My goal is to have our current “landfill” dumpster be replaced by a Compost Dumpster.
Compostable waste is sorted, aged and converted into compost in the East Bay and Central Valley. Most of the smelly work is undertaken at a Recology-owned facility in Vacaville.Read more at the San Francisco Examiner: http://www.sfexaminer.com/local/Making-trash-work-for-you-with-compost--95998244.html#ixzz0xIAqpKe1the ECS System, monitored for temperature and oxygen levels. These measurements ensure that proper temperatures have been reached and maintained in order to eradicate undesirable microbial life. After the composted material has undergone final screening to remove oversized material, the fines material is placed into windrows for curing.Compostable material is piled under reusable fabric covers and fed air through tubes for 45 days.Read more at the San Francisco Examiner: http://www.sfexaminer.com/local/Making-trash-work-for-you-with-compost--95998244.html#ixzz0xIGjsPrx
The trommel screen separates the larger pieces from the finished product, and the result is a 3/8" finished compost. Our compost contains levels of nitrogen far superior to those of typical green waste compost due to the incorporation of our diverse feedstock featuring food scraps.2(Engineered Compost Systems). System designed to remove approximately 85-90% of previous emissions generated by the older systems.http://www.compostsystems.com/ac_composter_video.htmlhttp://www.sfexaminer.com/local/Making-trash-work-for-you-with-compost--95998244.html

Our compost will be mostly paper – but it will be mixed with food waste in portions that will make the paper break down
If it can stand up on it’s own – it can be recycledPLASTIC BAGS ARE NOT RECYCLEABLE – YET.PASS OUT PLASTIC EXAMPLES
Clean pizza boxes and be recycledGreasy pizza boxes should be composted
Idea of “landfill” label is not derogatory, and it’s not even bad – it’s just the reality of where we are at now. I think we should accept and embrace landfill as part of this overall process: of sorting our resources, and landfill is a resource. Hopefully, we will be able to reduce our landfills in the future because it is wasteful to send matter to a place where it can not effectively be reused. Try not to add anxiety to children; these are matters that they can’t control – they can only sort the materials that we ask them to; the landfill materials are not going to “Kill the Earth”; The ecology movement is beginning the kind of indoctrination movement that can be . . . Dangerous . . . With people being emotionally blackmailed to perform certain actions: buy a Prius, recycle, etc. – it’s a dangerous slope to teach children piousness.Explain difference between biodegradable and compostable
E waste has precious metal that can be recovered: copper wire, nickel (on circuit boards),
