Goodwin outlined five key aspects for successful music videos: 1) interacting with the music's verses and chorus, 2) recognizing the artist's vocal quality, 3) telling a story through the song's lyrics, 4) having the artist participate in and narrate the video to seem more authentic, and 5) establishing an iconic star image to increase audience interest over time.
This document summarizes a student's experience participating in a course called "Mistresses of Spices & Masters of Kitchens" at Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology. As part of the course, the student:
1) Learned about different communities' food practices and traditions through activities, readings, and a field trip. This included insights into how food relates to identity, culture, and family associations.
2) Helped organize a "First Friday Food Fest" where different regional cuisines were cooked and sold. The student worked with a Malayali group to make banana fritters and learned about cultural differences in working styles.
3) Took a field trip
Lily Allen is a London-based pop singer who gained fame after posting demo songs on Myspace in 2005. This led to record deals and chart-topping singles like "Smile" and "LDN." Her 2006 debut album "Alright, Still" was a commercial success. Allen took a break after her second album in 2009 but returned in 2014 with "Sheezus." She is known for her candid lyrics addressing topics like drugs, fame, and family.
The document provides details on the opening sequences of several thriller films including The Silence of the Lambs, Seven, Pulp Fiction, Inception, and The Dark Knight Rises. It analyzes elements of mise-en-scene, camerawork, sound, and editing used in the openings and how they aim to immerse audiences and foreshadow events. Similar techniques are suggested for use in the opening of the filmmaker's own thriller, such as using lighting, props, and music to set mood and imply danger and chaos to come.
This document discusses various camera shots and techniques used in thriller films to build suspense and tension. It describes how high angle shots make characters seem powerless, while close-ups capture emotion and detail. Tracking and tilt shots add movement and drama. Low angle shots emphasize threat and intimidation, while point-of-view shots make the audience feel like a character. Zooming in on details or unseen objects also builds suspense without revealing everything at once. These techniques manipulate the audience's perspective and pace of information to create an immersive and exciting experience.
We have learned and progressed significantly from our preliminary task to our final product. Initially, editing was very difficult as we were unfamiliar with the software. However, through practice we learned skills like sound editing, cropping, adding effects and transitions. Our camerawork also improved as we gained experience operating the camera and understanding different shot types. While our preliminary task shots were basic, our final product incorporated a variety of shots like over-the-shoulder and close ups to tell the story effectively. Overall, we learned to create a higher quality final product through skills like camera movement, adding soundtracks, and producing a more polished edit.
Our music video was created to conform to conventions from media to find the appropriate audience. We researched bands and focused on Andrew Goodwin's theories of music video relationships between music and visuals. We analyzed codes and conventions from other music videos and were able to challenge and develop these aspects in our own video. We chose a narrative theme inspired by "Mean Girls" and Lily Allen music videos. Our video uses conventions like costumes, locations, editing techniques and more to tell the story and relate to the target audience of females.
The document discusses which media institutions would be suitable to distribute the author's low-budget thriller film. It argues that television channels like Film4 would be the best option, as they often show similar low-budget and independent films, especially late at night when the film's darker content would be more appropriate. Film festivals could also provide an early screening and valuable feedback. Online streaming services like Netflix may also work well due to their willingness to show independent films at low cost. Cinemas and primetime television slots would not be viable given the film's low budget.

This document discusses the codes and conventions commonly used in thriller films. It provides examples from popular thriller movies like The Sixth Sense, Taken, Silent Hill, and Hanna. Many of the conventions discussed include the use of dull/dark colors to create a serious tone, tilted camera shots and quick editing to build tension, and false endings to mislead audiences about the plot. The examples demonstrate how specific shots use shadows, color contrasts, and framing to generate suspense and draw viewers into the experiences of characters.
The original purpose of music videos was to advertise and promote an artist's song in order to increase sales and boost their reputation. Music videos provide visual entertainment beyond just the music itself and are sometimes used to reinforce an artist's outrageous or flamboyant public image, such as Lady Gaga. While the earliest forms of music videos date back to the 1860s, the genre truly began emerging in the mid-20th century through musical films and movies that featured hit songs. Most modern music videos utilize similar conventions like various camera shots, movements, arrangements of performers and props, and editing techniques to both represent the mood or message of the song and set the artist and performance visually apart from other genres.
This document discusses the regulation of music videos in the UK by OFCOM. OFCOM creates laws around protecting those under 18, including observing the watershed hours of 9pm-5:30am. Music video channels like MTV edit videos to make them suitable for TV, banning or censoring videos with inappropriate content like sex, drugs, or violence. Certain popular music videos have been banned for their explicit lyrics or sexual imagery.
This document discusses the development of learning outcomes for building information modeling (BIM) within UK academic programs. It notes that the UK government has mandated the use of BIM on public projects by 2016. As a result, higher education institutions need to develop BIM skills in students. The BIM Academic Forum UK (BAF) was formed to address this need. The document describes a workshop hosted by BAF and the University of Salford to define BIM learning outcomes at various degree levels. Key findings from the workshop focused on upskilling faculty, improving student employability, establishing a framework for BIM learning, and keeping pace with changing BIM practices. The workshop helped advance BAF's goal of embedding appropriate B
This document discusses the current state of building information modeling (BIM) education in UK higher education institutions. It finds that while many programs have started incorporating BIM, there is a need for more guidance and consistency. A survey of institutions found that most have low BIM maturity levels and need more staff training. Challenges include keeping up with fast-changing BIM tools and engaging industry in curriculum development. The formation of the BIM Academic Forum aims to help institutions collaborate and improve BIM education standards.
