The
setting is pivotal to the story. Had the story been set in any other setting, it would
completely change the story and the theme. Setting it during WWII is important
because it is recognizable to nearly everyone in the Western world, and generally
agreed upon as one of the worst wars in history. The location is also very important
because being in the United Kingdom means that Penny and Primrose are in the
thick of things. Had it been set in the United States, there would be no reason to
send them away, as there was little threat to the continental US. In addition, dragons
and more specifically, the kind of worm in the story are more common in European
culture and mythology in comparison to other cultures. Other cultures have very
different dragons or very few dragons in the cultural lore. A micro setting like the
forest is also symbolically important as previously mentioned. The current small
scale social atmosphere during the time that the girls are sent away is also very
important. They have been separated from their parents, most likely slept and ate
poorly, and are likely very stressed and anxious. This is significant in regards to
Penny and Primrose seeing the Worm. The atmosphere immediately preceding them
seeing the Worm would be quite

Resource Conservation Service. This area is defined by its rounded mountains
and foothills as well as its mixed forest of northern hardwoods, fir and spruce. High
gradient streams flow into swamps and lakes in the steep valleys. These
characteristics create a unique ecosystem that provides many services for people
and wildlife. Land features in this area are generally fairly steep to very steep with a
range in elevation from
1,000 to 4,000 feet above sea level. The rivers in this area are almost all classified
as National Wild and Scenic Rivers and eventually flow into the Hudson River or
Lake Champaign. The water surface waters in this area are considered of excellent

Deoxygenated Blood Differences
The vena cava is divided into two, they are the inferior and superior vena cava. De
oxygenated blood travels through superior vena cava and inferior vena cava (or the
coronial sinus). These are the large vein that return deoxygenated blood back from
the upper and lower part of the body to heart. The deoxygenated blood means that
the blood has very low oxygen because the tissues in the body have used up the
oxygen in the blood making the blood to turn darker instead of bright red.
The superior vena cava receives deoxygenated blood from the neck, upper limb and
the head, while the inferior vena cava receives blood from the lower torso and the
legs. The blood is then send to the heart.

Eating at Restaurants
Going out to eat should always be a pleasurable experience. One goes out to eat at a
restaurant for several reasons including not wanting to cook, to share an outing with
a friend or family member, or to celebrate a special occasion. When going out to eat,
there are three distinct criteria that one must look at in order to determine if a
restaurant does or does not meet a patron s expectations. These criteria include the
menu, quality of food, and the price of the food. On a recent trip to visit a Mexican
restaurant, Mi Tierra, where I had never been before, I applied these three criteria to
determine if I would make a return visit to this establishment. One of the first things
that I looked at, besides the restaurant s dГѓ cor, where there was much to be desired,
was the restaurant s culinary offerings. Like many Mexican restaurants, the first
thing that is brought to our table is a basket of tortilla chips and a side of salsa. I
would not have given this Mexican restaurant staple a second thought except for the
mention in the menu that the first basket of chips is complimentary and any
subsequent basket would be charged at $1.50, which I found particularly peculiar
since no Mexican restaurant I have ever been to has this exception. While I perused
the menu, I noticed that it was chockfull of Mexican staples tacos, burritos,
enchiladas, and chiles rellenos most with the standard side of rice and beans. In
addition to be able to order these items individually or as part of
Harriet Jacobs Essay
My master had power and low on his side; I had determined will. There is might in

standards of
society (97). Harriet Jacobs life revolved around slavery from birth to death. Jacobs
was a
mother of two with determination and insight to make choices to change the way of
life for
her children. Harriet Jacobs was the first African Americanwomen to have her slave
narrative
published retelling her life story exposing the years she spent escaping slavery and
the latter
helping others escape (Andrews 2). The African American race experienced much
intolerance,
especially the women, but Harriet fought back and never gave up.
Harriet, born in the fall of 1813 in North Carolina, spent all of her early life in slave
hood. She did not fully realize that she was a slave until she was six and her first
owner, Margret
Horniblow, passed away and she was given to her niece Mary Matilda Norcom
(Jacobs 11). This
was when her true struggle began because Mary was not old enough to own Harriet
so Mary s
father Dr. James Norcom became Harriet s de facto master. Dr. Norcom sexually
abused Harriet
and this information remained secret until much later in Harriet s life (Andrews 1).
Harriet had
two children, a boy named Joseph and a girl named Louisa, by a white attorney
named Samuel
Tredwell Sawyer (Smith 144). When Harriet was twenty she could no longer take the

Stereotypes In The Simpson

people who are Lisa, Marge, Homer, Bart, as well as Maggie. The show occurs in a

The Simpsons and the element brings forth a sense of self reference, intertextuality,
as well as audience awareness. Since its inception, the television tends to become

I Think Ktm Dirt Bikes Are Better Than Yamaha Dirt Bike
I think KTM dirt bikes are better than Yamaha dirt bikes. KTM might not sell as
many in the United States compared to Yamaha, but if you look at an international
race you will see that 90% of the athletes ride KTMs. The KTM is built in Austria,
where the Yamahas are built in Japan. Both companies build both track and trail
bikes, and two strokes and four strokes. KTMs are famous for their crazy powerfrom
their two stroke line. Yamaha is known for producing good, reliable four stroke
bikes. KTM was founded back in 1934 by Hans Trunkenpolz but didn t start large
production and sales of motorcycles until 1981. Yamaha was founded in 1955 by a

The KTM also comes equipped with a self adjusting hydraulic clutch that works
amazing, the clutch is very smooth and powerful. Now compare it to the Yamaha s

