User-centered designers prioritize understanding users by asking who they are, what emotions they should feel, what purpose the product serves for them, what functionality they need, their proficiency level, and what information they need to operate the product. This presentation outlines six questions user-centered designers should consider to build products that delight users from their first experience.

3. Rare Breed
User-Centred Designers Are a Rare Breed. Never
has a position been so coveted yet, extremely low
in supply.
!
Is it down to lack of understanding of what this
term actually means? We definitely think so..
!
So, go through the whole presentation to find
out if you have the chops
4. The Main Difference
How do I design the best
looking, coolest thing that
anyone has seen!

6. Who Are Our Users?
The understanding of the user beyond generalised
demographics is essential in today’s hypercompetitive war for a user’s attention
!
Most designers stop at identifying the target age and location of
their users. But, to really get an advantage, designers nowadays
need to understand a user’s interest, habits and nuances to be
able to design world class experiences.
7. What Do We
Want our Users To Feel?
Emotions govern the “ancient crocodile brain”
of your users. Logic only works to justify them
using your products
!
Humans are emotional creatures. How your products make your
users feel become infinitely important to the success of your
designs. Emotions like “happiness” and “pride” are two of the
most important emotions that your products need to induce.
8. What is the Purpose of
Them using Your product?
Considering the reasons of a user using your
product or a particular feature within your product
should be always on top of your mind while
designing solutions that will delight them
!
Without a purpose, your product has no reason to exist.
Therefore, knowing and keeping in mind at all times which user
itch your product scratches will give you a serene sense of focus
9. What Functionality
Will Your Users Need?
Overloading your products with features are never
the answer. Focus on the core functionality that
your users need
!
Gone are the days of “All-In-One” products that are built to serve
every need imaginable. To succeed, products need to serve a
specific purposes, thus, needing products to serve a limited
number of needs, and serving them extremely well.
10. How Proficient
or Savvy Are the Users?
Different users have different proficiency levels
with technology.
!
While the younger generation will “figure things out”, it doesn’t
make sense to design an app meant to help Baby Boomers find
companionship for example, the same way you
would design “Tinder”
11. What Information
Will the User Need to
Operate Our Products?
The out of the box experience is the key to users
even starting to use your app. Don’t screw it up!
!
With attention spans getting shorter and shorter, we need to
ensure that users will be able to “get” your product right out of
the box. Users are known to delete your app or quit using your
product and never come back if they don’t “get it” within the first
3 seconds of using your app. This could be done through various
methods like manuals, walkthroughs, pointers etc.
