Jennifer A. Llewellyn, RD, CDE, from Summit Medical Group’s Nutrition Services, presented information and tips on Diabetes Prevention at a community lecture in our Clifton office. Jennifer shared that according to the American Diabetes Association, 1 in 3 adults are at risk for Type 2 Diabetes and approximately 84 million Americans have prediabetes. The good news is that small steps can reverse prediabetes and help you live a healthier life.

7. How is it diagnosed?
• Fasting Glucose test: measures your blood
glucose when you haven’t eaten for 7 hours
• Hemoglobin A1C test: measures your
average estimated blood sugar over the past
2-3 months

“If you have pre-diabetes, losing a small amount of weight
if you’re overweight and getting regular physical activity
can lower your risk for developing type 2 diabetes.
A small amount of weight loss means around 5% to 7% of
your body weight”

Regular physical activity means getting at
least 150 minutes a week of brisk walking or a
similar activity.
