A Short Note On Alcohol, Tobacco, Marijuana, And Opioids
Julie Thao
HSCD 300 01
Essay 1
February 7th, 2016
1. The four most commonly used substances as described from the course textbook are alcohol,
tobacco, marijuana, and opioids. Alcohol is a translucent liquid in appearance and has a bitter acquired
taste which suppresses brain activity. The intake of alcohol effects the cerebral cortex by ceasing the
inhibition of user and develops a relaxed and more social characteristic in the way the user interacts
with others. As a depressant, the use of alcohol with its relaxing effect causes impairment in cognition
and ability to make effective decisions. Another effect caused by the intake of alcohol are increased
sex drive prior to the frontal lobe of the brain being under the influence of chemicals and damage to
the major brain neurotransmitters, which can lead to impairment of new memories. The effects that
alcohol are accountable for on the body are on the cardiovascular system and massive amounts of
alcohol use leading to intoxication can cause severe damage to the liver including the nervous system
resulting in death (Stevens, P., Smith, R. L., 2013).
Nicotine can be found in tobacco products an example is in cigarettes. It serves as a minor stimulant as
well as a sedative to the central nervous system. The effect nicotine gives off is known as a kick which
is caused by a discharge of epinephrine from the adrenal cortex, that stimulates the central nervous
system and endocrine glands to establish an immediate release

The Characters Of Aisha And Khadija
The Prophet s pietistic norms are archetypes in which Muslims, as a piety of knowledge, are intrigued
to comprehend more about the messenger s social gestures. There have been various inquiries
concerning the prophet s marriage, the traits of Muhammad as a husband and the normative of his
sexual life. Although the prophet had consummated his marriage with eleven of his thirteen wives,
Khadija and Aisha were the Prophet s most preference and beloved ones. No doubts, both Aisha and
Khadija manifested the entitlement The Mother of the Muslim Believers; though, they both embedded
different characters and witnessed the Prophet sexually in varying views. Therefore, the community
had portrait Aisha and Khadija s embodiments relatively to their suppositions of gender and sexuality,
since that Muhammad married both of his wives during discrete periods. In this Essay, I intend to
answer the exam s inquiry, thoroughly, through three factions: At first, providing both characters of
Aisha and Khadija. Secondly, representing clear differences in the way, they were told and the views
they described gender and sexuality. Finally, Juxtaposing the discrepancies between the two stories
and what they present.
Both Characters of Aisha and Khadija According to Ibn Ishaq chronicle of Khadija s social status prior
to her marriage to Muhammad, she was a wealthy respected women merchant in which many tribal
elites were burgeoned to propose marriage to her, though. Throughout what Khadija

The Importance Of Maternal And Child Health Progress On A...
Importance of Maternal and Child Health Progress on a Global Scale As one of the most significant
and pressing priorities of the Unites States government concerning global health, child and maternal
health is crucial and must be improved on an international level. Of all the Millennium Development
Goals, goals four and five have shown the least amount of progress. The goals which aim to reduce
child mortality and improve maternal health, respectively, have shown an embarrisingly minimal
amount of progress for the obstrusively simple solutions that accompany the situation. It is essential to
strengthen maternal and child health programs as it is a human rights issue as well as a health concern.
Women around the world deserve to have improved access to high quality services. (8) Policies
regarding health as well as multisectoral policies are vital in this effort as they will help in establishing
a healthy environment which will foster the proliferation and facilitation of interventions. Despite the
clear issues that require urgent addressing such as the stagnant maternal death rate and high newborn
mortality rates, other issues still require immediate attention as maternal and child health is an
incredibly important topic among organizations that are focusing on global health. The reason this
issue presents itself in urgency and is becoming a high priority does not solely rest in the severity of
the case. The problems that surround maternal and child health are so easily

Sectionalism Versus Nationalism and the Era of Good Feelings
After the war of 1812, there was a strong sense of nationalism since the young United States had won
a war against the powerful British Army. However, the loss of thousands of southern slaves and the
British embargo led both the north and the south to lament over the cost of the war. The time period
from 1815 1825 that some historians call the era of good feelings was not as positive a time period as
the title implies; factions ran rampant on the verge of causing an implosion for our country s political
system. The United States began to dissatisfy some of its citizens and so the concerns of sectionalism,
or the split of the country began to arise. There was a continuous riff between the south and the north
over a few issues, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another display of this was when the southern states wanted to add Missouri as a slave state,
according to document F, the north only would agree if the north was able to add Maine as a free state,
continuing to imply that the north and south would always disagree and be on other sides of an issue.
Unfortunately this came about since the fall of the Whig political party, the Democratic Republicans
had all the power so the states decided on presidents based on state interests rather than party interests.
According to document I, this worked in the beginning as Monroe was almost universally accepted,
but the next election led to major division of desired presidents and so limited the appeal and power of
such president. In conclusion, sectionalist ideas began to spread around the country and potentially
could have run the country into the ground. The country did hold manage to hold together due to the
nationalism that came about as a result of the war with Britain. According to document C, there was a
feeling of immense patriotism and nationalism on the Independence Day celebration as it reminded
people of the two wars they had won against Britain. In 1820, according to document I, the majority of
the states (all except Arkansas) voted for James Monroe clearly putting him in a position of respect
from a large portion of the country. The natives that were killed also may have led to some
nationalism as the southerners were less afraid of

The Role Of The Magi In The Bible
In the Bible, Matthew tells the story about magi from the east who followed a star to look for the baby,
who is the one has been born the king of Jews. Many people traditionally think there are three magi in
the Bible, because in Matthew s account there are three gifts given which were gold, incense, and
myrrh. However, the Bible does not say there were only three wise men. They could have been more.
So we do not know who are the people exactly because the Bible never mentioned it. The magi is a
counselor to a king. Tradition says that there were three magi and their names were Gaspar, Melchior,
and Balthasar, but since the Bible does not say, we have no way of knowing whether the tradition is
accurate. We know that the magi were wise men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They consulted with King Herod in Jerusalem concerning the birth of Christ and were directed to
Bethlehem (Matthew 2:4 8). They followed God s guidance joyfully (Matthew 2:10). Their gifts for
Jesus were costly, and they worshiped him. God warned them in a dream against returning to Herod,
so, in defiance of the king, they left Judea by another route. I have learned a lot from the magi. The
magi were men who read and believe God s word, sought Jesus, recognized the worth of Christ,
humbled themselves to worship Jesus, and obeyed God rather than man. They are the truly wise men (
What does the Bible say about the three wise men (Magi)? ). Matthew 2:2 impressed me the most. The
wise men, who are the magi, used days, months, or possibly even years to follow the star of Jesus and
come to him. I am going to apply this to my own life. I need to learn from the magi, I need to worship
God joyfully, worship him from the bottom of my heart, not just because I am in a Christian school
and live with a Christian family. I need to read more Bible and trust God totally not lean on myself. I

Mass Spectrometry ( Working Principle )
Mass Spectrometry (Working Principle) What is mass spectrometry? According to the website
premierbiosoft.com mass spectrometry is a capable scientific procedure used to evaluate known
materials, to distinguish obscure mixes inside an example, and to illustrate the structure and substance
properties of various molecules. The entire procedure includes the change of the example into
vaporous particles, with or without fracture, which are then described by their mass to charge
proportions (m/z) and relative abundances. This is basically a technique that study the effect of
ionizing energy on molecules. In the event that something is moving and you subject it to a sideways
drive, rather than moving in a straight line, it will move in a bend diverted out of its unique way by the
sideways compel. Assume you had a cannonball going past you and you needed to redirect it as it
passed by you. All you have is a fly of water from a hose pipe that you can squirt at it. To be perfectly
honest, it won t have a considerable measure of effect! Since the cannonball is so overwhelming, it
will scarcely be avoided at all from its unique course. Be that as it may, assume rather, you attempted
to avoid a table tennis ball going at an indistinguishable speed from the cannonball utilizing similar fly
of water. Since this ball is so light, you will get an immense avoidance. The measure of avoidance you
will get for a given sideways drive relies on upon the mass of the ball. In the event that

