strategies to promote the product or service as well.Marketing and advertising departments struggle to
promote their brand and thereby raise its attractiveness. The social media marketing has changed the
whole perspective of advertising. Social media marketing provides an amazing opportunity to connect

Balanced Scorecard Facilities Management
KPMG International Shared Services and Outsourcing Advisory Using a balanced scorecard to help
measure facilities management performance by Steve Silen, Director, KPMG Advisory Services For
nearly 20 years, leading organizations have been using balanced scorecards to strategically measure
the financial and non financial performance of different operational functions within their firms. More
recently, they have begun leveraging them to measure the performance of their third party service
providers. In the facilities management (FM) function, use of a balanced scorecard enables companies
to evaluate the performance of their external providers against multiple criteria (see Figure 1), help set
alignment and focus, identify improvement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This enables them to zoom in on specific expenses such as maintenance or energy/utilities, and have
meaningful discussions with their providers about whether their expectations are being met. Customer
satisfaction Measuring the satisfaction level of those receiving FM services is another critical part of
the process. Organizations should use a variety of methods to obtain input directly from their internal
customers, including periodic email surveys (e.g., annual/ semi annual/upon completion of a service),
online or paper suggestion boxes, administrative assistant feedback sessions and # of complaints
received. A detailed scorecard, similar to the one in the cost category, should be established to measure
customer satisfaction. All of these are excellent ways to hear the voice of the customer and identify
areas for improvement. Yet care should be taken to develop and administer surveys that capture
relevant information without being a burden to complete, and that feedback sessions do not keep
participants away from their jobs for too long. Service delivery Proper operational performance is
ensured only when providers meet or surpass firms service delivery expectations. Thus, organizations
should implement a detailed scorecard to assess service delivery performance for each service line.
For example, in the maintenance category, the detailed scorecard may look like the example in Figure
4 on the next page and Figure 5 shows

In this study I will be comparing the 2 poems, To Autumn and
Ozymandias. I have chosen these two poems because out of the four that we have looked at, I have
found these to be the most interesting.
Ozymandias revolves more around time than nature, whereas To Autumn revolves around nature more
than time.
Ozymandias is on the surface a nice little tale of a big bad man who made a statue that has been
destroyed. However if you probe at it, you realise that it is actually all about time and nature
destroying everything. I shall go ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the first stanza is to do with life and growth
( ripeness , budding , plump ), the second is about laziness and inactivity ( sitting careless , half reap d
, sound asleep ) and the third stanza is about death ( soft dying , mourn , dies ). I think this shows
Keats view on life; that we are born, we live, and then we die. Another thing that I think this poem
shows about Keats is his view on death. I believe that after death, there is nothing to be feared, as if
you look at his poem. After the 1st half of the 3rd stanza, all the death seems to have been left behind.
It is very musical ( bleat ,
sing , whistles ) which I think shows that Keats believes that after death you go to heaven.
As well as all this, one other thing that I can deduce from reading
John Keats poem, is that he doesn t think that time should be wasted.
His three stanzas all represent the senses of the human body; the first stanza is on touch, feel and taste
( sweet , ripeness ,
fruit ), the second is on sight and smell ( seen , fume ,
watchest ) and the third is on hearing ( songs , music , sing ). He has included this, I think, to show us
that we should use our senses, and not let them go to waste. Another point that I think agrees with my
conclusion is that in the second stanza it talks of laziness and of inactivity, and also mentions a hook
which is closely related to the scythe of the Grim Reaper.
In comparison to this, in

Child Sexual Abuse In The Bluest Eye By Toni Morrison
Child sexual abuse before the 1970s was secretive and socially unspeakable. It was only after 1970s
that it became legally punishable. Toni Morrison raised this issue in her novel The Bluest Eye
speaking about the unspeakable. Second wave feminism brought sexual abuse and violence against
women to the forefront making them public and political issues.
Child abuse is a complex phenomenon with multiple causes and occurs in a range of situations and
circumstances. Children are abused by people in a position of power above them. Child abuse is
nothing but the oppression of the weak by the powerful. Children are weaker physically than their
oppressors and so can be overpowered easily. If they are bold enough to raise their voice they are

Impairment In Iowana Essay
Currently, Iowa has some of the worst waters in the nation. The Clean Water Act requires states to
biannually test surface water to determine impairments. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources
defines impairment as A waterbody is impaired when its water quality does not fully support that
waterbody s designated uses for human contact, aquatic life, or drinking water. They note that an
impairment on one part of a stream or river does not necessarily mean that at other points of the
waterbody it is constituted as impaired. The meaning deals with what the waterbody is designated for
and whether it meets the standards set for that use. The amount of Iowa water bodies listed as
impaired is very high, but there are also many bodies that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The options we have available to alleviate this situation are few. One option, considered by many is
simply to do nothing. This is advanced by many who believe that since we can treat the water we
should not be placing any more burden upon our farmers. Most Republicans in the state legislature
believe this is the best idea, because it is better to have the Des Moines Water Works to have to pay to
fix the water than to place costly measure upon farmers and hurt out economy. However, this option
does not fix our increasingly polluted water, and does not help fix the increasing Dead Zone.
DMWW already tried suing upstream farmers and counties to have their runoff under the Clean Water
Act however, the judge declared that the issue should be left to the state legislature. Those listed in the
lawsuit were farmers located in the counties of Buena Vista, Calhoun, and Sac, each in Northern Iowa
and feeding waters into the Raccoon River. Because this legal action was thrown out, the judicial
approach is an unlikely path for any future policy change in this instance. Because of the judge s
ruling that the legislature is the only way to change this, that means a bill is how it will have to be
fixed. The best option to alleviate farm runoff would be to impose similar regulations to what the state
of Minnesota has done. The

Definition Of Globalisation
The term globalisation describes the process of becoming worldwide in scope or application, and the
increasing interdependency of nation sates. At least that gives us one loose definition for globalisation,
but as Scholte (2000) realises, globalisation is a thoroughly contested subject, with arguments extend
across the issue of definition as well as measurement, chronology, explanation and normative
judgement. In fact, Scholte identifies five contrasting definitions for the word globalisation as used by
a number of the subject s commentators and critics internationalisation, liberalisation, universalisation,
western/modernisation and deterrioralisation are (2000: 13). In choosing a definition of globalisation,
one is also selecting how they wish to interpret it, and what points they wish to convey. For example,
the choice of western/modernisation leads to a view that globlisation sees the economically and
politically powerful west globalising the rest of the world, whilst universalisation leads to a more
neutral stance, taking it s root from the dictionary definition of the word gloalise , meaning to
universalise. To judge whether or not globalisation is a myth or fact therefore requires the full
understanding of what the term means to it s critics and advocates, and in which ways they belive it to
be myth of fact. Giddens simplifies the debate into two main schools the sceptics and the radicals. A
radical himself, he writes that According to the sceptics, all