The KTM comes stock with billet hubs, these are amazing hubs that are super
smooth rolling and relatively low maintenance. The reason that I like the KTM
better than the Yamaha is because I have both brand bikes. I ride the KTM the
most because I like the way it feels and the massive amount of power behind it. It is
a fast, nimble bike great for both motocross and enduro. I have also worked on
both bikes and can say that the KTM is far easier to work on. The Yamaha is still a
good bike, but the KTM is just better in my opinion. The Yamaha is kind of an old
bike now; they haven t changed the frame or the engine since 2006 when they did
a whole makeover to the bike. The suspension has had some tuning in the recent
years, they upgraded to SSS suspension and added some wider foot pegs. The
biggest thing that they upgraded for this year were the graphics that were looking
kind of old. Some people will argue that the Yamaha is a bit more reliable than the
KTM is, and I will have to agree with that. Since the Yamaha is an older bike, they
have some of the bugs worked out of it and the
The Alcoholic Republic

ways of life: new living conditions, new skills to be learned, and new land to
explore and settle. Relations with the natives provided food and basic skill sets,
and it also paved the way for new colonists arriving in such a foreign land.
However, life for colonists coming to settle America was no vacation. Depending
on your family s background and where you decided to settle, daily life was an
adventure. In Virginia, rapscallions, who had never worked a day in their life,

Lower classes binged on cheap liquor as a sign of independence from the upper

based on certain personal characteristics. These anxieties depend solely on both the
level of motivation for achievement and the level of their aspirations. Many
Americans drank previously to feel a sense of camaraderie with their fellow grogs.
Those with low motivations had less confidence in their ability to reach targets

Americans started to realize their vitality and that liquor provided neither
happiness for the individual nor a stable society. Temperance leaders used a few
techniques to persuade people to quit drinking as well. They advocated religious

the other hand, they also showed people that drinking was not only a source of that

said it loud enough so the whole class heard me. They were so shocked that I read so
much in so little time. I was on a roll and I didn t want to stop. I had read more
books than anyone else in my class and even in my entire
The Trade Industry During The Post Confederation Era
From an important ally in the fur trade industry to an oppressed nation occupying
desired lands, the value of First Nations people suffered a significant decline, from the
white Canadian s perspective, in the nineteenth century. This transformation reached a
critical low during the post Confederation era with the introduction of legislation
aimed towards further oppressing the Indian . Of such legislation, the most
distinguished and impactful was the act entitled An Act to amend and consolidate the
laws respecting Indians, more commonly identified as the Indian Act. Introduced in
Canadain 1876, the Indian Act was a consolidation of pre existing legislation that
reflected the Canadian government s primary goal of assimilation. As the self
appointed fiduciary duty of the Canadian government to protect and civilize First
Nationsmembers, the Act imposed the first classification of Indian status on the First
Nations people of Canada. The Act also implemented the process of enfranchisement
which encouraged and/or forced First Nations members to abandon their status and
traditional way of life to become fully functioning members of Canadian society. Yet,
despite the government s honourable intentions, the Indian Act promoted gender
based discrimination towards the women of Canada s First Nations communities,
resulting in a loss of status, status rights, and identity for generations of women. This
essay will explore the notion of fiduciary duty, will provide an overview of
Analysis Of Summer Of The Seventeenth Doll
Summer of the Seventeenth Doll
Through the development of characterisation, Lawler s text acts as a mirror for an
emerging society. Whilst the play encompasses many significant themes relevant
to an Australian 1950 s society, the disillusionment of growing old is a concept
which is addressed through characters Roo and Olive, who evidently find their
discoveries both confronting and provocative. Lawler demonstrates reluctance to
grow old through Roo, Olive s love interest who has been consistently travelling to
Melbourne for the lay off season every 5 months with his friend, Barney. Roo a
dominant, masculine cane cutter who after seventeen years is reluctant to address
that he has aged significantly, is adamant to believe that he still possesses the same
strength and endurance that he once did. It appears that he is blinded by the
excitement of the lay off season to accept that seventeen years later, he is not the
same person that he once was. Roo s disillusion is notable in Act 3 Scene 1 when
he demonstrates a defensive tone when responding Nobody tells me I m old. I m as
good as a man now than I ever was , when confronted by Emma. Through Roo s
distinctive voice, Roo s reluctance to accept that he has aged is significant in
understanding Roo s response to his unwanted discovery.
Similarly, Lawler s character Olive mirrors an identical disillusion to her lover. As
Olive is evident in her distaste towards marriage and her determination to maintain the
lay off, her
As a Designer
I must say that I was a little less than enthralled about receiving a project, which
required me to hunt down and interrogate an established designer to the point of
annoyance. After reading the circulated example and seeing that, the author Chris
Metcalf, started with the same viewpoint. I began to be swayed to the same train of
thought, which had enlightened Chris. A sudden and drastic change in my thoughts
leads me to see that this is, hopefully, my final year as a student designer. The final
year, in which I can ask the questions, delve into, what is commonly believed to be,
general knowledge within the design field.
Immediately I sought to find a designer whom I could interview. Making a list of
who was in the immediate area ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Or possibly it was the following sentence ( ...As designers we influence the way
people interact with our products... ) as this one sentence made me realise I am the
quiet little voice that tells the user to hold the product like this or tilt it that way or
put the powder here. The intrinsic little conscience of a product is my thoughts
and aspirations for the product. These followed through from my thoughts through
my pencil into the final prototype and finally embedded in every one of product
units manufactured. The product may not be a direct extension of me but perhaps
more closely a child of personal progressions and growing pains as a designer. My
thoughts on this topic lead me down a very long and winding path where I
eventually end up realising. Designers have a lot of power in how a product is used
and interacted with by users. Everyone now knows after watching that one movie
with great power comes great responsibility .
Joe s viewpoint on working is almost a complete flip in thought, complexity and
word count. Learn the game to bend the rules . This seemed simple enough at the
time but now that I have thought about it some more I realise I would like to ask
how far into the grey one can go with the bending of the rules . There are always
question left unanswered and next time I will ask a designer this question I will
weigh his opinion up against my own. Which is? I personally have no problem with
that thought especially if it
Examples Of Hardship Billie Joe
OUT OF THE DUST A hardship billie joe s father went through is he loses his wife
to a pail of kerosene. A hardship that billie joe went through is that billie joe s
friend moves to california to get away from the dust. There is a lot more of
hardships in this book with billie joe and her father.these things would make them
suffer and grief because they are very close. The first hardship is that Billie joe s
mom goes out side yelling for her husband when billie joe through the kerosene out
of the door and the kerosene burnt her because she was already on fire and billie
joe was trying to pat her mom down. Billie joe s hands and her mom was scorched
from the burning kerosene. They had to take her in the living room and set up a cot for
In Today’S World, We Have A Huge Database That We
All Refer
In today s world, we have a huge database that we all refer to as the internet. So
many things can be found on the internet such as how to walk your dog or how to
fix your broken TV. There are several networks on the internet that many teenagers
use to communicate with each other or to simply talk about their day. These
networks are known as social media networks, like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.
On many of these social media networks, there are many issues involving the privacy
of their users. Occasionally, users may find that someone has hacked their account
and is posting false information or that somebody is trying to catfish them. The term
catfish can be defined as a person who uses someone else s identity, or creates their...

