These chemicals include sulfuric acid, water, zinc, and polysiloxane. The chemicals break down he
scrap copper into a liquid mixture known as copper sulfate (CuSO4). The copper sulfate is then
poured over a drum, and electrified, this adheres the foil to the drum, which is then peeled off as foil.
Because of the chemical intense process, entry is very hard. The process requires very precise and
technical equipment that is very costly. Oak Mitsui, the leading company in the market, has a $200
million production plant to produce the foil in a 20 million pounds or about $105 million market size.
Another barrier to entry is the transportation cost, which tends to be a major cost for the companies.
Owning or outsourcing transportation is an expensive cost that most companies across all markets
face, and copper foil is certainly a market where transportation is a factor. Because there are few sites
of production or importation, the foil needs to be shipped to the consumers, which are located across
all of North America. This leads to transportation being a costly factor in the production of copper foil.
Copper foil has constant returns to scale. When all of the inputs are increased, the output is increased
proportionally. This is due to the fact that there is no loss or setbacks on the inputs during production.
This also means that the production function is linear, like Q= 2K+5L (however with many more
variables).

Mary Of Oignies Role Model
Mary of Oignies undoubtedly became a role model to the women of the Beguines. Throughout her
life, she personified the ideal practices of penance and devotion to God. An example of her
tremendous devotion to God can be found in the bodily chastisement she performed following her
illness. Upon falling severely ill, Mary of Oignies ate a small ration of meat and drank a meager
amount of wine. The drinking of wine can be seen as religiously unjustifiable in Galatians 5:21 which
states, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those
who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. While the need for exclusion of meat from
one s diet is stated in Leviticus 11 which states the types of meat

Barbara Fietchie Quotes
Barbara Frietchie was a very important person in our history because she showed people that they
should stand up for what they believe in. Barbara Frietchie showed many people that you should stand
up for your beliefs no matter how hard you have to work for it. Barbara Frietchie showed us through
her acts of bravery, loyalty, and dedication to her country.
To begin with, Barbara Frietchie showed many acts of bravery to her country by saying that she would
rather die than have her flag disrespected. Bravery is an important part of this story because it can
show many people that they can stand up for anything that they believe in. This shows people that you
can accomplish anything as long as you stand up for what you believe in. Barbara Frietchie ... Show

military that she was not afraid to die for her country, she said that she would rather die than have her
country s flag disrespected. Barbara Frietchie showed dedication to her country because even though
her window was shot out, she still did not let her flag hit the ground because she did not want her
country s flag to be disrespected. Dedication is very important because it could show other people to
be more dedicated to their country, and to stand up for what they believe in. To conclude with, Barbara

The Patient Safety Concern And Quality Improvement Issue (...
Falls in a health care setting are costly to the patient, the health care facility and may affect the
reimbursement that insurance gives to hospitals, yet they are preventable. Falls can be minor with just
a few bumps and bruises or they can be major which can result in death. Not only are falls harmful to
the patient but there is a lot of money and time that gets added up after a fall occurs *** There are
many factors as to why a fall could take place, but being aware of the risk that a patient is a fall risk
from the beginning can help avoid a fall from ever occurring. Accurately identifying a patient as a fall
risk and communicating to other staff within 24 hours of admission is key to help in the prevention of
falls.
Current Knowledge of the Patient Safety Concern/Quality Improvement Issue (State and National
Context)
Falls are one of the most common inpatient adverse events. According to the World Health
Organization, a fall is defined as an event that results in a person coming to rest inadvertently on the
ground or floor or other lower level (WHO 2016). In 2012, the cost of fall injuries totaled more than
$36 billion. As the population ages, the financial toll for older adult falls is projected to reach $59.6
billion by 2020. (NCQA 2015). Fall related injuries account for up to 15 percent of rehospitalizations
in the first month after discharge from hospital (Currie). Based on data from 2000, total annual
estimated costs were between $16 billion and $19

This had to be done because the town was being destroyed! The hospital went bankrupt because of all
the immigrants who had no money because they had to provide them with free care. Also, Immigrants
always come first now, even before paying citizens. If there were two people in an emergency room, a
Mexican and an American, the Mexican would be cared for first even if the American had been there
first or was in greater need of care. It s hard to believe what things have come to. Americans are
beginning to take action and speak up. The majority of people say that they would not mind
immigrants if they were treated like us and had to abide by our rules. It s not a good feeling to put
your kids in the car and go out knowing that there are millions of immigrants who have no idea how to
drive out there on the road with you. Think of the danger we are being subjected to and what makes it
worse is that it s unnecessary. What would it hurt to take a drivers test before getting out on the road?
When you enter America you should be willing to do this, after all, it is no crime to want to chase after
the American dream. When they can come over here and accept our culture and heritage and stop
trying to change us, then they will be welcome. When they have to take a drivers test before getting a
license, pay taxes, and pay for their own food and health care, then and only then, will they be truly

Bones are also made up of connective tissue. These tissues are made up of cells called osteoblasts
osteoclasts , they help the bone to heal and break down the old bone to help new bone develop/grow.
Collagens fibers also is what makes boes flexible.
Structure of long bone:
The long bone is composed of cartilage which covers both ends of the the bone(the epiphysis) and it
helps prevents bones rubbing off each other (friction) and also is a shock absorber. The outer layer of
the long bone is the hard compact bone, this allows the hollow part of the log bone some strength. The
spongy part in the long bone ( in the epiphysis where the red bone marrow is stored , this allows for
red blood cells to be produced. There s also a yellow bone marrow in the centre of the bone(marrow
cavity) this allows for white blood cells to be produced. The shaft of the bone is also called the
diaphysis. The periosteum of the long bone has no cartilage but also is a protective layer of the long
bone , this is also where tendons and ligaments connects.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address
Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address
Could the North and South ever come together again and unite as one nation after the Civil War? The
purpose of Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address was to offer his promising predictions for
reconciliation with the South and his vision of the future. Lincoln utilizes strong and elevated diction
to clearly articulate his vision for the future, with choices like dreaded and sought . Furthermore,
Lincoln s optimistic tone offers a beacon of hope, with examples like, achieve and cherish a just and
lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations, and to bind up the nation s wounds . The purpose
of the address is achieved through parallelism and appeal to religion, too. Lincoln s diction, one of his
most powerful literary devices, is employed prominently throughout the entire passage.
Lincoln s elevated diction is used so he can communicate his thoughts openly and plainly. For
instance, he says all dreaded and sought to avoid the Civil War. This establishes the war as a terrible
evil but not the Confederacy. His word choice helps humanize the Confederacy, the Union s enemy.
The black population is addressed as colored slaves in order to appeal to the South and their deep
pride in slavery. Simultaneously, to appeal to the North who despised slavery, he says the black
population was part of the whole population . The purpose of Lincoln s diction here is to attempt to
bring the Union and the Confederacy together as it appeases to both side s beliefs. Also, Lincoln
chooses to say insurgents , which has a more neutral connotation behind it, instead of calling the
Confederacy the enemy or another derogatory term in order not to alienate the South. When the Civil
War ends, the two sides would have to reconcile, and they can t do that if Lincoln depicts the South as
the enemy.
Lincoln s optimistic tone attempts to persuade the audience into forgiving the South and making
peace. For instance, Lincoln says, to bind up the nation s wounds, , a bright and encouraging quote for
the country s future. By referring to the Union and Confederacy as a one entity, it depicts them as a
single united country. What Lincoln also suggests is that the Civil War is not fatal and that the