Narcissistic Personality Disorder Paper
Narcissism
Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their
own importance, a deep need for admiration and a lack of empathy for others. (Mayo Clinic, 2014)
Like other personality disorders, narcissists have traits that cause them to feel and behave in socially
distressing ways, limiting their ability to function in important areas of life, such as school, work, and
relationships. What may not be apparent to the outside eye is that there is a very fragile and friable self
esteem that is very thin skinned. Those with this disorder think very highly of themselves and have a
hard time seeing anyone else s views, because they believe their way is the best way. They have self
centered fantasies that are high and wide of actual reality. Receiving criticism for them, even in the
slightest, can be so detrimental. You may never see the extreme sensitivity to the criticism because it is
often kept so quiet and hidden from others.
It can sometimes be difficult to distinguish a true narcissistic person apart from a person who is highly
confident. They may look similar, although a narcissist is far more in true depth with themselves and
sees others as inferior. The disorder makes them feel so superior and highly of themselves that they
have the potential to put themselves in danger ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On average, more men are affected by the disorder than women. Being raised in a home with severe
criticism at an early age can put someone at risk for this disorder. There is no known cause for
narcissism other than being exposed to the disorder or being heavily criticized at a young age.
Fortunately, there is hope for those who have narcissistic personality disorder. With therapy, the
thought process can be changed and they can regain normal thoughts. The earlier the disorder is
diagnosed and therapy is started, the better the outcome will likely

Slam, Dunk, Hook, By Yusef Komunyakaa
In Slam, Dunk, Hook, by Yusef Komunyakaa, the speaker explains how he and his teammates play
basketball and it does to them. Through his use of juxtaposition, enjambment, and repetition,
Komunyakaa reveals the thematic ideas of cooperation and struggle against the many adversities of
life. Within the poem, Komunyakaa repeatedly juxtaposes good and evil with phrases such as bad
angels , swivels of faith and bone , and Beautiful dangerous . In the literal context of the poem, these
juxtapositions are used to highlight the greatness of the speaker and his team. It also reveals how
fierce the game of such polar opposites of good and evil is. On a deeper level, these juxtapositions
work to make the poem a metaphor for an actual basketball game. It introduces the facets of
competition and struggle versus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The repetition of we in this work serves many purposes. The first is that it emphasizes the importance
of unity. He doesn t describe the movement of one player in the game because there is no single
player; there is a unit, a team. All members of the basketball team work together as parts of a single
whole. This reveals the theme that cooperation breeds success. The team is successful and Beautiful
dangerous because they are a team. They are one. The repetition of we also serves to emphasize the
importance of he when Komunyakaa shifts the poem to focus on one specific team member, Sonny
Boy. When his mother died, Sonny Boy played nonstop, all day . This expounds upon the theme of the
poem (passion is savior). When Komunyakaa returns to the plural we , he does it in the same sentence,
saying that Sonny Boy played nonstop, all day, so hard our backboard splintered . This particular shift
shows that though Sonny Boy is an individual separated from his team via his emotional pain, he is
still a part of the team and is claimed in the Our Komunyakaa uses to describe the

Violations of Human Rights in the Arab-Israeli Conflict
Since the beginning of the Arab Israeli conflict there have been countless human rights violations
committed by both sides, but the majority of violations have been carried out by Israel against the
Palestinians. In looking at the conflict, one may believe that every attack has featured a human rights
violation, but in order to be able to properly determine what human rights violations are, one must
know the history of human rights and how they are protected. The idea of human rights started with a
man named Henri Dunant, who was a merchant present during the Battle of Solferino in Italy. In
viewing this battle from a distance, Henri was disturbed by the mass amounts of dead and injured

The UN Human Rights Council was formed at the 2005 World Summit and has the mission of
investigating human rights violations around the world. The Rights Council works in conjunction with
the UN Security Council and the International Criminal Court to prevent and deal with human rights
violations. This cooperation led to the acceptance of Resolution 1674 in April of 2006, which calls all
parties that are engaged in armed conflict to follow The Hague Conventions of 1899 and 1907 and
Protocols I and II from the Geneva Conventions. In adopting this resolution the UN Security Council
wanted to focus on the protection of civilians during armed conflict and they stated that, Appropriate
steps would be adopted if the deliberate targeting of civilians and protected persons came to the
attention of the Council.
Besides these international organizations there are many NGOs, Non governmental organizations,

the IOs and NGOs, provide the world s policing force against human rights violations and ensure that
all of humanity is treated equally.

presently in the Arab Israeli conflict are coming into the light and

Essay on Metamorphosis of the Family in Kafka s...
Metamorphosis of the Family in Kafka s Metamorphosis In Franz Kafka s Metamorphosis, the nature
of Gregor Samsa s reality changes insignificantly in spite of his drastic physical changes. Gregor s life
before the metamorphosis was limited to working and caring for his family. As a traveling salesman,
Gregor worked long, hard hours that left little time to experience life. He reflects on his life
acknowledging the plague of traveling: the anxieties of changing trains, the irregular, inferior meals,
the ever changing faces, never to be seen again, people with whom one has no chance to be friendly
(Kafka 13). Gregor, working to pay off his family s debt, has resigned himself to a life full of work.