A Supposedly Fun Thing I Ll Never Do Again Analysis
Can you choose something when you are forcefully and enthusiastically immersed in it at an age when
the resources and information necessary for choosing are not yet yours? (228). In A Supposedly Fun
Thing I ll Never Do Again by David Foster Wallace the audience is taken into the author s life, from
childhood to adulthood. Wallace went on different journeys and he tells the reality of all of them, both
what he expected and what truly happened. He is trying to assure the audience that even though
expectations are meant to tell someone exactly what will happen, do not believe that and follow your
own path in life. The idea that expectations can be so unrealistic it can change a person until they

Wallace uses quotes from many different people throughout the novel, whether he has known them for
a long time or had just met them. These quotes add to the theme of the story because it gives other
characters input besides the authors alone. It proves that others think this way as well and expect
something to be a certain way, when in reality it happens to be the complete opposite. Wallace
expected a Midwesterner, who he was interviewing at a state fair, about what others thought of what
she did, he asked, So this doesn t bother you? As a Midwesterner, you re unbothered? Or did you just
not have an accurate sense of what was going on back there? The lady simply replied with, So if I
noticed or I didn t, why does it have to be my deal? What, because there s assholes in the world I don t
get to ride on The Zipper? I don t ever get to spin? Maybe I shouldn t ever go to the pool or get all
girled up, just out of fear of assholes? (101). After Wallace asks how this woman feels and what others
say she should feel after her embarrassment, and instead of being terrified she did not seem to care.
The woman told Wallace that just because she should feel a certain way does not mean she will,
insisting that she can do whatever she pleases, even after many people tell her she should not.
Following talking to that woman, Wallace interviewed a gentleman during the same fair. He asked the
man, But would they want to? Your kids I mean. Would they want to hit the Hollow, ride the rides, eat
all butter fudge, test various skills, mingle a little? (110). Most people would expect this man to say
yes because that is what a great deal of people go to the fair for. Instead the man replies, Hail no. We
all come for the shows (110). The majority of people at the fair may stop to visit the

The Columbine Shooting Essay
The Columbine Shooting A little over two years ago, one of the worst tragedies concerning our nation
s children was playing out in a small rural town in Colorado. The date was April 20, 1999; the
anniversary of Adolf Hitler s Birthday, for any history buffs. But for everyone else the day started out
like any other. In Jefferson County (often mistakenly reported as being in Littleton), Colorado,
children went to school and parents went off to work. Neither was overly concerned about the other, or
about how the day would go, but in a few hours, that would all change. Kleboldharris also went off to
school that fateful day in April. Only they knew that this day was anything but ordinary. This was the
day that they had been waiting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though there was a thorough investigation, there are many questions that still surround this
tragedy. What caused these two teenagers to go to such drastic measures? Why was no one able to stop
them? Were there any signs that this kind of destruction was in the making? But, more importantly,
what has been the aftermath of this horrible massacre? These questions don t have any definite
answers, but speculations are more than abundant. In what was to become known as the basement
tapes , kleboldharris gave the most revealing insight into their psyche. In these tapes kleboldharris say
that they were natural born killers. If we are to be held to this kind of thinking then we are to believe
that some people are just plain evil, and there is nothing that can be done to stop them. But there were
warning signs. And with warning signs, there is an opportunity for intervention. The most easily
identifiable accomplice in hardening the hearts of kleboldharris lies in the media. From video games
to movies, violence and callousness towards violence is everywhere. The shock jock , Howard Stern,
was the most distasteful of the crowd. Immediately after the shootings he made comments about the
girls running out of Columbine, screaming and waving their arms in the air, as being sexy. He claimed
that if he was going to shoot them, he would first have had sex with them. He also made comments

articles, commentaries and interviews that illuminate the movement to establish a Black identity,

The Politics of Black Space theme of the publication chronicles the movement of Black student and

Students have always disrupted the status quo and compelling social and institutional change. The

SNCC s community organizing and activism made them foremost and successful contributors in the

The Similarities Between The Ancient And Modern Olympic Games
While there are clear contrasts between the ancient and the modern Olympics there is still the respect
for the athlete striving to perform at the highest level. Today, the Olympic Games are the world s
largest carnival of athletic skill and competitive spirit. They are displays of nationalism, commerce,
and politics. These important elements of the Olympics are not a modern invention, as the first
Olympics was in 776 BC in Ancient Greece. After 1503 years, in 1896 the Olympic Games were
recreated as what we know today. The Ancient Games were once dedicated to the Olympian God,
Zeus Olympios and were staged on the ancient plains of Olympia, which is also how the word
Olympics originated from. The modern Olympics is the largest international sporting event, which
feature both summer and winter sports competitions in which thousands of respectable athletes from
over 200 different nations compete against one another. There are clear contrast between the modern
and ancient forms of the Olympic Games regarding uniforms, participants, religion, events, politics
and the concept of amateurism. However both the Ancient Greeks and the people in the modern world
still respect and admire the athletics achievements of the participants making the Olympics the most
highly regarded contest in sport.

Comparing the Three Proposals that Elizabeth Receives in Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice
Jane Austen s novel, Pride and Prejudice, contains many opinions given by the narrator about the
characters, but the true personalities are shown in the way their feelings and words are portrayed.
Austen uses dramatic irony to allow the reader to appreciate the hidden feelings of the characters. The
unseen feelings of Elizabeth, Mr Darcy and Mr Collins are revealed to others in the novel during the
three proposals that occur.

During Mr Collins proposal he lists his personal reasons for marriage, and why she should say yes. He
does express reasons why Elizabeth would want to marry him, but Austen shows them as being false,
which makes him seem selfish. His first reason is to set an example for his parish, which makes him
appear pompous. It is ironic because marriage is meant to prove your love for each other, but he wants
to set an example to his parish without doing loving the person he intends to marry. Austen uses this to
emphasize his unintelligence, and lack of perception. He then tells her that it will add very greatly to
his happiness. He does not mention how Elizabeth would feel, and how he could make her happy. This
proves that he is selfish and only cares for himself. The last reason he gives, which he believes is the

Tolerance and withdrawal of an addictive substance is what I believe causes the most damage to the
biological and social health of an individual because, with tolerance, a person needs more of a drug in
order to achieve the same effects they felt previously with smaller amounts. And with withdrawal, a
series of symptoms that may appear when a drug on which a user is physically dependent is stopped or
significantly reduced. The withdrawal symptoms vary depending on a range of factors including the
drug type and tend to be opposite to the effects produced by the drug. The body is always trying to

Leadership In New Mexico
Each state is given their set of leaders. These leaders are normally voted in by the state they want a
position in. New Mexico is no exception. It should be known that all leadership is appointed by God.
Therefore, we must submit to the leaders he has put in position. We must follow them unless what
they want is against the word of God. Speaking of leaders, knowledge about current and future leaders
is important to stay informed on. Since we have the right to vote, it is smart to know what we are

limitedly interested when I read the main headline, Suffrage Amendment Adopted by House. Then I
went on to reading the article, Weekend Golf Tourney Honors Vet Ted Rhodes. It caught my attention
because my dad is a veteran. Lastly, I found the article titled, New and Destructive Gun very
interesting to read about. These three articles all hold different historical value. ????
The first one I looked was the Suffrage Amendment Adopted by House. This appeared in the
Nashville Tennessean, August 19, 1920. This article was about giving women the right to vote.
Tennessee was the thirty sixth state to pass the amendment. This gave the United States ... Show more

