2. What are typhoons ?
 A typhoon is a mature tropical cyclone that
develops in the northwestern part of the Pacific
Ocean between 180 and 100 E. This region is
referred to as the northwest Pacific basin.
 Identical phenomena in the eastern north Pacific
are called hurricanes, with tropical cyclones
moving into the western Pacific re-designated as
typhoons.

 MANILA, Philippines (AP) -- Typhoon Nesat, packing winds of
up to 100 mph, made landfall before dawn Tuesday in northeastern
Luzon, the Philippines’ largest island, leaving a trail of flooding
and devastation in its wake. The violent storm later lost strength
and moved out to sea, heading toward southern China.
 Forecasters sounded alarms over a new storm headed for the
Philippines Wednesday, even as workers repaired seawalls
demolished by a typhoon that killed at least 43 people, 35 people
missing and left scores stranded in swamped communities.