So concerned with ensuring his parents and sister were taken care of, he forgot his own needs. It was
apparent to everyone that he was no longer thought of as a son or an extension of the family, but
merely as a support system. The tragic fact is that everyone had grown accustomed to it, his family as
much as himself; they took the money gratefully, he gave it willingly but the act was accompanied by
no remarkable effusiveness (Kafka 48). It appears that in the course of his hectic work schedule, he
overlooks that in return for dedication to his family, he remains unloved and unappreciated. Yet
Gregor still believed he had to provide his family with a pleasant, contented, secure life (Emrich 149),
regardless of how they treated him. Gregor s existence before the metamorphosis was much like after
it; limited to work and family, he went unnoticed by both. After changing into a cockroach one night,
Gregor is forced to live a life of isolation with a family who is appalled by him. He is placed in a dark
bedroom, in the jumble of discarded furniture and filth a monstrous vermin, a grotesque, hidden part
of the family (Eggenschwiler 211). Shock and terror, resulting in Gregor being locked away, marked
his family s reaction to his metamorphosis. His sister is the only one that, while frightened, would tend
to Gregor s room and meals. She even took the responsibility so far as to get angry with anyone who

Contracts For A Contract Agreement Essay
A contract is a promise or a set of promises that one party makes to another and that can be enforced
using law. Contracts are made for commercial bargains. A contract is legally binding. It entails selling
or hire of commodities such as services, goods or land. The major elements required for a legally
binding contract are offer and its acceptance . When one person expresses an offer on outlined terms
to contract and the offeree indicates that they have agreed to the set terms, the contract becomes
legally binding. There is usually no room for negotiations after a contract has been made. Therefore,
an offer that is valid must be in existence. There are requirements for existence of such a valid offer.
This essay assesses the requirements. For an offer to be valid, contracting parties in a commercial
transaction must be having an intention of entering into an agreement that is legally binding.
Therefore, both the offeror and the offeree must be ready to create a relationship that is legal in
manner . This ensures that either parties can sue the other in case they do not adhere to provisions of
the terms in the contract. If the parties are in a commercial relationship that is not legally binding, then
that is not a contract. It may be subject to contract which means that the terms of the relationship will
become legally binding once the parties sign the subsequent contract. When the interaction is subject
to contract, either of the parties is free to exit the negotiations at

The policy issues that seem to be a major concern in the United States is about children being exposed
to domestic violence in the home. No one really looks at what the children have to go through when
this happens. There could be some major damage done to the children that have been exposed to this
happening. Boston police go on an average of about 200 calls a month on domestic violence. The
content of the video on Child exposure to Domestic Violence was a personal crime. First we need to

It seems like the younger the child is they will exhibit a higher level of emotional and psychological
distress then what an older child will. People who commit domestic violence against one another with
a child or children present never think of the outcome and how it will affect the child or children. If
these children continue to see all of this domestic violence especially if it is a young boy, they may
result in continuing this same behavior throughout childhood. There were not any future implications
that were discussed in the video. Yet, I have some future implications that I would like to talk about.
For instance the three year old boy in the video yet again witnessed his father being arrested for the
restraining order that was in place. This young boy really does not understand what is happening to his
family, meaning what is really happening with his father. A future implication that I think should be in
place is one that makes both parents responsible for the actions of domestic violence, but at the same
time then we would be hurting the child. The world needs to think about the child and not themselves.
There is a lot of content specific information that is relevant to the video that I selected. There was an
article that stated children who live with domestic violence face increased risks: the risk of exposure
to traumatic events, the risk of

Belmont Report Ethics
In examining how nanotechnology can eliminate a virus like human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)
using the method of experiments, one must consider the ethical principles before they may conduct
this investigation. This experiment involves the use of human subjects and therefore the Belmont
Report will inform ethical considerations for this study. It is important to distinguish between
biomedical and behavioral research . . . in order to know what activities ought to undergo review for
the protection of human subjects of research (The Belmont Report). A researchers first concern is not
the outcomes of the experiment but the participants safety. The Belmont Report states there are three
basic ethical principles: respect for persons, beneficence, and justice. The first ethical principle stated
by the Belmont Report is respect for persons. Respect for persons incorporates at least two ethical
convictions: first, that individuals should be treated as autonomous agents, and second, that persons
with diminished autonomy are entitled to protection (The Belmont Report). The researcher must

Analysis Of Bilbo s Hobbit
After beginning his adventure, Bilbo faces one of his most difficult challenges in The Hobbit when
Bilbo Baggins faces the Inmost cave stage he fights with Gollum in the cave. Holmes describes the
Inmost Cave as the abyss. This is the greatest challenge that faces the hero (Holmes). This stage is
literally in a dark cave, one that provides a morally challenging and terrifying experience for Bilbo. In
the cave, he deals with the Gollum and finds the Ring, changing his character forever. Only once he
suffers through his riddle battle with Gollum, he recovers The Ring, a ring that grants its wearer
invisibility as they wear the Ring. Bilbo has to deal with a moral dilemma when he must face Gollum
and must decide on whether or not to kill Gollum. While in the cave with Gollum, Bilbo put on the
Ring, which make him invisible and had to deal with what to do about Gollum in Bilbo s panic and
terrified state: Bilbo almost stopped breathing, and went stiff himself. He was desperate. He must get
away, out of this horrible darkness, while he had any strength left. He must fight. He must stab the
foul thing, put its eyes out, kill it. It meant to kill him (Tolkien 86). He was forced to lose some of his

The Five Factor Model Of Personality
The five factor model (FFM) is a contemporary construct describing personality. It incorporates five
traits openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism also referred to as
OCEAN. Within each dimension, there are specific personality attributes, for example, openness
includes subcategories of feelings and actions. The FFM was influenced by Cattell s 16 factor model
(1957) and shares traits with many other personality theories such as Eysenck s PEN model. There has
been an ongoing debate discussing how many factors appropriately represent the brain structure of
personality, suggestions have varied from 2 7, recently Almagor et al. (1995) advocated that a 7 factor
model unfolds when evaluative traits are involved. Costa Mcrae (1992) claim that the FFM is the best
theory of personality, however, the model has received much criticism. Through examining different
aspects of the model its credibility can be explored. Universality is the core basis of a credible theory,
studies have been found to replicate the five factors of personality repeatedly. However, this evidence
has been obtained purely from replications involving urban and literate populations. Gurven et al.
(2013) examined the universality of the theory further by obtaining a sample consisting of 632
Tsimane forager horticultural inhabitants of Bolivia. The sample was, therefore, illiterate and from a
native society an area of study not previously conducted for the FFM. The

Australian casual English, like African American speech, is one of the most complex forms of English
slang, and not always so easy to understand. Phrases such as G day Mate and Chuck a shrimp on the

examples of the frequent use of common Australian slang can be found in the six book series Western