The Pros And Cons Of Racial Discrimination
As an international student, I was given a great opportunity to pursue a wide range of academic
studies and to experience the world diversity that enriches the promotion of a cultural exchange
amongst students from many different parts of the world. Interactions with different races on a
personal level has allowed me to gain a better understanding about them in person, their values, and
the world; however, until I left home and went abroad as an international student, I, too, was one of
few people who had only seen them in person from a long distance or through social media. As much
as the issue of racial discrimination has been extreme and people s ignorance of this issue has grown
in many countries, I had once denied to accept the difference and created bias in my personal view and
the way I perceived different races. People tend to acquire various knowledge through individual
perception formed simply by seeing what is currently lain in front of us, as I did. Barack Obama,
while campaigning for the presidential nomination at the National Constitution Center Union in
Philadelphia in 2008, delivered his speech about controversial issues of race that still exist in the
history of America (Rai, 646).
The speech titled A More Perfect Union conveys numerous messages regarding Obama s concerning
beliefs of racism. Barack Obama, himself, despite serving as the 44th President of the United States,
had gone through the long and hurtful journey of difficulties in the presence of racial discrimination
having to face the prejudice against the colored skin and a different social and cultural background.
Being colored, preconceptions about him was inevitable even during his campaign, but his oratory that
openly addressed the race which is the sensitive topic that is rarely discussed or spoken in public,
captured great attention allowing him to successfully build his image as an intelligent and patriotic
candidate. Through the speech, Obama not only responds to the criticisms of his affiliation with his
former pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, who spoke of controversial and incendiary statements about
the divisive racial challenges in America and the injustice of the country as a nation by questioning the
U.S. government,

Sight And Blindness In Oedipus
When most people think of blindness they think of someone who cannot see out of their eyes.
However, someone can have their eyesight but be unable to see what is going on around them and the
impact they are making in everyday life. In Oedipus Rex, Oedipus was blind both metaphorically and
eventually physically. Sophocles recurring motif of sight and blindness serves to illustrate Oedipus s
own blindness and understanding. Tiresias is physically blind, but sees more into Oedipus than
Oedipus can see in himself. Oedipus s lack of self knowledge makes him metaphorically blind. Once
he gains knowledge and insight, Oedipus no longer wants his physical sight.
Tiresias is a blind prophet who Oedipus calls upon to clarify information from Apollo s oracle.
Tiresias is physically blind but has the ability to see metaphorically and make predictions. He is
hesitant to reveal to all of his knowledge of Oedipus identity. You, even though you see clearly, do not
see the scope of evil, nor where you live, nor with whom you dwell. Do you know your true descent?
And secretly you are an enemy to your own kin, both under the earth and on it (433 438). Tiresias
knows Oedipus descent and Oedipus needs some self insight to understand the deeds he has
committed and the truth of his birth. Oedipus ignorance causes him to be angry and poke fun at
Tiresias s blindness. Tiresias s blindness allows him to ponder and self reflect, which Oedipus fails to
do which causes his downfall. Tiresias

Main Characters In The Land Of Stories A Grimm Warning
In the book, The Land of Stories A Grimm Warning by Chris Colfer, the main character, Rook,
changes throughout the book due to the conflicts he faces.
To show this, in the beginning of the book Rook was helping out the fairies, or more importantly Alex;
the Fairy Godmother in training. He would go on walks with her and he later helped her figure out
why Little Bo Peep wanted to become the next queen on Red Riding Hood Kingdom. I was going to
suggest that if you re curious about Little Bo Peep s intentions, we could sneak onto her farmand have
a look around. (Colfer 135). In this piece of evidence Rook is helping Alex go see what Little Bo Peep
could be upto. He and Alex then go to her farm and look around. He helped her discover something
she otherwise might not have been able to without the help of his idea. Rook and Alex did have a
crush on each other and that could have been why he wanted to do this as something to impress her,
but he helped her nonetheless. Without the help of Rook Alex could have never found this out. She
pulled him behind a giant patch of tulips and threw her arms around his neck. She had held it together
very well, but Rook was the only person she didn t feel like she had to be brave in front of. (Colfer
311). In this piece of evidence Alex had just had one of the hardest days of her life. When she saw
Rook she immediately felt joy for one of the first times that day. Rook helped her relax and he also
made her feel happy in the midst of all

Lab Report on Paper Towels
Which Paper Towel is Stronger and
Has More Absorbency?
Decorator or Sparkle?
Introduction
Paper towels are made from softwood trees which contain long fibers. The tree goes thru several
processes before it is actually turned into a paper towel. The paper towel is made from pulp in which
the water is removed and the fibers then bond into sheets. Also, resin is added to the process to give
the paper towel strength (Union). Several layers are then put together with adhesive and then formed
into a paper towel (Choudhury). Some paper towels are embossed to form air pockets which help to
absorb more liquid and help to add more strength (Union).
The purpose of this experiment is to find out which brand of paper towel, Decorator or ... Show more

The process was then repeated for the second brand of paper towel.
The independent variable for the experiment was the paper towels. The dependent variable was the
absorbency and strength. The constants for the experiment were the size of the paper towels that were
used, the amount of water, the size of the beaker, the size of the cylinder and the amount of the weight.
Results
The results of the experiment for the test of strength were that the Sparkle brand proved to be the
strongest. The average amount that the paper towel would hold before ripping was 583.6 g, which was
159.2 g more than the Decorator brand held. The Decorator brand only held 424.4 g before it ripped.
The results of the experiment for the test of absorbency were that the Sparkle brand proved to be the
most absorbent. The average amount of liquid that the Sparkle brand paper towel held was 17.4 mL,
which was 4.6 mL more than the Decorator brand held. The Decorator brand only held 12.8 of liquid.

Female Circumcision Essay
Female Genital Circumcision Female genital circumcision (FGC) is a cultural ritual that is performed
to the vast majority of women within the countries of Sudan, Kenya, Mali, Benin, Togo, and parts of
the Middle East. Female genital circumcision also termed as female genital mutilation is used based
upon a person s beliefs. This ritual has been highly controversial for many years especially in the
western society, due to the health risks that women may have to go through. Doctor Gruenbaum, and
anthropologist who studied FGC in Sudan, has researched this topic and believes that outsiders need
to have an open mind about diverse cultures. I believe that this procedure should not be illegal;
however, education about the risks of the procedure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The practice of female genital circumcision is also shown in other cultures in different parts of the
world. It is highly concentrated in North of Africa; however, it has existed also in Middle Eastern
countries and some parts of Asia. Some of the Middle Eastern countries that practice FGC are Yemen,
Oman, Iraqi Kurdistan, amongst some Bedouin women in Israel, and was also practiced by the
Ethiopian Jews. It is unclear whether they continue with the practice now that they are settled in Israel.
FGC is also practiced among Bohra Muslim populations in parts of India and Pakistan, and amongst
Muslim populations in Malaysia and Indonesia (FORWARD). There are different types are Female
Genital Circumcision; mostly it is put in one category by an outsider. Dr. Greunbaum in her book, The
Female Circumcision Controversy: An Anthropological Perspective, states that FGC cannot be
generalized but it can be differentiated and grouped. Every cultural group performs this sacred ritual in
a different way. Historically, FGC is believed to have originated from Ethiopia or Egypt, FGC was
practiced by Ethiopians, Phoenicians, Hittites (Taba, 1979) and may have spread to other parts of
Africa. WHO has categorized FGC in four different categories: Type one is known as clitoridectomy,

each man s father affects their particular natures their particular sins. While Hamlet could be
considered a story in the vein of Cain and Abel; a jealous man who slays his brother, an allusion which
Claudius himself makes during his prayer at the climax of the play O! my offense is rank, it smells to