Gonchar states, Three quarters said they approved of the government s tracking
phone records of Americans suspected of terrorist activity. Nearly the same number
approved of the United States monitoring the Internet activities of people living in
foreign countries (Gonchar 6). Based on another article published on a website titled
Monthly Review, Lauren Regan talks about some ways on how the government could
surveillance electronic communications. Email messages can be intercepted and
then reformatted to be sent to the intended recipient or someone else altogether ,
Regan explained. With this being said, Lee Rainie and Mary Madden wrote an
article designed to display some of the feedback from their surveys they conducted
to several Americans. In the survey Americans are divided in their concerns about
government surveillance of digital communications , 17% of Americans said they
are very concerned about government surveillance of Americans data and electronic
communication; 35% say they are somewhat concerned ; 33% say they are not very
concerned and 13% say they are not at all concerned about the surveillance (Rainie
/ Madden 4). These surveys do show that the majority of the survey takers feel that
their privacy is being invaded by government surveillance but there is no possible
way that we can determine that the statistics are accurate because Rainie and Madden
did not specify what group of Americans took part in this
Should Gun Laws Provide More Safety In Schools
Should gun laws get changed and schools provide more safety for their kids? My
topic is important because I think if people would read this and listen to what I
have to say about why there should be stricter gun laws and schools should provide
more safety for kids that there would be a change in some things. First off I will
explain why schools should have more protection. One thing that could change is if
we had security at the doors of school. I know having security might cost a lot but
there are retired vets out there that would probably do it for free if it means to keep
our kids safe.
Why do we need stricter gun laws and for schools to provide more safety for their
kids? Why we need stricter gun laws is because guns are getting ... Show more

My opinion on some gun laws is that they need to be changed. In Indiana there is
no license required to carry a rifle or shot gun which is pretty dumb in my opinion.
I think you should have to have a license to carry it and a license for hunting. If
your not a hunter or a police officer or someone who works in like the police force
you should not be able to have any big guns like that. I also feel like you should be
21 before you can get a gun like that. In the article Indiana gun laws: What you need
to know states that there is a red flag law and only 5 states California, Connecticut,
Oregon, Washington and Indiana use it. The law is meant to temporary strict
someone s access to guns en they re a danger to themselves or others. All states
should have the red flag law, then maybe just maybe these people who are out here
that harm themselves will get their guns taken until they learn how to act
Barrio Boy Short Story
Barrio Boy, New Directions, and Ready For Marcos What drives people to
undertake missions? For example, Ernesto wanted to learn english, go to school,
and not give up so Ernesto came to America to go to school, learn english, and not
give up. Annie Johnson did not give up and Annie made her own business and
without this business Annie would not have money and would not be able to handle
her childrens. Monica had more responsibilities to do because Monica wanted a
little brother. Individuals are driven to undertake missions because for example one
of the motivation of the first story was to learn english and go to school and be
successful, another motivation was to make money to support a family, and the last
motivation was that someone wanted a little brother. The first story I chose out of
all the three stories that I chose was Barrio Boy by Ernesto Galarza. This story
relates to my thesis statement because Ernesto wanted to learn english and go to
school so he came to America from Mexicowith his mother. The first thing that
Ernesto did to success was that he emigrated to America from Mexico with his
mother. Then, he went to school in America because he wanted to learn english. For
example, the evidence in paragraph three it states up to this point the adventure of
enrolling me in school had been carefully rehearsed . Also, in paragraph three it says
they assured us that there was always a person who could speak spanish . Another,
evidence in paragraph 14 it
Essay on The Complaint Letter
Service is the most important aspect when it comes to handling a hotel. A hotel s
main objective is to provide the best service and tend to all of the guests needs and
requirements. If there is no service then there would be no business. When running a
business, the costumer is always placed first. Poor services can results in a complaint
from a guest. But that complaint can be used to better the business in the future.
There are many issues that Mr. Metz should be concerned with when it comes to
running the ATMI hotel. It is the general manager s job to make sure the guests are
being pampered and taken cared of. The most apparent issue that the guests; Dr.
Hankins and his wife had was the lack of cleanliness in the room. A hotel s... Show