Slavery has been a key issue in American history since the first settlers settled here in 1607. Historians
such as Vincent J Rosivach writes that when the issue of slavery is mentioned the first thing people
think about is the slavery model of the deep south, the cotton kingdom. Rosivach writes that there
were many different slave models such as the northern American colonies and 4th century Athens.
Rosivach and many other historians agree that the way slavery was done in the north was totally
different from the south. Slaves have had an important role particularly in the northern American
colonies helping them early establish themselves first as a region then as a country. Historians have
argued that America was built on the backs of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the north owners usually owned only one or two slaves. Historians have figured that these owners
could have done without them if necessary. Owning slaves was less a commitment than a response to
labor needs. That is why we see blacks working in their owners shops. Historians like Shane white
argue that slaves now had an advantage over slaves in any other area, because these slaves were
picking up trades that could help in their future journey. Rosivach on page 552 talks about how slaves
helped the economy. White talked about the trades they picked up and now Rosivach expands on that.
Since most slave owners only owned a few slaves the owner s main priority was to make ends meet
for his family. Rosivach talks about how slaves could run the owner s shops if the owners had to leave
for a short period of time. Slaves also helped speed up production. With two people working it helped
the owner make more money. They were not running large scaled operations but simple community
ran business. Rosivach also states that even if someone did not own a slave in the north they could
produce the same amount of production as a slave and his owner. Rosivach is making the claim that
slaves are expendable and not a dire need as they were in the south. Rosivach and White both talk
about the type of work slaves did in the north. Along with that work came the person they worked for.

What Is Kolb s Experiential Theory
Another fundamental theory in which us teachers like to add to the students learning is that of Kolb s
Experiential theory. He defines learning as a process in which someone learns through the experiences
he encounters, thus, knowledge is added on because of this revolution. It is described as it works on
four different levels which are presented as a cycle in which one reflects onto the other. The first step
which is listed as the Concrete experience the real experience that is encountered when a new situation
comes up. What follows next is the Reflective observation of this experience. The observation is
important for one to understand what serves as beneficial to grasp and understand from this

This is mainly because children at a young age are more field dependent (global) than field
independent (analytical) (Schunk, 2016). Therefore, field independent students are characterized as
being motivated in everything they do, without needing the group approach to encourage themselves
to work cooperatively. Moreover, they show interest in the tasks presented to them by the teacher
without feeling the need to consult the teacher or their peers. The familiarity of the subject is seen
through their understanding prior carrying out the task, which makes the students cognitively ready for
new challenges in their education. This is one important factor that teachers need to consider and
evaluate before giving out the tasks to the students, as sometimes they might doubt and mistreat their
abilities, offering the students no challenges in the activities. However, during several lessons students
are often seen to work in groups to achieve the same goal, thus referring to one another for new ideas
and solutions. This social interaction promotes understanding amongst the students themselves, and
their teacher. Schunk (2016), confirms that field dependent learners seem sensitive to teacher praise
and criticism . Finally, to accommodate all students present in the classroom, the educator is to
provide well structured material, as

Tutor Interaction Interactions With Students
Tutor Tutee Interactions
Through my time spent in the Taylor Tutoring Center I have not only seen how the students interact
with other students, but also how the tutors interact with the students. While each tutor interaction
with students is different, there are also many similarities among them.
Hi, What are you working on tonight?
Oh hi, I need some help with my physics homework, there s just a few problems I don t quite
understand
We re actually working on physics right here so come have a seat

Some students come to the tutoring room with the strict purpose of getting their work done, they are
not in there to waste their time chatting and forming bonds with the tutors.
How would we solve this physics problem?
First you would set it up like this... Then just plug in the numbers!
This conversation is a common example of the very straight forward and focussed students in the
Taylor Tutoring Center. A much different conversation such as one between the tutors and students
that had formed bonds would include more personal details and would be more relaxed. An insider
informant from the Taylor Tutoring Center, Mandy, shared with me that she likes having a closer
relationship with the tutors, it makes her feel more comfortable asking questions and she feels like the
tutor won t judge her for not understanding a concept. Hearing the reasoning behind why Mandy
pursues a bond with the tutors makes plenty of sense, however, it was strange to me that she would
feel less comfortable asking questions to the tutors even though their entire job is being there to guide
the students.
After this conversation with Mandy, I was curious to find out if the tutors were trained a specific way
on how to help students in a manner that makes the student feel welcome to further ask questions or
whether they were just sent in the room with no guidance. The next time I was in the Taylor Tutoring
Center it was not overly busy so I decided to find out.

Another option offered by Minnesota high schools is a post secondary enrollment option. This option

administered by the Minnesota Department of Education and offer high school students to enroll in
college courses while still attending high school. The PSEO program allows the students to attend a
local college or university that has been approved to be offered to high school students. The College in

concurrent and post secondary enrollment options the number of low income students rose 40% from

Postsecondary enrollment options, 2012). This is a state funded program, with affiliated state colleges
and universities from which the college credit is earned, which is very beneficial for those who do not
have the financial support to attend college. Other benefits to these programs are they allow students
to complete a trial run of college classes to determine if this is part of their career path without
exhausting personal finances. These courses also give students exposure to the high academic
expectations associated with college level work, allow them to find new challenges, and give them
momentum to pursue a college degree by awarding them college credits before they graduate high
school.

Essay Music Copyright
What is a Copyright?
Music Copyright is a very important aspect of the music industry. The Copyright law was established
to preserve the creativity and rights of authors, composers, performers of expression. Copyright is the
law that protects the property rights of the creator of an original work in a fixed tangible medium.
(http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/copyright) A fixed tangible medium is something substantial
like copying lyrics on paper or putting a song on tape or CD. Copyright can be seen every where in the
music industry. Many music artist of our culture today have been involved in copyright issues.