A History Of The English Church And People
When Bede was writing A History of the English Church and People the conflicts between Christians
and pagans were still not long a ago and Christianity was not yet as dominant in England as it would
be in the future. Therefore, the memories of these conflicts were still fresh within some people s minds
and Bede made sure to record it. Bede wrote the history of past events of Christianity s struggles, the
great men that protected it and enforced it. He wrote so that Christians would have an example on how
to act in order to achieve greatness, how to avoid sin and how to strengthen Christianity and the
Church itself in England. Bede thought that greatness is achieved only in one way and that was being
a good, devout Christian. He used the history of King Oswald s life as an example of what it meant to
be great and what are the rewards for achieving greatness. He wished everyone who read his history to
follow in Oswald s footsteps as he continuously mention in his written work history records good
things of good men, the thoughtful hearer is encouraged to imitate what is good . He gives many
examples of Oswald s deeds as a devout Christian, but his number one achievement was bringing the
faith to the lands of Bernicia. He came to Bernicia to fight heathen kings while at the same time
showing a great trust in God, as before the battle he set up a holy cross and made everyone in his army
pray before upcoming battles. it seems that there was no evidence of the

The Tuskegee Experiments
The Tuskegee Experiments arose from a curiosity in the progression of syphilis is African American
men. In 1932, a study was set up, meant to observe the consequence of syphilis (Brandt, 2012). This
was done despite the result of the Rosenwald Study in 1929. The Rosenwald Study found that mass
treatment of the African American population in Macon County, the site of the Tuskegee Experiments,
was possible (Brandt, 2012). Six hundred African American men participated in this study: 399 men
with syphilis, serving as the test subjects; and 201 men without syphilis, serving as the controls. The
experiment was meant to last only 6 months, but ended after 40 years when a story about the Tuskegee
experiments was released to the public (CDC, 2015). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This occurs when the red blood cells of a person with the disease has an abnormal form of hemoglobin
called Hb S. Instead of the biconcave disk shape, the red blood cells are long, stiff, rod like structures,
making it easier for the cell to rupture. The cells also have difficulty moving through blood vessels
and can cause clots (Tortora and Derrickson, 2014). As of now, the only cure for sickle cell anemia is a
bone marrow or stem cell transplant, though there are various treatments that can ease the symptoms
and prolong life (CDC, Jan 2016). Sickle cell anemia is very dangerous to have as the patient would
experience blood loss and require blood transfusions, and they would also be exposed to infection
(CDC, June 2016). The disease is inherited and is most commonly found in populations with ancestors
from sub Saharan Africa, Spanish speaking regions, Saudi Arabia, India, and Mediterranean countries.
In the United States, about 1 in 365 African American births have sickle cell disease (CDC, Feb 2016).
In areas where malaria is prevalent, there is selective pressure for sickle cell trait (individuals who
have one sickle cell gene and one normal gene, also called carriers). It is accepted that there are
multiple mechanisms for how the sickle cell gene can block malarial infection (Gong et al., 2013;
Bunn, 2013). A mechanism described in early studies proposed a model where P. falciparum is unable
to grow and develop due to the oxidative stress placed on the red blood cell. In a sickle cell trait red
blood cell, the cell would become sickled due to oxygen consumption from the parasite (Bunn, 2013).
Other mechanisms include impairment of adhesion, and inhibition of transcription by host microRNAs

The Corruption Of Saddam Hussein
Throughout history corruption has been laid upon many countries changing it in numerous ways. This
corruption derives through certain people, creating a havoc for those having to follow orders set by
leaders they blindly follow. In Iraq, citizens have been tortured, forced to relocate their families,
arrested and murdered. All of this happened under the control of Saddam Hussein and we have neither
found, nor did he offer an explanation to these actions. He has been notorious for attacking people
who disagreed with his opinions, especially other politicians that would give any sort of competition
to access leadership for Iraq. He is responsible for persecuting and denying his own citizens human
rights. Not only physically but financially, spending all of the countries money on monuments and
palaces as he watches his people die from malnutrition and lack of medical attention.
Saddam Hussein was born on April 28, 1937 in a village called Ouja, near Tikrit in Northern Iraq, He
grew up in a broken home, His family was poor, they were peasants who did not have a home. He
grew up without a father, it is unknown if his father died or disappeared when he was younger. When
he was still a child, he was sent to live with his uncle, Khairallah Tulfah, who made a deep impact on
what Hussein later did in his life. There is proof that Saddam was connected to violence at an early
age. There are several reports that link him to the murders of a school teacher and/or a

Comparison Of The Movie And The Book
Watching the movie is so much more interesting, and it grabs your
imagination by the hand. There are not that many things that are different in the
movie. In fact the movie describes what?s going on a little better than the book.
Basically the book seems like an out line of the whole story and the book gets
into details a little more.
In the beginning of the book it talks about Tad going to bed and how
he?s a little nervous because he thinks there is a monster under his bed. His
father tucks him into bed and says good night. About 10 minutes later Tad
wakes up screaming his head off saying he sees a monster in his closet. The

Tad plays with Cujo for the first time. I
mean there are only small little things that are different in the book and movie.
Like when Tad wakes up the next morning there are couches and books in front
of his closet door (in the movie). Another comparison would be when Vic?s
wife cheats on him with Steve Kemp. Book talks about Steven a little, doesn?t?
really get into detail. It doesn?t talk about what he looks like or what attracts
her to him. The only really big change that is really noticeable would be when
Cujo attacks Vic?s wife and his son Tad, while they are still stuck in the car.
The book talks about how Cujo does run into the car and how he transfers
rabies into the mother but what it doesn?t talk about is how violent Cujo is. He
was going nuts trying to get into the car. He would run so hard into the car it
would knock him out, he?d get right back up again and run straight for the car.
Being a mother and watching our child die is hard enough but knowing that
your going to die of rabies is even harder. After she barely cracks the car door
open, Cujo frantically jumps in the car on top of her biting and tearing up her
leg. The only thing she could do is bang Cujo over the head with her thermos.
That?s the biggest difference between the book and movie.
Reading books isn?t the greatest thing in the world for me, but when

Essay On Karl Marx Exploitation Theory
Karl Marx: management practices, exploitation and manipulation.
In his book ( removed HTML ) , Karl Marx examined the labour process in capitalism economic and
explained how capitalists exploit the labouring classes by appropriating the surplus value produced by
labour, which is the value or output in excess of the value of their wages. The concept of the
exploitation theory applies to the labour process in all class divided societies, not only capitalism
[Buchanan, 1979]. Workers are either forced to work by their feudal lord under feudalism or by their
lack of ownership of the means of production under capitalism. Marx s exploitation theory implies
there is always exploitation as long as there is profit. Since Marx developed his exploitation theory
hundreds years ago, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly the capitalists expect a fair profit on the risk of capital investment, otherwise capitalists won t
invest. Therefore workers won t have job. Secondly the add value from the management practices
should not be taken for granted. Marx also did not foresee the evolution of capitalism and the role for
the governments. Capitalism has to promote mandatory humanity and working conditions required by
the government regulators and pressure of the society. Capitalists cannot force workers to work for
long hours any more. And in the free labour market, they also have to pay workers the market price for
the work they do; otherwise the workers would go to other places. Capitalists cannot exploit workers
like the way they did hundreds years ago. Many organizations (capitalists) turn to management
practices to improve efficiency and productivity, so they can reduce the cost of production and in
return increase the profit. Are management practices and exploitation or manipulation? In order to
answer this question, firstly we need to understand the definition of management; secondly we

The Optimistic Philosophy in Candide by Voltaire Essay
Why do bad things happen to good people? A question often asked by...well, by just about everyone. It
is a frequently asked question that philosophers and religious figures have tried to answer for centuries
yet no one can pinpoint the answer. Candide is no doubt Voltaire s response to the answer given by
some of the philosophers of his time. The philosophy discussed throughout the novel gives meaning to
the story itself and contributes to and carries on throughout the entire story.
In the Baron s castle somewhere in Germany the main characters reside for a short time. Pangloss, the
philosopher and teacher of the Baron s children, has a radical philosophy on life and passes it to his
students. This philosophy doesn t help them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Providing a simple explanation for Pangloss optimistic philosophy that we live in the best of all
possible worlds this quote appears in the first chapter of the story and sets up one of the main themes
throughout the novel. It s basically the logic behind Pangloss philosophy, though it makes no sense. It
seems quite obvious that spectacles were designed to fit the nose and not the other way around. These
are the first of many very illogical arguments to support his philosophy. As the novel progresses this
philosophy goes under brutal attacks by the misfortunes the characters come across again and again
throughout their lives. It also sets up the never ending debate between those characters with the
optimistic view and those with the pessimistic view. Voltaire uses Pangloss philosophy to demonstrate
a point. Because he so strongly opposes this philosophy it s a recurring theme in the novel.
The optimistic view is also the main example of satire from Voltaire in the novel and this is probably
the purpose for writing the novel. It could be interpreted as his response to philosophers of the time,
G.W. von Leibniz in particular. Leibniz claimed that because God is perfect, all good and all powerful,
He wouldn t create a less than perfect world; therefore, we live in the best of all possible worlds.
Leibniz also said that evil is