To those he loves his mother Gertrude and his lady Ophelia Hamlet adopts a different tact; his belief
that he must go alone and confide in no one, save his friend Horatio, results in his terrible
mistreatment of his mother and Ophelia. Between speaking daggers to Gertrude and imparting to
Ophelia that she should get to a nunnery, Hamlet makes miserable the lives of the women who love
him.
That need for detachment from love is grounded in Hamlet s self doubt, which manifests itself
throughout the play in Hamlet s various soliloquies. Even as he prepares to set a trap for Claudius by
use of the play within the play, Hamlet finds his thoughts florid and his doubts numerous, he admires
First Player s capacity to convincingly portray false emotions:
O, what a rogue and peasant slave am I!
Is it not monstrous that this player here,
But in a fiction, in a dream of passion,
Could force his soul so to his own conceit (II, ii, 503 507)

cannot bring himself to kill the King, lest Claudius meet with a better end than his own father:
. . . And so a goes to heaven,
And so

Canada s previous conservative government signed a lucrative deal that would see the country export
$15 billion worth of light armored vehicles (LAVs) to Saudi Arabia. It is pertinent to note that Saudi
Arabia performs exemplarily poorly when it comes to observing human rights. The deal was struck
between the conservative government and Saudi Arabian National Guard, which mainly protects the
royal family. With a past record of consistently mistreating citizens with unpopular views, there is
little guarantee that the arms sale will not be used to violate innocent civilians human rights in the

However, the government has consistently failed to associate the sale of light armored vehicles with
possible escalation of human rights violation in the future. Instead, the government has chosen to
emphasize the significant economic gains that come with the huge deal. Canada gains enormously
from its relationship with Saudi Arabia. Firstly, Saudi Arabia is one of the key economies in the
Middle East. In addition to that, Saudi Arabia is a key trade partner considering the fact that it is
Canada s second largest export market in the Middle East (Gauthier, 2011). As a result of this there is
a definite commercial interest since it is a possible market for International Trade Canada (ITC). It is
worth appreciating the fact that the Canada and its allies perceive the Middle East nation as a
gradually stabilizing force. The fact that the light armored vehicles are made in Canada means that
they are a key source employment (Chase, 2015). This partly explains why the conservative
government is reluctant to halt the transfer of the arms for fear of contributing to

Rio Sonora Valley Incident Analysis
In August 2014, while I was on holidays in a remote region of Mexico called The Rio Sonora Valley, I
witnessed the most outrageous natural disaster I have ever seen. It was caused by the spilling of more
than 40,000m3 of copper sulphate in the river, which savagely polluted it and affected thousands of
people, cattle and fish among others. This particular incident triggered my research about water

Database Paper
Whatis.com (2004) defines a database as a collection of information that is organized so that it can
easily be accessed, managed, and updated. In my current job at Wellco Tank Trucks, Inc., we do not
use any type of databases in the daily operations of our business. My only job that involved regular
use of a database was at Chilcutt Direct Marketing (CDM) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. From
February 2003 to June 2004, I was an Account Executive of Brokerage at CDM. CDM is a direct
marketing company that manages and brokers customer mailing lists for companies across the United
States. The company uses an operating system called AS/400. AS/400 is setup with a database
included. The database is customizable to fit the specific needs ... Show more content on

By searching through the database using the target customer information, I could narrow the field of
possible lists from 40,000 to less than fifty. From there, I would research each of the lists further to
find the best possible customer lists for Bass Pro Shops to send Christmas catalogs to. Each employee
at Chilcutt Direct Marketing spends an average of five hours per day actively using the Marketing
Information Network database. MIN definitely made our jobs at CDM easier but the database would
be much more beneficial to the company if a few changes were made. First, there have been several
updates released for the AS/400 operating system that CDM uses but they are still using the original
version. If they would update their operating system, they would find that the program would be more
user friendly and would be much more dependable. The other improvement that needs I suggest is in
the consistency of functions within the database. For example, if you are in the order entry screen, the
F1 function key is the command for field exit, the F4 key is for deleting and F5 updates the screen. In
the order shipment screen, F1 is the command for delete, F4 is update, and F5 is field exit. This makes
it very difficult to use and very easy to make mistakes. Over the years, other mailing list databases
have come on the market to compete with Marketing

The Beginning Of Red Badge Of Courage By Stephen Crane
In the beginning of Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane, Henry Fleming or the youthful private is
a farm boy who has left the farm against his mother s best wishes to enlist in the Union army. The
novella begins after Henry has enlisted and joined with the 304th New York regiment encamped
across a river in Virginia from the enemy. The date is May 1863, two years after the Civil War has
already begun, and the scene is set for the upcoming Battle of Chancellorsville. Through the course of
the weeks leading to Henry s first battle, Henry is brought to question his beliefs and learn his place
within his own regiment. Through the use of naturalism, irony, and the literary point of view, Crane
grants the reader a look into the harsh realism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Henry contemplates, the narrator illustrates Henry s struggle as Henry tries, to mathematically
prove to himself that he would not run from a battle [...] [, however,] [i]t had suddenly appeared to
him that perhaps in a battle he might run, (4) showcasing how when compared to his previously held
notions about war, the irony of Henry s newfound cowardice and lack of bravery is clear. Similarly,
Henry is naïve to his true part in the war and the uncontrollable forces controlling his life. Through the
use of naturalism, the pessimistic version of realism that asserts that most individuals are without
freedom that they are at the mercy of larger forces, like economics, war, the government, heredity,
environment, and nature, Crane shows the reader how small and insignificant Henry is in the grand
scheme of things. As Dr. Ball states, you join the military and lose your freedom, it seems,
exemplifying Henry s current predicament (Ball). Henry, although having hopes of becoming a hero,
is as his mother says, jest one little feller amongst a hull lot of others, (3) revealing the reality and
irony of his current situation, he is not a hero able to achieve glory in battle. As the narrator points out
Henry, had grown to regard himself merely as a part of a vast blue demonstration, (4) demonstrating
how his situation changes Henry s ability to gain glory and fame in battle. However, soon after the

Sophocles Euripides Bacchae
Commentary on Bacchae Paul Woodruff s translation of the Greek play Euripides Bacchae tells the
story of the primary character Dionysus, who is the son of the Greek God Zeus. Dionysus is out to
seek his revenge on his mother s sisters, his grandfather Cadmus, and also his cousin Pentheus
because they have denied that he, Dionysus was born a God. Also important in this play is Pentheus
who was made King of Thebes as a young teenage boy by his grandfather who is also Cadmus.
Pentheus learns of Dionysus trying to change order in Thebes and Pentheus is determined to stop this
form happening at all costs. While reading this play, one may think it is good versus evil , with

The play does not go into the depths of Pentheus background, childhood, or what his exact issue with
women is. His dislike, disgust, and annoyance with women leaves me as a reader to wonder if this is
just a phase of teenage puberty Pentheus does not know how to deal with, or is it a more deep seeded
issue such as, could he have been sexually abused by his mother or perhaps one of his aunts as a