Hankins did not even want to speak with the manager; he just wanted a room.
Further poor customer service was displayed when the operator did not tend to Dr.
Hankins needs, and forcefully insisted his opinion that Dr. Hankins should talk to his
manager. Mr. Metz needs to review the rules of how to properly deal with the guests
and their requirements to the employees. Aside from the operator s lack of
responsibility, the manager did not show any professional behaviour towards the
guests. After listening to Dr. Hankins problem, the night managerdid not approach
him with a resolution as he promised. As a result of inadequate service and
unprofessional behaviour, the Hankins wasted their time in waiting for a solution. An
additional problematic area that should be looked into is the way the members in the
staff treat each other. When Dr. Hankins brought the predicament up with the
receptionist, the receptionist went and yelled at his/her co worker in front of the
guests. This surely shows how poorly behaved the receptionist have conducted him
/herself. It was not solved in a mannerly order and for that reason alone, is a problem.
The evidence in the letter is credible because Dr. Hankins certainly did testify the
problems that have occurred during his stay at the hotel. Dr. Hankins presented and
expressed himself rationally from beginning to end of the letter. In the letter, he did
not sound angry nor did he sound like he wanted compensation for his bad
Marketing Communication Paper
Part A:
The marketing communication message I chose for this assignment is a magazine
advertisement for brown rice with sweet potato flavored Triscuit crackers. This
colorful magazine advertisement contains an image of the product box in the
bottom right hand corner with brown rice, a sweet potato cut open and a small
visual of a wheat stalk placed thoughtfully within the space. The box is open and
depicts these healthy foods spilling out of it. There is also an image of an
attractive rustic plate and on it the crackers made into various bite size appetizers.
One has cheese and a small piece of an herb, while one has a soft cheese with a
slice of grape tomato, and another has a piece of cheese and prosciutto. The
background looks like a chalkboard and written in white chalk is the advertisement s
headline:

This is specific, measurable and has a specific time tied to it. This would include the
same print advertisement in a variety of magazines that focuses on this target market.
The timing of the advertisements would be within a three month period. This direct
objective would allow the marketing team for this product to determine if the
marketing communications accomplished their objective. The second marketing
communications objective of this print advertisement is: Increase traffic of
www.triscuit.com by at least 10% over the next quarter. The goal of this marketing
communications message is to increase interest and sales of the one of the newest
additions to the Nabisco product line. In a time of technology when so many people
have the internet at their fingertips, with cell phones, driving traffic to the website for
more information is a good start to potential new sales and then hopefully many repeat

  • 1. Wife Of Bath Essay Writing an essay on the topic "Wife of Bath" can be quite challenging for several reasons. Firstly, it requires a deep understanding of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, particularly the character of the Wife of Bath and her prologue and tale. This involves not just a surface-level comprehension of the text but also an ability to analyze the complexities of her character, her motivations, and the themes she embodies. Additionally, crafting an essay on this topic demands scholarly research to contextualize the Wife of Bath within the medieval period, exploring issues such as gender roles, marriage, power dynamics, and social hierarchy. This necessitates delving into historical and literary sources to provide a well-rounded analysis. Moreover, interpreting the Wife of Bath's character and her tale often involves grappling with ambiguity and multiple interpretations. Students may find it challenging to navigate through various critical perspectives and formulate their own argument while engaging with existing scholarly discourse. • 2. Margaret Atwood s Surfacing Essay Margaret Atwood s Surfacing Throughout the book the narrator constantly intertwines the past and present as though it is side by side. Atwood shows this in the opening sentence I can t believe I m on this road again . The use of the adjective again reveals the narrator has been in this place in an earlier life. The narrator seems to repress a lot of her past and continuously contradicts herself, which at times confuses the reader as we can not tell whether she is talking about her past or her present and whether she regards it as home as she says Now were on home ground foreign territory . This links in with one of the key divisions in the story between the Americans and the Canadians that is portrayed throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This links in with when the narrator says I never identified it as mine and all the time it was in me I felt like an incubator , as a mother she should not be feeling this way suggesting she lacks the emotional intelligence as a nurturer and a lover, which is ironic as later we find she never actually gave birth to this child. Another key point of the narrators division from her emotion is when she refers to her child as it . This impersonal singular pronoun reiterates the protagonist s lack of sentiment. This also links in with chapter 3 as the narrator reveals her relationship with Joe as predominantly sexual cool he called it, was the way I took off my clothes and put them on again later very smoothly as if I wee feeling no emotion reiterating her lack of emotion/affection. In chapter three we see the conflict between the two languages of French and English starting to arise. On page twenty we see the first utterance occurring when the waitress in the restaurants utters Amburger impersonating the protagonist s English dialect. The narrator then states This is border country . In this simple sentence it is clear to see the notion of division twenty protagonist holds. The protagonist seems to be somewhat paranoid as to whether she belongs in this place. Again on page t we see the narrator being placed in a paradoxical position when she thinks if you live in a place you should speak the language. But this isn t where I