Analysis Of Grave Of The Fireflies
The film Grave of The Fireflies directed by Isao Takahata is based off true events and is set in Japan
during World War 2, we have seen many movies set in the time of world war two however there are
few movies which are portrayed from the losing side Japan. The movie follows two kids witnessing a
bombing of their home, which subsequently killed their mother due to her being burned by the fire
bombs. The movie is shown through the perspective of the boy s ghost as it follows the life of himself
and his younger sister through hardship and war. We see how the boy must step up to take care of his
sister due to their mother s death and the father who is at war, we see the bond between the brother
and the sister goes beyond this life as the sister s ghost watches over him and waits for him in the
afterlife. I am going to be analysing two scenes in the film which shape the film because they have the
most importance or detail in them. Scene 1 The scene starts with Seita unveiling a bucket and
watching as fireflies disperse into the shelter that him and his sister are living in. We see, as the
fireflies are released and lighting up the shelter and the faces of the kids as this gives them hope and a
distraction of their harsh world that they are both living in. The siblings lie down and watch as the
fireflies disperse throughout the shelter, we then see a different light in the shelter we can see a distinct

Dreams have broader representation than languages can provide. The symbols of our dreams are
deeper expressions than we can come up.
Dreams are lower base layer of processing that cannot easily be interpret in ordinary language.
Since all forms of languages are defined by their limitation, they can only represent a subset of the
messages dreams can convey, and they go much deeper than language. People become bewildered

The Devaluation And Depreciations Of Australian Dollar...
This article is mainly focus on the devaluation and depreciations of Australian dollar against US
dollar, euro, pound and yen comparing in terms of floating exchange rate. The phenomena behind
fixed exchange rate and floating rate is; fixed exchange rate is a rate that is set or fixed by the
government or central bank to maintain its currency against gold or another major currency such US
dollar or the currency basket. In fixed exchange rate, the country s central bank or other concerns will
maintain exchange rate by buying and selling its own currency on foreign exchange. The article was
focusing on successful parties and defeated parties due to Australian dollar fluctuations.
The effect of depreciation and devaluation of currency is mixed on whole economy, as if exporters are
in good place but if they are relaying on imported machinery, fuel, fertilizers and other imported
inputs, so falling Australian dollar will raise the cost of these products. Same goes with people
travelling to their home land at Christmas time or travelling in holidays they find it feasible to convert
the currency rather than wait for Australian dollar to grow.
The reasons that depreciates Australian dollar are as follows, though in the article main focus was on
interest rates and inflation but the discussion will not be completed if under the carpet factors are not
discussed:
a. Inflation

The Theory Of Decision Making
In our everyday life we are in front of multiple decisions to take, from the easy ones as what coffee to
get to the more complicated ones, as what jobs to apply for. The word Decision originated from Latin
word de ciso which indicates cutting off . This implicates that the act of deciding is to come to a
conclusion among different options. How many options are available though? Throughout the years,
many behavioural scientists proposed different theories in order to explain how we face decisions and
act before them. Do we calculate them all accurately before cutting off ? One of the most recognized
theories for decision making is the von Neumann Morgenstern utility theorem (1944), which states
that the decision maker in front of all the different choices will behave as if he is maximizing the
expected value of some function defined over the potential outcomes. Based on the expected utility,
the von Neumann Morgenstern model is constructed upon the fundamental assumption that humans
behave in a perfect rational way being able to calculate all the options and choosing among them the
one that allows to maximize the expected utility. However, as the major critics to this model sustain,
individuals are not fully rational when taking decisions. Their cognitive process is limited to the
complexity of the environment in which they are taking decisions. The homo economicus is portrayed
as capable of solving complex problems of optimization of resources allocation as well as

A Brief Note On Sectionalism And The American Civil War
Sectionalism, in it s earliest American state was found in the early 1800 s. Tensions were high during
this time, with Slavery becoming a much more Sectional issue. The South claimed Slavery a
Necessary Evil, and that without it, the South s economy would collapse. Many in the South believed
it was a positive thing, providing slaves with shelter, food, and many cases, religion. On the opposite
side, many northerners called for Abolition, or, the end of slavery ( Course Notes, Sectionalism and
Slavery ). This ongoing conflict caused further splitting of the Union, with each side s ideals being
complete 180° of each others . This political split lay almost exactly on the nation s regional line
splitting the north and south, beginning to cut the once united nation into said sections. This small
crack would be a tiny spark that light the tinder of one of the bloodiest wars the United States had ever
participated in, the American Civil War. Where brother killed brother, and children as young as middle
schoolers would be admitted into the army to fight in some of the bloodiest, brutal battles in american
history ( Course Notes, Sectionalism and Slavery ). .Obviously, sectioning and splitting a once
strongly united country will have a huge impact upon said country. The strong controversy of Slavery,
along with several smaller conflicts at the time were wedging the crack further apart, allowing the

Richard III and the Stability of England
Richard became King of England on July the sixth 1483 after the heir to the throne was proclaimed
illegitimate. Whether this claim was true or not is questionable. During Richards reign, the stability of
England has been debated. Was he the ruler England needed to end the Wars of the Roses and bring
stability back to the English people? Or did he cause England to be restless and unsettled? Is it a good
thing that Henry Tudor defeated him in the Battle of Bosworth? This essay will look at the different

Richard had strong foreign policies, which helped to make England stable. He made good alliances
with France by building on previous victories and signing a three year truce. This made England stable
because there was less worry of having to watch the Scots and make sure they do not start a fight. This
made the people of England feel safer because they did not agree with fighting because of all the
people who died.
Another factor making England stable and strong under Richards reign was his support. Although it
has been said that he was only popular in the North and that the South disliked him this can be proved
somewhat untrue because it was the people of London who voted for him to be king. This proved that
he had won the support of most of Britain, this was probably because people knew that he had been a
loyal supporter of his brother during his reign and most people had liked Edward IV.
Buckingham s rebellion was dealt with effectively and discreetly to prevent publicity. If the rebellion
had been made a bid deal of people might have started to doubt the capability of their ruler.
Another reason why England was seen as stable during Richards s reign was that he managed to
refrain from having any civil war during his time on throne. This was helpful because civil war caused
death and if there had been the country would have been seen as unstable. England

of religions, and the beliefs associated with different religions, can be accomplished in many ways,
such as training courses, workshops or company handouts (Thomas Kochan, 2003, p. 4). Companies
must embrace multiculturalism and diversity. The impact of diversity is a successful learning
experience for companies, and is equally as important to a company as its mission statement because
of the educational and work ethics of its employees. Awareness and knowledge of diversity in addition
to the similarities that humans possess can build relationships between employees and employers.
Diversity helps employees and employers to be well educated and informed as to what forms a person
s values, attitudes, and behaviors. Many organizations are beginning to view diversity as an
organizational change. This could possibly mean changes in the power dynamics and organizational
structure, the way decisions are made, and the way an

