What is a Conversational User Interface?

Any UI with the capability of chatting with real humans can
be called a Conversational User Interface .

The idea here is that instead of communicating with a computer
on its own inhuman terms–by clicking on icons and entering
syntax-specific commands–you interact with it on yours, by just
telling it what to do.
What all kinds of CUI’s are there?
O
O
There are two basic types of conversational interfaces.
first,we have voice assistants, which you ‘talk’ to, and
then there are chatbots, which you ‘type’ to.

Can you give me some good examples of
Voice Assistants?
On the Voice Assistant front, pretty much every major
tech company has its own, at the moment. Here are
some examples.

Apple’s Siri Amazon’s Echo Google’s OK Google
Great, can you give me some good examples of Chatbot?

Voice Assistants allow you to do things like playing
music, searching Wikipedia, calling someone, set a
timer, and more–with simple voice commands.

Chatbot examples:
Facebook’s M, a human-assisted chatbot who lives
within Messenger and can do anything for you from
booking dinner reservations to buying a car.

The dream of conversational interfaces is that they will finally
allow humans to talk to computers in a way that puts the onus on
the software, not the user, to figure out how to get things done.
That’s not only the way things should be; it has the potential to
totally change the way we use computers going forward.

Why are companies betting big on CUI’s?
O
Conversational interfaces have kindled companies’ interest by
presenting an intelligent interface. The intelligence does not result
merely from words being recognized as text transcription, but from
getting a natural-language understanding of intentions behind those
words. The intelligence also combines voice technologies, artificial
intelligence reasoning and contextual awareness.
Conversational UI also works well in devices that do not have screens,
like Amazon Echo.

Is there a downside to CUI’s!

Loss of Context because of Bad UX
Unlike GUIs, there is nothing mechanical about the
conversation that occurs during the chat. Whether
we are chatting with other humans or with bots, the
experience is identical. Chat bots lack the resource of
common sense.

Inability to Handle Crisis Calls
While bots can project the illusion of awareness,
they’re lousy at handling crisis calls. Bots may not
even recognize that the person on the other end is
experiencing serious crisis.