In 1863 he was asked to chair a local town meeting at a church in New Bedford, Massachusetts but didn t know how to preside. He assumed the assembly would behave, but the meeting was a disaster, lasted 14 hours and really didn t accomplish anything. General Robert was very frustrated and vowed to never again attend another meeting until he knew more about Parliamentary Law. He researched a small book on the subject, and found some rules for DELIBERATE ASSEMBLIES with four or five motions according to rank, two or three could not be debated, and some amended. He traveled around the country collecting Parliamentary information and saw different interpretations of Parliamentary Law in various organizations. **Robert saw the need for a uniform set of rules to enable civic minded people to belong to... He accomplished the major groundwork for establishing the order, rules, and procedures of meetings before he died in 1923. He identified the types of motions of Main, Subsidiary, Privileged, and Incidental explaining their order of importance. Also, wrote Rules of Chairmanship with what is or is not debatable, which motions require a second and which do not determine what sort of majority is needed (simple or 2/3), defined a quorum, created guidelines for proper meeting conduct, and wanted standard Parliamentary Rules from every group, organization, city, and
  • 4. Hip Hop s Negative Influence On Teen Decision-Making Hip Hop changes lives, but not the way you are told to believe. The media false advertises that music is the main stimulus for bad decision making and ultimately for violence. Teens are influenced by many different factors with each factor dictating a percentage of their decision making. Majority of the time these factors are unavoidable. Factors such as environment, family, and music are key to the teens decision making. Hip hop is believed to have a huge negative impact on teens decision making and we are to blame for this false allegation. In the 1980s inner cities were filled with the notorious crack epidemic and they experienced poverty on a larger scale than ever before. President Ronald Reagan cut down on social services benefiting people in low socioeconomic classes, primarily black Americans(Sebhatu). During these hard times those people... The group received large criticism by the press and most notably the government as they were credited for the massive violence in inner cities. That same mindset has carried over carried over to modern media today. For generations the impact that hip hop has on the youth has been over exaggerated by the media. Hip hop has been used as a scapegoat, instead of identifying and fixing the real problems such as drugs, gangs, and the environment itself. Kids are more influenced by their families and environment then they are by rap music. Even if a person listens to music that portrays violent crimes and overall violent lifestyles, there is no guarantee they will go out in their neighborhood and commit a violent crime. Society itself does not give teens enough credit, and ultimately sells them short. For a lot of kids in the inner city, hip hop is a stimulus for what they see or do in

But not everybody is as fortunate as others, nowadays food allergies occur in 1 out of every 13 children. This indicates fifteen plus million people have food allergies. This epidemic poses a threat to many citizens that live with food allergies because of the incorrect labeling, distribution and safety of food products. The research provided is to show one, what food allergies are and how they affect daily life of those who live with food allergies. Food allergies are extremely important and educating people about food allergies will hopefully quick start the progress to find a cure. Food allergies have been reported but not looked into until 1976, when the public became aware of the immune response to certain foods. The data collected showed that certain food s caused reactions in people, which provoked further research on such topics. Food allergy awareness came about in 1976 through newspapers and novels, because of reported civilians dying from ingesting food that they were allergic too. A huge propaganda movement took place worldwide to show the dangers of food allergies but was shortly subsided. The first Epi Pen was launched and registered in the United States in 1980; this was an amazing new start because every three minutes, a food allergy reaction sends someone to the emergency department ( Food Allergy Facts and Statistics FAAN ). It is commonly known as a violation of trust between married couples and can be considered a touchy subject. As examined in the article by Emily Barrow there are often cases of adultery related to people who are considered happy. These people are faithful for decades but one day they decide to cross a line that they have never crossed before and risk everything they have in their relationship. Although some people have a hard time explaining their reasoning and often time s relationships end throughout the article there are several points to defend infidelity and explain how it is not that big of a deal. My personal opinion is that it should be considered unacceptable not because of any religious matters but out of genuine respect and love for your partner you should keep the promise you made when you were married. Within this paper I will investigate the concept of infidelity and why people decide to cheat on their significant other when everything is perfect at home and when times are tough. Through the use of several economic concepts learned throughout the course I will apply them to my research and establish a final conclusion that will aid me in weather I agree or disagree with the authors analysis. Infidelity is the largest opprobrium around the world. It is well know that adultery will more than often lead to divorce yet Esther Perel a well known psychotherapist, states that divorce is
  • 8. Learning Goals For Students Is A Taxing Task, But It Is... Planning a curriculum that meets the need of students can be a taxing task, but it is necessary for student success. Creating a cohesive unit entails breaking down the standards and developing essential questions that will drive student learning and understanding. In addition to breaking down the standards, it is important to set clear learninggoals for students so they are able to accomplish the learning set in the standards. The best way to set clear learning goals for students is to use the Backwards Planning Model and be clear on the standards that will be taught. Carol Ann Tomlinson and Jay McTighe (2006) believe the deliberate use of the backward design for planning courses, units, and individual lessons results in more appropriate assessments and more purposeful teaching (p. 27). When we as teachers know where our students are going, we can convey that information to them in a way that meets their learning needs. A clear understanding of the standards brought on by backwards planning will lead to clear learning goals for students. Importance of Identifying and Communicating Learning Goals In order for students to gain the learning needed to be successful in the classroom, learning goals must be translated in a way that is clear and transferable. Students learn best when they know where they are going. McTighe (2010) explains the most successful teaching begins with clarity about important learning outcomes and about the evidence that will show

This will encourage many businesses to move to Delphos creating a large amount of jobs for people in the area. Also, with a large amount of businesses, the people of Delphos will have an increase in their income due to businesses competing for skilled workers in the area. The motor system has already undergone successful tests and full system tests are to be conducted within the next few weeks. The Hyperloop is expected to become fully active in 2021; the scale of the Hyperloop system is then expected to grow rapidly throughout the rest of the country. Hawthorne, the author of Scarlet Letter, characterizes innocent looking Pearl, who plays as a wolf in the sheep s skin that brings adversities to her surroundings, by using her actions, thoughts, and speeches, and he shapes a vivacious Pearl in order to form a contrast with the depressing Puritan society. Mentioning Pearl as worthy to have been brought forth in Eden , imbued with a spell of infinite variety , and comparing Pearl s voice to the sweet warble sound of birds, Hawthorne first brought an immaculate Pearl into the readers sight (Chap.6). However, her behaviors do not correspond to her looking, but characterize her as a demon. She would grow possibly terrible when things go against her, and would snatch up stones to fling at others.
  • 12. The Oedipus Complex And The Electra Complex Sigmund Freud s declaration that neuroses...can be derived only from disturbances in sexual life (94), challenged the prevailing societal attitudes of his day regarding mental health, childhood development, and human sexuality. Freud explored the inner life of children developing into adulthood by reviving mythological stories of incest, brutality, and obsessive self love: The Oedipus Complexand the Electra Complex, both variations on the theme of destructive love, murdering the same sex parent and marrying the opposite parent, and narcissism, destructive love of self, vividly allegorized the perils of the journey to adulthood. Freud approached treating neuroses with a new method he termed psychoanalysis. From the psychoanalytic point of view, the expectation of dysfunction is assumed, in varying degrees, as virtually all individuals experience at least minimal trauma during their development. Freud acknowledged that the very process of growing apart from a parent, notably the mother whose body conceived and sustained the dependent child, is an inherently anxious process, poignantly observing Anxiety in children is nothing more than an expression of the fact that they are feeling the loss of the person they love (101). Maturation not only involves vulnerability, it also requires it, as it is built into the process of differentiation. As the child grows, he relates himself to the external world through different organs or erotogenic zones (oral, anal, and genital).