Similarities Between Redon And David Hockney
Artists often use their personal perceptions as a stimulus for their artwork. They are able to use their
work to express a certain viewpoint they may have on a subject. Well renowned artists, Odilon Redon
and David Hockney have both manipulated their artistic abilities to express their perceptions through
their work with their art movements. Redon is a renowned 18th 19th century French symbolist artist
whose works revolve around his dreams, fantasy and imagination, The Cyclops (1914), being one of
his most recognised paintings. David Hockney is a painter and photographer and is considered one of
the most influential British artists of the 20th century, a prime example of his work being, A Bigger
Splash (1966.) Both artworks reflect the artist s personal perceptions and contain similarities and
differences with their movements, intentions and use of stylistic features.
At the beginning of his career, Redon s works were exclusively in black and white in lithographic
prints and charcoal. His works consisted of a monochromatic colour scheme representing symbolism
in his unusual dreamlike creations, called noirs. In an interview, Redon stated that his noirs are his
most personal expressions. These works were a product of his creative imagination of depictions of
his knowledge and perception on evolution theories, presented by Charles Darwin at the time. The
noirs were also a reflection on his pessimism and melancholy, particularly as a child, and a
representation of how he views the world. Contradictory to his early works, Redon transfigured into
non naturalistic colour themed pastels and oil paintings. Many of these oeuvres were abstract,
generally constructed of an ethereal chromatic background with a focal subject and an overall hazy
appeal.
The Cyclops is a versatile example of Redon s work as it is an oil painting with noir themes. The
artwork illustrates a mountain and rocky landscape, with a Cyclops creature emerging from behind the
tall mountain in the background of the scenario. Slightly off centre to the right there is a naked woman
who appears to be sleeping peacefully amongst the abstract plantation on the hill. The focal point of
the painting is the cyclops, and its large eye that is

Dna Synthesis Case Study
To achieve accuracy of DNA replication after the unwinding of DNA, the DNA must be synthesized.
DNA synthesis, in the case, the two strands are disconnected and then turned into single stranded
DNA. This is called replication fork. The replication fork acts as a model for DNA synthesis.
However, the site of impaired or mutated DNA can cause a lower rate pf success for DNA synthesis.
Impaired DNA can also lead to unprocessed and unligated okazaki fragments. Okazaki frgaments are
small DNA fragments that are linked to the lagging strand of DNA. The research article suggest that
okazaki fragemts should be tracked for the benefit of cancer patients. For instamce, the lack of DNA
ligase 1 is caused by the delay of okazaki frgaments. DNA ligase 1 ... Show more content on

An ubiquitin can change the way a cell functions or even where the call is located. The researchers
then use a cdc9 with a wild type of DNA ligase 1 to determine whether PCNA ubiquitination happens
because of the nicked DNA or because of the lack of PCNA DNA ligase interaction. While reviewing
this, they noticed that the cdc9 mutants come to a halt during the later phases of the cell cycle and they
collect unligated okazaki fragments. THis proves that PCNA ubiquitination occurs because of the
nicked DNA. The nicks are left behind for repairin the last phase of the cell cycle, G2. Although they
discovered this, they alos discovered that breaks in the DNA were present in the cdc9 mutants. They
caused the replication forks to be held up. These breaks need to be repair via HR. To repair the breaks
they suggest RAD52 to be used. Unfortunately, RAD52 was unsuccessful and did not interact with the
mutant. They then test if RAD59 can be used to repair the breaks. THey recognize that RAD59 played
an important role in supporting the kinase needed for checkpoint activation of the cell cycle, known s
Mec1. However, RAD59instead deactivated Mec1 by restraining a protein coding gene called

Henry V And Saint Joan
In both the plays, Henry V and Saint Joan, the treacherous battle between the French and the English
is taking place, and both characters claim to be the answer to their country s problems. In the end, both
end up being great leaders, but getting their titles took slightly different challenges due to their
genders. Throughout the plays Henry and Joan were treated and viewed differently by their people
because Henry was a guy, who is seen to be more trustworthy, and Joan is a girl, and is not meant for
being in a battle, and especially not for leading one. In the play Saint Joan, Joan is treated significantly
different due to her gender of being a female. She is left constantly defending and proving herself to
the leaders of France. For example ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Scene 1 of Saint Joan, and in Act IV scene 3 of Henry v, both Henry and Joan both appeal to ethos
to try to persuade their men and leaders to trust them, and to get them to understand that they will be
great leaders if those people can put their trust into their hands. For example in Act four scene three of
Henry V, Henry states, By Jove, I am not covetous for gold Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost; It
yearns me not if men my garments wear; Such outward things dwell I my desires (line 26 29). Henry
is trying to appeal to his men to go into battle with everything they have. He is going to stand next to
them and show them that he s just like them, and that he will be next to him, because he s one of them.
In Scene 1 of the play Saint Joan, Joan is trying to get Robert to trust her and states, Please do, squire.
The horse will cost sixteen francs. It is a good deal of money: but I can save it on the armor. I can find
a soldier s armor that will fit me well enough: I am very hardy; and I do not need beautiful armor
made to my measure like you wear. I shall not want many soldiers: the Dauphin will give me all I need
to raise the siege of Orleans (Saint Joan). Joan is also appealing to ethos because she knows the only
way that she will get what she wants is for the men to trust her, and believe that what she is saying is

Essay on The Million Man March by Maya Angelou
Almost a million people who were deprived of any sort of human rights had stood up against the
government to make a change. The voices of the people come from the poem A Million Man March
by Maya Angelou which proves that together people can make a big difference even when they go
against the government. Before this big change had happened though the dark skinned part of the
nation were treated horribly and were pushed over the edge, this was explained using imagery. Also a
stanza was repeated very often to remind people of the horrors they had to go through and that is s
time for change using the power of metaphors. Finally during the march there was a fair amount of
repetition which was used to make the people stronger and more ... Show more content on

For a long time the participants had suffered from being treated almost inhuman like but there was a
moment when the blacks where ready to stand up and fight for their rights. Maya Angelou used lots of
metaphors to describe the people s feelings and make the reader fell them too: I say the night has been
long (The Million Man March, line 1 but repeated through out the poem). The nigh has been long is
used metaphorically to say that enough suffering has been endured. This quote is related to suffering
because when darkness is present monsters and such lurk about (scared). I say is metaphorically used
to show strength and leadership. So I say the night has been long stands for stop being cowardly, you
don t need to suffer just come together with all your strength. Although Maya Angelou is showing that
the participants have strength she also shows where it s coming from: The wound has been deep, the
pit has been dark and the walls have been steep (The Million Man March, lines 2 4 but repeated
through out the poem). These phrases remind the people of what they had to endure in life and they
get strength from this to go against the government and make a change. The wound has been deep
represents the pain the dark skinned people had to endure in their lives which they know their children
might have to too. The pit has been dark and the

That audience is the intersection of people who like video games and people who like action stories
with deep character development. According to a 2015 Pew Research Center study, 49% of American
adults play video games (PEW STUDY page 1). An oddity between the genders is also seen as the
roles reverse for different age groups. Among 18 29 year olds 77% of men and 57% of women play,
while the percentages are almost the same between genders for ages 30 49, and then for 50 and older
38% of women play while only 29% of men do (PEW STUDY page 2). This means that there are
about 118 million Americans who are potential customers (reference.com) In addition, according to
the Entertainment Software Association, 11.4% of all video games sold in 2015 were story based role
playing games, which came to 1.88 billion dollars in total sales. In the industry, Bioware has a
reputation for deep character development, strong male and female characters, good humor, and
engaging plots. On their webstite, Twitter, and Facebook pages, Bioware is attempting to display at

Disney Negative Image
Some Disney Films Portray a Negative Image on Kids Lives in Today s World
I. Introduction
a. The image that Disney s films portray their stories is a very powerful product that can influence our
kids in a negative way.
b. One example of this is the film The Princess and the Frog. In this movie, we can see that an African
American girl named Tiana lived poor in the 1920 s. The plot of this story is that this poor girl wanted
to finish the dream of her father, which is to create a restaurant.
c. Like most of Disney s movies, the damsel in distress ends up marrying the prince charming,
resolving all her social and economic problems. This kind of message to a little girl can create a wrong
image of what her life should be like. Therefore, it portrays a negative influence in a young girl life.
d. THESIS STATEMENT: Disney films create a fantasy world that young audience capture as an
example of how life should be. This creates an issue, because it teaches kids that money is the solution
for all problems by selling your dignity, they also teach that hard work is not enough in order to
accomplish your dreams, and they also label the difference in social status.
II. BODY ONE
a. Disney films create a fantasy world, which misleads kids imagination of how the real world should
be lived.
b. In most of the Disney films, money is a factor to save the lives of the main characters. This was not
the exception in the film The Princess and the Frog.
1. As part of her solution, Tiana has to kiss the frog, which is a prince and in return he would give her
money to by the old mill. She ends up giving him the kiss for the money he promised.
2. Even though this scene seems harmless, this is an example of how Disney films are portraying a
negative influence on how a girl sells herself to get the money she needs.
3. The message here is that it is acceptable to sell your dignity for money in return for what you need.
4. For younger kids this can be an example of how to acquire things in life.
III. BODY TWO
a. In this film, they also teach that hard work is not enough in order to accomplish your dreams.
1. Throughout the film, Tiana is depicted to be a hard worker. She is also portrayed following the
values her parents taught her.
2.

