Social media at IBM started with internal blogging on Blog Central. Over time, rules were established to guide appropriate social media use by employees. IBM also launched Lotus Connections, an internal social network, which grew to include hundreds of thousands of user profiles, communities, blogs, bookmarks and more. More recently, IBM has looked to break down firewalls and reach external audiences through initiatives like BlueTwit and sharing content on sites like Facebook and YouTube.