  • 14. The Movie Pocahontas Was Released By Disney Essay The movie Pocahontas was released by Disney in 1995, and its sequel Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World three years later. Together the movies depict, to a certain extent, the story of Native American princess , Pocahontas. I will watch both movies in their entirety, paying close attention to detail, and take note of how exactly the story is portrayed. Afterwards, I will research as much as I can about Pocahontasand compare it to what is presented in the Disney film. I will then asses why I think, exactly, the filmmakers left out or changed what they did. Due to the fact that I am dealing with a story that involves English colonization, a situation that I know for a fact involved genocide and oppression of the natives, I suspect that most of my findings will lead me to believe that Disney changed the story in a way that makes it as innocent as possible. There are a few historical inaccuracies in the movie that I am already aware of and plan on questioning. Why doesn t the movie show more death? Why is her age not accurate in the movie? Why is Pocahontas portrayed as an only child instead of a sibling of 19 other children? I will search the databases EBSCOhost and JStor with the following key words: Pocahontas, John Smith, Jamestown, and Powhatan .... And comb through the results to find which articles offer the most insightful perspectives. Rasmussen, William M.S., and Robert S. Tilton. Pocahontas. American History 30.3 (1995): 40. In both cases, the women experienced great success as writers during their time. Their popularity shows how their messages were transferred to many people of their time. She becomes a fallen woman (787), according to Cathy N. Davidson, in the sense that she engages in intimacies intended only for marriage in the 18th Century respectable women. Montraville, on the other hand, prevails; he goes on to marry well. For him, manhood has to do with being financially responsible, but he could have a fling along the way. The consequences were unimportant when he pursued Charlotte. When he sees with his own eyes what comes of Charlotte during her funeral procession, he then realize that his perception was wrong. Though Charlotte had no fortune, her previous commitment to virtue is rich. Womanhood was miserable for this young woman. She faces tough decisions, and she does not make the best choices when forced to do so on her own. In a sense, womanhood can also represent inferiority in Charlotte and Ruth. Consider that Rowson s work was considered a sentimental novel, and this title has not been given to any male counterpart s writing. Davidson notes that sentimental writing is associated with popularity , emotionality , religiosity , and domesticity , all of which defined female literature as possessing a certain