The reason the upper class settled in the Southern colonies was because of the large and very valuable
tracts of land available for farming. It was advantageous to settle in the south because of the perfect
climate for farming and growing cash crops. In 1607, King James 1 split the Atlantic seaboard into
two distinct areas. He gave the southern half to the London Company and the northern half to the
Plymouth Company. A total of 144 ships were sent by the London Company to settle. They established
the settlement called Jamestown. It was at first not an easy adventure. The settlers primary focus was
on finding gold. While they were so consumed with finding gold, they were not producing any exports
to bring money to them and often times barely had enough food for survival. Virginia began growing
tobacco. This proved to be a very profitable crop for them, but it was also their main source of income
and they relied heavily on it. Virginia had a lot of slaves, at first mostly white indentured servants who
helped in the tobacco fields. However, later Virginia became a true slave society with slaves from
Africa. White male landowners held most of the power. These white men controlled the government
and belonged to the Church of England. In 1775, Virginia ended up becoming a royal government,
meaning the colonial government was appointed by the crown. Religious tolerance took a while to
prosper in Virginia. There was a high influx of Anglicans in this colony and they were legally required
to attend church services in the beginning. Taxes were collected to support the church. On Sundays,
both business affairs and church series were conducted (B. Wolfe). Virginia s climate consisted of hot
and humid summers and moderate winters. The hot, humid climate made conditions optimal

The Power Of The National Territory
Taking in account Max Weber definition of a successful state, a failed state can be defined as a state
fully incapable of exercising power within its boundaries, its failure to provide basic goods to its
citizens, such as political and social needs, and incapable of exercising the monopoly of the legitimate
use of physical force. Although in a weak states, like Colombia, Indonesia, Thailand, the state is still
able to provide some political goods to its citizens and exercise power in much of the national
territory, in a failed state this is not the case. The failed state is indeed unable to provide basic and
economic needs to its citizens. The nature of the failed state varies across geographical regions,
colonial history, and political circumstances. However, they share some economic and political
features. Human insecurity pervades in every aspects of a failed state, from social tensions to civil
wars, from geography to corruption and external actors, whose presence in many cases proceeds to
worsen situations. The vast majority of failed states lack in security and violate most of the human
rights of their citizens while at the same time fail to ensure basic social services. Moreover, failed
states are characterized by huge inequalities. The gap between the rich and the poor is extremely high,
where just a small percentage lives wealthy, while the vast majority of the population starves
everyday. Elite models deliver financial rewards only to favourite families, clans

Guests Of The Nation Duty
War requires a lot out of soldiers. They give themselves wholly to their country, including their mind,
body, and soul. However, one thing that seems to vary among these men is their sense of duty. In
Frank O Connor s Guests of the Nation, three Irish soldiers form an unlikely friendship with their
British prisoners of war. However, things take a turn when they are given orders to execute their new
found friends. When the order reaches the men, the three of them interpret their new duty in various
ways. Through the orders of execution, Guests of the Nation emphasizes how people react to a sense
of duty in varied ways from embracing it with pride, carrying out their duty with confusion and regret,
and disobeying by limited participation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is really exemplified in one character, Bonaparte. Bonaparte is very young and very naive, not
even knowing why that the Englishmen were his prisoners until being told so. And when it comes to
the executions, he does not act the way Donovan does. For instance, when Donovan is about to shoot
Hawkin, Bonaparte begins to pray and closes his eyes so as not to see his friend die (1066). He doesn t
do this because the death disgusts him, he does it because he knows that it should not be happening.
Hawken is a good man in his eyes and does not deserve to be slaughtered like an animal. Not to
mention the shot did not fully kill Hawkin. He is seen twitching on the ground by Belcher, who would
not let the killing proceed until he was put out of his misery. Bonaparte was the one to do this, leaning
down and shooting him once more out of mercy. While doing this, he thinks, By this time I didn t
seem to know what I was doing (1067). This shows his vulnerability and questioning of whether or
not what he is doing is the right thing to do. His moral compass is telling him that taking these orders
blindly may not be what is right for him. After the executions, both Bonaparte and Noble have
immense trouble coping with what they have seen and done. The scene keeps playing in their minds,
leaving scars of what happened and

Peer tutoring is an instructional plan with a strategy that consists of student partnership, linking high

Cross age peer tutoring (CPT) is a peer tutoring approach with students of different ages tutoring with
older students assuming the role of tutor and younger students assuming the role of the person
receiving the tutoring. These student pairings may include a variety of combinations such as graduate

teamwork and effective interactive communication skills. This study shows support and giving
academic advice as an important part of tutoring; however, it is also important for tutors to understand
that they are not psychological counselors. These are fundamentals for using peer tutoring and peer

One of the successful ways were the several revolts that occurred because of the women, who rioted in
the grocery and bakeries shops. The sans culottes had not yet completely given up on the use of
violent tactics to achieve their ends because they needed goods, which the first estate had. They
revolted with the lower estates a few times and accomplished their aim. Because of these actions, they
have been known as the rebels of various counter revolutionary risings . Nearly everyone, especially
the first estate and the major figures, at a certain point had enough of them, since they were getting out
of hand and were succeeding, they were naming them certain terms and attempting to persuade them,
by writing, that they should end their actions and that everything is useless. In a way the great figures
had enough of the Sans Culottes. This, again, certain people would say, is typical behaviour of people
if something doesn t go their way. Yes, but the Sans Culottes knew that if they carry out brutal
behaviour, they will achieve a large quantity of their aim, thus gain power. Brutality for them was the
only method that worked. They are not showing their unhappiness because something didn t go their

Being A School Psychologist Means Interacting With Many...
Being a school psychologist means interacting with many types of people. These people may be of a

compassion and respect for everyone they meet. Anticipating becoming a psychologist I know that I
must become comfortable around people who are different from myself. So, in order to expand my
horizons, I decided to participate in something that I felt would make me a better listener and

(Kenneth Merrell, 2012) Because the population of transgender students is so small, many
professionals neglect to research and study the physical and emotional challenges of transgender
students (many of whom remain hidden out of fear of rejection). Transgender students live in a world
where they are made to feel isolated and rejected by their peers and society. Being African American, I
know that our culture doesn t readily accept transgender people and we frown upon and ridicule a
parent who allows their child to choose a different gender. When the situation arises where someone in
our culture chooses to openly change genders we believe that it is a condition that will either pass or
can be prayed away. This way of thinking forces our children s worldview to be rooted in shame and
embarrassment and they begin to feel trapped in the wrong body with no way out and no one to talk
to. Their individual identity is questioned because they do not feel a part of any specific culture.
Knowing that through the acknowledgement of a student s identity, a school psychologist can avoid
stereotyping them or approaching them in a stereotypical way, (Kenneth Merrell, 2012), it is important
for transgender students to form a solid personal identity. However, so many transgender students feel
like they don t belong to any group of people and this is part of the reason why

Persuasive Essay On Vegetarians
I ve been a carnivore my entire life, and I am here to say that I am appalled by you who think that it is
okay to contribute to the violent deaths of so many of God s peaceful, biotic organisms. I am ashamed
of the lack of compassion you exhibit towards your eating habits, you are systematically committing
mass murder and you do not feel a single sense of guilt. Every year, billions of the victims are put
through unbelievable amounts of pain and trauma to a degree that would shock even the worst
criminals. Who are these murderers, you ask? They are the vegetarians.
Vegetarians: You believe that all sentient beings are entitled to life and freedom. And yes, we would
much prefer to watch a video of someone cutting an apple than slitting the neck of a pig. This is
because you do not believe a vegetable is capable of emotions as they do not possess brains nor a
nervous system. Well, if that is the case; how did the scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz manage to stay
alive? He didn t have a brain, yet he could still feel enough sadness to cry about it. A Sea sponge is
considered an animal yet it also does not possess nerves or a brain. Plants can actually do a lot of
things that we would consider animalistic. For example, they do move, if only at a pace that can only
be viewed via time lapse. They also thrive, becoming more vibrant and growing at a hastened rate,
when in the presence of a close relative. This is a sophisticated level of behaviour that some animals

