Shutters
The shutters are made of steel or membrane pressed wood with
lamination. They can be cleaned with a dry or a wet cloth. Avoid bringing
them in direct contact with a spray / jet of water. The free flowing design
of wooden shutters allows cleaning without allowing dust to settle in
between the curves.

2. Cleaning and Maintenance
Floor (Skirting Level)
Skirting helps avoid water seepage and prevents dust from entering
underneath the cabinet. Occasional cleaning below the cabinet is possible
thanks to the easy removal and replacement of the skirting.

Wire Baskets / Accessories
Stainless Steel accessories and wire baskets can be cleaned with a dry or a
wet cloth and a mild detergent. Direct contact with water spray / jet
should be avoided.

3. Appropriate Working Posture
We at Godrej, have thoughtfully designed a perfectly ergonomic
kitchen for you. By following a few guidelines you can ensure stress
free working.
Posture for a healthy back
What is good posture?
Posture is the position in which you hold your body upright against gravity while standing,
sitting or lying down. Good posture involves training your body to stand, walk, sit and lie in
positions where the least strain is placed on supporting muscles and ligaments during
movement or weight-bearing activities.
A proper posture:
• Keeps bones and joints in the correct alignment so that muscles are being used properly.
• Decreases the stress on the ligaments holding the joints of the spine together.
• Prevents the spine from becoming fixed in abnormal positions.
• Prevents fatigue because muscles are being used more efficiently, allowing the body to use
less energy.
• Prevents strain or overuse problems.
• Prevents backache and muscular pain.
• Contributes to a good appearance.

Body mechanics
Body mechanics is defined as maintaining proper position during movement.
Constant or repeated small stresses over a long period of time can cause faulty body
mechanics and can lead to injury.
Ergonomics is the process of changing your environment to encourage good body
mechanics. This can be accomplished by modifying a tool, work station, counter height,
task or job.
Correct standing position
1. Hold your head up straight with your chin in. Do not tilt your head forward,
backward or sideways.
2. Make sure your earlobes are in line with the middle of your shoulders.
3. Keep the back bone straight
4. Keep your knees straight.
5. Stretch the top of your head towards the ceiling.
6. Tuck your stomach in. Do not tilt your pelvis forward or backward.
7. The arches in your feet should be supported.
8. Avoid standing in the same position for a long time.
9. When standing, try to elevate one foot by resting it on a stool or a box. After several
minutes, switch your foot position.

13
Correct positions for stooping, squatting and kneeling
Correct lifting position
• If you must lift objects, do not try to lift objects that
are awkward or are heavier than 15 kgs.
• Before you lift a heavy object, make sure you have
firm footing.
• To pick up an object that is lower than the level of
your waist, keep your back straight and bend at
your knees and hips. Do not bend forward at the
waist with your knees straight.

Height of kitchen platform
When working in the kitchen, your spine should be straight to avoid strain on your back
and you should also avoid twisting your spine as much as possible. If your platform is low, it is difficult to
keep your spine straight and also a high platform leads to strain in your wrist and shoulder while you do
the basic operations like chopping and stirring. To avoid this, it is recommended to make use of the height
flexibility option of Godrej Modular Kitchens.

Lighting
Cooking areas should be suitably lit. Overall, the lighting should keep the shadows to a minimum and visibility
inside the cabinets at a premium.
General Lighting
Dark-coloured walls need more general lighting than bright-coloured ones, which can be best achieved with a
mix of ceiling-mounted lights and recessed spotlights around the perimeter.
Task Lighting
Benefits of these lights are that they focus on a specific work areas such as the baking area, mixing area,
cooking area etc., which aid in a better working atmosphere.
What You Should Wear
Wearing an apron will keep your clothes clean. But don't wear anything that's big and loose. Long sleeves could
catch fire or get caught in mixer beaters or other equipment.
Keep Germs Out of Your Food
A big part of safe cooking is keeping the kitchen clean. The idea is to keep germs out of your food. Always
wash your hands with soap and water immediately before you begin cooking. This is especially important for
recipes that involve touching the food directly, like kneading dough or mixing ingredients with your hands.
Also be sure to wash your hands before and after handling raw meat, poultry, eggs and fish products because
these foods can contain bacteria. You don't want that bacteria getting on your hands because then they could
end up in your mouth. You also can fight germs by keeping your working surfaces (like countertops and cutting
boards) clean and dry. Wash them with soap and warm water after cooking.
Food may be refrigerated or frozen to keep it fresh. Eat refrigerated food within 3 to 5 days and frozen food
within 2 months.
4. General safety
KITCHEN USE AND CARE GUIDE
16
Using the Kitchen Safely
Have your ingredients neatly lined up, your hands washed, and your measuring spoons out. But before you
start, it's a good idea to learn a few rules of the kitchen. It's easy to get injured in the kitchen if you're not careful.
Point the knife blade away from yourself and keep your fingers away from the blade when you're cutting.
For the stove or oven, here are some ways to keep from getting burned:
• Use potholders or oven mitts (no dish towels) when handling hot pots, pans or baking trays.
• Turn pot and pan handles toward the back of the stove so you won't knock them over by accident.
• Use only microwave-safe cookware in the microwave - never use tinfoil or any metal items.
KITCHEN USE AND CARE GUIDE
Safety Precautions to be taken while using LPG cylinders.
• LPG Cylinders should never be exposed to any direct source of heat.
• LPG Cylinders should always be kept in an upright position. The burner should always be placed above the
height of the cylinder.
• The cylinder and rubber tube should be fully visible.
• Don't keep cylinder in a closed cupboard. If it is a must, then the cabinet door and floor should have
minimum 2 inches clearance between them.
• Don't use any cover on the rubber tube.
• Keep the kitchen properly ventilated.
• Switch off the regulator when the cylinder is not in use, specially at night.
• Some homes have two cylinders. Make sure the knob of the idle cylinder is switched off when it is not in use.
• Always keep the contact number of the gas operator handy.
• In case of any smell of gas leakage, open all windows and ventilators in the kitchens. Do not operate any
electrical gadgets or cell phones & contact the gas operator immediately.