Security in organization such as Barclays bank is crucial since it does protect the details of the clients as well assets of the bank. Services such as electronic funds transfer, automated teller machines and mobile banking have brought new security challenges. Security measures are an attempt to reduce risk as well losses due to muggings, unauthorized users, insider manipulation, fraudulent card use and many more (Hess, 2010). Barclays bank started its operations in 1690 in London from a few connected individuals who were influential in the start of the leading international financial institutions. The bank had grown tremendously over years since its conversion to public limited company. It has spread its operations worldwide and offers a range of services to many financial clients. When you look at security systems, fraud and interference occur mainly due to failure in several issues. In banks where they are no controls at all, insecurity becomes a major problem. Another feature is where there is assumption that controls are effective yet there are not. Controls may also lack amendment which may prove to be outdated by emerging technologies and advancements. Some controls may be applied for compliance purpose, they do not have fundamentals. Financial institutions have been facing attack from their own employees (Wilding, 2006). Common fears may be heights or spiders; some would rationally go out of their way to avoid these, but this is quite different from having a phobia. A phobia is an irrational distress with a particular object or concept /idea. Although fears are well known now, they do not have to disrupt the lives of those who are living them. Throughout the essay there will be three different treatments with three different phobias in ways to cure a phobia; the first is a trauma focused treatment approach for travel phobia, assessment and treatment for childhood phobias, and hypnosis in facilitating clinical treatment of injections.... • 25. What Role Does Cd4 Play In The Human Immune System The human immune system plays a major role in every person s body. It protects the body against foreign particles that could lead to diseases, such as bacteria and viruses. A white blood cell protein, called CD4, play a key role in the human immune system. Without the help of CD4 proteins, bodies would not be able to receive the signal to activate the body s immune response against foreign contaminants entering the body. CD4 proteins are found in white blood cells, which play a very important role in the human immune system. CD4 is also a glycoprotein. They can be found on the surface of immune cells, such as T helper cells, that serve as receptors. They are receptors for one of the most commonly known infections, HIVAIDS. CD4 cells, also known as T helper cells, are an essential part of the human immune system. When a foreign particle enters the body, CD4 cells send signals to other types of immune cells, which trigger them to then destroy the infectious particle. If a body s CD4 cell count is reduced, the body is left vulnerable to many diseases and infections that it would otherwise have been able to protect itself against. CD4 is also a glycoprotein on... The theme of The Thing in the Forest is that war destroys literally everything in its path, one of the most horrifying being the destruction of innocence. The symbolism of the Worm, the setting of the story and characterization of Alys all support this. Symbolism plays a very large role in the story and defining the theme. The girls are sent to the countryside in an attempt to shield them from the effects of the war. The setting is pivotal to the story. Setting it during WWII is important because it is recognizable to nearly everyone in the Western world, and generally agreed upon as one of the worst wars in history. The location is also very important because being in the United Kingdom means that Penny and Primrose are in the thick of things. Had it been set in the United States, there would be no reason to send them away, as there was little threat to the continental US. In addition, dragons and more specifically, the kind of worm in the story are more common in European culture and mythology in comparison to other cultures. Other cultures have very different dragons or very few dragons in the cultural lore. A micro setting like the forest is also symbolically important as previously mentioned. The current small scale social atmosphere during the time that the girls are sent away is also very important. On a recent trip to visit a Mexican restaurant, Mi Tierra, where I had never been before, I applied these three criteria to determine if I would make a return visit to this establishment. One of the first things that I looked at, besides the restaurant s dГѓ cor, where there was much to be desired, was the restaurant s culinary offerings. Yamaha is known for producing good, reliable four stroke bikes. KTM was founded back in 1934 by Hans Trunkenpolz but didn t start large production and sales of motorcycles until 1981. The KTM comes stock with billet hubs, these are amazing hubs that are super smooth rolling and relatively low maintenance. The reason that I like the KTM better than the Yamaha is because I have both brand bikes. I ride the KTM the most because I like the way it feels and the massive amount of power behind it. It is a fast, nimble bike great for both motocross and enduro. I have also worked on both bikes and can say that the KTM is far easier to work on. The Yamaha is still a good bike, but the KTM is just better in my opinion. The Yamaha is kind of an old bike now; they haven t changed the frame or the engine since 2006 when they did a whole makeover to the bike. The biggest thing that they upgraded for this year were the graphics that were looking kind of old. Some people will argue that the Yamaha is a bit more reliable than the KTM is, and I will have to agree with that. Since the Yamaha is an older bike, they have some of the bugs worked out of it and the
  • 39. The Alcoholic Republic The Alcoholic Republic The colonization of America brought about many new ways of life: new living conditions, new skills to be learned, and new land to explore and settle. Relations with the natives provided food and basic skill sets, and it also paved the way for new colonists arriving in such a foreign land. However, life for colonists coming to settle America was no vacation. Depending on your family s background and where you decided to settle, daily life was an adventure. In Virginia, rapscallions, who had never worked a day in their life, squandered their days drinking and gambling. New Hampshire set up actual town squares; churches, schools, town halls. Soon enough, however, a similar theme started to become more and more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lower classes binged on cheap liquor as a sign of independence from the upper class as well as products from the very forces they fought to gain their independence. However, the majority of drinkers chose a particular type of alcohol based on certain personal characteristics. These anxieties depend solely on both the level of motivation for achievement and the level of their aspirations. Many Americans drank previously to feel a sense of camaraderie with their fellow grogs. Those with low motivations had less confidence in their ability to reach targets suffered greater anxiety and this drank more. In the late 1920 s when America began to see accelerating economic growth, the temperance movement flourished. Americans started to realize their vitality and that liquor provided neither happiness for the individual nor a stable society. Temperance leaders used a few techniques to persuade people to quit drinking as well. They advocated religious faith as a way for people to ease the anxieties that led them to drink excessively. On the other hand, they also showed people that drinking was not only a source of that very anxiety, but it was also a source for additional anxiety. 5 In 1830, the annual per capita consumption of alcohol among Americans stood at its all time high of 3.9 gallons. That is to say that, on average, every man, woman, and child in the United

I never liked to read, unless it was any of the Black Lagoon books then you had my full attention, and if it wasn t any of those I would not read it for anything. All I wanted was to read those books, and I am pretty sure I read almost all of them I liked them so much. I especially did not like reading when teachers would make us read at night and fill out a reading chart to go along with it and would make our parents sign it so they made sure that we really did read everyday. It was pure torture for me. I dreaded the reading. My teachers even gave us prizes and treats for reading at home and I still did not want to read. So back to the library I went to get my second book, and then read that before anyone else finished their first book of the year. Looking back to those books some of those are the best books I have ever read to this day. Right after school I would rush as quickly as I could to the front office and laid on the ground reading until my mom got off work, then reading on the bumpy car ride home, after dinner and right before bed. Sometimes, when I was really close to finishing a book I would even stay up super late to finish and use a flashlight as my light so my mom wouldn t see my bedroom light on and know I was up past my bedtime, just so the first thing I said to my teacher the next day was that I finished another book, and of course I said it loud enough so the whole class heard me. They were so shocked that I read so much in so little time. I was on a roll and I didn t want to stop. I had read more books than anyone else in my class and even in my entire

The Trade Industry During The Post Confederation Era From an important ally in the fur trade industry to an oppressed nation occupying desired lands, the value of First Nations people suffered a significant decline, from the white Canadian s perspective, in the nineteenth century. This transformation reached a critical low during the post Confederation era with the introduction of legislation aimed towards further oppressing the Indian . Of such legislation, the most distinguished and impactful was the act entitled An Act to amend and consolidate the laws respecting Indians, more commonly identified as the Indian Act. Introduced in Canadain 1876, the Indian Act was a consolidation of pre existing legislation that reflected the Canadian government s primary goal of assimilation. As the self appointed fiduciary duty of the Canadian government to protect and civilize First Nationsmembers, the Act imposed the first classification of Indian status on the First Nations people of Canada. The Act also implemented the process of enfranchisement which encouraged and/or forced First Nations members to abandon their status and traditional way of life to become fully functioning members of Canadian society. Yet, despite the government s honourable intentions, the Indian Act promoted gender based discrimination towards the women of Canada s First Nations communities, resulting in a loss of status, status rights, and identity for generations of women. This essay will explore the notion of fiduciary duty, will provide an overview of
  • 42. Analysis Of Summer Of The Seventeenth Doll Summer of the Seventeenth Doll Through the development of characterisation, Lawler s text acts as a mirror for an emerging society. Whilst the play encompasses many significant themes relevant to an Australian 1950 s society, the disillusionment of growing old is a concept which is addressed through characters Roo and Olive, who evidently find their discoveries both confronting and provocative. Lawler demonstrates reluctance to grow old through Roo, Olive s love interest who has been consistently travelling to Melbourne for the lay off season every 5 months with his friend, Barney. Roo a dominant, masculine cane cutter who after seventeen years is reluctant to address that he has aged significantly, is adamant to believe that he still possesses the same strength and endurance that he once did. It appears that he is blinded by the excitement of the lay off season to accept that seventeen years later, he is not the same person that he once was. Roo s disillusion is notable in Act 3 Scene 1 when he demonstrates a defensive tone when responding Nobody tells me I m old. I m as good as a man now than I ever was , when confronted by Emma. Through Roo s distinctive voice, Roo s reluctance to accept that he has aged is significant in understanding Roo s response to his unwanted discovery. Similarly, Lawler s character Olive mirrors an identical disillusion to her lover. As Olive is evident in her distaste towards marriage and her determination to maintain the lay off, her