Summary Of Le Fresne And Bisclavret
As seen with the first two lais, Guigemar and Equitan , Marie uses the lais to express her opinions on
righteous and unrighteous love. However, unlike Guigemar and Equitan , the next two lais in her
collection, Le Fresne and Bisclavret , are not as straightforward in their approaches to righteous and
unrighteous love. Whereas in Equitan there was the warning that those who resemble the king should
take warning of his end, in Le Fresne and Bisclavret there is not such a didactic lesson on the morality
or immorality of love. Instead, Marie utilizes the slightly convoluted natures of the next two lais to
surprise the readers with the outcomes of the stories and to further emphasize the complicated nature
of love. In order to more easily draw on the comparisons between Le Fresne and Bisclavret , the lais
will be broken up into how the relationships begin, how the lovers face trials, and how the
relationships reach their final outcomes. Romantic relationships are not the only type of loving
relationships that Marie discusses in her lais. As is the case with the third lai, Le Fresne , the main
romantic relationship does not appear until a third of the way into Marie s telling of the lai. While the
romantic relationship is essential to the story and drives the plot onward for the final two thirds of the
telling, there are other relationships that are equally important to discuss in order to learn the full
scope of what Marie de France defines as love,

Essay On STEM Doesn T Stand For Men
The M in STEM Doesn t Stand for Men
Whether it peaks your interest or not there is no doubt that the STEM field plays a major role in your
society and is very important. Those four letters stand for science, technology, engineering, and math,
and they are the driving force of new discoveries and innovations that lead to new products and
processes that sustain our economy. STEM education creates critical thinkers, increases science
literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators. However, despite the interest I have always
had for science and math, I was never introduced to the field of engineering or even knew that I could
consider a career in anything other than health services until near the end of my senior year of high
school. Growing up, I was always told to be either a doctor or lawyer. Since I knew being a lawyer
was not going to happen, I chose the health field. My mom and relatives would tell me that if I
thought becoming a doctor was too much work, I could always go into nursing or pharmacy, or do
something lighter, like accounting. My mom, like most of my aunts, does not have a college degree

Social conformity can be toxic, it often leads to the epidemic that is prejudice. To give a better idea of
what prejudice means, Judice translates to judge in Latin, therefore the term prejudice literally
translates into pre judgment . There are innumerable forms of negative preconceived notions that exist
in our world today, the biggest one being racism, which often is a stem of having anti immigration
views. Immigration prejudice is not unknown to any person who lives in America and has eyes and

Prejudice doesn t discriminate, it lives in all runs of people: Whites, African Americans, Asians,
Hispanics, Republicans, Democrats, men, women, young, old you name it. In a perfect world this
level of hatred wouldn t be the norm, but it is. It is so widespread that there s tangible evidence that
shows even Hispanics (immigrant or not) have negative affiliations with immigrants. How can this be
when Hispanics take the cake for making up the largest portion of new comers. Interestingly enough,
research done by the Pew Research Center concludes that the more Hispanics have become
accustomed to nativism in American culture, the more likely they are to feel negatively toward the
matter. This sense of superiority is quite frankly sickening, to know that even counterparts of
immigrants could fall suspect of discrimination goes to show its daunting power. What s more, the
false notion that immigrants are purely responsible for the uprooting of crime, scarce resources, drugs,
disease, and more have been fed to natives by the media and those in powerful positions to continue

Essay on The Founders and Religious Freedom
James Madison and Thomas Jefferson are two of the seven key founding fathers of the United States.
The motive of the founders of the U.S. was to establish religious freedom in the colonies; therefore,
religion was of importance to them. When the policy of the separation of church and state was enacted
by the founding fathers through the Constitution, it meant that under a secular government, religious
freedom would always be protected. Issues such as the freedom to practice one s religion arose in the
earlier colonies and the separation of church and states prevents these issues from occurring again.
The separation of church and state protects the rights of all and ensures religious freedom. This policy
has proven to be nothing but a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only did James Madison have views on the importance of religion but he was an adamant believer
of the separation of church and state. Madison stated that breaking the ties between church and state
would cause a growth in religious interest. He wrote about this in 1819 stating that the number, the
industry, and the morality of the priesthood and the devotion of the people have been manifestly
increased by the total separation of the church from the state. Thomas Jefferson shared this belief with
Madison in his wall of separation between religion and government which is a fortification of liberty.
He strongly supported the freedom of religion in America through the separation of church and state.
The phrase wall of separation between the church and the state was originally coined by Thomas
Jefferson in a letter to the Danbury Baptists in 1802. The purpose of the letter was to ease fears of the
wall that the Danbury, Connecticut Baptists had. Jefferson said in his letter that the wall had been built
to protect them. This was used to keep the state out of the church s business. During pre Revolutionary
America there were efforts made to attain not only political liberty but also religious freedom. The
booming dissenting churches in Virginia had presented several pleas against religious discrimination
to the Virginia House of Burgesses in the 1750s and 1706s. Some of Virginia s statesmen and
politicians included James Madison and Thomas

Comparison Between R And Python
Chapter 3
Today, R and Python are the most popular open tools for Machine Learning. This Chapter presents a
general overview of R and Python, their characteristics and usage for machine learning. Lastly, a
comparison matrix of R and Python for ML is provided at the end of this chapter.
About R
R stands for both the statistical programming language and the software environment. It is one of the
most popular statistical environment for machine learning and general data analysis. R is licensed
under the GNU General Public License, with copyright held by The R Foundation for Statistical
Computing.
The source code of R is written in R, C and Fortran. R is free, open source and cross platform with a
large community of users. Even though R programming is challenging, the CRAN packages reduce
the number of lines coding, with a help command giving explanation and examples of use. R also
gained popularity for its fancy visualizations.
R is today one of the most if not the most powerful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are both open source, free and easy to install. The choice of a tool over the other is subjective
and depends on the user s preference and personal experience. Python is a great solution if the user
wants to learn a powerful programming language for not only machine learning and statistics. Besides,
if the user is already familiar with python or with a similar programming language, Python seems a
natural choice. Python is more flexible and gives the freedom of development. R on the other hand, is
more suitable if the user is specifically interested in statistical computations and visualizations. For
non programmers, R can be very exciting; the user can easily do data explorations and create some
amazing plots with little effort. Many tutorials and books are available for beginners, and the
community is always welcoming new R users. Still, mastering R programming language demands a
lot of time, patience and

The Validity of Plutarch Essay
The first century AD gave birth to Plutarch of Chaeronea. He was born into the Greco Roman world
during the Pax Romana, a time of peace that which had not been seen in all of the country s history.
Plutarch, coming from an upper class family, was able to get a good education and find a purpose to
his life1. Philosophy was his calling and he was brilliant in his work. An aficionado of the works of
his forefathers in thought (from Zeno to Plato), Plutarch used their systems to take his knack for
observing the behavior of men and formulating the proper way to live. His essays, On Being Aware of
Moral Progress, On Listening, and How to Distinguish a Flatterer from a Friend, came at a time when
the city states of Greece were in moral as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Romans were complaining that Rome itself was becoming `a Greek city4. Greek became an
international language; cultured Romans would make a point to learn it and Greek slaves introduced it
to Roman families5.
Although it may have been an intellectual inspiration, much of Greece was still barren and the
economy was far from perfect. The country suffered from uniform poverty and the collapse of
autonomy6. From the decades of warring came a population on the downfall and a great decline in
merit. Whereas at its summit the Hellenic states could boast handsome temples, theatres, halls, and
palaces ... they found their monies being spent in maintaining wars and in offsetting a growing
unfavorable balance of trade7. The only cities with anything close to prosperous trade at this time
were Corinth and Patras. People were not concerned with anything but survival. Ancient beliefs of
morality and plain old goodness were lost. There was a need for someone, anyone, to turn this awful
trend around. Enter Plutarch.
The year AD 46 brought the new thinker into the world. Greece had experienced almost 250 years of
Roman rule by the time Plutarch was born and was in need of some serious ethical assistance. Plutarch
was born in Chaeronea, in the province of Boeotia which was approximately half the distance between
Athens and Delphi. He was born into an old family that was known to have been holding high public
positions for