  • 12. Shutters The shutters are made of steel or membrane pressed wood with lamination. They can be cleaned with a dry or a wet cloth. Avoid bringing them in direct contact with a spray / jet of water. The free flowing design of wooden shutters allows cleaning without allowing dust to settle in between the curves. 9 2. Cleaning and Maintenance Floor (Skirting Level) Skirting helps avoid water seepage and prevents dust from entering underneath the cabinet. Occasional cleaning below the cabinet is possible thanks to the easy removal and replacement of the skirting. KITCHEN USE AND CARE GUIDE

  • 14. 11 3. Appropriate Working Posture We at Godrej, have thoughtfully designed a perfectly ergonomic kitchen for you. By following a few guidelines you can ensure stress free working. Posture for a healthy back What is good posture? Posture is the position in which you hold your body upright against gravity while standing, sitting or lying down. Good posture involves training your body to stand, walk, sit and lie in positions where the least strain is placed on supporting muscles and ligaments during movement or weight-bearing activities. A proper posture: • Keeps bones and joints in the correct alignment so that muscles are being used properly. • Decreases the stress on the ligaments holding the joints of the spine together. • Prevents the spine from becoming fixed in abnormal positions. • Prevents fatigue because muscles are being used more efficiently, allowing the body to use less energy. • Prevents strain or overuse problems. • Prevents backache and muscular pain. • Contributes to a good appearance. • 15. 12 Body mechanics Body mechanics is defined as maintaining proper position during movement. Constant or repeated small stresses over a long period of time can cause faulty body mechanics and can lead to injury. Ergonomics is the process of changing your environment to encourage good body mechanics. This can be accomplished by modifying a tool, work station, counter height, task or job. Correct standing position 1. Hold your head up straight with your chin in. Do not tilt your head forward, backward or sideways. 2. Make sure your earlobes are in line with the middle of your shoulders. 3. Keep the back bone straight 4. After several minutes, switch your foot position. KITCHEN USE AND CARE GUIDE
  • 16. 13 Correct positions for stooping, squatting and kneeling Correct lifting position • If you must lift objects, do not try to lift objects that are awkward or are heavier than 15 kgs. • Before you lift a heavy object, make sure you have firm footing. • To pick up an object that is lower than the level of your waist, keep your back straight and bend at your knees and hips. Do not bend forward at the waist with your knees straight. stooping squatting kneeling correct lifting position incorrect lifting position KITCHEN USE AND CARE GUIDE
  • 17. 14 Height of kitchen platform When working in the kitchen, your spine should be straight to avoid strain on your back and you should also avoid twisting your spine as much as possible. If your platform is low, it is difficult to keep your spine straight and also a high platform leads to strain in your wrist and shoulder while you do the basic operations like chopping and stirring. To avoid this, it is recommended to make use of the height flexibility option of Godrej Modular Kitchens. KITCHEN USE AND CARE GUIDE
  • 18. 15 Lighting Cooking areas should be suitably lit. Overall, the lighting should keep the shadows to a minimum and visibility inside the cabinets at a premium. General Lighting Dark-coloured walls need more general lighting than bright-coloured ones, which can be best achieved with a mix of ceiling-mounted lights and recessed spotlights around the perimeter. Task Lighting Benefits of these lights are that they focus on a specific work areas such as the baking area, mixing area, cooking area etc., which aid in a better working atmosphere. What You Should Wear Wearing an apron will keep your clothes clean. But don't wear anything that's big and loose. Long sleeves could catch fire or get caught in mixer beaters or other equipment. Keep Germs Out of Your Food A big part of safe cooking is keeping the kitchen clean. The idea is to keep germs out of your food. Always wash your hands with soap and water immediately before you begin cooking. This is especially important for recipes that involve touching the food directly, like kneading dough or mixing ingredients with your hands. Also be sure to wash your hands before and after handling raw meat, poultry, eggs and fish products because these foods can contain bacteria. You don't want that bacteria getting on your hands because then they could end up in your mouth. You also can fight germs by keeping your working surfaces (like countertops and cutting boards) clean and dry. Wash them with soap and warm water after cooking. Food may be refrigerated or frozen to keep it fresh. Eat refrigerated food within 3 to 5 days and frozen food within 2 months. 4. General safety KITCHEN USE AND CARE GUIDE
  • 19. 16 Using the Kitchen Safely Have your ingredients neatly lined up, your hands washed, and your measuring spoons out. But before you start, it's a good idea to learn a few rules of the kitchen. It's easy to get injured in the kitchen if you're not careful. Point the knife blade away from yourself and keep your fingers away from the blade when you're cutting. For the stove or oven, here are some ways to keep from getting burned: • Use potholders or oven mitts (no dish towels) when handling hot pots, pans or baking trays. • Turn pot and pan handles toward the back of the stove so you won't knock them over by accident. • Use only microwave-safe cookware in the microwave - never use tinfoil or any metal items. KITCHEN USE AND CARE GUIDE Safety Precautions to be taken while using LPG cylinders. • LPG Cylinders should never be exposed to any direct source of heat. • LPG Cylinders should always be kept in an upright position. The burner should always be placed above the height of the cylinder. • The cylinder and rubber tube should be fully visible. • Don't keep cylinder in a closed cupboard. If it is a must, then the cabinet door and floor should have minimum 2 inches clearance between them. Do not operate any electrical gadgets or cell phones & contact the gas operator immediately.