After reading the circulated example and seeing that, the author Chris Metcalf, started with the same viewpoint. I began to be swayed to the same train of thought, which had enlightened Chris. A sudden and drastic change in my thoughts leads me to see that this is, hopefully, my final year as a student designer. The final year, in which I can ask the questions, delve into, what is commonly believed to be, general knowledge within the design field. Immediately I sought to find a designer whom I could interview. Making a list of who was in the immediate area ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Or possibly it was the following sentence ( ...As designers we influence the way people interact with our products... ) as this one sentence made me realise I am the quiet little voice that tells the user to hold the product like this or tilt it that way or put the powder here. The intrinsic little conscience of a product is my thoughts and aspirations for the product. These followed through from my thoughts through my pencil into the final prototype and finally embedded in every one of product units manufactured. The product may not be a direct extension of me but perhaps more closely a child of personal progressions and growing pains as a designer. My thoughts on this topic lead me down a very long and winding path where I eventually end up realising. Designers have a lot of power in how a product is used and interacted with by users. Everyone now knows after watching that one movie with great power comes great responsibility . Joe s viewpoint on working is almost a complete flip in thought, complexity and word count. Learn the game to bend the rules . This seemed simple enough at the time but now that I have thought about it some more I realise I would like to ask how far into the grey one can go with the bending of the rules . There are always question left unanswered and next time I will ask a designer this question I will weigh his opinion up against my own. Which is? I personally have no problem with that thought especially if it

My topic is important because I think if people would read this and listen to what I have to say about why there should be stricter gun laws and schools should provide more safety for kids that there would be a change in some things. First off I will explain why schools should have more protection. One thing that could change is if we had security at the doors of school. My opinion on some gun laws is that they need to be changed. In Indiana there is no license required to carry a rifle or shot gun which is pretty dumb in my opinion. I think you should have to have a license to carry it and a license for hunting. If your not a hunter or a police officer or someone who works in like the police force you should not be able to have any big guns like that. I also feel like you should be 21 before you can get a gun like that. In the article Indiana gun laws: What you need to know states that there is a red flag law and only 5 states California, Connecticut, Oregon, Washington and Indiana use it. For example, Ernesto wanted to learn english, go to school, and not give up so Ernesto came to America to go to school, learn english, and not give up. Annie Johnson did not give up and Annie made her own business and without this business Annie would not have money and would not be able to handle her childrens. Monica had more responsibilities to do because Monica wanted a little brother. Individuals are driven to undertake missions because for example one of the motivation of the first story was to learn english and go to school and be successful, another motivation was to make money to support a family, and the last motivation was that someone wanted a little brother. The first story I chose out of all the three stories that I chose was Barrio Boy by Ernesto Galarza. This story relates to my thesis statement because Ernesto wanted to learn english and go to school so he came to America from Mexicowith his mother. The first thing that Ernesto did to success was that he emigrated to America from Mexico with his mother. Then, he went to school in America because he wanted to learn english. Also, in paragraph three it says they assured us that there was always a person who could speak spanish . Another, evidence in paragraph 14 it

A hotel s main objective is to provide the best service and tend to all of the guests needs and requirements. If there is no service then there would be no business. When running a business, the costumer is always placed first. Poor services can results in a complaint from a guest. But that complaint can be used to better the business in the future. There are many issues that Mr. Metz should be concerned with when it comes to running the ATMI hotel. It is the general manager s job to make sure the guests are being pampered and taken cared of. Hankins did not even want to speak with the manager; he just wanted a room. Further poor customer service was displayed when the operator did not tend to Dr. Hankins needs, and forcefully insisted his opinion that Dr. Hankins should talk to his manager. Mr. Metz needs to review the rules of how to properly deal with the guests and their requirements to the employees. Aside from the operator s lack of responsibility, the manager did not show any professional behaviour towards the guests. After listening to Dr. Hankins problem, the night managerdid not approach him with a resolution as he promised. As a result of inadequate service and unprofessional behaviour, the Hankins wasted their time in waiting for a solution. An additional problematic area that should be looked into is the way the members in the staff treat each other. When Dr. Hankins brought the predicament up with the receptionist, the receptionist went and yelled at his/her co worker in front of the guests. This surely shows how poorly behaved the receptionist have conducted him /herself. It was not solved in a mannerly order and for that reason alone, is a problem. The evidence in the letter is credible because Dr. Hankins certainly did testify the problems that have occurred during his stay at the hotel. Dr. Hankins presented and expressed himself rationally from beginning to end of the letter. In the letter, he did not sound angry nor did he sound like he wanted compensation for his bad