The Death Of The Street
It was nine o clock although it could have been midnight. The main street was deserted except for a
man pulling his bull terrier away from the base of a lamp post. An ambulance siren wailed in the
distance. Occasionally, a car hissed past spitting up spray. Persistent winter rain permeated my fur
coat, saturated my hair and drooled down my face into my scarf. I was cold wet and eager to get
indoors. Long dark and menacing. Though dark, the alley lured me in with the promise of a speedy
arrival home. Momentarily I hesitated at its entrance. A hundred yards away stood a single street lamp
that offered a dim amber light at the alleyway s turning. The pole of the street light had been defaced
with rude drawings of body parts and derogatory words. My gut feeling told me to leave this
unfamiliar alley and quickly. but down the alley, past the turning and another 20 yards and I would be
home. 120 yards and 3 minutes rather than 300 yards and 10 minutes. Although I was hesitant I took
the first step into the alley as warmth and dry clothes beckoned. I walked on in fear.
As I proceeded into the alley the weeping trees poked at my neck and snagged at my hair. Sounds of
the unknown rustled through the overgrown bushes that had become infested with sweet wrappers and
empty beer cans. The wind blew hard carrying an old crisp packet from one overgrown bush to the
next. Embedded in the bushes was a long piece of white and blue tape that blew in the violent wind. It
had been impaled by a

Film Analysis Of Fight Club
Fight Club is the opposite of Watchmen, the style of David Fincher and his faded green aesthetic fit
perfectly in the world of Fight Club and help to give the Film a sense of identity that wouldn t exist if
the film was created by a lesser director. The way this Film is shot, the editing, the score, it all
combines to help tell the story in a new way that feels entirely separate from the book. Additionally,
Fincher works to bring the concepts of the book to life through adaptation not translation, he knows
that many of the themes and ideas of the book will not work if simply ripped out of the page and
thrown on screen. He decided early on that the Novel would have to change to fit the screen, he knows
that communicating messages across ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Things like The lady sitting next to Jack in the airplane wearing glasses and a red coat and then Tyler
pops up in the exact same spot, wearing similar clothing. Mirrors not showing the reflection of Tyler
or Marla, Bob s shirt being burned to the car wreck that Jack is investigating. Hell, there s an entire
section about how dildos in the Film relate to how the Film is actually a metaphor for Jack s sexual
identity and the battle between Masculinity (Represented by Tyler) and Femininity (Represented by
Marla) happening in Jack s head. Now hearing these ideas from me with no proof may make them
seem far fetched, but I really recommend you go to the site and read up on it. I won t cover it here
because I can t say anymore without simply stealing the author s intellectual property, but I think you
get the point; Fight Club is a testament not only to adaptations but also to masterful filmmaking.
The edit at the beginning of this section showing Jared Leto falling to the ground was no accident.
Watch it again, you can tell that Sound is taken full advantage of. Whereas a book would never have
that sound, in the fight club you aren t reading Fight Club you re feeling it in your gut.
Fight Club is a success in terms of an adaptation and of well done filmmaking. Why Watchmen fails is
a complete lack of Identity