Galapagos Islands Research Paper
Discovered in 1535, the Galapagos Islands have been a place of mystery and wonder for centuries.
The Galapagos Islands are a group of volcanic islands located approximately 1000 kilometers west of
the South American coast on the equator. Thirteen main islands make up the island chain, along with 6
smaller islands and numerous other islets, small rocks, and pinnacles, with a total land surface area of
approximately 8,000 square kilometers. The islands are known for their unique species of countless
different animals, found nowhere else in the world, and for the discoveries made by Darwin at this
island chain. The Galapagos Islands are unique in many aspects, including the hot spot underneath, the
plate tectonics, the two different volcano types ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These crater like volcanoes are quite an uncommon occurrence, although they are not unique to just
the Galapagos. However, the unusual part of these calderas is their size, especially compared to their
relation to the size of the volcano. Calderas form after a collapse of a magma chamber located under
the surface. The magma in these chambers give support to the volcano, but after the magma
withdraws, the surrounding rock becomes unsupported and cannot bear the weight above them, and
therefore they collapse. These calderas do not form in just one collapse; they slowly grow after many
collapses. This was proven after a partial collapse of the caldera on Fernandina in 1968, as part of the
crater dropped nearly 200 meters. Several other smaller collapses have occurred on Fernandina as well
as other islands since the collapse in 1968. These calderas can also be refilled with magma, partially or
all the way, and then reform. An example of this is Isla Marchena, located in the northeast, which has
nearly been filled all the way with lava. If these calderas drop below sea level and part of the rim
breaks, the caldera can form a bay just as Genovesa s caldera

Article Review On Online Gambling Legalization
Article 5 Is Donald Trump key to US online gambling legalisation?
He spent years discussing his presidential aspirations, even once saying that he would fund former
Minnesota Governor and ex professional wrestler Jesse Ventura s campaign should he ever want to run
for the top spot. But now it seems that Donald Trump is backing up the talk by putting his name on the
ballot paper and running for president. While his chances of reaching the White House are slim at
best, it has given the outspoken businessman and TV star a new platform to air his views. The
Republican Party is fighting tooth and nail to stop Trump s momentum but that stats don t lie, he is
certainly working to win over the US public. Trump has been quick to address ... Show more content

This makes the online gambling field a great source of profit for Trump, which is probably why it has
become a hot talking point within not only his campaign but throughout online casino portals around
the world.
It seems great that Trump has made the issue of online gambling legislation so prominent, but it could
possibly prove to be negative in many ways. Trump is a man known for his abrasive and controversial
personality, giving him the reputation of being explosive from a political standpoint. There are some
who believe that by behaving in the way he does that he is actually hindering the chances of online
gambling ever being legalized in the United States. This is because there is every chance that because
of his nature many will oppose simply out of dislike of Trump simply to make a point. It isn t just that
either, Sheldon Adelson, a fellow gambling mogul, but one that opposes online gambling, could look
to ramp up his anti online gambling efforts simply to give Trump more to deal with during his
campaign.
Whichever way you look at situation, Donald Trump could very way play a key role in how the online
casino legalisation story unfolds in the United States. Should his presidential campaign gather real
momentum, whether he makes it into office or not, he will have an increased influence from a political
standpoint moving forward. However, should his campaign truly fall flat, then there is every chance
that objectors will be able to shut down the

Iraq and Democracy Essay
Iraq and Democracy
Systems based on guaranteed freedoms, the rule of law, and peaceful electoral transitions are
obviously desirable for all. Today s debate over bringing democracy to the Muslim Middle East often
centers on whether the region is ready for democracy (Newsom). A number of problems the US has to
face during transferring democratic essentials seems to just increase: ongoing fights in whole Iraq, a
lack of governmental structure, a shortage of charismatic political figures, who would be acceptable
by American side, and finally the lack of cultural experience in democratic governing. Giving the
power over to Iraqis must be done, but the process has to be careful and proceeded by ... Show more

The question of postoccupation foreign policies hasn t arisen. When it does, issues of the treatment of
US forces, the role of Islam, and attitudes toward Israel may arise. Each will be followed closely in
Washington. If new policies are unacceptable, strong demands will be made, either for a forceful
removal of the offending government or for sanctions. It may not be enough for proponents of
diplomacy to point to the risks of setting aside an elected government or to urge dialogue with the new
authorities, arguing that the experience of power often modifies the most radical of governments. The
US commitment to the results of democracy will be sorely tested.
The temporary government in Iraq struggles with a lot of difficulties. The first is the disappearance of
all previous government structures following the war there was chaos within these, like: army, police,
and all Baas party councils, even officials in national departments and villages leaders. Although
action was necessary, experts warned that the situation in Iraq wouldn t be like in Germany (where
after Hitler s collapse a government was quickly re build) or Japan after 1945 (there the symbol of
country continuity was held by leaving Mikado on the throne). Now all of those people are slowly
replaced by new, pro American Iraqis. Another serious problem is the lack of fresh, charismatic

Persuasive Essay On Tarzan
Tarzan swings into a Microgaming casino near you
Tarzan
We ve seen several nursery rhymed themed slots do the rounds on the internet over the last few
months, but nobody envisaged Tarzan coming to the online casino world. Nonetheless, the hero will
be making his way to your screens over the next month or so, as Microgaming launches yet another
easy going slot machine game.
The new Tarzan themed video slot is set to contain more original imagery, based on the tale by Edgar
Rice Burroughs, and not the ever popular Disney version. This should make it stand out from some of
the other predictable, similarly themed slots on the market. This is a slot which will only features 40

Players should be able to pocket big wins and plenty of them with this feature, then, even if it cannot
be retriggered.
What we do not like
To be honest, although the features are decent, Microgaming haven t broken any new ground with
them. Everything is rather samey, and that is a bit of a problem. The casino software provider has done
an overly good job when it comes to the graphics in the game, so why couldn t they follow it through
with a few new special bonuses? Admittedly, the new Tarzan slot is certainly going to be everybody s
first choice of slot machine game. Microgaming in the midst of unveiling a new line up of cartoony,
child friendly slots, and that is a bit of a worry. With this, and their recently released Dragonz themed
slots out there, you have to wonder if there will be anything for us more serious slot players to enjoy.
Worth playing?
That depends entirely on your point of view. If you are tired of these child friendly graphics, then the
prospect of playing Tarzan isn t going to be very appealing to you. However, if you are up for trying
anything new, and don t mind stacked wilds aplenty, Tarzan could be ideal for your

Biodiesel Synthesis Lab Report
Leah Romero 04/30/2018 Lab 13 Chem. 102L In lab 13, synthesis of biodiesel, the main purpose was
to test for the presence of contaminants like soap, and to determine the purity of the sample. This was
done by performing a transesterification of vegetable oil when a solid catalyst is present in order to
produce biodiesel. In the lab procedure the outcomes that were observed were biodiesel being
synthesized using a solid state catalyst, biodiesel being tested for quality, and being able to explain the
synthesis pathway for biodiesel. Biodiesel can be produced from a variety of renewable sources. The
chemical properties that lie behind this lab all tie in with the components of biodiesel. The biodiesel