This establishes the artist as the creator of that work. It is not illegal for a person to write the symbol
on their work themselves. The correct way to place a copyright symbol on your original fixed tangible
medium is like this:
Copyright 2001 Aja Star Lane
For record companies it, looks like this:
2001 Virgin Records. All Rights Reserved. (http://askjeeves.com/copyright/html)
This states the day of creation of a musical work. If you do not have the money for the legal fees of
the federal copyright process yet, the first thing an artist should do with a musical work is the poor
mans copyright . Poor mans copyright is when the artist puts their fixed tangible medium in an
envelope with appropriate postage stamps and mails it back to themselves without opening it. This
postmark creates proof of the creator and is the date of creation for the musical work.
Why should an artist copyright an original work?
Copyrighting a musical expression just ensures that an artist is the creator of that work. There are a
couple of reasons why an artist should copyright their original works. The main one is the creator of a
work wants to be able to protect his or her work. Also, financial gain from suing. There would not be
any purpose in creating music without financial gain for some. If you live in the United States and

Hydrated Salt Experiment
Abstract:
The purpose of this experiment was to find the amount and percent of water in a hydrated salt.
Hydrated salt contains water molecules chemically bound to it while anhydrous salt is a substance that
fire can readily remove the water molecules. Using the gravimetric analysis method, the sample salt
was measured, heated, and was measured again after cooled down to room temperature; this procedure
allowed the weight of water lost in the salt to be obtained. After two trials, the water in the salt was
determined to have an average percent water of 35.04%. The null hypothesis, the heat will not affect
the amount of water lost, was rejected ,however, the alternative hypothesis, the heat will allow for
there to be water lost, was not supported.
Purpose of this experiment was to find the amount and percent of water in a hydrated salt. Also, to
successfully determine percent error and standard deviation. Hydrated salts are substances that occur
naturally who usually contain an amount of water molecules chemically bonded to the compound. A
few hydrated salts have weak bonds within the water molecules which allows heat to remove the
water molecules creating an anhydrous salt. Hydrated salts that lose water molecules to the
atmosphere without a heat source are known as efflorescent. Salts that readily absorb water are called
deliquescent. An example of an anhydrous salt would be Magnesium Sulfate or also known as Epsom
Salt. Epsom salt separates under heating and becomes

The On The Good Life Essay
The concept of living the good life means something different for everyone. There is a general
understanding that living the good life is associated with unyielding happiness and lasting satisfaction.
The exact meaning of this desired life was pondered by thinkers and philosophers for hundreds of
years. They constructed principals of behavior, thought, and obligation that would categorize a person
as good . Although some of these ancient philosophies about the good life had overlapping ideas, their
concepts varied widely. This contrast of ideas can be examined through two major characters in two
famous works: Aeneas in The Aeneid and Socrates in The Apology . Aeneas exemplifies the
philosophy that the direct route to the good life is through faith, trust in the Gods, and family, while
Socrates in The Apology emphasizes free will, and vast knowledge of life. Aeneas shows great
commitment to the Gods throughout his mission in The Aeneid . He believes this devotion and trust in
the divine is the meaning of the good life . He is so devoted to his duty that he introduces himself to
strangers by stating his service to the Gods. He states,
I am Aeneas, duty bound, and known
Above high air of heaven by my fame,
Carrying with me in my ships our gods
Of hearth and home, saved from the enemy.
I look for Italy to be my fatherland,
And my descent is from all highest Jove (Aeneid, 1.519 524)

Episodic Memory
As teachers, we are here to educate our students in our areas, but how do we know when students
actually understand and learn the information being taught? Marilee Sprenger (1998) said memory is
the only way to verify learning . After researching the parts of the brain and learning how it processes
information, her statement is true. Memory is the process by which we retain the knowledge and skills
for the future (Sousa, 2011). According to Sprenger (1998), there a five separate memory lanes:
semantic, episodic, procedural, automatic, and emotional. Semantic memory deals with words and is
the most difficult because you must process it repeatedly for long term effects. Episodic memory is
location driven. The procedural memory is your how to memory. Automatic memory ... Show more

Final memory is emotional memory, which connects back to the amygdala where all your emotions
lay. Effective teaching uses strategies to help students recognize patterns and then make the required
connections to process the new working memories so they can travel into the brain s long term storage
areas (Willis, 2007). The first strategy I will do in my classroom is to provide down time in between
learning episodes. I teach in block scheduling and I ve come to realize that students remember best
what comes first, then when comes last, but tend to forget everything in the middle. If I break my
block time into four sections, since high school students can handle about 20 minutes in working
memory, I give students time to process the information being taught. The down time would be a brain
break. During the brain breaks students could be

Aristotle s Argument of the Polis
In what follows, I shall consider Aristotle s argument of the polis, or the city state, as presented in his
Politics I.2, and expound on the philosophical implications of this particular thesis; namely, a thesis
which claims that the city state exists by nature, and correspondingly, that a human being is by nature
a political animal . Along the way, I shall present two objections leveled against each claim. The first
pertains to the invalidity of the argument on ends; specifically, I shall protest that when a thing s
process of coming to be is completed, even if we regard this as an end, this does not necessarily confer
that such an end is a natural end, for artificial processes too, like natural processes, share the potential
to arrive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will now focus on each claim and discuss their respective argument in support. First, if all of the
associations prior to the coming to be of the city state exist by nature, and when a thing s linear
development of coming to be is completed and such is regarded as an end, it must necessarily be
admitted that the city state as the completed result of an uninterrupted process is a natural end itself;
so, the city state exists by nature. Aristotle affirms that each association is a natural development in so
far as it emerges from the natural impulse for self sufficiency, so in achieving its development, it is
clear that such is said to arrive at its nature because of its nature. With regard to Aristotle s whole part
claim, the following can be made explicit: the city state as a whole is prior to its parts namely, human
s being human if and only if it can continue to exist even when any of its parts are removed; but the
human s being human cannot exist in that sense without it. Just as it is essential to a hands being a
hand that it be part of a living human body, for instance, it is similarly essential to a human s being a
human that she or he be part of a city state; hence, hands are essentially corporeal in the same sense
that human beings are essentially political. In any case, whereas the city state continues to exist, the
human s being human cannot. So, the whole is prior to its