  • 2. A Short Note On Alcohol, Tobacco, Marijuana, And Opioids Julie Thao HSCD 300 01 Essay 1 February 7th, 2016 1. The four most commonly used substances as described from the course textbook are alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and opioids. Alcohol is a translucent liquid in appearance and has a bitter acquired taste which suppresses brain activity. The intake of alcohol effects the cerebral cortex by ceasing the inhibition of user and develops a relaxed and more social characteristic in the way the user interacts with others. As a depressant, the use of alcohol with its relaxing effect causes impairment in cognition and ability to make effective decisions. Another effect caused by the intake of alcohol are increased sex drive prior to the frontal lobe of the brain being under the influence of chemicals and damage to the major brain neurotransmitters, which can lead to impairment of new memories. The effects that alcohol are accountable for on the body are on the cardiovascular system and massive amounts of alcohol use leading to intoxication can cause severe damage to the liver including the nervous system resulting in death (Stevens, P., Smith, R. L., 2013). Nicotine can be found in tobacco products an example is in cigarettes. It serves as a minor stimulant as well as a sedative to the central nervous system. The effect nicotine gives off is known as a kick which is caused by a discharge of epinephrine from the adrenal cortex, that stimulates the central nervous system and endocrine glands to establish an immediate release ... • 3. The Characters Of Aisha And Khadija The Prophet s pietistic norms are archetypes in which Muslims, as a piety of knowledge, are intrigued to comprehend more about the messenger s social gestures. There have been various inquiries concerning the prophet s marriage, the traits of Muhammad as a husband and the normative of his sexual life. Although the prophet had consummated his marriage with eleven of his thirteen wives, Khadija and Aisha were the Prophet s most preference and beloved ones. No doubts, both Aisha and Khadija manifested the entitlement The Mother of the Muslim Believers; though, they both embedded different characters and witnessed the Prophet sexually in varying views. Therefore, the community had portrait Aisha and Khadija s embodiments relatively to their suppositions of gender and sexuality, since that Muhammad married both of his wives during discrete periods. In this Essay, I intend to answer the exam s inquiry, thoroughly, through three factions: At first, providing both characters of Aisha and Khadija. Secondly, representing clear differences in the way, they were told and the views they described gender and sexuality. Finally, Juxtaposing the discrepancies between the two stories and what they present. Both Characters of Aisha and Khadija According to Ibn Ishaq chronicle of Khadija s social status prior to her marriage to Muhammad, she was a wealthy respected women merchant in which many tribal elites were burgeoned to propose marriage to her, though. • 5. The Importance Of Maternal And Child Health Progress On A... Importance of Maternal and Child Health Progress on a Global Scale As one of the most significant and pressing priorities of the Unites States government concerning global health, child and maternal health is crucial and must be improved on an international level. Of all the Millennium Development Goals, goals four and five have shown the least amount of progress. The goals which aim to reduce child mortality and improve maternal health, respectively, have shown an embarrisingly minimal amount of progress for the obstrusively simple solutions that accompany the situation. It is essential to strengthen maternal and child health programs as it is a human rights issue as well as a health concern. Women around the world deserve to have improved access to high quality services. (8) Policies regarding health as well as multisectoral policies are vital in this effort as they will help in establishing a healthy environment which will foster the proliferation and facilitation of interventions. Despite the clear issues that require urgent addressing such as the stagnant maternal death rate and high newborn mortality rates, other issues still require immediate attention as maternal and child health is an incredibly important topic among organizations that are focusing on global health. The reason this issue presents itself in urgency and is becoming a high priority does not solely rest in the severity of the case. The problems that surround maternal and child health are so easily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Sectionalism Versus Nationalism and the Era of Good Feelings After the war of 1812, there was a strong sense of nationalism since the young United States had won a war against the powerful British Army. However, the loss of thousands of southern slaves and the British embargo led both the north and the south to lament over the cost of the war. The time period from 1815 1825 that some historians call the era of good feelings was not as positive a time period as the title implies; factions ran rampant on the verge of causing an implosion for our country s political system. The United States began to dissatisfy some of its citizens and so the concerns of sectionalism, or the split of the country began to arise. There was a continuous riff between the south and the north over a few issues, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another display of this was when the southern states wanted to add Missouri as a slave state, according to document F, the north only would agree if the north was able to add Maine as a free state, continuing to imply that the north and south would always disagree and be on other sides of an issue. Unfortunately this came about since the fall of the Whig political party, the Democratic Republicans had all the power so the states decided on presidents based on state interests rather than party interests. According to document I, this worked in the beginning as Monroe was almost universally accepted, but the next election led to major division of desired presidents and so limited the appeal and power of such president. In conclusion, sectionalist ideas began to spread around the country and potentially could have run the country into the ground. The country did hold manage to hold together due to the nationalism that came about as a result of the war with Britain. According to document C, there was a feeling of immense patriotism and nationalism on the Independence Day celebration as it reminded people of the two wars they had won against Britain. In 1820, according to document I, the majority of the states (all except Arkansas) voted for James Monroe clearly putting him in a position of respect from a large portion of the country. The natives that were killed also may have led to some nationalism as the southerners were less afraid of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many people traditionally think there are three magi in the Bible, because in Matthew s account there are three gifts given which were gold, incense, and myrrh. However, the Bible does not say there were only three wise men. They could have been more. So we do not know who are the people exactly because the Bible never mentioned it. The magi is a counselor to a king. They consulted with King Herod in Jerusalem concerning the birth of Christ and were directed to Bethlehem (Matthew 2:4 8). They followed God s guidance joyfully (Matthew 2:10). Their gifts for Jesus were costly, and they worshiped him. God warned them in a dream against returning to Herod, so, in defiance of the king, they left Judea by another route. I have learned a lot from the magi. The magi were men who read and believe God s word, sought Jesus, recognized the worth of Christ, humbled themselves to worship Jesus, and obeyed God rather than man. They are the truly wise men ( What does the Bible say about the three wise men (Magi)? ). Matthew 2:2 impressed me the most. The wise men, who are the magi, used days, months, or possibly even years to follow the star of Jesus and come to him. I am going to apply this to my own life. I need to learn from the magi, I need to worship God joyfully, worship him from the bottom of my heart, not just because I am in a Christian school and live with a Christian family. According to the website premierbiosoft.com mass spectrometry is a capable scientific procedure used to evaluate known materials, to distinguish obscure mixes inside an example, and to illustrate the structure and substance properties of various molecules. The entire procedure includes the change of the example into vaporous particles, with or without fracture, which are then described by their mass to charge proportions (m/z) and relative abundances. This is basically a technique that study the effect of ionizing energy on molecules. Assume you had a cannonball going past you and you needed to redirect it as it passed by you. All you have is a fly of water from a hose pipe that you can squirt at it. To be perfectly honest, it won t have a considerable measure of effect! Since the cannonball is so overwhelming, it will scarcely be avoided at all from its unique course. Be that as it may, assume rather, you attempted to avoid a table tennis ball going at an indistinguishable speed from the cannonball utilizing similar fly of water. (228). In A Supposedly Fun Thing I ll Never Do Again by David Foster Wallace the audience is taken into the author s life, from childhood to adulthood. Wallace went on different journeys and he tells the reality of all of them, both what he expected and what truly happened. He is trying to assure the audience that even though expectations are meant to tell someone exactly what will happen, do not believe that and follow your own path in life. Wallace uses quotes from many different people throughout the novel, whether he has known them for a long time or had just met them. These quotes add to the theme of the story because it gives other characters input besides the authors alone. It proves that others think this way as well and expect something to be a certain way, when in reality it happens to be the complete opposite. Wallace expected a Midwesterner, who he was interviewing at a state fair, about what others thought of what she did, he asked, So this doesn t bother you? As a Midwesterner, you re unbothered? Or did you just not have an accurate sense of what was going on back there? The lady simply replied with, So if I noticed or I didn t, why does it have to be my deal? What, because there s assholes in the world I don t get to ride on The Zipper? I don t ever get to spin? Maybe I shouldn t ever go to the pool or get all girled up, just out of fear of assholes? (101). After Wallace asks how this woman feels and what others say she should feel after her embarrassment, and instead of being terrified she did not seem to care. The woman told Wallace that just because she should feel a certain way does not mean she will, insisting that she can do whatever she pleases, even after many people tell her she should not. Following talking to that woman, Wallace interviewed a gentleman during the same fair. He asked the man, But would they want to? Your kids I mean. Would they want to hit the Hollow, ride the rides, eat all butter fudge, test various skills, mingle a little? (110). Most people would expect this man to say yes because that is what a great deal of people go to the fair for. Instead the man replies, Hail no. We all come for the shows (110). • 10. The Columbine Shooting Essay The Columbine Shooting A little over two years ago, one of the worst tragedies concerning our nation s children was playing out in a small rural town in Colorado. The date was April 20, 1999; the anniversary of Adolf Hitler s Birthday, for any history buffs. But for everyone else the day started out like any other. In Jefferson County (often mistakenly reported as being in Littleton), Colorado, children went to school and parents went off to work. Neither was overly concerned about the other, or about how the day would go, but in a few hours, that would all change. Kleboldharris also went off to school that fateful day in April. Even though there was a thorough investigation, there are many questions that still surround this tragedy. What caused these two teenagers to go to such drastic measures? Why was no one able to stop them? Were there any signs that this kind of destruction was in the making? But, more importantly, what has been the aftermath of this horrible massacre? These questions don t have any definite answers, but speculations are more than abundant. In what was to become known as the basement tapes , kleboldharris gave the most revealing insight into their psyche. In these tapes kleboldharris say that they were natural born killers. If we are to be held to this kind of thinking then we are to believe that some people are just plain evil, and there is nothing that can be done to stop them. But there were warning signs. And with warning signs, there is an opportunity for intervention. The most easily identifiable accomplice in hardening the hearts of kleboldharris lies in the media. From video games to movies, violence and callousness towards violence is everywhere. The shock jock , Howard Stern, was the most distasteful of the crowd. Immediately after the shootings he