Effects Of Alcohol Abuse And Alcoholism
When entering the field of social work, a person should understand the effects of alcohol, not only on
an individual, but also the effects on the families. Alcohol is one of the many substances that people
use and abuse. Since alcohol is legal for any one over the age of twenty one, many people begin
drinking and then develop an addiction to the substance (Goldberg, 2016). Alcoholism effects people
of all ages, background, social status, or ethnic group (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2016). A
social worker should understand how to assess and intervene families who are struggling with alcohol
addiction in a way that is both ethical and culturally competent (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse
and Alcoholism, 2005). The main goal for a social worker is to promote well being and help provide
the basic needs of all people (National Association of Social Workers, 2008). To begin, a social worker
must first assess the situation that is before them and collect as much information as possible. Several
questions need to be asked to either the family or the person who has alcoholism. For example, on
average, how many days a week does the person consume alcohol? On those days, how many
alcoholic beverages are consumed? In the last thirty days how many times have you had more than
four alcoholic beverages? These questions need to be asked first because a social worker needs to
know how severe the problem is (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, 2005). In some
cases

The chemicals break down he scrap copper into a liquid mixture known as copper sulfate (CuSO4). The copper sulfate is then poured over a drum, and electrified, this adheres the foil to the drum, which is then peeled off as foil. Because of the chemical intense process, entry is very hard. The process requires very precise and technical equipment that is very costly. Oak Mitsui, the leading company in the market, has a $200 million production plant to produce the foil in a 20 million pounds or about $105 million market size. Another barrier to entry is the transportation cost, which tends to be a major cost for the companies. Owning or outsourcing transportation is an expensive cost that most companies across all markets face, and copper foil is certainly a market where transportation is a factor. Because there are few sites of production or importation, the foil needs to be shipped to the consumers, which are located across