Essay On The Subconscious And Subhuman Temper In Wuthering...
The Subconscious and Subhuman Temper
In Young Goodman Brown , Wuthering Heights, and Hamlet, subconscious and subhuman tendencies
indicate the detrimental tolls of obsession inflicted upon the main character. Dreams symbolize the
onset of an obsession and imply that the seemingly harmless nightmares we experience may be more
than merely a bad dream and instead serve as an indicator of the deterioration of our mental stability.
Animalistic vocabulary dehumanizes and reduces characters to a more primitive form causing readers
to question their understanding of what it truly means to be human. Ultimately, this corruption of the
mind leads to undesirable thoughts and seemingly inhuman attributes, all out of the victim s control.
In all cases, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In chapter nine, she discloses her fear that her dream may be a warning of what will become of her if
she neglects her heart s desires and succumbs to her obsession with wealth by marrying Edgar Linton.
Distressed and in search of consolation, Catherine asks her maid, Nelly, do you never dream queer
dreams? (Brontë 49). Catherine proceeds to say, I ve dreamt in my life dreams that have stayed with
me ever after, and changed my ideas: they ve gone through me, like wine through water, and altered
the colour of my mind (49). The simile used here, like wine through water, is symbolic of herself and
her obsession. The water, pure and clean, is herself and the wine, addictive and manipulative, is her
obsession. Once wine is poured into water, they combine to create a new solution. This analogy shows
the way that her fundamental self and obsession have intertwined over time and the effects have been
irreversible. In her most recent dream, she finds herself in heaven but feels misplaced. She fears that
this dream is foreshadowing how she will feel if she marries Edgar Linton. Although she would
possess a desirable status, much like how many yearn to go to heaven, it is not what she truly wants.
In a more literal sense, her marriage to Edgar would be the death of her true