made comments about the girls running out of Columbine, screaming and waving their arms in the air, as being sexy. • 13. The Similarities Between The Ancient And Modern Olympic Games While there are clear contrasts between the ancient and the modern Olympics there is still the respect for the athlete striving to perform at the highest level. Today, the Olympic Games are the world s largest carnival of athletic skill and competitive spirit. They are displays of nationalism, commerce, and politics. These important elements of the Olympics are not a modern invention, as the first Olympics was in 776 BC in Ancient Greece. After 1503 years, in 1896 the Olympic Games were recreated as what we know today. The Ancient Games were once dedicated to the Olympian God, Zeus Olympios and were staged on the ancient plains of Olympia, which is also how the word Olympics originated from. The modern Olympics is the largest international sporting event, which feature both summer and winter sports competitions in which thousands of respectable athletes from over 200 different nations compete against one another. There are clear contrast between the modern and ancient forms of the Olympic Games regarding uniforms, participants, religion, events, politics and the concept of amateurism. He does express reasons why Elizabeth would want to marry him, but Austen shows them as being false, which makes him seem selfish. His first reason is to set an example for his parish, which makes him appear pompous. It is ironic because marriage is meant to prove your love for each other, but he wants to set an example to his parish without doing loving the person he intends to marry. Austen uses this to emphasize his unintelligence, and lack of perception. He then tells her that it will add very greatly to his happiness. These are the first of many very illogical arguments to support his philosophy. As the novel progresses this philosophy goes under brutal attacks by the misfortunes the characters come across again and again throughout their lives. It also sets up the never ending debate between those characters with the optimistic view and those with the pessimistic view. Voltaire uses Pangloss philosophy to demonstrate a point. Because he so strongly opposes this philosophy it s a recurring theme in the novel. The Theory Of Decision Making In our everyday life we are in front of multiple decisions to take, from the easy ones as what coffee to get to the more complicated ones, as what jobs to apply for. The word Decision originated from Latin word de ciso which indicates cutting off . This implicates that the act of deciding is to come to a conclusion among different options. How many options are available though? Throughout the years, many behavioural scientists proposed different theories in order to explain how we face decisions and act before them. Do we calculate them all accurately before cutting off ? One of the most recognized theories for decision making is the von Neumann Morgenstern utility theorem (1944), which states that the decision maker in front of all the different choices will behave as if he is maximizing the expected value of some function defined over the potential outcomes. Based on the expected utility, the von Neumann Morgenstern model is constructed upon the fundamental assumption that humans behave in a perfect rational way being able to calculate all the options and choosing among them the one that allows to maximize the expected utility. However, as the major critics to this model sustain, individuals are not fully rational when taking decisions. Their cognitive process is limited to the complexity of the environment in which they are taking decisions. • 37. A Brief Note On Sectionalism And The American Civil War Sectionalism, in it s earliest American state was found in the early 1800 s. Tensions were high during this time, with Slavery becoming a much more Sectional issue. The South claimed Slavery a Necessary Evil, and that without it, the South s economy would collapse. Many in the South believed it was a positive thing, providing slaves with shelter, food, and many cases, religion. On the opposite side, many northerners called for Abolition, or, the end of slavery ( Course Notes, Sectionalism and Slavery ). This ongoing conflict caused further splitting of the Union, with each side s ideals being complete 180° of each others . This political split lay almost exactly on the nation s regional line splitting the north and south, beginning to cut the once united nation into said sections. This small crack would be a tiny spark that light the tinder of one of the bloodiest wars the United States had ever participated in, the American Civil War. Where brother killed brother, and children as young as middle schoolers would be admitted into the army to fight in some of the bloodiest, brutal battles in american history ( Course Notes, Sectionalism and Slavery ). .Obviously, sectioning and splitting a once strongly united country will have a huge impact upon said country. Richard III and the Stability of England Essay Richard III and the Stability of England Richard became King of England on July the sixth 1483 after the heir to the throne was proclaimed illegitimate. Whether this claim was true or not is questionable. During Richards reign, the stability of England has been debated. Was he the ruler England needed to end the Wars of the Roses and bring stability back to the English people? Or did he cause England to be restless and unsettled? Is it a good thing that Henry Tudor defeated him in the Battle of Bosworth? This essay will look at the different points, which, under the reign of Richard III made the country stable or unstable. He made good alliances with France by building on previous victories and signing a three year truce. This made England stable because there was less worry of having to watch the Scots and make sure they do not start a fight. This made the people of England feel safer because they did not agree with fighting because of all the people who died. Another factor making England stable and strong under Richards reign was his support. Although it has been said that he was only popular in the North and that the South disliked him this can be proved somewhat untrue because it was the people of London who voted for him to be king. This proved that he had won the support of most of Britain, this was probably because people knew that he had been a loyal supporter of his brother during his reign and most people had liked Edward IV. Buckingham s rebellion was dealt with effectively and discreetly to prevent publicity. If the rebellion had been made a bid deal of people might have started to doubt the capability of their ruler. Another reason why England was seen as stable during Richards s reign was that he managed to refrain from having any civil war during his time on throne. This was helpful because civil war caused death and if there had been the country would have been seen as unstable. England ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cultural awareness can help employees face the challenge of responding to individuals with different religions in the workplace, expose religious practices, and eliminate stereotyping in the workplace. Awareness of religions, and the beliefs associated with different religions, can be accomplished in many ways, such as training courses, workshops or company handouts (Thomas Kochan, 2003, p. 4). Companies must embrace multiculturalism and diversity. The impact of diversity is a successful learning experience for companies, and is equally as important to a company as its mission statement because of the educational and work ethics of its employees. • 43. Similarities Between Redon And David Hockney Artists often use their personal perceptions as a stimulus for their artwork. They are able to use their work to express a certain viewpoint they may have on a subject. Well renowned artists, Odilon Redon and David Hockney have both manipulated their artistic abilities to express their perceptions through their work with their art movements. Redon is a renowned 18th 19th century French symbolist artist whose works revolve around his dreams, fantasy and imagination, The Cyclops (1914), being one of his most recognised paintings. David Hockney is a painter and photographer and is considered one of the most influential British artists of the 20th century, a prime example of his work being, A Bigger Splash (1966.) Both artworks reflect the artist s personal perceptions and contain similarities and differences with their movements, intentions and use of stylistic features. At the beginning of his career, Redon s works were exclusively in black and white in lithographic prints and charcoal. His works consisted of a monochromatic colour scheme representing symbolism in his unusual dreamlike creations, called noirs. In an interview, Redon stated that his noirs are his most personal expressions. These works were a product of his creative imagination of depictions of his knowledge and perception on evolution theories, presented by Charles Darwin at the time. The noirs were also a reflection on his pessimism and melancholy, particularly as a child, and a representation of how he views the world. Contradictory to his early works, Redon transfigured into non naturalistic colour themed pastels and oil paintings. Many of these oeuvres were abstract, generally constructed of an ethereal chromatic background with a focal subject and an overall hazy appeal. The Cyclops is a versatile example of Redon s work as it is an oil painting with noir themes. The artwork illustrates a mountain and rocky landscape, with a Cyclops creature emerging from behind the tall mountain in the background of the scenario. Slightly off centre to the right there is a naked woman who appears to be sleeping peacefully amongst the abstract plantation on the hill. DNA synthesis, in the case, the two strands are disconnected and then turned into single stranded DNA. This is called replication fork. The replication fork acts as a model for DNA synthesis. However, the site of impaired or mutated DNA can cause a lower rate pf success for DNA synthesis. Impaired DNA can also lead to unprocessed and unligated okazaki fragments. Okazaki frgaments are small DNA fragments that are linked to the lagging strand of DNA. The research article suggest that okazaki fragemts should be tracked for the benefit of cancer patients. An ubiquitin can change the way a cell functions or even where the call is located. The researchers then use a cdc9 with a wild type of DNA ligase 1 to determine whether PCNA ubiquitination happens because of the nicked DNA or because of the lack of PCNA DNA ligase interaction. While reviewing this, they noticed that the cdc9 mutants come to a halt during the later phases of the cell cycle and they collect unligated okazaki fragments. THis proves that PCNA ubiquitination occurs because of the nicked DNA. The nicks are left behind for repairin the last phase of the cell cycle, G2. Although they discovered this, they alos discovered that breaks in the DNA were present in the cdc9 mutants. They caused the replication forks to be held up. These breaks need to be repair via HR. To repair the breaks they suggest RAD52 to be used. Unfortunately, RAD52 was unsuccessful and did not interact with the mutant. They then test if RAD59 can be used to repair the breaks. • 48. Disney Negative Image Some Disney Films Portray a Negative Image on Kids Lives in Today s World I. Introduction a. The image that Disney s films portray their stories is a very powerful product that can influence our kids in a negative way. b. One example of this is the film The Princess and the Frog. In this movie, we can see that an African American girl named Tiana lived poor in the 1920 s. The plot of this story is that this poor girl wanted to finish the dream of her father, which is to create a restaurant. c. Like most of Disney s movies, the damsel in distress ends up marrying the prince charming, resolving all her social and economic problems. This kind of message to a little girl can create a wrong image of what her life should be like. Therefore, it portrays a negative influence in a young girl life. d. THESIS STATEMENT: Disney films create a fantasy world that young audience capture as an example of how life should be. This creates an issue, because it teaches kids that money is the solution for all problems by selling your dignity, they also teach that hard work is not enough in order to accomplish your dreams, and they also label the difference in social status. II. BODY ONE a. Disney films create a fantasy world, which misleads kids imagination of how the real world should be lived. b. In most of the Disney films, money is a factor to save the lives of the main characters. This was not the exception in the film The Princess and the Frog. 1. As part of her solution, Tiana has to kiss the frog, which is a prince and in return he would give her money to by the old mill. She ends up giving him the kiss for the money he promised. 2. Even though this scene seems harmless, this is an example of how Disney films are portraying a negative influence on how a girl sells herself to get the money she needs. 3. The message here is that it is acceptable to sell your dignity for money in return for what you need. 4. For younger kids this can be an example of how to acquire things in life. III. BODY TWO a.