When all of the inputs are increased, the output is increased proportionally. This is due to the fact that there is no loss or setbacks on the inputs during production. This also means that the production function is linear, like Q= 2K+5L (however with many more variables). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout her life, she personified the ideal practices of penance and devotion to God. An example of her tremendous devotion to God can be found in the bodily chastisement she performed following her illness. Upon falling severely ill, Mary of Oignies ate a small ration of meat and drank a meager amount of wine. The drinking of wine can be seen as religiously unjustifiable in Galatians 5:21 which states, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. • 11. Rhetorical Analysis Of Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address Could the North and South ever come together again and unite as one nation after the Civil War? The purpose of Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address was to offer his promising predictions for reconciliation with the South and his vision of the future. Lincoln utilizes strong and elevated diction to clearly articulate his vision for the future, with choices like dreaded and sought . Furthermore, Lincoln s optimistic tone offers a beacon of hope, with examples like, achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations, and to bind up the nation s wounds . The purpose of the address is achieved through parallelism and appeal to religion, too. Lincoln s diction, one of his most powerful literary devices, is employed prominently throughout the entire passage. Lincoln s elevated diction is used so he can communicate his thoughts openly and plainly. For instance, he says all dreaded and sought to avoid the Civil War. This establishes the war as a terrible evil but not the Confederacy. His word choice helps humanize the Confederacy, the Union s enemy. The black population is addressed as colored slaves in order to appeal to the South and their deep pride in slavery. Simultaneously, to appeal to the North who despised slavery, he says the black population was part of the whole population . The purpose of Lincoln s diction here is to attempt to bring the Union and the Confederacy together as it appeases to both side s beliefs. Also, Lincoln chooses to say insurgents , which has a more neutral connotation behind it, instead of calling the Confederacy the enemy or another derogatory term in order not to alienate the South. When the Civil War ends, the two sides would have to reconcile, and they can t do that if Lincoln depicts the South as the enemy. Lincoln s optimistic tone attempts to persuade the audience into forgiving the South and making peace. For instance, Lincoln says, to bind up the nation s wounds, , a bright and encouraging quote for the country s future. By referring to the Union and Confederacy as a one entity, it depicts them as a single united country. What Lincoln also suggests is that the Civil War is not fatal and that the ... • 12. The Pros And Cons Of Racial Discrimination As an international student, I was given a great opportunity to pursue a wide range of academic studies and to experience the world diversity that enriches the promotion of a cultural exchange amongst students from many different parts of the world. Interactions with different races on a personal level has allowed me to gain a better understanding about them in person, their values, and the world; however, until I left home and went abroad as an international student, I, too, was one of few people who had only seen them in person from a long distance or through social media. As much as the issue of racial discrimination has been extreme and people s ignorance of this issue has grown in many countries, I had once denied to accept the difference and created bias in my personal view and the way I perceived different races. People tend to acquire various knowledge through individual perception formed simply by seeing what is currently lain in front of us, as I did. Barack Obama, while campaigning for the presidential nomination at the National Constitution Center Union in Philadelphia in 2008, delivered his speech about controversial issues of race that still exist in the history of America (Rai, 646). The speech titled A More Perfect Union conveys numerous messages regarding Obama s concerning beliefs of racism. Barack Obama, himself, despite serving as the 44th President of the United States, had gone through the long and hurtful journey of difficulties in the presence of racial discrimination having to face the prejudice against the colored skin and a different social and cultural background. Being colored, preconceptions about him was inevitable even during his campaign, but his oratory that openly addressed the race which is the sensitive topic that is rarely discussed or spoken in public, captured great attention allowing him to successfully build his image as an intelligent and patriotic candidate. Through the speech, Obama not only responds to the criticisms of his affiliation with his former pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, who spoke of controversial and incendiary statements about the divisive racial challenges in America and the injustice of the country as a nation by questioning the U.S. government, ... • 13. Sight And Blindness In Oedipus When most people think of blindness they think of someone who cannot see out of their eyes. However, someone can have their eyesight but be unable to see what is going on around them and the impact they are making in everyday life. In Oedipus Rex, Oedipus was blind both metaphorically and eventually physically. Sophocles recurring motif of sight and blindness serves to illustrate Oedipus s own blindness and understanding. Tiresias is physically blind, but sees more into Oedipus than Oedipus can see in himself. Oedipus s lack of self knowledge makes him metaphorically blind. Once he gains knowledge and insight, Oedipus no longer wants his physical sight. Tiresias is a blind prophet who Oedipus calls upon to clarify information from Apollo s oracle. Tiresias is physically blind but has the ability to see metaphorically and make predictions. He is hesitant to reveal to all of his knowledge of Oedipus identity. You, even though you see clearly, do not see the scope of evil, nor where you live, nor with whom you dwell. Do you know your true descent? And secretly you are an enemy to your own kin, both under the earth and on it (433 438). Tiresias knows Oedipus descent and Oedipus needs some self insight to understand the deeds he has committed and the truth of his birth. Oedipus ignorance causes him to be angry and poke fun at Tiresias s blindness. Tiresias s blindness allows him to ponder and self reflect, which Oedipus fails to do which causes his downfall. To show this, in the beginning of the book Rook was helping out the fairies, or more importantly Alex; the Fairy Godmother in training. He would go on walks with her and he later helped her figure out why Little Bo Peep wanted to become the next queen on Red Riding Hood Kingdom. I was going to suggest that if you re curious about Little Bo Peep s intentions, we could sneak onto her farmand have a look around. (Colfer 135). He helped her discover something she otherwise might not have been able to without the help of his idea. Rook and Alex did have a crush on each other and that could have been why he wanted to do this as something to impress her, but he helped her nonetheless. Without the help of Rook Alex could have never found this out. She pulled him behind a giant patch of tulips and threw her arms around his neck. She had held it together very well, but Rook was the only person she didn t feel like she had to be brave in front of. (Colfer 311). Also, resin is added to the process to give the paper towel strength (Union). Several layers are then put together with adhesive and then formed into a paper towel (Choudhury). Some paper towels are embossed to form air pockets which help to absorb more liquid and help to add more strength (Union). Female Circumcision Essay Female Genital Circumcision Female genital circumcision (FGC) is a cultural ritual that is performed to the vast majority of women within the countries of Sudan, Kenya, Mali, Benin, Togo, and parts of the Middle East. Female genital circumcision also termed as female genital mutilation is used based upon a person s beliefs. This ritual has been highly controversial for many years especially in the western society, due to the health risks that women may have to go through. In addition to that, Saudi Arabia is a key trade partner considering the fact that it is Canada s second largest export market in the Middle East (Gauthier, 2011). As a result of this there is a definite commercial interest since it is a possible market for International Trade Canada (ITC). It was advantageous to settle in the south because of the perfect climate for farming and growing cash crops. In 1607, King James 1 split the Atlantic seaboard into two distinct areas. He gave the southern half to the London Company and the northern half to the Plymouth Company. A total of 144 ships were sent by the London Company to settle. They established the settlement called Jamestown. It was at first not an easy adventure. The settlers primary focus was on finding gold. While they were so consumed with finding gold, they were not producing any exports to bring money to them and often times barely had enough food for survival. Virginia began growing tobacco. This proved to be a very profitable crop for them, but it was also their main source of income and they relied heavily on it. Port Au Prince is the capital of Haiti, and when thought of, a capitol looks like a nice city with wealthy people walking around to their busy jobs. In Port Au Prince however, jumbles of people run around with rags for clothes, sitting on the side of the street trying to sell to us wealthy Americans (or so they call us and so they think) what they can. • 37. Summary Of Le Fresne And Bisclavret As seen with the first two lais, Guigemar and Equitan , Marie uses the lais to express her opinions on righteous and unrighteous love. However, unlike Guigemar and Equitan , the next two lais in her collection, Le Fresne and Bisclavret , are not as straightforward in their approaches to righteous and unrighteous love. Whereas in Equitan there was the warning that those who resemble the king should take warning of his end, in Le Fresne and Bisclavret there is not such a didactic lesson on the morality or immorality of love. Instead, Marie utilizes the slightly convoluted natures of the next two lais to surprise the readers with the outcomes of the stories and to further emphasize the complicated nature of love. In order to more easily draw on the comparisons between Le Fresne and Bisclavret , the lais will be broken up into how the relationships begin, how the lovers face trials, and how the relationships reach their final outcomes. Romantic relationships are not the only type of loving relationships that Marie discusses in her lais. As is the case with the third lai, Le Fresne , the main romantic relationship does not appear until a third of the way into Marie s telling of the lai. While the romantic relationship is essential to the story and drives the plot onward for the final two thirds of the telling, there are other relationships that are equally important to discuss in order to learn the full scope of what Marie de France defines as love, ... Essay On STEM Doesn T Stand For Men The M in STEM Doesn t Stand for Men Whether it peaks your interest or not there is no doubt that the STEM field plays a major role in your society and is very important. Those four letters stand for science, technology, engineering, and math, and they are the driving force of new discoveries and innovations that lead to new products and processes that sustain our economy. STEM education creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators. However, despite the interest I have always had for science and math, I was never introduced to the field of engineering or even knew that I could consider a career in anything other than health services until near the end of my senior year of high school. Growing up, I was always told to be either a doctor or lawyer. Since I knew being a lawyer was not going to happen, I chose the health field. My mom and relatives would tell me that if I thought becoming a doctor was too much work, I could always go into nursing or pharmacy, or do something lighter, like accounting. My mom, like most of my aunts, does not have a college degree due to factors that she could not control. To give a better idea of what prejudice means, Judice translates to judge in Latin, therefore the term prejudice literally translates into pre judgment . There are innumerable forms of negative preconceived notions that exist in our world today, the biggest one being racism, which often is a stem of having anti immigration views. Immigration prejudice is not unknown to any person who lives in America and has eyes and ears to know it exists, but it s important to know that prejudice is not innate, it is learned, and as long as we allow our society to practice xenophobia among present and future generations we will never be free of it. How can this be when Hispanics take the cake for making up the largest portion of new comers. Interestingly enough, research done by the Pew Research Center concludes that the more Hispanics have become accustomed to nativism in American culture, the more likely they are to feel negatively toward the matter. The motive of the founders of the U.S. was to establish religious freedom in the colonies; therefore, religion was of importance to them. Not only did James Madison have views on the importance of religion but he was an adamant believer of the separation of church and state. Madison stated that breaking the ties between church and state would cause a growth in religious interest. He wrote about this in 1819 stating that the number, the industry, and the morality of the priesthood and the devotion of the people have been manifestly increased by the total separation of the church from the state. Thomas Jefferson shared this belief with Madison in his wall of separation between religion and government which is a fortification of liberty. He strongly supported the freedom of religion in America through the separation of church and state. The phrase wall of separation between the church and the state was originally coined by Thomas Jefferson in a letter to the Danbury Baptists in 1802. The purpose of the letter was to ease fears of the wall that the Danbury, Connecticut Baptists had. Jefferson said in his letter that the wall had been built to protect them. This was used to keep the state out of the church s business. During pre Revolutionary America there were efforts made to attain not only political liberty but also religious freedom. From the decades of warring came a population on the downfall and a great decline in merit. These crater like volcanoes are quite an uncommon occurrence, although they are not unique to just the Galapagos. However, the unusual part of these calderas is their size, especially compared to their relation to the size of the volcano. Calderas form after a collapse of a magma chamber located under the surface. The magma in these chambers give support to the volcano, but after the magma withdraws, the surrounding rock becomes unsupported and cannot bear the weight above them, and therefore they collapse. These calderas do not form in just one collapse; they slowly grow after many collapses. This was proven after a partial collapse of the caldera on Fernandina in 1968, as part of the crater dropped nearly 200 meters. Several other smaller collapses have occurred on Fernandina as well as other islands since the collapse in 1968. These calderas can also be refilled with magma, partially or all the way, and then reform. An example of this is Isla Marchena, located in the northeast, which has nearly been filled all the way with lava. If these calderas drop below sea level and part of the rim breaks, the caldera can form a bay just as Genovesa s caldera ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Effects Of Alcohol Abuse And Alcoholism When entering the field of social work, a person should understand the effects of alcohol, not only on an individual, but also the effects on the families. Alcohol is one of the many substances that people use and abuse. Since alcohol is legal for any one over the age of twenty one, many people begin drinking and then develop an addiction to the substance (Goldberg, 2016). Alcoholism effects people of all ages, background, social status, or ethnic group (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2016). A social worker should understand how to assess and intervene families who are struggling with alcohol addiction in a way that is both ethical and culturally competent (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, 2005). The main goal for a social worker is to promote well being and help provide the basic needs of all people (National Association of Social Workers, 2008). To begin, a social worker must first assess the situation that is before them and collect as much information as possible. Several questions need to be asked to either the family or the person who has alcoholism. For example, on average, how many days a week does the person consume alcohol? On those days, how many alcoholic beverages are consumed? In the last thirty days how many times have you had more than four alcoholic beverages? These questions need to be asked first because a social worker needs to know how severe the problem is (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, 2005). In some cases ...