  • 3. Balanced Scorecard Facilities Management KPMG International Shared Services and Outsourcing Advisory Using a balanced scorecard to help measure facilities management performance by Steve Silen, Director, KPMG Advisory Services For nearly 20 years, leading organizations have been using balanced scorecards to strategically measure the financial and non financial performance of different operational functions within their firms. More recently, they have begun leveraging them to measure the performance of their third party service providers. In the facilities management (FM) function, use of a balanced scorecard enables companies to evaluate the performance of their external providers against multiple criteria (see Figure 1), help set alignment and focus, identify improvement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This enables them to zoom in on specific expenses such as maintenance or energy/utilities, and have meaningful discussions with their providers about whether their expectations are being met. Customer satisfaction Measuring the satisfaction level of those receiving FM services is another critical part of the process. Organizations should use a variety of methods to obtain input directly from their internal customers, including periodic email surveys (e.g., annual/ semi annual/upon completion of a service), online or paper suggestion boxes, administrative assistant feedback sessions and # of complaints received. A detailed scorecard, similar to the one in the cost category, should be established to measure customer satisfaction. All of these are excellent ways to hear the voice of the customer and identify areas for improvement. Yet care should be taken to develop and administer surveys that capture relevant information without being a burden to complete, and that feedback sessions do not keep participants away from their jobs for too long. Service delivery Proper operational performance is ensured only when providers meet or surpass firms service delivery expectations. Thus, organizations should implement a detailed scorecard to assess service delivery performance for each service line. For example, in the maintenance category, the detailed scorecard may look like the example in Figure 4 on the next page and Figure 5 shows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have chosen these two poems because out of the four that we have looked at, I have found these to be the most interesting. Ozymandias revolves more around time than nature, whereas To Autumn revolves around nature more than time. Ozymandias is on the surface a nice little tale of a big bad man who made a statue that has been destroyed. However if you probe at it, you realise that it is actually all about time and nature destroying everything. I shall go ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the first stanza is to do with life and growth ( ripeness , budding , plump ), the second is about laziness and inactivity ( sitting careless , half reap d , sound asleep ) and the third stanza is about death ( soft dying , mourn , dies ). I think this shows Keats view on life; that we are born, we live, and then we die. Another thing that I think this poem shows about Keats is his view on death. I believe that after death, there is nothing to be feared, as if you look at his poem. After the 1st half of the 3rd stanza, all the death seems to have been left behind. It is very musical ( bleat , sing , whistles ) which I think shows that Keats believes that after death you go to heaven. As well as all this, one other thing that I can deduce from reading John Keats poem, is that he doesn t think that time should be wasted. His three stanzas all represent the senses of the human body; the first stanza is on touch, feel and taste ( sweet , ripeness , fruit ), the second is on sight and smell ( seen , fume , watchest ) and the third is on hearing ( songs , music , sing ). He has included this, I think, to show us that we should use our senses, and not let them go to waste. Another point that I think agrees with my conclusion is that in the second stanza it talks of laziness and of inactivity, and also mentions a hook which is closely related to the scythe of the Grim Reaper. In comparison to this, in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Child Sexual Abuse In The Bluest Eye By Toni Morrison Child sexual abuse before the 1970s was secretive and socially unspeakable. It was only after 1970s that it became legally punishable. Toni Morrison raised this issue in her novel The Bluest Eye speaking about the unspeakable. Second wave feminism brought sexual abuse and violence against women to the forefront making them public and political issues. Child abuse is a complex phenomenon with multiple causes and occurs in a range of situations and circumstances. Children are abused by people in a position of power above them. Child abuse is nothing but the oppression of the weak by the powerful. Children are weaker physically than their oppressors and so can be overpowered easily. If they are bold enough to raise their voice they are subjugated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Impairment In Iowana Essay Currently, Iowa has some of the worst waters in the nation. The Clean Water Act requires states to biannually test surface water to determine impairments. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources defines impairment as A waterbody is impaired when its water quality does not fully support that waterbody s designated uses for human contact, aquatic life, or drinking water. They note that an impairment on one part of a stream or river does not necessarily mean that at other points of the waterbody it is constituted as impaired. The meaning deals with what the waterbody is designated for and whether it meets the standards set for that use. The amount of Iowa water bodies listed as impaired is very high, but there are also many bodies that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The options we have available to alleviate this situation are few. One option, considered by many is simply to do nothing. This is advanced by many who believe that since we can treat the water we should not be placing any more burden upon our farmers. Most Republicans in the state legislature believe this is the best idea, because it is better to have the Des Moines Water Works to have to pay to fix the water than to place costly measure upon farmers and hurt out economy. However, this option does not fix our increasingly polluted water, and does not help fix the increasing Dead Zone. DMWW already tried suing upstream farmers and counties to have their runoff under the Clean Water Act however, the judge declared that the issue should be left to the state legislature. Those listed in the lawsuit were farmers located in the counties of Buena Vista, Calhoun, and Sac, each in Northern Iowa and feeding waters into the Raccoon River. Because this legal action was thrown out, the judicial approach is an unlikely path for any future policy change in this instance. Because of the judge s ruling that the legislature is the only way to change this, that means a bill is how it will have to be fixed. The best option to alleviate farm runoff would be to impose similar regulations to what the state of Minnesota has done. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Definition Of Globalisation The term globalisation describes the process of becoming worldwide in scope or application, and the increasing interdependency of nation sates. At least that gives us one loose definition for globalisation, but as Scholte (2000) realises, globalisation is a thoroughly contested subject, with arguments extend across the issue of definition as well as measurement, chronology, explanation and normative judgement. In fact, Scholte identifies five contrasting definitions for the word globalisation as used by a number of the subject s commentators and critics internationalisation, liberalisation, universalisation, western/modernisation and deterrioralisation are (2000: 13). In choosing a definition of globalisation, one is also selecting how they wish to interpret it, and what points they wish to convey. For example, the choice of western/modernisation leads to a view that globlisation sees the economically and politically powerful west globalising the rest of the world, whilst universalisation leads to a more neutral stance, taking it s root from the dictionary definition of the word gloalise , meaning to universalise. To judge whether or not globalisation is a myth or fact therefore requires the full understanding of what the term means to it s critics and advocates, and in which ways they belive it to be myth of fact. Giddens simplifies the debate into two main schools the sceptics and the radicals. A radical himself, he writes that According to the sceptics, all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Narcissistic Personality Disorder Paper Narcissism Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for admiration and a lack of empathy for others. (Mayo Clinic, 2014) Like other personality disorders, narcissists have traits that cause them to feel and behave in socially distressing ways, limiting their ability to function in important areas of life, such as school, work, and relationships. What may not be apparent to the outside eye is that there is a very fragile and friable self esteem that is very thin skinned. Those with this disorder think very highly of themselves and have a hard time seeing anyone else s views, because they believe their way is the best way. They have self centered fantasies that are high and wide of actual reality. Receiving criticism for them, even in the slightest, can be so detrimental. You may never see the extreme sensitivity to the criticism because it is often kept so quiet and hidden from others. It can sometimes be difficult to distinguish a true narcissistic person apart from a person who is highly confident. They may look similar, although a narcissist is far more in true depth with themselves and sees others as inferior. The disorder makes them feel so superior and highly of themselves that they have the potential to put themselves in danger ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On average, more men are affected by the disorder than women. Being raised in a home with severe criticism at an early age can put someone at risk for this disorder. There is no known cause for narcissism other than being exposed to the disorder or being heavily criticized at a young age. Fortunately, there is hope for those who have narcissistic personality disorder. With therapy, the thought process can be changed and they can regain normal thoughts. The earlier the disorder is diagnosed and therapy is started, the better the outcome will likely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Slam, Dunk, Hook, By Yusef Komunyakaa In Slam, Dunk, Hook, by Yusef Komunyakaa, the speaker explains how he and his teammates play basketball and it does to them. Through his use of juxtaposition, enjambment, and repetition, Komunyakaa reveals the thematic ideas of cooperation and struggle against the many adversities of life. Within the poem, Komunyakaa repeatedly juxtaposes good and evil with phrases such as bad angels , swivels of faith and bone , and Beautiful dangerous . In the literal context of the poem, these juxtapositions are used to highlight the greatness of the speaker and his team. It also reveals how fierce the game of such polar opposites of good and evil is. On a deeper level, these juxtapositions work to make the poem a metaphor for an actual basketball game. It introduces the facets of competition and struggle versus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The repetition of we in this work serves many purposes. The first is that it emphasizes the importance of unity. He doesn t describe the movement of one player in the game because there is no single player; there is a unit, a team. All members of the basketball team work together as parts of a single whole. This reveals the theme that cooperation breeds success. The team is successful and Beautiful dangerous because they are a team. They are one. The repetition of we also serves to emphasize the importance of he when Komunyakaa