Real-time Reporting System Based on
MongoDB for Retailers to Measure Sales
Challenges
ShopperTrak is the world’s largest provider of retail and mall footfall counting services.
But the systems that it provides were unable to report traffic and sales information in
real-time. In fact, there was also no other company which had a hosted system that was
capable of providing real-time data analysis in this segment.
ShopperTrak saw an opportunity here and wanted to capture market share by being the
first in place with a system that would give retailers access to real-time data. If its
customers – retail managers and store owners had access to data that was constantly
updating with figures for shopper traffic, sales, conversion rates and average transaction
size then that would lead to a better allocation of resources and help them make better
business decisions.
Solutions
Softweb Solutions helped ShopperTrak develop Real-Time Reporting, the first hosted tool
in the retail industry that measures traffic and sales information in real-time across a
network of stores. The shopper data can be refreshed every 15 minutes which helps
retailers to quickly access their store performance and take action to adjust sales
strategies and allocate resources as required. The database used was MongoDB which
was chosen for its flexible structure when it comes to handling Big Data, making it a
cost-effective method for ShopperTrak to handle its data needs.
The application has been developed in responsive design, making it ideal for viewing
on any device.

rates and average transaction size (ATS).

Users have the ability to customize the graphs and tables to highlight the metrics they
are interested in and also set fixed targets for each day.

ShopperTrak wanted to give its customers a
hosted real-time reporting tool for their retail
businesses. The idea was to provide an easy
to understand reporting system using which
retail managers would be able to get
updates on sales and traffic conversion
without having to wait till the end of the day.