shifts the poem to focus on one specific team member, Sonny Boy. Violations of Human Rights in the Arab-Israeli Conflict Since the beginning of the Arab Israeli conflict there have been countless human rights violations committed by both sides, but the majority of violations have been carried out by Israel against the Palestinians. Metamorphosis of the Family in Kafka s Metamorphosis In Franz Kafka s Metamorphosis, the nature of Gregor Samsa s reality changes insignificantly in spite of his drastic physical changes. Gregor s life before the metamorphosis was limited to working and caring for his family. As a traveling salesman, Gregor worked long, hard hours that left little time to experience life. He reflects on his life acknowledging the plague of traveling: the anxieties of changing trains, the irregular, inferior meals, the ever changing faces, never to be seen again, people with whom one has no chance to be friendly (Kafka 13). So concerned with ensuring his parents and sister were taken care of, he forgot his own needs. It was apparent to everyone that he was no longer thought of as a son or an extension of the family, but merely as a support system. The tragic fact is that everyone had grown accustomed to it, his family as much as himself; they took the money gratefully, he gave it willingly but the act was accompanied by no remarkable effusiveness (Kafka 48). It appears that in the course of his hectic work schedule, he overlooks that in return for dedication to his family, he remains unloved and unappreciated. Yet Gregor still believed he had to provide his family with a pleasant, contented, secure life (Emrich 149), regardless of how they treated him. Gregor s existence before the metamorphosis was much like after it; limited to work and family, he went unnoticed by both. After changing into a cockroach one night, Gregor is forced to live a life of isolation with a family who is appalled by him. He is placed in a dark bedroom, in the jumble of discarded furniture and filth a monstrous vermin, a grotesque, hidden part of the family (Eggenschwiler 211). Contracts are made for commercial bargains. A contract is legally binding. It entails selling or hire of commodities such as services, goods or land. The major elements required for a legally binding contract are offer and its acceptance . When one person expresses an offer on outlined terms to contract and the offeree indicates that they have agreed to the set terms, the contract becomes legally binding. There is usually no room for negotiations after a contract has been made. Therefore, an offer that is valid must be in existence. There are requirements for existence of such a valid offer. This essay assesses the requirements. For an offer to be valid, contracting parties in a commercial transaction must be having an intention of entering into an agreement that is legally binding. Therefore, both the offeror and the offeree must be ready to create a relationship that is legal in manner . This ensures that either parties can sue the other in case they do not adhere to provisions of the terms in the contract. If the parties are in a commercial relationship that is not legally binding, then that is not a contract. It may be subject to contract which means that the terms of the relationship will become legally binding once the parties sign the subsequent contract. • 19. The Five Factor Model Of Personality The five factor model (FFM) is a contemporary construct describing personality. It incorporates five traits openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism also referred to as OCEAN. Within each dimension, there are specific personality attributes, for example, openness includes subcategories of feelings and actions. The FFM was influenced by Cattell s 16 factor model (1957) and shares traits with many other personality theories such as Eysenck s PEN model. There has been an ongoing debate discussing how many factors appropriately represent the brain structure of personality, suggestions have varied from 2 7, recently Almagor et al. (1995) advocated that a 7 factor model unfolds when evaluative traits are involved. Costa Mcrae (1992) claim that the FFM is the best theory of personality, however, the model has received much criticism. Through examining different aspects of the model its credibility can be explored. Universality is the core basis of a credible theory, studies have been found to replicate the five factors of personality repeatedly. However, this evidence has been obtained purely from replications involving urban and literate populations. Gurven et al. • 31. The On The Good Life Essay The concept of living the good life means something different for everyone. There is a general understanding that living the good life is associated with unyielding happiness and lasting satisfaction. The exact meaning of this desired life was pondered by thinkers and philosophers for hundreds of years. They constructed principals of behavior, thought, and obligation that would categorize a person as good . Although some of these ancient philosophies about the good life had overlapping ideas, their concepts varied widely. This contrast of ideas can be examined through two major characters in two famous works: Aeneas in The Aeneid and Socrates in The Apology . Aeneas exemplifies the philosophy that the direct route to the good life is through faith, trust in the Gods, and family, while Socrates in The Apology emphasizes free will, and vast knowledge of life. Aeneas shows great commitment to the Gods throughout his mission in The Aeneid . He believes this devotion and trust in the divine is the meaning of the good life . He is so devoted to his duty that he introduces himself to strangers by stating his service to the Gods. He states, I am Aeneas, duty bound, and known Above high air of heaven by my fame, Carrying with me in my ships our gods Of hearth and home, saved from the enemy. I look for Italy to be my fatherland, And my descent is from all highest Jove (Aeneid, 1.519 524) Aeneas makes rash life decisions and gives up his own personal desires ... • 32. Episodic Memory As teachers, we are here to educate our students in our areas, but how do we know when students actually understand and learn the information being taught? Marilee Sprenger (1998) said memory is the only way to verify learning . After researching the parts of the brain and learning how it processes information, her statement is true. Memory is the process by which we retain the knowledge and skills for the future (Sousa, 2011). According to Sprenger (1998), there a five separate memory lanes: semantic, episodic, procedural, automatic, and emotional. Semantic memory deals with words and is the most difficult because you must process it repeatedly for long term effects. Episodic memory is location driven. The procedural memory is your how to memory. Automatic memory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Final memory is emotional memory, which connects back to the amygdala where all your emotions lay. Effective teaching uses strategies to help students recognize patterns and then make the required connections to process the new working memories so they can travel into the brain s long term storage areas (Willis, 2007). The first strategy I will do in my classroom is to provide down time in between learning episodes. I teach in block scheduling and I ve come to realize that students remember best what comes first, then when comes last, but tend to forget everything in the middle. If I break my block time into four sections, since high school students can handle about 20 minutes in working memory, I give students time to process the information being taught. The down time would be a brain break. During the brain breaks students could be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Aristotle s Argument of the Polis In what follows, I shall consider Aristotle s argument of the polis, or the city state, as presented in his Politics I.2, and expound on the philosophical implications of this particular thesis; namely, a thesis which claims that the city state exists by nature, and correspondingly, that a human being is by nature a political animal . Along the way, I shall present two objections leveled against each claim. The first pertains to the invalidity of the argument on ends; specifically, I shall protest that when a thing s process of coming to be is completed, even if we regard this as an end, this does not necessarily confer that such an end is a natural end, for artificial processes too, like natural processes, share the potential to arrive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will now focus on each claim and discuss their respective argument in support. First, if all of the associations prior to the coming to be of the city state exist by nature, and when a thing s linear development of coming to be is completed and such is regarded as an end, it must necessarily be admitted that the city state as the completed result of an uninterrupted process is a natural end itself; so, the city state exists by nature. Aristotle affirms that each association is a natural development in so far as it emerges from the natural impulse for self sufficiency, so in achieving its development, it is clear that such is said to arrive at its nature because of its nature. With regard to Aristotle s whole part claim, the following can be made explicit: the city state as a whole is prior to its parts namely, human s being human if and only if it can continue to exist even when any of its parts are removed; but the human s being human cannot exist in that sense without it. Just as it is essential to a hands being a hand that it be part of a living human body, for instance, it is similarly essential to a human s being a human that she or he be part of a city state; hence, hands are essentially corporeal in the same sense that human beings are essentially political. In any case, whereas the city state continues to exist, the human s being human cannot. So, the whole is prior to its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Essay On The Subconscious And Subhuman Temper In Wuthering... The Subconscious and Subhuman Temper In Young Goodman Brown , Wuthering Heights, and Hamlet, subconscious and subhuman tendencies indicate the detrimental tolls of obsession inflicted upon the main character. Dreams symbolize the onset of an obsession and imply that the seemingly harmless nightmares we experience may be more than merely a bad dream and instead serve as an indicator of the deterioration of our mental stability. Animalistic vocabulary dehumanizes and reduces characters to a more primitive form causing readers to question their understanding of what it truly means to be human. Ultimately, this corruption of the mind leads to undesirable thoughts and seemingly inhuman attributes, all out of the victim s control. In all cases, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In chapter nine, she discloses her fear that her dream may be a warning of what will become of her if she neglects her heart s desires and succumbs to her obsession with wealth by marrying Edgar Linton. Distressed and in search of consolation, Catherine asks her maid, Nelly, do you never dream queer dreams? (Brontë 49). Catherine proceeds to say, I ve dreamt in my life dreams that have stayed with me ever after, and changed my ideas: they ve gone through me, like wine through water, and altered the colour of my mind (49). The simile used here, like wine through water, is symbolic of herself and her obsession. The water, pure and clean, is herself and the wine, addictive and manipulative, is her obsession. Once wine is poured into water, they combine to create a new solution. This analogy shows the way that her fundamental self and obsession have intertwined over time and the effects have been irreversible. In her most recent dream, she finds herself in heaven but feels misplaced. She fears that this dream is foreshadowing how she will feel if she marries Edgar Linton. Although she would possess a desirable status, much like how many yearn to go to heaven, it is not what she truly wants. In a more literal sense, her marriage to Edgar would be the death of her true ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
